If you were to view Sub Stop Cafe from the outside and think "What's the best this place could possibly be?", your expectations would probably be exceeded. As others have said, the location is within the Home Depot plaza off of Tower Rd, obviously not a plaza known for many dining options. I like coming here a lot for a quick lunch with reasonable prices. The employees are very friendly and they seem to have a great chemistry going because they never look cramped even though there are often many people moving about behind the counter(at least during peak lunch hours). I'm partial to the chef's salad and usually only come here when I want that specifically, but I've tried a few of their subs and enjoyed them as well. The menu is sprawling with hot and cold subs, baked potatoes, nachos, pitas, salads, soup/chili, not to mention a large breakfast menu. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 in hopes that they continue to succeed in their obscure location.

I ate here for the first time today. I think it is a very average sub, comparable to Subway. The bread tasted fresh, very little meat, lots of shredded lettuce and skimpy on the other toppings. It is in the Home Depot shopping center.

The gyro, sub and bagel we ordered was all mediocre. The folks working here seemed confused about, well, everything. When the guy ringing us up made a mistake and asked his co-worker for help, she yelled at him. I won't be back.

I have worked 5 minutes from the sub stop for the past 11 years. I have watched it go through many transitions and have always been a big fan. I can honestly say that after today I will never go back there again in my life. The place was so dirty... I would have turned around right away but had no time and had to get back to work. I ordered the same sandwich I have a hundred times and it is discussing. I watched as they microwaved the roast beef until it turned black and tough. As if the dirty store and the terrible sandwich wasn't bad enough I guess because it is summer the owner and employee had all of their kids there siting in a booth....obviously that would never bother me. What did bother me was watching the owner come around from behind the corner to rip one of the children up by her arm and spank her numerous times right in front of me while the other employee screamed from behind the counter to be quiet. How parents parent is none of my business and quite frankly I don't really care if you spank your kids but as a business owner you should think twice about hitting your children in front of customers. I felt so uncomfortable I couldn't get out of there quickly enough.

The subs were good. Comparable with places like firehouse subs. My boyfriend and I split a footlong Italian stallion. We asked for their special sub sauce on the side. The service was a little slow but friendly.

I agree with some recent the posts. Seems like things used to run a lot smoother here. It also Seemed to me that the help was confused. There was a woman carrying a baby on the line,A very cute baby but nonetheless it didn't seem sanitary. Also the guy that made my sandwich had baggy shorts and a dirty T-shirt on like he just got off of a basketball court or something.

The customer service is AWFUL! Employees were yelling and cussing at each other behind the counter. There were children in the restaurant that could hear everything they said. It takes forever to get your food. I was so uncomfortable in the restaurant that when I finally got my food I went out to my car to eat. I opened my sub and was disappointed. I ordered a bacon chicken ranch sub with white American cheese, mushrooms, and lettuce. There was yellow American cheese on my sub and no mushrooms. The chicken was frozen chicken, and was hard in some spots. I gave them one star because the bread and cookies were good. Needless to say I will not be back. I would rather give my business to Subway.

One of the best subs I've had in a very long time. Such a friendly operation and really fresh bread!!

I absolutely love this little place. I moved to this side of town and went looking for a decent lunch nearby. I came across this place and now I go here usually once a week. I normally get the Italian Stallion, which has their fantastic sub sauce. The Meatball Sub here is also amazing. I love the bread they have here. It tastes very fresh and soft . Everyone who works there is nice and accommodating.

This was a great sub stop. Now with the new owners it is horrible. Went in 11/2014 and we ordered two sandwiches. I asked what they put on the subs and they replied, we have some sides. I did not follow up with a reply. Our subs came with a thin slice of meat, a thin swipe of mayo, lettuce and onion. We observed everyone was eating lettuce sandwiches. We got in early and the diet coke was already pushing seltzer water. I would rather go to krystals and get sick before I go back. I want a refund and a stomach pump.

My hands down favorite sub place for years. Their food stays consistent through ownership changes and is excellent!!

Let me start off first by saying this review in no way reflects customer service. It's just my own opinion that "I've experienced better." The other people I was with enjoyed their meals... I went here with my cousins for lunch. It is in the Home Depot plaza. After living here for 6 years, I had no idea this place was here. They have a huge selection, from cold to hot subs, pitas, and a breakfast menu. Prices are $4.50 for a 6" and $8 for a footlong. The bread is excellent, very soft, even after toasting. I got the roast beef and cheese sandwich, which I split with my sister. It came with onions, peppers and mushrooms. I kind of hate mushrooms and peppers, but got it anyways figuring I could pick them out. I love onions, so I wanted that. It came out and the sandwich was in a basket. My meat was okay, but the vegis were gross. I don't know if this is modeled after a UK sub shop since the owners are from there, and maybe the ingredients are different across the pond. But for an American who is used to Subway, the vegis were awful. The mushrooms were canned, the peppers were dull colored, and the onions were so slimy, i had to take them all off because it was making me not want to eat my sub. Without the toppings, it was okay, but still not my favorite.

I love this place. I always order the same thing: Italian sub with veggies and their amazing Sub Stop Sauce. Every time I need to go to Home Depot I make a point to go around lunchtime so I can eat here. Their potato salad is quite good. A fantastic place for lunch.

Since sandwiches have become the staple of my weekly lunch menu I have to find variety in the places that I get the sandwiches from. In Gainesville there are some pretty obvious choices: Hogans, Larry's and any number of national chains. But then there's this place. A little cafe hidden beneath the shadow of a Home Depot in what seems to be a dying strip mall. A place that was so unassuming that me and my coworkers referred to it as "Home Depot (or HD) Subs" for over a year because we couldn't actually figure out the name of the place. As small as it is this place has become one of our favorites. There's a group of very personable employees including the British couple that runs (and presumably owns) the place. The price of a lunch usually comes out to just at $10-11 depending on what you get. And the sandwiches are good to boot. The bread is pretty different from what you get at other sandwich shops. Its very light and airy; almost delicate. My favorite lunch from there is the Super Bird on white accompanied by a peanut butter cookie. The sandwich most commonly ordered by my coworkers is the Italian Stallion. But I don't think anyone has ever left there unhappy with their sandwich, no matter what we ordered. The best part about this place is that it's evolving. Since we started going there a year ago they've changed their order taking process, started advertising a little more (that's how we figured out the real name of the place) and adding more and more things to their menu. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to add a little variety to the sandwich side of their life.
