This place makes more from their fries and drinks than burgers! The prices are ridiculous for fries and drinks ($2.50 for a small). The fries were over salted and over cooked. The burgers are good, and I would recommend just getting a burger or sandwich. I had a small sandwich, small fry and small drink and it came to $10! WTF?! Seriously? Not worth it and only the sandwich was good. Also, after visiting a few 5 Guys, the whole shtick of yelling out orders and yelling out other things gets old and silly.

Five Guys is awesome. Was excited to see them finally open in Gainesville. Ocala has had 2 locations for some time now. I try and stop by anytime I am down that way. But I work in G-ville, so now I have 1 locally. I have only visited the G-ville location once so far, but it wasn't the same as the Ocala locations. I realize it's brand new and the staff probably is still getting the kinks worked out. Food was great....no complaints. It was busy, but not slammed. Trash cans were full and the few empty tables were dirty. I also noticed a few incorrect orders....they forgot the A-1 on mine. But I will give them the benefit of the doubt and I will definitely return as I am a Five Guys fan and the food is awesome. For those that have never been, pay attention to the fry cook. I ordered a large fry the first time I ever visited a Five Guys.....didn't know about the extra scoop of fries they dump in the bag. Couldn't eat them all! MY BURGER: Bacon burger, all the way (lettuce, tomato, pickle, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, green peppers, ketchup, mayo, mustard), ask for the peppers to be grilled, add raw onions and A-1 sauce. You won't be disappointed.

After every meal I eat here I feel like dying, but in a good way. Like every other restaurant I eat until it hurts and Five Guys makes that really easy to do. Their food makes me feel like the opposite of a balloon (like a lead anvil?) so I lay down on my living room floor and the forces of gravity feel 10 times greater than normal. I lay there unable to talk, wondering if this is how it will all end. I'm a healthy 21-year-old guy, but I wouldn't blame my arteries one bit if they just called it quits. After about three hours the gravitational power reduces to it's normal level and I go back to watching Treehouse Masters, by far the #1 show on television. I'll be back at Five Guys next week.

I know usually people talk about 5 guys like it's heaven on a bun and the burgers are good but honestly the food costs more than a restaurant burger and has double the calories of most and even though I keep coming back I can't understand why the burgers are always soggy, if I gets burger to go by the time I get home it's plan mush. The staff at this store are always friendly and the manager makes it a point to greet customers.

This is one of the best and the liveliest burger spots in Gainesville - they make excellent burgers. The sandwiches are highly customizable too. After you choose your burger, you can fill it up with any veggies you want, and you can dress it up with any sauce. The best thing about this place (at least for me) though is the fries. I for one like to munch on a lot of fries after having a sandwich and these guys give out a huge quantity of them. They also have cajun fries if you want to go for something spicier.

Originally from Washington DC I've always been a fan of Five Guys so was super excited when this place first opened. I get a small burger and small fry (Cajun style of course!) and it is always more than enough food. The staff here is always attentive and friendly, with the same style you would get at any of the original Five Guys in DC. Only thing I'd change is the soda machine. When they first opened I swear their machine made the best tasting Coke I've ever had. That sounds odd because well it's Coke, right? How different could it be? But recently they installed one of those soda machines with the hundreds of different flavors, and that regular old Coke just does not taste as good :( Wish they could go back to that old machine.

The burgers are good, but the food is expensive and very greasy. Being that the burgers are cooked on a griddle, and not an open flamed grille, the food burger patty really soaks up the grease. The fires are good, you can share a fry with 2 or 3 people. Not much else to say about a burger joint. I do recommend it if you want a good burger.

One of the best burgers in the town! Look out for cajun fries which are really unique and good in taste. Typical Floridaish ambience. Open end outside but don't get burned during summer. Really good hospitality and quick peanuts to chomp in. Give it a try for burgers!

Sometimes you just feel like a nice good juicy burger. What I like about 5 guys is the number of items I can get on my burger. Ask for grilled onions, you get grilled onions, asked for grilled jalapeno's you get jalapenos. No 'we don't do that' here. Anyone who knows 5 guys knows you only need to order one small fry and that can be shared by 2 or even 3 people. I like the cajun fries the best. Only complaint is they need more seating at this location. When it's busy it's very crowded.

