Good Beer and great staff. Wings and homemade chips with "horsefly" sauce were good. Stay away from the fish tacos. We'll definitely return for some more wings and brews.

Found this place last year while on our road trip. Fun little place, seems to be the local hang out. Burgers are the bomb. 1/2lb cooked medium and messy! They now have natural beef from a local farmer which was delicious. The owner is always there, but spends most of his time drinking with the locals instead of talking to customers. Beer was good, but the staff knows little about the profiles. I had the APA, and the dark mild. The dark was a perfect recreation of the British dark I had back in the day. The APA malty with a generous hop.

Good place to grab a brew and a burger. Nice outdoor seating as well.

This is a nice local hang-out that brews beer. I am not a beer person, so I leaned toward a raspberry flavored beer, but the hubby and sister-in-law pooh poohed it. They liked the dark beer the best. It was nice in Montrose so we mainly sat outside. Definitely a local place with everyone there knowing each other. Cool toward tourist, but polite. Didn't really come to the place for the food, but did order wings which were very good.

Made a quick stop at this place while traveling. The kitchen was being remodeled so there was an extremely limited menu but all was well nonetheless. Enjoyed the beer menu and off the limited menu had the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious. I imagine this place being pretty darn good when fully up and running.

Was passing and saw the brewer sign. I'm on vacation - what the heck! Waiter was very friendly and answered our questions with ease. Cool little local's place. Great to sit outside, watch the world go by and have a brew. I recommend the Jazzy Red or Red Jazzy - can't remember which it was. Flavorful, not too fruity, and went well with my cod sandwich. The sandwich was huge with an overkill of tartar sauce. Good sauce - just too much. Sweet potato fries were great. Not flaccid (who wants flaccid fries?) and a nice crunch. They had a sweet sauce that was unremarkable. I prefer maple butter with mine. All in all - an enjoyable afternoon. Now time for a nap.

Very, very slow and poor service at 330pm on a Saturday. But I have patience. The patio had only one wait staff and it was moderately busy. I was finished with my large iced tea and large water before my order was taken. I hydrate. Perhaps smaller towns are harder to find employees? The garlic Parmesan wings were crispy good but a tad flavorless. I tried other sauces and they were superior. Overall a decent stop. We stayed true to breweries only on our adventure. Did not try the beer though. You are bound to have better success and experience as I hope this was an off day. Check it out. You may be glad you did.

This is a little gem tucked away in this little town, and we are glad we didn't just drive through the town. It has a sweet Patio with ton of seats and great shades, and good list of brews. We tried a flight and a couple of burgers, very impressed with the beer and the burgers were interest, bacon burger was to die for but you could never go wrong with bacon. Only negative was our waitress didn't return for half an hour after the food was brought out so we had to go to the counter to pay our bill.

Great service. Very accommodating. Let me order simple little easy things off the menu. Good beer! I was very happy with my dining experience here as a whole. Would recommend. Had a very festive set up for the Fourth of July (independence day).

Great assortment of beer! Blonde and jazzy razzy was good (for you light beer drinkers). I'm a dark beer person, porter was off the hook! Coconut porter was solid, and chocolate stout was tasty too. Good place if you're looking for a good brewery!

Favorite of the locals, came across this little gem on a visit to Montrose Colorado. Ultra casual with in door and out door seating. The Brewing Co boasts several specialty beers brewed on the property. In addition they hand patty their burgers and make their own desserts. Laid back and relaxed can't be in a hurry when eating here, food makes it worth it. Was just what we were looking for to sit out and enjoy a good meal in the Colorado fresh air.

Made a stop here on our way to the Black Canyon. OK brews with pretty good food. Really liked the BBQ pork sandwich and the special mexican equivalent of the pork sandwich. The service was pretty crap and we had to go to the bar to get drinks, refills, silverware... etc... would probably stop by here for a drink and food if we were passing through again but would probably just sit at the bar. P.S. I know that this is the "Horsefly Brewing Company" but damn... please do something about your fly problem...

Food was OK. Service was S-L-O-W. I got the feeling they were under-staffed. Enjoyed sitting outside and being able to have our dogs on the patio with us.

