La Septima Cafe Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We couldn't visit Tampa without stopping in at our all-time favorite Spanish restaurant, La Septima, surprised to find that they'd moved a few blocks down the road. We started with the Yuca Fries. Yuca is starchy, much like a potato. Cooked yuca tends to be a bit mushy, but fried yuca is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and La Septima sprinkles theirs with cheese. I chose the Pescado a la Rusa, whitefish filets, fried and topped with a Russian-style sauce (butter, parsley and hard-boiled eggs), complemented with yellow rice and black beans. The fish was tender and flaky, and paired perfectly with the sauce. Dora here. My fave is the Palomilla steak. I'm not sure which kind of beef they use, but it's pounded thin then breaded and fried, and topped with grilled onions. Tender and yum! I used to make black beans and yellow rice occasionally at home, but I never could replicate the exact flavor profile that jazzes up my taste buds like theirs. :) I would rate this restaurant 4 forks out of 5 forks for a family friendly restaurant serving great food. Looking at the menu online, I thought this was a fancier restaurant than it actual was. It turned out to be casual dining with some outdoor seating available. Devil Crab $6 - This was no Michelle Faedo's On the Go Food Truck devil crab, which in retrospect is a hard act to follow. It was just ok, the flavors weren't there for me. Conch Fritters $5 - I never had these before and probably won't again since they just tasted like ordinary fried dough. Walk Around La Septima $16 - A sampling of house favorites: Ropa Vieja, Picadillo and Lechon Asado served with black beans and yellow rice. A good dish to share since it's plenty big and you can try a variety of meats. The menu does say there's an extra charge of $3 for shared entrée, though. Mojito $3 during happy hour Monday-Saturday 3pm-7pm. It was pretty good. Red Velvet Cake $5 - The cake and icing were good.

Just a short review, because this was a quick visit -- but La Septima is very much recommended. Would eagerly return. Three of us visited the week of March 16, 2015, while at a weeklong workshop in Seffner, FL (near Tampa). We generally ate dinner at the workshop location or nearby. But we decided to venture a bit farther afield one evening. La Septima's ocation is at the end of a strip center, but that allows them to have a bit of outdoor seating to the side of the restaurant. Also makes parking simple and the address easy to find, if you are from out-of-town, as we were. It was a pleasant night when we visited, so we sat outside and enjoyed it. Bottom line: La Septima Café was a great find. From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. Don't know if it is owned or operated by a family, but the host(ess), the woman who appeared to be managing that evening, and our server all treated us like we were regulars. Our server was wonderful. She recommended dishes from the menu because we were too mentally wiped-out to think. Nothing was disappointing. Wish we remembered more, had making notes of staff names, etc. This review is very unlike others of mine. But La Septima treated us so well and the food, was so good, we couldn't NOT post a review.

Hit this on our last lunch stop before leaving Florida and it was really good. Great staff, lobster tacos delish and I insist on the fried yuca! We will make it a point to visit next time we are in the area.

The worst Cuban food I've ever had! The cook has no clue what Cuban food taste like. I was disappointed with the mojito, the pork was not fresh and it tasted like it was warmed up in the microwave. Not even the bread was good. The Morongo was overly cooked, they don't know what Morongo really is.vthis place was terrible!

I love love love Cuban food. I have eaten Cuban food all across the state of Florida and La Septima is easily my favorite. When I have out-of-state visitors, they always ask to go here. RJ and the staff always provide great service. They have a secret yellow rice family recipe and the portions are generous. The butter with diced olives is my favorite, but my son loves these Cuban sandwiches. Check it out!

Not the best Cuban pork I've ever had but everything else was very good. The devil crab appetizer was unique and different. Not very expensive and the service was good.

#168 Craving Spanish/Cuban food we tried LaSeptima. We are always passing it so we thought we'd give it a try. Seated immediately, our server Christine, got our drinks and took our orders. I ordered the combo plate, cleverly called "walk around LaSeptima". It had Ropa Vieja, Mojo pork and piccadillo along with enough rice and beans to feed a third world country. Wife got the piccadillo. I didn't care for the piccadillo because it was full of green olives, not my thing. The best on the plate was the Ropa and the rice was very flavorful. LaSeptima will do if we want to stay close to home but to get the real deal we'll still go down to West Tampa.

A tad over-priced but not ridiculously so. Food is good with substantial portions, and the specials are usually interesting. Unfortunately sometimes the service is often off a bit. Again, not horribly so, but a bit slow and subpar. Food also tends to come out a bit slow. Still, worth the drive from Tampa once in a while.

