Pretty decent Vietnamese restaurant in a town with only a few Vietnamese options. The service is always pretty great although sometimes the restaurant becomes crowded and the servers get bogged down. There is a dog friendly outdoor seating area which is nice and a nice boba tea selection. I tend to get the lemon grass chicken, fresh summer rolls, and honeydew boba. Yum!!!

Wish they are more professional. They played around and joke with each other. They food was okay. Had better at other places. Very slow service for just pho.

MIKEY ROCKS!!! 5 Stars for really good, tasty food at affordable prices and good portions. The customer service here is outstanding and Mikey always sets the tone for a fantastic experience. I love the spring rolls and popcorn chicken! They have tons of boba/slush flavors. I wouldn't come here from 4-6pm because they tend to be very, very busy. The line is literally out the door and the wait time for seating is really long! But they do their best to make it move quickly. I guess it's a good sign of their awesome food!

Delicious restaurant to chow down after the 17 mile drive. I'm from Fresno and we have tons of Vietnamese restaurants, particularly pho. I had a basil eggplant tofu dish that was fantastic and filling. Hubby had pho which he enjoyed but said wasn't the best. I also got to try my friends pork chop and it was fabulously well cooked. I was with a Vietnamese person do she really seemed to enjoy her meal. Would return again.

The food was great I ordered the pho combo and a milk tea but the service was really bad

The place is run by babies... bratty kids who run the restaurant like insolent children. The food is average... Nothing like The Noodle Bar. Walked in at 8:50pm and the child in charge said "To go orders only." Service is total crap! Also do not like the way the kitchen dungeon is set up... Can't see what's going on other than a small window into the kitchen... Seems likes its hot and cranky where the food is originating from. That can't be good. ;-) Won't be going back anytime soon!

Came with my family at 1pm and waited 20mins for a table for four. We ordered popcorn chicken and calamari that was very plain. The calamari was not deep fried fully either. It didnt taste good and was overpriced for the portion they served us. It took them 45mins to bring out our Pho noodles and chow mein because there was a tourist bus of 30people ordering food.

Fresh and delicious food for an incredibly cheap price! The staff is also super friendly! There are an array of things here including an extensive list of Boba.

I never write a review but had to write one for this horrible restaurant. I would rate this restaurant absolutely 0......After waiting for 15 minutes, we were seated to a dirty booth and when we pointed out to the waitress she cleaned it with her hand.....We asked to be moved to a different table and when we placed an order for our drinks: green tea and raspberry lemonade which came another 15 minutes later and when we asked where our drinks were, we were told the boba guy is on break......so we had to eat a rice dish we ordered with no drinks....we ordered eggrolls and it came with no lettuce or other condiments it's supposed to come with like every other Vietnamese restaurant....when I asked for it, I was told by the owner we would have to ask for it.....When our bill came we were charged $1.50 extra for the lettuce, which the owner did not disclose this is an extra cost..... when I asked for this to be removed, he then continued to explain other restaurants charge higher for their eggrolls that's why the lettuce wrap comes with it and this is totally false statement.....Not only eggrolls are cheaper but there's no extra cost for lettuce...Also, all employees including owner, the cook and servers are more concerned face timing and texting rather than attending their clients....at the end food: 2 and service: 0

We loved Chopstix so much we came back twice over the two days we spent in Monterey. My husband loved the lemongrass beef sandwiches, the pho was tasty, and the boba tea was sweet!!

Im a pho-a-holic and I was actually really surprised with their pho. Very good and GREAT PRICE!! LARGE $6.50

Pretty good wonton soup and I'm a fan of their Taro Milk tea. I go there pretty often and their customer service is not bad.

Seriously, only 3 1/2 stars??? This is the place to go when you want good inexpensive food. Service is WAY better than most anyplace else, even high end restaurants. Friendly and quick. I rarely give a five star rating but Chopstix deserves it. Quality food at a reasonably price. We had the house fried rice, Shaken beef, and a BBQ chicken sandwich. All good! Oh, and the shrimp and pork spring rolls. Tired of spending $$$'s for your meals, then try here. $5.50 for the Shaken Beef! I just wish I checked this place out sooner on my stay in Monterey. The only downside? This place can get packed!!!

