This was the worst experience from any Olive garden I have ever been to. The salad was a mess, my chicken was burnt and the service was special... Being a chain restaurant you would think the food would be consistent.. If you are in the area, skip OG in.Gainesville

Well, I have eating here 2 nights in a row and tonight will be my last night for this week. I love it and I love sitting near the bar section with the t.v. Italian t.v. dinner authentic. lol anyways. You have to come here. Customer service is nice and very welcoming and it just has this uplifting atmosphere about it. Feels like i'm in another city.

Only if you must. Please do not come here I beg of you. I was with the party of four and while the food tasted fine the dining experience left little to be desired. Hey been given unfortunately a $75 gift card and used it to take my son daughter and my wife out since this is the only Darden in Gainesville we had only one option and that was to go to the Olive Garden. I think the trouble started when we first were seated at the table and were provided with an appetizer that overcrowded the table to begin with. Then it been on to being served our main course while our appetizer and dirty plates were still on the table. The service was slow the server was nice but no one was helping him out in busing tables and making sure that we had plenty of water and that our drinks for being refilled on a timely basis. Upon checking out I handed him the gift certificate cards and apparently there was a problem in processing it and it only took $50 off instead of the 75 so the manager came over and was trying to explain to us what the problem was that we could come back and use the $25 at a later date at which point I told her I would never be coming back and I wanted my gift certificates to be used all at the same time. I had a contact to get certificate company while I was sitting in the restaurant and I must've had 14 receipts in front of me showing various amounts that were available on each of the gift cards that I had the whole process of checking out was awful it took at least 25 minutes at which point we were offered nothing more than an apology. I really don't like change restaurants so that's part of my negativity but the experience could have been pleasurable if the flow and the attention to detail where there. Another point dad like to make is simply this everything they brought out I was asked if I want to cheese on it but I was never offered fresh cracked pepper!

Oh my word...I seriously thought my sodium values were going to shoot through the sky when I ate from this place. I don't know what possessed me to go eat at Olive Garden while I was in FL but maybe it was that inner horrible little child in me that used to love the old Olive Garden. Really, I felt my heart pumping extra hard for me to survive while I was eating this. Their soup was as salty as my pony's salt block and their Caesar salad is something I could have prepared myself (if I were very lazy and desperate). Because it basically was a ready made bag of romaine & croutons with a side of (gross) Kraft dressing. Their ravioli was also disgusting as well. So yes, overall, this was unpleasant and their American sized portions were insane. So not only did I have to eat this meal, I had to suffer through multiple meals of what I ordered because wasting food is not nice.

Always a good place to come on a date, or with family, or with a group as a party. The food isn't too pricey and the food is always fresh. Breadsticks salad and soup are always one of the best things people get while dining in. Come in Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday to get your food made by Ira.

When u enter Olive Garden the smell is not that great. We ordered some drinks and ordered meals in same time . Chicken marsalla with zuppa Toscana. The soup is always good only what is missing is little bit more of kale.Waiting time for our meal was about 15 mins so its not bad but the reastaurant was kind of empty so thats not great time. Chicken cooked perfect, not dry, tender. I wish that my meal will with mash potato and not just fried potatos but it's ok. Food is good but little far from real Italian food. Even the music was not sound like italian in italian restaurant. The plating is getting bored many years same and same .

Had the Seafood Alfredo here. So with the ice tea, it came out to be $20. For that amount of money I expected more than just an under-seasoned (watered-down) alfredo sauce and overdone scallops. I could have taken that same $20 and gone to Manuel's downtown and have "real" Italian food. I just expected more out of this place. Guess the only good thing that came out of this was "free" salad and breadsticks. For casual Italian food, I guess Olive Garden is the place to go. Food came out fast and service was prompt.

Service is hit or miss but the food is always constant and I've yet to have a waitress that wouldn't send me home with a full bag of breadsticks along with my leftovers and yes they're pretty darn good warmed up in a microwave the next day too. The trick is to drip a couple drops of water on the plate before heating.

