Capogna's Dugout, a place to go where little leaguers, high schoolers, and locals can come out and chill, be kids, hang out, and talk about various things from getting hit by a baseball to scoring the winning touchdown. The food is average, wings, pizza, burgers, etc but this is not what makes this place cool. You have to love a family owned restaurant who has been around for a loooong time and supports the community. With that being said, I am a fan of the pizza burger, yes the pizza burger. A nicely grilled chunk of meat with marinara sauce, cheese and pepperoni. Come check it out and support this piece of old Clearwater.

Decent pizza served in a fun sports-tchotchke-filled atmosphere. PROS: - Friendly attentive waitstaff - Fun decor, with sports memorabilia of all kinds - Boneless wings were tasty - The TV's did not dominate the restaurant and were an appropriate volume for a non-game time (one of my pet peeves and why I generally avoid sports bars) CONS: - Dirty, outdated menus; they stapled a note to the FRONT of the menu stating that they had to raise prices. Confusing and kinda cheap. C'mon, guys, laminated menus aren't THAT expensive - Prices are pretty high for the quality - Canned mushrooms on the pizza - Pizza was somewhat doughy

The good: Good food at great prices. Tuesday trivia night is by far the best night. If you're into trivia, I highly recommend it. And their pizza is faaaantastic, and I know my pizza. The bad: Not very roomy, it can get a bit loud and crowded. The ugly: Avoid the bar/bartenders. Trust me. Just get a table and ask for Big John.

I've been to Capogna's many times over the years. It's a fun, Italian restaurant and sports bar. The pizza is great, NY style, and it's a perfect place for groups, families, and sports teams. The kids will love it too, with all the old sports memorabilia on the walls. Capogna's has been around a very long time and family owned. They have a wide selection of pizza, salads, wings, sandwiches, and Italian dishes. During Rays games, all domestic drafts are $1. Cool! Food: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Atmosphere: 5 stars (fun, sports theme) Cleanliness/Attractiveness: 3 stars Beer selection: 3 stars Not a place for fine fining, but still a fun place with good food.

We always come here when in the Clearwater area. The meatball sub is #1. Fresh hoagie roll, homemade meatballs & sauce and marinated green peppers! The best!

This place holds a place in my heart forever. It has comforted me through some tough times. I wanted to start having happy memories there so I went with Justin recently. He has heard me talk so much about it. Also, I went through a phase, when we first started dating, of getting their spaghetti with meat sauce to go. I would eat a part of it, and leave the rest for him in the fridge so he could eat it when he got off of work. We both enjoyed it so much! So this was actually my first time dining in, and his first time walking into the place. The sports memorabilia, tablecloths and red booths feel right at home. He said it reminded him of the pizza place he used to work at back in Missouri. We loved our pizza! And the salad was great as well. Just really on fleek. Flavor, texture and everything. My only stipulation...is that somehow my water turned out to be an unsweetened tea. But hey, why not? And then, when Justin tried to get his diet Coke refilled, he was asked, "Unsweet?" To which he responded, "Diet". Oops. But not a deal breaker. Just a sign of a busy night at a neighborhood favorite. Oh, we will be back!

One of my favorites. Great Happy Hour - cold beer, frosted mugs. The servers have all been there a long time and know how to provide excellent customer service. Trivia Tuesdays are popular and can be difficult to find a seat. Nightly specials for food. If you like salads, you must try the Barside Salad - it's a meal and quite tasty.

I come here all the time with my family! Wait staff is fantastic, especially Bob. Their pizza and wings are by far the best in town. If you're looking for Italian Pub food, this is the place for you!

I have been going here since my childhood. I went last night to get take out for my grandma. My car broke down and they were kind to me. Another patron went to get me jumper cables, then I need the car across from me to help and they went to each guest and found out who's car it was. That patron helped me too. That level of kindness goes a long way when you are stranded in the rain trying to bring your elderly grandma food. Other than that the food is delicious! They give you tons of it at a great price and its delectable, indulgent italian food!!! Their Alfredo has always been my favorite. One meal will last me days! My grandmother loves the spaghetti! It's all so good especially the pizza! A great place for families too!

Joined friends here for dinner on a Saturday night. There was agood sized crowd but not wcrazy. Our party was large and kept increasing in number. Waitress handled that fairly well. Till her no time to get my order. Took forever to get my drink which I had to ask for twice. Had the stromboli which was hot, fresh, and very good. Wait staff was over-taxed but did ok. I would have given more stars for better service.

