This was our second visit to Country Road Cafe and once again left happy and full. This breakfast spot has a large menu chock full of unique twists on your basic breakfasts. I decided to try the mossy rock omelette. Bacon, portabellas, tomatoes, basil, artichokes, goat cheese topped with balsamic-pomegranate drizzle, what evil genius stays awake at night and puts these combos together in their head. It was truly incredible & the menu is full of these types of combos. My wife had the Interlocken eggs Benedict, English muffin topped with grilled corned beef, two eggs, swiss and hollandaise. It was also very good, great flavor on the corned beef. She was also excited to hear they will be adding gluten free options. Absolutely perfect from the second we walked in the door at 7:30a, I've heard they get pretty crowded as the day goes on so plan ahead. Totally worth the short 30 min drive!

Holy cow! I am so happy we found this little gem after my Evergreen Sprint Triathlon! I was so hungry and not happy that it was Sunday...a day of crowding breakfast joints...er, I mean day of rest (even though I signed up and completed my first sprint tri!). We pulled up, put our name in, and then took a seat on the front porch. Cute little place with cornhole games for the kids out front. I don't particularly like kids, so this wasn't a plus for me. We were seated within ten minutes. Plus, the waiter wasn't weirded out when I asked for many glasses of water and something ready-made to eat because I thought I was going to pass out. He brought out a hot, gooey cinnamon role with cream cheese icing and water. I was so freakin happy! We then ordered and I ordered the lavender egg scramble which came with two hash brown triangles covered with scrambled eggs and hollandaise sauce. There were little lavender buds sprinkled over which made it taste unusual, but actually really good. It was such a large portion that I took half home. Ok, I took half home because I scarfed the cinnamon roll first. Five stars for treating the post-triathlon starving lunatic patron like I was a princess. Thank you for the great food and smart service!

This is one of our favorite breakfast stops. We've been customers for years. The menu is extensive and then there are the specials. Huge portions and staff is great. My only suggestion is to go back to the home made American fries for potatoes. Inside on a busy weekend it is a bit noisy. There's seating under a tent outside as well which is quieter.

Walked in on a Sunday morning......stood at the entrance for a few minutes, no one greeted us. We noticed a few other people standing around looking confused as well. Finally someone flew past us and told us to sit wherever. After walking through the place twice, we finally found a booth in the corner. It was the only table not taken or covered in dirty dishes. We sat for a few minutes then realized that the chances of anyone coming over were small. Dirty tables, frazzled employees, and a really weird vibe. Don't think we'll be back.

We had an ok experience when we went. The meal was huge but nothing special. The service was slow and it had a LONG wait time to even get seated. It was summer time too though so they might be less busy now. Liked it enough to want to go back and give it another shot.

Great food! Huge portions! The salad was very fresh, the dressing was not homemade though. The chicken sandwich was chock full of pulled roasted chicken; the Reuben was perfectly melty; the bread on both sandwiches was great and the fajita soup was homemade and delicious! Service was good and the place was packed!

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I would love to be able to rate the food and tell you how I felt about what I ordered, but I never got the chance. We left before we even looked at a menu because we could not get served. My husband & I moved to Evergreen with our two boys in September 2013. We had been here once previously and had really enjoyed the food and atmosphere so we were excited to share our experience with family from out of town. This is a VERY small restaurant and waiting is not unusual. When we arrived we put our name in and went to wait in the side tented patio as it was a very cold day and we had two children under 5 with us. After having waited 15 minutes a group of people came in and sat down beside us. They told the waitress, who had gone out of her way to completely ignore us, they had not put their name in. She said no problem, gave them menus and proceeded to take their order, still not having said a word to us or even looked in our direction. We checked with the front and discovered we had been passed over for two other names, in addition to the group who had not put their name in, for no reason at all, but were told we would be next. We waited another 5 minutes and since the kids were getting antsy we asked the waitress if we could look at the menu. She grabbed a menu and tossed it from about three feet away, hitting my 76 year old mother in the arm prior to it landing on the table. Not only was there no apology, there was no acknowledgement that anything had happened. Needless to say we decided to leave. My mother, who was not hurt, was simply terribly offended. My husband and I who wanted to show my parents some local charm were embarrassed at this representation of our town community. No matter how good the food may be if you don't have good service and front of house management it doesn't matter. We certainly will not be going back nor recommending it to anyone.

We met my kids who live in Evergreen at Country Road Café for Mother's Day Brunch, I was a bit skeptical as I had read some bad customer service reviews. My kids had been before and said customer service was not up to par, but they came back for the food. Much to my surprise, our greeter, bus person, and waiter could not have been nicer. I had a French toast special that was amazing. I cannot say enough about how well we were treated. If they did have issues in the past regarding customer service they are well on the way to course correcting. I will be back; they were part of a fabulous Mother's Day Pampering!

Wow! Oh my gosh!! Holy Moly! The reviews are right on, this is some serious breakfast. Nate A. and I took a drive to the mountains today and wound up meandering on route 74. We hadn't had breakfast, and I said we HAVE to go here. So glad we did, so glad we waited, and so glad it wasn't cold! But it would have been worth the wait, even if it was cold! We sat out in the patio area at a community table and the couple we joined were regulars. I love the concept of coumminty tables, though I understand, it's not for everyone. They were quite excited to hear it was our first time. They suggested the Benedicts, anything with hollandaise. I read the reviews, and had to try the Smashed Mashed, so why not with hollandaise?! My plate of decadent exceeded my expectations. I had the Sunburst Mashed, our server told us it was fairly new to the menu and is a hit. A hit it was...mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, sour cream, jalapeños, green onions, bacon, all smothered in homemade hollandaise and topped with fried onions. Insanity! But it gets better. My husband had a cheese quesidilla topped with a mountain of scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, ham, avocado, and sour cream. Ok, this is sick! (reference pictures) The portions were huge, next time I will get a half order. The service was perfect, my coffee never went cold, our server was so friendly and welcoming, we promised we will be back, although I don't know how soon, since I believe I gained 5 pounds this morning! Thank goodness there are several walking/hiking trails nearby to work it off! This is a place I plan on taking friends and family when they come to visit.

Really wanted to love this place as we had heard so many great reviews from locals. We went there for lunch on a hot day in September (80 degrees) and we, like every other customer who came in, asked to sit outside. They said they weren't serving outside so we sat inside. The tables are pretty close together and it felt airless and hot. The waitress was helpful and cheery and the chef was remarkably calm and efficient considering how busy they were. My son's fries were burned but the rest of the food was great. However, there was just far TOO MUCH of it. My plate was drowning in a mountain of bagel and sauce and fries. It was overwhelming and offputting. Unless they are regularly feeding an army of gargantuan truckers, I don't know why they overload the plates so much, it must decimate their profit margins and I am sure most people with regular appetites must leave a good chunk of it to be destined for the trash, seems such a waste...

It was a beautiful drive to get to Country Road Cafe, and it a really cute place. It looked like a log cabin, relatively small, covered in kitchy joke signs on the inside. The menu was amazing - huge diner-like and creative breakfast options. My mom and I shared "The Ultimate" (Two Eggs, Biscuit and Sausage Gravy, Home Fries, and a Jumbo Pancake) and "The Conifer Cornbread" (Warm cornbread topped with a scramble of eggs, bacon, ham, jalapenos, cheddar, chipotle cream, and pico de gallo). Both were incredible, and way, way too much food for one person (or even two people) - but that's ok, because brunch counts for two meals, right? Service was also excellent - very friendly and attentive!

So, working for Comcast for 10 years and serving that area as my location I found myself going to this cafe on regular bases. I always enjoyed the food here, but their service and attitude just sucks... I pay your bills after all, cheer up and leave your constant PMS at home for your family family members.