Decent food ! Sauce wasn't too heavy, don't like peanuts too much. But highly enjoyed the quick effective service. Came the other day for pho, it was good enough to come back today. Hope to try other menu options one day

There is no place like like this in Monterey area. The pho soup is delicious never disappoints! As a local I am glad we have a place where you can get quality food at reasonable price! It's a must go!

(: Boba-Foodaholic Says :) My order: Stir-fried egg noodle + milk tea with boba I used to go here all the time with my friends after class or shopping, since it is the closest restaurant to school and it is really cheap compared to other restaurant. Their services is really good, except when they are busy because they are always understaffed. Furthermore, this place has been remodeling all the time, which gets better all the time. However, I don't know what's wrong with Chopstix but it is getting worst. First, I always and used to get stir-fried egg noodles all the time. However, as I always go there, the taste gets different all the time and less noodles as time goes by. Furthermore, their bubble tea especially isn't good as before. I hate to drink it but it is better than water, which I have to get it. Their milk tea is okay, I guess. However, their boba is really weird which is too chewy and small which doesn't taste good. ***** Don't make togo food on the phone or online because it will be either hard to understand what he is saying on the phone or they will be really late preparing the food, so I just recommend that you go there and order the food or eat there.

This place was delicious!!!!!!!!!! And pretty packed for a Thursday afternoon. We had the spring rolls and the peanut sauce it came with was better than any I had ever tried before...almost seemed like it had some curry in it? I had the stir fried noodles and hubby had the wonton soup...flavor heaven on both! Would def come here again.

  • Neil D.

Don't bother coming here if your looking for authentic served Vietnamese food. This place is run by young "know it alls" that like to cut corners and more expensive. Their too lazy to grind the peanuts in dipping sauce for fresh spring rolls and charge extra if you request lettuce with fried egg rolls Had the medium rare steak pho and broth was bland which made noodles bland as well. Wonton soup had very little wontons but more vegetable filler. Was first confused by the name (Chopstixs) and thought it was a Chinese food restaurant. This place manly takes advantage of the tourists visiting Monterey.

Oh what to do when you aren't familiar with the area and craving milk tea? I pull up my trusty yelp app and search away. And it led me here. Pretty disappointed to see not many milk tea shops in this area. The next one was in salinas! This place a little further away from the main attractions of cannery row and the aquarium. There is a small parking lot on the side of the building. Came in and ordered only the milk tea. As I was waiting, I spied on the food people were devouring and it looked tasty. I'll probably have to come back to try the food. The almond milk tea and regular milk tea was good enough for the area that has none. A tad on the sweeter side but the chewy pearls made up for it.

I am a big fan of Vietnamese food and this place never let me down. Good food for a good price. It is very hard to decide what to eat there as there are so many tempting menus that I want to try.

We stayed at one of the hotels down the street and decided to order take out. The place probably seats about 40-50 people, but it was packed on a Wednesday night. The food (pho and rice plates) was ok and reasonably priced. My daughter enjoyed the fried banana dessert. My other daughter was craving Boba which they have a huge menu for, but they didn't give her the one that she ordered. Unfortunately, we didn't notice this until we got back to the hotel. Otherwise, the customer service was good.

  • J G.

I rate the restaurants I go to based on taste, cleanliness, customer service, price, and overall experience. Those are my 5 stars. Customer service was good, BUT it was a hi and bye thing. Never saw a waitress or waiter after for refill, water, or just to ask if we were ok. Nonetheless I always tip around 20% unless it was horrendous. Food was a good bang for your buck. I love it when you get your money's worth in a meal and this place you definitely do. Mandarin chicken wings was amazing as well as the house fried rice. Thai tea was a solid average. When the weather gets cooler, I will try the pho and update.

  • Sarina M.