Ok while I know Olive Garden is average Italian food. We are big fans for the fact we can feed our family on a budget. This bogo special they have going on is great. $12 buys you either salad or soup, breadsticks, your main dish and a take home dish. Wow everyone can get what they want, we don't break the bank feeding the family and we will have a meal later for the family.

We had their lunch special with chicken scampi ! Their soup and salad was amazing but their bread sticks are way too damn salty ! Service was amazing tho! Waitress was very friendly and attentive !

Decor: 3.5/5 -Always the same, never changes Service: 2.5/5 -Service at the bar was slow as a snail -Service at the table was also slow for water Food: 3.5/5 Tips for Never ending pasta? -I ordered the unlimited meat for an additional $3 -Place 2-3 orders at a time. The time between each pasta bowl is about 10-15 minutes which is ridiculous. I know its made to order but still -If you ordered the unlimited meats, you can ask for just meat only to get your money's worth -Avoid eating the yummy garlic bread and a light salad so you get your money's worth of carbs (and/or protein)

I went to dinner with my mother tonight and we were craving some Italian so came to the first Italian restaurant we saw- Olive Garden. the hostess were friendly and greeted/ sat us promptly and our waitress was kind. she forgot a specification on my drink order which is common and completely understandable (water- no ice, as I have very sensitive teeth) but immediately corrected herself. I inquired about breadsticks a few times before we finally got them, after our appetizers unfortunately. our soups came out less than appetizing as they weren't even warm but we dealt with it without complaining because what we were most excited for were the actual dinners. I got the Chicken Marsala which came out looking less than appetizing due to the Marsala sauce being spilled around the edge of my plate but once I tasted it I didn't mind. absolutely delicious and could not have been more delicious. that was probably the only really fabulous part of the trip as soon after the power went out for a couple of minutes which is also about when we found a hair in my mothers dish, and decided it was just time to get out of there. when we tried to pay there was a very long hold up as the credit card machines weren't online and no one in the store apparently knew how to use the manual ones.. I've worked in restaurants and know that's an important skill to have almost common sense honestly. but after at LEAST half an hour of waiting and not so much as a managers glance of apology we finally got our check sorted out. unfortunately not the service we were looking for. also overheard a few servers and hostesses talking poorly about guests after they left which is just in bad taste in my opinion. won't be coming back anytime soon, but my compliments to the chef on the delicious Chicken Marsala!

The service was slow, but the food tasted great! We went on Veterans Day, and they participated in the promotion for free meals for veterans. My wife, who is pregnant, couldn't eat the italian sausage dish she ordered but liked my chicken paremesan, so they made an entire dish just for her! Then the manager came out and made sure we were satisfied with our meal. Overall, we were there for 90 minutes total, but for the food and service it was worth the wait.

Slightly on the expensive side, but food is good. Salads come with re-fills and if you are a salad fan, you will like it. Lasagna is soo yummy. Service is a bit slow but. Tiramisu is yumm.

The fresh salad is the only thing worth eating even though the house dressing tastes like it came from a bottle. My pasta was mushy so I returned it for al dente. I changed my sauce because the marinara obviously comes from a jar. I ordered the alfredo sauce on the side. They returned and gave me another mushy bowl of pasta with the sauce on the pasta. I returned it again. The manager came over and said that ALL the pasta is made earlier in the day. Right before the person orders it they drop it in boiling water so all the pasta comes out the same way. My husband's pasta was dry around the edges as if it had been sitting around under lights. One would think that a restaurant that brags how 'genuinely italian' it is would want to at least get the pasta right.

Very good Salmon Bruschetta. I loved the risotto and spinach it was served with too. John P, our server, was great as well! After we left the restaurant in Gainesville and had continued our drive to Webster FL, I realized I accidentally left my phone at the table. A quick phone call later, the manager assured me they had found it and would mail it back to me the next business day. I received it the very next day after she sent it! So grateful and want to thank the manager there for such wonderful service!! Didn't want to think about having to replace not only the phone but all the data, contacts, etc.

