I have eaten at The Dickens many times and have always had a great experience! I always try to sit at the bar, as I'm usually by myself! This past Friday was the best ever with great Martinis, red wine and the Pub Bacon wrapped shrimp and sweet potato fries....to die for!! I also had the fish of the day which was an amazing white fish with all the trimmings! I also had the peach cobbler which was one of the best I've ever had! Compliments to the Chef and Murph and team who work one...if not the best Bars in Boulder County! Thanks again for such a great experience!!

Super duper new menu! Historical opera house restaurant, offering great food, drinks and fair prices. The competition is real on Main Street. Staff is well educated about the new menu items and have great pride in service..even over Labor Day weekend. Bacon covered stuffed jalapeño shrimp and fries with 3 different dipping sauces. Fantastic! Also serves Sunday brunch!

In short, fast, friendly service on a busy night, great burger, a pint of Guinness ... great experience. Delicious burger, cooked perfectly to order ... a "Shorty" I believe it's called (cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, and more). I generally go with a burger when trying a place for the first time ... if they can't get that right, there's little hope. Well, they got it right ... damn-near perfect, I'd say. The place was crazy-busy, and the waitress kept apologizing ... for what, I can't imagine, as she was doing a great job keeping up. The place may have been understaffed, because she was moving fast, with no discernable break in the action. I ate in the bar, which was pretty cozy. It was Friday night ... so ... a bit loud, but not enough to disrupt the conversation at the tables.

Traveling cross country with kids. Great, friendly service. Gave the kids wiki stix to play with. Food was good. Had Dickens pie, London broil and firecracker shrimp pasta. All very good. Nice atmosphere, but it was Sunday night so it wasnt too crowded. Would definitely return here in future.

This joint is pretty sweet! I got a giant cider and a three dip platter and enjoyed them immensely! The guys had beers and sandwiches (I think) and I know they were happy! Seems like it has been around for a while as it is full of personality. There is a cool vibe, a historic design, and a large tasty menu. Plus, they have a lot of Colorado brews on tap. The service was good, the parking was OK, and the prices were average. But, this space has such charm and quality goods that it is better than average for sure. The old school restrooms are neato, but not accessible and down an old narrow flight of stairs. They advertised various local events and seemed to be connected to a theater. This place was classic Colorado mountain town charming and I highly recommend it for getting some grub and grabbing some drinks!

Wow! Absolutely unbelievable good comfort food! The Dicken's Pie, Pub Shrimp & Fried Polenta were amazing! We will drive from Denver just to eat here!

Ok I travel a lot and get to experience a vast number of restaurants, both good and the not so good. With that said, I have to tell you Dickens Tavern is good. Had a party of 4 and no reservations and the place was packed. No problem we were seated within 5-7 minutes. One of our party ran a little late and the wait staff didn't try to push us to order. Ordered a draft beer and let me tell you when they brought it out, it was huge 20 oz. I had the Pub Shrimp or as I like to call it the Shrimp and No Grits. This is their take on a southern classic and it was very good. Shrimp wrapped with bacon served on a bed of mashed potatoes with baby Lima beans and green onion with a nice spicy aoli. Tasty. Understand they used to use polenta and for my taste I would go back to that or better yet real grits.

Just had a great lunch here. Ordered the cheeseburger, pork green chili and steak salad. Everything was great. Burger and steak perfectly cooked. Couple notes...The green chili is your typical pub green chili with very little pork and lots of cumin. It won't be winning any awards in new mexico but it's what you would expect in a pub/bar. One other minor issue would be their 20 oz schooner beer mugs. They seem a bit misleading as it is not much more beer (if any) than the normal 16 oz beer. Stick with the normal beer glass and avoid the gimmick. We will be back to try the Sunday brunch. Oh and the waitress was incredibly friendly...she pushed this review to 5 stars.