We decided to give this place another try. We really wanted to like it based on the outdoor atmosphere and the Yelp reviews calling this a local favorite. Obviously we were very soured from our first trip here where we were looked over and never helped by multiple staff members. This time we were asked where we wanted to sit and service was quick. However, the server didn't know much about the beers we were ordering, and didn't even know the name of one of them. That's a big turnoff for us when we visit a brewery. We ordered a couple appetizers and really enjoyed sitting outdoors with our dog. The appetizers were nothing special or different from any other fried food at a bar. We won't bother visiting again and wouldn't recommend it. We wouldn't have returned but we really wanted to knock it off our Montrose brewery list. They should just stick to the neighborhood bar and food gig.

When in Montrose, try this gem. Having gone to this place with 14 people, I was not sure how things would go. Luck would have it that we got a young guy named Branden as our server and he was fantastic. There are always some small glitches in a lodge group, he he was patient and attentive and really did a great job. The food was great too. Appetizers were fast to come out and the menu has a great selection of food. I highly recommend the 50/50 burger. Half bacon and beef... What a great flavor and done perfectly well. Thanks again to the folks at Horsefly for making it a great experience.

I'd venture to say this is the best patio I've been to in Colorado. I truly was blown away by how nice this brewery is. On a recent trip to Montrose, I couldn't help but try the local breweries and was overwhelmed by how great it was. On this occasion, we had the full sampler which included all 8 beers on tap and each of them had fantastic flavor, I really enjoyed the Scottish and the Double IPA. It was somewhat refreshing to see nothing to frou frou rather pretty straight forward, very well made, delicious beers. I was very impressed by the whole selection and the cool breeze sitting out on that patio couldn't have been more delightful. I'd highly recommend anyone in the area to hit them up and you'll be sure to enjoy!

Delightful! Amazing patio experience! We stopped by for a sampler flight after playing a lil disc golf and had a super great time here. Around noon on a Saturday, the joint was jumpin and the patio was almost full. There were families, couples and even a dog and a child in a sandbox hanging out. The patio ambiance was relaxing and welcoming, shaded and sunny with fun garden art and comfy chairs. I love the label art and beer names too, although flies aren't the most appealing, they really rocked the idea. We had a full sampler of 8 beers that were pretty tasty. I really liked the hefeweizen and the red. The carrier said 'Time's fun when you're having flies!' - tee hee. They have a super big menu, but we only got the beer cheese dip made with the red ale and it was fantastic! We had great service and conversation and would return if it wasn't so far from home base. Anyone in this area must stop by here, it was a great time.

It is a Saturday night and the place was happening. We sat inside but there was a live band outside. I had the Asian Chicken Salad and it hit the spot. We also had the 50/50 slider and if we had ordered it in the regular size we would of sent it back; just gross. We also had the Down 'n Dirty and Sweet and Spicy wings; they were amazing, we would come back for them! The funny part is the women's restroom; it is in the dining room and I had a front row seat of all the girls lined up to use it. Everyone knew each other and would hug and say hi and chat as each one held the door for the next girl to go in. I think the wings are a good enough reason the give 4 stars instead of 3!

Traveling from California, gotta say some of the best micro brews, my favorite was the Paso Fino Porter, the food was very tasty, and service was great on Sunday afternoon....this will be my regular watering hole when I visit family in Montrose!

Took a friend from Florida there this weekend and the food was cold and messed up my check. The quality of food does not match the prices. And this is the third time I've eaten there out of about five total times I wasn't pleased..

A glistening ray of beer-tinted sunlight shines on Montrose: The Horsefly. Growing up in ol' Mo-town, I saw many transformations of the building now occupied by this fantastic brewery, including a KFC. But now, the use of space for the provision of unique and tasty brews and food is a most welcome change. The atmosphere is this place is as laid back as those who frequent it. The decorations are rustic and artistic, including much original artwork. The beers: overall excellent. Every once in a while you try a new one that is under-carbonated (e.g. recently the gingerbread stout, although still very good). The Scottish is a favorite, as is the Jazzy Razzy, which finds itself as a top contender on my very short list of favorite fruity beers. Great food that caters to by German persuasions, and decent prices for a place that could probably charge more. (Please don't. Thanks!) Also, happy hour is Monday through Friday 3-5 with daily specials.

