Really great atmosphere at this spot. We took our catch from deep sea fishing (grouper and snapper) and they prepared it for us - fried and blackened. We ordered sides (meh) to go with our fish - charged us $13.99 PP and we brought our own fish (that's why only 4 stars). Happy that we didn't have to cook the fish and got to enjoy our meals while watching the locals dance on the outdoor patio. Firecracker shrimp appetizer was awesome!

Friendly place, nicely situated with large outdoor dock and good sized indoor with AC. We had the Crabcake sandwich and the Mahi sandwich - both ok, nothing brilliant. The fries were great. The slaw was quite bad - surprisingly - and the red sauce that came with the Mahi also disappointed. Might be worth another visit, but I'd like to see this place try harder.

I took my wife to the SwordFish Grill and we loved it ! The view out in the deck made us feel we were in Key Largo, and the live entertainment and friendly staff keeped us there for hours. Try the Oscar Grouper you won't be disappointed! A+

Excellent atmosphere out on the deck, good view, and the food is very good as well. Lots to choose from on the menu even if you have a picky eater in the group. The White Pelicans are fun to watch. We will be back.

Great tropical atmosphere. Incredible food and outstanding service. Peggy was our server and she was super.

2nd time that I've been here. Didn't think that the service could get worse but I was wrong. The waitress clearly didn't want to be here. Threw coasters and glared at us. Do they have a manager? It's a shame, the food is good. My goodness, too many places to eat to put up with this.

Love the outside Tiki Bar area. Food is very good and we enjoy the local entertainment. Great place to take visitors from the north.

This place served me and my friend salads with several slices of SLIMY, DECOMPOSING cucumber. Disgusting. Their staff is either blind or stoned or both. The waitress was totally disinterested when I told her, she just stared off into space and said, "Oh, ok.". So strange. Our partners ate their meals so we paid and left. What a horrible place. Never go there.

Go for the waterside deck, not the food. What is it with every place in Bradenton/Anna Maria/Longboat....if it's on the water why can't the food be good? Everything is either fried or smothered in sauce. Why can't they just serve you a clean and fresh tasting piece of fish without blackening spice that obscures the taste of the fish....or fried to oblivion so all you taste is greasy fried crust? Lackluster salads, mediocre crab cakes.....they're all the same.

I just came to the Swordfish Grill because I was told they had new management and to ignore the previous reviews because it was so much better now. We were a party of 9 for a birthday dinner including 2 kids on a Friday night- could have been a potential disaster... But it was so fantastic! The service was great, food was great, and live entertainment was fun! Highly recommend the conch fritters, shrimp and grits, lobster Mac and cheese, and ahi tuna salad. Can't wait to go back!

First impression: I'm not sure what to make of this place. I wish I could give it 3 stars, to be honest. I don't want to knock it for the atmosphere, because it's not my style. But part of me thinks Swordfish could pull off the "low key, loud music" motif just a little better. I loved the band, but hated that it was so loud I couldn't think. My meal was actually awful (grouper bearnaisse, where the grouper was unfortunately overcooked), but my family all enjoyed their dishes. I thought our server was a bit daft - it took way too long to get a glass of water - but it was also a busy night. I think this place deserves another shot, but for now I'm "meh" at best.

The BEST grilled Mahi Mahi tacos ever! Very casual-great to pull up in a boat and either eat outside, at the bar outside, or inside w air conditioning. Kid friendly but also perfect island drinks available! Recommend the Cortez Cooler.

Wow, what a great and different menu! From seafood lasagna to oysters 20 different ways! They have the best rum runners around! I love this place! Go where the locals go! This is it!

We visited here because we had a large group and knew they could probably accommodate us. They had a live band playing on the outside deck but we opted to sit inside because it was really hot and humid. We ordered drinks and their menu is pretty much average for beer selections. I opted for just a water with lemon. I ordered the fried clam strip dinner with fries cole slaw and hush puppies. My hubby got the shrimp and grits dinner. My dinner was your average run of the mill as I think my clams were frozen and fried out of the bag. My cole slaw was good. My hubby's shrimp looked like they were swimming in a bowl of cream. The grits seemed really soupy and there wasn't very many shrimp. He commented to me that he was disappointed in the dish. What's even worse is he really didn't much about it which generally translates to he didn't like it. Oh keepers forgot we ordered fried green tomatoes as our appetizer and they were delish they are served with a mayo based zesty sauce yummy! Our server was gracious as he asked if we wanted dessert and we were all way too full but he delivered us complimentary desserts of a chocolate mousse cake and a chocolate cream cake and they were both excellent. My overall feeling is the place is really good for fried dinners some fresh some frozen I guess you need to ask your server what's what but it was okay and I would perhaps make a return trip. Just next time asking more questions of my server cause if I'm in Florida I want fresh seafood I can get frozen in Ohio thank you very much.

