This place made my tummy tickle with joy. I love their meat and their sauce!! Totes. The cheese was tasty, buns soft and squishy. Fries were covered in flavor so strong that your mouth will never forget the sensation it once had!

I was so excited to have a burger joint down the road from me. However,I tried the restaurant once, right when it opened, and have not been back yet. The burger patty was thin and tasted like it was frozen meat. It was not thick or juicy and lacked flavor. I was disappointed as the burger left a lot to be desired. My waffle fries were great, however.

My burger was incredible, as were the Parmesan Truffle fries, and the chocolate shake. The cashier/order taker was very busy, yet still managed to be very nice and keep everyone happy. I can't imagine better combinations of toppings for burgers. The rest of the menu had a lot to choose from as well, such as chicken burgers, fish, black bean patties, salads, great beer and ice cream shakes.

We ate at illegal once when it first opened and never wanted to go back. A year later we did go back on a Friday Night. The service was very professional and friendly. The burgers were great and the fries very tasty. We have gone back twice with great meals each time. Glad we tried this place again.

We stopped in here after a 14 hour drive from Los Angeles to Evergreen. The burger was great. My mom had a hot dog and loved it. I'm not sure if the tip computer thing is normal over here but in LA I have only seen one at a bar. The place is small, but I wouldn't mind coming here again!

  • Graham K.

Cautiously optimistic that service issues have been addressed. We peeked in the front door and the previous nasty person was not there so we went in and received really quite great and friendly service. Burger was decent, fries were hot. Kids outnumbered adults in the place by 10-5. It was a romper room burger to be sure.

Great burger menu! We were hungry after a run around Evergreen Lake and decided to have lunch there. We chose two burgers: the illegal cream cheese with fried onion, sautéed jalapeños, and cream cheese and the Boss which has pineapple, bacon, and sautéed jalapeños on it. So flavorful, so good! You can add items to your burger for free like sriacha sauce, lettuce, tomato, etc. and choose what type of bun you want such as brioche or pretzel. We ordered the cheesy tots and they weren't great. I wish they were what I imagined they were whe I had them as a kid. Instead I didn't like the texture-this cheese/potato blob which is fried on the outside. Also, it took a while for our food to come out. We will be back for burgers, but try a different side dish instead.

I'd like to give these guys give stars. Here's why I'd like to: got a black bean burger, and it was delicious! The fried were petty good and food came out quickly too! Now here's why I won't give them 5 stars: the black bean burger said began next to it. Upon ordering the girl asked what kind of bread I wanted, so u said whatever it comes with (since it says vegan). She said it doesn't come with any assigned bread so I asked what breads were vegan. She didn't know, and didn't think they had any that was. I told her to ask a manager but no one there knew.. So I just picked one. I also got a salad and asked for vinaigrette and it came out with ranch (dairy). She was sorry, she didn't know they didn't have vinaigrette when I paid for the salad... She eventually brought me out white vinegar (20 min into my meal and after I ate my salad). They get a new staff (or A staff) and if try it again. As for now it's probably good to try but don't expect competence, and... If you can't get competence at a restaurant you can't expect competence with their the food (and food safety).

Terrible service, rude staff, filthy tables. I had to search for for a clean table to eventually clean off my own. The cashier answered my questions short, incorrectly and was rude. I don't think that I'll visit if I see her behind the counter again. I made my own burger and had the illegal (just the regular fries) and the food was pretty good. I don't know if it was worth the price, but it was pretty good. I'd probably give another location a try or if the person that was working wasn't there. And it was freezing inside. Granted it was 50 outside, but it was about the same inside. Food= good Staff= fail

Half our order was good the other half marginal at best. Watch out for how they handle drink orders. Very sketchy. You need to be very specific or you will end up paying more than you bargain for. We will not be returning

This place is a three-star establishment. The decor is cute - it's sort of convict/outlaw themed. The outdoor area is nice (especially since we stopped here on a road trip with a dog). But the burgers are just "eh". I had the veggie burger with the mushroom option (grilled mushrooms, caramelized onions, swiss cheese, and house sauce). Someone with me ordered the mushroom swiss with a beef patty. We were both pretty unimpressed. Even with the pretzel bun, our burgers were just okay. The sweet potato fries are pretty good. They come with a sweet honey/cream cheese sauce. However, the fries weren't enough to make up for the lackluster burgers. So, overall. It's okay. Certainly not bad. But I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

This is the 2nd time I have eaten here and the staff was friendly and helpful. I had an awesome burger with sweet potato fries! The atmosphere is fun and I love the pics of Alcatraz. The bar looked really cool too. I will definitely make this a favorite on my list!