A very nice tavern serving pretty good American fare, originally built William Henry Dickens, a relative of Charles Dickens. They have Dickens Opera House upstairs, where they have live music shows (not your typical Opera House). It is a big red brick building, you won't miss it. Inside is big, with dark wood furniture and exposed brick wall, making that tavern feel that is warm and welcoming. The food is very big and filling, and service was friendly and polite. A great place to hang out with friends and family over a good, comforting food. Read my full review of the restaurant and food at: foodlovergirl.com/the-di…

Where do I start? I know that my expectations were pretty high for this place, considering the reviews and the fact that I was a starvin' marvin when I got here. So, I'm trying to take into consideration the disappointment factor (and not letting it skew my review overly much). But, when your table gets so many plates with the wrong food and drinks, you just can't give a place a good review. The waiter didn't seem to be listening very well; he took our tables' drink orders and unless you ordered one of the two standard drinks, you didn't get what you ordered. I'll say that management allowed us to keep the extra drink, so I still had high hopes. Then we order our meals. I know that making substitutions can be a big pain, and I understand including a small upcharge for these services. That's fine. But when the kitchen is inconsistent with their plating, it makes it seem like they were trying to hide things (like a vegetarian isn't going to notice the bits of crispy bacon hiding under her eggs?). Then they mixed up two orders (um, this plate should've had scrambled eggs, that plate should've had the fried eggs...). When the waiter was alerted to the problem, he made sure to let us know it was not his fault. That's nice, but the problem is still a problem, no? He brings out another plate for my vegetarian friend whose initial order had bacon on it. Guess what? This plate also had meat products on it. *SIGH* Owner and manager were very apologetic and discounted the bill. But the waiter was defensive and argumentative. I think maybe he needs more training for customer service skills. Arguing with customers is not the way to go. Seeing as this place is not in my immediate vicinity and the magnitude of mess ups... I'm not likely to ever come again. MAYBE it's a better experience if you're not a picky eater and you come in a small group.

Probably more like a 3 1/2, but not quite a 4. The ambiance is great, with older charm. Our server was kind and efficient. We had the deep-fried pickles, and they were good, not the best ever, but it's impossible to not make a tasty deep-fried pickle. I had the prime rib dinner, and it was pretty average. The meat was cooked med-rare (I prefer med, but it's okay this way), but just didn't carry a lot of flavor. The outer crust was not seasoned enough. The rest of the meal was good, but I really wanted the food to have more flavor.

We go here all the time, great restaurant, food and service. Last night we decided to sit on the patio. Three stars are for the noise and vehicle exhaust. I wish they would put up a tall plexiglass wall around the patio. It would eliminate both issues. It was a beautiful evening and most of the tables were empty compared to other area restaurants!

Best spot in Longmont for anything. Happy Hour from 3-7 with the best bartenders in the city (even on the weekends!). All the food is utterly delicious and the service is by far the fastest around. You won't be waiting longer than 30 seconds for a beer with Murph and Steph back there.. great place!

Very cool atmosphere in the bar area. Served several great local brews- including two on nitro. Milk Stout was excellent. The meatloaf was not special, but satisfying. The bisque soup was very nice.

Can't say anything bad about this place. Everything I've tried is good. The open face patty melt is my fave and the daily empanada dessert always great.

FANTASTIC restaurant. No Sysco food here--everything is fresh and home made. This is my new favorite restaurant!!! This is a place to bring out of town guests, have a romantic dinner or meet friends for drinks. It might be the PERFECT restaurant!

Excellent food, excellent service and a beautiful, historic building to boot! Our server, Shelby, was new here but an experienced waitress and she was great at anticipating our needs and suggesting items we'd like. The Dickens Pie is great, would suggest the small, and the green chili polenta dish is outstanding. And, you must go to the bathroom on the main floor and check out the unusual toilet. A great experience for four people from out of state!

We have hour lunches in my office. A whole hour. We did not receive our food until AFTER we were supposed to return back to our office. That's not even acceptable in a busy restaurant, and it was literally only us and one other table. Our server was really nice, but everyone else we encountered was exceptionally rude, and the food, while delicious STILL took over 40 minutes to get to us our food. Very unpleasant lunch experience.