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! Every time I'm in Florida visiting my family we always come here for the best Cuban food. The staff is always smiling, happy, and ready to provide the best service. For anyone new I'd recommend the Cuban sandwich or the chicken and rice dish and definitely eat some of the delicious bread with olive butter. While you eat enjoy the amazing historical family photos they have up on the walls. This is my favorite restaurant in the whole state of Florida!

Can't go to Tampa area with out stopping here one of my favorite Cuban restaurants. Love the Walk around La Septiam, which give you a great taste of there best dishes.

The food was bland, service was slow, and the menu was limited. Not to mention there was no kids menu.

  • Tiffani L.

A little over priced for shredded beef & rice. Food was good, but $3 for an order of Cuban bread? LOL you can an entire loaf for that.

My 89 year old mother wanted to have a birthday lunch for several of us and we made reservations for 8. She had been there on. Number of occasions while living in Brandon. This was my first and last. First of all the service was terrible. The owner's said it was because our waitress was new. This is no excuse as I told them. It was a management problem. Next the food quality was very mediocre and dry. I had the opportunity to meet the owner upon arriving and then had the chance to tell her it was terrible experience and should be an embarrassment. She apologized but did nothing else to recover. No refund, no discount. What an awful experience.

La Septima Café is a taste of yesteryear for all Tampa Natives. Black Beans made the way it was intended (just like Mercedes Cafeteria). Lechon Asado (Roast Pork) that would be envy of any culinary school. Chef Herrick is on the job, and doing it very well. The desert selection is amazing. Natilla, the way Abuela used to make it. A Guava cheesecake that you must leave room for. And if you get there soon, the seasonal Peppermint Patty cheesecake will make you want to 'slap your Tia!' The staff is courteous, attentive and efficient. Owners are on site, and can often be seen checking on their diners. The are very attentive to each detail. This little slice of Ybor City in Brandon is about to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. We say Salud and Happy Days to La Septima Café - here's to another 20 great years ahead! Thank you for keeping our traditional meals available to remember who we are and where we came from.

This place is dark and dirty, I guess dark is OK, but the floor (carpet - bad idea for restaurants) is absolutely gross. Both people I talked to for take-out were smiling and helpful. I ordered arroz con pollo, to see how well they did with this popular dish. I got a take-out box full of yellow (barely seasoned) rice with a chicken leg on top (I was expecting nice boneless pieces that had been sitting in sauce, could be me though - I'm a white guy). Not many choices for sides, I got the platanos since I didn't want peas, and they actually weren't bad. I wanted to love this place, it's right down the street!

  • H M.

I absolutely love La Septima! The food is delicious. Today I ordered take out, I got the rope vieja dinner with yuca and rice and beans. I also got a side salad with vinegarette dressing (so good) and a devil crab. Everything was perfect! The only downfall is the price depending on what you get can be pretty high from what they use to be. But besides that the food is top notch! I definitely recommend it to anybody who likes Cuban cuisine!

Terrific food! Pork Havana is what we enjoyed today, on our first visit. The atmosphere and service was warm and friendly, and it even has a full bar! The lunch price of $7.95 for some of their entrees made this place very affordable for lunch.

Nice place. Kinda classy with down to earth bar keeps. Great food. Plenty of parking.

La Septima Café is a nice restaurant at he corner of Lumsden and Kings in Brandon. I will mention the staff first. They were awesome. From the pleasant greeting from the hostess at the door to the friendly and good service of our waitress, I was very happy with the service. The food was good, not great. Portions were very generous, especially the rice,, holy smokes, who can eat that much rice? Flavor was good, but I felt all the meat tasted the same. Perhaps the seasonings. I was not blown away or at all disappointed with this restaurant. Will definitely try again!

    (3)
  • Michelle H.

The food is great, the Cuban sandwich is just wonderful. I love their garbanzo soup, yuca and black beans and rice too. The space is new for them from the old location on Kings, however, even after a couple of years here, the building is still dated. The carpets really need to be pulled and replaced. It is dark inside and seems like it could use a good cleaning. I hope you will try the restaurant in spite of the few things that need to be done, because the food really is good and economical.

This was my first time at this restaurant, however, we went with friends who had visited multiple times and had a good experience until this visit. 3 of the 6 dishes were disappointing. When our waitress said a manager would visit our table to discuss our problem with the dishes, you would think the manager would actually be interested in the situation, but she wasnt. She had absolutely nothing to say but "sorry" and walked away. They did absolutely nothing to compensate us for the bad experience and bad food. This was the first and last time we eat there and you can be sure our friends will not return and we will not recommend them to anyone.

  • Jeffery A.