The best place in Evergreen for breakfast - my personal tip go mid-week otherwise you will have to wait on the weekends but if you have never been here before it is worth the wait. Every time my parents visit in Evergreen we have to have breakfast here. My personal favorite are the Benedict's. I loved the Blue Creek Benedict with avocado, tomato and bacon with of course hollandaise sauce. The portions are so huge that you can save half but the food is good it will keep you eating more. Try one of the Country Brown smashed mashed for an unusual breakfast. Who would have thought- mashed potatoes, eggs, and sausage together- I ordered it a few times and it's delicious but very filling. I don't think you will have see it in another restaurant ever. I never have. The atmosphere is cozy with country signs all over the wall that are fun to read while waiting for your food. It's small and that is why the wait can be long- they additional seating in the white tent with heaters if it isn't too cold outside. I brought two friends from Brazil and they loved it. Everyone loves this place- check it out.

I always love the food here, but I have issues with the service sometimes. Last week I only made it halfway through my breakfast (portions are huge!), so I asked for a box to take the rest home. My waiter took my plates, to box up my food, I thought. But he never brought anything back - he had accidentally thrown out all of my leftovers. At this point, it would have been nice if he offered to send me home with a fresh pancake or something (I wouldn't expect them to make me a whole new breakfast), but that was that. The service was otherwise good, so this was very surprising and disappointing.

Best breakfast in Evergreen, Morison, Golden area. If your in one of these places and you have not tried the CRC your missing out!! Just make sure you stay on the good side of the owner, he can be a bit grumpy in the morning. CRC when I started going 15 years ago was a little log cabin mom and pop shop with maybe 6, 4 tops and 2 rounds for 6. Now they have an outdoor area for overflow, for winter and summer, with benches, and large boyscout camp style tables. They have even expanded to what ends up being a bed and breakfast in the back. All this success from a little breakfast place because the food is simply, fantastic! Not to mention that you cannot leave without getting enough to eat, NASA scientists and a genius from Google proved it. The portions are ginormous, and you can add all sorts of good stuff. The service and people are exactly why I love going home to Colorado, hard working, friendly and helpful to each other. You can ask any server anything and be sure to get it. This is one of my must stop location whenever I'm back home in Evergreen, CO!!!

My wife and I decided to find out what the long lines were about. We found that the service was average and the food was nothing to rave about. The food was good, however, you can get breakfast like this just about anywhere. I didn't mind reading the signs on the wall and my wife liked the decor, but we won't make this a destination.

I had heard about the great breakfasts when I lived in Evergreen, and finally, one day took a long drive from Nederland. I ordered a dish that had an avocado spread with crumbled bacon. The dish came out with three slabs of black, burnt bacon lying across the top. I tried to get the waiter's attention for about 15 minutes. I then grabbed another service worker, and showed her the bacon and said it was not served as described. She came back in a few minutes; the burned bacon was now crumbled and mixed into the avocado, the same bacon, I presume, as it was still black. I like crispy bacon but not inedible. I again tried to gain attention of my waiter, and this time I waited longer, because I wanted to see if he ever bothered in even looking towards the back. For another 30 minutes, I watched as he chatted with tables at the front and never once saw him look toward the back. I was seated in the back of the garden, and did not mind having to share a table with others. This waiter was then a handsome, flamboyant middle-aged man. I suppose he decided that a middle-aged female doesn't tip. Some of us tip extremely well. Don't know if he had any other customers in the back, he never made it there. I finally got up and walked up to him and in a not loud, but determined, hearable voice, let him know that he had other customers, that burned and inedible food was not acceptable, that he had made no effort to give any service in all the time I had been there to anyone in the back of the garden, and that I had tried to get his attention, but he must have not interest in serving single parties. I then walked out. I don't remember what he blabbered, defensive, but certainly not apologetic. This is a long (years) overdue review, and, therefore, probably not fair now. But I am, now, 60-year-old woman, who has dined out extensively and alone for most of her life, all over the world, and this service and food is the only bad experience that seems to have lingered, the only time I ever walked out. I have wanted to try again and bring some out of state friends, but have always thought that if I walked in and that waiter was still there, any enjoyment I might have would be over before it began.

Breakfast is usually breakfast--you kind of know what you're going to get. But THIS breakfast was FANTASTIC. So many options, and ever I really had problems deciding what i wanted, but I went with the Sun Creek Mexican dish, which was a griddled corn cake topped with scrambled eggs, avocado, pico de gallo, a grilled green pepper, bacon, topped with cheese and surrounded by home fries. Holy cow, it was tasty. Yes, it was huge, but I took 1/3 of it home and had it for breakfast the next day. The flavors were spicy and delicious (with some sweetness from the cornbread), and everything melded together beautifully. My friend said she loves their Eggs Benedict, and her husband got the elk hash. Everyone loved their dishes. And we went early enough that we only had to wait a few minutes. Soooo good! I also got a delicious coffee drink with amaretto, caramel, and something else fantastic. Ooh, it was so tasty!

I think this is my favorite breakfast place ever. A bit remote, but it's a nice drive up the canyon first thing in the morning. Large portions, tasty sauces, and fun combinations on every plate. Service is fast and friendly, coffee hot and fresh, and the place is rustic as a bastard. Get the Conifer Cornbread or Sunburst Mashed for a tasty treat.

Like everyone else says: Best place for breakfast in Evergreen. You have to be careful when you come because it can get packed. The food is fantastic. You can't beat the Original Smash Mashed or any of the eggs benedicts. Or the pancakes. Eat here.

Best breakfast ever! The portions are huge but they will split it up for you if you are sharing. The menu is absolutely amazing, diverse and the items in the dishes all compliment each other. Trust the cooks. It may seem like you want them to leave something out because it sounds overwhelming but trust them, it will be amazing! This place does get packed but that's for a reason. If you want to be critical of too many servers checking on you or the waitstaff rushing try their job for a day. I'll be talking about this place for a long long time!

Breakfast is my thing, see? I check out any all forms of the morning meal and I consider myself something of a connoisseur. I do not exaggerate when I say that the Country Road Cafe just might be the best breakfast place in these United States. It runs neck and neck with Mama's Cafe in Mill Valley, CA. Not only is the food creative and mind-blowingly good (they've got a whole section called Smashed Mashed, breakfast dishes incorporated with mashed potatoes) but they are really, really nice and incredibly fast. It's the kind of place where people care - from the owner right down to the waiters and most definitely, the cooks. Well done, crew!

"Country road, take me home, to the place, I be-lonnnnnng...." not just a classic John Denver song but kind of a metaphor for the restaurant. This is the kind of place you can take anybody too and they'll most likely at least like it if not love it (unless of course you're not a John Denver-ish sort of person). My best friend that happens to live minutes away from here has been trying to get me to check Country Road out and then Jason J reminded me when he sent me the review so I took the bait... and swallowed... hook, line, and sinker.. We split the Poblano Pepper Smashed plate and the Mount Evans Benedict. Both were mountains of food and tasty but for me the Mount Evans Benedict was the easy winner. If you're the kind of eater that has to have equal amounts of say meat to bread in a sandwich, enough toppings on your pizza to get some in almost every bite, then unless you love smashed mashed potatoes I would skip the smashed plates. There was probably six thanksgiving size servings of mashed taters on the plate but only enough turkey, stuffing, and gravy for three or four... flavor was good, just not enough of the good stuff for the filler (albeit it was good filler). The benedict with the combination of brie, bacon, spinach, mushrooms, and a nice hollandaise was very tasty and served with decent home fries and toast. Cute country atmosphere, nice servers. Yummy food being served to other tables. Little old ladies and old men scarfing massive piles of food. If my mom or grandma was still alive, I would definitely take them here. Mom liked John Denver a lot.