The Super Pastrami Melt at the Dickens Tavern on Main Street & 3rd ave in Longmont. "Delicious" I couldn't finish it all! If you are visiting Longmont CO this is a great stop for lunch. Plenty of choices, great service.

Dickens is the place where everybody knows your name great drinks great bartenders great food. They even have an Irish bartender night Murph. They serve the crazy Hawaiian thing that has an egg and have a hamburger patty I love it. They have giant beer schooners for a really good price.

Sis and I went in for a burger the other night and they had some great live music playing. We sat in the back room where it was a bit more quiet. The martinis were served up perfectly (a hard feat with a couple of bartenders as judges). The quality of the food is always right up there. Their steak salad is the BEST! They've got a great happy hour. Great place to check out and the servers all are happy to be there and fun to interact with.

This is an awesome restaurant in Longmont. The wait staff has always been nice and the food... delicious. Being a vegetarian, I was happy to see a menu with some options (not just veggie salads). Good beer selection and happy hour deals! Need I say more?

I'm very excited that this location has been reclaimed by a proprietor that is clearly going to nurture this historic spot to success. The bar alone is as gorgeous as many historic Denver bars and I think it's a Longmont gem that deserves to shine. I went here with the 'rents and mini Mr. R for lunch. Overall a very nice experience. It really is a very classy space that wasn't well suited for the old Shorty's down home BBQ that used to *try* to occupy this space. Now it has the feel of a dark, classy, but comfortable spot to get a filling meal or meet some friends for drinks. I had the "lighter" version of the chicken pot pie. It was very tasty, but it could have been a little bit thicker in the pan. It came on a black metal rectangular try that reminded me a bit of a WWII hospital tray. My fork clanged the bottom as it was only about .5 in deep. Dad had the "Dicken's Pie" that he claimed was quite good. Mom had the Crab Cake hogie, and said it was good, tho the cakes looked a bit like hush puppies to me. Mini Mr R had the cheesy pasta, and I like that it wasn't kraft mac and cheese or anything. Real spiral noodles in a cheese bolognese was actually quite sophisticated for a kid meal (woo hoo!). All in all I would come back and recommend this spot. Clearly, they have a bit of evolving to do, but I love the concept and the food is just a notch or two away from 5 stars.

Great food, horrible service, every time! We eat here at least once a month, and without fail, busy or not, the wait staff neglects you, forget your drinks, etc. But the food is consistently yummy, so we keep coming back.

Straight up great food and service. I've only been in the bar area, although I can't imagine the dining room to be anything less.

After a stressful week, the Dickens Tavern hit the spot. My fiance and I enjoyed a relaxing Friday evening in the more casual side/bar. We had beer, wine, and dinner. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was great and the wait was not long at all. Additionally, the prices were reasonable. This place would be great for a romantic dinner, group gathering, or meeting up with friends at the bar. It is intimate and classy while also being casual.

We went here last week for dinner, and really enjoyed it. When you walk in, the first room has a large bar and a bit of comfy seating and pub tables which were about half full. We were a little confused as we didn't immediately see any sort of hostess or "seat yourself" kind of sign, but the hostess made her way over to us quickly and led us to the second room, which was a large, cozy dining room. The only low note of the evening was our waiter. He was nice. Really, really, too nice. He pointed out everything on the menu to talk up, finally saying that anything we ordered would be awesome. We asked him if we signed up for the VIP club if we could take advantage of the all night happy hour... We got the VIP card, but we were charged full price for the appetizer because he forgot that happy hour was all night. Whenever he came to the table, we had to fight hard to get a word in edge-wise. But we definitely will be going back. We started with the Pub Shrimp, which we only wished there had been more of. The boyfriend and I got 3 of the smaller portioned meals to share... We got the Dicken's Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, and Fried Polenta. Everything was really good, but the Fried Polenta was out of this world. Our friend got the regular sized portion of Loco Moco, which she was very pleased with as well. They have a nice selection of beer, wine, and cocktails, and we were all pleased with our selections. We will without a doubt be going back, especially to take full advantage of Monday's all night happy hour and to get more Fried Polenta. Also, a Sunday brunch is also offered that looks awesome. So glad this place is only a few blocks away!

