Got here about 30 minutes ago ordered water and cheese dip... got that practically throwm on table and then was ignored for the nrxt 20 min while waitress cleaned the recently emptied tables all around us. Finally a waiter asked if we had ordered yet... Most reviews claimed good service... I didnt see that here. Waiting to see how food is.

I ordered take out 3 chicken tacos with side of rice and beans for $9. They gave me beef tacos that tasted like the taco mix you buy from the store. Not that good. Edible. Then again Im from San Francisco where the taco trucks know what Carnitas is. I wont go back.

We eaten here a couple of times and the food has always been very fresh very hot and delicious. they took our drink orders and brought us a basket of the freshest chips and homemade salsa I've ever had and within five minutes our food was hot and sitting in front of us ready for us to enjoy. The quality and flavor of the food reminds me of my favorite restaurant that is now gone in Tampa Tia'S Mexican restaurant. I'm glad we have this fine restaurant in our town. I will also say the prices are very good I had a three item combo platter that had a chile rellenos a wonderful taco and an enchilada with rice and beans for $9.25. and I am FULL. In fact I could not finish everything. So if you're out looking for Mexican food give them a try they are fantastic.

We enjoyed this spot as we were in town visiting family. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. The pork was absolutely on point. We will be back next time we are in town!

This place has pretty good reviews which lead my son and I to try it at lunchtime during a weekday. I ordered the burritos and ended up with two meat filled tortillas covered in sauce. Very boring and not what I had expected. The chips and salsa they offered was also just okay. Cute place, but they need to spice their food up a bit.

The other night, Arturo prepared us yummy fish tacos. A unique twist with both hard corn taco inside a soft flour tortilla. Add melty cheese in between. The chipotle sauce completed the dish. Fresh salsa, good chips. Worth the trip from our house.

Nice small independent Mexican restaurant., located right behind the movie theatre on Cortez. The wait staff was really friendly, the food was good, hot and served in a decent amount of time. I would have liked to see more options on the menu, but they did have all the basics. The salsa was great, tasted like it was just made. We will be going back. Hubby and I ate there for just under $20 plus tip.

the grilled chicken chimichangas were so great! we also got some beef fajitas and it had chunks of pineapple in it--we loved it! the service was good and we enjoyed our experience. next time, i think my husband and i want to try splitting an appetizer, meal and dessert (we were so stuffed we didn't get to try the dessert this time).

Pueblo Viejo is a hidden gem with fantastic, authentic Mexican food. This place is small, with 12 or so booths and four tables. The owner greeted us seconds after we entered and told us to sit anywhere. I grew up in Texas, and my husband and I just relocated to the area from California so we know good Mexican food. Before ordering, we chatted for quite some time with the owner about Mexican food, recipes and preparation techniques, and he definitely knew his stuff. He answered a few questions about the menu while another server brought out chips and FRESH salsa that had great flavor and just the right amount of heat. The menu had a nice selection of various combinations of the basics including chile rellenos, enchiladas with multiple fillings, some seafood items and some standard beef dishes. They also listed carnitas as a house special. I ended up ordering a combo with taco, enchilada, tamale, chili con carne, rice and beans so that I could get a broad sample of tastes and quality. Hubby ordered the Carne a la Mexicana which is chunks of steak slow simmered with green bell peppers and onions. The owner let us know that all of their food is prepared fresh daily and once they are out of something, it's out period for the day. I was in luck that they still had tamales and was given the option of having my chile con carne served on top of the tamale which I chose to do. Our food came out fairly quickly, and we quickly determined that it was quite good. My combo came with a cheese enchilada which came filled with oozy, melty queso anejo, and was topped with a tasty red sauce and more queso anejo grated on top. The tamale had nicely flavored masa and the pork filling was well seasoned, but not too spicy. It was topped with a flavorful and nicely spiced chili con carne with small chunks of beef and plenty of heat without being overly hot. The taco was filled with seasoned ground beef topped with fresh shredded lettuce and queso anejo and was only so-so. The owner shared with us that he had tried filling tacos with shredded beef, but too many people complained so he went to the ground beef filling. The rice and beans were average and had decent flavor, but didn't stand out as anything special. Hubby's beef entree was quite tasty as well, with large, tender, flavorful chunks of beef served with fresh pico di gallo, fresh and very tasty guacamole, shredded lettuce, rice, beans and corn tortillas. There was so much food on the plate that he ate his fill and had plenty to take home. The price for all of this fantasticly flavorful and well seasoned food was quite reasonable. In fact, most entrees were priced fairly low. Even though we didn't order any cocktails, they were on the menu and were low priced as well. All in all, we were quite pleased with Pueblo Viejo's food and service. The owner was friendly and knew his stuff. The food was well seasoned with just enough heat that we were satisfied without feeling it was overkill. We will definitely be returning and recommend it to anyone looking for tasty, authentic Mexican food.