Excellent last minute choice!! We will definitely make this a regular stop when we are in town! We had 2 stellar dishes; the seafood lasagna and the grouper piccata were out of this world!! Super friendly servers, too!!

Last evening we had a wonderful dinner....food was served hot...We had a taste of the shrimp cajun chowder...it was wonderful so we ordered a cup, and shared as we each were ordering...I had the conch fritters and mixed the sauce with ketchup and my partner had a delicious grouper sandwich.....Greg the manager stopped , by table to check on our meal and the only thing better was the service. The young lady was very attentive but not intrusive......which made for a very relaxing and enjoyable meal. The outside deck dining is a large area over looking , the water.......When in the Cortez, Anna Maria or Bradenton area make this cocktail, lunch or dinner stop you will not regret this meal. Enjoyed sitting outside by the tiki bar on the water. We enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer. I had the Hand Battered Fried Shrimp with fries and Pineapple Slaw. Loved the shrimp and pineapple slaw. I expected steak fries or some other typical restaurant fries but was pleasantly surprised with the crispy fries. We were still there when the live music started - really enjoyed the bluesy mix. Will remember this for future visits.

Great casual atmosphere. Outdoor deck overlooks the bay ( watch the birds & boats). There was live the night we went. The bacon, jalapeño oysters are one of the best appetizers I've ever had! I had the shrimp scampi it was very good. Everybody n my party was satisfied with their meal. Service was very good ( pleasant & attentive). Would definitely go again!

Our waitress was superb & made me up a custom fried green tomatoes salad with extra fresh mango! Portion so large that I will take it home to enjoy tonight! My husbands crab sandwich was equally as good! Great lunch!!

Went last night with co-workers to socialize on a Friday night. The food was okay. The shrimp corn chowder had nice flavor and spice. Shrimp and grits tasted more like a shrimp alfredo over grits with bacon and a few jalapenos thrown in. Not the best...decent flavor though. My friends had fried shrimp that looked good and the Steak looked good, but for $25 for the steak dinner, it should have been a thicker cut of steak and included more that a small serving of boiled new potatoes. No salad or vegetable at all. The worst thing about our evening at the Swordfish was the music. We were told by the waitress that because of the rain, the music moved inside. All well and good, but TURN DOWN THE VOLUME ON YOUR AMP when you are in a low ceiling, tin roof, non-acoustical building... the singer was also not very good. Had a shrill voice. The waitress told the manager a couple of times about the complaints (and we were not the only ones complaining), but the manager did not do a thing. Would i go back ever again- probably not. Would not want to take the chance that the music would be SO LOUD. When your diners are having to scream at each other to hear and still cannot, it makes for a very poor experience. The crowd that was there was not wanting to have blasting music, they were there to enjoy some nice FL seafood on the water.

baked oysters & grouper sandwich all good.. Great view and not yet overrun by tourist and miserable retired folks. Good place to lay low for lunch on our day off. Peter & Holly should relax a bit and try being nice to people....the foods better that way.

The ROMEOs just had lunch there today. Outstanding spicy shrimp and corn chowder and the best Apalachicola Oysters in Manatee county. Other members of the group tried the pulled pork and barbeque brisket sandwiches to great reviews. Our waitress was outstanding in handling a group of 18 old guys out for lunch and keeping the beer cold and the orders straight. I've been here before in the evening with my wife and always enjoy the sunsets with great seafood on the dock overlooking the bay. Far better than Cortez Kitchen and Star Fish Grill also located in the same neighborhood. It reminds me of Barnegat Light, NJ - A drinking village with a fishing problem!

Went here for lunch. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the great white Pelicans. The restaurant sits on te bay with a great view. I had the shrimp & grits which was flavorful and delicious. Others had fried grouper, grilled mahi mahi and the Full Boat (fried shrimp, clam strips and mahi mahi.). Tried some of the other dishes and they were good as well, the batter was crispy and light.

Pretty much well prepared Sysco fair. Not bad, but nothing special. At least I'm pretty sure the things we had were off some truck. So food was pretty much average, on tab beer selection is average and nothing to write about. The oyster poor boy was good, but much of the oysters were fragments, which seemed odd. But they were tasty. Service was friendly and decent. Really the best part is the deck has a great view and the tiki hut is kind of nice. Much better view than cortez kitchen next door. So my recommendation is when the Star fish is packed and too long of a wait, then come here. That's what we did.