Greeter was gracious and quickly sat us at a tiny table. Server took a few minutes to get to is but considering there's an 8 top next to us her attention was definitely taken. Our server Jenna was superb, knowledgeable and great with recommendations. I had the fish and with had a beef plate. Both entrees shined, but the hero of the meal was the quesadilla!! It was sweet, salty, meaty and cheesy. The fried plantains and the black beans and rice where excellent additions to the main dishes. Hats off to the bartender for the handmade monitor and my wife raved about the red and white sangrias were excellent. Greatest mix of food and service, returning soon to try other recommendations!!

Very nice place, it has a very relaxing theme. Good food and for the price they give you big portions. I recommend the fried cheese yuca.

    make the drive to Ybor...

    (1)
  • John B.

La Septima is in the top three Cuban restaurants in Tampa, definitely. Ybor city has good options, but nobody wants to live in Ybor, so this spot in Brandon is essential. The Cuban sandwich is as you would expect a Cuban sandwich to be...get it pressed, duh. The seventh Avenue salad is something that should be spoken to. It has ham, salami, banana peppers, olives, and amazing dressings that they make in-house to match (and way more stuff). I have gotten this to go on my way home and it's the best salad I've ever had. Hands down. They are ultrafast for to go orders, and I know because I work nearby and see them a couple times every month. they do a good job of employing capable staff members, so the service is terrific when you eat there as well. It's never been to raucous inside, and is a comfortable setting in a large dining area, all tables. You can't ask for more from a food establishment in Florida. Across-the-board successes in flavor, innovation, and service.

    Great cubans and deviled crabs.

  • Debbie C.

I ordered the seventh avenue salad with creamy herb dressing. It was delicious !!! I've ordered carry out before as well and the food is always hot and amazing.

  • Amy H.

We come here all the way from Orlando for their devil crabs. They are delicious! The Cubans are good too. The service can be slow at times, but the food more than makes up for it

    (5)
  • Donna M.

The food is really tasty and the restaurant is nice and clean. I would recommend this place for good food and excellent service. The portions are large, so, you know you will have left overs for tomorrow's lunch.

  • Ken C.

Truly authentic. Eating here is like eating at my Abuela's house. They don't cook like a restaurant they cook like their at home. Wouldn't think I would find good this good so far from Ybor and West Tampa.

  • Megan B.

No matter how many places I try Cuban sandwiches at, La Septima is hands down my FAVORITE!! I have had their rice and beans also, which are great too. Always a lot of staff around to help. Whether I dine-in or take out, food is always great!!

    (4)
  • Matt V.

This is our favorite place in Brandon to go sit down and have some Ybor style Cuban food. We especially love that they moved from that dilapidated original location! My favorite dish here is the Ropa Viaja! They also serve one of the best sangria around! Service is usually really good.

We ate dinner there. A family restaurant with very good food. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. It was our first time at this restaurant, so we asked her for advice. She advised us very good food. The food was tasty and we got it quick. Prices are very fairly.

    (4)
  • Sheri I.

Good food, good service. Second cafe con leche took half an hour due to milk being heated (?) I am sorry to say I wasn't fond of the crew setting up next at the next table (putting together silverware) and talking very loudly while we were still eating. This will make me rethink my lunches here again, unfortunately.

    (2)
  • Tricia T.

Great, authentic (family owners) Cuban food! Don't shy away because it's in a strip mall. We'll definitely be back and glad we don't have to drive into Tampa anymore for some good Cuban food.

  • Brett N.

Why 3 stars? Because it was decent Comida de Cubano. (I don't speak spanish, but I try real hard.) --- --- --- I was disappointed that they did not have my favorite Cuban dish - the Churrasco Steak. Our server recommended the Steak Pepe instead. Steak Pepe was nothing like the Churrasco steak...but WHAT is, really? Nothing is the answer. It's marinated in a burgundy wine sauce, and I wasn't sure how I felt about it. Some bites left me pleased, and others just left me wishing for an alternative. I'm still undecided, but I had no problem inhaling the whole thing in a few minutes. You can never go wrong with a side of yellow rice and plantains. That's my standard side dish combination at any Cuban restaurant, and it has never let me down to date. I want to experiment with other choices, but it's not an easy task when the comparison is perfection. My Cuban friend informed me that La Septima is translated to "The Seventh." They seem to pride themselves on having an association with Ybor, so that makes sense. I wanted to see if they ever had a location in Ybor, but it doesn't appear so from the info on the website. If you are in the mood for Cuban cuisine while you're in Brandon, this is the place to go. If you are in Tampa, I'd hit up the monopoly of places in the Columbus/Dale Mabry/Hillsborough area.

  • Jennifer N.

