I am a chef and contrary to what most think, I just want to eat good food and have good customer service like everyone else. So we went to this place because it is across from where my wife and I are staying. I am here on business and that is an important part of this story... We arrive and everything starts out okay. Our waitress was a "turn and burn" kind of server. She gave us the same story that she gives every customer which isn't a big deal; you expect this at certain places. She's going for the "up sale" with everyone. The "host" that sat us by saying our table was a "winner" and by leaning lazily over the bar while the patrons ate, would eventually become the real issue. We found out later that he is the "GM". The food here was okay so I won't talk about it. If you want to fill your belly it will do that... Here's the problem: we asked for a split check because my wife's meal and any alcohol cannot be covered by my employer. Enough said right? WRONG! The server acted as though we had asked her to give us dinner for free. She said she could not split the check. We both said we work in the food and beverage business and it is very simple to split a check. She said she would have to ask a manager and the problems get worse . She tells the big guy leaning against the bar that I am a chef and want my check split. HE REPLIES: "Well then he shouldn't be a PAIN IN THE ASS!" He says this as loud as possible without yelling so that all of the patrons could hear. He said a numerous amount of other statements when I finally had words with him. I paid my tab and tip in full but I will NEVER return and Andy the GM that acts like a complete idiot in front of patrons and towards patrons should be fired before he allows this place to go under. You cannot run a restaurant without treating every guest like a god. We are in the service industry buddy, and we are here to serve while making money for our establishment.

Service is like no other. The waiter/ bartender staff is SO knowledgable and helpful when ordering. We sat at the table for four on the bar-- what a great combo! You get service like you are sitting at the bar, with the comfort of sitting at a table for 4. We had a whole lot of game-- elk, buffalo, and quail. The oysters, twice baked potato, crab cake, and caesar salad are all not to missed! Great wine list!

What a fun steak house in the charming town of Edwards, CO, perfect to head for for some protein after a long day of skiing. The mixed game plate is a great choice- quail, elk tenderloin, and buffalo sausage, which is out of this world. Service is very fast. Can get crowded so call ahead!

Great casual place. This place is a taxidermist's dream with all the stuffed game adorning the log-cabin walls. Impressive menu of fresh seafood and different types of game. Buffalo burger was great as was the red pork chili (nice and spicy!) And the teriyaki steak bits had a super teriyaki sauce. Quite a deal in the summer with 50 percent off happy hour drinks and 30 percent off dinner entrees. Large outdoor patio. Great place to go if you want to escape the overpriced and underwhelming food served in and around Vail Village.

We went to this place upon the recommendation of our concierge. I thought this place was great. We had the crab cakes and the cod. Both were really delicious. The atmosphere was also really cool. Parking can be an issue, so be careful. I will be going back!!

LOCALS alert! they were all ponied up at the bar, getting sloshed...but i'll have to end with what was going on with them... the local-factor is why we choose to eat here. can you believe that it's hard to find a standard dive with game (buffalo, elk. etc.) in the Beaver Creek/Vail area? after sifting through the recos from others (ones that were elegant dining experiences with game meat) we decided on the local's favorite - the gashouse - because dammit we wanted some buffalo! it's a total woodsy dive with animals heads adorning every inch - even a stuffed lion - what a taxidermist hot spot. we ate at a high top table by some TVs to catch some NCCA tourny action and ordered up some king crab for an app. the king crab was great, we had to crack it ourselves so it took a while to eat, but well worth it (i mean do you really think that they'll crack it for you at a dive?). get got our hands in there and got down with the crackers. next we ordered a buffalo porterhouse and a buffalo burger. both were HUGE, fit for a colorado mountain man. i was full by the third bite, but it was just what i was looking for - real mountain food. boyfriend really liked his porterhouse and i enjoyed the few bites i had as well. now back to the LOCALS - man were they smashed. they were more smashed than liza minelli/tara reed/pete doherty on a good day. and one man in particular (red in the face, larger and apparently "a banker who is into real estate") was well out of control - but this is the entertainment we were hoping for! hello, it doesn't get any better than drunk 50-something locals! this guy had a pretty filfthy mouth for a 50+ year old - he definitely said the "P" word a few times and swore like he was a 10 year old who just learned swear words, it was awesome but totally uncomfortable at the same time. we just kept praying that he wouldn't turn to our table (we were so close to the bar) and babble in his drunken mess of swear words about vail real estate. we had the best of both worlds - hear every word from these drunks but were untouchable. for great local fare/game and local drunks, the gashouse is the spot!