It's true, what the other reviewers have said... Country Road Cafe really could be one of the greatest breakfast places in the entire country. Sure, people get in line for popular breakfast joints everywhere. Some people even do it in cold climates. Do they normally line up in quaint mountain towns, though? Nope... Which is how you know that Country Road is legit. Those lines on below-freezing Sundays can't be attributed to population density, that's for sure. Typically, when I see a restaurant with a solid five star rating, I'm tempted to look for something, anything to complain about... Don't want these restaurateurs getting big heads, know what I mean? Well... I can't. I can't say anything bad about Country Road Cafe. The décor is charming and kitschy, the service is attentive and friendly, and the food is perfect: the pancakes are perfect, the Benedicts are perfect, and the burritos are SUPER-PERFECT TIMES INFINITY, PLUS ONE. BOTTOM LINE: If you live anywhere near Denver--I'm talking like a 150 mile radius--you owe it to yourself to head up to Kittredge and enjoy a big brunch at Country Road Cafe.

I stopped in here to try it out and I was impressed. The place is a bit small but they have an annex for extra seating under a tent next door if it gets busy. The choices on the menu seemed to be endless. The prices were a bit high, but you get a LOT of food. Great little mountain town cafe that delivers on service and taste. I gotta come back sometime to try some of the other items on the menu, but maybe this time I'll just share the entree with my gal so there isn't so many left overs.

Decent food, if you're into an intentionally over-the-top, gluttonous menu. But last week, I had a terrible experience with a waiter. I wanted to order a special, but I wanted my eggs over medium instead of scrambled. He said there were no substitutions on the specials. Then I asked for the hollandaise sauce on the side--not really a substitution--he got visibly pissed. I said I'd need a minute to select something else in that case. He walked off and I said, to my family, "Crazy." He overheard and said, "No, it's NOT CRAZY. We've got a seven-page menu that customers walk all over every day and this is the one area where the chef gets to create what she wants." I just said, "It sounds like you're mad at me." He turned red and thought there was a good chance punches were about to get thrown. He said, "I'm not going to do this with you," and handed us off to another server. If I didn't have my two hungry daughters with me and we hadn't waited 45 minutes to get seated, we would've just left. Everyone else was very nice and the food and service were fine. Our bill had the tip included. We were a party of six, so I assume that is technically their rule, but going for a crappy little 18% tip seemed like a cowardly and anti-service-oriented way of dealing with an unpleasant confrontation. We won't be returning.

On the side of the C74 road, about half way between Morrison and Evergreen, is a small cafe with a large outdoor patio. We had just been for a hike in the Alderfer / Three Sisters park (which is also highly recommended). We decided to sit outside - the indoors part is small and was very humid. We couldn't find anything we wouldn't order on the menu, and we were warned the portions were large enough to feed a family. I ordered the prairie ridge pork tacos - three small tacos with a hunk of shredded smoked pork shoulder, topped with fried onion strings, shredded gouda cheese and a sweet onion jammy glaze. Totally awesome. It's supplied with one side - your choice of soup, salad, or two types of fries. I opted for the creamy chicken soup which would have been right at home inside of a chicken pot pie. It was creamy and had big hunks of chicken meat in it. Service - great. The staff really make you feel at home. Ambience - the sparrows and crows are a nice touch, but the road noise is a little off-putting. C74 is a busy road and a number of bikers travel along it on a Sunday, which makes for a noisy meal. In fact, the road noise is the only reason this isn't getting five stars. This is a definite must-visit-again.

Huge Portions (share for a fee) so many options to choose from - easy to satisfy every palate - even Vegetarians. Service is friendly, parking is on the street- prices are fair for the amount of food you get - expect a doggie bag! It is as good the next day! Smashed Mashed Dishes, Omelette's, Benedicts, Hash Dishes, and even your basic all American Eggs and Bacon-Sausauge - Gets busy by 9-10am on weekends so expect to wait unless you get there early - but even then its never too long!

If you're the type of person who is thrilled by sheer abundance of choices and a plate overflowing with enough food to sink a ship, you will love the country Road Cafe. That said, the quality of the food is barely mediocre. I ordered the Myers Gulch burger with bacon, cheese and avocado. The toppings were fresh, but the burger itself was somewhat dry and obviously not cooked to order (a pet peeve of mine when it comes to hamburgers). The onion rings ($1.95 extra) were probably the worst I've ever eaten. I think they were simply dunked in pancake batter and then fried to the point of being almost incinerated. The iced tea tasted like it came out of a jar. My two dining companions ordered breakfast plates and, again, the food was plentiful but considerably less than memorable. Another thing I wasn't crazy about: The doors were all open to the outside, including the kitchen doors. In the summertime, this means flies and various other insects crawling all over the food as it's being prepared. Maybe that doesn't bother some people, but I don't like it. This place is exactly what the name implies. It's a small un-air-conditioned joint out in the sticks that appears to be run and managed by a bunch of kids. If you aren't expecting much, then you probably won't be disappointed, but trust me, there are better places to eat.

I had the absolute pleasure of being brought here this past weekend by a dear friend of mine and fellow Yelp-er, Ms. Evey M. She always knows the best places to eat in the Denver area. Anyway, we had made an early start that morning en-route to our hiking destination. Since breakfast happens to be my most favorite meal of the day, I was thrilled to try out a new place of which specialized in morning meals. Since I also consider myself a intermediate foodie, I'll get right to my verdict on this eatery: Fan! Tas!! Tic!!! I am a lover of all things unusual and daring when it comes to food, so I was immediately drawn to the Mashers section of their menu. Mashed potatoes for breakfast? It's like they thought of me when giving birth to this innovative idea. Not to mention they have about 15 different Mashers options. I had the Country Brown Gravy Mashers, which consisted of veggies, sausage, eggs, and came topped with ooey-gooey strings of melting Swiss Cheese. The brown gravy was per.fect and had a lot of depth. The potatoes were smashed just right. The coffee was great and the attentiev service was appreciated. Warning #1: I requested a half-order of my Mashers and could barely finish it. The guy sitting at the table next to us had a full-order, and I kid you not that his plate could haven been compared in size to a hubcap. Warning #2: As with any place that harbors a good reputation, get here EARLY to avoid the lines (and to aquire decent parking). I've already told at least two people about this place and I have only one visit under my belt. You can be your comfort-food loving bellies that I will be going back ASAP.

My friend and I just did a trip to Colorado, and decided only to go to places Yelp suggested, SO INCREDIBLY happy we went here. It's a cute little cafe, stuffed full of people and plates stuffed full of food. You can tell it's quite the hot spot because the town is small, but there's at least a 20 minute wait. The food is phenomenal. Everything is supersize portioned, and tastes delicious. It was awesome to watch all of the plates come out to other tables, everything looked very delicious. I was only able to eat half of my half breakfast burrito. The service was friendly, everyone smiled and I was getting my coffee refilled before it was empty on more than one occasion. Simply put, a great way to start our day before a hike!

ive just read alot of these reviews and i am kinda baffled. the food here is very mediocre, it was 6 of us for breakfast today. it took a long time to get our drinks. 4 of got different types of eggs benedict...almost all of our eggs were either overcooked or undercooked..when u cut into an eggs benedict the yolk should ooze out...i told our 15 year old server that my eggs were way too hard and he took them back and even told me i had to ask for them normal style next time....how weird is this. my opinion is bad standards coming out of that kitchen.

Well I ate here for the first time the other day and had a great meal, and good service.....so today, I decided to try them again. We ordered some food to go, but when I called, they said we would have to call back at 11 to order lunch (it was 10:40 God forbid you take my order and just tell me it'll be ready a little after 11) so then we go to pick it up and hear the woman in the kitchen make a snide comment since we were there a bit early. Then we were told we could wait outside and the waitress would come get us when the food was ready (it was a bit chilly so we declined their generous offer). Just seems like they have some attitude issues that need to be addressed before dealing with the public. I'll be taking my money somewhere else from now on, since they don't seem to want me around.