Disappointing! Was looking forward to a delicious Cuban meal out and what I found was stale bread, a salad of mostly lettuce and a large plate of yellow rice with a small steak for a large price! Went this evening with my husband, he had the Arroz con Pollo, more rice than chicken. He stated while the chicken was moist it has no flavor. I had the Filete LaSeptima again the plate was 3/4 rice! I also had two glasses of white sangria, which I believe were watered down and even though the online menu states $3. sangrias I was charged $4.95 a piece for. And Come on Cuban bread should be warm and fresh, not cold and hard.. I will not be returning...

I had my first Cuban experience here in Florida. I recently moved from The islands to the US and have visited Cuba twice and had good authentic food there. The good at la septima cafe was of similar quality. I had the room vieja. It was well seasoned and tasty. The ambience was nice and rustic with Spanish music in the background. There was lots of pictures from Cuba all of which makes it seem like u are in Havana. The service was also good, quick and friendly. Overall I had a good experience

  • Olivia D.

We love going to La Septima. The servers are very attentive and the food is full of flavor! The portion sizes are generous as well, so we usually end up taking some home for later. I definitely recommend dinning here.

I've been going to this family owned business for over 10 years also when they were on parsons. I get the Pescada ala rusa - breaded white fish, with yellow rice and black beans. they have the BEST rice and beans hands down. I will support this biz until the end! friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Their food is good and so is their service. Great for lunch or dinner. I'd say they should work on getting some more Natilla!

  • Ali E.

My husband heard of this place for their famous and best Cuban sandwich in the Tampa area so we went for lunch to try it out on a week day. The cuban sandwich was very disappointing; the oil or the butter in it was rancid and my husband had to send it back. The palomilla steak was bland and lacked seasoning, the white rice was like a day old! at least it tasted like that. We asked for a cortadito and the server didnt know what that was, I'm Cuban and we had to tell her what it was and how to make it, well it didnt come out as such it was mostly a bad cafe con leche. They have devil crab croquettes but no ham croquettes? This is a must in a Cuban place. The only good and tasty appetizer we tried was the devil crab croquettes. Overall disappointing experience Sorry for this review but please try harder with the menu and in the kitchen.

Great soup. Fast service (we told them we were in a hurry). Good fish. Good margaritas according to my companion.

  • Derek N.

My fiancee and I went one afternoon for lunch to try it out. Their was not wait so we got sat right away. My fiancee had a glass of their red sangria which she said was very good. We both ordered the lunch portion of Lechon Asado which came with hearty helping of yellow rice and black beans and I ordered a side home-made potato chips. The pork was so tender that it melted in your mouth. The rice and beans were good; your traditional yellow rice and beans! The home-made potato chips were ok. Wish I had ordered the rice and beans. They lacked flavor and needed some type of dipping sauce. The pries for lunch were comparable to most lunch places but we will be going back!

  • Daniel B.

Every time I eat at La Septima, the restaurant ingrains itself as one of my all time favorites. From the Breaded Palomilla Steak, to the Ropa Vieja, to the Lechon Asado, it is refreshing to visit a restaurant time and time again and not have a particular favorite because everything is so darn good. La Septima purposely keeps the menu small so that expertise and care can be tasted in every dish. Even the side dishes are a treat, with tender black beans and a yellow rice that is light and fluffy. The Croqueta De Jaiba (Devil Crab) is made fresh daily with Blue Crab Claw meat and is as authentic as you can get East of 7th Avenue. Not sure what to order, I recommend the Walk Around La Septima, which is a sampling of house favorites: Ropa Vieja, Picadillo and Lechon Asado served with black beans and yellow rice or the Cuban Sandwich with a side of Spanish Bean soup. Treat yourself to an order of Plantos Maduros that are sweet and slightly caramelized and fall closer to a dessert than a side dish. The bar is efficient and welcoming, and though the drink menu is limited they do make a mean Margarita. However, there is little reason to look farther than a carafe of Sangria (either red or white) for two as a compliment to your dinner. There is no set desert menu as the restaurant prefers to switch things around regularly and have a fondness for cheesecake. Though the dinner service is great for date night, the dining room is definitely family friendly. The service has been known to be spotty, but on a busy weekend evening when a flamenco guitarist or keyboard soloist is serenading the crowd, it's easy to get whisked away in a Havana day dream of tantalizing tastes, lovely sounds and delicious smells.