Food tasted okay. I felt sick afterwards but it could have been the altitude, who knows? I can here with a group during a corporate retreat. One of us saw Rocky Mountain Oysters on the menu and said, "We have got to try that!" We all became quickly convinced to give them a try, including one of the vegetarians! The rest of the night, as we hit the bars, we couldn't stop exclaiming to people, "WE ATE BALLS!!!!"

I feel obligated to review this restaurant as I have been coming here since the 80's. It is pathetic that a place that has been here so long only has 3 reviews on Yelp at the time of writing this review. This restaurant use to be the only building at the intersection in Edwards that it is located. Over the years I have seen the ups and downs in the quality of food that comes out of the kitchens despite a long standing consistent menu that consists predominantly of ribs, steaks, fish, and game. However, over the last couple of years the food and service quality has definitely improved. I generally order some of there game specialities as they tend to be difficult to obtain in the Bay area. Drinks are always strong and well made. It is a little on the pricey side but I feel worth it.

My daughter and I were on a little weekend trip to Glenwood Springs and stopped at the Gashouse on a whim. We both had ribs and they were delicious! The beer was cold, the service good and the atmosphere was great. We will defininitely stop by next time we are in the mountains.

I brought my parents here on 8/5/15 and we had very good service by server Alex R. Right after we sat down, a table of 10 tourists (4 adults and 6 children) were sat next to us. Immediately a table of 4 older local adults from Beaver Creek got up and moved. The large table was rude, loud, children standing up and being disruptive. We watched Alex handle this in stride, giving them a positive attitude, and as he juggled the rest of the tables in the room, our service was outstanding. he had great food knowledge, corrected my step-mothers error in ordering Pinot Noir instead of Pinot Grigio quickly and gracefully. Again great server, positive energy, and got the job done well under pressure in a full room. Food was excellent also, thank you.

Had a nice lunch here on the patio. Service was very good and friendly. I was in the mood for a basic burger and theirs did not disappoint. My friends had a southwest chicken wrap- she said was excellent and it was huge and a smoked salmon sandwich. I really love fries and was sadly disappointed with their truffle fries that cost about $3.00 extra. I couldn't taste any truffle to them and they weren't great for even normal fries. Overall good experience and pretty patio.

If you're in town and want a great steak, with lots of wild game as options, this is the place for you! They have just about anything you can think of on the menu - and bonus - the owner is originally from Ocean City, MD so they have fresh crabs (and other seafood) flown in daily! Make sure you have a reservation in the winter but it really isn't too bad in the summer or other offseason times. Great wine list with knowledgeable servers as well!

This is a tough review to write. On the one hand this place has character and I think it is really cool. If you are visiting the Vail area, it is a place you should check out. On the other hand, I don't know that the food is worth the price. We stopped in on our last night in the area, as my wife has been coming here for years, part of a ritual when coming up the mountain. We started off with drinks and some 'Rocky Mountain Oysters' as an appetizer. We have never had these before and thought "why not". If you have never had them, our server described them as similar to chicken fried steak, and I would say he was pretty accurate. They were decent, and it was interesting to try something new. For our main course, I had the venison chop and my wife one of the bison steaks. Whoever is grilling the meat in this place knows what they are doing. Both were cooked to a requested medium rare, and I thought both were delicious. That was the upside. The sides however, were where the meal fell down. The entrees come with a vegetable medley, which was lukewarm at best with both our meals. Both of us chose the truffle fries as an additional side included with the meal. They were undercooked, and didn't have a great flavor either. We have definitely had better. Our server was friendly and attentive, the place has a cool rustic, divey vibe, and the bison and wild game is tasty, but with the sides lacking so much, it is hard to swallow $25-35 a plate here.

Staff are always super friendly, we are locals so they take time to get to know everyone in the area. Check out music on the patio on Sundays. Always look at what the special of the day is before you go...the Mussels are a great deal for the Vail Valley.

As authentic and kitschy as you could ever imagine. Perfect experience for a great ski weekend in Vail/Beaver Creek. And the food is absolutely fantastic - great quality from start to finish. Buffalo ribs a must and, crazy, yes - but their fresh oyster selection is brilliant. A perfect end to a great ski day.

Came for dinner after not being here for quite a few years. The Gashouse used to be known for great steaks and the perfect porterhouse. Unfortunately they no longer go the steak route and push game. Overall I was disappointed, just average at best. For the price I will spend my money elsewhere.