Country Road Cafe is well worth the scenic, winding drive up highway 74 from Morrison. I drove past it last summer and saw a bunch of people waiting outside for a table, so I noted the name and looked it up when I got home. I've been wanting to try it out since then but for some reason hadn't made it up until last weekend. My parents were in town and we wanted to try to escape the heat by heading for the hills, brunch at Country Road worked perfectly into our day! They are only open for breakfast and lunch, closing at 1:45. We arrived a little before noon on a Sunday and only had to wait 10 minutes for a table outside in the tent. There was a nice breeze, and it was probably 20 degrees cooler than those dining indoors, so we lucked out there. The menu is a little overwhelming, just because it all looks so good! I went for the chicken fried steak, it came with a biscuit covered in sausage gravy, eggs, and home fries. It wasn't the greatest steak I've ever had but when combined with a good biscuit, gravy chock-full of sausage, well prepared eggs, and freshly fried home fries it added up to an awesome meal! My dad went with the Fireweed Benedict, it was corn bread topped with two eggs, chorizo sausage, green chiles, tomatoes and BBQ bearnaise. Very tasty combo! My mom was in lunch mode and ordered the Mt Falcon, it was grilled beef heaped on creamy mashed potatoes and texas toast, then smothered in brown gravy. Wow, this was really good too! We split a single pancake, it was about the size of a dinner plate and almost an inch thick. It was also very good, and seemed to us that it had a little bit of a malted background flavor. We took half of it home, along with some from each plate. Prices are good, portions are HUGE, and the service couldn't have been any better - super nice people! I know it won't take me a year before I get back up for more!

This café is a charming breakfast place and easily tops in the state of Colorado ... although strong arguments can be made for including Snooze (Denver) / Winona's (Steamboat Springs). Luckily we live in Evergreen and heard that ppl drive from Denver to dine here .... and I can understand why. First off, bring a jacket because it gets chilly while you're waiting outside. You can't wait inside the place because of space limitations and a fire code. After sitting down and looking over the menu, I realized I was in over my head as there were probably 5-6 items that caught my attention. I settled on the Nine Layer Omelet while my gal ended up with the Country Fried Steak Smashed plate. Portion wise ... each serving is enough to feed 2 people ... Taste wise .... Hell to the ya! Both my plate and her plate were delicious Price: $10 breakfast plates but for the amount of food you get, you'll take home 1/2 of your meal for a mid afternoon snack. Service: It's bunch of kids running the place and they were all nice and attentive. Now that we're found this place, I'd go back here twice a month ... especially since it's in our own backyard.

Great breakfast. Their Original Smashed Mashed breaki is great. I only wish we had gotten just one and split it & gotten a side of something else. Instead, we got two half portions but the have portions cost almost as much as the full portion..... Brian

The best breakfast in Colorado hands down! Friendly waitstaff, twists on everyday favorites, and mouth watering unique entrees. Try the starburst..you won't be disappointed!

Sooooo good. I have only been here once, but on a recommendation from a friend who has been here many times and says he never had anything on the menu he didn't like. Portions are HUGE, you can get a half order on some items, and the breakfast is amazing. The enclosed patio is cute and rustic. Service was very timely and prompt. I was very impressed with the quality here.

One of the best breakfast locations in Colorado if not the country. The selection is so vast and the food is so fresh. You've got to try the pancakes. Hah... they are the largest size I've seen around the world. Gluten-free friendly items as well. And the staff is great.

This restaurant is more properly called "Country RUDE". The first time I went there received horrible service-nasty rude waitress-but I thought maybe it was a one time occurence. Went back again and the service and staff were just as bad if not worse. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys friendly service.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. Great food, great people, great place. Have only been here for breakfast but I'm sure the lunch is equally good. Might have to wait a bit but it's well worth it. Large patio which is great on a warm summer morning. The portions are huge and impossible to finish, I've tried many times. Have tried something different every time we come and have not been disappointed, everything is delicious. Best breakfast place ever!

Went here for a family celebration, and it lived up to the hype.... er, for everyone's meal but mine. I ordered the Salmon Caesar Salad and was notified *while they were bringing out all other meals at the table* that they were out of the salmon. So I asked for tuna instead. I should have clarified, not tuna out of a can, which it was. Of course. All of the other food was great. Unfortunately, we sat outside under a tent on a patio and it was cold, breezy and loud Sunday motorcycle traffic driving up Rt. 74 to the Little Bear was more than I could stand. Service was odd - I don't know who was our actual waiter as we had about 7 different people stopping by our table to do 7 different things. It was ultimately hard to flag down our check, which surprised me, since there was a long line of families waiting for tables. Of course, they tried to stick me with a $12 tab for a not-salmon salad, which they rectified immediately. I'd eat here again, only making sure to order one of their fabulous gutbusting breakfasts after a big hike, and making sure that we're sitting inside.

I love breakfast and have eaten at a lot of great places. This place is truly unreal. As I'm eating the "Mashed" signature plates, I'm wondering why in the world this place hasn't been on diners and dives. My wife and friend are with me and everyone's meal is crazy awesome. Then we talk to the owner who is topping' of coffees...we ask I he is the owner to which he says, "yes, serving the area for 15 years" and we compliment him on how awesome it is. His response, one that I've never heard at a restaurant was "we serve every meal to earn your business for the next visit".

My family and I just ate here for Fathers Day. Great food, service outside was great by the young boy but then as we were leaving we were tryin to get some info on the cabins that you can stay at and one of the waitresses started screaming at us and saying they wouldn't want people like us staying there all because we asked if we could see what the cabins looked like. Apparently that was disrespectful to ask for info and she called my mom and I bitches! She has a bad temper and that outburst was totally uncalled for!! I will definitely be calling the owner about how rude she was and probably will never go back there again!

Nice scenic view, but worst food I had in awhile. Soggy french toast with no flavor, white broccoli, and poor inexperienced staff. Hopefully this review will save someone.

I saw this restaurant on yelp so we decided to check out the top notch reviews. The outside of the building is very quaint, but nothing compared to the inside, which is cute as a bug. I know that all the men out there don't think that cute as a bug is a good thing, but it is. I especially loved the smart ass signs everywhere... "We love all our customers, some when they come, some when they go." or in the bathroom..."Changing the toilet paper roll does not lead to brain damage". My husband decided to have the Biscuits and Gravy. The biscuits were dry and the gravy was "just OK for 6.25". I was hungry so I decided not to split a meal with my husband. Boy was I mistaken! I could have split the serving with 2 other people. I had the scrambled eggs, spinach, bacon, cream cheese, and hollandaise sauce over mashed potatoes. This meal is Lumber Jack sized, and a big boy to boot! It came with multi-grain toast, which I slathered with (my favorite) blackberry jam. The toast was excellent. I even tried to find out where I could buy some of the bread. They said it was a commercial bakery. Loved it! Unlike my husband I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I did share part of my meal with my sister-in-law, who came late. They charged me 2.75 to bring an extra plate to share my over abundant portion. They were a little slow on the water, but would come right away when it was pointed out to them. The bottom line is, huge portions. You won't be leaving hungry. Order the smashed potatoes with various toppings, and be prepared to pay a little extra to share your food with someone else in your party. The ambiance is country log cabin cute. The restaurant is right on the main drag in town .Great location near the creek.