Love La Septima for Cuban food - we've been fans ever since they were in their old location. I've tried a variety of things from their menu, all of which have been executed perfectly. Every time my father is in town, it is a requirement that we go to La Septima. Pros: They give Cuban bread and Green Olive Butter as an appetizer. They have good Café Con Leche. Their pressed Cubans are great! Their pallimillo steak with grilled onions is delicious! Cons: They will not seat your party unless EVERYONE is there. This policy makes sense in certain situations however when you have a party of 4 and there are 3 of them there, you have to seat them at a 4 top anyways so what does it matter if one chair is empty until that person arrives???

  • Launa V.

My family has been getting takeout from (the original-now-nonexistent Parsons location) La Septima for years and now I love dining in at the Kings Ave. location. My favorites are their deviled crab, the chicken and yellow rice, the pork sandwich. Had an awesome potato Spanish soup. So worth trying! Their Cuban sandwiches are a really excellent Tampa- style version, as well. Don't forget the olive butter! Yummy! The staff is always very helpful and friendly and their drink prices are inexpensive to boot. Although, I haven't tried any of the alcoholic beverages myself. Love it- Check this place out!

I have to say that I've been to La Septima many, many times. I have tried most of the food on their menu as well as some of their specials. Generally speaking I find that they do many dishes fantastically and then there are a few dishes that are just a little meh. They moved from their long time location on Parsons the corner spot in a strip mall on Kings. The new spot has some great outdoor seating and is a bit more updated than the original. That being said, I wish they would add a few booths inside so it wasn't table only seating. The new location is open and bright and is a nice little lunch/dinner spot. Food wise I have to admit I love their breaded palomilla steak. It is one of the best in tampa. Their spanish bean soup is a classic and they always have fresh cuban bread with their signature olive butter. Their yellow rice is great and their pork is delicious. If you are looking for classic Tampa/Cuban food at a reasonable price and in a comfortable atmosphere this is the place for you. PS. Jose is a regular server there and he is quite delightful!

Great Cuban food!! I love the ropa veija! And their sangria is amazing too. Oh and the salad dressing! I could go on and on! There is a reason they are one of the preferred vendors at the event venue where I work. Amazing food! -www.emileesjourney.com

Shame on them. This place has not only bad Cuban food, but bad Spanish dishes too. I have been stationed in Madrid for 3 years and La Septima should be ashamed. Back in 2005 we tried the Parson's St. location in Brandon and the Ropa Vieja was like eating shredded meat marinated in Pine Sol....not palatable at all. My wife got the Palomilla Steak and honestly, should would have rather eaten her own foot. So, 7 years later they opened up another location on Lumsden Rd....we have them one more shot....worse than before. The servers stand around talking to each other and we sat for 15 minutes devoid of water and iced tea. We don't ask much from service, but at least remember we are friggin' there. The food was horrible and they brought bread that was neither fresh nor warm. We ate a couple bites of our food and asked for the check. Yes, we paid the full tab rather than complain. After all, you only complain when you may give them another shot. That ain't happenin'.....save your money and just go to the Columbia in Ybor!

I must be honest and say I havent tried much on the menu. Problem is the 7th Avenue salad is so delish it's the only thing I order from here. Yum!

I really enjoy the Picadillo Con Papas Fritas it's a good price at $10.50, the meal comes with two sides: (your choice of) PEAS, YELLOW RICE, WHITE RICE, YUCA, PLATANO Devil crabs made fresh daily with Blue Crab Claw meat. $3.75 always a tasty treat, although it's not a Carmine's devil crab. Breaded Palomilla Steak. Topped with grilled onions. Served with two side items. $10.95 I've always left pleasently full with a to-go container. They have a wine list if that's your thing. HAPPY HOUR Monday-Saturday 3pm-7pm Drafts: $2.00 Bud Light, Michelob Ultra Well Drinks: $3.00 Vodka, Gin, Rum, Tequila, Whiskey House Wine and Sangria: $3.00 Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, White Zinfandel Here is the menu link: laseptimacafe.com/menu.s… The staff can come off a bit stuffy. Overall I really enjoy the food, I've been many times. There is plenty of great parking.

From the street, the building that holds La Septima Café may not look like much. As the matter of fact, it looks like an ordinary office building. Once you are inside the restaurant, the interior décor is nothing but ordinary. Burgundy walls give off a cozy ambiance. Framed old black and white photographs make the space feel homy and inviting. The aroma from the kitchen was very enticing. We knew that we were in for a treat. The Casino, slow roasted pork sandwich was tasty. The roasted pork was tender, combined with the crunchiness of hot pressed bread and the mojo, it was exquisito! The Agliano, deep fried fish filet sandwich, was also a hit. The fish filet was not greasy. The paper-thin homemade Spanish potatoes were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Our waitress was terrific. She delivered a great service, which enhanced our overall dinning experience. Personally, I cannot wait to go back and sample everything on the menu, especially the Croqueta De Jaiba (Devil Crab).