After a friend and I spent the day wandering around Black Hawk and Central City, we each decided it would be swell to go out for cheeseburgers on the way back home. We absolutely didn't want fast food, so after a brief discussion, we remembered there was this burger place that we would otherwise drive past in Evergreen. Neither of us had ever before been here, but we decided to give it a shot. Our first impressions were less than favorable: The outside lights with the restaurant's name were off, nor could we see anyone inside. (Not a good sign for a Saturday night.) We almost walked away thinking they closed, but decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad we did. With no other customers, we didn't have to wait to give our order and were promptly served. These were easily the best burgers we've had in quite some time. I ordered the Off the Record Avocado, which was not only delicious but more food than I could eat, even though I was famished. My friend ordered their Undercover Cheeseburger and absolutely loved it, along with a side of waffle fries. I'm not someone who usually eats fries and thought the fries were just meh, though my friend mostly enjoyed them. I'd say it was the biggest disappointment in the meal. Overall, we truly loved our burgers, thought the place was clean, and the staff was efficient. As most of the burgers were in the $7-$10 range, we ended up spending only a little more than we would have spent at a Wendy's, for a MUCH better meal. We're likely to be back the next time we're passing through Evergreen.

Tasty yet average food. A bit overpriced for me. $3 for fries on top of an $8 burger.

Okay burgers with interesting combinations. People are kinda mean though. Mean is an over statement they just seem to not like their jobs or customers very much.

Went back and tried the "Swimming with the Fish" it was pretty good. I really liked the avocado and the lemon aioli. It was however incredibly messy to eat and ended up falling apart multiple times. Got the hand cut fries as a side and they were not very good and looked like frozen fries. Also ordered was the bacon cheeseburger which was too greasy to even eat and was thrown out. But the patty didn't look or smell like really great quality beef. Also ordered the "Three accomplices" The waffle fries like I stated before are over seasoned. The sweet potato fries were over cooked and thin. And for some reason I didn't get tater tots in mine or least not how I know tater tots. They were huge like Jalapeno Popper size and had cheese in them? I can't eat cheese so I threw them out. Overall I'm not really a fan they really need to work out some issues.

Asked if they could cook a burger medium rare for me. The cashier said yeah no problem, bit into the burger and it was cooked Well done with no flavor just grease. Disappointed especially for the price!

I had such high hopes for Illegal Burger based on the scrumptious photos on their website and some fellow Yelpers' reviews, but unfortunately, they really missed the mark tonight. But first, the good: the waffle fries were great! Served piping hot, crispy and nicely seasoned on the outside, tender and potatoey on the inside, just like I like 'em! The spicy aioli served with them was a nice addition. The sweet potato fries were also good. And now for the bad. I had The Slinger, which is a cheddar cheeseburger topped with crispy fried onion strings, bacon and BBQ sauce. I can't really tell you how the burger itself tasted because any flavor or juices were sucked up by the cold, dry, stale pretzel bun it was served on. It was so dry I had a difficult time swallowing each bite. I finally threw in the towel about halfway through. Oh, and the crispy fried onion strings were not so crispy and they were ice cold, as was the BBQ sauce. This ruined the overall temperature of the burger. The hubby's Undercover Cheeseburger on a brioche bun was pretty basic and neither burger was worth the $6.99 price tag. All in all, we left pretty disappointed. As we drove past the McDonald's on the way out, I couldn't help thinking that a Quarter Pounder with Cheese would have been way more satisfying at a fraction of the cost.