Delicious burgers. Good fries, too. Employees are so friendly and funny. Agreed, though, that the parking lot is just a disaster area.

I have wanted to try this place for awhile, since it took over the corner of a newly renovated strip mall off Archer Road. I had heard that they had great burgers, fresh ingredients, quick service. We arrived around 6:00 on a friday. Place was moderately busy. James and I both ordered a Hamburger (4.89$) Mine was all the way (ketchup, mayo, mustard, tomato, lettuce, pickles, Grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms) He got the same except no mayo (he is smooth enough without it!) There are other toppings you can add like: jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A1 steak sauce, BBQ sauce, and Hot sauce. Next time I might go for the Jalapenos. We also got an order of regular fries(2.69$), which also come cajuned, and two regular drinks (1.89$ x 2) The whole order was 18 bucks and change. Sat down , and waited to hear our number, grabbed ketchup and malt vinegar for the fries. I love malt vinegar on fries, reminds me of the "boardwalk fries" that used to be in the Oaks Mall where Cinnabon is now. Order is called and we get our food. Open the burger diapers up and they are gigantic! Two patties? Didnt know that, or didnt remember. The meat patties were a little too well done for me,, but still really good. Buns were solid, tomatoes and lettuce were fresh. Pickles were plentiful. Next time I would not get the ketchup and mustard because that over powered the mushrooms and onions. Fries were crispy and salty a bit on the overdone side but still tasty, especially vinegared. Overall a good messy satisfying burger. I will absolutely come here again, get a "little hamburger" , because the big girl one was way too much food!

Service- very rapidly. And quick.. But we went when they were not busy... Food- burger was excellent, good amount quantity of friess Atmosphere- eh it was okay... They can theme it a bit more... Everything was compact. Overall it was a good burger.. Alot topping selections :-). Beats backyard burger anyday!

  • John K.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It is a bit pricey for a burger joint, but you get unlimited toppings on your burger for no extra charge! And the fries...fresh cut from potatoes that come from different farms on a rotating basis. And they give you so many fries. One small order is enough to feed two people. The only problem I have with this location is the lack of parking, and the dangerous layout of the parking lot. But that's not really their fault...it's just the way the strip mall is built.

Its good to see the East Coast is just as good as the West Coast version. Took the girl and head on down to try them. I had a cheeseburger all the way with relish and peppers added on. She had a hamburger all the way. Neat thing is the regular burgers are double patties. If you want a single you have to get a "little" burger. Food was just as good as the one I had back in California. The girl wasn't too fond of the place actually. She said In N Out was better, but I disagree. Food taste so much better here it doesn't taste laden with salt. Cajun fries aren't all that spicy though.. But I still like em. Parking sucks though. Had to 3-point turn into the place. Bleh.

We had never experienced a Five Guys until they opened up the Gainesville location. We had passed the signs on the highway and heard from numerous friends across the country about their superiority to In-N-Out, so when they opened up, we were there. Gotta say, we weren't disappointed. The burgers are what burgers should be. The fries are fantastic (albeit a bit over-salted at times) and work really well with their burgers. We don't really get the comparison to In-N-Out; they're definitely more comparable to Backyard Burger price wise. What isn't all that great is that their "vegetarian" is just everything but the meat. How can a business in this day and age not have a veggie patty for such a big part of the population? Especially in a town like Gainesville, where it definitely pays to be veg-friendly. While we were satisfied, our veggie friends were left wanting. Oh and be prepared to wait. Every time we drive by there is a huuuuuuuuge line. Guess that has to say something, right?

    (4)
  • Chelsea R.

Being a vegetarian I thought I would comment on John G.'s review. While it is true, for vegetarians five guys is not going to be a restaurant with many options (not that is is for the carnivores out there either...). But if you do get dragged there with your meat eating friends you are not totally out of luck either. They grill/cook all their veges on a separate grill from the burgers and for about $2.5 you can get a vege sandwich, which is surprisingly good. A lot of this probably had to do with the grilled mushrooms and grilled onions which I am a major sucker for, but also as John said the buns they have there are remarkably good. If you do decide to go with the vege sandwich I would recommend getting cheese on it otherwise there will be nothing to hold all the veges you put on it actually on the bun. Now if you have ever wanted to visit New York but never had the chance to you should stop by Five Guys for a good taste of if. There is no parking, long lines, high prices, minimal seating and until you leave you will be uncomfortably close to everyone around you. Yet just like NY some people swear by it.