I got the Mac and cheese. It tasted like it came out of a frozen meal.. The cheese sauce was super lumpy and it wasn't good at all. At least the French fries were good.

If your looking for a steakhouse in the Vail Valley, this is the only place you should consider. It will meet and execeed your expectations. Only one caution. .do not bring your vegetarian friends here !

My husband and I are locals and in the past have enjoyed many early dinners here. But recently we arrived for a meal and when we asked to be seated in the main dining area in which there was one occupied table, we were refused and seated in the "back" room. We were exposed to all the noise from the bar and the chatter of the wait staff as they congregated outside the kitchen. A most disappointing experience!

FRED'S FRIED CHICKEN!! Best fried chicken ever! Not to mention they give you enough for lunch the next day! They have a great menu all around from the wild game to the fresh flown in seafood to the daily soup special the really know how to make you feel like your right at home here in cozy edwards Colorado! Please go try this place they are truly one of a kind!!

Why anyone writes a decent review is mystery. Doesn't look clean. Drinks are overpriced. There was 15 of us, all men. 14 of the 15 thought the food was poor to inedible. I know this is a landmark, but truly disappointing. There was a lot of energy, doesn't make up for poor overpriced food. Will never return

We love the Gashouse. You will always get a consistent quality meal here, with a great wait staff. Nothing fancy or pretentious, but great seafood and great steaks. We always have a great meal, whether on the patio for a pitstop on our bikes, or for happy hour in the bar, or with kids at a family dinner. This restaurant is FAB!

Brought a crew from back east to this established steakhouse staple. Everyone loved variety of game. And i loved thre trout! The waitstaff very attentive . Our party of 10 had a great table in back. Don't miss this place for the variety of fresh game, seafood and yummy desserts. For a tough bunch of east coastets they loved it!

We came here off of a suggestion on our way home from Glenwood, and were very happy. While I loved the decor, I was a bit panicked upon arriving as obviously it is a meat and fish place, and I'm not saying I'm a vegetarian, but am not so big on surf and turf! But I swallowed my "pride" (?) and decided to go for it (even thought they had some nice looking salads etc) and sooo glad I did! I orderd crab cakes and fries made with truffle oil, interesting, crab cakes were as good as I remember them from the last time I had some in Maryland. My husband has a surf and turf special, and he made me taste a bite of his steak and it melted in my mouth it was so good. He's French and had never had Lobster and loved it. Also had a great choice of wines and beers. The service was just friendly and down to Earth, we came at like 4 in the afternoon so I know they weren't busy, but our server (sorry didn't catch his name, but a bald guy with a gorgeous beard) was just genuinely kind and interested and spent time chatting with us and giving us loads of tips. Very relaxed and nice meal. As for people's comments on the prices, I don't know to really compare, but we stopped in Vail after for a look around and it seemed pretty similar compared to what we saw. The meat was all very exotic and fresh and wonderful. Gratuity included.

We were driving through Vail and it was way to snooty for us.....then we some how ended up in even snootier Beaver Creek. So as we were leaving we found this gem. If you are willing to step out of your box and try new things......This is the place to go!!! The food was good and we had great service. I had the jackalope sausage G has the Buffalo Ruben. Both were delish!!!! I will stop here every time I come through.

Go there for happy hour, I think it is before 6. Order the game sample platter. It is amazing, especially the venison.

  • Fred H.

Came over from Beaver Creek per the recommendation of some locals. The Gashouse has a big variety of local wild game on the menu; elk, buffalo, wild boar, and quail. We came for Fred's Fried Chicken but decided to get the half order of their pork ribs and fried chicken since the ribs looked good too. So as many things looks can be deceiving. Stay away from the ribs, very under cooked and far from falling off the bone. Fred's Fried chicken is essentially chicken fried chicken minus the gravy. Over all not bad but definitely not an OMG moment.

I am SHOCKED the reviews on here aren't higher. This restaurant is fantastic. On our recent 1-week vacation, my husband and I ate at Gas House twice because we enjoy it so much. In my opinion, that is truly a compliment because there are so many great restaurants in the nearby--you could eat out every day for months and not run out of options. Get the Game Sausage Sampler Appetizer (vennison, boar and jackelope) for a true taste of wild game in the Vail Valley. The buffalo ribs are incredible--juicy and falling off the bone! My husband and I agree the vennison steak rivals (and may even beat) versions we have had at the more ritzy, upscale restaurants in the area. In regards to price, you can find a good mix of inexpensive or pricey options, depending on what you are looking for. If you want to try wild game, the samplers are a great option, but you will end up paying more. Downsides (I am getting picky here): Pass on the quail. In my opinion, it was just so-so. I was surprised there wasn't a larger beer selection. Adding more craft beers to the menu would fit well with the laid back, authentic Colorado atmosphere. Go for happy hour (3-6) to score 30% off of drinks and appetizers.

