I was in town for business and stopped in this place. It has a very unique feel eating lunch in and antique shop! Had great service and great food. Prices were very reasonable. I had the half of sandwich and soup, the ham and Swiss sandwich on the croissant with the Swiss baked potato soup. No complaints everything was delicious and very fast for being on lunch break. I will definitely be returning.

My elderly mother and I went to Mallie Kylas today. They told us it would be a five minute wait. We told them that we couldn't stand for that period and would wait outside. She did not acknowledge what I said except to say it's ONLY five minutes. Five minutes standing is something neither of us can do. There was no place to sit, and nothing was offered to us. No one came to get us outside to let us know that our table was ready. We left. Even getting from the car to a restaurant is hard for us. I have just gotten out of the hospital, and my mother is quite elderly. The ridiculous insensitivity to disability exhibited today at this cafe means that we will never return. We encourage anyone who cares about disability issues to boycott this restaurant.

I used to think they have great food. But after today, I don't think so. The chicken sandwich that i ordered was not what it used to be, it was bland, just OK, a chicken salad sandwich from Arby's is actually better. The soup was lukewarm and again, missing something - too bland, does not taste like cheese at all. Is not a place that I will go back to.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! MY GIRLS LOVE THIS PLACE, MY FRIENDS LOVE THIS PLACE! Ok, yes they are totally packed at lunch ALWAYS. If you go after the lunch rush, it is better! BUT check out the deserts, if you see one you want, tell your server to hold it for you! If you don't it will be gone! When they run out, that is it for the day! Hummingbird cake is to die for.... I love their cream of potato soup. It is the best I have had anywhere. The seafood bake is yummy. My hubby likes the open roast beef. Their quiche is huge! My girls love the tuna or chicken salad in a giant avocado. They have delicious sandwiches also! This is like an old time tea parlour. They have a wonderful little flower and gift shop. We sneak up here some days without the boys and have a girl's lunch, BUT, we HAVE to bring something home for the guys or they growl!!!!

So I've been hearing about this place for awhile now, and finally got a chance to try it. I love the flower shop, and i love the "oldies homey-feeling" I get sitting in the place. I had the Meridian club with the creamy potato soup, along with a chocolate chocolate cake for dessert. The soup was okay, it was kind of luke warm so I didn't enjoy it as much. The meridian club was delicious, and the chocolate chocolate cake was heaven. I ended up ordering that cake for my sister's birthday the following week. Overall, I enjoyed everything, except the 15 minutes wait that turned out to be a 30 minute wait. It was worth the wait though, but I'm calling in a reservation next time. Oh yes, the staff was really nice and friendly.

Love this place!! Perfect for a girls day lunch. Food is all very fresh and home cooked. Ads to the historical feel of Brooksville. It is an old house fixed up, with a neat little store attached to find those gifts for hard to shop for people. Don't miss out on there wonderful desserts, even if you have to take them home for later (which is what I normally do because I'm so full from the meal)

December 11th, 2014. Thursday for Lunch My neighbor asked me to go to Lunch with her. I was Delighted to see the Delicious Menu. All off the foods are fresh made Fresh, my Lunch ATC- Avocado, Chicken & Cheese sandwich. It was Light on the Mayo I ordered the Swiss Potato Soup, it was delicious, a cucumber Salad, & Peach Ice Tea. All of this was Delicious. After we are my friend asked if I would like to Split a piece of Delicious HUMMINGBIRD CAKE ( 4 layers). It was rich, delicious, and the Cream cheese icing topped it off so well. I highly recommend this Quaint cafè and it's beautiful handmade items in the store.

Well, I went to Mallie Kylas Cafe in downtown Brooksville for the first time last week and I have to thank you all for suggesting that I go. Great little place, everything a home town cafe should be. I know they are renowned for their potato soup (which was very good) but their mushroom soup was one of the best I can remember eating in a LOOOOONG time. Not creamy but more a rich and 'stocky' soup, if that makes sense? Sandwich was very good, tasty pasta salad. Didn't try the deserts but maybe next time.

