Not sure why this isn't a 4+ star place. Burgers and fries were VERY good. Yes, there is a line and yes you are looking at $10 for a burger and fries, but this is Sausalito. There are only about 6 seats in the back, but I don't know why you would want to eat inside since it is small and hot due to the grill. Walk down the street to the park and pull up a section of grass! When the line is long, review the menu and know what you want before you get to the door. They will be yelling through the door for your order so they can get it on the grill.

Dissent place with good price and fast service. There is a sitting area at the back of the place. Burger tasted very well for the place and price it is in the area. Too bad place closes at 5:00 pm on Sunday. Thank you for juicy and tasty burger!

S-L-O-W ... and pricey but I guess they can charge up to yin yang for burgers because it's Sausalito where everything is classy and expensive. The line was out the door and you exit the same way you entered to line up in. As you stand in line by the door there is the rotating grill right where they cook your burgers fresh! Then you place your order to the folks behind the counter. Your burger has a choice of everything on it or whatever your choices are. "Everything" includes tomato, lettuce, mayo, mustard, ketchup, onion and relish. Hubby and I each had the cheeseburger with Monterey Jack cheese and shared a bag of French fries. The cheeseburgers were $8.70/each. The fries were another $3.25... all in all our order came out to $25.23! That included one bottle of Snapple for $2.50. It took almost 30 min for our order to be ready. Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit but it did take a while, I'd say a good 20 minutes. There was no where to wait for our food unless you're lucky to get a table in the itty bitty section in the back. There were 5 square tables and maybe 6 chairs and placed really close to each other and felt claustrophobic. You're better off eating outside on the benches while feeding the pigeons and seagulls. So as we got our food we made our way out saying "excuse me" a bunch of times. Don't look for a restroom in here if you are looking to use one. The public restrooms are right across the street of this burger joint. The burgers were nice size and cooked to your liking. Tasty and juicy and filling. Aside from hamburgers, cheeseburgers, picante and Hawaiian burger, they also offered in their menu hotdogs and burrito and BBQ chicken. They accept major credit cards.

Melt in your mouth delicious! This is the $8 burger you want to try. My bf and I were drawn to this place after a long day of biking. I ordered the regular burger while my bf got the cheeseburger. We shared a bag of hot fries. All were delicious. The lightly grilled sesame buns were warm and soft, the burger itself tasted fresh and juicy, and the crisp lettuce with mayo was just right. We devoured our burgers and fries. Cons about this place - not much seating, short hours (closed at 5pm on a Saturday), limited drink options (not a big fan of Snapple products anymore), and it doesn't appear to have a public restroom. However, service was prompt and efficient. I will be back!

It's just the meat revolving over the fire that catches attention. The bread is mean so is the meat. The fries are just ready to fry ones... but eaten fresh its nice... Seems the owner is the same as the next door to ice cream and the restaurant... Sau sa lito is amazing place sply peaceful.

Serious- just an amazing burger! Had had a bit too much fun in the city the night before and this burger hit the spot! The line was long but there's a reason why- it's worth it! The food is cooked right in front of you and you just tell them what you want as you stand in line. I can't wait to stop again and try more things.

Wish this place had a location near my home in L.A......love the concept and the simplicity of it all.

Hamburgers Sausalito makes hamburgers ... that about sums the place up. It's a relatively inexpensive and very popular burger joint in the heart of Sausalito. Get in line and prepare to wait because it takes time to make fresh burgers ... like seriously, way too much time. For a fast food joint, it isn't very fast. The burgers are ok ... nothing special except the patties are warm and it's made to order. Get one with "everything" for just over $7. Fries are less than $3, so, for around $10 bucks you can get a Cheeseburger & Fries. There aren't many places to sit/eat, so, plan to get your burgers to go. If eating at one of the nicer or trendier restaurants in Sausalito isn't your thing, then check out Hamburgers Sausalito for a predictable and a-ok lunch.

Hamburgers Sausalito is the main reason why I bike from SF to Sausalito! OK, not exactly...I visit more out of convenience than anything else. The burgers are great but my judgement might be clouded by the fact that my stomach is growling and my body is weak each time I've pulled up to this burger joint. After an intense bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, I'm in the mood for a quick and satisfying, artery-clogging, food-coma-inducing, meat-lovers'-paradise meal. Enter Hamburgers Sausalito! The wait time is rather short compared to the other restaurants nearby. I've only ordered their hamburger and each time, I was starving. Their burgers really hit the spot! The beef patty is thick and wedged in between two toasted sesame buns. You can actually watch them make the burgers on their rotating grill! It's quite a display. There are only 3 tables inside this cramped restaurant so consider yourself lucky if you can snatch a seat. Since it's so tiny, there is always a line out the door. Most of the time, it's a grab-n-go kind of meal. Stroll across the street to the cute little park and you can munch on your burger and enjoy a gorgeous view of the bay. Here are some tips to maximize your ordering efficiency at Hamburgers Sausalito: 1) Get yourself in line and be prepared to place your order when you reach the counter. You can choose to slap "everything" on your burger: mayonnaise, mustard, relish, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. They will give you a number for your order. 2) Move down the line towards the cashier. (They accept credit card.) 3) Patiently wait for your number to be called. 4) Inhale your burger (and fries), and then go on your merry way. I'm not a burger expert but my burger tasted delicious. However, the patty was a little bit on the dry side. It's a big patty so I guess they need to cook it all the way through. It's affordable considering you're in an affluent city and the portions are decent. I've also had their wavy French fries and those are your standard fried potato sticks with salt. I'll give credit to Hamburgers Sausalito though; the thought of their hamburgers keep me going on my bike ride!

I think this place is overrated by Britney Spears's halo. Arrived the store around 2pm, no line is waiting. Placed the order of two burgers with fries, all handed to me well packed but were cold inside. Fries are Ok and that's the only reason I add one more star on.

I have to say, if you're looking for a juicy, super fresh, no frills hamburger this is a great place. It's super crowded so if you're a local, call with your order ahead of time. That way you can skip the line that spileth over onto the sidewalk with tourists. If you're a savvy tourist who has actually planned things like mealtime in advance then pretend you're from around here and dial in your request. You won't get carded. I always call about 10 minutes in advance and my orders ready when I get there (and gleefully skip the line- "excuse me, excuse me, coming through. Yes, I called ahead.") And when you finally bite into that glistening, fire grilled hunk of meat you will attain hamburger bliss. The actual restaurant is a shoe box of a place. I think there's a couple of tiny tables in the back. Grab your food and go chow down by the water. Yeah the seagulls will want a bite too but I'm willing to predict there won't be any left overs to toss their way. Facility: take out Service: clean and speedy Food: tasty Yelp Stars: IV

As a local and native to Sausalito, this is one of the few hamburger places in Sausalito

Long lines. Shouting out your order. Retrieving your order farther down the line. Has Starbucks gone into the hamburger business? Well, no, but it sometimes feels that way at Hamburgers Sausalito. They take your order, cook it on the grill while you wait, and deliver it thereafter to the cashier. The guy behind me from New York was skeptical: "Seems like a racket. How is this different from a backyard barbecue?" Perhaps, but it's hard to argue with the results. You end up with an absolutely fantastic hamburger. Buns, burger and everything are savory and delicious. Just excellent hamburgers! As an added bonus, we walked across the street to a park, and had a wonderful bay view to go with this lunch. Same view as the people paying $70 in the nearby waterfront restaurant - and our lunch was probably just as good!

This is a tourist trap. I really think this is NOT "the place" for a burger. Their burger is just average, not worth a trip to try it. I came here because some friends told me about this place. But, really, there is nothing special here. They have a "cool grill" behind a giant glass window but... their burgers is just regular. I was the last customer for the day, so after I received my order I was asked to leave the place, as they need to close it. At least they told me to go to "Fish & Chips", which is owned by the same owner, so I can seat and eat there. No, this is not the place. Just an average burger.

    (2)
  • Dianna B.

First, be very aware how small this place is. It's TINY. Secondly, if anyone is waiting, you're going to wait. Thirdly.. they cook the food right there for you, so it's fresh. Mostly. My husband really liked his burrito, but my hamburger tasted off to me. I loved the sessame seed bun, but the meat.. Nope. The seagulls loved it though. The fries were REALLY good. The diet coke was flat.

    (3)
  • Sean K.

Hamburger was good not great. They claim to use organic beef. Fries were not tasty. Ended by paying $26 for two burgers, fries , and one drink. Rather expensive I think. No place to sit inside. If you ask me it was not bad, but not worth the long wait

Family Vacation Part XII: Title: Why did we come here...??? So while riding the Big Bus Tours to Sausalito, our bus driver. (very funny guy) drove by this place before parking and said "Best place to get burgers right there, the line is always long". We looked over and thought, wow we are in luck, the line isn't so bad right now, lets go! The kiddies were hungry, and realizing that we didn't have alot of time to explore because we didn't get here early enough burgers seemed to be a safe bet. That line creeps up fast. But before you even notice that you realize that you have to get in a very tiny hall way to order your food. Now there is a large window outside of the place and I would think it would be easier to hand the food out the window instead of having people squeeze into the hallway. Just have someone open the window up. The problem with this hallway is that it is the only way in and out of the place. The people in front of you when they get their food, has to turn around and slide past everyone else in line. There is no way to do this without touching, and it can be very uncomfortable. While they are preparing your food the burgers do look impressive. I asked if they could cut one of them because I was going to have my children share and they said the burgers are as is. I thought that was weird, but if they food is great why argue with them. Once you get in the register you see the sitting area. Very small. And you look and realize you have to then squeeze through the line carrying your food to get out. The condiments is on the register side too, so you have to get over there anyway. I grab napkins and a plastic knife and headed back. Eating outside while trying to feed 2 kids with the messing burgers (trying to cut them with a plastic knife), all while fighting off birds and bird droppings was no fun. Add the San Francisco wind and you would rather eat inside somewhere else. The burger was ok, tender which was good, but not seasoned to notice. The bread was soft. I think if I was eating inside and not fighting off birds my experience with the burger would have been better. The fries were good, but that could have been because they were easy to eat and avoid the birds. Clearly, i don't recommending coming here with kids. If you are by yourself, call to order. You can avoid the line. According to Yelper Hermann W. the owner also owns Fish & Chips. Take your food there sit down and eat.

Ever since I got to Sausalito, I have been looking for a good place to eat. I am one that loves a good burger and Sausalito Burger was the spot I chose to check out. From the outside you can see the cook putting patties on the grill, cooking away. As you peer inside, you can see how it is on the cramped side. On the left; three workers, the grill and counter. On the right; all the waiting customers. When you actually get your chance to enter the restaurant, the cook is the one that actually takes your order. To keep track, he rights your order abbreviated on the wrapping paper. The second worker fulfills the orders after your burger/chicken is ready, and the third worker cashes you out. With the amount of ppl there, I waited about 20 mins from start to finish. Totally worth the wait b/c the burgers and fries were outstanding! Not greasy. Not dry. Juicy and delicious. The fries cost $3.25 but I was given a bountiful amount! They remind me of Ore-Ida fries tbh. Four stars b/c I was cutoff by a rude customer as I was cashing out. I was put on hold so she could be helped even though I was called before her.

Easy. Fast. Incredibly tasty. This place was exactly what 9 hungover 25 y/o's needed after a hike to the top of Muir Woods. Get your burger and head to the water-sit on the grass and enjoy. Got everything on mine, plus a good amount of fries that they scoop into a bag. Couldn't have been more perfect. Both the timing, and the food! Nice work!

Be prepared to stand in a little line but it's worth it. This is a dam good burger and don't forget the fries

  • Mike B.

The line was long and the service was not too fast. The spinning BBQ was a fixating experience. The burger was tasty and fresh as expected. It definitely felt similar to the experience you would get as seen in the Seinfeld episode of the Soup Nazi. This is a unique experience and if you don't have a problem with a cramped low key hole in the wall and then you must give this a try.

I love this place. The end.

Heard about this place had to try it. As you are driving through Sausalito don't blink you may miss the place. It is a little hole in the wall with just enough room for customers to stand in line up to the register. There is no seating nor are there bathrooms. The burgers are cooked right in the window on a revolving wheel. They serve up a hearty portioned hamburger with all the fixings. This is your basic burger with your basic condiments. $15 get you a cheeseburger fries and a drink that you must take out with you and find somewhere to go eat. I opted for my car. This was a burger that was worth every penny of the $15 I paid. Cooked to perfection with a soft delicious bun that is slightly toasted. Crinkle cut french fries that are enough for two people to share. WARNING: There is another restaurant north of this one that has a sign hanging out front that says,"hamburgers" don't confuse this place for the real deal. If the burgers are not being cooked on a wheel in the front window, you are at the wrong place! There is a pay parking lot across the street from this establishment and it's 3 dollars an hour to park in that lot. My only suggestion is you scope out a spot to sit and eat your burger before you order it. It's very good burger you will not be disappointed.

  • Scott D.

Best Hamburger Joint in the Bay Area! Grilled right in the window. Minimal menu. Fresh ground every day. Crinkle cut fries. No seating. So take it to the park across the street and have a picnic on the grass in the shade.

My husband and I recently went to Hamburgers for lunch while in Sausalito. This was my second time eating here and his first. The hamburgers and fries are delicious and it seems like there's always a line. It's fun to watch the food cook on the rotating grill in the front window. The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is because it's a little pricey and because there are only nine seats (three tables) in the entire restaurant. Other than that it's delicious and I'd definitely return.

New Year's Eve ordered 4 burgers and fries and waited on the side... We waited bout 3 feet from the register and waited for them to call out our number but yknow 10 minutes go by and no number.... So I ask if they called out my number and he says I gave it to someone else so I'm like ok..... And then he says I called your number which is a damn lie so Lol he gives us someone else's order which is was like 2 plain ass burgers and 2 hotdogs which was obviously less than what we ordered portion and money wise. Cashier thinks a damn free snapple makes up for it. These dudes didn't wanna remake it or add anything so... This place fucked up

  • Wilson A.

Can somebody please tell me what the heck they serve here? Yeah eating here definitely hits the spot. No frills. No secrets to figure out. Delicious. Gotta have it while you're in that area. If you're expecting more, you won't get it, and you'll just disappoint yourself. Change your reviews to 5 stars. Now.