Unless you like off-tune music and terrible bands, not to Mention the food looks like it has been dropped on the floor a few times, I wouldn't waste your time! Gross. If you go for the micro brews, expect crappy service, long waits, and warm beer

Had lunch there today with my wife and friend; we are locals from the area around Montrose. I ordered the Reuben with BBQ fries and let me tell you friend, THAT WAS NO REUBEN. The mystery meat resembled a pressed loaf that was sliced (something you'd see in a deli case in a clamshell container) and laid on the rye bread wasn't actually corned beef. It didn't taste like corned beef (had no taste at all, not salty, nor baked), did not look like corned beef, and did not have the texture of corned beef. What it was I can not accurately say. The sauerkraut was hardly firm in texture and could have come from a jar. The temperature as delivered to the table was luke warm at best, which leads me to my next comment. How long can it take a kitchen to get out a Cobb salad and two sandwich plates? Ten minutes? How about 20 minutes and when the place wasn't even a third seating filled with an empty bar on a Tuesday afternoon at 1 P.M.? Very slow service as described in other reviews that you can read on this site. Should I have sent it back? Probably, but I'd rather finish it to confirm my initial impressions, pay my bill and write up a review like this to let other folks know how bad that particular item was. Maybe alert the management that they need to step up and actually serve what the menu describes "Our customers describe it is the best in town." What town? Certainly not Montrose, because the Reuben is better at two other sandwich shops there. This was our fall-back place as Two Sisters was closed, but we sure won't be back as it may serve a bunch of good beers, but the restaurant side of the business is not worthy. Maybe you have to down a bucket or so of beer to be desperate enough to order off the menu. Nope, nope, nope. Edited: HOLEY MOLEY!! Just found out from other reviews that this place used to be a Colonel Cluck's! Bad Kluck karma must be the reason this place's food is so bad. When was there ever good food coming out of a KFC? Colonel Sanders' poltergeist, wooooooo!!!!!!

Food = 5 (The best clam chowder I've ever had... they should do it every day. I had mine with a very authentic German pretzel.) Price = 4 Experience = 5 (Sat at the end of the bar with some locals/employees. Fun and super welcoming gang. Young servers that are well trained and attentive.) The local brewers are around too. I had a great Oktoberfest... several of them.

Dang ,how can I give a 0 ? Went in a little before 8 on May 4th. Sat down and the waitress came right over . Ordered an Ice tea ,yeah they sell beer which I usually have after I eat. Brought the tea. Place not real slammed but busy. Then I noticed a guy get up and walk over to the bar and tell her was ready to order. Really? I waited and tried to flag down a waiter who had just taken an order from a nearby table. He was headed to the restroom and must of really had to go. When he came back I tried again. Had to much to do I guess at the bar. Now I have eaten here before , like the food and the beer, so I knew the wait staff is slow but they always get to you. Well after 15 minutes , I WON'T go tell her I am ready to order, I got up and went to the bar to tell the gal with the hat I wanted to pay for my tea. Don't believe in skipping no matter how crappy the service . She asked everything was and I told her I had been waiting for over 15 minutes to order so it wasn't to good. NO I am sorry , NO is there something I can do? NOTHING! The "waitress" I did have walked right past me to a guy in a black shirt. 'Can I take a break? She asked. What??? The "manager" was right behind me ?I was going to talk to him but about that time the hat gal brought me my change. I was pissed off. NEVER again will I go here.

I love everything about this place! This is my hometown feel I love when I come home to visit. I always have to have jazzy razzy and love it every time! Love the severs. Owner is always around and talking to everyone. The vibe is just chill place. I love catching up with old friends there because it's never to loud!

Unpretentious, relaxed and a really great place for decent food, delicious brews, good music and sports. This is one of those places where you can sit down and enjoy the company of friends, a good meal and terrific prices. The menu has a variety of sandwiches, salads and other tasty dishes. I tried the 50/50 burger, while the taste was good, the burger was a bit dry and it could have used some veggies...lettuce, tomato, a nifty sauce of some sort...maybe mushrooms too. The onion rings were tasty with ranch dressing. My dining companion enjoyed her Asian chicken salad (the dressing was delicious!) The decor is fun and the service is good. Plenty of parking, very easy to find. I'll have to visit again soon to try the home brews. Recommend you give Horsefly a try.