  • Daniel E.

Great game selection, knowledgable staff, quintessential Colorado. I had the buffalo ribeye and had a taste of the jackalope (type of hare) sausage. The buffalo ribeye was appropriately fatty and had a lot of flavor. The jackalope was spicy and delicious. Prices we're very reasonable. Great family spot, not the romantic type take your wife out place. Definitely recommend if you're craving meat.

    (4)
  • Ally C.

Definitely the spot to go when you're looking for game. Bison carpaccio, elk tenderloin and the Mixed Wild Game Grill are all highly recommended!! Pass on the fried chicken, it's not worth it. Great staff - they were accommodating for a table of 12 of us all on separate checks. Stop in for great game and decor to match!

I'm very surprised with the rating and reviews that I see here. I came back with my family this winter and the food and service was much better than last year. I recommend the Game Sampler, the Oysters and the Creme Brûlée CheeseCake. Delicious!!

This place had been built up to be a classic CO restaurant for game. What it was was a bummer.

    (2)
  • C L.

Terrible prices and very poor service. Our waiter did not know the Colorado law regarding appropriate forms of identification. On top if that, the prices are absolutely outrageous, a 1/2 lb burger is $14.00, ridiculous. That was also the cheapest thing on the menu. This place must be trying to recoup the taxidermy cost for this ridiculous decor. Lions in Colorado? Don't waist your time or money.

    (1)

Better to go for decor than the food. Overpriced & less than standard fare. There are nicer seafood places in the area to go to. Save your money.

  • Harvey H.

The food was good but the restaurant played a nasty trick on us. The waitress told us we could create a surf and turf dinner a la carte at the reasonable price of approximately $30 per dinner less their 30% promotion if we each ordered one crab cake plus one 4 ounce piece of meat. We not only said we each wanted one crab cake plus one 4 ounce piece of meat, but we pointed to the spot on the menu where it said 4 ounce portion to the waitress. This was in an entirely different part of the menu than the complete 8 ounce meat dinners, so only Mr. McGoo could have failed to see where we pointed. After serving us dinner they charged us $46 a person less 30%. They claimed falsely that we had each ordered a complete dinner with an 8 ounce piece of meat and refused to lower the charge. They also said we should have known we were served 8 ounces of meat even though we aren't butchers and didn't bring a scale with us to weigh the meat!!! Instead of owing them $40 plus my $6.50 drink we got charged $73.11 What a rip. If you decide to go to The Gashouse you may need to bring a lawyer to represent you when the bill comes or a GoPro camera to record how you ordered your meal. We both felt scammed by how they treated us.

After a three hour rafting trip out of Gypsum my youngest daughter was starving and asked for a steak and potato meal. I used Yelp and found this charming and rustic restaurant! The menu is extensive in different game as well as seafood. My daughter happily ordered the 8 oz. filet mignon and a crab cake. She exclaimed it was the best crab cake she had ever eaten! I had the filet as well and it was cooked perfectly! Our waiter was so wonderful and attentive and the hostess was fabulous. I would recommend to kids with families and we will definitely be back.

The Setting: group dinner, Sunday 830, had res, seated immediately. The Food: 3 Stars The Service: 4 Stars The Vibe: 3 Stars The GOOD: 1. Beef Carpaccio - great flavor, perfect amount of crustini amd arugula accompanying. 2. Scallops - well cooked, succulent, great rec by the waitress 3. Mud Pie - crispy and crunchy and creamy all in one dessert. Crowd pleaser. The OK: 1. Chicken and ribs - chicken was moist and well-cooked, the ribs were a bit overcooked and dry. 2. Elk combo grill - smoked sausage was excellent, elk and quail were good not great, and the truffle fries were disappointing. The BAD: 1. Buffalo ribeye (rare) - our friend admitted he should have ordered it medium rare on the waitress' recommendation, but he was disappointed. The other two people that tried it agreed. The Bottom Line: A solid restaurant with good "game" meat choices and affordable pricing, especially for Beaver Creek ($49/person for entrees, cocktails, dessert, and grat)

Two of my party had fried chicken that was good. Two had buffalo burgers. The buffalo burger buns were stale . The buffalo was not very seasoned or flavorful to me. My son liked his. The server showed no remorse for the stale buns. For the price, not a great value when there was no accommodation for the stale buns.