You may have to wait outside for a table, you may feel a bit crowded once you get a table but it's all worth it! The Smash Mash is the reason I go back, but everything else is just as tasty. The menu includes anything you could ever want for breakfast, plus some. Everything about this place is friendly and fun. If you happen to have boring company, there are plenty of fun signs hanging on the wall to occupy your mind. And just as in every meal you will ever eat, afterward you will have to poop. ENJOY! love, Penny and John Fred :)

Holy jebus do I love this place for breakfast. I can't comment on lunch because I have never been but WOW do they do breakfast and do it well. First understand that you will most likely have to wait for a table but know that it is worth the wait. Second, you can sit at the community table if your party is small which will make the wait shorter and the dining either more interesting or really uncomfortable depending on who you have to sit with. I have been to this place at least 10 times over the last 2 years and it is always good. I have never once been disappointed or felt ho-hum about my food. They have nearly 10 different Eggs Benedict options (it's my mom's thing). For me they have "Mashers'. Have you ever had mashed potatoes, brown gravy, veggies & cheese for breakfast? If your answer is no then you need to change it to a yes as soon as you possibly can. They have pancakes that are larger than most plates. This place doesn't make big portions to try to make up for a lack of taste or quality... they truly have it all. The service is fantastic even though it's packed full of people. The coffee is always fresh and doesn't taste burnt. Go there!

This place was really disappointing. It is extremely small, short ceilings, cramped eating space...which is all okay IF the food and everything else you got to go through is worth it. There were 4 of us, none of us were impressed in the least. And with it being so small, you have to wait outside! They said it's a fire hazard to wait inside, and it was raining and cold, and my elder parents even had to go out in the front. Terrible business, they then seated us in their supposedly heated patio, which was very cold and a horrible atmosphere, like the rented inflatable temporary bubbles. We then asked to be moved inside, and the owner seemed very inpatient and like we put him off for asking to be moved inside when we were told it was warm on the patio. I reminded him my parents were 90! He didnt seem to care abit, sarcastic and rude beyond rude. I've rarely seen an owner or manager who had such coldness to his customers. If this guy can stay in business with the attitude he has AND the very mediocre heavy food they serve, I'm surprised. But seems they do well., maybe because it's one of not too many breakfast places in the canyon, I have no idea. We won't go back, that's for sure. Super disappointing. The food stunk. The attitude of the owner/mgr stunk. Too bad they aren't more pleasant to their customers. And the food may be large portions, but heavy and extremely mediocre at best. The green chili was one of the worst any of us had tasted. The potatoes were over done and bland. It was a poor experience overall.

Wow, that place has amazing breakfast. Had the most delicious and huge strawberry pancakes (even better than the Southside Walnut Cafe in Table Mesa) this morning. They have lots of interesting takes on standard breakfast fare (10 different Benedicts and at least 5 French Toast offerings) and the portions are large. Dont miss it, stop on your way up for a hike, it will keep you full for hours.

Wow! We ate breakfast here today, Christmas Eve, and it was awesome!! We sat in the heated, enclosed patio area and enjoyed a true Colorado mountain experience. The service couldn't have been any better! The servers were friendly and very quick to take care of everything we needed. The food (and there was a huge amount of it) was delicious! Most of our party took home 1/2 of their food. They have a great selection for breakfast! We definitely will be back!!

Absolute heaven for breakfast/brunch. I have never had a bad meal here and we go a couple times a month as we are lucky enough to live only 15 minutes away. This is a popular place especially on the weekends! Serious breakfasts that will last you all day! Try one of the smashed plates...yum! Although it is always busy, we have never had poor service and in fact, the waitstaff has always been friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. Highly recommend and well worth a drive up to the foothills!

If you need a breakfast that will last until dinner time..and not just good...GREAT!!!!..then ya gotta travel up Hwy 74 to Kittridge to the Country Road Cafe...You could take hours at home to try to cook up as much grub as they will set in front of you here. If you love blue berry pancakes.. you will think you died and gone to pancake heaven...just the plate of two will do and you will be take some home too...every thing in this place will rock your belly and blow yer mind...Best bet is to go on a week day morning so you dont wait in a very long line on the weekend..Lovin the bugers and sandwiches as well...very cool folks with the winng attitude that makes this a sure bet and you will return many times cause once the Country Road Cafe gets in your blood...you will need many many transfussions...bring a couple of friends at a time cause there aint much room for groups of 4 or more...but that will give you a great excuse for return trips...like you will need a reason after you try the food... Is it breakfast time yet???????? meet ya there.. breeze

My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant while we were house hunting. This has to be one of the the best breakfast places! They have the most creative menu that I have ever seen. I love their Cheeseburger and Fries for breakfast. It is a huge bowl of shoestring fries topped with a scramble of eggs, ground beef, onions, peppers, tomatoes, bacon and cheese! My other favorites are Country Fried Steak, The Geneese Benedict, Huevos Rancheros, Troublesome Gulch and Holy Cow. I wish they made the Holy Cow in a half serving....It is so huge it makes you say "Holy Cow!" as they carry it out. :o) They could always call the half serving Holy Calf. Get it Half....Calf... Is that bad? hehehe

I had the pleasure of meeting a friend at Country Road Cafe today (with our three boys). The log cabin atmosphere is homey, they have a wonderful patio, are very family friendly and serve delicious, stick-to-your-ribs breakfast and lunch items. I tried the ultimate biscuits and gravy - the aforementioned b&g with two eggs, home fries and a pancake. I especially loved the chunky sausage gravy and the huge, cake-like (yet light) pancake. My friend got one of the benes, which I tried (of course) and found it to be delicious - poached eggs, sausage, muffin and a chipotle cream sauce. I also want to go back and try one of their mashed potato breakfasts - I'm eyeing the one with mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak (of course), corn, peppers, eggs, etc. Sounds like a heart attack that is calling my name! Burgers, fries and salads all looked solid. It's a casual place with a good vibe; head up the mountain and check it out! (Open only until 1:45 pm; closed Mondays).

I went here with my husband for lunch and wish I would have ordered breakfast. I ordered the patty melt and asked for it to come with 1000 Island Dressing (like most patty melts come with) and the waiter said, "no problem". Our meal came and he said no 1000 Island. I wish he would have told me because I would have changed my order. The Patty Melt was pretty tasteless and the pasta salad that came with it was swimming in grease. I asked to have something else like the chips and for them to take my plate and give me a clean one as the patty melt was soaking in the oil from the pasta salad. They took the plate, gave me a clean one and charged me for the chips. Don't most restaurants give you something else especially if you don't like something and send it back? I am super bummed we didn't order breakfast for lunch instead because everyone else's food in the restaurant looked good. Inside tip, don't order the patty melt! Don't know if I will go back due to the treatment I received.

Yes, everyone else has it absolutely right on! I love the Country Road!! I live only 5 minutes from this place, and every opportunity I get to go here, I do! Being pretty particular about the food I eat, I don't say that a place is GREAT, unless it truly is. This place is better than GREAT, if I could give it 6 stars, I would. If you're anywhere in the neighborhood (or not, it's worth the trip up the hill), you should definitely go here. I've eaten here at least 20 times, and every single time, the food is fresh, hot and delicious. They always use seasonal ingredients, so the menu changes often. The usuals are always on there though, and always good. The plates offer a "gourmet" feel, with a variety of different sauces used on their omelettes, breakfast burritos, and "smashed mashed" dishes. Things like chipotle, red pepper, shrimp, avocado, prosciutto, chicken breast, etc. are used, and used correctly. I hate those places that try to use fancy ingredients on their menu, and it turns out all wrong. Definitely not here, they've got it right for sure! I always recommend this place to anyone visiting from out of town, and anyone else who just wants a delicious, fresh breakfast.

This has to be one of the best breakfast places in CO...hands-down...and we are SO lucky to have it in Evergreen/Kittredge! All the wait staff are wonderful, the menu is a-mazing, (order off the seasonal special menu if you can!), the portions are HUGE - if you order the pancakes, plan on sharing them!, and leave your comfort zone and order something you wouldn't ordinarily get! Just be warned...the lines can be LONG on weekends, and they close at 1:00.