Our favorite family burger joint in Evergreen. Fast and tasty burgers with great sauces (and pretzel buns as option!) and super tasty thin fries....and unpretentious service. A nice beer selection and full bar, too. The house margarita is a great way to go. Always a sports game or two on one of the tv's, or enjoy an Evergreen sunset from the patio tables. Oh - don't forget to try their fresh spun milkshakes! And last but not least, they have a very good loyalty/rewards program. My kids love this place.

We ate here for the first time. The burgers were nothing to brag about. The meat was dry and tasteless. The fries were okay. It was cold inside and the atmosphere was drab. We don't plan to go again.

I recently visited Illegal Burger with a friend who lives in the area. They are a bit off of the beaten path, and it was somewhat difficult to find. Once I did find it, it had a nice fast food type decor, somewhat similar to a Chipotle. I ordered one of their specialty burgers on a pretzel bun. The meal was tasty, but nothing to write home about. With so many places like this popping up these days, the food, decor, service, etc, just seemed average. While I love to see new places open and I hope they get better and grow, this place just seems so-so.

Wish I would have read the reviews before I ate here... My experience is very similar to what other Yelpers have been saying, my burger was nothing special. My first thought was that my burger was a frozen patty, and my wife said she thought her veggie black bean was also a frozen patty. Sucks to go pay $7-$9 for burgers, and them not to have much flavor... The pickles on the burger were the best part. Sorry illegal burger, won't be back.

Tried illegal burger recently, nice place, a little crowded which seemed like a good sign. Ordered a cheeseburger, with all the toppings fries and a drink. The bill was around $11 and change... A bit pricey but when I saw the plate I figured it was plenty of food. Overall the burger looked great, got the shoestring fries and they were really delicious, some of the best fries I've had. The burger wasn't really greasy and had a lot of promise. After the first bite didn't really get much on the taste department, figured I got no meat. The next few bites it became apparent...the burger was not tasty like I would expect. Really the meat had very little seasoning or taste whatsoever. I ate most of it but was left a bit dissatisfied. Can't say the meat was frozen or not good quality, it looked good. They need to work on getting more flavor out of the burger, change the meat or something. Anyway, I think the place can be great, I really do. Evergreen needs a great burger joint. A few tweaks hopefully. I'll go back to try again someday in the not so distant future

We have been to Illegal Burger several times and have had a great experience each time. Fish burger was perfect. Fresh and good quality products. The BBQ chicken was tasty. The #7 burger with mushrooms and cheese was the best burger in town. Waffle fries, sweet potato fries...yummy. If you are heading out to Denver, just need a quick lunch this is as good as it gets. Better than even Smash Burger. OH Yeah... now for the secret. Order your burger, and slip over to the El Senior Sol and have a drink with your burger. Evergreen has suffered through so many over priced stuffy eateries, or nasty bars. Finally a good option for a good tasting simple burger without eating at McDonalds or Burger King. Eat here and support a new business and a small business owner trying to do the right thing.

I was glad to see a burger place open in Evergreen, so I gave it a try. Overall I was disappointed and thought they were expensive for the amount of food they served. I ordered the Hands Up Chicken Club. It was tasty, but they used a very thin piece of chicken. I expected more for $6.99. I walked out hungry. My wife ordered the Mushroom Swiss which included the house sauce. She hated the sauce, and I tasted the burger and thought it was dry (not at all juicy like their menu claims). My son ordered the Undercover Cheeseburger which was also dry (not juicy either). My sons ordered an order of Illegal Fries for $2.29. It was a very small portion and they are very very thin. The drink is also served in a small cup, listed on the menu for $1.90 but they charge you $1.99. I am following a gluten free diet and was pleased to see they offer a gluten free bun for an extra fifty cents. I ordered my sandwich on a gluten free bun (and was charged for it). My sandwich came out on a regular bun. I brought this to the staff's attention and they took the inside of my sandwich and placed it on a gluten free bun. This is an UNACCEPTABLE practice. I could have become very sick from cross contamination. It is obvious that the staff does not understand about serving gluten free food. It should be noted that all their fries are not gluten free. The speed of service was good; it is a small restaurant with the tables close together and loud. A burger ($7), fries ($2.29) and fountain drink ($2) will cost you nearly $12 (with tax). I'd rather go to Five Guys or Smashburger.