The best vegetarian pho ever! The veggies are always fresh & it comes with a nice plate of crisp bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeno slices & lime. Sriracha & Hoisin sauces really make this an outstanding soup. The waitstaff is friendly & attentive, even when the crowds pour in at lunchtime. I love the view & on a nice day an outside table is wonderful. Oh, their spring rolls are fantastic & that peanut sauce, so yummy! The fried calamari is seasoned really well, a bit spicy & served with the traditional tartar sauce. It's hard to find boba teas in Monterey, but Chopstix has a huge flavor selection & the avocado is my favorite, not too sweet, it's creamy & satisfying. I always go to the one on Munras for a casual, healthy, delicious, inexpensive meal. I also appreciate the fact that they've got their own parking lot. So many good reasons to come here, I'm a loyal fan.

  • Paul Z.

Everything was good to great with incredibly reasonable prices. $1.00 add to upgrade to large portions is generous and accommodates sharing dishes. If this place was in my town is be back regularly. Oh, and the kids loved the yummy flavored Boba teas.

  • Cindy D.

I have been goin to Chopstix since the opening and I just love the place! Service is great. They are all running around cleaning tables and getting you seated and drinks ordered! The meals come quick and are so yummy. My papaya salad, tofu and veg's and 5 spice or BBQ chicken are always the same...excellent! The prices can't be beat! This is some absolutely good food and service. I never take a leftover box because it's just enough food for me for the right price! LOVE IT! So tasty!

    (5)
  • Naomi K.

It depends what you're looking for... a cheap filling meal, sure this is the place to go. It's hard to beat those prices and good variety of selection to choose from. But don't expect the meal to be top quality. Boba is the best I've tasted in Monterey. I especially like the passion fruit. I'd avoid the Vietnamese ice coffee if you're actually looking for the real french press drip. Haven't been able to taste all the dishes but the vietnamese bbq pork dish was interesting. Let's say, it wasn't what I was expecting, (Suon Nuong) but still decently tasty. The soup was pretty good to, but I think the ultimate test would be trying the pho. I'll have to come back and try some of the other dishes. There's also several daily specials that look really good too. Only quip is that the service was spotty. We never got water refills, only checked on once, no one came to pick up the bill so I ended up just paying at the counter.

This place is not special anymore. The restaurant recently raised up its prices about a month ago, and its food portions seem as if they are getting smaller and smaller.

I'm not from this area and I love pho. I'm really picky with my broth so I'm really critical about pho. My hotel is right here at Surf Inn so it is walking distance from where I'm staying, craving pho and I absolutely loved it. I'm so satisfied with everything and the staff. I totally recommend this place. Customer server was super great! Everything I had asked for, I didn't have to ask twice. Plus my friend's baby spilled water on the table and one of the workers came very quick to help with the spill. Everything was on point! Will be back for sure!

Dish tasted terrible. Chicken was tough, atmosphere noisy and staff joke while I waited on my food. Sorry won't be back.

Excellent Vietnamese food, and very reasonable especially for Monterey where even a modest meal can cost $15-$20 a person. I'm a big fan of Vietnamese food and so is my wife. However often times when I go to a Vietnamese restaurant I get pho. This time I knew that I wanted to branch out. Though I still got noodles I got the vermicelli style ones with stirfried chicken and vegetables over the noodles. My wife got the same but with pork. We also split an appetizer of fried spring rolls they came with a sweet chili sauce that was delicious. Our son had an order of popcorn chicken that he devoured. As I said before, the prices are excellent. Mine was the most expensive at $6.50 and that was because I opted for a large order. Most of the other items ordered hovered around the five dollar range. And every item we ordered was amazing. I wish I could take that place back to San Antonio with me. But once I come back to Monterey, you can bet I'll be picking up my Chopstix!

I love their white chocolate raspberry mocha blast with boba and the spring rolls with peanut sauce. They only take cash but at least have an atm inside.