Hello, wayward travelers!!! So my travels with D'Brickashaw, the Food Loving T-Rex, brought me west, because I plan on relocating to this area to start anew and be closer to the one that holds my heart. Swoon!! So...like any good and awesome person, she showed me around to the local eats because yes. On top of that list was Country Road Cafe, because she had ate there before and loved it and also because the drive to get there is a whole bag of yes and kittens. I'd honestly give the drive there 5 stars because it was breath-taking. I don't think I can make a category on Yelp for that but just know that I recommend the drive, on it's own merits. Now on to the foods stuffs. So pulling up to the place you take notice that is does fit the area. It's nestled in on the side of the road, surrounded by lovely scenery and some civilization. It honestly looks like it belongs there and should never exist anywhere else but that specific spot. Walking into the place we were greeted with, what seemed like some tight quarters, as the place was busy. The interior also fit the general aesthetic, though. I looked like a hunting lodge or something you'd see in some old timey mountain adventure movie, where the heroes gather before being eaten by a yeti or something. So I was popping in there and I thought we were gonna either have to wait for ages to be seated or be crammed up against some other family. Luckily they asked us if we wanted to dine in the enclosed patio that I actually mistook as a beer garden or smoking section, as we first walked up. Turns out it's a climate controlled tent/patio thingy that serves as an extension of the restaurant. It was spacious and clean and all sorts of ready for us to take some food to Pound Town. Now I was forewarned, by my lovely Guacmate, that the portions here may a bit...huge. Especially when it came to the creations called "Smashed". I said bring it. I want none of this "half servings" that they offer. Impregnate my face with the most food!!! The menu had a wide assortment of very enticing options to make sweet love to my mouth with. I actually had to juggle a few options before I settled on my final choice, The Sunburst Smashed. Now here's what a "Smashed" is...it's mashed potatoes. A big ol pile of mash tatoes, all smothered in warm, hot love. They have a good many options and all sounded like moist makers to me, except that most had meat on them and I would have to exclude that. The Sunburst only required me to hold the bacon, which to some would be considered sacrilege, but...yea. But minus the bacon, it came piled with the following: scrambled eggs, jalapenos, crispy onions, green onions, a sweet and tangy pepper glaze drizzle, hollandaise, and cream cheese. I'll touch on that cream cheese in a sec. I got it with some rye toast and within, what seemed like a very short wait, my Guacmate and I had our piles of food. I have to say, the service was on top of things, from start to finish. So swiftly delivered food was on the mark and...oh what food was delivered. I lived up to the portion sizes I was foretold about. This was very acceptable. Tyrannical laughing acceptable. Gwahahahahaha!! By first glance it looked like they place prided itself in excess and it was on display with the flavorful and puffy mashed tatoes and all the drizzles drizzling like a beast, but this excess is where I find my one little gripe that I noticed in my plate and my Guacmate noticed in hers. This would be the cream cheese, or as we noticed, the block of cream cheese present in our food. Now, I love cream cheese. It owes me money but I still love it. But there is such a thing as too much cream cheese. Too much cream cheese can ruin stuff. Take sushi, for instance. Every get a Philadelphia roll that went overboard on the cream cheese, so much so that it dominates the whole roll. Hell, any roll with cream cheese could suffer from this fate of uber-cream cheese! So to say that the cream cheese stood out in all the other intense flavors says a lot. I mean, digging into the platter, you could see the thick layer of cream cheese in there. A thick layer. A few healthy slices off the brick, thick. It was just a bit too noticeable, given that there were so many other flavors at play. Now...did it ruin my meal? No. It didn't. It was a minor gripe because the rest of the flavors were legit and my Guacmate was super happy with hers. I was satisfied with what I was given and with the service provided. It was all punctuated by location and feel the area had. I can't say that all was perfect because a minor gripe is still a gripe, but will I go back again?? Uh...shyea. I'll let this place load me up for adventure, often. There are still many other things on this menu, I would love to explore...like this ginormous pancake I saw this one dame eating...it was a manhole cover and I wants. I recommend all visit during their travels west. Eat up, Minions!!

I had lunch here this past Saturday and the food was good, but the service was great. I had a turkey sandwich and curly fries along with water. The portions are really big, so get ready for some calories. We also had a cinnamon roll and tea for lunch and it was pretty good. All in all a neat place to stop by for a meal and I don't believe that you will be disappointed.

Really enjoyed this little place! My boyfriend is from Evergreen and raved about this restaurant do we had to go there while we were here for a wedding. The meat lovers' breakfast burrito is bomb.com and you need to try it at least once in your life. The giant cakes are really good as well and you can customize it by adding mix-ins to the batter. I loved all the signs on the walls and they provided a great deal of entertainment while you wait for your food and some are great conversation starters!

"IF NUTS COULD FLY, THIS WOULD BE AN AIRPORT!" A few of us came here New Years Day, hungover as shit. We took notice to the terrifying animatronic deer on the patio that sang ZZ Top and told really shitty jokes while we waited to be seated. Only about 10-12 tables in this place, so be prepared to wait 30-45min if you have a group larger than 4. Extremely large portions! especially when ordering from the very unique "Smashed" section of the menu: about a pound and a half of mashed potatoes covered with a bunch of eggs and anything from hollandaise to green chile. Needless to say a good hangover cure! If you ever find yourself in this bumfuck town that may be on par with Ideldale.... would recommend.

I hate having to write a review like this because there is potential here, and I've gotten different results at different times... But if it's not a consistent restaurant isn't not a good one. The food has been good at times and other times it's been pretty awful. A really overcooked rubbery put roast is the last violation. (Pot roast is cooked that way solely to make it tender) and the service is... well.. amateur. Couldn't go over all the serving violations but a lot of waiting, and not by the waitress. Had to get up for a refill twice. One should never pick up, or look at, their tip in front of customers (how rude!). I will say that the window offers an amazing view though. Probably the one thig this place can't goof up. The stream goes right under the place and comes the other side.. Neato. It may be worth a try if you are into gambling.. When it's good, it's really good though.. Serious! The dice is in your hands!

The BEST breakfast place IN COLORADO. The portions are out of this world. The food delicious and the service fast and friendly. There is always a wait tho because there aren't alot of seats, its a tiny place. But I guess because the food is so darn good. I always wind up getting the same thing because I love it. Oh, and the pancakes are the size of a plate. People are always talking to each other because they are in disbelief of the portion sizes. At least those that are first timers. Great location, just wish it was closer. This is my most favorite place to eat.

Love love love this place! Their benedicts are my favorite.... especially, the benedicts that come on the potato pancakes. I love the location of the place too. It's in a cool little mountain town setting. The service is quick. The kitchen's attention to detail on the plate always impresses me. My dish always comes out looking so fancy. The dishes are creative while still capturing all the things that make brunch fun and special.

I recently went to country Road and I will second the fact that they offer really bad service and overpriced food. They have the same quality of food as at the breakfast king in Denver, denny's or quite possibly the prison bus. This is the place that only yuppie california esque yuppies (that are infecting Evergreen) would like. Paying for denny's quality with prices found at french restaurants. Restaurants in Baghdad and Fallujah had better gruel!