We've been coming to this Clearwater mainstay for years. It's a sports bar and family Italian restaurant hybrid divided into two large spaces. The walls are festooned with sports memorabilia representative of the owner's friends, family and (of course) Tampa Bay sport teams. The interior needs a major update from the booths, tables, chairs, bathrooms, etc. To accommodate larger families, its cleaver how the center booths can have the partition removed. As funny as it may seem, the main reason that I love Capogna's is their meatballs. The meatball subs are modestly priced, huge, delicious sandwiches. The bread is always fresh. Consequently, the spaghetti and meatballs is good, too. They have plenty of lunchtime and early bird specials that are very reasonably priced. The wait staff and owner are always friendly and talkative. If you haven't already, you need to experience this Gulf to Bay landmark.

Every year for 12 years we go to Clearwater for Spring Training. And EVERY year we look forward to Capogna's. The friendliest bartenders and the BEST pizza!!! It has never disappointed. The only disappointment is that we can only go one week out of the entire year!

Best wings I've had in a long time. Came here months ago and the wings were enormous but the hot wasn't hot by any means. Too sweet and it was gross. Decided to give it another try just based off size and the wings are amazing. Great flavor with a little kick (hot.) They give you all dummies too. Ranch dressing very tasty as well. pizza is overpriced...rather buy elsewhere. But I'll definitely come back for the wings.

Absolutely fantastic! We ordered the $3.99 Spaghetti special, side of meatballs and hot wings...was pleasantly surprised with the Italian food. The meatballs and sauce were fabulous! Everything we ordered was delicious. We will definitely be back again!

35 years I've been coming here while visiting home and it's still awesome! Best pizza ever. Friendly staff. Awesome sports memorabilia covering the walls. Capogna's was great when I first started going there in 9th grade and it's still great!

More of a bar atmosphere than restaurant/family/dining in my opinion. I came here for lunch one day with a friend. The pizza is ok, nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is very casual, and the prices were reasonable. I would stop by in the future for drinks and maybe some appetizers. Food: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Service: 4 Price: 3 Overall: 3.25

Visit time/day: weekday dinner Atmosphere: casual, neighborhood, family oriented, Italian, baseball themed Capogna's Dugout reminds me of restaurants I used to go to in the 1970's with my parents when I was a kid. It's a neighborhood restaurant where the staff is really friendly (you feel like you 'know them' after the first visit and they remember you on your 2nd visit), the atmosphere is casual and unassuming, and they serve decent unpretentious food (spaghetti, pizza, hamburgers, hoagies, etc.). There's always a diverse crowd there - seniors, families with kids, construction guys, hipsters, big groups of the 40-50 year age demographic having drinks. I have visited about 5 times now, always on Tuesday evenings for Trivia Night. This is a hot spot for Tuesday trivia - same regulars every week, huge groups, and very competitive. And they have food and drink specials specifically for guests playing trivia (1/2 off appetizers, $4 off large pizzas, beer specials, etc.). I've tried several different items on their menu - hamburgers, pizza, cheese steak hoagies, chicken parmesan hoagies, meatball hoagies, fries, fried mushrooms, bread sticks, etc. Everything is solid - not breaking any culinary boundaries, just good food. I will say their meat sauce seems exceptional. I've had it with appetizers and it is old school delicious, however I'm never in the mood for spaghetti when we're there. I'm looking forward to that night when I am in the mood for pasta! I recommend Capogna's Dugout. It's perfect for those nights where you want a comforting family owned neighborhood restaurant experience.

We've been coming here once a month after a MeetUp to unwind for a few years now. It used to be a great experience, but for several months now the staff continually rushes us to get out so they can go home early. There is very little customer service and the experience is less than desirable. They turn off lights, TV's etc. even before they announce "last call". Even if we order a "last call" drink...they don't want to allow time for us to finish them. Tonight an employee even offered a "to go" drink container so they could wash the glasses...which is illegal! Really! We plan on changing venues from now on to businesses that value their customers and encourage people to stay and enjoy themselves. By By Capogna's.

This makes me feel old, but I have been eating at Capognas since it opened in 1973. Some of the memorabilia on the walls hasn't changed since 1973 -- so it's a very classic sports bar atmosphere. There are lots of TVs and you can always find a game on. Capognas is a great local sports bar with great bar food. Choices include pizza, pasta, burgers, wings and sandwiches. Everything is pretty good, but I really enjoy some of the italian dishes. I eat there about once a week on average. My only complaint is that the kitchen can be very slow--so be careful if you are in a hurry.

