It was good. They got everything I asked for.

I walked out after asking the guy if they had any soup ready (so they wouldny have to make any just for me) and he was just really rude about it, so after a moment of shock I just left.

Used to be my go to place for cheap Chinese food. They took a huge nose dive since opening in food quality. Stopped going after I kept finding hairs in my order.

I read the solid reviews and decided to drop in for an early lunch. While waiting for my order I couldn't help but look around the restaurant and noticed just how dirty the dining room area is. The grime built up on the floor, the counters, under the tables, and around the trash can made it very clear that the place must not have been deep cleaned in quite some time. When the food came out, it was very good. I had a hard time eating it wondering what the kitchen must look like if the dining area was so poorly cleaned and ended up throwing most of it away.

After reading so many reviews of various Chinese food locations in Gainesville, the reviews listed here seemed most appealing. I ordered delivery, and yes, the past reviews are right: it takes "forever". I waited about 50 minutes, which is longer than the usual waiting time. I chose the General Tso's chicken combination (comes with an egg roll and fried rice) and a side of shrimp fried rice, as I wasn't sure how much rice would be included in just the combination. Food finally arrived, and I dug straight in. My hunger took control and the food tasted amazing at first.. General Tso's chicken was delicious, and the serving size was ENORMOUS--for an average girl. I could hardly finish half of the chicken. I did however, finish the fried rice that came with it, but barely made a dent in the shrimp fried rice. Basically, the serving size was WELL WORTH IT compared to the price. The total came up to barely $13 and I felt like I ate $50 worth of food. Only complaints: fried rice was insanely greasy.. and yellow. (Not sure if fried rice is supposed to be yellow.) The complimentary egg roll wasn't good either.

The food is very good, but the restaurant is filthy.

I've always enjoyed the food here, but the last few times I've ordered delivery I've either gotten the wrong order entirely (orange chicken and beef with broccoli instead of general tsos and chicken and broccoli with three egg rolls) or in the most recent incident, I was charged for extra broccoli that didn't come on my order, but also was charged for at least one egg roll of three that I ordered and payed for but did not receive. Not one "extra" piece of broccoli and no egg rolls. Just pretty lame.

Great food. Their shrimp in lobster sauce is very good. Great honey chicken dish. Just like NYC's Flushing area. Good soup too.

This is a classic "New York" style Chinese, but the food suggests that the owners really care about it. The fried rice is always excellently seasoned with small pieces of pork in it. The dishes always have a great balance of veggies and protein and the sauces and flavors are crafted superbly fresh with each dish. You are not going to get fine dining or any special ambiance, but the food is top notch in its category.

Whenever I'm sick and locked up in my apartment or really craving cheep Chinese food, I order from here Their delivery wait is a bit long but their food is always fresh. Best hot and sour soup I've had! I tried to order if from another restaurant in Tampa and it couldn't compare to Hot Wok's. Never had something I didn't like, and the prices are fair. Like Kerby (my roommate) said, I wish they were open longer!

Was asked to be put on hold. Waited 15 minutes, just listening them playing and giggling the whole time, sounded like there was too much playing around going on and not enough work. Then someone finally realized no one had been calling for 15 minutes then picked up the phone and hung up. Seriously?

Pretty cheap delivery and always good. I've only gotten delivery but it's always fresh so I can't complain about the 45 min-1hr wait. Food's hot too so I know they're not lollygagging. Good variety on their menu. Haven't had something I don't like, nor have my roommates. Wish they were open longer in the PM, I love 1 AM Chinese!

I ate here on Christmas day, a la Christmas Story. Starch in a Styrofoam box. Only recommended in emergencies. The do serve very large portions. Staff was friendly

A simple, New York-style Chinese restaurant that mainly does a business in take-out and has not been updated or renovated probably for years, but had better quality and variety of food than most of the quick Chinese take-out places you find in shopping plazas. Their portions are larger than most, too. It seems to be regarded by most people I know--along with the Chinese place in the Publix shopping center at the intersection of 34th and Williston Road--as the best of its kind in town. I would say that South Garden is better all around, but given their location in Haile Plantation they are far out of my way. Hot Wok is fine, in fact better than just fine, for quick Chinese take-out though.

In my opinion, this place is no frills. But it is the best Chinese in Gainesville. Location far from where I live in Gainesville, but still, I can't take away from it what it deserves. Based on the food alone, it's 5 Stars for the tastiest Chinese in town.

The staff appear to be new to America, which means the food might be a little more authentic, but the food is heavily influenced by American Chinese Food styles. It's typical Chinese dishes, nothing special. The food was really good, though, and so far is the best I've had in Gainesville.

One of the best Chinese takeouts in the area.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