This place was excellent we had a large group of 17 people and they accommodated us even though it was raining and we could not sit outside. The food was good for bar food and the beers were diverse enough to keep all of our group happy. The service was excellent with all of the servers helping out when needed. I would recommend for a small or a larger group

Just walk in and find a place. Being shy ill advised. Stopped in during St. Patrick's day festivities. Live "local" musicians played on and off throughout my visit. All were unique, yet enjoyable. Robbie was our Server, he was attentive, informative, and patient with all of our "first timer" questions. I had the Bavarain Burger. It was great and their beers were great too. When I travel to see family in Montrose, CO I will definitely return here.

  • Jeff E.

Place was an average little "bar". Awkward setting, beer was so-so, food was ehh. One can only assume this sort of establishment in Montrose. Would I go back, probably not. Nothing against the servers, they were fine, but I could probably get something better from a chiles restaurant.

Stopped on for a lunch visit and had a blonde beer and fish and chips. The fish and chips was probably the best I've had. It was a very large portion and had a light crispy batter. The chips are home made wavey style. Beer was good and so was the service.

I ate here on a business trip. Good burger. Good beer. Stick with the lighter ones unless you like really strong beer. The double IPA one was super strong. The Horsefly was good. The people were nice too.

Homemade root beer! Mmmm Sometimes the wings are amazing(honey mustard is my fav!) & somethings they're okay(garlic parm & sweet.spicy) The pretzel was tasty, but wasnt a fan of the cheese it came with. Fun patio. Friendly crowd :) they offer a "pour it forward" where you can buy someone a beer before they get there. Overall, nice experience ! Fav Montrose spot so far!

I have lived in San Diego area for 10 years, so I know good beer and breweries, example (Stone, Ballast Point, Green Flash, Racer 5, Alesmith etc). Whoever is the brew master here, knows what they are doing. The beer is top notch. The amber, octoberfest, porter, pale ale were all on point. Even the peach ale was tasty. The food was solid, turkey club was great and the happy hour tacos hit the spot. This place is solid!

  • Carrie S.

Service was great, homemade root beer was awesome and food was decent. I ordered the cheese and sausage plate, unfortunately the cheese had been out awhile and was greasy, warm, and hard around the edges. I sent it back, and our server brought me a fresh cheese. All was well after that. We were a party of 14 and our server Branden was awesome! He handled us quickly and efficiently.

Only my second time here. I suggested to my wife we stop here while traveling since we are fans of local brewpubs. We both had the Jazzy Razzy to drink. Not the best fruit beer I've had, but it was certainly adequate. The Down N Dirty wings were very good and I would definitely recommend them. They came out piping hot and the flavor was spot on. Wife had the BLAT on sour dough, she enjoyed it and said that the bread was very fresh. The bar was quaint and the music playing at the time was just right. The best part for me was as the wife and I were sitting there she said "Good choice."

Grabbed an early dinner while on vacation. Enjoyed the decor. Dining room was nice. The standard '70s rock music was fine. We opted to sit outside since the weather was nice. I had the 50/50 burger. It's pretty hard to go wrong with a burger made w/ 50% ground bacon. I defy anyone to say otherwise. Yum! The only thing that could've made it better would've been some shrooms. I had the Red which I really liked. I'm not a beer aficionado so I can't reflect on the hoppy-ness and/or yeasty-ness, all I know is I liked it;) The service wasn't very helpful but nor were they rude. Definitely seemed like a local hangout. Would absolutely go back if in the area.

No stars is what I would give this place. I ordered a bacon lettuce tomato and avocado sandwich. It was supposed to come with chipotle mayo. I asked for that on the side because I'm not a mayo lover and I prefer to put a very little on by myself. It was delivered to the table and I asked for the mayo, but then I looked and saw it was on the sandwich already. Normally, I would scrape it off and eat it, but there was so much slathered on, the waiter took it back. All they had to do was toast another piece of bread and possibly change the lettuce. 10 minutes later I got up to speak to my waiter (he never checked back) and asked where my food was. We were going to a performance at the Pavilion and I was now going to have to eat very fast. I finally got my plate 5 minutes later. Warm bread, but absolutely no color from the toaster. The entire sandwich had 2 pieces of bacon on it, and by then the fries were cold and soggy.