I have been here several times for lunch and music but never brunch. This will be on our permanent rotation of breakfast places. Simply awesome! 2 dollar bloodys or mimosas + excellent service + diverse and delicious menu = best lazy Sunday place in Longmont. Try it out.

Feel that shift in the force? No? Well, you must not be in Longmont. The Pumphouse has some new competition in town. Four of us visited the Dickens Tavern for the first time tonight. This building has apparently undergone extensive renovations and the bar area should be a point of pride with the owners; it's very very well appointed and very comfortable. It seemed within moments of sitting in the bar, we had a drink in hand. After a beer or three we asked for a table and were quickly brought to a comfortable booth. Our server, Dawn, was well-informed about the menu, was funny and on top of things. Three of our party ordered sandwiches, ever the contrarian I had a chicken pot pie. It arrives in a disturbingly large pot; however appearances were deceiving. The crust was flaky and crisp; and there was a LOT of chicken in that pot pie. It was have been a very happy chicken; as it was tender and moist and perfect. Everyone raved about their sandwiches (A burger, a shaved steak sandwich and a pork sandwich). We split a banana bread pudding dessert- after one bite, I was kind of bitter about having to share it. After years of being a regular at the Pumphouse, I think I found a new favorite hangout. Great food, exceptional wait staff and a great setting. I will be back here, soon. I highly recommend The Dickens Tavern for drinks or dinner. Ask for Dawn!

I've been looking forward to trying the Dickens Tavern--a new lunch spot is always welcome in Longmont. I was a bit put off by the ambience and the menu--it seemed to me that the Dickens was trying to be something to everyone (i.e., a sports bar, a neighborhood tavern, and a live-music venue) and the menu was large but uninspired (all the usual pub grub). I fully expected to give it three stars. And then we got our food. We stuck with appetizers and a glass of wine--our usual for Friday lunch. I started with a heavenly green chili soup, that was spicy and delicious and just the right amount of creaminess (from the dollop of sour cream) and the right amount of crunch (from the tortilla strips sprinkled on top), and then ate half the bite size, crunchy and totally tasty crab cakes, saving the other half for my husband. He shared his spicy pork tostadas with me, and raved about the French Onion soup. It's a bit dark inside--I like sunshine with my lunch--but the friendly waitstaff and surprisingly delicious and artistically presented food secured star 4 for this newbie in town.

We were only there once but the food and service was great! So happy that they are making a go of it. Hope the sports bar upstairs is at least half as good!

Mediocre is the best word I can find to describe Dickens Tavern in Longmont. I guess I could also use disappointing. I knew we were in trouble almost from the start my wife's Mai Tai (not my first choice, but I love you honey) was rumless that is it had no rum in it, just fruit juice. We told our waitress who quickly apologized, snatched the glass and was off for a fresh drink, which retuned with a double shot! We were celebrating so we wanted to have a nice dinner and ordered an appetizer, a wild mushroom, creamy dip with toast points, we gave our waitress the full order which proved to be a mistake, a salad for my wife and a cup of French Onion soup for me, along with our entrée choices. 10 minutes after ordering a server appears with app, soup and salad. Okay fine not a big problem, though we would have preferred to make those two courses. The Mushroom app was very good, the soup decent and the salad garnered no complaints from my love. Five minutes later we were half way (if even that) into our first course when severs appeared with our entrees! I had ordered the Pub Shrimp plate and the lady had ordered Prime Rib. We told the servers we weren't ready for our entrees and wanted to finish what was in front of us, the smiled, said no problem and whisked away the unwanted plates, surely to sit under a heat lamp until we were ready for them. I just couldn't wait for those shrimp, which now sat for 15 minutes to show up, although we did mention to the waitress the quick delivery I did not assert that I wanted my food prepared fresh and not re-heated, I guess I could have been an ass about it. Well the shrimp were not too bad, I think the bacon wrapping them kept them happy, and the Tabasco cream sauce was really nice, a nice spice but not too spicy. I wish I could say the same about the mashed potatoes that were on the center of the plate with the shrimp placed around. They were the worse mashed potatoes I have had, s dry, lump of starch. I actually picked up the entire pile of potatoes with my fork and turned it over mid air and it just stood there, like a baseball. My wife's Prime Rib was decent although it did come with an enormous piece of fat at one end. I guess the real irony is that here an upper scale "pub" place couldn't do potatoes; her baked potato could have used a lot more baking it was nearly raw in the center. The Horse Radish that accompanied her meat was watery and without any flavor. It isn't a bad place and the food isn't bad it just doesn't live up to it's potential though the service was friendly they really need to work on timing. For me it's just not worth it to go back.