Got into town to enjoy the scenery with a quick bite so that we can move on with what we were there for. It was UNFORTUNATE that we walked into this burger joint on Saturday, 8/4. We walked in and were able to place our order. About 10 minutes into waiting, one of the staff rudely peeked over the cash wrap to the table area and stated, "We are going to be closed and all of your food is going to be to-go!" @ about 4:45pm. This giving the customers no choice...but to take it to-go. While continuing the wait for our order, several customers walked into the establishment and were going to order. The employee on the grill yells out, "we are closed!" Mind you, it is still 4:45pm. The customer generously states, "I was recommended by someone and walked all the was from the pier to try your burgers." The staff responds, "that's the way we work, we are closed, whatever is on the the grill is what we are doing and we are done, that's the way we work!" More than just one or two walked in thereafter and were responded by the staff the same way. RUDE! RUDE! RUDE! "We are closed!" "I just want a burger." "We are closed and that's the way we work!" Mind you again! It is still before 5pm. One word of advice, the staff of Hamburgers in Sausalito should acknowledge the fact that there may be customers there that do not appear to speak spanish, but understand and fluently speak it! They should pack up their ignorance and go work somewhere else if they are really that sheltered! The establishment does not have any of there working hours posted either. This may be a great idea if they just want to continue the maltreatment. It seems like this isn't the first time that the staff mistreat their customers. History on Yelp shows that they continuously provide poor service with mediocre food. It seems like I was not the first customer of this establishment to experience this, but many have and not stepped up to let the owner know. By the register there is a sign with a number to call, if anyone missed this, go check out the photo that is posted on the photos of this establishment on Yelp and please let the owner know how crappy his staff is and how much they are dragging it to the ground. yelp.com/biz_photos/Qb26… Safe travels and to good eatin' with exceptional service...

only afternoon customers and completely empty...nothing on the rotating fire grill displayed by the window...one hamburger, one order of fries and a soda requested...just a random stop for a taste test...narrow walkway in front of order counter/kitchen...few tables and chairs in the closet-sized dark back seating area...an employee eating lunch in one of the table...warned that crowds will be coming in....soda in hand and stepping outside to wait...wait some more...watching lumpy ground beef patty rotate in circles...must be hand-formed burger patties...rotating forever...20 minutes of waiting...no crowds and no lines...just a tourist or two...slow cooking the burger?...sure has been grilling for a long time...finally ready with a bag of fries...crinkle-cut fries...some thick and some thin...some crispy, some soggy, some okay...not very good...the burger is big and messy on a sesame bun...standard toppings and thick burger...very well-done dry burger...just a big grainy flavorless chew...burger, fries, soda and tip will run about $15...

Our tour bus driver recommended this place to us as we arrived in Sausalito. It was a very shameless product plug as I think they get free burgers for helping bring in customers. But you know what? Doesn't matter... it was totally delicious! I haven't had a "real" burger in a long time. This place hit the spot and I'm still salivating. It was a simple burger (no exotic ingredients), but sometimes simple is best. It was so tasty. Their ordering system is pretty cool too. They write down your order on the paper that they will use to wrap your burger. Then down the assembly line it goes and by the time your burger is ready (you can watch it cooking on the rotating grill), you pay and are out the door. It was a bit of a wait to get our burgers, but that just attests to the freshness of it all. We took our burgers down the street to the little park and had ourselves a nice delicious picnic. Loved every moment.

Don't let the line fool you, you will be disappointed. In n Out burger is better than this. The meat is over cooked and not juicy at all. I will not come back again....

    (2)
  • Aviad F.

The patty was good, but all that came with was so-so. A meal of CB+coke+fries is 15$. For a take out meal it's not cheap. But still, it's probably best choice on that street. Staff is nice.

    (3)
  • Derrick Y.

We were definitely mesmerized by the rotating grill installed strategically by the front window, and intrigued by the line out the door. The ordering procedure definitely felt rushed, with the man behind the counter barking questions at you. Don't expect to find a seat either - there are only a few small tables crammed into the back, and we were lucky they were vacant. The burger itself was just average, as were the fries. Definitely preferable to most fast-food joints, but it was also more expensive. I can't remember too many details other than the bun seemed large for the amount of burger and toppings. It's maybe worth experiencing once for the fun of it, but I don't see the need to go back again.

  • Kenny W.

Don't trust The bus drivers, there's a sign in there that clearly states that they get a discount if they show a valid ID. The burger meat is old, just look at the raw patties in the kitchen. They are more brownish then red. The bread was dry, and so was the meat. Taste was bland. The soda tasted chlorine! Stat away, if you like hamburgers!

we just went there on 4/9/2015 please Don't go here over price Bad ,Bad service .We went there with friends on our vacation and heard from bus driver that it was good. Boy were we wrong ! no way. 1} price for Burgers over $8.00 bucks and at this price it was not good, {Way to much}. 5 guys Burgers are way better or find a In-out .and a lot Better on price. The service was poor and we waited 15 min and then a small group came in after us and they gave them burger faster then us. Just past us wright up. 3 they were not very nice. so I will never go back or have friends go back or family that live in area...............

Wow I don't know why they have the long lines! We ordered a picante burger for like more than 10$ and we're very excited. The burgers tasted worst than the burger king whopper! Disturbingly stale and gross buns! Again just an overpriced soggy burger king shop! Stay away and don't be fooled like us!

    (1)
  • Vivian H.

There was a long line, so I needed to find out what the hullabaloo was about. Burgers fresh off the grill, no frills, and probably some of the cheapest food you can get in touristy Sausalito. Burger was nothing crazy but for a well-done beef patty with the usual lineup of condiments, it was pretty good and filling.

    (3)
  • Clarice C.

The burrito is the hidden gem here! After biking across the Golden Gate Bridge, we were starving and all the restaurants had a very long wait so we wanted to find somewhere we could order and go. The burger was very delicious and the burrito seems random but don't let that fool you! The burrito was very good and I would def order it again. Who wants to eat at a sit down restaurant after you've been sweating and exercising all morning anyways?

  • Ken K.

My friend recommended this place to me years ago, so you can imagine my excitement when I finally got to go recently. We stood in line and looked through the window to see this awesome rotating grill, and I could hardly control myself as I waited to get that burger in my hands. What. A. Disappointment. Without being overly-dramatic, on my list of favorite burgers, this one pretty much goes to the very bottom. Nothing about the burger stood out to me. The bun was dry and bready; the lettuce, tomato, and whatever else was in it did nothing to help out. And don't even get me started on the patty - it was bland and way overcooked. I'm not sure if they even take special requests since it seems like they have their method down for making the burgers and probably don't want to cater to anyone's needs (that's just my own suspicion though). If you're in town, stop by to take a look at the rotating grill, and then head over to any of the other restaurants in Sausalito to eat a meal.

  • Annamarie M.

Decent burger, fresh off the grill. Very simple. the works' means youve got ketchup, onions, lettuce, mayo, and mustard. Though a very generous portion size, there wasnt really that much flavor. Juicy yes, but i feel like ive had better at in-n-out. Keep in mind if you come here and its a bit chilly, there's very limited seating.... Maybe enough for eight people total.

Sausalito Hamburgers This was a cheap but great gem. Big, homemade burgers in a small hole in the wall and we both ordered a burger and split a fry order. Nothing fancy about this place just wholesome great value and tasty burgers. Spent $18.

Came here for lunch for my last meal in SF. Only one customer in the restaurant at noon so I'm not sure why. The grease in the air is one of the great things here. The rotating broiler/grill is really neat as you walk in. The width of the restaurant is about 12 feet...probably only 25 or so feet deep... Lease space must be a real premium here. The restaurant has been written up in InStyle magazine as having a great burger. I opted for the cheeseburger with french fries and a fountain root beer. Fries were crinkle cut frozen ones...nothing special. Root beer was Barq's. No fancy ones here. Burger was hand-formed angus sirloin, ground fresh every morning. They form it into a ball and leave it sitting in the chilled serving table until it's ordered then placed onto the grill. I requested all the ingredients. I've had burgers all over the country and thought this one was just okay. Probably would've been a bit better without all the mayo they put on it. Nothing gourmet about it. I heard the buns were fresh sesame seed local buns but I didn't find them to be gourmet in the least. Meal was about $13 and change. If this is the best, I'd hate to try the lesser burgers to be honest.

We decided to eat here because of the line outside of this tiny little place. We figured if all these people were willing to stay in line for the food, it's gotta be one good place. We really loved the burgers - big and juicy. They don't skim on the condiments either. Not cheap though - $25 for two burgers and two orders of fries. But it was a nice treat!

Went, waited, was not impressed. Get past the novelty of the place it is just another hamburger joint. Smells good from a far taste like a normal burger. Definitely fresh i will give them that, but not worth crossing the bridge for.

Ranks among the very best burgers in the whole Bay Area -- for real. Overhyped Best of the Bay, Best of the East Bay, Best of Yo Momma burger establishments, eat your heart out.

Fantastic grilled burgers. Nothing gourmet about them. Just basic, with a selection of traditional condiments put on them. Worth a trip. But, fries disappoint.

Sausalito has a fair share of decent sit-down restaurants, but if it's mid-afternoon and I'm craving a nosh, invariably I'll head to this hole-in-the-wall joint for a thick, juicy, flame-grilled-to-order burger with all the fixings. That, some fries, and a cold drink, and I'm set to go find a spot near the water or on a bench in the shade for a very satisfying and inexpensive al fresco meal.

Went here about 4 years ago. All I remember was a really good burger; thick and juicy, grilled bun too. Its right across the water so on a nice day its a perfect spot to stop, eat and enjoy the scenery. After living in San Francisco I feel much more at home in the city, but in small doses Sausalito ain't that bad. A couple months ago aching for a big burger I decide to head across the bridge and check it out again. Its a Thursday or Friday night about 6pm not too late. I get there mouth watering, gaze at the window only to see it dead. No lights, no people, no meat. WTF! 7pm on a friday night? Upon closer inspection I see that they are open about 4 hours a day, go figure. I guess that's what I get for leaving the city.

I don't know what it is, but the burgers here just taste so good! they make really juicy and flavorful cheeseburgers, hamburgers, and chicken burgers. If you liv nearby, call ahead to place your order, or be prepared to wait in a long line! they have basic crinkle cut fries, which don;t match the quality of their burgers, are just OK. They come in a big bag to share.

The Burgers are great, but I love their chicken sando. Fries are scrumptious, one serving should satiate two people. After getting your meal go across the street and shove your face in front of the fountain. Make sure to be real sloppy for the tourists. What a treat they will have when they develop their pictures.

If you are walking through Sausalito, you can't miss this place. Through the small window, you spy the burgers spinning around on the grill. They are quite fat and juicy, these burgers are. $12.50 will get you a burger, fries, and generic bottled water. You could do worse, although taste-wise, Flames is still my favorite in the Bay Area.

it was a cold and dweawy night. suddenly i saw a flame. the enticing warmth gently brought my feet to the counter. i saw, i ate, i conquered. it was a burger hypnotist.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BUNS?!?!?!?!? We went today and they ran out of the regular buns. And we were very disappointed eating those nasty Kaiser rolls! Please don't run out again!!! I'm leaving this at a low rating so that the ownership hears about it and doesn't let this happen anymore. - THANKS! And now an attitude as a response? We love your burgers and recommend to everyone and then put it so it flags your attention and get blasted for trying to help you? - WHATEVER

Everytime I've come by this place, I was lucky enough to get there a minute before the line went out the door. It's a small unassuming joint, that barely has enough space to walk by each other side by side. Inside there are about 2-3 tables and not many more chairs. The burgers were actually pretty good! I've had the cheeseburger and turkey burger. Both are good options. You can just see it cookin' from the outside window on a turntable that just goes around and around. You're best bet is to order to go, take it across the street and enjoy the rest of the city. When I want to mix it up when I'm downtown, I'll drop by here, but it's not a place I crave.

It is what it is - a good yet pricey burger in a place with just enough standing room to place your order, pay, and get out intact without getting trampled to death. There was a sort-of "soup Nazi" atmosphere in the place that we found a little intimidating - once I placed my order, I was afraid to make a change for fear of getting the "no burgers for you!" treatment. This was likely just my perception due to being a "noob."

Biked from SF to Sausalito and read about this burger joint and decided to give it a try. We all ordered burgers and shared a fry order. Staff wasn't very friendly and looked liked they could have cared less to have customers--does it really hurt to smile and be pleasant? The burger had too thick of a bun and I tore most if it off to taste more of the meat while eating it. Meat was a little on the dry side for me. 7 seats and three tables and very cramped. Husband and daughter liked the burgers, but I just felt like it was an overpriced burger. In and Out is better.

So last night, I had another strange dream...I was part of a 4 man gang. We were like hitmen..we had a duty to take down this corporation. In the midst of the rush, we took over their main office on the top floor. But then the Boss's daughter came out guns blazing with her henchmen. Bullets flying past us, and we came to draw..both sides with empty clips. We had to call a truce...as I walked closer to her...an explosion came from behind her..another team of hitmen were going after her. I then ran over and pulled her away landing on the floor with bullets flying past us. She looked at me and said "thank you"..she got up ran over to a turned desk and pulled out two uzi's. She was going crazy firing at them, and they retreated. As the smoke blew away...she walked towards me and smiled..and we went our separate ways. As my crew and I left the building we split up....I changed my clothes and bumped into some high school friends Ming and his sister Suichi. For some odd reason we were running to a destination, not sure where and why but we just needed to be there. I was wondering why we didnt take my car instead..and when I thought about it. My car was no where to be found. We were running and jumping from rooftop to rooftop, trying to get to a monument. Now that I think about it, kind of reminds me of like that movie with Nicholas Cage and his hunt for lost treasure. But I dont remember much after that...All i recall is running with them towards the park, a mile or two away from the monument... Ok anyways..finally on to the review.... So you realize how much time you spent reading about my dream right? Well imagine reading it very very slowly multiple times. That would be considered the wait time at this establishment. Now I wouldn't really care about the wait time if the food was delicious, but these burgers were dry and tasteless. What is the big deal!? Every time I come down to Sausalito this place is always packed with people lined up out the door. I see the burgers on the grill and I think "damn that must be a pretty good burger." They also put your buns on the grill to toast a bit, but I think because they take so long..the buns are cold by the time you get your burger. But a cold bun is fine if the burger tasted good! The fries...augh nothing special with them either. They taste like fries I used to get during high school lunch time. GOOD GRIEF, the more I think about it the more disappointed I am. So two tasteless dry cheeseburgers with a order of cafeteria fries and a coke. What a sorry lunch...I'm sorry I'm just really not happy with this place. Its like going some place and expecting something to be pretty good or at least decent and then realizing it was not good at all. After the meal..while walking to the car I wished I didnt come to this place, the burger I had imagined in my head before I came here was so much better...