La Septima is a nice surprise in a rather quiet strip mall. The restaurant is smaller and seems to be always busy! The decor gives a comfortable home like feel with the rich walls and lots of photographs and an easy set up. They have a full bar with a few high top tables if you choose to eat there rather than wait for a sit down table. The menu is not huge, but their dishes are tailored to a T. They know they do them well! The night we went, they had a couple pretty appetizing specials. Be sure to ask! Our meal was fantastic. I ordered a glass of their sangria. Ahhhmazing! They coat the rim of the class with a cinnamon sugar and the sangria itself was rich and fruity. I ordered a deviled crab that came out big and spicy. Recently, I had deviled crab at Linda's (in Lakeland) and La Septima's blew theirs out the water for freshness, the large chunks of crab meat, and overall taste. The bread served before the meal was warm and fresh and goes great for sopping up the remainder of their signature Seventh Avenue salad dressing. I ordered the Cuban - the pulled roasted pork made this sandwich. It was a big portion and the pressed buttery bread was melt in your mouth good. Also, ordered was The Casino. This is a MUST try! The mojo sauce is so good I could just drink it out the bowl! The Casino comes with home made chips that had a great flavor. Service was a little questionable this visit. Although we waited for about 35 minutes to be seated, our server took about 5 minutes to come take our drink order... then forgot my sangria until 20 minutes and two reminders later... paying took about 15 minutes to come pick up the card... overall making the meal rather lengthy, but we didn't have a rushed schedule so we let it slide.

Very disappointed in the food here. My fiancé and I were urged by coworkers to eat here so we were expecting some pretty amazing food. The Cuban sandwich was lacking flavor, neither of us enjoyed our lunch here. Service was slow, server was inattentive and not very friendly. We got the impression we were bothering her although we are very low maintenance. Definitely won't be back.

Amazinggg food, sangrias that are to die for, and AMAZING service... Seriously cannot wait to go back. The food is worth the money because I'll be getting two full meals out of this dinner!

We moved to FL not too long ago from NYC and I have been dying for some REAL Cuban food. Distraught at the places to eat down here, I was SOOO happy to stumble on La Septima Cafe. This is now my favorite restaurant in Brandon!! Great prices and delicious food. I ordered the Arroz Con Pollo lunch special with yellow rice and a side of black beans and sweet plantanos. It hit the spot! We also ordered the steak pepe. It was just okay, but that's because I'm not a big fried steak person. And the Yucca side dish was so good. The Croqueta De Jaiba (Devil Crab) had a nice portion of crab in it, well worth the $. This is definitely going to be a regular spot for us and I'm looking forward to trying other things on the menu next time. Update: Don't order the Arroz Con Pollo late at night. It is dry and likely to have sat in the heater for quite some time to be kept warm. Throw some of their delicious pickled onion on it and it becomes very good again.

I was initially thrilled as the one YBOR city was DELISH. The service was pleasant and attentive, however, the skirt steak (ropa vieja) didnt live up to its full potential. The beans and yellow rice were yummy and for that alone I would go back to give it another go...

This place used to be the $hit. it's still Ok but I'll never go back. La Cubanita across the street has a cuban sandwich that puts this place to shame and it's a lot cheaper. Don't get me wrong, it's got some pretty good dishes like the ropa vieja and the palomilla steak, but then other dishes are like..WTF!? (arroz con pollo). If you've never been then it's worth a try. I liked it better it the old location.

I highly recommend La Septima. I had the palomilla steak, yellow rice and black beans, and devil crab. All very good!

Arrived 15 min before closing on a Fri night. We were welcomed and not made to feel like we were in the way. Our food was wonderful. The presentation was simplistic, but would rather have good food than anything else. As we were leaving, had a delightful conversation with the owner's husband. He recommended a cookbook where I could get the natilla recipe. He was so nice and appreciative of our business. Look forward to going back, just a short distance off I 75. I promised him I'd write a yelp review because that's how we found the place. That was in April. Better late than never!

I have been dining here for years. Lately, the food quality has been awful! I like chicken and yellow rice. The last few times, my chicken tasted reheated. Tonight, the black beans and rice were both cold and not edible. Boo!

Coming from South Florida it is hard to find good Cuban Food. This food is just ok, but it is extremely over prized. The best thing I think they have going is the olive butter (good but sad) :(

This is for the new location on Kings - Much nicer looking place than the old Parsons location. Service and food are on par with the original.

