In the words of Yelp's review bar "Eek! methinks not" We rode our bikes here once, almost as a dare to try this place out. I was beyond hesitant looking at the food source containers in the kitchen. That's right- not just some unfounded fear, but I was taking in as much evidence of quality as I could reading the products of their suppliers. If you can call this food, I'm fairly confident it is doing your body no favors. Take your $1.35 and get a sandwich at the gas station. Better yet, drive 1 mile to Chopsticks on Ralston Road after the turn at ARC and get some quality Chinese food in your belly!

Worst food ever- period. We drove by and thought to give it a try. Now we are sick to our stomach with food and smell of the food inside the house. Not sure how they can serve this quality food to customers.

Great place for a quick home take out. I read some of the other reviews maybe they would be happier at Chang's.

Great portions especially for the price. Sesame chicken wasn't that great though. Most of it was breading and the sauce was average at best. Stomach didn't feel too good soon after eating it.

When they say $1.50 a scoop, it is a huge scoop--two scoops is all I can eat. I eat lunch there frequently as a healthy fast food alternative. (I'm assuming steamed rice and happy family, which is primarily vegetables, is good for you.) Is it great Chinese food? No. But it's pretty good and the bang for the buck can't be beat.

What you expect, it's $1.35 a scoop! Not the best for dinner but a quick lunch or something.

So I'm giving this place 4 stars for simple fact that its decent Chinese for a cheap price, not because its amazing food. :) Anyway the wife and I have been coming here for a couple of years now and its always good. We try to go during the busy times-evening and such.It seems the food is always fresh and hasn't been sitting around. We've even ordered stuff from off the line and they make it pretty damn fast and good. Now the food isn't the best in the world but really good for the price. Service is average nothing special and I really don't expect much from these types of places, just give me my food. Keep it simple and that's what this place is,simple Chinese.

I thought I was getting a great deal for how much food I got, but boy was I wrong. I have been here three times (thinking it will get better and trying to give it another change), but my mind has been made up. Each time I went I got lo mein and then various "meat" choices. Unfortunately, I got food poisoning all three times I ate here. Now, to begin with I thought it was just a coincidence, but something just did not taste right the last two times I was there. If you're looking for a cheap place to eat, this might be it, but you might lose a few pounds afterwards.

You absolutely can't beat the prices here. Compare the price and the food (and the sheer amount of it) you get to any fast food place and be amazed. Service is quick, a "scoop" is MASSIVE, and the chicken, noodles, and rice are great. Plenty of options, if you can't handle some spice or "ethnic" food, this is not for you. However, if you can - do it. Honestly, I kind of love it.

Four stars for the value you get here. It's really amazing how much you get for one "scoop". We didn't get sick or anything which I was a little afraid of. We ordered a pretty wide selection of stuff and it was all good and what you would expect for cheap Americanized Chinese food. Would recommend if you want a quick bite of some greasy food and cash is short.

I particularly don't like to pay for food and then, a few short hours later, regurgitate it.

The food here is absolutely delicious! ...if you haven't eaten in 6 months. $1.35 A Scoop has been in the neighborhood for quite some time now and I've had my fair share of visits. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is always friendly and professional. Now, the food is where things go sweet and sour. The egg drop soup and fried rice are great and I personally enjoy the wontons but I don't really care for anything else on the menu. You can see the food made fresh in front of you but it just doesn't taste the greatest. It's not like it tastes horrible, it just doesn't taste good. I get the feeling that some things are fantastic to some and not others, so play around with the menu and see what you like. The best part of $1.35 A Scoop though is that the prices are heavenly. When I think of a scoop, I think of like an ice cream scoop but a scoop here is like half of a large plate. Their "scoops" are huge, which is great. You'll fill up and then have plenty for leftovers. **They do not accept credit cards for orders smaller than $5 so make sure that you have some cash handy because the meal will cost less than you expect it to. Stop by, see if you like anything, and enjoy your super inexpensive grub.