Not worth the wait. 30 minutes for a burger is ridiculous. Just run to "In and Out" and get a double double. tastes better and is quicker!

Revolving grill, zig-zag fries, bomb burgers and just by the beautiful boardwalk in Sausalito. If you don't mind waiting in a very crowded line and most likely eat outside on a rock (pretty much 0 places to seat) then this is a definite place to go to for burger lovers.

Climb steep hills, zig-zag through aggressive and dangerously oblivious cyclists across the Golden Gate Bridge, and rush downhill side-by-side speeding vehicles on narrow roads--at the end of all the life-threatening adventure, THIS is where I go to get my post-workout fix. I've been coming here about once a year for the past 3-4 years, and this place has always whipped up a spankin' good burger. Yeah, you can't really customize your burger medium-rare, or get grilled onions, or any other fancy shit, but for their traditional burger, they do a good job at it. Their burgers are moist, made with delicious grilled (yes, super aromatic!) ground black angus beef, and it's never been overcooked (for me at least). It's tasty and satisfying, and surprisingly one of the better burger joints I've been to. Areas they could work on: more friendly customer service, consistent meat patty sizes (I got gypped with a smaller or broken piece last time!), and more burger customization options. Otherwise, so, so good--it's the only place I ever eat whenever I bike to/visit Sausalito.

Teeny tiny Seemed like it could be a diamond in the rough but the coolest thing about it was the mysterious small size of the place, and why the line was forming out the door. Not sure why the staff was so nasty, maybe they assumed no one in there spoke english (?) and could understand what they were talking about (?) (lots of Euro tourists) Burger was nothing to write home about. It's not even local meat. Kinda dry and overcooked. I'll try it once more just to confirm my thoughts. I'd save my money and go across the street to the Napa Valley burger place ;)

How is that rotating grill so intriguing? Well, when you're in line waiting to order and near drooling it's no wonder why you can't help but stare at it! Perfect meal to end a day of biking across the golden gate. Line is seriously out the door so be prepared to wait. A cheeseburger will cost you $6.60 and fries $2.45. Not an OMG burger but gets the job done. Hellooooo crinkle cut fries! :)

We tried this place when we were in Sausalito on Sunday Labor Day weekend. The place has a rotating grill they cook the burgers on which is pretty cool and attracts lots of attention. The restaurant has a very tight entry way with a mass of people lined up. If you go just ask if they are waiting on food or to order. In most cases you can squeeze in and place an order. The attendant will tell you your number than you stand around and wait for your order number to be called. It's not the best system but it works. The burger itself is very large. In many cases a couple can split a single order and be fine. They have a sign up somewhere in the shop that say's they use only premium beef from local growers. From the taste I would agree.

their menu is simple - meat, turkey or chicken burger, fries, drink. the customers are spoiled. complaining and moaing about the wait. its like DUDE look at the line out the door, the wait is going to be long. live with it and shut up or dont eat here. there is no seating here. we took our bugers to the park and sat on the grass with the dog. it was a really nice day. my turkey burger with cheese was overall pretty good. i think the bun is a bit thick but i can see how any smaller bun would not hold everything. the patty is larger than in n outs. therefore the larger bun. and its flambroiled. you can watch the rotating grill from the window outside. he grills and sprinkles seasoning. pours water on the flames. repeats. maybe they can clean the window? i cant see. haha the fries are pretty good when you eat them fresh. very crispy on the outside. soft on the inside.

So after an invigorating 11 or so miles biking from AT&T park, down embarcadero, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and into Sausalito, my friends and I decided to reward ourselves with a yummy meal to satisfy our hunger. A few of the girls opted to eat at an Italian restaurant while some others and myself decided to throw away all the calories we'd just burned from biking and have a fat juicy burger with fries and a soda :). I gotta admit, Hamburgers' rotating grill featured in front of the hole in the wall restaurant (literally) is definitely alluring--who WOULDN'T want to eat a burger after watching and smelling fresh ground beef rotate in hypnotic angles? Anyway, after a long twenty or so minute wait for our food, I was somewhat....disappointed. Nothing different about the burgers at all; in fact, if I had a cool rotating powerful grill like that at home, heck, my burgers would probably taste exactly the same. I'm not the biggest fan of a restaurant that serves food that I feel like I can make myself. And as for the fries...I think they're store bought and fried frozen...how disappointing. All in all, the hamburgers at this place aren't horrible...but definitely not mind blowing. If the line weren't so darn long and if they had more seating room, and maybe just MAYBE if the staff were a little nicer, the food would be more worth the wait.

The only thing special about this place is the rotating grill at the window of the place. You can't even choose how you want your meat cooked. The rotating grill makes the meat juicy, but I like my burger to be a bit pink in the center. The thick wavy fries were cooked perfectly. There is a sit down place all the way in the back, I think the maximum amount of ppl can be 6-8 ppl. It is very cramped, if there is a big group of ppl you're with, someone will have to order for all of you guys. I might come here again if I was in the area... but who knows.... I might want to try something else when I go back to Sausolito.

I was starving after my bike ride over the Golden Gate to Sausalito with a group of friends, so we made a stop for a burger at this hole in a wall joint. Luckily we only had a few people ahead of us but the place is so small the line is out the door after 3 people. The staff was busy flipping burgers and preparing for the long line that grew as we waited for our burgers. The burger I ordered was actually not that bad. The meat was thoroughly cooked with melted cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The fries were good. Definitely plan to eat outside since there is no room inside. There's a nice view of the bay which I rate 5 stars, and I was able to enjoy an ok burger and fries there.

Ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Burger was good. Meat nice and thick. Could use a bit more flavor but it was good. They grill it on a rotaing grill. The guy asks you what you want, you order, pay and wait. I agree with William D- very Seinfeld soup nazi-ish. Would come back again. Recomend if you want a bite to eat. $6.50 a burger

We had been here once before and thought we try again. About 11:45 am Sunday morning and there was a few people in line and all 3 tables filled up. The wife and I ordered cheese burgers and fries. On the condiments that are applied to the burgers..........like the wife said "the guy applying the stuff is acting like its GOLD" a few pieces of onion, about a teaspoon of relish, a squirt of mayo, mustard & ketchup. The lettuce and tomato were fine. The buns are kind of too thick for me. Fries are crinkle cut, I am fine with those and we got them extra crispy. So after we got our order we headed off to the car to eat.

2 words: THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED! I tried to think of all the reasons why I got stuck with such a bad cheeseburger, when everyone else gave them such high reviews. Perhaps because I went on a weekday, so the cooks must of been different? Or perhaps I didn't have to wait in line, so I wasn't starving by the time I got there? Still, none of that made any sense. Sure, I went on a random Tuesday, at an obscure 4:30PM in the afternoon. But I remember my patty being the ONLY thing on that grill. I had 3 employees devoted to my one cheeseburger, yet they still couldn't do it right! In addition, I didn't have to wait in line, so I wasn't standing there, marinating in the thought of "this burger better be worth it!" So even with my low expectations, my cheeseburger tasted overcooked and dry (even though they added ketchup and mayo to it). Not to mention, I asked them to take it off the grill early too, because I like my meat medium rare. In conclusion, NOT worth the ~$7 (and yes, that's JUST for the hamburger with the standard lettuce, tomato, onions). I would much rather have had an In-and-Out burger... it was that bad. This place is Sausalito's 'hole in the wall' burger joint that had no more than 1 or 2 tables for two. Only go if you want an expensive snack on the go. It sure didn't fill me up.

We came into Sausalito on a bike ride. I was gonna eat at Sushi Ran, but found out they were closed for lunch. We saw a crowd at this little hole in the wall place and thought why not give it a try. The menu is pretty simple. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers. Here are the reasons for my 1 star rating: 1. The manager asks my fiance to leave while we're waiting in line for our food and to pay. He screams only one customer per order. What the heck difference does it make? We saw a family ahead of us all standing together, I doubt they placed individual orders. Customer service sucks. 2. Their burgers aren't very good. A couple comments said that this is what they would find at a bbque. I would agree, because the meat was soooo bland. I could make this using costco meat!!! 3. Customer service sucks again. Manager incorrectly charges us after I looked at the receipt. We did not order fries. We tell him about it, and he gets upset but hey we didn't order it. Not my fault you couldn't listen or read your own notes. Have you ever tried Taylors or In n Out? Way better than this place.

CED: Good burger place. I got a cheeseburger with everything and fries. Pretty good. The meat was juicy and pretty big and it was pretty good. Lines are always 6 people deep or more. You can order to go and then just pick it up. It really is a tourist trap though in my opinion. I believe that anything made fresh to order is good and makes food tastes so much better. The price was $7.05 for a cheeseburger and i think $2.45 for fries (good for 2 people). Also after you get your order you should head over to the water front so you can people watch and eat ha!. give this place a 4. ANN: this joint is 'so and so". i honestly think these are average burgers that can be made at home; i probably could have made a better burger. the burger itself was big, fat, and very dry...which also tasted like it was under seasonedl. -_______- the servers were unorganized. one of the guy that was bagging a previous customers order accidentally miscounted and bagged my order to the previous customers order. so what did he do? instead of letting it go and just making me another sandwich.. he goes out the door and tries to run and catch the customer who just left. he comes back and hands me my burger. i already knew the burger he handed to me was not my order. i didnt want make a fuss about it so i just let it go. i rate this place a 2.

Hamburgers is a small shop across from the ferry that always has a line out the door whenever I walk by. The wait from order to burger is about 10-15 minutes since they make it after you order it and there normally is a queue. The workers are a bit grumpy but I'm certain it also comes from dealing with the tourist crowd that makes it way through Sausalito every day. The burgers themselves are okay. They're definitely edible but there is nothing too special about them. The buns are packed with seseme which I'm not too keen on and their fries reminds me of something you get from the hot lunch in elementary school. Not the best burgers, but give the options in Sausalito, not too shabby as well - it will at least fill you up!

This place is SOOOOO awesome! It has a spit-rotisserie-like spinning hamburger grill that you can see from the streets and people stand in a long line for their burgers- similar to standing in line for cupcakes ;) Their only down fall is serving items other than burgers (burritos, chicken sandwiches) I think if you have a great product- just go with that (a la In and Out). See pics!

I wouldn't say this is burger to eat... BUT! it sure makes you remember the last time you had a GOOD GRILLED BURGER! this place definitely made me remember back in my college days, grilling my own burgers, just as how i wanted to. dude, if you go to Sausalito, just stop by... check out the rotating grill! and if you are in the mood, take it to-go, and to go local bar.. grab a beer with it. ah~ now, that's a good grilled burger :)

There isn't really much to say other than this is an awesome traditional burger. No foie gras or anything fancy...just a classic American burger =. This place is tiny and right on the main street in Sausalito. On any given weekend you will find a healthy line here as it is one of very few places in Sausalito to get a meal for under $10.

  • Es P.

Another tourist trap. Line up was 20 deep and figured it would be good burgers. Soon discovered it was more show than substance. Burgers were freshly handmade and grilled as you order. Because of this, expect to wait at least 15 mins before you get your order. I was starving when I finally got my burger and usually scarf down my food. But the burgers in this place in spite of my hunger was thoroughly underwhelming. Under seasoned burger and the fries tasted like it came from frozen. A shame since they made so much effort to make sure the burgers were fresh.

Simple, Yummy, and nice on a sunny day. You *used* to be able to pay a little extra and eat the burger on the terrace of the Italian joint next door ( yelp.com/biz/piccolo-tea… ) not sure if that's still the case.

Why did we wait a year to review? We did have a good hamburger and the service was a little better a year before which is why we decided to go back this year. When my husband and I went there a year ago we were reminded of Seinfeld's classic the soup nazi. Unfortunately the soup nazi would have been an improvement in personalities. The staff was rude and made racist comments in Spanish. For some reason they didn't think anyone understood what they were saying, add to that a very lousy hamburger that was not prepared to what we asked for and you have a place that should be avoided at all costs. The owner should read Yelp to really find out what is going on.

Yum, call me weird, but imagining the meat is being grilled on that rotating grill at 11 pm. I'm drooling already. I totally respect for the reviewers that dislike this burger, I mean everybody has their own taste, right? I mean that is the reason why there are lots of restaurants out there, so you can make your choice. Anyway, for me this burger is cooked up to my standard. They really nail the meaning behind medium rare and medium well. I don't think their meat taste bland or overcooked. Again, people can have their words, but I know I'm a fan for this place. Heck, it's not even a restaurant ( I don't think I ever see table or chairs to eat inside? maybe there's some, but not a lot) but I know people takeaway their burgers and eat somewhere else. I won't say this would the best burger I ever had in my entire life, but it definitely worth the try if you visit Sausalito

Eh. It was okay. 2.5 stars but gave it 3 just because I think it was an off day. After reading all the reviews I was really excited to taste this burger. It must have been an off day or something cuz I've had better burgers at Red Robin's (mushroom; med-rare) (yah.. can u believe it.. only at the Concord Mall though). I felt like the cook was ready to take his break or something and wasn't paying attention to the grill. I wanted to say.. "isn't it done yet?" but kept the faith in the yelper reviews thinking, they know what their doing. I had a feeling it was over cooked but was still excited. Took the first bite and was disappointed. So I took another thinking, no wait, I didn't really taste that right. Second bite.... third bite... boo hoooo.... sinking feeling of disappointment... Sadly, I couldn't even finish the burger I was so disappointed. Maybe I hyped it up too much in my mind and it didn't translate to the palate... Well it didn't live up to it that day. I'd go back and try it one more time and say I want it med-rare. Maybe that will help. I say try it but keep an open mind.

This place was actually recommended to us by our sightseeing tour guide as we drove into Sausalito. The circular rotating grill caught our attention instantly! We arrived right when lunch time was starting so there was no wait and we were automatically asked for our order. This inside is a bit small so it almost makes more sense to each outside but other than that everything else was great. Can not complain, for a burger joint it was delicious!