I went here for the first time for dinner and had the black bean burger. It came with sprouts, avocado and some sort of spicy in-house mustard. I was pretty nervous because it seemed like the burger was only on there to assuage vegetarians... but it was actually really good. I also liked the "trio" side dish they had, and the sweet potato and waffle fries were hot and fresh. I was not so excited about the strange cheese balls, but was happy overall. I'll certainly come back again.

This place in incredible! I lived in California for a long time, so I understand what a good burger is, and this place delivers, and is a good price too. The street burger with avocado and split hotdog on a pretzel bun is simply amazing. A little messy- yes, but that is because it is a huge, quality beef patty, with tons of pickles and other fixins! Fries are solid too, but it's really the burgers that are worth going for. I was actually disappointed when I saw the "coming soon" sign as I tend to like "healthier" options and was hoping a Vietnamese or Mediterranean restaurant or something would show up, but these burgers are fresh and tasty, and the salads are also very solid.

Illegal Burger is pretty new. We stumbled passed it on our way to Qdoba and were really excited to find it as there are very few dining choices in evergreen. I was with my 12 year old son and we love burgers.. Our favorite burger place is Jucy Burgers in Englewood and we think we know burgers.. Anyways, this place was pretty pricey... 23 Bucks for the 2 of us and we shared a drink and a fry's.. The burgers were undercooked, I dont really like pink in my meat but the folks at SmashBurger do the same so it must be a trend.... The Rub for me was that for 23 Bucks, and this is a sit down joint, we had to open our own packets of ketchup.. PUT Bottles of ketchup on the table.. Your cross cut fries were really good and would have love to have been dunked in gobs of ketchup... By the time we opennd our 10th packet, it was just ridiculous... Lastly, you need to read the board carefully as they have a good selection of burgers, The guy at the front spoke an english that was very very very hard to understand so we could not ask him questions without embarrassing ourselves. The place has potential, just not there yet... UPDATE! Kids made me take them back and my 11 year old daughter made us bring our own bottle of ketchup.... So it was a more pleasant experience, the burgers were cooked just right, the servers were helpful and we all left full and happy... Total cost for the 3 of us $27 bucks... AND, you can actually go eat nextdoor at the other mexican restaurant that has a more family vibe to it...

Like everyone else said, we don't have alot of good restaurants here in Evergreen, so I was excited about this place opening. We went there once, and it was just okay. Prefer the burgers at Cactus Jacks tho.

  • Lisette L.

Save your money and go to Burger King if you want a burger- the food at Illegal Burger is not good. The burgers were wet and pretty tasteless, others have said they were probably frozen and I agree. We tried the burger with avocado and the bacon cheeseburger- both were bad. We also ordered the cheesy tater tots and they were NOT tater tots! It was a weird hush puppy type thing with cheese and potato inside, they should definitely not be labeled as tater tots. On top of that they were cold in the middle- definitely a frozen item that was just plopped in the fryer, honestly they were disgusting. Also the food is pretty pricey- 20 bucks or so for two people and NOT WORTH IT.

Businesses in the area of El Rancho in Evergreen it was exciting to see a burger joint open. I tried it today ordering the Chicken Club and my co-workers ordered the bean burger and mushroom burgers. Judging from the temp and texture, my chicken was obviously previously over-cooked and then re-heated for my order. My co-workers bean burger was so-so and the mushroom burgers were given a little bit higher rating. For $7 burgers, the anticipation proved to be pointless. :^(

We've been here twice now with our two little toddlers and have enjoyed the food immensely. Had the undercover cheeseburger on a pretzel bun, yummy! Burger was cooked perfectly. Love their fries, both the waffle and slim ones. Prices are great! You'll love it. Good place to stop by on the way up or down the mountain!