This place has gone thru numerous owners, but I'm happy to say the current owners can cook their butts off. Been a couple times in the past few months and have not been disappointed. Love the meatloaf, but pretty sure the grilled cheese with tomato is one of my favorite sammies in Longmont.

    (4)
  • Jeremy C.

This really is not my kind of food, I would never go out searching for a single dish they have on their menu except perhaps the french onion soup.... Somehow I am left confused, I love it. Why would you ever order meatloaf out at a restaurant? I make a great meatloaf, I enjoy it..... So? I would never invite a guest to my house and serve it. I was so disappointed when my fiance ordered it, it couldn't possibly be as good as mine anyway..... Imagine my surprise, there was something liberating about not being embarrassed about eating this. It is the pedestrian view of meatloaf that makes it so unappealing, this was anything but. It's like finding the perfect hamburger; it never happens, but when it does, it can actually rival the most complex of dishes. This is by no means a restaurant offering intricately composed dishes with delicate sauces. It is comfort food, and comfort food done well; perhaps so well it redefines what many of us might think comfort food is. I am a french onion soup snob, this is by no stretch of the imagination the best I've had (Go to the Rialto in denver if you want to savor this dish), but it is a very good one.... They do need to learn the techniques in preparing this that make it unforgettable. The cheese gratin should cover the entire top of the bowl, completely sealing the top where no soup flows on to the cheese, this enables you to achieve a crust. The crust should toast to a caramel brown and offer a crisp layer that you could balance a shot glass upon without it going through, underneath the cheese is melty offering a contrast to the rich broth. I always order this asking for extra gratin because so few do it properly, they were very close to how I expect it. I forgot to ask the last time and the cheese came out just melted on the soggy crouton below. Oh well! They still get my five stars, they don't claim to be anything but what they are...... They are extremely good at it!

I cycle through a few different dishes: Dicken's burger (veggie patty, no bacon), My Favorite Salad (with salmon, substitute balsamic vinaigrette for the blue cheese dressing), and the Dicken's Pie (warm, cheesy goodness). The Dicken's burger is amazing - really nice toppings of goat cheese and green olives. I've had it with a beef patty, too, although if I'm going for a real burger, I'd prefer the Dicken's High Class. The sweet potato fries are fantastic. I go here often enough that I signed up for the Dickens VIP card, which is a nice perk.

I was visiting my family in Longmont for Christmas and we checked out the Dickens yesterday for brunch. I was very pleasantly surprised! First of all, mimosas and bloody mary's are $2 each. That's right $2. For a city girl like me, this is unheard of. They bring you out a few cheddar/dill biscuits to much on while you're waiting for your entrees - yummy. My mom and I both had the crab cake benedict - a wonderful creatiion! The poached eggs are on a little crab cake (instead of the traditional canadian bacon) and english muffin and doused in hollandaise sauce. Delish! My dad had the frittata of the day. All came with some yummy crispy red potato chunks and fresh fruit. Definitely a great brunch experience! I'll have to check them out for dinner next time I'm visiting.