YAY! a rotating grill being cooked by a mexican guy who just puts it on a bun when it's overcooked! the draw to this place is the lack of a burger in a seafood town and the burgers SUCK! dry and just BLEH! i have had better and i'm not a fan of in n out but if i had to there is one close! I PASS!

I was mesmerized. I couldn't look away. There it was...just turning around and around and around. The open-flame grill right in the window store front. A rotating grill, that's pure genius! But can it deliver a burger that will make you cry tears of joy from finally eating the ultimate burger? Well...it was good, but I've had better . The line is nuts, in fact like any good lemming, we saw the line and we had to see what the fuss was about. Stunned by the beauty of the rotating grill, we knew we had to endure the line and split at least one cheeseburger between us (as in my boyfriend and I) because even though we had planned lunch elsewhere, we could not walk away. Get ready to get cozy with your fellow hamburger buyers in line. The doorway is tight and you will be bumping into people getting in and out. It really reminded me of the Soup Nazi episode on Seinfeld. I know I've brought this up before in another review, but seriously. It had that kind of feel to it. The guys working there were not super friendly, but I didn't mind it. These guys are a well-oiled machine turning out a crap load of burgers. Oh, and for you folks ordering anything other than a burger - a la chicken sandwich. Are you mad? It's a burger joint. What is wrong with you? But I digress... We opted to order a cheeseburger with everything. Everything means mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion and relish (I think that was it). There is only one type of cheese. Looks and tastes like a jack cheese. The quality of the beef is evident. It was very tasty indeed. They also make the burgers by hand. These are not pre-formed patties. The whole time I was waiting in line, slowly edging up, I kept looking around for signage. What the heck is this place called? Outside above the door it simply says "Hamburger." The "s" must have fallen off because when I was trying to read an "InStyle" magazine review on the wall, it called the place "Hamburgers." Regardless, I liked the burger joint feel of the place and the burger was good. It just didn't blow me away.

I was not impressed with this place. I remember coming to this place as a kid and really enjoying watching the spinning grill. in retrospect, that was probably the best aspect of this place. It is a tough place to find, and if you are lucky enough to get a table, be sure to wear your coat. It's cold in there. The burger itself was fair. It was cooked over a charcoal grill, and made with good beef. It is a pretty standard burger with all the standard trimmings. Ordering is very quick. Waiting for the burger is not. Even at 11:30 on the day before Christmas Eve, it took forever. I even considered running back to the meter to add more time. When i got the burger, well, it looked like what you think a burger should look like. Sesame seed bun, fresh lettuce, tomato, etc. The thing is is the bun is so big and substantial, that it takes away from the actual taste of the burger. I guess the term would be that the bun was too bready. I'm not looking for carbs when i sit down to eat a burger. I felt I got more bread than actual burger here. The fries were actually the best part of the meal. Crinkle cut fries does perfectly, though it's not like they are hand cut anything. It gets the job done for a burger and fries, but between the time from order to table, the issues with the actual burger, and the freezing hole in the wall atmosphere, I'd pass on this place.

Wow, this place makes a friggen great burger! Best burger I've had in a very long time. The burgers are made from Angus beef that's grass fed and they are organic. My burger was bursting with juices and were quite flavorful. The fries were crisp and perfect. I'm actually glad that I went to this place but would have never guessed it existed. It's literally a hole in the wall, which usually are the best kind, and there are only 5 tables in the back which you can not see. I almost didn't give this place a try because I couldn't see the seating and I had just biked 6 miles. I was rather exhausted. I never eat all of the food I order and this time I ate all of my burger and most of my fries that were shared with my BF. One thing I would recommend to the owner of the establishment, pickles. Get them! Pickles and burgers go hand in hand! That is all.

This is a run-down, hole-in-the-wall tiny burger joint. The long line caught our attention while we were strolling down the street. Went back to get our burger after lunch hour, no long line and the burger was very good! Juicy! But the people work there are not too friendly.

Amazing burgers! No place to really eat inside.

This place is totally worth the line -- especially if you "earned" your burger by biking over the bridge! Recipe for a GREAT weekend adventure: 1. Rent a bike by the wharf (several places to choose from but I did Blazing Saddles) 2. Bike across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito 3. Eat at Hamburgers (and go all out!) 4. Ferry home with a big smile I have eaten at Hamburgers several times now and it never disappoints. The space is small but given how nice the weather usually is in Sausalito, it's never a problem to eat outside and watch the bay. I'm honestly getting hungry just thinking about it!

This place is awesome. Such a simple, solid burger. I regularly make trips here when I'm in San Francisco. My friend and I will drive from Burlingame to get these burgers. Usually we order one post-hiking in Muir Woods... which is an incredible combination. Just don't eat one BEFORE you hike. Honestly it's not the best you'll ever have but it's definitely worth a taste when you're in the area.

Wow, can't believe all the negative reviews on the food. I have been coming here off and on since 1994 and the burgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs have always been awesome. Sounds like crappy staff have brought it down. I stopped in about a year ago and the burgers were still awesome: crispy charbroiled on the outside, juicy on the inside, toasty seeded bun....better than "the counter" actually when you are talking about fat burgers. Maybe its best when there is no crowd of tourists? And hey, just grab your food and walk over to the park or the fountain and eat!

So I have finally tried the famous Sausalito Hamburgers. Ehhh... At first it looks like it would be really good. I mean flaming rotating grill, how can you beat that. But when you wait for 10-15 mins and they forget to put on some of the mediocre toppings to begin with on a massively huge bun. WHERE'S THE BEEF!!! Don't do it man... Don't do it...

Some what reminicent of a Seinfeld Soup Nazi episode... Line out to the curb & the gal behind me in line places an order for six cheese burgers. The guy behind the counter continues to take three more orders behind six burger order gal, writing down the order in sequence on waxed paper the finished burgers are wrapped in. Six burger order gal then changes the order on two of the six original orders. A couple more orders are placed & six burger order gal's friend decides to adjust the original order again. The guys behind counter gets pissed & points to the sign(You read paper!!!!) Thought he was going to say "no burger for you today" Meaning while you have just been standing in line for the past twenty minutes ,maybe you could look @ the very simple menu and have your order ready to be placed so the three guys sweating behind the counter can attempt to keep up with all the customers? Not the best customer service ,but come on lady pay attention...!! Back to the burgers....3.5 stars for a pretty good, thick, perfectly charred, charcoal infused burger, fresh off the spinning grate right @ the front window to of this super narrow hole in the wall. The fresh baked, sesame seeded buns(then toasted on above mentioned spinning grille)may have been the star of the whole thing. The place could double the current aprox 50 sq ft hallway layout & still be as busy as they would want to be. Burger & fries $9.86 Phone in your order & they will have it ready, you just have to fight your way up to the counter to pay.

Great charbroiled burger with a bag-o-greasy fries. That's why the line is out the door and around street. That's why.

It was a beautiful weekend and I had a friend come and visit from out of town and she'd never biked across the Golden Gate before so we decided to do that on Saturday. We planned to get lunch in Sausalito so when when we got there at 2:00 PM, we were really hungry. We ended up parking our bikes across from Hamburgers saw the line took a quick look in the window to see what it was all about. The meat on the rotaing grill look really juicy so we decided to get in lone. I thought that the line couldn't take that long since the menu was so simple. Boy was I wrong. It was a very very busy Saturday and it took me a little less than an hour to finally get my food. Many of the people in front of me were getting orders for their groups. After finally getting our food, we decided to sit in a little grassy area near the water. I had gotten a cheeseburger with fries. I will have to say that it was a pretty good burger. The meat wasn't overcooked and very juicy. They hand make the patties before they put it on the grill so the meat fell apart very nicely and wasn't as dense as most preformed patties. The fried were great too, nicely crisp, just need a bit more salt. So was it worth the wait? Not that day. I'd stop by again if it was on a weekday when there is less of a wait, but not ever again on a busy July Saturday.

I love Yelping my way through life and discovering places I would otherwise NEVER have walked into! Hamburgers is just such a place. It is super small, there is a long line and very little seating room (10 seats). I would have just walked on by. But as usual, my fellow Yelpers set me straight. Simply put....this is a great (not the best) hamburger joint. I was tempted to try the steak sandwich but had to go with the tried and true, boy was I pleased! If you are a Texas grad and burger aficionado like me, it I'll remind you of the GM Steakhouse on the Drag in Austin. Servers are supposed to be a bit surly, but were just too nice to be rude, especially to the elderly woman in front of me. They were so kind to her, it made me love this place before I ate a bite. Eddie, you are the best! So here is my lowdown--- Liked: simple menu (8 items), uber fresh ingredients, organic, never frozen meat, open grill and prep so you really see what is going on, HOT fries, delicious sesame seed bun and the nicest guys behind the counter! What I'd do if I owned the place: I would've liked a little more salt on my meat while grilling (but that can vary from cook to cook). That's it I can't think of anything else! So if you are in Sausalito don't walk on by, just get in line!

Good burgers in this tiny narrow hole-in-the wall but was it worth standing in line for 45 minutes?! This place would make a great psychology experiment. Are the burgers really that good that they draw a big line? Or is it because the place is so small and narrow that you have to form a line out the door? And then because people see a huge line, do they think it must be really good and then the crowd attracts more of a crowd? (And the luscious-looking burgers on the rotating grill in the window doesn't hurt either.) So yes, we saw the big line and rotating burgers and succumbed to crowd behavior. Waited for 45 minutes standing. Took 15 minutes just for them to take our order and it was torture seeing the burgers being made in front of you for all the others ahead of you in line. With a huge rotating grill, you would think they could be a lot faster but they aren't. And the main (serious) guy has a very specific system and doesn't like it when you order to early or screw up his system - he truly was the burger nazi (like the soup nazi on Seinfeld). We finally got our burgers and they were very satisfying, probably more so because we were starving and tired from standing in line for so long. And despite the griller watching over them constantly, they were overcooked and well done. Bottom line: Would I stand 45 min in line again for these good but not phenomenal burgers? Hell no. But I'd definitely call in and order ahead of time (as they recommend). 3.75 stars.

Sorry to say that this place is overrated. Read the reviews and stood in the long ass line. I figured this place must be pretty good. But alas I bit into my burger only to find it to be dry and a bit tasteless. Oh and I asked for extra cheese...they didn't honor my request. Minus 2 stars buddy.

Probably one of the best $6 burgers in the bay area! They ground their meat fresh every morning and the round rotating charcoal grill cooks them to perfection. The fries are also amazing! This place is the main reason to visit Sausalito.

WHAT THE HELL IS THE HYPE ON THIS PLACE?! My friend and I visited Sausalito for some escape from San Francisco. It was a beautiful day and we had a great view of San Francisco from the other side of the bay. Since we arrived there around lunch time, we were shopping for some foods. We were walking around and saw a massive line outside of this small burger joint. I had no idea what the hype is. You can see the staff grilling the meat from the outside but can't really tell why this place attracts so many people. I had to find out. I waited about 30 minutes just to order a cheeseburger. A cheeseburger and a small drink cost me $8.30 - which I think is outrageous price. I guess when there isn't any burger place nearby, they can afford to jack up the price for simple supply/demand. We got the burgers and headed out to park nearby. The place has two tables and is extremely small for us to dine-in. You almost have to be play like a running back, holding onto your burger bag for dear life and fight for customers in line in order to exit the restaurant and out to freedom! WTF. I had to work too much; wait, order, be a running back, and sit outside with ketchup for my fries to eat this burger. Oh by the way, it's nothing special! I come from Washington DC and we have at least 5 places that are better than this stupid little joint but I bet this place gets more revenue because so many people are checking out and try just to find out how great it is but end up disappointed. I was a victim. If you are really curious, have absolutely nothing to do for 45 minutes, then go ahead, be my guest. Otherwise, move on.

Decent burger from a place I've been to several time in the past eight or so years. It's been about two years or so since I was last here. Same stuff, same way of cooking/ordering. Cheeseburger, fries, came out to be about $12. Good bun and orida type fries. Yum.

What's the word for the opposite of claustrophobia? Claustrophilia? Anyway, unlike most, I tend to enjoy small spaces. I prefer small cars, tiny apartments, airplane bathrooms, etc. This must be one of the reasons I liked Hamburgers- the place is tiny! The line out the door is usually an indication of quality food, and this place doesn't disappoint. The burgers are good. Not creatively fantastic, but tasty and juicy. Definitely a step above fast food, but not gourmet either. After riding my bike from SF, the turkey burger I had definitely got the job done. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the location. Overall, next time I'm in the area and craving a burger on a park bench, I'll stop again.

  • Jackie N.

Squeeze in and enjoy the show. This place is a true pearl. A substancial slab of prime meat on a fantastic bun. And the fries... mmmm. Look, gourmet dining it is not, but if you are in the mood for a classic burger, this is the place.

My experience was mixed. I went in on a weekday afternoon. The place is tiny, which is cool and unique. I stood in line and ordered my burger. I waited and watched as the employees did their thing. One person grilling the burgers, one putting them together, and one working the register. The guy grilling the burgers seemed to be in a horrible mood. He was short and snippy to everyone. Yeah, some of the customers weren't the most polite, but that's tourists for you. I listened as the guy managing the register received a complaint from a customer. The fries were cold. The politely took them back and tossed them, giving the customer new fries (perfect response). The guy running the grill got upset when he heard there was one less order of fries available to sell. He got mad at the cash register guy and proclaimed the fries weren't cold. A verbal argument ensued until the grill guy just ignored the cash register guy. I felt bad for him.. he did the right thing and got in trouble from the guy in charge. Once I finally got out of there, I walked across the street to enjoy my burger. The burger was fine.. not spectacular, but not bad. For the price and being able to sit by the bay and eat, I was satisfied. Nothing more. Will I go back? Yeah, if I'm in the area and craving a burger. Will I drive to Sausalito for it? No way.