Country cabin dining...inside or out. But be ready for mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs...and lushly plump cinnamon rolls. The hash brown bowls, are ginormous - individual entrees is best for smaller appetites. A loving staff that cater to your meal experience. Park and enjoy

We ate here multiple times (one advantage of staying at the Cabins) and weren't sure what to expect given the very polarizing reviews. I would say it was a mixed bag. There are lots and lots of choices, some components of some dishes are excellent, but then others are a let down. We tried the cornbread french toast with cream cheese - the cornbread was dry and cut way too thick. It also had half a pack of cream cheese on it, so sadly the dish was too dry and cloyingly creamy. The corned beef was very good (we tried the hash and the benedict). The pancakes are excellent - I recommend adding raspberry and almond and holding the powdered sugar (it causes the syrup to run off the pancake and who needs that!) The hashbrowns are Sysco/store bought deep fried squares of potato - the "potato cakes" which I was really looking forward to are just the Sysco/store bought triangular hash browns and were super greasy. The service on all visits was very good - but the place was not busy (as we went early) and didn't bring in our own beverages (which would seem to start a firestorm/argument!) I would be willing to try the "smashed" potato dishes, but I am concerned that again it wouldn't be anything home made sadly.

My friends and I commonly refer to Country Road Cafe as "Magic Breakfast". I am an avid breakfast fan and these guys crush it. The service is fast and the food is out of this world. I'll drive from Boulder just to eat here. Go to Country Road Cafe, you won't regret it!

Food is great and lots of it! Only bad thing is they get really busy on Mother's Day or on weekends. Have had to sit in overflow area which is basically a large tent next to main building . They do have a couple commercial type heaters but when was there last in winter it was quite cold in tent!

Drove an hour to eat here, refused service because they wouldn't let us sit outside on the patio with our dog. My first experience was great, though we'd waited a while, the food was good. This time we didn't even get welcomed. Very disappointing.

This place would offer a pleasant dining experience if it weren't for the mediocre service. However, there are some positive points which I'll note in this review. Country Road Cafe provides a cozy ambiance with a small, rustic cabin for the main dining area. In addition, there is also a tented, larger dining space to the side of the building for those less inclined to wait long for a table. The menu reveals a rather large selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from. I personally selected the elk sausage mash which contains scrambled eggs, peppers, mashed potatoes, and it's namesake: elk sausage. The dish comes drizzled with a generous portion of hollandaise sauce and jalapeño jelly which creates a delightful blend of savory and sweet. Despite the excellent fare, I found my service less than satisfactory. My server was mostly negligent on maintaining our drink refills and checking up on us in general. Even when he took our check we waited a full ten minutes for him to return with barely an apology. On top of that, he seemed rather standoffish and almost annoyed that when we bothered him for drink refills and napkins. Not once did he even try to smile. Overall, our experience wasn't too bad considering our server's lackluster performance. The food, at least comes highly recommended. I'd probably be willing to return provided I don't get the same server.

This is the most dog unfriendly place I've ever been to. On a hot day they would not let me tie my dog up anywhere near the patio, not even to a telephone poll maybe 20 feet away (that was probably not even on their property). 2 different unfriendly servers chased me away when I had my dog on his leash. I had to leave him in the hot car with the windows cracked. No apologies, no 'what a cute dog, sorry', just 'you can't have a dog here!'. Add to that the high prices, and I don't plan on going back. $11.25 for a burger, nearly all breakfasts are $10-$11.

Rudest service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. EVER. Part of our party arrived before the rest, so we put our name on the list and were told we'd be seated when the rest of our party arrived. OK. Rest of the party shows up and when I let the "host" know (mind you, he appears to be a 14-year-old kid), he said we'd be seated AFTER several other parties that came after us because we were only "a partial" when we checked in. Huh? So, we wait. And wait. It's cold outside and my friend has her 4-month-old with her. There's nowhere to wait inside, but I can see at least 5 tables open in the "patio" area (which is basically a tent with picnic tables and outdoor heaters), which is where they said they'd be seating us anyway. I went inside to ask if we could wait at one of those tables rather than out in the cold and a blond woman working by the cash register (presumably the manager) literally yelled at me, without making any eye contact, that if we didn't like it we could either wait in our car or get food to-go. REALLY??? I wasn't demanding we get served at that moment, just that we were able to wait somewhere that wasn't freezing cold. How is a car an option when we're waiting for our names to be called??? Finally we get seated and the waiter was rude and the food was just so-so. I ordered one of their "smashed" items. The majority of the ingredients were severely lacking, so all in all it was mostly a pile of mashed potatoes smothered in what they call "hollandaise" sauce. Whoopie. I will never go back. I believe other people's reviews here about the rude service and crazy management 100%. I won't give them another opportunity to treat me so poorly.

My friend and I headed to Kittredge to try out this little gem last weekend, and I have to say - I was not all that impressed. The place is adorable & the location is extremely quaint and inviting; however, the food was not outstanding & the service left a lot to be desired. I had the elk sausage hash, and I would not recommend it. The portions are incredibly large (which is great), but the hash itself was too salty and the sauce on top was overwhelming. It tasted like spaghetti sauce and over-powered all the other flavors in the dish. Our server was quite unfriendly and when I asked what he would recommend off the hash menu, he seemed a annoyed. I think I might give this place a try again solely based on all the positive reviews. There must be something to this little cafe, even if I haven't found out what that is quite yet.

Wow! Surprised at some of these reviews. Food- amazing! Lots of unique dishes to choose from and the smashed mashed meals are to die for. If you don't get a smashed meal while your here you will be sorry. Every time I am tempted to try something someone else gets the smashed mashed and I end up eating half of theirs lol. Not to discredit the other options they are still great too. Service- service could be better a bit. It looks like it's probably locally and family owned and ran. Also looks like young high schoolers doing a lot of the serving work on the weekends so not much to be expected there. Experience- great drive with scenic views on the way up. Good mountain feel with some dishes offering elk sausage and country styles. Amazing food. One of the top breakfast places I recommend in Colorado!

I have been a fan of Country Road for over a year and have been there several times. I usually order the Green Chile Hash or the "Smash" items. The portions are very generous, but a tad pricey. I have had really good service, but there have been a couple of times the service was very poor. The last few times have been great and have had prompt service. Next time I want to order the enormous pancakes or the french toast. I would recommend them to any of my friends.

Absolutely wonderful breakfast! Huge portions, fast service and good coffee. After a morning of tubing this was the perfect spot for our recovery.

Order take out. Then you can split without paying the share charge, avoid the rude service and long lines. The only snag is that you'll have to put up with the bitchy blond manager whose pregnancy hormones are getting in the way of being pleasant to her customers. Oh, and you will be told to "wait outside, just like everyone else". She puts the "Count" in Country Road. Gotta give 'em credit for consistency. Being rude!

Cute, cabin-y and yummy food. Went with Mike E. up to the Country Road Cafe a few weeks ago and had a great time. We went after the rush, but unfortunately the restaurant was having some water issues that day, but luckily we got our order in before they ended up closing. Our server was super nice, and you could tell he felt bad that we were a bit rushed, but the food was great so no biggie. The menu is huge and everything looked great - I ended up going with the country fried steak under the original breakfasts and it was a home run. Prepared really nicely, huge portions and overall a tasty winner. I'd definitely head back - it's a nice drive out of town and there's lots of parks and stop offs on the way to and from. Hoping to bump it up to 4-stars after my next visit, but for now this place is A-okay.

Stopped there every Sunday morning when I used to work in Evergreen and it is amazing. The food portions are large and the employees are very friendly.