Stopped by the N Parsons location only to find them closed on Saturday. After reading all the reviews we were a bit disappointed. Fortunately we saw the sign directing us to the new location on Lumsden. We had the reviled crab cake which was fresh and delicious. The half Casino and soup was an excellent and filling choice for lunch. The Casino had tender, juicy, melt in your mouth roast pork on fabulous crisp pressed bread. The Spanish bean soup was better than the black bean soup and I hope to try the Caldo Gallegos soup on our next visit. The decor is contemporary with a wall of family photos. Service was polite and attentive. I didn't even have to ask for a refill on my tea. If you are in the area don't miss this family operated gem.

Trust the ratings. Great food, service, and prices. Don't pass up the lasagna if it's the special. Devil crab is great, too. Heck, it's all outstanding.

Fantastic Cuban food. I had the Casino Sandwich with a cup of mojo sauce to dip it in... Awesome! And it came with homemade potato chip that were really good, you tell they were fresh made.

Great staff and service. Wish the food was that good. The sangria seemed watered down. The theme of the evening was bland. This was true for the chicken ( Arroz con Pollo), the fried fish (Pescara ), the black beans and even the fried plantains... Disappointed as the expectations were high after the great reviews!

Awesome food, atmosphere, wait staff. Try the chicken and yellow rice. Their deviled crabs are the absolute best around!!!!! Highly recommended. A must if you are in Brandon.

Food is amazingly good...have never had a bad meal. Just opened a new location on the corner of lumsden and kings...food is just as amaxing but I prefer the atmosphere and service at the parsons location.

After being disappointed by another place that I found on Yelp that had received great reviews, I was somewhat skeptical and went in with low expectations. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The wait staff was extremely nice and responsive. When the food came, it was very good. I tried the Walk around La Septima so that I could try several things and I enjoyed them all. If you are looking for 4-star gourmet presentation, this is not the place. This is hearty Cuban homestyle. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The Mojo sauce was fantastic on the pork...and everything else! Next time I'm in the Tampa/Brandon area, I will definitely go back.

Visiting the area and a local steered me to LeSeptima. Excellent in all aspects and ask the bartender to make HIS margarita and it was superb.

It was my last day in town and I wanted some good Cuban food before I headed back home. I immediately thought of La Septima. I had frequented this little hidden gem so many times in the past that I had to do it again. This visit was no disappointment. The service was quick, the food was as awesome as I remembered. I ordered the Casino which was a marinated pork cuban served with mojo and home made potato chips. The sandwich was filling but not over the top. The mojo was a nice touch to the sandwich & I loved the home made chips, you don't find these often and I was glad that they served them here. I'm glad that after all these years, La Septima's still got it! I'll definitely be back on my next trip!

Heard someone raving about this place so when I headed down here for lunch. Though, I felt a little out of place since everyone was about 30 years older than I was, I still REALLY enjoyed the whole experience. The staff was extremely pleasant and efficient even with a busy lunch rush. Our server recommended the specials. The food was delicious, though I'm assuming since it was busy and we did order the special, that the food had been pre-made so ours came out a little less than luke warm. However, if that is my only complaint. I know I would still come here for a nice lunch.

  • Addy A.

Bread came out un toasted. Could have been better. For it not being busy, waiter could have packed the to go box. Cafe con Leche is not authentic, not good. Loved the Blue crab croquetta. The lunch special was a steal. I wouldn't come back if I were visiting Brandon.. Under whelmed by food despite preview reviews.

A short trip back to my old neighborhood, Valrico, Fl and we had to stop in here for lunch. We could have made a day of it, though. We love this place! Large portions, great service, all you favorite Cuban dishes and prices are excellent! I got the half Cuban sandwich, pressed, with a bowl of black bean soup. Nothing better! They have a good selection of desserts as well. Get here early for lunch, though. This is not a secret!

Definitely a keeper! I think I've had everything on their menu at one point or another, so here are the highlights: -The Cuban: a great standard cuban, pressed or unpressed. -Ropa Vieja: amazingly flavorful shredded flank steak simmered in wine. Definitely my favorite and is also good as a sandwich -Breaded Palomilla Steak: not that great for you and it just looks like country fried steak, but it's surprisingly tasty and tender -Lechon Asado: Roast pork that knocks your socks off with flavor! Tangy with a bit of sweetness, but very juicy -Platanos: I mean, you can't get better than plantains, and these aren't the almost-savory fried versions, but are the sweet and slightly caramelized plantains that feel closer to a dessert than a side. -Black beans and yellow rice: another great side!