Typical rude 1.35 a scoop restaurant, I don't go here because the staff seemed rude/confused

I really like this place. I know it is not the best Chinese food ever, but for the price you can't go wrong! I like the family that runs the place. They are very nice and always greet me with a smile no matter how busy they are. Yes, this place can have a line out the door an hour before they close on the weekends it seems like. They have about 10 main dishes, noodles, fried/steamed rice and 3/4 appetizers. I know the food is fresh most of the time because they can't keep enough in the trays and the cooks are always cooking. The amount of food they give you is unreal. They are not stingy with it by any means. I say try it, you might just like it. Plus you can do it for under 3 dollars. Especially if you are on a tight budget and want Chinese food :)

Good to great food. There is a high degree of inconsistency. Still, it's less than $4 and tasty

Only a few times in my life have I been treated with such disrespect. I have visited this place more than once a month for the year that I've lived in Old Town Arvada - within walking distance. I've told MANY people about this place and am a source of probably 4 or 5 additional "regulars" that were hesitant to try such a seedy looking place. I will be absolutely sure to encourage them never to step foot in this place again. Open sign on, doors unlocked, customers in the restaurant and they literally told me my only choice was sweet and sour chicken and refused to make/serve me anything else. I used to go there for teriyaki chicken or sesame chicken - but not anymore. It may only be $50-100 in revenue a month that my friends and I are responsible for- but it's beyond that. It's the principle. Have you ever gone into an open restaurant that refuses to serve you? It's offensive, humiliating, and leads you to want to tell every single person you know to tell their friends. I hate this feeling- this place shouldn't be in business.

Once I got over my fear of scary, cheap Chinese, I drew a deep breath and went into this place. Absolutely, rock solid, well prepared American Chinese food at the bargain basement prices starting at $1.35 a scoop. Maybe my weakness is tasty and inexpensive Chinese. And, this place has just the right mix of menu items to keep me going back. It's not your serve on a plate kind of place, it really is a cheap eats kind of joint. Yeah, you can get the stuff to stay, but I take it home and usually veg out in front of the tv while I eat this stuff. Do try the salt & pepper shrimp (ask for light salt), combination lo mein, and hot and sour soup. They are tasty and haven't let me down yet, and I've been coming since about a month after they opened. Rock solid if it's cheap Chinese you're looking for.

So I am not sure why so many people have a fear of cheap rundown Chinese or any other type of restaurants? I have had HUGE success finding great places to eat that look kind of iffy. This place rocks my socks. 1.35 a scoop is a great deal and the food tastes as good, if not better than all the other Americhinese restaurants I have been to. $1.35 a Scoop is awesome. I often go disc golfing at the nearby Johnny Roberts Memorial Park disc golf course, play a few rounds and then stop by scoops and head home. I don't like eating in this restaurant as it often steams up from all of the cooking going on. If they charged more for their food maybe they could spruce the place up a bit, but why not take the food home or to the park? Now I understand that I may be a rare breed that goes for this type of place, but I have brought some of my "scared" friends and they thought it was great too. If you want good real Chinese, you are going to have to look harder, but if you want delicious American Chinese food, why pay a pretty penny? $3.00 buys you a meal that I can't even finish.

This is primarily take out. What makes it amazing is the food is decent and truly cheap! Mushroom chicken and teriyaki chicken are excellent but quite cheap. You go in, order your entrees, pay and take it home. It is not 5 star because it is pretty basic stuff but it tastes quite good. Recently went, ordered 4 entrees for take out and left paying under $7...now that is something. They fit two entrees per a take out container and the quantity is sizable so don't worry that you get a little scoop. The fried rice is okay too. I have yet to try everything. We have tried this place several times and if you just want to buy cheap decent chinese food and take it home...it can't be beat. One person could eat for around $3.50 if you take two entrees and nothing more. That meal will fill you up so we are not talking about small amounts. If they were rating good cheap take out places it would get 5 stars from me!

I am been coming here for past 2 years and find the food consistently good and generous portions. Best to go at busier times of lunch/supper where food seems fresher. Staff is consistently pleasant and hard working. Atmosphere is modest. I appreciate the quick take out and decent prices. My children don't enjoy the extras served with traditional Chinese plates so its great not to have to pay for items we don't want. After paying $30 at Panda Express for food that was not nearly as good, I'll stick with these guys for quick take out and keep the change. My family has never experienced food poisoning yet and not saying it won't happen but suggest stopping during rush times to avoid food that might be sitting too long. I admit I would not have stopped if my dgtr had not raved about the cheap prices from looking at the place but glad she convinced me to do so. Is it the best Chinese you will get, obviously not, but decent food for the price. Nice to have a family owned business to patronize in an area populated with chain restaurants

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