The four of us had dinner & drinks outside on an early Friday evening. The patio and weather were very nice but until they can discover some sort of sound barrier for the Third St traffic, we'll stay inside from now on. There were times we literally could not hear each other (thank you Harley-Davidson). The menu certainly was expansive and filled with comfort-food opportunity. We sampled the shepard's pie, the chessesteak sandwich and the grilled chicken breast. One of the chicken breast meals was not fully cooked - the staff responded very quickly, apolized, replaced both the meal and the utensils (smart) and brought a completely new meal out as quickly as they could. The food was good - I can't say that anythinged wowed us but it was as expected. No surprises are OK by me, I wasn't expecting a 5-star experience. Definitely give them a try but be wary about the patio when the beautiful weather calls you outside. We'll check out the inside next time.

Went here on Saturday around maybe 2 - 3pm for lunch. It was dead, not a bad thing. This is probably what you expect as far as feel and design of the place, dark wood, mirrored back wall behind the bar, sitting area by the window, very high ceilings. Like the ambiance in the bar area. Kind of loses it in the dining area. Just red walls in there - no real decoration. We were placed at a half booth- half bench seating. Having been a server, I didn't complain about the seating but did find it odd that the bartender/hostess didn't think to just put us in a booth. Any hoo, not a huge deal. Ordered the crab cake (yes that is singular). They cut in half and place it on a sauce and drizzle aioli on it. Rather tasty and nice and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Per the server, the owners are from Hawaii and have fresh "never frozen" fish brought in. Ordered a french onion cup - crispy croutons in it and lots of onions. Fiance had the Moco Loco that is apparently popular. We picked it because it was basically the only "unusual" item on the menu. It is a pile of mashed potatoes topped with a hamburger patty (server didn't ask for how we could like it cooked - we probably could have asked), marsala like gravy and two over easy eggs. Actually rather good. I had a steak sandwich (basically a philly without the peppers or mushrooms). Had tons of cheese and substitued AWESOME (think Good Times only better) onion rings for the fries - $1 upcharge. On the whole we like everything, except I found two small sliced bones in my sandwich. I am acutely aware of textures. Didn't ruin the meal just made me a tad paranoid. By the time we were done with an added soda our lunch meal came out to $40. Restrooms - one unisex toilet upstairs - pass thank you. Restrooms downstairs - 4 stalls for the ladies. It is down a low ceilinged hallway with sticky white tiles and red walls...red rum anyone. If this place is truly haunted this is where I would expect to meet one. The restroom is nothing fancy and definitely old.

The Dickens Tavern in Longmont, CO has it all - cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and excellent food at reasonable prices. We ordered the open-faced pot roast sandwich and the Dickens pie. Both were tasty and comforting fare on a chilly spring night. Other items on the menu looked equally tasty. We enjoyed everything about our meal and will definitely return to the Dickens Tavern.

As a non-native to Colorado, this place has some great things on tap (notably Left Hand). Nice staff and relaxed ambiance make me wanna come back here again. The bacon wrapped shrimp were okay (nothing fantastic), and the crab deviled eggs were pretty good. My Dickens burger was AWESOME. The olives were a nice salty kick, and the sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy. I'm not sure if I liked the balsamic glaze drizzled on the sweet potato fries, but I ate them anyways. I might ask for that to be left off next time. There was already a lot of tang in the burger. Coworkers loved the cheesy pasta.....and it looked so comatose-delicious. mmmm....

The Dickens is a cool, historic restaurant with a surprisingly varied and delicious menu, plus a pretty good bar scene. They took really good care of us - even though we just had a reservation for a party of 8, they gave us a private room that was quiet but not too isolated, yet allowed us to catch up and talk and have personalized waiter service. Drinks were very reasonably-priced, and menu variety was impressive. I enjoyed their pork green chili soup and goat cheese salad; other members in my party loved the prime rib, the pasta dishes, and the most tasty dish was the jalapeno-stuffed, bacon-wrapped shrimp! The Dickens in a Longmont landmark that, as a Boulder County native, I remember seeing all the time as a kid, but now as an adult and a non-resident, it's nice to come back and dine at this local spot in downtown Longmont.