Yes, they make hamburgers here. Awesome, juicy pieces of perfection that you can watch being grilled right in front of your eyes. I recently moved over to Sausalito from SF and I was glad to find a little hole in the wall so close to home that A) was affordable B) Not too tourist oriented and C) Actually very tasty. But what makes me most happy about this place is the fact that they also turn out some pretty decent burritos. Yes, burritos. They grill the steak pieces right alongside those hamburgers. Then they chop it up and roll it up with some beans, rice, cheese and veggies. Good salsa, too. It's not taqueria fast, because they grill everything to order, but the taste is worth the wait. Pretty much the only thing I miss about living in the City is the proximity to excellent mexican food. And so far, a burrito from Hamburgers seems to fill the void nicely.

  • Liz K.

Okay Yelpers, I have to admit, I don't quite understand the fuss. This was good, but I don't think worth the 20min wait in line. Burger was cooked evenly, but I didn't think it had much flavor and certainly wasn't juicy. Cheese was nondescript. Best thing about this experience were the fries - crinkle cut, perfectly crispy and salted. Mmm. Glad I finally tried this, but for my burger cravings, we'll continue to go to Pearl's.

Maybe I should've eaten the burgers. damn. I got the Beer braised BBQ chicken. It was pretty good, but pretty regular. The caramelized onion had some soy sauce in it. I think this place is asian owned. This was one of the cheap places to eat in Sausalito, so its not terrible as a cheap alternative.

Located on the prime location on Bridgeway with hundreds of tourists each day, you can't miss this tiny burger place with a long line. It's a perfect example of selling the 'right' stuff at the right place. You don't find many 'hot snack' places within a 10 minute radius (Ice cream doesn't really count). It's either this or the fancy restaurants with a breathtaking view. I chose not to pay for the view at the restaurant but buy a burger and sit on the lawn on a beautiful sunny day. This place completely changed my mind about places with lines. I mean hands down on the Lappert's Ice Cream. That wait was totally worth it. I waited 20 minutes for 2 dry burgers, fries was the same ones as those you get from a supermarket's freezer. I really had high hope for this place. And the cheese burgers at $6.60 was a complete rip-off. I'd be 10 times more satisfied with the 3-dollar meal at McD. This is a tourist trap where people should avoid.

  • Connie C.

Talk about a major disappointment. We've been here to Sausalito before and this place always has a huge long line, so we figured we'd try it out. The wait for these burgers was ridiculous. Yes, it's cool to see them grilling your burger through the window, but I can't believe how long we had to wait!!!! After an eternity of waiting, my bf and I bit into our burgers and we were both like "are you serious?? this is what we were waiting for??" Complete Fail. We will not be coming back!

  • Adam S.

Terrible burger by comparison to almost any other place. Overcooked, sloppy, and simply not tasty. If you are super hungry then maybe this is worthwhile except it's also far slower than you would expect.

  • steve B.

The guy that runs this tiny shop definitely needs to chillax uptight ahole. Maybe he has a reason. We were in Sausalito for 4 hours and he had a line out the door the whole time at least ten deep but the product he puts out is very good the hamburgers taste like a fresh homemade back yard BBQ at its best simple but damn good with a nice toasted bun. Tip be on your best behavior or no burger for you today.

  • Alison L.

It is what you get: a good, simple burger burger from a teeny tiny place. The meat is a well proportioned mix of who-knows-what -- it's quite tasty and cooked properly to maintain its juiciness. That said, it's not amazing but will leave you satisfied. Note: there are basically no facilities at the restaurant -- which obviously has no reflection on the quality of the food!

  • MTBer I.

Simple, perfectly cooked, juicy, savory, mouth watering burgers with a wait that will either sharpen your appetite or steer you away. This place has great burgers and if your local, come here on a weekday and avoid the tourist rampage on the weekends. My only gripe, the fries suck.

    (4)
  • David S.

This place is the best! Every time I go back to SF I try to get to Sausalito to eat here.

  • Jean K.

This is really the only place to eat in Sausalito. Well known among locals, Hamburgers is located across the street from the ferry terminal. With a rotating grill in the front window, you can't miss it. They serve good hamburgers for only $6.40. For a little more you can get a cheeseburger with Finnish Lappi cheese (I have no idea why they picked this cheese). Fries are extra. What better way to end a long bike ride out here than a burger eaten while enjoying the views of the bay? CASH ONLY

I was there five years ago and I can still remember that burger. One of the best I ever had. Worth a visit. Next time I'm in Frisco, I'm headed there.

By far my favorite burger I've had in the city. Everyone I've taken there LOVE it. Just be prepared-- sometimes at lunch there is a line down the street. Get the cheeseburger and crinkle fries to go and walk down the street and eat it at the marina. (There are picnic tables there.) Makes for a nice little picnic! My mouth is drooling just looking at the picture of those juicy burgers on the grill! Mmm.

  • Morgan T.

BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!!!! A TOTAL WASTE OF MY 20$. DON'T EVER GO THERE. The cheese burger: BAD! The Steak sandwich: BAD! The staff keep chatting behind the counter, we waited so long for the burgers while the shop was empty......And we got our burgers after the 3rd customers behind us got theirs. This shop sucks!

    (1)
  • Grant L.

Hamburgers with an outside view looking at the rotating grill. Ooo that alone gets mad props from me. When you get the burger, it's perfectly juicy from something opened on an open flame and the fries are not bad either. I would recommended this place if you're ever biking or driving into Sausalito.

  • Joel Y.

The smell and the window display of sizzling hand shaped patties really caught my attention here. I mean... honestly, at a place called "hamburger" how can it be bad, right? I was a feast for the eyes. A mom and pop shop in the charming strip of Sausalito. The burger is hand shaped and cooked at medium well. Topped with some mild Danish cheese and the works and you have yourself a big bad juicy burger. Add a bag of fries and you are good to go. I would have liked the burger to be seasoned a bit better, however the anticipation of watching your burger be made just makes you hungrier and hungrier. You first eat with your eyes, right? Great place. Would recommend this to anyone interested in a meaty burger across the GG Bridge.

Disgusting. We paused briefly in front of the window where you could see the burgers and chicken being cooked. The man working the grill had awful dirty fingernails, no gloves. When I mentioned it out loud the couple behind us decided to move on and eat somewhere else. Here's the kicker: The cook wiped his ungloved hand up under his dripping nose and then touched the food! I shrieked! Looks like the California Health Department needs to make a visit here and do a little food handling seminar. Disgusting.

On our trip to San Fransisco, as tourists we HAD to take one of their city tours. The tour guide recommended us this hot spot for their delicious burgers (he has to be the best friend, owner, or a relative of this joint). The rotating grill was fun to see and I didn't not like it. It was a decent cheeseburger but nothing too extraordinary. There's usually a long line of tourists so get off the tour bus and run for it if you want to catch the free ferry in the next half hour!

there is an autographed photo of the soup nazi, on the wall. no joke. I'm sure they tried to adapt the same nazi service, cuz it sucks. they're only able to cook 10 burgers every 12 mins-15 mins, which explains the long lines. 100% fresh organic, veggie fed, never frozen beef, that's cool... but i was disappointed. just an average-tasting lean burger. nothing special. fries were ok great, coke was a bit flat. not worth the 30 min wait. oh man, did i just wait half an hr for fast food??? im so dumb.

    (3)
  • N S.

Burgers = second to none (the fries were average though). Wait = second to none (i.e. very long). Burgers are about $6-8. Made with excellent fresh, free range produce (meat etc). Sooo tasty. Be prepared to wait up to 30 mins in line with all the tourists for a burger though. While waiting I was convinced no burger could be worth the wait..... but then again by the time I got my burger and started eating it I changed my mind. edit: I should add that I think the cheese they put in the hamburger is from Finland or something. Sooooo good. It would be 5 stars if not for waiting in line with all the tourists.

The concept is great, but..staff is rude, wait time is looooong, & the burgers are pretty tasteless. I don't recommend & wouldn't go back.

The first time my family and I visited Sausalito back in the early '90s, we caught the whiff of juicy grilled meats from afar and followed our noses to Hamburgers. With our faces pressed to the window providing a view of the rotating grill, we waited hungrily for our burgers to be served. And when they arrived, we bit into them while sitting cross-legged in the grass in a park not too far away, and that moment was seared permanently into our memories. Such a great burger. We became regulars to the sleepy city of Sausalito and its little burger joint. Twelve years later, with a seven-thousand-mile move, middle school, high school, another seven-thousand-mile move, and college under my belt, I visited Sausalito again, making a point of retracing those footsteps made so many years back. I ordered a cheeseburger, waited with my face pressed to the glass, sat down cross-legged in the park, bit into the burger, and instantly, I was twelve again, captured in the warm glow of my family and the innocent bliss of childhood. In summary, a solid four stars for the food, and one extra star for a combination of: 1) Dollops of nostalgia whenever I visit. 2) The ideal location for a burger joint.

    (5)
  • Stephen W.

This is a truly excellent burger. I assumed this was a tourist trap for a while until I heard that this was one of the best burgers in the bay area. I have to agree. I live in SF and I am often in Sausalito for sailing and I have to resist the urge to get a burger here. Based on the reviews here this place is underrated.

  • Julie B.

Ok - I'm thoroughly grossed-out. I went there a second time. But, this time just to watch. The gloved griller handled the raw meat and then went over and handled the raw tomatoes that he placed on the buns with his same gloved (now contaminated) hand. I was ill. There is truly unsafe food handling in this establishment and someone needs to be notified. See my previous Yelp.

    (1)
  • Christopher Y.

Sorry, I really wanted to enjoy the burgers here yet they are not that good! -although seemingly fresh, the meat was not very flavorful -the buns looked pretty good but also lacked taste -the condiments/dressing selections were very standard and boring - the wait can be long - no joke about the manger being the "Soup (Burger) Nazi" After passing this place dozens of times, and seeing the line streaming out the door during lunch and on the weekends, I expected something worth my near 20 minute, standing in the doorway, wait! Granted, the food options in Sausalito area a bit limited, and mostly tend to be expensive, so it would seem that a tasty little hole-in- the-wall fast-foodish burger place would do well... Yet, it is now my conclusion that this place does well only because it appears to be good (lines out the door), it appears to be fast (just grab a quick 20 minute burger to go?), and it appears to be inexpensive (my cheeseburger and fries without drink were just under $10.00, not a fortune but still way too much for a bad burger) For my taste, time, and money I have to admit that In and Out has a way better thing going on. Next time I have a burger craving, and want to enjoy the sunshine and tourist scene in Sausalito, I'll get an In and Out burger, fries, and drink to go and I'll still have a little left over to grab an ice cream cone at Lappert's for dessert! If I'm feeling a bit more flush, and want a top-notch burger experience in Sausalito, the place to go is Le Garage for their Kobe Beef Burger!! Now this is worth every penny of the $16.00 price!! YUMMMMMMY!

stinkin' good burgers. worth the trek across the bridge. for a glimpse of the city by the bay emerging from the fog. and a juicy, oozing, flavorful piece of nom nom burger, crisp lettuce, and perfectly toasted bun. don't stress about parking and just pay in the lot by the Bank of America (it's way cheap compared to the city!) and cop a squat along side the water with your burger in hand and cold drink in the other. if it's cold out, bundle up baby. or squeeze through to the 10 seats in the back of the joint. be sure baby doesn't go hungry b/c there isn't an easy way to heat up any milk! Mama Di approved!*

  • Cristina M.

Price was decent, burgers were delicious...everything tasted fresh and the service was fast and the people were great. Thankfully I didn't have to experience the long line everyone speaks of. There isn't much room inside to sit, so plan on finding another place to sit and eat your juicy burger. The location is really nice...Sausalito is a small cozy little bayside town. The place may be a little difficult to find while your driving...if you've passed the fountain in the little park area (going towards the GGBridge), you've gone too far.... it'll be on your right hand side. Just look for the rotating grill in the front window. If you want well done you're going to have to ask for it because all the burgers are made medium-well. Really good little hamburger joint, probably the best I've had.

When in $au$alito, do as the A$N Cheap$ter$ do to pinch a penny on your meal in this touri$ty $trip of town. Head to Hamburger$. Yes it is the be$t value bite in town, and also the cheape$t only becau$e it it'$ $o low tech compared to the alternative$$ (that dim $um restaurant by the waterfront down the $treet is goners, anyone remember its name? UPDATE: Thanks Diane P! It was called North Sea Village. I only went a few times for lunch, although the view ended up being more spectacular than the food. This was during the 90s, the chicken feet was greasy and unrefined as hell) If you are still hungry, then walk down the street to Lappert's Hawaiian style ice cream for the complete cheap touri$t experience.

Terrible experience!!! Terrible experience!!! We waited in a long line and told the "chef" our order - two hamburgers and one hot dog. Then we waited for 15 minutes to meet the cashier. The lady asked me to pay for two hamburgers. I told her there was one more hot dog. She suddenly checked the sheet "chef" wrote down and replied "the order showed two hamburgers only. If you'd like to place another order, it has to be after others' !" I was really shocked and decided not to argue with her at that moment for a simple reasons. The line behind me was just way long. I simply did not want to ruin others' holiday. I just want to tell you how frustrated I'm right now! They really don't know how to trust their customers and treat them well. I doubt that Britney love those hamburgers from the bottom of her heart. The lady seems to believe that their "chef" would never make any mistake while taking orders. What's the big deal for adding a hot dog for their customer even if they forgot to order one before? Not to mention I did order the above for sure. Please make your own sandwiches before you come to Sausalito. F..............0 STAR

This place is reputed (including YELPERS) as having excellent Angus burgers. Having waited in a long line and talking to those around me, one coming from many miles away to get his "Hamburgers Fix", I was expecting so much more than what I got. The hamburgers we got were uniformly DRY and overcooked--like extra well done but a char broiled burned taste as a bonus. Watching the harried cook, it was obvious that every chance he had he pressed and pressed these burgers dry. What a shame.... Fries were OK but went cold and uninteresting too soon. Fresh everything else, buns, lettuce, etc. but HEY! this is about BURGERS and in that one critical category, these guys get a D grade. Go to M&Gs in Fairfax instead.

Not bad for a burger, and I would recommend anyone visiting give this a shot. I'm from out of town and smelled the wonderful scent as I hoofed the street looking for a place to grab a quick bite. I've definitely had better, but this place worked out well. Burger tasted good, tho a bit on the charcoal-y side. And, the fries, though a rather large serving, were hard to resist.