Worst burger in years any place. Bun thick and stale, burger overcooked. When I told the manager/owner, he defended by saying "we get a lot of compliments on the burger." That was it. We live in Edwards and have been coming to the Gas House since the 80's when there was nothing else in Edwards. It used to be great. A few years ago we had a similarly bad experience and said to ourselves that we would not be back. Unfortunately we gave it another try tonight. This time we really will not be back.

When I go to a restaurant, I just want to have someone cook for me and to do the dishes so I don't have to do it. The waitress doesn't need to talk to me or even stop by to ask how things are. I am busy talking to my dinner companion. No need for a great connection with the wait staff. Just take the order, take the empty plates, and refill my beverage. That's it. I don't ask for anything more than that. I do want good food. And I get it at the Gashouse. I've lived here for 12 years and it is always worth the 20 mile trip from my house. Thanks Gashouse.

We paid about $50 each for a very average meal. We didn't even get drinks. I would've felt better if we paid $20. There was a large selection of game. However, the meat was tough, over cooked, and not well seasoned.

  • Crys A.

This place charges way too much for what is mediocre food. Adding cheese and vegetables to a burger garners you additional costs. The waitress aggressively upselled other items, which was annoying. She was also ... odd. Disconnected, not overly invested in our experience. Mediocre restaurants shouldn't charge exorbitant prices just because they're located in a town that can afford it. I'll pay a good amount of money for good food --- but this wasn't it.

Went to the The Gashouse as ETown was a dead zone because of a lapse in its liquor license. Silly me I went based off of one review and I was sadly let down. Pulling up the place has a lot of character on the outside and definitely does on the inside too but that only gets you so far. First off the menu was so overwhelming, so much squeezed onto two pages, too much to take in. None the less we ordered beers from our seemingly odd waiter and decided on the 8oz Sirloin served with fries and veggies and the New England clam chowder and the Buffalo Carpaccio. The steak was cooked to perfection looks wise but was pretty tough and muscly from how my boyfriend described it and the fries tasteless. The chowder was great could have been a little clammier in the sense of flavor and the carpaccio okay if you subtract some of the balsamic, uncheese the crustinis and add some more arugala. The waiter never came back to check on us and once our plates were cleared by the bus boy, the waiter oddly skulked around to ask if we wanted dessert or the check. He also made some odd comments along the way. Maybe we need to go back and try some other items to get the experience other describe but I don't want to chance it and will probably not frequent here again.

Been here a couple of times. I recommend trying something from their game selection. It all is quite unique and certainly very good. You will end up paying quite a bit but i feel it was worth it.

Well if you want game this place has game. Outdoor space is solid and the staff is very friendly. I did the Ultimate game platter which included an Elk filet, Buffalo sausage, quail, and venison chops with twice baked potato. Overall I enjoyed the dinner, had a nice Nickel and Nickel Merlot. Wine selection is decent as well. Twice baked was average but everything else was very good. I particularly liked the Buffalo sausage.

I have been to this restaurant a few times before when we come out to beaver creek and I have always liked it. However this most recent time the good did not seem as good and our server was pretty bad. She was not attentive and tried to upsell us on salads that were not included in our meals. We had some appetizers and I had the bison burger and felt pretty ill the next day.

If you don't go here when you have the chance, you will regret it for the rest of your life. Everything from the buffalo steak to the duck sausage to the quail will be the best thing you've ever put in your mouth. We went here 3 nights in a row because everything on the menu was so incredible. Expect to pay for it...but trust me, it'll be worth it.

My most recent visit was very disappointing. 2 employees waiting tables inside and out. 5 minutes to get water, waiter never acknowledged me again. Left after 25 minutes. Shame, this was on my list for 15 years. Oh well. Had great service across the street. Careful don't waist your time here. Steve H.

I ate here thanksgiving night and I have been sick ever since. We had Crab Augratin and fried oysters for an appetizer and everyone who ate it has been ill. I ordered the Venison chop it was purple raw, I sent it back and it was inedible. They comped my main but I have been sick ever since. I had heard great things about this restaurant. It is crazy overpriced especially when the food makes you sick.

