Great burger and awesome homemade fresh-cut fries!!! More than enough food served. Little on the pricy side for the burger. Dive like atmosphere with great service.

Great smothered biscuits and gravy!! Their breakfast burritos are amazing, be sure to get it smothered, as the green chili is the best part! Hubs got the burrito with chorizo and raved about it. WAY too much food! We stopped in for breakfast and will definitely be back to try their burgers. The only downside is that they don't have very many tables. Still, though, they managed to accommodate our group of 8. Super friendly staff, too!

Located on one of the main drags into Montrose, CO. It looks like a Shanty, it's small and older no decor but clean. The service is fast and friendly and the food is delicious, several specialty burgers, fries, onion rings and milk shakes, good size servings. They serve breakfast too. Inside and outside seating.

Options are pretty limited in Montrose when it comes to breakfast, but after waffling over the few choices available, we decided to go with The Shanty II. They offer standard American 'diner' food -- breakfast (eggs, pancakes, etc), burgers and shakes mostly. Very limited options for anyone with dietary restrictions -- breakfast was the safest bet. Service was prompt and friendly. Our waitress kept our waters topped off and checked on us throughout our meal, even when the restaurant began to fill up for lunch. Thankfully, my dining partner and I managed to get our orders in before they stopped serving breakfast (around 11:30). The wait was pretty standard (20 minutes or so). My partner had the Machaca scramble, a Mexican-inspired combination of eggs and shredded beef, which he enjoyed -- although he expressed disappointment in the seemingly undercooked hashbrowns that accompanied his meal. I had the 'Denver' omelet, which consisted of 3 still-runny eggs stuffed with a surprisingly watery (and bland) combination of ham, cheese, tomatoes, onions and green chiles (not green peppers, as the menu indicated). The accompanying mound of hashbrowns were mediocre -- golden-brown but devoid of crispyness -- limp and oily. Ketchup rescued my meal. Overall, The Shanty II is a pretty standard diner with large, greasy portions of half-heartedly cooked food. Oh... and come prepared for a dose of conservative politics with your meal; they keep FOX News playing on the TVs. Personally, I found it a little too early in the day to hear adults shrieking about beheadings, false rape claims, and 'the homosexual agenda'. I hope they'll consider a change to cartoons instead -- less alienating, more uplifting and generally kid safe. Win win.

Great breakfast spot on the way back from Telluride. I would recommend this little family owned spot to anyone. Great job. We will be back. Good small town environment restaurant. The breakfast was great. The malts were great. Thanks for a good recarging meal.

Nice quaint little Mom & Pop type place. Don't let the parking scare you off. Pleasant, friendly and quick service. The small staff was very organized and could multi-task. They flow well together.

The Shanty II is probably closer to 3 1/2 stars, but not 4. The service is friendly and efficient. We were greeted immediately, served right away and checked on frequently. The menu is pretty basic, burgers and sandwiches. The sign outside lays claim to shakes and malts, but when my husband ordered one to go, our server said they were all out of ice cream. Really? Every flavor? It seemed odd. We both had the green chili burger (mine without cheese - and I was delighted that it actually came to me without cheese). The burger was nicely cooked, the bun was fluffy and fresh, but the green chili lacked something. My husband had the hand-cut fries (I should have, my onion rings were typical frozen-from-a-bag), and he was happy they had fry sauce. It's a good quick meal with friendly service.

Fantastic green chili burgers!! Small and local restaurant! Hours aren't the best! But defiantly a good eat!

Good food. Fries do not seem like they are frozen so I think they are made on site. Gets pretty busy, so you might have to wait for a few minutes for a table. I'd stop there again.

We found The Shanty II on yelp while passing through Montrose on vacation. Man what a great find! My wife had the Santa Fe Burger with 2 kinds of cheese and green chile gravy. Served with natural cut fries. It was absolutely delicious! I had the Breakfast Burrito. A big flour tortilla stuffed with eggs, green chile hash browns, and your choice of bacon, sausage, ham, or chorizo (I had ham). It was also fantastic. Service was very fast, and friendly. This is the kind of place you wish you could find close to home.

Smothered Biscuits and Gravy were absolute heaven! The biscuits were the best I've ever had! Far superior to another location in town that is suppose to be famous for their biscuit! I've been told by a couple people the burgers are awesome, thinking a lunch stop is in my future! The location is small and quit. The waitress was very sweet and we received or food within five mins of ordering! This will defiantly be a stop every time we are visiting from Cali!