This unassuming little Mexican restaurant is one of my favorite places in town, I have had 4 or 5 different meals and all are fantastic. I normally go between the Enchilada El Pueblo Viejo (green chili) and the mixed fajita. The salsa is addictive (especially if you get some of the hot one to mix in with it as well). Cannot recommend highly enough and THE PRICES ARE FANTASTIC!!!

Went in for lunch and I ordered a taco salad with shredded chicken. The meat was not seasoned, a bit dry or even decently warmed well. There was a weird aftertaste from the guacamole. I tried also the beef quesdillas from another plate and it was greasy, tasteless and sad. The tortilla was soggy cold and the cheese is not the rich creamy flavor you would expect to find at a Mexican restaurant . Our server only came by for one drink refill and never returned with the chips we requested. The decor is dark and the store front was hard to tell if they even were open. I wouldn't go back even if it was free, which is sad cause I like to support independent restaurants. A lot of changes are needed.

Great food. Good amount for the price. Clean dining area. Well decorated. Staff is friendly and attentive. Great place for a date. I had the carne asada and my wife had a ground beef quesadilla. Everything was fresh. We had a great lunch and recommend our friends and family to dine there.

Hands down the worst Mexican food I have ever had. I am pretty sure my burrito had alpo dog food as the meat. It is cheap, but there is very good reason for it. Stay away!

I have been going to this restaurant for years and they never disappoint! The service and staff is as great at the food. I love the complementary chips and salsa! Everything I've tried has been great. If you're looking for something new ask for the lava bowl. Its delicious and you'll definitely have left overs.

Good service and affordable. Nothing creative, pretty typical flavors and dishes. Quality was good, everything was fresh. Had standard beef tacos, was just okay. Service was good, quick but not hovering. Ambiance isn't great, no bar to sit at, small but pretty clean.

Well my last review was in 2011. I understand restaurant has changed hands and I have not been back since. So please realize after 5 yrs. this food and service may have had a not-so-good change at least looking at pictures and reading current reviews. Sorry...No pictures look like the entrees I had experienced. My rating is unworthy because I have not been back in years. I do know same original owners are no longer there.

Small venue, great atmosphere and excellent Mexican food. The plaza outside is a little off putting but you'll forget all about it once you get inside. Try a Pueblo Platter, I recommend option K.

Food is excellent as always. What impressed me more was the service. I was eating with my parents and I wanted to bring back a dish to my wife. Being that I've only been there twice already (1st time with my parents, second time with my wife), Just before I placed the order, the tall blonde waitress asked if I was ready to order the Platter A to my wife, since that's what she had ordered the last time we were in. I was impressed! Also impressive was the handmade guacamole and hot sauce (it's very hot). Guarantee I will be coming back again.

The best salsa within a 2 hour radius. Authentic. Reasonably priced. Service is mediocre. Small mom and pop operation, owner is hands on. Definately, a value add to Brooksville. Try #35 extra spicy, you won't be disappointed.

Avid Yelpers always do their due diligence when they visit new cities and search for the 4 and 5 star reviews. Pueblo Viejo upheld the collective intelligence of the Yelp crowdsource model yet again. Had an excellent meal with great service without the annoying "how's everything going" every 5 minutes. Will definitely return next time I'm in town (and my dining companion was a huge fan of Mexican food so I'm sure that won't be a problem!)

This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. I would recommend any item on the menu, but especially the pork tamales! :)

We went here yesterday for the first time. There were five tables with people and one waitress. I did not think the service was slow at all. We got their shrimp quesadillas, chicken tacos, and chips/salsa. The salsa was absolutely delicious. This was definitely some of the best salsa we have ever had. The quesadillas were cooked perfectly. The cheese, vegetables and shrimp all tasted very fresh. My boyfriend got the tacos and he said that they were really good. He got the homemade hot sauce to use and he enjoyed that as well. We will definitely be going back. Just a note though, they will be closed from Dec 24 through about the first week of January. They are moving from right next to the Beacon to the other side of the plaza!

Super clean and very attentive staff. The ceviche shrimp were great but next time I'll have them put the tostadas on the dude. They get soggy. Guacamole was not to my taste.

Went here on the advice of other reviewers. It's possible after their reopening the quality of food and service may have gone downhill. I'm giving it 3 stars for the salsa and guacamole. However, if I were rating things separately, I would give the food quality a 2. I would give the service a 2. The value I would rate a 1. The taco salad is the size of a child's fist. The chimichanga could have fit inside my wallet. Oh! And my cost for those 2 things plus 2 teas....a whopping 25 bucks! Not sure how or why this restaurant has one $ symbol. We will not be back.

