I have only eaten here once, but my dining experience stands out as one of the best I have had in a long time. It's difficult to convey exceptional flavors in written word, so I will just say that the only thing that kept me from licking the plate were the other customers in the restaurant. My dinner was that good. The fish was perfectly cooked -- not overdone like so many restaurants tend to do -- with a crisp outer layer. The tomato compote was outstanding, and even the side salad and sauteed vegetables were noteworthy, no iceberg lettuce for this restaurant! The service was prompt and friendly, and the prices at City Cafe are very reasonable for the quality of food served. Looking over the menu, I was happy to see gluten-free options. Living in Boulder where you really can't go wrong in terms of restaurant choices, I still won't mind making the trip to Longmont again to eat at City Cafe. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants beautifully composed flavors on a plate. In short, YUM!

City cafe hidden in the end of a strip mall. The furniture and decor is odd and not in style. It is a senior magnet here. The place could use a make over and the name. I truly believe I was going in for Chinese food. I asked the waiter whatever omelette he recommended. The meal needs to be Carb less I explained. Wow! The cook comes out and explains she will take care of me! Her daughter is on the carb less diet! City Cafe can do your breakfast, lunch, and dessert carb less. What a blessing to those who live the lifestyle. I enjoyed my omelette and my strawberries with sugar free whip cream. They even have the low carb tortillas! 5 stars!

The place - quaint, quiet restaurant. It's worth the extra effort to find it, tucked back of a strip building. Simple decorations, tasteful. The staff - absolutely friendly and attentive. The food - some unusual and fun items on the breakfast menu. We went with breakfast simple breakfast fare; eggs, bacon, pancakes, French toast. All done just right. The kids - they loved their pancakes, the staff treated them like royalty. Summary - Great little spot worth finding.

1950's style American dinner . Good food, good service. They close at 2 or 3 in the afternoon so come early. Generous portions at a fair price. They are a little off the beaten path in a strip mall.

Friendly waitstaff, yummy breakfast food. Clearly a favorite of the senior crowd. Only complaint is the shabby state of the dining room. The carpet and upholstered chairs were old, stained, and dirty. The decor is random. It's hard to enjoy the good food when you're trying not to touch the furniture.

Incredible food. Breakfast lunch and dinner. All served all day long. This is. Hidden gem and you must go there for dinner. Phenomenal good and no waiting!

This place is lovely!!!! All I want out of breakfast, if I'm not preparing it myself, is for it to be cheap and delicious. City cafe accomplishes this very nicely. The meals are very well priced (a shrimp salad for 8$, whaaaat!!??) and the food is fresh and cooked to perfection. I always just get eggs and bacon and fruit and a pancake and all of it is cooked perfectly. Eggs aren't running like most places, bacon is crispy, a must in my eyes, and the wait staff is attentive but not annoying. Also the portions are quit generous which is rare these days. Yes quit a few older people frequent this establishment, especially in the earlier portion of the day but so what! Why would that be a negative, given your other choices in dining buddies are often college kids nursing a hangover. Gross. And despite what people have said in their reviews thus far the decor is quant and inviting. So yeah 5 stars cause I'm sick of the Buff and the college scene (and paying way too much for small portions) and their food isn't that great anyway.

This is one of those rare finds that truly surprises. It's located in a somewhat out of the way, difficult to find, really, strip mall about 1/2 a block from a 4 lane highway on the South side of Longmont, CO. It is not what you would expect to find here. But, man, what great meals. I've been going for about 2 months having both breakfasts and lunches, all have been extraordinary. This is not your fathers diner. The food is very high quality, the sauces and spices used are perfectly blended with the foods and the chef (?) has a excellent imagination and an eye for presentation that's quite delightful. It's not a cheap diner, you'll pay more here, but the food, and the service, is worth it.

I'm so surprised I had never tried this place before. This is a great "home cooked meal" sort of joint. A step up from a hole in the wall. The food was very good, like going to your favorite aunt's for dinner. The place is very very casual and certainly appeals to an older crowd both in decor and such. Everyones food was very good, I had the fried chicken and potatoes, the gravy was to die for and the salad was an excellent selection of greens, not your chain store iceberg crap. The cook certainly has some talent and really appreciates true fresh food in a casual setting. The wait staff was very polite and kind although, I think they look very understaffed should it get crowded --I would be concerned. It was rather quiet when we were there. It sort of reminds me of Mike O'Shays for level of dinner but completely out of the way, ha. This is a great spot to get a real "non-Boulder" dinner (shoot me if another fancy taco place opens) when you don't feel like cooking, a place to take the parents when they visit or take grandma out. The younger crowd will not be impressed but as a family we enjoyed the food and service. The breakfast menu looked spectacular and I can't wait to try it out. Prices were great too, almost nothing was over $12, very refreshing in Boulder County. They have breakfast all day long but I imagine some of the specials are gone early. Dessert was great too, I would say grab a piece of cake or pie after a movie too just to try it out. The Raspberry cake had this icing that was perfect, so smooth and light. There is a reason this place has regulars, tons of potential here!

Best kept secret in Longmont. Don't leave without trying the breakfast sausage.

Can anyone name a restaurant that serves toast made from home baked bread? Yeah there's a few of them...how about homemade sausage? Not too many. Well City Cafe serves both! And it's worth trying. We just found this place this past weekend and boy am I glad we did! This is a great small diner/cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. It's owned and run by a Mother/Daughter team and feels like family all around. FRESH is the common denominator here, my breakfast of eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast (the best homemade toast I have ever had) was so much better than any chain-diner...eggs were farm fresh, I love my eggs over-easy and that beautiful deep rich yolk color that runs out when you I into them proved just how fresh they were. Two thumbs up, five stars and a new repeat customer here! Bottom line it's worth going to this little out-of-the-way place.