Great unique place. Arrived on a Friday night after a long trip in. There were 4 adults and 5 kids and we were seated within 15m. The place has a lot of charm and a cool vibe. We chatted with a fellow Texan while waiting and he reccommened having any game. I had a game sampler platter and it was lights out. Also, our Waitress was one of the best we ever hard. Next time we are in town, we will be back no questions.

We dined here last week while on vacation in Avon. This place was recommended by our hotel concierge who apparently lives nearby. We're told the Gashouse has been around for 30 years and by the looks of it, they haven't made many updates in that time. Not a bad thing - the place is very rustic and very casual! It is also very laid back - you'll see all kinds of people from the country club set to mullet-heads. Very nice dining on the patio outside. I had the buffalo rib eye which was okay...at $33 I probably wouldn't order it a second time. Box checked. My wife had the crab cakes entree which they tout as their signature dish - they were good but odd that they weren't served with some sort of roumelade sauce... The wine list is wide ranging but don't expect any bargains. The service was decent as well. Yes, a little pricey for a place sporting Jackalopes on the wall, but this is the Vail Valley after all. The main attraction is that this is not Vail or Beaver Creek...

"I am amongst my people" at The Gashouse. I got to the restaurant & saw that the staff had Jiffy Lube-esque shirts on. I realized I was over-dressed, but luckily I had a sleeveless shirt on under my waffle shirt. I took off my top layer & felt much more in with my fellow rednecks. There were deer heads & jackalopes on the wall. There were even deer butts that were decorated to look like yeti faces. All jokes & tackiness aside the food & service was extremely on point. When I called before making my way to Edwards I was informed they did not take reservations, yet they seated us immediately. The space was a bit cramped, but my party & baby didn't mind. The server was gracious & informative & even let my daughter tug at his shirt. The crab cakes, crab avocado salad, & mud pie were awesome. The quail was the BOMB. Next time I will have the 3 quails. I hope to find my way up to the Gas House again.

First I'll mention the decor and get that out of the way. I like the way the place is decorated. Looks like a trophy room with game mounts on the walls. Decor was rustic and the place was clean. My wife and I chared the sausage sampler appetizer which consisted of a link of buffalo and jackalope sausage ( I assume it was rabbit since jackalope don't exist). Both were fantastic. The jackalope was sweet and spicy. the Buffalo had a robust almost beefy flavor but better. I recommend you try their sausage. We also both chose the Philly cheese steak with shaved beef rib eye and swiss cheese, caramelized onions and mushrooms on a french bread roll. Also excellent. My only complaint was that I wish they had a better selection of tap/bottled beers. Would repeat next time I'm in the area,

Visited while on a business trip--some locals took my group there. It was pretty crowded and loud, but definitely a popular place. Service was pleasant, and there was a very good selection of Western fare. I had the Grilled Quail with Truffle Fries and Mixed Veggies and Mushrooms. Excellent (although the Quail took a bit of work to clean the bones). Nice place.

My girl friend and I at dinner here. Funny Tacky decorations but We liked it. We started with the fried calamari and quail apps. Both very good. For entrees i had the elk tenderloin med rare with blueberry demi, she had the buffalo ribeye. Both realy great with no game flavor. Service was good as well. Will be going back when I am in Edwards again, great job.

stopped in for lunch and for some strange reason we were the only ones there, as the service was great, the food good and the atmosphere -very unique. We will be back again-as we are fans

We've been going to the Gashouse as a family for 25 years. Nothing beats their RIBS. I love the animal heads on the wall-okay, yeah-its kind of weird but where else can you get that kind of "decor" - it's not meant to be the Ritz, it's got its own vibe and it's awesome. If you can't relax a little and learn to love the Jackelope, the Gashouse is not for you. If you are seeking vegetarian fare in a place known for its GAME, then this place is not for you. If you are expecting people to kiss your ass because you're a chef/ceo/gearhead/learjetowner/etc get over yourself. These are not your Servants. They're human beings. Usually I'm not so surly but some of the former reviews made me literally laugh out loud. C'mon people. You're on vacation - relax and live it up a little.

I hadn't been here before this past weekend. We were surprised not to find a wait, which is not a complaint as we were hungry. We had great bacon wrapped scallops with a tomato sauce & rice. This was listed as an entree, but we got it as an appetizer. And then we shared the 10 oz steak which came with 2 side options. It was so much food we had leftovers. I'd give this place a try if you are looking to dine outside Vail village. While on the pricey side, this is a total Colorado jeans place.