Throughout the years, I must have passed by this place at least 50 times, always saying to myself, "Next time, I'll grab a burger from this place." I usually just end up eating at a restaurant when I'm in the area. Finally, this past weekend I tried it out. And I was so disappointed. I kept eating it just to make sure that I wasn't missing anything. I tried attacking it from various angles and different combination of ingredients... and nope, no hidden bite that burst with flavors. It was just bland... overcooked... and dry. Olfactory marketing is a hell of a thing. Put some meat on the grill and watch the magical line start to appear. It resembled what a good burger should be and made me crave for one of those Prather Ranch burgers from the Ferry Building. The fries were okay.

A pretty good burger. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 if it was in the city, but because it is out of the city 4 out of 5. Very close to the Ferry too so that's also great!

This place is just called Hamburger. It's small and narrow, and they take orders until the grill is full. There are lines like everyone says because well, the place is small. They have a system though, and it works, but be prepared to wait. Even though this place is called Hamburger, they also serve steak sandwiches, turkey burgers, and burritos. Since I don't eat burgers, I had a turkey burger. It was decent, but I suppose it's not really one of the specialties since the place is not called Turkey Burger. Fries are also not really their forte. They have crinkle cut fries that come in one size, enough for two. Unless you really love fries no matter what, then you can eat one. Although there is not much room to eat inside, at least there's a nice park-ish area across the street (only good if weather does not suck).

I love burgers, and in Sasulito that they charge an arm and a leg for even a glass of water this is the place to go. First of all don't panic when you see the long line. The line moves fast, and it is so worth it. With the smell of burgers, and watching the round grill (the whole time you are waiting in line!!) you be pretty damn hungry by the time you get your order. The meat is fresh, free of hormones, and no preservatives. How awesome is that?? The burgers are big, and get it with cheese is the only way. The fries are really crispy and yummy, one bag is enough for two people. Another thing that they offer and you may not think to try but you should, is their veggie burrito!!! it is HUGE!!! and sooooooo yummy. nothing like any one had before. I say, get a burger and burrito and share it! (or Not!) This is really the only place to eat in Sasulito, and so worth it. If you can not find a space to sit inside get it to go and cross the street and eat it by the water, plenty of benches, and seating area with beautiful view.

2 hungry people wanted burgers. they were juicy and delicious, pretty much the perfect burger... BUT I am knocking off one point for the euros, the long line, AND my cheese was not completely melted (mainly b/c they give you such a thick slice)

the cheese is 1/4" thick. Best cheeseburger I've ever had.

Pros: grilled meat patty was medium and juicy, nice light smoky flavor, good cheese, toasted bun, fresh tomatoes and lettuce. Cons: meat patty needs more salt, bun taste was lacking though better than your franchise burger joints but that's not saying much, the included relish should have been switched out for pickle slices. The fries were cooked well but seemed like the frozen kind but my rating is for the burgers only. At $6.60, I was expecting a more well rounded burger. The overall flavor did not wow me as much as Five Guys in Richmond, which included bacon, sliced pickles, sauteed onions & sauteed mushrooms for a cheaper price. Now that place knows how to construct a tasty burger!

Tourist trap basically. It is fresh but under seasoned sirloin patty (even though it is a good size) is a bit much for a burger that is around 7 or 8 bucks. The grill was amusing to look at while you wait in the line (took almost an hour to get the food). The price is way too much for such a low quality burger. One star for the cool looking grill and freshness of the burger.

I have this theory that if you are going to name your business after the one thing you specialize in- you better make that product great and Hamburgers has done that. They offer chicken sandwiches and burritos, but every time i walk into this place i am compelled to order a burger. They don't offer tons of toppings like pickles, bacon or grilled onions, but that is because they've perfected the art of the burger. It's a lunch time favorite for me and I'll continue to go there.

This One Word Diva establishment called "Hamburgers" lives up to it's name. The circular exhibitionist grill is a nice touch to entice any hungry person. I visited this place a couple years ago and the experience is like it was yesterday. The cheeseburger or I shall call it the "Holy Cow," for the amount of ground beef and cheese they use to put in it makes any grown man cry. But it's not just the size of the cheeseburger, it's their secret seasoning in the burger that makes it soo good. The grillers or grillardins( which ever makes them feel good) have a cocky swag that backs up their commitment to make a really good burger. Cocky swag I can deal with, pretentiousness I can't stand. What makes it even more hilarious about their attitude towards customers. Is that if you look up on the wall while you wait in a long line to get this burger. There is this photo of the Soup Nazi like the one in the Seinfield's episode: The Soup Nazi. 5 stars for the tantalizing CheeseBurger and 5 Stars for the Satire

Pretty good burgers, and really really good fries! This is a run-down, hole-in-the-wall, yet tourist filled establishment. C'mon..tourists going to a hole-in-the-wall?! It's gotta be good for that to happen. I volunteer at the Marine Mammal Center every Sunday from 7am-4pm and we need to eat! Today we ventured into Sausalito to look for some good grub and we found it. Gotta admit, it's a bit pricey, and there's always a long line, but hey..all signs of good business. It's about $6 for every burger and an extra $2.45 for a huge bag of fries. No matter what, you need to order the fries. I ordered the turkey burger with just lettuce, tomato and ketchup. Simple, yet oh so flavorful. All the meat patties are cooked on this rotating flame grill that you can see from the sidewalk window (probably what attracts all the tourists). You can really taste the char that the meat gets from the flames - the fries are also fried to perfection - hot and fresh. The only downside to this - no, not the line (because you can call ahead if you live around there) and no, not the lack of seating (we sat outside along the ocean for a great view!). But, the service. Service was pretty horrible. Three guys - one working the grill, one taking orders, one ringing you up. Nothing against the griller, not too much to complain about the guy taking orders, but the guy collecting money, please get a personality. So monotone and apathetic. My friend and i ordered fries - she didn't get it and mentioned it, and he got a little upset, not at us, but in his demeanor. When i got my order, he asked if I got fries too, I said yes and he rolled his eyes and gave a great big sigh and grabbed a bag. There were a couple tourists from London behind us and he wasn't very polite to them either. This guy is just lucky their food is good, so people keep coming back - otherwise, they'd probably go bankrupt with his lack of respect.

A small hole in the wall with flame broiled burgers. We had the bbq chicken burger and cheeseburger, the wait for french fries was ridiculous, we had to wait for our fries along with 10 others...

This past weekend we (hubby and I) decided to explore Sausalito and the Marin Headlands, since I haven't been there since I was very little, and ended up walking past this place and noticed the line out the door. Hubby immediately goes on Yelp to see if it had any review and low and behold it did have MANY and some pretty good stars. So since we weren't that hungry we decided to split a cheeseburger. I liked that they used all natural beef and that the cheese was different than most burger places served. I did think the burger lacked some flavor, probably because the condiments were squirted in an assembly line style only directly in the middle, so until you got there it was kind of dry. The price wasn't too bad and the line wasn't too bad. Overall, I still prefer In & Out burger because they have a bit more flavor, but the burger was still very tasty and the bun was nice and toasted.

The burgers here are huge, juicy and incredibly Delicious. The beef and chicken is cooked on a revolving grill over charcoal. Excellent fries. It is popular with tourists so there is often a line but do not be discouraged! The line moves fast. Also, you can call ahead and place your order for pick up. It's a very small space so I always take my BBQ Chicken Burger to the park and enjoy the people, the birds, the water and the sunshine.

Okay....so after hearing rave reviews about this place, we went to go check it out. They remind of me of In'N'Out actually but with a thicker piece of meat in the middle. And well, the store is reaaaaaaally really tiny with like 2 tables. Luckily we were able to get seats but I felt the burger wasn't that great. The meat was a bit on the dry side. Don't see what all the raves are about. I'd rather go to In'N'Out :P

Great, great burgers. The hotdogs and fries were also fantastic. I will definitely make an effort to eat here again if ever I get back to Saulsalito. There is a pretty big wait and the place itself is pretty narrow, so be prepared to get close to other folks. We had no problem with service - it wasn't stellar but nothing to complain about. And, in the end, it is all about the food.

When I think of Sausalito, I think of this place! Their burger is a juicy caramelly OMNOMNOM! And accompanied with a bag of hot fries, oh yes. A serious Sausalito crack-in-the-wall institution. I'd be kidding myself if I didn't come here when visiting the town.

This place is so tiny and you can find it most easily by looking at the line of people standing outside the doors. How could I possible resist a mom and pop looking burger place with a line of people waiting to get a freshly made burger? This place was so small you barely had enough room to stand and order yet somehow they squeezed some chairs and small tables inside too. I felt sorry for the people eating at them because they had people in line pressed up against them while they were trying to eat. I elected not to deal with that and got mine to go. It took only a few minutes and I was on my with with a Cheese Burger and a good sized order of fries and my soda. Right across the street is a beautiful park where we found a park bench. The burger was decent not very memorable fries were pretty good but I was hoping for more after the 20 minute wait. The fries were good. I will go back and give it another shot someday if there is no long line but certainly not worth a long wait.

There are two stops that I also go to in Sausalito. Lappert's ice cream, and hamburgers. Although the name of this place is fairly simple, the hamburgers at hamburgers are pretty gosh darn good. Def a touristy place to eat, since we are a culture that's drawn to standing in line. But I do enjoy the hearty burgers here, they cook it on this rotating grill that's over a fire, you can see the cheese melting on the patties, as the patties cook on the fire and feed the fire with drops of oil that fall from the glistening patties. Super fast turn around so you'll be damned if you get a luke warm burger here, their fries portion sizes are pretty big, I ate with a big group and everyone was able to share fries and still have some left over. Walk across the street and eat in the open grassy area if the weather is nice. Or you can watch that rock dude stack rocks all day.

The Intro: Let me start by saying LTO = lettuce tomatoes and onions. There shouldn't be any confusion there. Secondly, they give you a number. Or, they say they do. They didn't give us one so we spent 20 minutes wondering what the heck our number was and closely watching the people before us (who didn't know their numbers either). All while getting dirty looks from the toppings boy. Thirdly, be prepared to be very uncomfortable. We had to catch the last ferry back to the city but had an entire half hour. We kept on an eye on the clock, but weren't worried. The Experience: We enter the doorway and wait three minutes before we're asked what we want. We tell the guy we want 2 cheeseburgers burgers with such and such on top and an order of fries. The condiments in the doorway say brown mustard...the mustard is really yellow mustard. The doorway says some kind of Finnish cheese but the menu inside says Monterey Jack... The cook took the order. The topping kid put up the toppings. I have never seen anyone look so baffled and confused about toppings. I don't know where the confusion came with LTO, but he decided that also meant mustard, mayo, and ketchup. When I asked him to take it off because I didn't want it, he looked at the "LTO" and back at me, with the dirtiest, rudest, most unwelcoming face I have ever had the distaste of seeing. What a stupid kid. It's hamburger toppings, not particle physics. I have worked many retail jobs in all sectors and I must say, no matter what you do, no matter how you screw up, if you're on an hourly salary, YOU'RE GETTING PAID ON MATTER WHAT. So, if you screw up and have to redo it, BIG FLIPPING DEAL. You're still getting paid. So what if it's a dinner rush? Everyone who is there sees the line and is prepared to wait. Don't sacrifice your integrity or quality because you can't get a grip. So the kid's trying to put together the burgers in a ridiculously slow, assembly line fashion, while half the burgers ARE ALREADY TOPPED WITH MEAT. Seriously, they're getting cold, you're leaving them there for five minutes because you're having such terrible difficulty figuring out how to slap toppings onto a burger (with two hands...wtf). So he takes his two hands and places big juicy tomatoes on all the burgers, except me and my friend's. Me and my friend get two super skinny tomatoes with green crap in the middle (you know what I'm talking about...the green crap that you're supposed to cut out because it ruins an ENTIRE sandwich). I have the worst of it so I ask for a different tomato (I'm not waiting 20 minutes in line and watching your retarded ass screw up my 7 dollar hamburger). There's that disgusting look again. So all the people ahead of us have no idea what their number is and one dude grabs the wrong bag and runs out and topping boy goes "well run and get it". So this poor guy has to chase the dude and even comes back to leave the boy a dollar tip! The Food: You can definitely taste the charcoal yum! It was cooked perfectly medium rare/medium. Unfortunately, our burgers were cold by the time we got to the ferry so I'm not going to hold that against the score. Their onions were cut crescent-shaped which not only reduces the number of them you can put on the burger because they are hard to handle, but also results in lots of them falling off (and topping boy throwing them away). You don't even taste them. The cheese also had no taste. The bun is a HORRIBLE sesame seed bun that is thick and spongy with overpowering yucky flavor. The fries were crinkle fries. I'm 99.99999% positive they came from a frozen bag. They were inedible. They get 2 stars because the beef patty itself was so good. They clearly skimped on everything else, especially the service. I think the toppings boy was very very stoned (not that I've never had good stoned service before...because I definitely have at every Nordstrom Cafe I've ever been to). After daydreaming about this place since the first time I saw it six months ago, I am sorely disappointed and will never go there again.

It was coo. I wish it was a little bit more juicy... I loved the fries, kinda disappointed it closes @ 5 on weekdays but nevertheless a nice place to go. Funny... The guy completely forgot they served turkey burgers. They have turkey, chicken, beef and a burrito (burrito is a little random) but lovely.

My burger pretty much lived up to all the hype I had heard about this place. The burgers here are pretty simple - even with all available fixin's on top - but very filling (I highly recommend ordering with cheese). They serve some other kinds of sandwiches here but why bother with anything besides their burgers? The fries are just average but served in generous portions. They are open only from 11 to 5 I believe, they have a very tiny, dark, and un-charming dining area with just a few seats, you will definitely want to do carry-out if you can. I'm not sure that I'd recommend going out of my way to eat here, but if you are in Sausalito anyway, Hamburgers offers one of the better values in the area for a simple & filling meal.

Burgers were just the thing after biking from Sam Francisco, but the service was really what stood out. I've never seen such nice, generous, and cordial guys working at a burger joint.