My food was ok, and this place would have gotten an extra star if they didn't have their Wednesday night raffle and the owner didn't tell crappy jokes and raffle off cheap stuff for 20 minutes. I appreciate the effort, but honestly I didn't have a chance to speak with anyone the entire time at dinner but was rather forced to politely sit quietly and listen to what he had to say. It wasn't entertaining nor did it need to be. Don't Wednesday nights. With that said, I'd go again on another night and might change my rating.

Formerly the Bayside Banquet Hall, My best friend had her wedding here 3/26/12 and it has been a total nightmare for her. She booked the site in october of 2011 and was excited because it seemed perfect. She came back in December only to find that Patty (the person of contact and supposed owner) was retiring and her son had taken over and turned the banquet location into a crabby bill like resurant. All of the decorations were gone, a bar had been build and a kitchen were altered making it a totally unwedding friendly venue. Not a word was mentioned to my friend. Being an optomist and having a never ending can do attitude, she decied to have her weeding there and not waste the time trying to find a new venue. The days before the wedding the staff was unaware that a wedding was even taking place and when we tried to drop off things on several occasions for the event we were greeted by blank stares and We don t do weddings, we are a resturant now. Having no other options we proceded. We hired a caterer and when they tried to set up for cocktail hour, Patty refused to let them set up inside, where the bride requested. At 80 degrees...our cheese and fruit trays were made to sit in the sun. The table clothes were stained and differing sizes. The only saving grace was we were allowed to come in a decorate and try and make sence of the caios created for us by the owners. If it had been my wedding I would have been calling the better buisness bueru and a lawyer...unacceptable.Please dont go here, they will cause nothing but stress. They are now a resturant called the swordfish grill. dont give them a chance....if they run one buisness like that, they will run every endevor with the same integrity.

We always end up waltzing in here if we are not able to find a table at the crazy busy Cortez Kitchen next door which always has entertainment at any given evening. Food is hit and miss, in other words, very inconsistent. On our recent visit, I ordered Mahi fish tacos which I couldn't finish because they were so over seasoned and therefore very salty. We also ordered a lobster Mac and cheese which was undelectably swimming in cheese and cream sauce... Finesse please, short order cooks ... Don't overseason and over salt just because you have to hurry dishes out if the kitchen... The seafood nachos was the winner of the night , though again, over-cheesed, but very generous with the shrimp.

We love Swordfish Grillle! Love the ahi tuna app, fish tacos ( not San Diego but not bad)! Friendly waitstaff, great view, and happy hour everyday from 4-6. What could be bad?

Delicious food and right on the water. We had the fresh grouper sandwich with fries and the coconut shrimp. It was delicious, and the fries were fresh. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful, too, and there was good live music. One mildly disturbing thing: in the outside bar area, they had some kind of contest where live crabs were put in cups and given to people to carry around. They seemed to have colors painted onto them or some kind of colorful thing stuck to them. The DJ warned people not to pour drinks on them (so you know some fool would be bound to do just that). I was only at the restaurant for an hour and didn't stay for the end of the contest, so I don't know what happened to them. Maybe they were going to have a race with them. Now, while it's true that the crabs were destined for the kitchen in any case, and I have no problem with that, it seemed cruel to drag them around and leave them out of water and in the hot sun or let them be covered in beer by some idiot. It detracted from the dining experience, that's for sure. If you want to do games, don't do them with living creatures. Use some of the plentiful shells on the beach or something.

If drinks by the water and fried food is your thing this is the place for you! I've been here three times and they always have live music; the acts are always pretty good; however the range seems oddly restricted to the years of '74-'82. Somehow the live music acts have been able to make this awful period of American music entertaining; or maybe it's the two for one drink specials talking. The food is mostly fried and is palatable after 3-4 drinks. The crowd is the biggest wild card. Depending on what boats are tied up will slant the demographics. It seems there is always your baseline of shoeless, drunk fishermen. If there are a couple of yachts tied up then the crowd is off - set by a few more white collar folks. The wait staff and management are all friendly and good with kids. Stop by and watch the sunset, enjoy some apps, but don't expect anything but a deep fried meal.

This place rocks. Service was a little slow so I dinged them a star but the food was great. Upscale dive bar and restaurant and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Had the blackened grouper after the shrimp fajita nacho appetizer. Food was outstanding. I heartily recommend!!