Oh baby. I was so excited for some mashed potatoes dressed all fancy. And to be honest, they were good. I had the bacon and pork covered in hollandaise and a sweet drizzle. Personally, I could have done without the drizzle, but they were still fine. My biggest problem was the service we received. I was with a friend who has many dietary restrictions due to allergies and could not order a majority of the menu (she can't eat eggs or dairy). She ordered an item and ask our server if since she was allergic to cheese, hollandaise and eggs, if she could have brown gravy instead. Our server did not point out that there would be any kind of substitution charge for this, but instead just charged it. To be fair, there is a tiny line on the menu that states substitutions are not allowed...but it seemed a bit crazy to charge her additional money, when she was asking to have a huge majority of the meal entirely removed. Then, when we went to pay, we were splitting checks. I was the last one to pay at the register. I was confused when my bill was over 2 times what I ate. Now, I know my friends wouldn't leave me to pay for portions of their meal, so I asked to have her recalculate it. She was very young and very nice, but she became flustered. Perhaps because another server came over and was pressuring her to figure it out. The other server became involved and wouldn't listen to what I was telling them...which was that my other friend had paid in cash which they did not account for. She turned to the manager (same manager who did not let my allergy-plagued friend substitute gravy) and yelled that I "did not want to pay." Which I guess was true to some extent...I didn't want to pay for something that I didn't purchase, but I did want to pay the correct amount! I'm not a thief! While the food was pretty good, I wouldn't come here again solely based on the treatment my friend and I received.

Multiple BAD Experiences equals Never Going Back! The Country Roads Café used to be a good place to eat, but now the food quality has deteriorated, the prices have increased, and the service is deplorable. One of the underlying problems is there are a limited number of restaurants in the area, so this place is busy. As a result, the staff and management seem to have lost sight of how to treat people. To sum up my experience, they are rude, unfriendly, and truly don't seem to care if you are happy or not. In fact, if you express displeasure, they may opt to refuse service, tell you to leave, or as I read in another review, ask you to step outside to settle matters. Today really sealed the deal that we will never step foot in this place again. Our extended family (8 total) waited to be seated for a long time, even though there were many empty tables. This wasn't a problem for us, as we were just talking outside in the parking lot, since there is no indoor waiting area. While waiting , my wife was drinking bottle of green tea. When they finally called our name to be seated, she brought in the green tea bottle that she was just finishing. She told the waiter that she was just finishing and that she would like a coffee. The waiter left and came back 30 seconds later, with his hand outstretched, demanding that she hand over what was left of her green tea. There are good ways to convey a message and bad ways. This guy was intent on embarrassing her as he demanded the bottle again, while reaching for it. She said, I will finish this right this second or I can run it out to my car. He said she would have to take it outside right away, so she did. Before returning to the table, she discretely asked to speak to a manager simply to share the fact that the waiter behaved as if she was a criminal and embarrassed her in front of everyone. After speaking to the manager, she returned to the table. Shortly thereafter, the waiter came to our table and told us they would not serve us and that we needed to leave immediately. There were looks of disbelief on all of our faces as we left the restaurant. We went to the Bear Creek Restaurant, which is also in Kittredge. When we sat down, we were talking about what had just happened at the Country Roads Café. The funny thing is, there were several other parties in that restaurant that overheard our conversation and started chiming in with horror stories of their own. One party said the Country Road Café has a reputation of treating people poorly. He said, as long as they have a line at the front door, they will likely continue to treat people this way. On a side note, the Bear Creek Restaurant had better tasting food, it is less expensive, the staff is good, and our table overlooked Bear Creek. In November, I took my Mom to the Country Roads Café for her Birthday. The food took a very long time and it came out cold. We ate it anyway, without complaining. We were paying our bill and chatting for a few minutes preparing to leave, when the waiter told us in an unfriendly manner that we needed to leave. We have felt pushed out of this place on other occasions, as well. I guess funneling in the next person is more important than finishing the current patron's experience on a positive note. If you are feeling good and want something to bring you down, eat at Country Roads Café. If your experience is like mine, you should be prepared to wait for a table outside in the cold, do not complain about anything at the risk of being asked to leave, and when you are done eating, leave immediately or you will be asked to leave.

My wife and I own a 2nd home in Conifer and we have eaten at just about every place in the Evergreen, Conifer, Kittredge, Morrison area. We will never return to the Country Road Café. I almost came to blows with the owner over "easy salsa". My omelet was swimming in it. He accused me of trying to stiff him out of a $7 breakfast, which I never suggested for a single moment. Words got heated and if I had not been entertaining clients at the time, I probably would have gone outside with him as he suggested. I believe his name is Larry. Larry is an a-hole. I don't care how good the food is, no one should be subject to an owner wanting to take you outside to kick your ass over salsa. I've actually considered looking into buying the property just so I can evict good old Larry. Every single word in this review is true, and anyone who was there (the place was packed) can verify.

Best breakfast place ever! I'm tempted to give it 1 star just so I don't have to wait in line next time. ;) Weekends you will wait, so call ahead. Winter hours were posted as closed Monday and Tuesday. Also they close at 1pm ish. I'm addicted to fancy or unique eggs benedict, and they had like 15 kinds! First time I went it was on a weekday around 1130am. We were the only people in the place. The food was FANTASTIC. I got the very last benedict. Potato pancake + Cream cheese + Sage sausage patty + Poached egg + Hollandaise + Blackberry Coolis. It was AMAZING. Came with potatoes too. Went back with friends on a Saturday, we called ahead. Waited maybe 10 minutes. I was a sucker and got the same thing (shame) and was actually not as good as the first time. less sauce (i asked and got more) and I may or may not have been missing an egg, but I didn't say anything because I was half done and who knows it could have slid into my other bites? Go during the weekday for the optimal experience. My husband got the elk sausage skillet... it was awesome.

WoW! Read all the bad reviews about this place. Multiple bad experiences and I will not be going back. Rude employees, expensive breakfast, awful service and forced group billing. Spend your money somewhere where it'll be appreciated.

I'm new to the area and found out about this place from ppl at work who all grew up here. I'm sooo glad I did. Great bfast joint. I hear the wait is really long sometimes and I see why. We got a table right away tho. Everyone leaving this place had a to-go box. Portions r huge. They don't even call them pancakes. They callm cakes. Sausage gravy is great and the biscuits r too. That elusive 5th star b/c no Bloody Mary's. Food and service excellent. The menu is big don't forget to order

If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. The portions are huge and the food is fantastic. The menu is huge and has something for even the pickiest eaters. We will be back most definitely! The only downside to this place is the lack of space and parking.

The Ladyfriend and I decided that we wanted to find a cute little mountain spot to go for a Valentines Day breakfast, and after a little Yelp searching, we found the Country Road Cafe in Kittredge. It wasn't too far, but was up in the foothills, and best of all: came with nothing but 5 star Yelp reviews. I don't like to hand out 5 star reviews, but this place deserves it. There's not much I can say that other people haven't said, but the Country Road Cafe was fabulous. It's under 30 miles outside of Denver, and a great drive up the Morrison road really helps pass the time. Plus the morning we went up there were a few inches of fresh snow and it made things all that much prettier. There were a ton of cars parked on the road around the cafe, but we didn't have to wait at all when we went in. Turns out there's an enclosed patio off to the side where they can seat & heat patrons even in the winter months. It's very very small on the inside, but it's incredibly cute. There are fun little signs with kitschy sayings on them plastered around the wall. It's fun to sit there and read all of the signs while you wait for you food. Speaking of waiting -- the longest wait is going to be while you decide what you eat, not waiting for the food to arrive. The service was fast & friendly, but the menu is massive and creative. There are lots of twists on classic dishes, plus just amazing concoctions. I had a scramble with eggs, bacon, ham, and jalapenos on top of corn bread then smothered in a chipotle cream sauce. The ladyfriend had a roasted red pepper wrap with an egg & sausage scramble with a layer of cream cheese stuffed inside a tortilla and then smothered with roasted red pepper sauce. Each plate was A: Massive and B: served with homefries. Those two things are enough to make just about anything a winner in my book. Great friendly service, huge and insanely delicious portions, and one of the most cute atmospheres I've seen in a long time. I can't want to go back again in the summer time. I highly encourage anyone considering this place (and it's only like 40 minutes from Denver) to go to their Website and look at the menu. If this review does nothing to convince you to go, the Menu will bring you there by itself. It's amazing. Best breakfast in Colorado.
