Cortez (the town) is now my go-to place for no-frills food done right (also see: Star Fish Co). This diner in a strip mall hit the spot for breakfast. It is full of locals who appear to eat there every day (at least according to the guy next to us, who told us he walks there every morning for breakfast, which always includes grits unless his wife is with him and forces him to get oatmeal). Anyway, it is not an attractive place but the food was good. And, like the Star Fish Co (also in Cortez), neighbors are chatty. I had the egg BLT and the grits, which was great (grits were yum), but my husband's Greek omelet was a real winner, with lots of fresh spinach and tomatoes.

OK.. so this place is your quintessential local luncheonette/Small diner.. Open for Breakfast and lunch only. This family owned restaurant cares about their customers and as a diner, you feel cared about. Great omelets, made with 4 eggs!!! All fresh ingredients. The grits are the best in town,,, and I have tried just about all the breakfast places in NW Bradenton!.. This place is a well know eatery among the fisherman in Cortez Fishing Village. Give this place a try for Breakfast at the very least.. you will be glad you did.. Just a local joint serving up good cooking with care!

Great service. We got the bacon, 2 eggs, grits, toast and coffee. It was absolutely delicious, and $5. The tea was really good, tasty coffee. Simple and just what you need!

Excellent pancakes, cheap price, no atmosphere In late March 2015 our party of three had breakfast at the Cortez Café. The pancakes were excellent, the Belgian waffle was very good, the hash browns were good, the eggs and sausage were OK but nothing special. The eggs benedict were not good - the sauce did not taste authentic and the ham, although fresh, was sliced too thick. The coffee was OK, not fabulous, but strong enough. The wait service was good and very quick. The atmosphere was non-existent. The Cortez Café's main virtue is that the prices are cheap ($30.00 for three, including tax and tip) and they're next to a coin laundry, so you can kill some time having a meal while doing your laundry. We would not go back.

Found this little hidden gem when our first choice restaurant was closed for painting. There was not a table available immediately but we were brought coffee while we waited, which was a very short time. Our meals were great, with great home fries and hash browns, the omlets were huge with delicious ham, asparagus cooked just right and cheese, my husband had the Greek Benedict and it was great, muffin, thick slice of ham, tomatoes and fresh spinach with a hollandaise sauce and feta cheese. Will definately go again.

This isn't the "latest, hottest" breakfast place around but, it is the best! We've been making our way here for several years and have never been disappointed. My fallback order is corned beef hash, two poached eggs, hash brown potatoes and, rye toast. The Mrs. gets two, over- easy, hash browns and a bagel. Always prepared perfectly. Always! The wait staff never disappoints. They are attentive, prompt and available. What more could you hope for? This place is a gem.

We go to Cortez Cafe many Saturdays and it is EXACTLY what you want in a diner: great food, low prices, extra clean and friendly, quick service.

Being from South Georgia and Charleston, I feel qualified to grade their creamy grits....some of the best!!! Since Sam, the owner is Greek, the gyros and their lemon orzo chicken soup are both excellent. Also their home-fries are very tasty. Love this place!

Nice friendly place.... Very local.... Takes you back in time to what if fishing villages used to be like in Florida or any island community....old time beach cimmunity.... Have the mahi mahi today...very "ono".... This is a very "da kine" place.... Well worth the trip...

Visiting from Texas, I only had yelp reviews to help me find my way. We were initially going to go to Deandra's for breakfast, but got to the location and it was nonexistent. So, we went to Cortez Cafe, and are SO glad we did! Definitely a place for the locals! Mostly an elderly crowd, so my husband and I stuck out like a sore thumb. No worries though! Food was excellent! Pancake was HUGE! Most of all, service was great (which we have had trouble finding the entire trip)! Will definitely go back if I ever visit here again!

This is one of our favorite spots for breakfast. It's probably good for lunch, too, be we ALWAYS get breakfast here! We find their hash browns to be among the best in the area when made nice and buttery and fried brown and crispy. Biscuits and gravy is good, but their eggs and bacon make it a nice place, too.

Came here for breakfast. Diner food served up with a smile. Great service and simple food. The hashbrowns were crispy and greasy. Don't expect gourmet, this is diner food and it's delicious. Lots of locals eating.