This was the most delicious food we have ever had. We stopped in on a visit from California and had never tried Cuban food before. The service was good and fast, and the meat was so tender and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Food: delicious. I've never been disappointed. Portions: generous. Price: solid, as much as you'd pay at Chile's or Friday's or Applebee's or some other lesser place, but so much better. Service: usually great. Although, at least once I can recall when it was a bit slow. Anytime a friend is in town it's where I bring them.

Awesome awesome food. Got the combo platter so I could try a little of everything, was cooked perfectly. They make a mean mojito as well. I'll go back.

Maybe my husband and I have seen too much Restaurant Impossible or maybe we just have high standards for what we expect from a non-chain restaurant. We went here on a Friday night hoping for a nice change from the chain stuff and some unique food we haven't tried. We unfortunately were disappointed. They advertise their food like it is homemade and authentic and from the large crowd we were hoping that was actually true. I ordered the Sangria which as a previous reviewer described had cinnamon and sugar on the rim, I however did not enjoy that and wiped it off. Due to the overpowering flavor of cinnamon I couldn't really enjoy the sangria and truthfully it tasted like it was poured out of a bottle not fresh made at all, I didn't finish it. Then we ordered the deviled crab. We were pleased with this part of the meal because there was a lot of crab and very little filling and the flavoring was nicely balance not overpowering, I did finish that. Then came the chicken and rice. The menu did not specify that the chicken was a leg and thigh on the bone. I would have preferred breast meat mixed in with the rice and was expecting that. I will say that it was tender and the flavor was good but it clearly came from a warming pan and had been sitting awhile. They had garnished it with peas on top but that was unappealing because the peas clearly came from a can and I was glad I did not order them as a side dish if that is the way they were being served. The peas are either straight from a can or grossly overcooked. I found the yellow rice flavoring just OK not impressive at all and it was sticky and lukewarm like it also came from a warming pan. The black beans I had as a side dish were also straight from a can and also not bad but not impressive at all. My husband was very unhappy with the steak with red sauce he ordered. He swears that it came straight from the freezer and was thrown on the grill and that his potatoes were powdered and not homemade. The garlic potatoes tasted good but he was right they had the unmistakable gluey texture of boxed potatoes. The bread was OK, again not anything particularly special as far as we were concerned, it was not even served warm. He has informed me that I can cross this one off the list because we will not be going back. I have to agree because I am no chef just a home cook but I can make better chicken and rice than that at home. And really how hard is it to make real potatoes?

My wife and I love this place! Quiet, clean and not terribly expensive, this is a great place for a date. We especially love the Ropa Vieja and crabrolls. Definitely a place to try if you're looking for good Cuban food.

I tried the Palomillo Steak Lunch Special. It was delicious and the portion was generous. Too bad that our waitress provided little attention and was apathetic.

Great food for the value, they don't try to do too much with their selection. What they do is quite well. The food is always slow cooked and handled with care. The dinner is so filling we never have dessert. I would recommend because it is a pretty cool casual place to eat and the food and service is outstanding.

We've gone back several times now - this one's on the favorites list for lunch. You absolutely must have the Casino sandwich (I do the half sandwich and soup). Mojo marinated pork with thin sliced onion. Ask for extra mojo for dipping. I swear there's crack in that stuff. Citrusy, garlicky, oniony, herby, WOW!

When I travel from Phoenix back home to Tampa, I make it a point to visit La Septima. It's not like going home unless I get a pressed cuban and a flan for desert. A great family owned restaurant that you should take the time to visit!

After a couple of hours roaming a nearby nursery, it was time to grab a good bite to eat. The nice woman at Kerby's recommended La Septima, 2 miles down from the nursery. We went with sandwiches: cuban, ropa vieja, and the casino. Meats were full of flavor and slow-cooked to tenderness. Sides included yuca, platanos maduros, and deviled crab ... all were equally delicious. Would come back to try other main entree dishes. Great local place in an unassuming strip mall.

Surprisingly good food - although I was a little skeptical when we first walked in to the establishment. We both had the walk around la septima which was a sampling of the house favorites. This entree consisted of ropa vieja (flank steak), picadillo and lechon asado (ground beef with olives and orange mojo marinated pork). I enjoyed the steak and ground beef but the pork was extremely dry. I would recommend getting the flank steak dish alone. Portions are very large so come hungry.

Without a doubt the WORST Cuban food I have ever had. I grew up in Miami and am accustomed to finding terrific Cuban food just about anywhere. Tampa not so much. La Septima Cafe was dark and dingy inside. The "bread" brought to the table was old, hard and tasteless. The Cuban sandwich was burnt. The roasted pork was extremely dry and unseasoned. The Ropa Vieja really did resemble and taste like old shredded clothes. Still looking for a decent Cuban meal out....

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