I'm so glad Montrose FINALLY has a place like this. I am in love with the truffle fries. The wings are delicious. I always get the Down & Dirty ones with the blue cheese crumbles. It's awesome you can order online and then pick them up too!

Great burgers and fries! Beer was excellent, had to get a growler to go. A great find.

  • Annabelle N.

We were really happy with our beers here - I particularly loved the Jazzy Razzy. I'll admit it's not a beer for connoisseurs, but it was good enough for me to want to stop by for a growler to-go when we passed through Montrose the next weekend. Outdoor patio was nice and there was live music when we ate on a Saturday afternoon. I'd definitely recommend that over sitting inside (but if you must sit inside, sit away from the windows - there were an insane amount of flies in the window and were pretty distracting to our dinner). Food was pretty average. We both ordered burgers - nothing outstanding, but not bad either. Service was also average - we were definitely not neglected or anything. I would go here again, probably mostly for the Jazzy Razzy, but next time I'd sit outside on the patio instead of inside.

If you are looking for great food with not much service then this is the place for you. The 50/50 burger was awesome and some great brews, but it was hard to get any of that when you never see your server. I would still go back good food is good food and I love food!

Fly is correct because there were many of them around. Also paid 6 bucks for my beer that tasted like water thanks.

  • Steve O.

The food was outstanding! The service was bar service, so that means it was not so good. I would recommend that you get the 50/50 burger or their wings. But if you want something that is just the best get the pretzel and the beer cheese! Don't leave with out getting it!

  • Jennifer P.

This was my first time in Montrose, and now I will always want to come back because of how impressed I was with Horsefly Brewing Company. I had the Six Shooter Pale Ale and it was sufficiently strong and hoppy, but still very smooth. Phil's Hoppin' Wings were "I'm sorry, what were you just saying? I was distracted by the flavor explosion in my mouth" good. We were told their burgers were among their best offerings, and there were too many tempting choices to choose just one. So my co-worker and I ordered the 50/50 Burger and the Bavarian Burger to split and share. We did not regret that decision. Seriously, there were a number of prolonged not-awkward at all silences that punctuated our dinner conversation because the food was so good it was hard to concentrate on anything else. The atmosphere was just right. They accomplished the laid-back small town feel while still featuring a plethora of quirky decorations...including growlers hanging from the ceiling. The patio and beer garden outside looked awesome. Unfortunately it was 42 degrees outside, so we stayed inside. I definitely would like to return in the summer! We received quick, friendly, and helpful service. If you are only in town for one day/night, this is your place!

  • Dianne B.

This restaurant is very popular for a reason! The food was delicious! We had the Pretzel with Tabano Cheese and the Bavarian Burger. I am only giving them a four star rating because they had run out of Rocky Mountain Oysters....something we came into try.

The food was really good, but service sucked. They didn't seem to have a system in place so we sat at our table for about 20 minutes before someone even asked what we wanted to drink.

I come to Montrose 1-2 times/yr to ski & dirtbike. Been going to Horsefly since they 1st opened. They have the best food and beer in Montrose! Everything I've ever had on the menu (almost everything) has been awesome! Local owners really do a great job with the place. I wish they had as good of a brew pub where I live in Indiana.

  • Amber C.

I have been living in Montrose for a little over a year, and I am officially tired of the Horsefly. I am a micro-brewery enthusiast, and I appreciate that we have one in our town. But the beer and food are not that good. The ambiance is fine, but the service leaves something to be desired. I believe that there is hope for this establishment (they're certainly popular enough), but they need to improve their offerings. Hire a new brewmaster!

  • James T.