I went here with a friend from out of town per her request. I was unimpressed. The service was quick enough, but my experience left a lot to be desired. The appetizers (fried mozzarella, stuffed mushrooms, & calamari rings, and artichoke dip) were just okay. The mozzarella was hot & crispy (sadly, the highlight of the meal), the stuffed mushrooms were slimy (and i usually love anything mushroom), & the calamari was rubber. I did not taste the artichoke dip. On to the unlimited salad bowl....The salad had too much dressing on it & the breadsticks were cold. I was looking forward to this salad because it's been years since I've eaten at OG, but I remembered their salad being great. Well, not a great start, but I was still looking forward to my Ravioli di Formagio. It looked nothing like I anticipated, but upon cutting it open, I was pleasantly surprised by the cheesy richness that greeted my taste buds. There is a pink sauce around the outside of the dish that was a little odd... Almost like curdled pink milk. Still, the "lasagna" itself was good, so I pressed on until... Something I cannot chew up: a 2" piece of plastic!!! When the waitress arrived to ask how our meal was & we showed her the plastic, she immediately apologized and left. Along came the Manager. She was nice enough, asking if she could have them remake the dish or if I'd like anything else, perhaps a dessert? I said I had planned on the tiramisu and a cup of coffee, and my friend ordered the chocolate cake & coffee. Both were good, but didn't taste like they were homemade. (The desserts and coffee were comped, as was my plastic lasagna, but a warning: they charge $2.30 for plain coffee!!! Really? Is coffee so expensive that restaurants can't afford to offer it free to customers that spend a minimum of $15/person for lunch?) I will definitely NOT be returning to OG in the near future.

I'm reviewing this as the restaurant itself, not the chain. This Olive Garden was pretty typical. The food came out quickly, was hot and tasty. The staff was friendly and cared for our table quickly. Not much else to say besides it was enjoyable and clean. I'd visit it again.

Service was so so slow our waiter was horrible and had no business working in a restaurant. We waited 30 minutes for our checks and they were all screwed up. We had a party of 7 and had 4 separate checks, only 1 was close to correct. They also added an 18% gratuity which is for parties of 8 or more and they wouldn't remove it. Our waiter didn't deserve any tip but he ended up getting over $20! I've been there many times but the last few the service has been declining.

When I think of lunch out, I do not ever think of Olive Garden. There was once a time in the mid 80's that my mother and I would frequent there on our weekend shopping outing's. Back then it was just endless salad and their slogan was "Good times, Great Salad, Olive Garden" Now its "When you're here you're family" which should be changed to "When you're here you're among mediocrity" Lets face it, the OG isn't Italian food. Its theme park Italian fare, that is safe and middle of the road and never ever changes. That doesn't make them a horrible place, I just have a better palate then that now. The ONLY time I have gone there in the past decade, was because my coworkers decided to go for a team meeting, or holiday lunch. Which is why I was there today. 15 of us shuffled in, they had a table waiting because we called them ahead of time. Only it was too small tables pushed together and when we all sat down we were bumping elbows and some had Bottom half spillage onto the next chair (I work with some big gals). I asked the manager if we could get some bigger tables, the restaurant was not full at all, and he actually gave me attitude and said no! I searched our waitress out and she actually made it happen, it took all of 5 seconds to switch. The two waitresses we had were magnificent, some hiccups here and there like skipping a person when taking orders, and not bringing out right soup, but it was all taken care of very quickly. Most of us got the AYCE breadsticks, salad and soup. A few got Paninis and the AYCE option, and some got regular entree items. The bread sticks came out first and over the years they have become just tasteless to me, they used to be so garlicky and scrumptious but now they are manufactured in Bizarro Tuscany which isnt as delicious as real Tuscany. The salads came next, and they are really pretty good. The dressing comes on them and you must toss it to coat otherwise you will get undressed salad and that sounds like it would be awesome but its not. The house dressing is an Italian one, go figure, but its really very mild tasting. The soups didnt come out for another 45 minutes, which was the kitchens fault not the wait staff. Those gals kept apologizing to us and filling our salad bowls like magical salad fairies flitting around us with cheese graters and tongs. Once our soups came out we all had eaten 2 1/2 bowls of salad (some more than that, see above reference to big gals) I had the Chicken and Gnocchi soup, which is a cream based soup with spinach, chicken sausage, carrots, celery and gnocchi. It was okay, needed salt and pepper big time. The next soup I had was the new Chicken Florentine which is tomato based with chicken and spinach and potato. That one tasted just like a tomato basil. All were okay, filled me up for sure. A few women got entrees and sent a few back, and they might have been bad, or good , I dont know...because their lives are only fulfilled if they are the center of attention and complaining about perfectly fine food is exactly something they would do (especially the one who wanted to go to Chilis and we outvoted her) I left satisfied, full, and Happy we went .....but I wont go back until next holiday or meeting happens. Its cheap and filling but unexciting or that tasty and I need those things in a restaurant.