Hit or miss. I keep going back because... Well I'm not sure. My daughter says why do you go there it's not that good. I think I want it to be the right breakfast place. Sometimes it's good and sometimes not so much. Sound system is awful. Staticky radio stations blaring in my ear. Service not so great. They are trying and hopefully figure it out. Food, when done right is quite good and unique. I'll probably keep going back but hopefully they start nailing it every time.

The service to start was friendly, fast and beautifully efficient on getting orders. We went for breakfast. My child had the French Toast with bacon and it was absolutely excellent, and the amount of bacon was really generous. My husband had the breakfast chile rellenos and really loved them. They were spicy enough and wonderfully made. I had the bacon, spinach, and spicy Mornay Benedict, and they executed it flawlessly, and the hash browns that came with them were crisp and perfectly browned. Sadly, the Mornay was a little too glutenous for me, it's a personal preference and I'll probably ask for the Hollandaise next time. The coffee wasn't quite up to my standards, however, especially the second cup, and they stopped pouring about halfway through the meal, which I thought was regrettable. There's no reason to skimp on the coffee. We enjoyed it otherwise and will go again.

Went there first time for lunch. Waitress walked by us several times checking on all the tables around us. After 10 minutes we still did not have a menu. Walked out never to return.

Great place for breakfast. I had Apache Fry Bread which has chorizo, pinto beans, tomatoes, cilantro and a poached egg on top of the fry bread. Delicious! I also had an iced dirty chai which was less sweet than I normally like but I bet a lot of people like it less sweet. Yes, the decor is somewhat lacking (it looks like what was rejected by the flea market across the parking lot) but hey, when the food is good-who cares?

We have been here for breakfast a couple of times, and each time the experience was the same. The food is decent greasy spoon fare - very generous portions. Typical breakfast menu consisting of omelets, benedicts, and Mexican-inspired dishes. Most dishes hover around 9-11 dollars which is reasonable, but not cheap. The atmosphere definitely turns me off. Someone complained that it seems dirty - and I don't really feel that way. But definitely well worn and really uncool. Ugly tables and chairs, ugly drop ceilings. It seems to cater to the elderly crowd and the old time Longmont folks. It was playing "Green Acres" and "The Ropers" on the TV when we were there which pretty much sums up the vibe.

You have to go for the fry bread. Worth the trip! And the service has always been friendly and professional

Nice homey interior, friendly service, very creative food made with very fresh ingredients and generous portions. You can't go wrong with ANY of the burgers and I'm in a quandary as to what breakfast item to pick when I go there in the morning, there are so many and they all look so good. If you're in Longmont this is the ONE family restaurant I can say you should not miss.

I can't believe that I just discovered City Cafe. This place is GREAT. Been twice now for breakfast. Their menu is solid diner type breakfast food....with a twist. First visit I had the corned beef hash. Nice big chunks of corned beef & potatoes, with eggs as you like them. Also served with irish soda bread. Good stuff. Next time was the Apache Fry Bread, which is kinda like eggs benedict but kind southwestern style, on a fried bread, with pinto beans. Yum!

I've never had a bad meal there. They have gluten free options which is a must for me. The service is quite good. The noise level is low which I really like. The ambiance is better than diner class.

We've been twice for breakfast and the food is very good. Wait time and service was better the second time so it would seem they are improving things in that area through experience. I am not a raving fan of the homemade breads - nothing bad about them but certainly not worth any great accolades either. Essentially just a solid breakfast place. We will definitely give them a try for lunch and now dinner as well in the future.

Home made bread and sausage as others have said as well as pancakes. The proprietors who ended up serving me said everything was home made and I would agree. Absolutely delicious and fairly priced I will definitely be returning many times. Highly recommended.

Based on the other reviews, I really wanted to like it here. My friend and I visited on a Saturday morning, knowing very well that it would be busy. However, our first impressions were not great. We sat ourselves (as the sign instructed us to do) at the only open available, which, unfortunately was a table meant for six. We sat and waited... and waited... and waited. We saw that the few staff members on hand were busy, but nobody even acknowledged our presence. There wasn't even a mention of, "I'm so sorry, we will be right with you." Not a peep. Ten plus minutes later, another gentleman walks in, seats himself, and his waitress gets his drink order almost as soon as he put his jacket down. I was not a happy camper at this point. Finally the hostess asked us if we had been helped yet. I told her no, and mentioned that we had been waiting for far too long. She said she would get our waitress immediately. Fine. I would have rather she take our drink order and get us menus, but we welcomed any interaction at that point. Finally our waitress arrived, didn't even apologize for our wait, and assumed we were ready to order even though she had just handed us menus. Ugh. Cutting to the chase, after we ordered our food, we felt better about the place. The food was very good. I had the breakfast tacos and my friend had the breakfast burrito. Both were filling and tasty. Worth the wait? Maybe. The cooks know what they are doing, but the front of the house needs some help. As we ate our food however, our waitress only checked on us one time. I don't know if she was afraid of us at that point or what, but we had to ask the manager for a to-go box and our bill. And that was only when the manager came over to our table and asked if she could split the large table into two so others could sit. We knew we were taking up a larger table and wanted to leave just as much as they wanted us out of there too, but our waitress just... disappeared, and we felt like the manager was kicking us out even though we were ready to go. It was weird. Le sigh, I could complain about the service all day... but the food was good and I am willing to give this place another chance. Here's hoping our next experience is better. Food: 8 Service: 1