I absolutely love this place! It's a little house made restaurant, flower shop, and gift store....amazing little find, when visiting! They serve everything homemade, I would recommend any cake! For lunch I have the Gobbler, Omg!!!!! So good that every time I have gone back I can't get anything else. Prices are a bit high but worth it.

Well, Mallie Kylas is this great little place in Brooksville, They also have a location in Dade City but I've never been to that location. Been going here for 5 or so years. Frankly it's a great place to have lunch. Very Southern feel, with a great Flower and gift shop for the girls. (Guys bring your plastic, cause your honey is gonna buy something on the way in or out) As other Yelper have noted, Get there around 11:30 if you don't want a wait. However wait at peak has never exceeded 15 minutes for me. I've had the salads, soups, and sandwiches over the years and found them all to be excellent, Roast beef Crunch is my favorite, with the Turkey being a close second. Everything is homemade, Potato salad is great, the bread appears to be baked on site. I hear that the Shrimp and Grits is the best anywhere around, I gotta get over there and try it. Fish bake on Fridays I've also heard is awesome. Now to the good stuff, Desert!! Damn good stuff they bake at this place. The Oatmeal cake is the bomb! Don't sound like much right? Try it. Awesome Cream cheese brownie, Pies, All slamming good. Staff is fantastic nice. The owner is at the door, and is very nice to her patrons. You can tell she cares about what she puts on your table. Great Southern charm at this place all the way around. Trust me you'll enjoy this place. Best lunch spot in Hernando.

Another trip across Florida and another stop at Mallie Kyla's Cafe and another great experience. Now a readers choice Southern Living Award. My soup was out of this world. Daily special potato soup made with red potatoes cooked and diced perfectly. Not mushy not too firm. Sandwich was a blend of avocado, turkey and sprouts. The homemade dressing on the salad was not this overpowering ranch or blue cheese out of a bottle. delicate flavors drizzled over fresh greens. Fresh and a culinary delight. My wife had the special Chicken and Dumplings. Just like Gama made it. Home cooking at its best. Creame Cheese brownies for desert and fresh brewed peach tea. Prefer their sun tea but what was served was perfectly brewed. Thanks for allowing us to dine on the porch and enjoy the wonderful day as well as the visit with Ethan Hensley who journeyed out of the kitchen to say hello and talk about his journeys to great concert venues across the country. It is worth routing your trip through Brooksville even if it adds an hour for a great lunch. malliekylas.com

One star for not charging me for a meal I could not eat. Another one - for reminding me the true wisdom: if you want to eat a good lunch, cook it at home & pack it in a cooler. :) A very noisy, extremely uncomfortable, tiny place with mediocre mysterious(!) foods that include only three choices - soups, salads and sandwiches. And tonnes of creamy pinkish dressing with any course. So that makes females 99.9% of the visitors. Men would definitely prefer burgers and real whole or sliced pieces of animal proteins which this joint doesn't serve. Beef, chicken and shrimp are either shredded or cut into small pieces and bathed in dressings or mayo. Oh, and have I noticed they serve instant coffee? I ordered "Chicken Salad Wrap and Soup". Oh, boy, was I ever surprised so much when I saw that salad inside of the wrap: mayo with shredded white meat of ... something. I could understand if it was tuna salad. But it had never occurred to me that a wrap with chicken could look like a baby food! Honestly, when there is a choice of a wrap in a restaurant's menu I always get a sliced whole chicken breast with sliced veges and lettuce inside of the wrap. I almost screamed in surprise! And I refused to touch that substance. So I placed an order for "Fajita Chicken Salad". Wow, again I felt awkward because the Fajita part was presented by a thick cover of some kind of highly fat and processed dry chips? (or whatever it is called that I've never tried) on top of the meal. I haven't recognized chicken by taste. Again probably because I've never had canned chicken before. :) Poor me, LOL. Luckily, I could recognize pieces of tomatoes and lettuce and could fish out two tablespoons of canned black beans. That was fun... My husband ordered "Roast Beef Crunch" that looked like pulled pork bathed in bbq sauce inside of small ciabatta bread. Again, the supposed beef was not sliced, it was pulled apart meat. Well, immediately after that meal he had a heart burn. And after that we left completely puzzled with only one question: why that place was packed?! ...