Very good authentic Mexican restaurant that I did not expect to find in Brooksville. It's a cozy little establishment located inside the shopping center. I say this only because my GPS took me to Burger King at first.. Chips and salsa were great, good selection of bottled beer, and my entree was very good. Service was spot on! Would most definitely come back!

Fantastic traditional Mexican food. Fresh, full flavored and great staff. Highly recommended; several of our party eat traditional mexican and this met and exceeded expectations.

This place is good, considering where it is located (there aren't many decent Mexican restaurants in this area). The food is on par with your average Mexican restaurant, and the service is ok.

  • Ari B.

Restaurant has been closed for several months now; no reason given. Padlock on door at new location. It's a shame, they had good food and some nice people seem to have lost their jobs.

Sit down and almost immediately a basket of fresh, warm chips and a bowl of salsa are put in front of you. The salsa is great and they refill both chips and salsa upon request. No charge for these. Food dishes are great aand portions are generous. Service is very fast, and cost is very reasonable. When i want Mexican food, this is where I will go.

The atmosphere of this place was amazing, very rustic and authentic. The service was very fast. However the food was average and very heavy on the stomach. The portions are huge! It would be better for dinner than lunch. I liked this restaurant and its vibe much more than I liked the actual food.

Loud, screaming kids were allowed to run amok because "they come here all the time." I wish I were kidding. Food-wise, it was passable, but uninspired. The guacamole salad was the star of the show, but that's not saying much. The food tasted awfully stale, but lots of cheese and salsa covered that up. It was crypt-quiet in the restaurant after the screaming kid left ... although that could have just been because I was deaf by that point. Incidentally, the drinks (even the water) are HUGE .. which is good, because they're not attentive at all about refills. The waiter and waitress working spent more time embracing and frolicking in plain view of everyone than they did serving customers. We even had to go GET our check -- sigh.

Being from south Texas originally and having lived in Chula Vista, CA several years of my life, I am very fond of good Mexican food. Most Mexican food here in the U.S.is pretty much the same. But this place is a cut above the rest. It was authentic, generous, and very well prepared. But you GOTTA try the guacamole!! It is, without a doubt, the best I have ever had in a U.S. restaurant. Lots of tomato and avocado chunks, and very fresh! We will be frequenting here often, believe me.

I stopped by for lunch with my mom during a parental visit / vacation. Tucked into a strip mall I was prepared to poo poo it as only a big city girl can. Turns out, I was wrong, wrong, wrong. First, the salsa is amazing. Tangy and spicy and delicious. The chips were fresh and not oily. In addition to the daily specials, the menu almost overwhelmed me with options. Luckily, the manager / owner steeped in to show us their lunch specials. My mom went with the fish tacos (tilapia). She, being my mom, had to let them know I was a vegan when I asked for vegetarian options. The owner took the menu from my hand and said it would take care of it. A little bit later out came the best looking veggie fajitas I've ever seen. Mushrooms, spinach, zucchini, onions, peppers. All with grill marks and cooked yet still crisp. And, NOT DRY. I didn't want or need any sour cream or cheese to get it down. I did add more of the fantastic salsa since I couldn't seem to stop eating it. My mom's tilapia was served with her choice of tortilla (corn, soft corn, flour). Three nice filet pieces came out with the pre-made taco. I asked for some salsa to go. They warned me that it's made fresh to order and might not hold up more than a day or two. So, I'll be back tomorrow before heading out of town to take an 8 ounce container home with me. All told our tab was less than $20 for two. Next time I need to go without my non-drinking parents. I was dying for their $4 margarita!

Carnitas are a hidden treat on the menu. Skip the tacos and try something new. Chili relleno was very good. I was surprised by the reddish tint to the meat when I cut in to it, but was reassured by the owner who informed that the meat is fully cooked before assembly and turned that color from the pepper. They are three stars for the food, plus one for the owner making the rounds and taking 15 minutes to explain just how they cooked the carnitas and the chili relleno. Mucho bueno!

Went there for lunch. I thought it would be good, but was disappointed. Salsa was great and tasted home made, but the chips were stale and old. Not a good pair. I ordered a taco and enchilada, which came with a side of beans and rice. the taco I could not finish as the shell was old and had that really bitter, old oil taste to it. I could not finish. Enchilda was so so and I did not finish. My husband ordered a veggie quesadilla and that was good. It was warm and crispy considering it was full of moist vegetables. Overall, service good, food not that great.

I've been to this place many times. My wife and I love it. My friends love the place. The food is great. The service is good too. The owner is passionate about his cooking and it reflects in everything they make. From the fresh made daily salsa to the desert. Never had anything I didn't like. My recommendation is go for the authentic dishes. Try something new you won't be disappointed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