I come to the Dickens all the time to eat with my family, we love the food and try to take advantage of the happy hour appetizers and drinks, half price for their Pub Shrimp is a steal! My youngest son loves the fried pickles and we all love the cheese bites. What makes this place stand out is the sauces the chef has made, the taste of the Guinness beer there, always tastes fresh and the bartenders know how to pour it, the friendly staff, and finally the smoked pork and pickled pepper sandwich! My wife loves the steak sandwich. The Prime Rib is excellent on Friday and Saturday nights!. I always recommend Dickens Tavern with confidence.

CAUTION, highly NOT recommended. Looks great on Facebook, on their website, and through their reviews. If only the service was along the same lines. After being seated in the "wine cellar" (a semi-romantic nook for two) for a date with my girlfriend, it was literally as though we were left alone in the basement cellar to ferment with the rest of the wine. Twenty-five minutes after being seated, no sign of a waiter, no sign of my water. Walked out, offered dessert coupons on the way out. I'll pass. Highly recommend you find another place to eat unless your 60 years old and plan to sit at the bar where hopefully you won't be ignored.

We had the chance to eat here last Thursday at lunch. We arrived at 11;30 and remained the only customers in the place during our stay. I had the shaved steak sandwich which is really just a Philly. For $12 it was just ok. My bitch was more with the kid meal prices. A corn dog and some fries were $7. Add $3 for a glass of milk (times) two kids and you are at $20....FOR CORN DOGS??? Add a coke and a tip we walked out just shy of $45.... My eight year old noticed the price and made a stunning observation that perhaps the owners should heed. "No wonder they don't have any customers, they charge too much." The staff were very nice and hopefully they will find positions elsewhere when this place goes down the tubes.

I had my company christmas party here and had a great time. The staff was very welcoming, and the food was very good. I was a fan of their potato salad. The atmosphere was beautiful with the christmas tree and lights. I love the history of this restaurant, I would have given 5 stars but I was disappointed that I wasn't able to take the leftovers that I had paid $800 for, won't stop me from returning though. Very good place for a romantic dinner.

We go to "the Dick" (as we call it) about once every four or five months. The service is always friendly and quick. The food is always excellent. We like it.

One of the owners of this place came to a party at my house and got her ass handed to her in arm wrestling by my girlfriend. I even won some money on it. Either way, this is a fun place, good food, good drink, good people. They have bands play upstairs on the weekends, and typical pub food and a nice bar on the main level.

On the fence between 3 and 4 stars and gave them 4 based on the taste of my burger alone. Good things: I got the Dickens Burger-gooey, yummy goat cheese, pesto, bacon and green olives-delicious! Also got sweet potato fries. I was a little unsure about the balsamic vinegar drizzle but it was interesting enough and it didn't ruin them so I'm cool. Waiter was very nice and attentive. Bad things-very slow! I believe we were one of TWO tables in the dining section and it still took 45 min to get our food. My husband got salmon and frankly it was mediocre tasting, a small portion and overpriced at $17. The ambiance could be better; the dining room is a little overlit-they have nice hanging fixtures and recessed lights as well and it's too much-not romantic at all! Overall-the taste of my food won me over; I'll be back.