Our service was terrible. The food was over priced and not good at all boy steak was over cooked and under seasoned. Very disappointing. Will not be recommending or returning.

This place is absolutely nasty. We came here for a group dinner. We all left wanting to vomit. My crab legs (which was a $50 plate) had dirt on them. Don't you boil these things?! The only way they'd have dirt is getting dirty AFTER cooking them. Repulsive. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING ELSEWHERE. The service was great, but the food was just disgusting. Literally inedible. We spent over $1000 on dinner and none of us could eat our food. The server was so nice we kept lying saying we loved it but we all went back home and chowed down. This place is awful. They need a serious sanitary inspection. If you have ANY standards when it comes to food, especially you girls, DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On our way to Denver, we wanted to stop and get in a few bites.. ..it was around 2 pm. The restaurant was quite empty and we go the main dining room all to ourselves. Hubby ordered the rocky mountain oysters (3.5 stars), and I got the Maryland Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes on salad (recommended by our server) ....3 stars. Nothing really special about this place & food is on the pricey end. Maybe we have to come for happy hour?? The good: - kids got a kick out of the sportsmen decor The bad: - nothing special

I wasn't sure why I had such a hard time asking the question of our concierge because I swear I thought it was one people must ask her all the time, but it took me a few minutes to finally blurt out, "Do you know where we can find Rocky Mountain Oysters around here?" I figure concierges must hear odd requests all the time but our concierge looked truly floored at this question. So flabbergasted did she look, I actually felt my face reddening as she contemplated how to answer me. After awhile she cleared her throat and said, "You know, no one has ever asked me that before. And to be honest, I have absolutely no idea where you would be able to find them." She gave me a a quizzical look and I wanted to tell her it was not I personally who wanted to taste them but a few others in our traveling group, but I had a feeling it was a moot point. She was probably always going to remember me as the chick who asked her where I could find bull testicles. Great. Anyway. So yea, after asking around, our fly-fishing guide gave us the heads up and told us we could find the regional delicacy at the Gashouse, a restaurant in Edwards not too far from Vail which was where we were staying at. After all the hard work and embarrassment of tracking them down, I have to say, Rocky Mountain Oysters really don't taste like much. They came breaded and deep fried and served with a side of cocktail sauce (how ironic... or is it deliberate?). It sort of tasted like battered chicken skin... For some reason I was expecting fleshy globes of fluffy innards but no... So if you're in the area and have a hankering for Rocky Mountain Oysters, and I actually wouldn't recommended them even for the novelty, I've already gone ahead and saved you the humiliation of asking around- you can find them at the Gashouse. You're welcome.

Great spot for drinks and bar food in the mountains. Poor local beer selection...

Only place in town for rocky mountain oysters. They were OK as a novelty. But I would never order them there again. The buffalo rib eye was good. Funky decor. The night we were there they had lots of big parties and very rowdy.

Excellent place for steaks, wild game and seafood. Very friendly staff and they were on top of it. There is a reason why this place has been written up in local and national publications like Rolling Stones Magazine. You will enjoy it.

Been coming here for 10 years, and have had very good quality and service...but this evening was very bad. I do feel that the Gashouse is over-priced on a lot of things, but they have a great variety and have shown good quality in the past. This evening was not a good experience. Started with a waitress with an extremely poor attitude and then an over cooked burger. It took forever for her to come check on us and when we did tell her the burger was over cooked, she replied Ok and walked away. We waited and eventually the manger came by and happily offered to make another one. That came out way under cooked! After all that, the only concession they made was to take 30% off the one burger. We expected that burger to be free. Don't know if we will give the Gashouse another try or not. There are too many other great places to eat in Edwards and Avon to put up with a possible repeat of this experience.

Very good. I recommend the duck, elk tenderloin and the lamb. They had pheasant cognac sausages the last time I was there. The crab cakes are very good too. Great service.