I think it is one of the better burgers in the bay, and at the same time definitely one of the most overhyped burgers in the bay. It is a counter lineup and wait burger joint. It is great. Also a relatively quick lunch. It's solid, for sure, but don't go in with "best burger in the world" hopes. Their fries however.... it's like they punch you in the face with deliciousness.

ok, so this is one of 2 places (the other is Lappert's Ice Cream) i always go to after my bike ride over from The City. cuz that ride is a beast of a ride, somewhere in the range of 10 miles from wherever my starting point is i think? but with that bike ride comes my appetite. no better way to work up an appetite than a beautiful long bike ride across the bridge and then top that off with one of the awesomest burgers around. everytime i walk down Bridgeway and see the burger patty's rotating in the window, i just cant help myself and walk inside this hole-in-the-wall with the other legions of people who got sucked in by the aroma and the rotating burger patty grill in the window.

This place is a tiny hole in the wall. Its called Hamburgers. It sells Hamburgers. Who woulda thunk it? I have been going here for many many years now. I used to work in sausalito, so this would be the spot to go for lunch every so often. Great burgers, and the cheese is really good on it too. The trick is to call in your order because it does take about 10 to 15 minutes for them to make your order. But the food and all the toppings are all so fresh. Threes always a line here, so when i walk in, everyone says, "Theres a line you know!" and i always say, "Yeah, thats why i called in my order!" and walk to the front of the line and smile. I learned that you ask them for peperchinis and those make the burger taste even better. And the fries are thick and crispy waffle cut bites of goodness too. So after you get your food, you walk past the line of people and laugh. Then you walk either to the fountain or by the ferry landing and sit down on a bench or the steps, and eat. Make sure you get extra napkins, cuz it does get a lil messy. I remember i was on vacation, reading a magazine about the best burgers in California, and this place was mentioned. I said. Holy cow, i eat there all the time. And the next time i went here, i saw the review framed on their wall. This is definitely a nice place to go, even if you have to drive across the bridge. Its peaceful and serene in sausalito. And good burgers calm my nerves.

Yup. It's worth the extra mileage from San Francisco, the usage of expensive California gas, and the $5 toll that gets added to the burger price. It's definitely worth fighting with the tourists for parking and sidewalk space. It's even worth the 30 minute line. Yup. And of course, it's worth the 20 minute wait for the burger after you order. Yup. Although, I'm still trying to figure out if it's worth it if I'm starving/craving the burger when I get into my car from San Francisco...

This is the BEST Burger in Marin! Consistently GREAT! It is well worth the wait and don't forget the bag of fries, extra crispy... used to work there in High School and a little after... Good Times!!!!

Went here for the first time ever today: best burger I ever had. Tasty, juicy, and the cheese... FROM FINLAND!!! I also love that the Soup Nazi has been there, as well as Britney Spears. But I don't think she was actually there, but there's a copy of her In Style Magazine cover, and a little snippet. But it says "Thanks Britney, come back!" (Either way, I think Britney Spears really should visit that place anyway. She would benefit from it.) The setup is kind of cramped, but I think their system works well enough. There was some guy ahead of us today who was complaining because someone behind him got their burger before him, and he felt that it was necessary to complain. He stayed anyway---burgers are just too good. I don't really figure myself to be someone to go to Sausalito often, but I think Hamburgers is worth the trip. If you don't like burgers, they also have a burrito! It's basically a no-nonsense burger joint: you get a burger, fries, and a drink... so if you're a simpleton such as myself, then this is the place for you.

  • Kimi N.

Simple. Cheap. Tasty. They lure you in with the spinning window display of grilling, smokey burgers. The order taker is fast and efficient. The inside seating is best when not used...there is so much outside to enjoy that sitting in the cramped back area seems lackluster. Though they put on your burger what you ask for, they don't put much of it and it's all in one place on your bun. So if you like condiments, get extra. The meat was good but could have used more salt. A single order of fries was plenty for two people to share. Open everyday 11-5pm.

Nothing special.. just ordinary burger, however, I must say that they win on the charcoal grill burger.. makes the meat taste smokey and yummy. But, I've tasted it somewhere else, too?! So, you get he point!

A true hamburger lover doesn't believe in the concept of the "Gourmet Burger." Ha. Gourmet Burger. C'mon. You know what I'm talking about. We've all seen the headlines on CNN: "World's Most Expensive Burger | Video" Start with some select Kobe beef flown in fresh from the Hyogo prefecture. Then add some beluga caviar, some thick black truffles, a nice slice of brie with the rind still on it, a mondo piece of foie gras, some arugula, some heirloom tomatoes, and some bull shit honey dijon foam or something. Then sandwich this amalgam between a sliced french baguette. Oh and you better sprinkle some 24-carat gold flakes on top to seal the deal. It's blasphemy to even call that thing a "burger." Well, you, fellow hamburger lovers, won't find any of these so-called "gourmet burgers" at Hamburgers. You'll just find hamburgers. Damn good ones. Thick. Juicy. Freshly grilled to your liking. All the traditional condiments. Fresh. Mouth-watering. Five-star. Burgers. Looses 1 star for their somewhat soggy crinkle-cut fries. And their lack of tables.

Before I moved to the area, I was in Sausalito in 2008 as a tourist. I was headed for the ferry and was STARVING. Passed by Hamburgers, and the line was totally out the door! I got a cheeseburger and fries, and ate it on the ferry ride over to San Fran, and was in HEAVEN!!! A big fan.

3.5 stars. Right in downtown Sausilito you will find this small, hamburger joint with lines out the door. The line is what caught our attention. A line for some hamburgees???? With the limited places to eat (if you don't want to break the bank or empty your pocket) we decided on this place. The wait was kinda long, and it was really packed inside this tiny little thing i wouldn't even call a restaurant. Not a super bad thing that it's small because you can go outside to eat on a nice day and enjoy the view/weather. The burgers are made fresh right there and are pretty good in size. We got two cheeseburgers and an order of fries. MMM-mm good! The burger was really yummy... i think part of the reason it was so good though was because we were both starving! I was somewhat surprise when the total of our meal came up to something like 18 dollars.... yiikes! for some burgers and fries? oh well, cheaper than a lot of our other options out there....

Juicy burgers that packed lots of flavor. The line can be intimidating, but it goes by quick. The menu has five or six items and they get them all right. The fries were the frozen variety and I probably wouldn't order them if I were to go back.

I really liked this place. Grab a burger, walk (or run) to a bench near the water, sit down and enjoy. Massive burgers and crunchy fries, aptly named Hamburgers was a treat. A bit overpriced, but worth at least a try.

I was motivated to write after reading the review from Christopher Y. I cannot disagree more. Clearly people will have different points of reference on taste and you may not get the vibe on the burger here. But to compare this to In & Out? Yes, in and out is the best of the Fast Food burgers. There is a lot of good to be said about what In & Out does. But at the end of the day, the flavors that In & Out are going for are the same as all of the other fast food places: sugar, fat and salt. This is what your reference point has become for the taste of food. This is the gold standard. We have a new idea of meat flavor that isn't meat all. It's just fat, sugar, smoke and salt. What you likely are tasting in the Bridgeway Burger is actually meat. It's a nice thick slab of freshly ground fatty beef too (a double double is the most popular sell at In & Out because you need two of their tiny patties). It's only seasoned with a little salt and pepper and cooked over a flame for real smokey flavor, not an additive. It's only turned once and never pressed, so it keeps its juices. For my money, this is the best burger I've found in the Bay Area. If you're looking to make a comparison, at least avoid fast food references. It's a different product all together.

Love it. Old school no frills just good open flamed grilled burgers. It's worth the wait. Mine was nice and juicy and made a nice mess the way it should. I thought fries were just fine nothing outrageous but ok. Will go back again.

This is some of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Freshly cooked while you wait. While you wait you can watch your burger cook on their rotating grill as it is grilled to perfection. They're menu is fairly limited so don't be expecting COMBO meals. Everything is bought seperately. Regardless, if you're ever in the area try them out. You won't regret it.

Definitely a good burger, especially the cheese. I've never had that kind of cheese before (can't remember the name, but its from England) and it really adds a nice, subtle flavor. The burger is cooked on a rotating circular grill, similar to Mo's in North Beach. However, Mo's is just one step above (with their spices and ridiculous freshness). Still, this little space is nice for a quick burger and fries to go...

Best cheeseburgers in the Bay Area, hands down! No need to take my opinion, or any other Yelpers, as all of the tourists that visit Sausalito agree -- during the tourist season you'll have to deal with lines out the door during lunch time. Big tip if you're in town: try eating lunch a little earlier than noon OR call ahead and place your order ahead of time (you get to 'cut' to the front of the line to pick up your burger and fries :)

This place is so overrated! I feel bad for all of the tourists visiting San Francisco and grabbing lunch in Sausalito; I can't believe this is their impression of an American burger. The Bun - First of all it's WAY too big. The bread to meat ratio is disgusting. Two, the bun isn't even good. It's chewy and they don't take the time to toast it. The Beef - I would say it's a step above Taco Bell, and that's being generous. The Toppings - It's disgusting. They put on a little of this, a lot of that; between all the crap they put on it and the oversized bread you can't even taste the beef. Maybe that's a good thing? Price to Quality. Two burgers, one fry, and two cokes was, if I remember correctly, $25. That would be reasonable, if not cheap for SF, but for the quality of the burger I felt It was overpriced. Overall, if you want to go to Sausalito for lunch I'd try something else.

Great hamburgers, made to order with jack cheese. The buns are toasted so its extra yummy. We had cheeseburgers with everything. French fries are just OK. One order easily feeds 2-3 people. Burritos are huge and really delicious as well. Workers not too friendly, kind of made me nervous, like I had to order quickly and get out of there. I would eat there again in a flash, but skip the fries.

What a simple concept... a place named Hamburger that sells hamburgers. The menu consists of hamburger, cheese burger (one kind of cheese), grilled chicken sand, burrito, steak sand, and fries. The burger was GREAT... one of the best I have had in a long time. The meat is fresh and truly is charcoal grilled. We called in our order, picked it up, brought it back to the office and had a nice feast.

THIS IS THE BEST BURGER PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!!!!!! Best fries, everything made to order. They are a little pricy, but it is sooo worth it as it is high quality. Remember to tell them how you want your burger cooked or they cook it pretty rare, medium well is the safest but still not burnt. They close at 5:00pm which sucks because it is right around dinner. Oh, it is really small inside too...really really really really really small. So the best thing to do is to get your burger to go and take it across the street to this little park and have lunch on the grass so if you plan to eat here, bring a blanket for the park.

As I was being a normal tourist walking down the strip on Bridgeway, I was attracted to anywhere there was a large crowd. Two places I saw this today was by the shore where someone was making rock sculptures and this small simple hamburger joint. I didn't know what the commotion was, it looked like regular hamburgers, but if the line was going to be this long, I have to try one. It was pretty cool how they cooked their patties on this rotating grill. The cook just plops it down, and waits for the patties to be done while it circles around and around. It was like a beef patty carousel. The wait for these burgers was worth it. They melt Finland cheese (I think) on these thick patties, and serve it on a sesame seed bun. They were goooood. The only thing was that the condiments are not evenly distributed on the burgers. They plop a squirtful of mustard, mayo and ketchup near the center of the bun. Although this strategy is fast and efficient for them, it lowers the quality of taste. I only tasted mustard until I got halfway through my burger. Then it was a mayo cheeseburger, until the ketchup kicked in. Otherwise, the burger was simple, big, and good. The only real complaint I have is about the condiments on the burger. Mayo, ketchup and mustard have been poorly distributed, where I could only taste mayo on the top third of the burger, ketchup in the middle, and mustard towards the end of the burger. I'm not too big of a fan of a mayo or mustard burger, so I really only enjoyed the middle of it.

The best hamburger I ever had. Fresh, tasty and cheap. Everytime I go to Sausalito I must have one.

For many years before we moved here, we would skip breakfast before driving to the coast so we could manage to consume the rather HUGE meal of burger and fries from 'Bridgeway Burger'. It was a good strategy, since no other meal was required the rest of the day, which left much more time to drool over boats.

I thought I reviewed this place a while back, but oh well. I still love you little hamburger shack with a big line. The place is tiny with only a handful of tables, enough room for your hamburger and french fried to sit, but you have to stand. They put Gruyere cheese on these bad boys, so get ready for some happy taste buds. My main recommendations is call it in. Do not, I mean do not, sit in line with the tourists. Plus, on your way out, you get to see that one face in others that makes me selfishly feel good inside...envy.

The flames grilled burgers out in the front drew us into the store but after much hunger and anticipation, the burger was bleh...the only thing really notible about it was the rather thick slab of finnish cheese but then again, you can always find better burgers elsewhere. Frankly, there didnt seem to be much food options in Sausalito ...

Awesome name for a hole in the wall burger joint. Flame broiled burgers biatches!!! What else can I say? Best burger to grab after hitting the Norcal twisties on your motorcycle. No place to sit when crowded so sit outside and watch the tourists because they provide a good amount of entertainment. Especially people from the burbs or out of state.

Fast, decently priced, and delicious. My friends and I rode our bike from SF across the bridge to Saulsalito and decided to grab lunch there and so we ended up here. The only thing is there is no where to sit but you can enjoy your hamburger near the fountain in the sun. =)

This place servers the best Hamburger and Cheeseburger in this country. I was introduce to this establishment about 10 years ago, when I was working and living out in the Bay area. I have been trying very hard to search and find another place just like this, and to be very honest it is nearly impossible. Hamburgers uses the freshest patties, and these patties are nicely proportion. The Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers comes out of this place turns into the juiciest burgers that you can never find at any where else. If you are someone like me who loves to see the burger juice dripping right through the paper warping while you are enjoy every single bites of these burgers. You got to have at least one from this place when you every visit the bay area. Although there are NO indoor seating in this establishment, but who needs it when there are plenty of park benches across from the store location. Where you can enjoy your Hamburger/Cheeseburger right under the California's sun. I highly recommend this place to any one who is at or will be visiting the Bay area.

if i had to choose between eating this burger and a pile of garbage i would choose this burger because they are tasty. that is obvious. unless the pile of garbage included one of these burgers then i would need to reconsider.

  • Andrew K.

The hamburger was actually delicious, but I hate ketchup and there were huge vats of it and it was just dripping everywhere and all over the preparers gloves and I just wanted to hurl looking at it and thinking about eating it. The burger in the right context could be 5-stars, but the line was just too long and slow and the service was bad and it was too expensive.

They do make a damn good cheeseburger, I can see why there's usually a line out the door.