This is the best bar in Longmont, by far! My wife and I live in Longmont, and have had many nights at the various bars, restaurants, breweries, and brew-pubs in the area. From our experiences I can safely say that The Dickens Tavern is easily the best as far as food, selection of beer, service, and environment. A huge perk is that the restaurant has a side patio that lines the entire building, and sits probably around 40-50 people when completely maxed out (Don't worry, it's never that crowded). They also won't mind if you ask to bring your dog onto the patio, which as a dog owner is an awesome perk (stopping for a drink after walking the dogs is always nice). Their food is quite good. One of our favorite things to get is called the Pub Shrimp. It's shrimp stuffed with jalapeno, wrapped in bacon, and deep fried and comes with a chipotle mayonnaise topping. Not the healthiest option, but no doubt...it is so amazing!. They also have happy hour options where you can get small plate appetizers for around $3 a piece, and they have an assortment of their regular appetizer items including the Pub Shrimp to choose from. Draft beer is also priced nicely during Happy Hour. If you like burgers, I would highly recommend their Loco Moco burger which is a burger topped with sausage gravy and a fried egg. (add bacon and you're in heaven, trust me!) When you bite into it, the egg yolk infuses with the entire burger, and it's absolutely delicious, a little messy, but delicious. The best part about going to the Dickens is their beers. They have the regular pint sized glasses, but you need to get their larger 20oz goblet (more for your money, and well worth it). They are ice cold, and the beer is as well, so you get a very refreshing beverage. They have many of the local brewery's beers, fantastic popular craft beers, as well as some imported options on tap. This is a great place to sit down and eat, go get a drink with some friends or your spouse, go to watch a game, or or all of the above. I'm a little biased on the bars with too many TVs. I don't like places like the Pumphouse Brewery, which is up the street from the Dickens. The reason for this is that The Pumphouse has around 52 televisions in their "Red Zone" (bar section) portion of the place, and they play horrible music on top of the noise from the TVs. The Dickens offers a much better alternative than a place like that, because they have enough inside TV's where you could relax and watch a game without all the noise and excessive amounts of people. There also is a large projector they have and a huge screen on the wall. I'm sure they use it for sporting events as well as other things.

The Dickens Tavern opened up recently in the space that formerly housed Shorty's Pit BBQ. (Shorty's, by the way, has sold its name and recipes to a restaurateur who will be opening a Shorty's BBQ Express around Francis & 11th.) The new owners of the Dickens spent a number of months renovating the historic building and we were eager to see what they had done. The bar area looks fantastic. They did a great job with the renovations in this room drawing attention to the classic architectural features of the 120-year-old space and drawing the eyes up to the very tall ceilings. When we were there on Friday night it was packed. The bar was teeming with people socializing and watching the few TVs on the wall. We squeezed through, located a hostess, and were seated in an adjoining room which seems to be the main dining area. This room was not so fabulous in its renovation. It reminded us a little of a hotel bar crossed with an Applebees. I think the booths were mostly to blame. They give the room a chintzy vibe. The menu was expansive and, as they say on their website, they aim to provide "comfort food with a twist." This translates to hearty sandwiches, pot pies, burgers, and some comfort-food perennials like meat loaf. We tried a burger (black and blue) and the steak sandwich (sort of a gussied up version of a Philly cheesesteak). Both were decent but not amazing. Most of the items on the menu ranged from $8-10 with a few entrees in the $12-15 range. The waitstaff, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, was very eager to please. We were served by the chef's wife and she clearly knows what is at stake during these opening weeks. Fortunately, the tavern is already an attraction. It strikes me as the type of place that will survive in Longmont (where the Pumphouse reigns). It is casual with little pretension. I'm happy to see any place that helps rejuvenate the downtown area and especially one that respects the historical integrity of the space. (This building is the historic Dickens Opera House, built in 1881, and apparently housed dances and vaudeville acts as well as sporting events such as boxing and wrestling.) I imagine this might be the place for me to go get a drink rather than a meal, but I'll definitely be back soon.

I really want to like this place, a lot actually. The first time I went here I was really craving a burger and that's what I got. A nice big juicy pesto joint with some veggies. My partner in crime got a burger as well, can't remember which one. It started off well, we got a seat outside right in the mix of things since it's right on the corner of 3rd and Main. The server was quite friendly and we were seated quick like. The menu is packed full of great sounding burgers, so I thought it was a safe bet. Salt city was the name of the game on their burgers. Both our burgers were quite salty and I wasn't feeling that great about 20 minutes after our dining experience. Everyone deserves a second chance right? I went over and tried just a plain ol cheeseburger and it was the same thing; salty and made me feel bad after. Point being, burgers are not the Dickens Tavern best asset. Hitting the bar here is probably your best bet, it's a lot more difficult to mess up a drink.