The one and only USF bar in Pinellas. At least that I know of as a real USF place. I like the pizza. It's different that the usual NY style. When looking at the front of the building, the right side is the sports bar area, the left side is more a traditional restaurant area. Go Bulls.

Great place for Pizza and beer. The Copgna family are the best. A clearwater landmark. The place has been here forever and it is still a great place to go for a casual dinner.

I wanted to re-write my review. Okay so maybe I gave them WAY too much credit in my past review, I was trying to be positive. So let's drop the front and get real Their pizza is nothing to rave about. It's perfect for my lunch break, it's alright as FOOD, but as far as being "good pizza"- that's a stretch. First of all their pizza is wayy too cheesey, with too little sauce. The cheese they use isn't fresh, it's packaged shredded, which is fine in Mexican food, something you eat more as a guilty pleasure, but pizza shouldn't have a guilty feeling. Their sauce tastes canned. It's too sweet and heavily spiced. A pizza should have a fresh tomato taste, accompanied by fresh mozzarella. Their pizza is too heavy, and the use of less than quality ingredients is evident. I am passionate about my pizza, and didn't want to invalidate my other pizza reviews by giving Capogna's a good one.(as I had before) Also, (just a note) they don't have pizza by the slice once they start serving dinner.

I grew up in the area and yes, Capogna's is a local institution and yes they do a lot for the community. The deal is this, the pizza is uninspired and about as bland as you can get. I seriously couldn't tell if I was eating paper or a pizza. Canned mushrooms...come on, mushrooms aren't that expensive. Good place to go if you are looking to take the family to some local pizza joint and have a relaxing time. It's not the worst place but I remembered why I haven't ate there in years.

The cheese and sauce were good. The rest -- crust and toppings -- were a bit sad and forlorn. There were enough toppings, but they were overbaked (veggies soggy). The crust was just "ok". Tasted like the stuff I make at home from a Pop-N'-Fresh can. And a bit hard to cut through with a knife. I thought our waitress was polite and seemed on the ball, though she forgot one small item. Good stuff if you're out to drink beers with your pals, but a little too pricey considering it's "just ok". Since there are 1,000 pizza joints in Clearwater, I recommend trying another.

  • Rebecca V.

Pizza was good. I had read reviews and expected a good pizza, they delivered exactly that! Not over the top delicious, but good! Service that is a different story! The service is exactly why the lower rating! Took 20 minutes to get the waitress long enough to place our order, then it came out another 30 minutes later barely hot... We did get a waitress change and the older lady who ended up helping us was good. Sadly the first one ruined the experience and we won't be going back!

Having lived in Clearwater for over 30 years I have been here many times. After eating here tonight I know now why it's been years between my last visit. Tables were all sitting dirty so in order to " seat yourself " you had to sit at a dirty table. It wasn't that busy so to me this was unacceptable. Whole place looks like it needs a deep cleaning. Pizza is average at best. Garlic bread is below average if that's even possible. Prices are ridiculous. Large pizza is almost $20 and it's not even a good pizza. Sorry Capognas - the nostalgia is gone for me. Wish you luck.

  • Maegan G.

Meh. Pizza was not that great. Bland, very, very, hard crust. Obviously it's a sports bar, lots of TVs, pretty loud and I'm sure it gets much louder when there's a decent game on. Waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked.

Great place. Good food. Been coming here for 20 years! Kid friendly. Large portions. Friendly staff. spaghetti is still my favorite. Pizza is great too. Used to bring the kids here after football games. Now the kids are adults and we still come here. I've never been disappointed when I come here.

If you grew up in Clearwater then you likely already know about Capognas. The gathering place since the early 70's for good Italian eats, it seems to be the place you end up after the kids baseball or soccer game. Now i'm not a huge fan of Italian food and secretly admit to a love of franchised pizza ( I know, I'm sorry) but good prices, good food and cheap beer can keep me interested. We had a large group, but called ahead to give fair warning, and the waitstaff had already prepared a table for 20 and two dedicated servers. The food did not disappoint, and with $1 drafts until 7 and then 2 for 1 drafts after that, everyone was pleased. Granted they didn't have my coveted New Castle or Stella, I can certainly "suffer" with a $1 Budweiser (not a bud light!)

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