There's a very welcoming hometown ambience to the Shanty II and the fare is not only comfort food, but punctual, piping hot comfort food. The staff is helpful and the service right on. Great place to start or finish your day at.

Ate there just looking for a news place to eat. Not bad little over priced and I would not eat the fry sauce on the table it had mayo in it from what the waiter told me but they have it just sitting on the table that is a health hazard

My breakfast sandwich with sausage was good. Probably worth about half what they charged for it though. My husband had the loaded biscuits and gravy and it wasn't that great. The gravy was flavorless and we didn't care for the green chiles that were all over it. The service was very fast and friendly though.

The food is super greasy I would say ordered a burger and it slides off the bun.Friendly service I would say..

Great burgers and real fries. Kids meals are pricey $7 and there isn't a lot of space to sit. Adult meals are less than $10.

After camping for a night at the Black Canyon NP I needed something to right the wrongs that had been done to me and the dish as a whole by some bad green chile I had the day prior. The chile here is possibly the best I have ever had. I don't care if it takes forever to get your order, or if they play Fox News on all the TV's. I need a Shanty green chile tap in my house.

The Shanty II was a great surprise in Montrose. The family and I were in unfamiliar territory in need of lunch. A quick Yelp search sent us to a place that had closed. As we left my son saw The Shanty II. We're glade he did. It didn't look like much but they served burgers and the small parking lot was packed. That's generally a good sign. The menu is a bit limited, but that's ok. Burgers, chicken sandwiches and breakfast are all that's on the menu. The Shanty II knows it' customers and serves them well. You'll find a number of burger combo's, take your pick, they'll all be excellent. The reason being the burger meat is done in house, no frozen fast food patties. The chicken sandwich is different in that it's not a whole breast; it's cut up into bite size pieces much like a stir fry. This may be the best chicken sandwich I have eaten; too bad it was my wife's. My burger was outstanding as was my son's bacon cheese burger. Both were large, juicy and perfectly cooked. My wife hose a salad as her side and thought it was one of the better salads she had had in a long time. Where Shanty II slipped were their fries, while they are fresh cut they were not crispy and were a bit limp, disappointment for my son and me. The chocolate shake my son ordered was very good. The Shanty II will defiantly be a place we revisit, however next time maybe salad or onion rings as a side.

Came in for breakfast on a blustery winter morning looking for some comfort food, and we landed in comfort food heaven. The Loaded biscuits and gravy were nothing short of incredible. Biscuits, gravy, hash browns, and two eggs smothered in AMAZING green chile sauce. I probably only needed to eat half of it, but I honestly couldn't put my fork down. My husband had the breakfast burrito with chorizo (also smothered in green chile sauce) and he had the same issue with not being able to rest his fork. We will we back... I have my eye on the Belgian waffle with peanut butter sauce for next time.

Fantastic. Dropped in on a long car trip through town. I got the huevos rancheros for breakfast. Best meal I have had in days. Ultra friendly waitress.

Little burger cafe with very good burgers. Service was excellent. $8.95 for a burger and fries. Fries are not peeled and we do not like that. Ours were all peeling, very little actual potato. Very small with limited seating but we enjoyed our burgers.

With some minor fine tuning, this could be a great little diner. The food is pretty decent; better than I expected, and the atmosphere was quaint, even cozy. Apparently, there is a loyal following - there was only one table available at 1:30 in the afternoon. What I found lacking was service. Don't get me wrong; it wasn't like we waited for a half hour before our order was taken, nor were the meals served by a graceless curmudgeon. The service was speedy and even cheerful. The overlooked elements were intuition - the ability to see something wrong and correct it, and thoroughness - smoothing out the rough edges. Okay, it was precisely this: My waitress left her cleaning rag on my table and never came back for it. Straw wrappers accumulated, then a used paper napkin. After four table visits and numerous passes, the dirty rag remained. One of the kitchen staff brought out our orders, looked at the rag as if it were her first time seeing one, then hesitating, asked, "Do you need this?". Really, do you need to ask to remove a pile of debris AND a dirty, smelly cleaning rag from my table? No, I don't think I'll be needing that. I may return and give them a chance to redeem themselves. After all, the Reuben really was pretty good.

I have been here several times since my first review. Service is so good now with the same waitress. This is one place in Montrose that I can get the breakfast I want with a great coffee. My boyfriend still loves the loaded biscuits and gravy. In one weekend trip we will eat breakfast here at least twice. We have to come back for burgers and milkshakes. I hear they are the best in town. Keep up the good work shanty II!