No way up to par as before. Seems to be less quality and quantity for the same price you could pay at carraba's. baked ziti according to them is ziti noodles, a little marinara sauce and some cheese....very dry. And the lemon grilled chicken, the cream sauce should stick to the pasta correct? But no it was in a puddle in the bottom of the dish. Do not recommend!

In a good location on Archer Rd., just off of I-75 and close to all of the hotels. Just a typically Olive Garden meal. The salad and bread sticks were as yummy as usual. The Lasagna Rollo al Forno and the 4 cheese ziti were good but nothing to write home about. We were offered a wine tasting sample once we were seated. It was a moscato. I know they offer the wine in hopes you love it and buy a glass with dinner, but moscato, a dessert wine?? Other tables were offered a red wine (either pinot or sangiovese). We were 'over served'. Too happy and chirpy waitress that came by every seven minutes. Service was prompt and good, just overbearing. I still think the meals are overpriced: 2 pasta dished and 2 iced teas were $31 before gratuity.

I was satisfied with my trip to OG seeing as how I already know it is a commercial Italian place. If you guys want authentic Italian cuisine....go to Italy. That being said, my trip there was pleasant. My waitress was sweet and energetic. She was also speedy. Our entrees came out so fast we weren't even done with our first salad yet. Only negative is she forgot that we asked for more breadsticks, but after we asked a second time she brought them promptly. As far as OG's go, this is one of the better experiences I've had.

Had the two for $25 for lunch. It includes the salad & breadsticks, which we love. Our food was good. Our server, John, was attentive. Oh, try one of their new summer drinks--they're delicious.

Poor service, waited a looooooooooooong time for drinks n bread. The soup was mainly broth and NONE of the never ending pasta was worth a damn! LOTS of noodles, little sauce and cold. (Probably from so much noodles that has been sitting around all day and a touch of sauce that was gross anyways!) I would rather go to Mc Donald's than this place again.

We tried to handle the noise, disheveled tables, funky smell, and long wait... We couldn't, so we left before ordering. No thanks.

I love the unlimited soup, salad, breadsticks for $7 for a work lunch break. I've never had to wait more than 2 minutes for a table around 12p weekdays. Peach Bellini teas are awesome and free refills too! Service is typically good. Parking can be difficult at times, but will still make a good lunch-hour spot with co-workers.