This is a very tiny tiny place filled with lots and lots of people. I'm sure they do not adhere to any fire codes, but hey, I'm not complaining. They have some of the juiciest burgers I have eaten. Their fries are pretty good as well. Don't expect to find a seat in here, no worries since its nice eating outside watching a view of the bay...that is until those killer seagulls start to attack you. Anyways, I like this place and come here every time I'm in Sausalito.

  • Anita L.

Seriously good hamburgers from a small shop which only has room to seat about 4 people. You can see the burgers being flame-broiled through the window on this rotating grill. The menu is simple... beef or chicken, with or without cheese with your usual condiments. You can order a side of fries to go along with it. Take your food and walk across the street, either eat in the park area or by the water, it'll be much better than being crammed in the tiny shop. They don't take credit cards so bring enough cash.

  • Gil S.

Mmmmmmmmm. As fine a reason as you need to take the ferry, get off the freeway, bike over the bridge. Just a take-out hamburger nook half a block up the street from the town square but they are seriously, drippy good.

This place has some good cheeseburgers. while at work yesterday, we noticed that a fellow co-worker was looking a bit on the skinny side. We decided we needed to fatten him up with a hearty lunch of a cheeseburger and fries. Since we knew this place was going to be busy, we called ahead and ordered the food. The only bad thing was we still needed to wait in line once we got there...besides that, the food was awesome. They make these fatty burgers on awesome buns. Man it was so good...and they have crinkle fries they serve in huge bags. i will definitely be going back here the next time i need lunch...

I've been eating burgers here since I was 7, not often, but enough to know they rock. There is absolutely nothing memorable about the place besides the grill in the window. I have no recollection about people who worked, nothing. Only amazing cheeseburgers and fries. Pick 'em up and headed down to the bay to eat them; you'll wanna rip into the fries immediately, but if you wait 'til you get to the water you won't burn yourself.

I've been walking by this place for 4 years or so and have always wanted to try one of their tasty burgers. After stumbling into Paterson's next door and seeing everyone there eating them, i knew there was a hook up going on. The waitress took our order over and it came about 20 mins later. No line, no standing, just sitting at the bar drinking New Castles til my lunch was dropped off. I highly recommend eating at the bar next door to help the time go by. They even have salt and Heinz on hand for your enjoyment.

Judging by the name of this establishment, these guys are clearly all about brevity, therefore I will keep this short. Hamburgers? NOM. PS- You are a damn fool if you come in here and don't order a hamburger. I mean come on, people.

  • Andy M.

The best burger in Sausalito. What I love about this place is they keep it simple. You get a burger with the freshest ground beef (humanely raised) with all the typical toppings. If you are visiting from another country this is the best way to try an All-American Hamburger.

  • S P.

Friend recommended to drive here if we are visiting San Francisco and crossing Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. We ordered a Cheeseburger and a Chicken Burrito and we have to say the burger were very good, but the Chicken Burrito was even better. Tips: Take note that it is a small joint and the line could get long. You place your order and don't expect too much VIP treatment from the staff. Don't be hating on them, they are focusing on getting your orders right so that you don't have to wait in line too long. When you get it, there's likely no place to sit, so take your food across to the park and enjoy it with a wonderful view of the bay.

The hamburgers are definitely JUICY, just like other Yelpers have said. They grill their patties on a rotating grill, and it comes out FRESH! I ordered the cheeseburger with everything on it (3 squirts of mayo, 1 squirt ketchup, 1 squirt mustard, relish, onions, tomato) and watched the cook grill it right in front of me! A little on the pricey side for a burger, but the quality was pretty good.

Hamburgers Sausalito has been an institution for a long time now in Sausalito. All the while, I haven't tried one yet! Good thing we had relatives from out of town who wanted to see Sausalito. Upon seeing the long line in HS, they had to try it. I had to try it. Every time I pass buy, I am always mesmerized by its rotating grill. I think it's purely aesthetic but highly appealing. I had their burger and fries. The burger had a good char flavor. It was in borderline dry but was teamed with good amount of veggies. Overall the burger was 'okay'. On a burger scale of things, I would pick In n Out over HS. Would either pick Five guys or HS, but would pick HS over McDonalds or BK.

An unexpected find.....simply delicious. what a great operation...2 guys grillin' hamburgers and making fries! They were great. One thing I noticed...the guy collecting the money would take off his gloves before handling the money, then put the gloves back on to handle the food. Very efficient...they have the system down. Hamburgers were good..homemade and nice...you can have it your way! I recommend this place!

For 20 mins wait in chilly wind, this burger does not deserve any better rating and I'd rather dine in the Counter and get a fried egg in my burger. First off, the shop is small with very limited seating area. The display window shows a big round grill with thick beef patty sizzling under fire, which made it look appertizing. The menu is quite simple and we tried the hamburger. Then the wait started and it was a rather long wait! The burger came out ok, the meat had flavor and the last few bites were better because the sauce all sank to the bottom of the paper bag. Overall I felt ok about this place but didn't quite understand why the popularity. I think if the expectation of waiting is managed better, this would be a better experience.

This place must be good because my daughters and I ate there 15 years ago and I still remember it. And when I say I remember it I mean I remember the taste and the enjoyment that came from enjoying those darn burgers and fries. In those days, though, the buns were plain - no sesame - so I guess I'll have to go back and see how they differ. Had I only listened to my gut back then (pun partially intended) I would have come back home to San Diego and started a similar place. Quality burger, decent price, limited menu gets great results. "Those are good burgers, Walter."

I had a good experience with this place. That rotating grill is a cool concept. Burgers made to order were thick and juicy. Everything was on target. It's a tiny place so you probably will do like most people and eat your goods on the benches across the street. Go ahead. It's ok.

One of THE top Burger places in Marin! Excellent, quick and efficient service. You can get a Burger, Cheeseburger, Burrito, steak sandwich and select from many more delectable food options. The fries are EXCELLENT. Crispy and delicious, every fry has the same consistency. You can see your Burger patty sizzle on the turntable grill, and the worker mixes his magic like a Barbecue DJ specialist. Overall, I had an emphatic experience. I will definitely come back.

If you are in the mood for a delicious burger and take-out food in a sea-side town this is where you go. Their hamburgers all together are fantastic; the meat melts in your mouth and the buns are fresh and tasty. Their fries are quite awesome too. Although their food is really popular and there is a long line at the store most of the time, they are fast in helping customers. They brilliantly figured out the process management in that tiny store! There are only a few ingredients (tomato, lettuce, relish, onion, mustard, mayo, ketchup) that you can chose to include/exclude in your burger. They quickly jot down the ingredients you want on the side of the paper-wrap, then start grilling your meat and assemble your burger in front of you. If you have a group order, the way to find your own burger in the big bag is to read the side of the paper-wraps and make sure the included ingredients match your order. Generally, there is a big line here in weekends, so if you are super hungry, pick another restaurant. If you decide to wait for a fresh and delicious burger, take your food to the greens on the water side and enjoy it with the panoramic view of San Francisco. This is a great option for nice days, but in the rainy/cold days, the disadvantage of Hamburgers Sausalito is the lack of seating area.

I was just passing through Sausalito to shop and take some pics while visiting San Francisco. I found this gem stone of a fast food take out restaurant on the north east side of earthly heaven. Once entering the minuscule establishment I did not expect to walk out of this place with the food for the gods. I was impressed when I saw the sign that informed me the chicken was free range and organic. I ordered one of my favorites BBQ chicken sandwich with fries. I walked over to the bay/docking area to sit down and eat while looking over the beautiful water. I have to say I had the best fries and barbecue chicken sandwich in years if not ever. I do not get it, San Francisco is like a magical place, even so that the smallest places and things leave you in awe.

I have been to Sausalito several times now and have ventured to Hamburgers on each occasion. This straight-forward shack seems out of place among the glitzy boutiques and high-end clothing shops, but its casual vibe can also be viewed as a welcomed anchor that keeps the town grounded for visitors. The restaurant's window displays a rotating grill full of hefty patties. Once you go inside, you are asked to customize your order with traditional toppings like onions, cheese, lettuce, etc. Each hamburger is juicy and simply presented. While most diners take their patties to go, three small tables are available for those that do not trust themselves to make it very far without sneaking a bite. This restaurant's name says it all - Hamburgers - cooked simply without all the fuss. The relaxed fare is a perfect treat to carry around as you stroll around the shops.

After a long day of bike riding on an empty stomach, the YJCG's and I finally made it to this burger joint for our first actual meal of the day! Things to note: - It's a small joint so you get in and get the hell out. - Long lines but the servers are sassy and have a pretty efficient system of taking orders. Better scope the menu ahead of time and be ready to order quickly when your name is called! Otherwise, you're gettin the stink eye for taking so damn long. - The place is called hamburger so why the heck wouldn't you get one? Get one... The burger is pretty good... if you can fit it all in yo mouth (don't say it...). Don't bother with the jalapenos, tho. They don't put it in your burger and its not the fresh kind but rather the soggy soaked ones. With all the other fixings, the burger is classic tasting and has a nice grilled flavor to it. The best part for me and Kim T. was, of course, the chunky crinkle fries to go with it! MMMMMM!!!

TOURIST TRAP!!! DON'T EAT HERE! We were dropped off on a tour in Sausalito to eat. There aren't many restaurants around for a modest budget or time. We were told about the hamburger place as an option by our tour guide. They wanted us on the bus in an hour. It seemed like a simple system, order 4 hamburgers, fries, drink. They only do burgers. How hard could that be? We thought the line out the door meant they must be good. It wasn't. It was a BAD experience. The line was only because there was absolutely no standing room inside. We'll, we ordered, paid, and left. Once outside we realized they forgot one of our burgers and overcharged us. My wife went inside to settle. The cashier was rude and argued that they gave her the right order. My wife tried to teach them simple math, but they wouldn't budge. I don't think they cared about anything but getting money, and to hell with any kind of common sense or customer service. We demanded our money back and the cashier cursed us in his language. I really had to restrain myself from beating the little pipsqueak. So we left. Long story short... STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM HAMBURGERS IN SAUSALITO AS YOU CAN. We arrived hungry but found a nice sandwich shop around the corner. Heck the entire town is supported by naive tourists. Be armed. DON'T EAT HERE! If it is a stop on your tour, bring a bag lunch with you.

Drove from SF and happened to see this place. We were hungry and wanted to eat by the water. Probably took 25 minutes to order (almost like the No Soup for you) but staff were decent. While no one asked how the burger should be cooked, a gentleman requested medium rare and they said ok. Burger style is very simple but absolutely fantastic. Nicely cooked and juicy.. Fires were great too. Person who compared them to "in and out" joint must be kidding. This isn't frozen fast food joint.

One of the best places to eat a burger in the bay area. The only problem is the long line at the entrance but you can avoid it if you call them, place the order and arrive later just to pickup. Note there is almost no room to sit inside. I normally take my order and eat it by the sea side. The amazing views make the tase feel even better :-)

    (4)
  • Marie M.

The worst customer service ever....They couldn't remember my order. They confused other people's order. They were too slow to cook a burger...taste...hummmm normal....

    (2)
  • J C.

Pretty good burgers but their customer service can be sucky. Well done burgers can get very dry and the line gets pretty long. Also, the place is enough to fit two people shoulder to shoulder sideways. I say that their burgers is good because it is pretty yummy and fresh for the price. However, you won't get any smile or thank you or come again. Sometimes, their customer service lack common sense also. If you are in the mood for a good burger, I recommend but don't expect more other than their burgers.

  • Justin L.

We took our bikes to the bart station and rode there. I was expecting a lot from this place because the line was out the door. We got our burgers and bought some beer from the local store and sat on the beach. Everything was great except the burgers. They need to change the buns and hook it up with more condiments. The buns don't go with these burgers. Please change them.

I ate Cheese burger. It taste good and juicy. But the place is small (There were only 6 chairs) so I couldn't seat in. But there are public outside sittings available unless it's raining. One negative comment is if u like spicy food like me you will probably side order Jalapeno however they charge $0.75 extra for small amount of canned sliced Jalapeno where most handmade paddy hamburger stores provided for free.

    (3)
  • Jeanne C.

I like that this place is a complete (and hidden) hole in the wall, but the burgers simply did not live up to its expectations. It's just a burger, and nothing special. Too bready, which makes for a bloated stomach. Burgers are very subjective, but my fave burgers will always be from Shake Shack in NYC.

  • Todd E.

I biked over from San Francisco and only had enough time to grab a quick bite to go before catching the ferry back and this seemed like a good bet. I have no idea what the point of having a spinning grill is other than advertising but we placed our order and hugged the wall waiting for our burgers. As we waited a few other people trickled in and tried to make small talk with the staff but you could tell they weren't interested. When our order was up we grabbed it, got to the ferry and ate it on the boat ride back. I admit, there was maybe a 30 minute gap between cooking and eating but the burger tasted dried out and reminded me of a burger I had recently had at an army base . . . in east Africa . . . thousands of miles from the nearest cow. Maybe it's my fault for not specifying that I wanted my meat cooked 'medium', but I feel like I've eaten other burgers from Five Guys or Shake Shack cold and they've still managed to hang on to their deliciousness.

I had a cheeseburger and fries. It was perfectly Cooke to order. It was clearly fresh and the size was substantial. Friendly service and affordable food in an otherwise pricy tourist spot. I'll bring more friends back here now that I'm a native.

  • J L.

We rode our bikes from fisherman's wharf to Sausalito and figured we'd give their cheeseburgers here a try. It is a very small place with seating for only about 5-6 people inside. It seems like there's always people waiting for their orders. I guess it was mainly because of the size of the place. Even there was only 1 person waiting, it looks like there's more. Anyways, their burgers are a good size and okay in taste. I'd still prefer in-n-out burger though. Their prices are on the high side, but I guess it's expected for it being in Sausalito. But their staff are really and friendly.

    (3)
  • K L.

The place is all hype. I have to admit though, the rotating grill is a brilliant marketing scheme. I wonder if this place is advertised in some tourist guide as there were many eurotrash looking peeps lined up and many of them apparently don't know how to queue properly. Going back and forth the line while one of their buddies stay to keep the spot. In a tight space, that is extremely annoying. Nothing special with meat, buns, cheese... nothing Fries looked like the ones you buy from your local grocers, in the frozen section, with ridges. Not worth another visit.

Burgers

Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.

Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top.