Their hotdogs are delicious... grilled beef hotdogs cut down the middle... try it with sauteed onions its delicious! they also have a large variety of toppings for the burgers, I tried the burger with a-1 sauce today and it was delicious!! the fries are delicious, made with the skins still on and seasoned very well!! Worth a visit... and if you have time, get some chik-fil-a sauce from down the street and use it for dipping!!!! :)

I was so looking forward to having a Five Guys cheeseburger and cajun fries for dinner last night. I have tried a few of the Five Guys locations in Orlando and found them to be consistently delicious. I was extremely disappointed with the Gainesville Five Guy's though. I ordered my cheeseburger " extra well done, more so than normal, practically on the burnt side." I even mentioned this to the cashier because I can't stand to have any pink in my burger and she assured me she noted it down. I drive all the way home, open my burger, and take a bite..... it was all pink!! Not just in the center either, on the edges as well. I was very disappointed and not to mention disgusted. The burger I planning to have for dinner went right into the trash can. I was very annoyed , especially because I requested that my burger be extra well done more than once to the cashier taking my order. The Cajun fries were good, but sadly I can't recommend the burgers here. I will not return here.

Best burgers? Yes, unless you're a good cook and do it yourself. Best fries? No, not THE best, but close enough. Best service? Absolutely! The friendly, quirky staff at this location changed my whole mood for the day - you guys rock! Not exactly a diet platter, but if you are breaking training, you couldn't pick a better place!

  • Matt H.

The place is good but I just don't see what all the hype is for. Maybe because they get the food to you so fast as that style of restaurant is all the rage these days. I'd give them 3.5 stars but yelp doesn't let you do that. For me I'd rather spend an extra buck and get a real burger cooked slowly over an open flame rather then something smashed real thin on a flat top. That's not to say I won't be back to Five Guys but I just won't be back more then once every few months. Props to the owners of this particular Five Guys for pumping out the food a lot faster then other locations.

Five guys is almost the only fast food store I go in Gainesville. I like the fact that they have grilled mushroom, grilled onion, and lettuce in their burgers. It tastes a lot of better than McDonald's. I also like their fries, but sometimes they are a little soggy. In general, it is pretty good; I would say it is as good as "In-N-Out". Additionally, the staffs are nice and always check whether everything is good.

  • Rach H.

Like other reviews, I have to mark down on the parking for this place. Awkward to say the least. You walk up to a cashier and order from a list of condiments, no extra charge per item which is nice. I went with my boyfriend and we both got our own fries, unnecessary since one order would of been more then enough. I don't use Malt vinegar often, with the Cajun fries it's really good. They ran out of ketchup during my visit and an employee switched out the huge container without any complaint. I can't help but feel queasy after I leave here, but I have a sensitive stomach. Definitely greasy but really good every once in a while. The place could stand to be a little bigger, there's a lot of milling around awkwardly when you're waiting for your food or getting a refill.

FIVE GUYS!! Two things I consistently notice about this place: there's always someone here walking around mumbling "Well, I'VE never eaten here, but everyone I know loves it," and no matter how empty it is when I arrive, inevitably twenty more people come through before I leave. Burgers, as usual, are delicious. I have not experienced Dee B's issue with a burger only cooked to medium (and believe me, I've looked). If anything, the burgers I get would make excellent hockey pucks. But that's not what makes me happy here. No, I'm excited because ... ... the fries are good. Seriously! All three of my prior 5 Guys experiences had consistently nasty fries (Fayetteville, NC, Tampa, Lakeland). The ones here are fabu! I do wish they were open a little later, but like Chick-Fil-A's "Closed Sunday" policy, I've just had to learn to get past it. :P

There is no parking, long lines, high prices, minimal seating and until you leave you will be uncomfortably close to everyone around you. Yet just like NY some people swear by it.