Born in true Colorado, rough-hewn fashion, this brew house boasts 11 taps dripping of their own concoctions. Of the four beers I sampled, all were quite good, but the seasonal Winter Warmer stood out as the best, clocking in at 9.6% alc. The others I tried were the Red, the Coffee Trader Stout, and the Porter, all of which were very tasty, but seemed to lack body. The brew-master, however, assured me it was my undeveloped taste which was lacking. He, being a Brit, a world traveler, and a beer enthusiast, nearly convinced me, yet I have had a beer or two in my time and I know my preferences. Their soup was spinach meatball, which I had never before seen on any menu. Its boast was bold, spicy, and meaty, and was paired very nicely with soft sourdough. If I were to base my opinion of the rest of the menu strictly on the soup and bread, I would say the food was very good, and far above average pub cuisine. The service, like nearly every other place I've been on Colorado's western half, was nominal. It passed the test, but left no real impression of quality. The girl tending the bar was nice enough, but somewhat oblivious to customer needs and short on professional communication. Environment always plays such a crucial role in my interpretation of flavor, food quality, and service, and so becomes the primary basis for my ratings. I must say that the ambiance was inviting and comfortable, and the music (Mighty Mighty Boss Tones, Nirvana, Beck, etc.) and volume actually suited the place rather well. One unique element of the dining room, which caught my attention, was the coffee shop-style lounge chair arrangement situated in an elevated corner of the room. This provided a relaxed feel for those who come in wanting only a drink, but not wanting to risk an encounter with a heavily buzzed bar fly. All the furnishings and wall decor created a very jovial, beer-oriented, man-cave sort of atmosphere, yet not so much so that well-dressed, professional-looking, middle-aged females were put off by it. I greatly enjoyed myself during this first visit, especially the conversation I had with the master brewer. I would offer a warm recommendation to all.

We stopped by this brewery during a quick overnight stop in Montrose. They were so wonderful and helpful there. They had a sandbox for our kids to play in while we were waiting and let us bring our dog onto the patio (even brought him a bucket of water!). Their beer is great and the kids loved their house made root beer and orange soda. My husband is still raving about the 50/50 burger - a mix of bacon and organic beef - says its the best burger he's had. Definitely visit if you're in the area.

I really liked this place, as it seemed to have a unique atmosphere for Montrose. I love beer, especially dark beers, so I was a fan of the Coconut porter and the Scottish Ale. Also, as a bacon fanatic, the 50/50 burger was amazing, as was the Bavarian burger on the pretzel bun. Of the four nights we stayed in the city of Montrose, we ate here three of the nights. The staff was friendly, helpful and engaging.

I don't drink, but I love a good burger, and the blue cheese/grilled onion monstrosity I was served was very good. The 50/50 bacon/beef burger is also very well done. Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen, but it was not overly greasy and had an amazing flavor. The truffle fries don't hurt their reputation either. Service was a bit slow, but super friendly.

The beer is really good. After getting a sampler tray, wr decided on the IPA and the Red to take home in growlers. The growlers made a good addition to our poker game. Thanks Phil! We always come here for Chicken wings. They have the best in town, They also have a 50/50 burger that is half beef half bacon. Could you get anything better? I am gluten free and they can accommodate your needs. It is hard to find a place in Montrose that can do gluten free for you without looking at you like you are a freak. Truffle fries? YES! I come here, probably too much! You can also order online to pick up. They have an amazing patio! This is one of my favorite places to eat, period.

Decent beer and patio but one of the lamest $10 Cobb salads I've ever had. Below average burger. Pair that with grumpy bartenders = Not so great. Had a much better experience at the Red Barn.

I'm so glad Montrose FINALLY has a place like this. I am in love with the truffle fries. The wings are delicious. I always get the Down & Dirty ones with the blue cheese crumbles. It's awesome you can order online and then pick them up too!

The food was outstanding! The service was bar service, so that means it was not so good. I would recommend that you get the 50/50 burger or their wings. But if you want something that is just the best get the pretzel and the beer cheese! Don't leave with out getting it!

This place was excellent we had a large group of 17 people and they accommodated us even though it was raining and we could not sit outside. The food was good for bar food and the beers were diverse enough to keep all of our group happy. The service was excellent with all of the servers helping out when needed. I would recommend for a small or a larger group

This place was excellent we had a large group of 17 people and they accommodated us even though it was raining and we could not sit outside. The food was good for bar food and the beers were diverse enough to keep all of our group happy. The service was excellent with all of the servers helping out when needed. I would recommend for a small or a larger group