We've been here many times but probably just ate our last meal at Swordfish. The food is generally good tiki bar fare. Had grouper today. Very fresh. Probably a little too fresh as parts of it were undercooked. I'm ok with salmon and tuna that is rare, but not grouper. The worst part of the visit was the live entertainment on the deck. Solo singer with a guitar and a decent voice. But once he launched into his "remake of a song from Brokeback Mountain" that involved him baa-ing like a sheep and several offensive jokes, we knew we were having our final meal at this place. The "jokes" just got worse from there. Apparently he is a regular on Sundays. We won't be.

Ok back again over a year ..service and food better ..STILL NO CORN TORTILLA'S Good band for the Crab Claw festival at the Swordfish Grill...(the outside band in the parking lot not so much )..The best tables are at the railing along the water ...great vista's ....however no sun protection !!!!!t there is no Sunscreen in the world that could help here!!!! no fans.. no umbrella's... come on dude it's Florida hot !hot!!! hot!!!!... Just to mention their are some fans on the deck ...however they are bolted to the floor and have only one direction...toooo funny I'm sure you can purchase a rotating fan ??? Soooooo hoping they get it together all the tools sitting right there just have to learn how to operate them........:(((((

Fire-cracker shrimp tacos are delicious! Great outdoor seating with dolphins right off the deck to watch. The service was good and friendly people but do not expect to eat a fast meal. It took a little while to get our food. Flash fried scallops were also delicious and a healthy portion. The Cortez fish market next door makes this a great place for a bite and grab fish for a later meal.

It's only fair that I update my review since I've been eating here somewhat often and have enjoyed it. The food at Swordfish has gotten substantially better. Either that or I'm just ordering better. I've had the following and they were all decent or better than average: Mahi tacos - I wish they came with a side but they are better than decent fish tacos. Shrimp burger - I didn't think this would be good but it was, it was intact shrimp cooked in a ring to form a burger. It was delicious. Shrimp and Grits - It's covered in a sort of gravy that I found really appetizing. These are not Blue Marlin S&G but they are very good. I haven't tried any of the things I previously did not enjoy and probably won't. I have a few go-to items and since the view and ambiance is so nice there I will certainly be back.

The Swordfish Grill menu over promises and under delivers on service and food. Therefore it will cost them a lost second visit next week. What started out to be a pleasant meal has us looking elsewhere for our next seafood meal. Fortunately there are plenty of other seafood restaurants in the Bradenton area. When it was pointed out the delivered food was not what was stated on the menu, the server agreed to remove the charge after we made it a point we were not paying for something that was included per the menu. The charge was removed but the server made it a point to bring another menu that supported his claim. For a couple of dollars over a side, the end result and no future business from us. If you insist on eating at this average establishment, be sure to clarifying what is on the menu is what you will get, including all sides. Consistent with the menu/service issues, the promised music to start at 5 PM was a no show.

Food was great! My husband had the shrimp curry and I had the shrimp an grits. Both were great. The live music for the evening was T C and the Troublemakers who played a variety of music that people of my age would enjoy!

The view is beautiful but the food is less than average. Why do restaurants with a premium view that tourists flock to have to serve such mediocre food. As well, the service can be less than desirable too often. The lobster macn cheese was dry, the bacon wrapped scallops were deep fried - what? They know they have a premium spot and tourists will come but not worth the view if your looking for a good meal - too bad.

I had the swordfish with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables, my wife had the coconut buttered shrimp, garlic potatoes, steamed vegetables, and our guests had the fried shrimp baskets. This meal was far above our expectations and our server Casey did a splendid job. No complaints, just high praise! Thanks Swordfish Grill!

We had a party of 10 and everyone that had food was happy...my husband and I shared the blackened grouper sandwich and it was the best we have ever had....every drink is available for happy hour which was a plus because most places only have select drinks for happy hour or well drinks. My friends loved the shrimp nachos too. We will have to go back and try some more items on the menu.

Good food, great views, pleasant service. This is a good place to go for low key, relaxed local dining. Their shrimp nachos are out of this world. I had the stuffed grouper for dinner and it was very good. We will go back.

This was my second visit. The first visit was with 6 friends. The service was terrific but the food was fair. When the check arrived we noticed we were charged an additional $1.50 for a cup of ice! Ridiculous!! Last night the oysters on the half shell tasted old..the coconut shrimp was ok..BUT, we were charged "BAR EXC $1.50". When I questioned the manager all he said was "I don't know!" I don't either but will not return nor recommend it to anyone. They need to stop charging illegal extras.