So about a year ago, my husband and I swore we would never go to the Gainesville Olive Garden again. This was due to 2 consecutive visits in which we both left with food poisoning! Last night, I talked him into going back. I figured it had been a year and we should give them a chance to redeem themselves.... After a 20 minute wait, we were shown to our table. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay. The waitress came back with a glass of red wine. I told her that was not a Chardonnay as I ordered and she was like "oh, its not?". Seriously?? I asked for a glass of water with my wine- the waitress finally remembered about 45 minutes later and then it took another 10 minutes to get a straw. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees. I chose to have house salad and my husband chose the ceaser salad. First my salad came out. Should have been the appetizer first but ok. I started to eat my salad and the waitress came back 5 minutes later and asked my husband if he would like a soup since he wasn't going to eat the salad. He reminded her he ordered a ceasar salad and she said "oh yes, let me see if its ready". It was obvious she had forgotten. She came back with a bowl of romaine drenched in dressing for him. Strange thing was the ceasar salad had no croutons! I also overheard her tell one of the tables behind us that since the kitchen was low on onion and they had been pushing it to the side she was going to take it to be reused- what?? No wonder we left there with food poisoning in the past!! As we were eating our salads, our entrees were brought out! Still no appetizer? I had them take the food away and requested that it was cooked fresh to be served after our appetizer and after we finished our salad. A few minutes later our appetizer arrived- obviously reheated! They did bring our entrees back out a little while later and they seemed fresh. At this point I certainly did not want dessert, but the waitress never asked about dessert or coffee just dropped off the check and disappeared. Good news is we are not spending today hugging the toilets but I still will never return to the Gainesville Olive Garden.

I'm conflicted because I hate waiting for overpriced food, but I love the look on my friends' faces when I have the waiters sing to them when it isn't actually their birthday.

They microwaved the leftovers from Macaroni Grill but don't let you draw on the tablecloth. I could have stayed home for this shit.

Can't go wrong with Olive Garden - I'm all about their salad and breadsticks and their fetuccini alfredo (I measure the strengths of Italian restaurants by this dish). I wonder if the old lady waitress still works there. I remember her being there my entire time at UF.

  • Mark Y.

I have been an avid visitor of OG over the years, but I must be honest their food has fallen off some, not enough that I would stop going but enough that you may consider OG a close second to Carrabba's. Still their salads, breadsticks are good and their food portions are large enough to carry home a little something for later.

Thank you Olive Garden for adding a gluten-free pasta to your menu. However I am sad to say that outside of your bread-sticks, I am extremely disappointed in the quality of your food. As of right now we will not be stepping back in to this establishment. I gave them a 2 as an upgrade since they added gluten-free options. Good gesture, but the food still stinks.

This is our first time to the restaurant. We arrived at 8pm on a Sunday night and we did not need to wait to be seated. We had a 3 course dinner (soup, shrimp penne and limon cello mousse) of which the price is reasonable and the taste is good. The server is helpful and the service is great.

we have been to the new Olive Garden on Lake City, Fl. and I have never had such excellent service in a chain restaurant. The waitress Renee J. Was top of the line, I have been there 3 times and what a great experience. I can not say enough great things about the new Olive Garden in Lake City.

Typical chain food. I am extremely disappointed that there is a lack of good Italian in gainesville to compete with such monstrousity.

Gotta love Olive Garden. The food is consistent and the service is usually pretty good. I love being able to fill up on soup, salad and breasticks and having a lot of my entree to go. Gotta have the tour of italy... it is good. I especially like the meat ravioli. Usually I get one of the many specials they have going... those are usually good.

  • Lanise A.

The smell. Everyone talks about this particular smell when they first walk in. I couldn't agree more. I believe their carpet needs to be replaced especially from the years of people walking up and down and possibly food and drinks being spilled. My server was pretty great and always making sure I was taken care of. I didn't really like where I was seated. I was in the back of the restaurant where the cool air wasn't, but then again all I could breath was that weird restaurant stench...must be the carpet. Went for the Italian Duos and ordered the Chicken Alfredo & Mac & Cheese. Chicken Alfredo was pretty skimp on the sauce. Mac & Cheese was nothing to write home about. I wish we had the freedom to customize our Italian duos so we could pick exactly what we want for $11.99. My biggest mistake was paying $7 for a small slice of Tuxedo cake. Don't get me wrong it was tasty, but now I see the importance of coupons for free dessert.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