This place is casual and fun, but they are serious about doing the meat right. We ordered several different types -- Grilled quail is oh so tender and juicy, this little bird is THE STAR. Buffalo rib-eye, done medium rare, gives more flavour than its beef cousin. Smoked buffalo bratwurst is smoking tasty! The menu includes a lot of seafood items too. Although I was somewhat suspicious (Colorado is still land locked, the last time I checked), we did try the crab cake and it was quite alright. All in all, a cool and relaxing place to hang out and eat some good meat.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! During our entire meal we witnessed Pete (the bartender) talk down to the wait staff and treat them like garbage. A server came back with a steak that a customer said was overcooked and he took it back to the table and proceeded to tell her that she was wrong and didn't know what temperatures were what (btw, the steaks are $40-$50). The entire time he focused on fluffing up our bill with up sell items and ignored the servers that needed help. After the horrible, uncomfortable service we left him a $40 tip on a $300 bill. Yes, I know it's a bad tip! I've waited tables for years. We did it to prove a point. Instead of learning his lesson, he called us out in front of the entire restaurant and threatened to call the police if we drove home. However, ten minutes prior to this happening, he gave us a round of shots that "he paid for". So: If you want to overpay for mediocre food and be belittled and threatened by your server, this is the place for you! If your up for a good laugh and would like to meet the most interesting douche bag in the world, this is your place! If your like me and come to CO to ski, have a great time and enjoy great service and hospitality, probably going to want to find another place. Don't eat here... EVER!

The Gashouse has been around forever and my family has been coming here since we started going to Beaver Creek/Vail over 18 years ago. We always make a point to stop here when we are in town for some good game without the fancy, long, sit-down dinner. This place can get crowded and they do not take reservations. Its not a five star dining experience and the service can be inconsistent. The bar tends to be crowded and rowdy with people fully enjoying themselves, many of them locals. The menu is extensive with lots of options from game to seafood. Surprisingly the crab cakes are fabulous. They have very little breading and is many just crab. The buffalo carpacio is delicious. I almost always get the buffalo burger which is cooked to perfection and loaded with flavor. Great low key place for a good meal. They supposedly have an amazing happy hour, but I've yet to partake ... next time!

Got into our hotel and needed an easy going place for dinner. We had no idea where we going, but happened upon this little cabin. The atmosphere is fun and the wait staff can sell the food. We started with a soft shelled crab and drinks. I had a Fat Tire on tap and the wife had a strong pomegranate margarita. For dinner I had the 1/2 duckling with blackberry demi-glace, and my wife had the venison tenderloin with a similar sauce. The entrees were out of this world for what we were expecting. Quality meat cooked perfectly to order. My ONLY gripe was the timeliness of service. The food came out very soon following our order, but it seemed impossible to get water refills or to pay the check. I was a little frustrated, but the waiter, hearing it was our honeymoon, brought us bailey's dessert shooters and offered a toast on the house. To me it's hard to make up for lack luster service, but he did. My ONLY gripe was simply the lack of refills.

The service was superb, but only because they failed to cook the steaks at the desired temperatures. My buffalo rib eye was decent, but nothing special. I asked for medium rare and it came out medium...at best. My friend ordered a medium rare that just came out well done. They did not charge him for it, so that was good. My friends did seem to enjoy the crab dishes, but I did not partake. It wasn't terrible, but I've definitely experienced better.

Two words: Happy Hour. Skip all other times at this funky bar & restaurant. Come for your apres-ski and enjoy the $2 beers, half-off appetizers, and, in my case, your married father oggling the milfy owner. Their local beer on draft was terrible, tasted like sewer-water, but they were happy to exchange them for your Colorado-standard-fair of Coors and Coors-owned beers on tap. Nachos? Best $7 I've ever spent. Delicious dinner for 3. 1/3 off seafood. Good oysters (didn't try, didn't care to try the rocky mountain oysters). Hands down the best apres-ski if you're staying near Edwards.

Nice location - cute decor. But the Philly Cheese Steak was awful! The wait staff seemed uninspired too. Nice place to meet people if you need a place that's is easy to find - maybe skip the food.

My bf and I had high hopes for this unassuming place in Edwards based on previous reviews. While the service was great, the food was very disappointing. My bf's fillet mignon was charred and flavorless. The bacon wasn't even crispy! This place is not meant for vegetarians. There are heads of animals everywhere. I did enjoy the sides and the crab cakes are good, but there was no sauce to enhance the dish. The steak and shrimp didnt come with any sauce either. All in all we paid $35 for an underwhelming fillet mignon and $25 for so so shrimp. Won't come back.

We chose this restaurant because of its rustic look, and not wanting to eat in an establishment in a shopping strip. When we walked in, we we reminded of a ski bum hangout, which it is. The menu on Sunday was surprising... healthy options and reasonable because it's the "off-season". Ribs for my husband and Cajun tiger shrimp - delicious! fresh vegies and other extras. Friendly staff.