If there was a negative, id rate it a negative 100. Let me explain: A co worker of mine introduced me to this place and initially my husband, daughter & i fell for it. It had good prices, decent food and was good for us. However, one day, i got the usual that i shared with my daughter and that evening, we were both sick. My daughter had eaten more than me and wound up throwing up about 6 times!! Mind you, this is a kid that has only thrown up one other time in her life and shes 6. Poor baby, she had no idea what was going on and she felt horrible! We have not returned. Nor will we.

Alright, living in San Jose, there are plenty of VN food choices. In Monterey, there are only a handful. So I wasn't expecting too much, went in with low expectations. So for that, it was OK. But, man, doesn't compare to San Jose. I had the egg rolls and the bun (with pork and shrimp). The egg rolls were OK. Fresh and crispy. Good. The bun was pretty blah. The pork wasn't grilled and thinly cut like I'm use to. I "found" two shrimp. Too much sauce and not the grilled burnt taste of other places. There were hardly any noodles (I ordered large - I think that means same food, but in large bowl.). I finished it because I was hungry and it wasn't bad...just not great. Not planning to come back.

Chopstix has become one of our favorites in Monterey. The service is a little slow at times, but almost everything here is between $5-7, which is pretty great. The Wonton Soup is my favorite and the Boba list is the best I have seen yet. I lived in China a few years ago where I fell in love with Boba tea, so finding a place in the US with such an extensive menu is impressive,. Black milk tea with Boba for about $2.50? Sold!

  • Craig G.

Went for lunch, they were busy but me and my buddy got a table when we walked in, lucky. I ordered the stir fried egg noodles and I wasn't disappointed at all. They were delicious and the large size was only 1$ more which is worth it because I basically paid 1$ for a second meal. High recommend this place but expect it to be busy and make sure you bring some cash unless you dont mind the 3$ ATM charge( they DO have an ATM)

  • Julie S.

I thought this was a pretty cool little place. The atmosphere was clean and bright, the servers were really nice, the prices were cheap and the food was tasty. It wasn't the best Vietnamese food I've ever had, but it was good, especially considering the prices! Noodle and rice plates with meat are only $5 each. The BBQ chicken I ordered was delicious but just a tad oily. Also, they don't give you the option of brown rice, but they will sub veggies for rice which I appreciated.

  • Christopher D.

The food here is fantastic and cheap, but the service is patchy at best. I waited without anything to drink for twenty minutes after i had eaten for a bill and no one even looked at us. I went there in my uniform (military) and they were actually more rude than anywhere I've ever been in my life . They show preferential treatment to people they think will tip more like the couple from Carmel sitting next to me. haha

  • Leslie K.

Pretty ho-hum food. But more than that, dirty tables and floors. I cannot relax and enjoy my meal when the table is dirty (and that's AFTER they wiped it down....streaks of grime and grease, blech!) The food is mediocre. Not large servings and not very inventive. We love vietnamese food and were really disappointed. Had: Stir fry tofu and veggies, stir fry shrimp and veggies, papaya salad. Salad was the best thing, tangy and pretty tasty. The other dishes we tried (and we've been back twice) just didn't cut it from a flavor standpoint or a well-cooked one. Veggies were underdone, shrimp overdone. Won't be back.

I must admit that I am a regular customer for 3 reasons. 1. I absolutely love Boba, and this is the closest place I can find. 2. It's within 5 minutes of my home and work. 3. It is cheap. Every time I go I order the same thing. Lemongrass Steak Dry Noodle Bowl. For 5 bucks, I am full and the satisfied. The steak has great seasoning and is just spicy enough (sometimes I feel adventurous and add Shiracha). Peanut allergies beware. I love all boba. So, I try a new flavor every time. My go-to favorite is Coconut Milk Tea with half mango jelly and half boba. But, lately I have tried vanilla milk tea, lychee milk tea (too sweet for me), and almond milk tea. My next adventure will be to try the Avocado and then snow bubble. Service isn't the best, but a family member always reminds us, "That's what you get for minimun wage." I don't expect much, but maybe I am too patient.

I have been enjoying going to Chopstix in Monterey. The food is affordably priced, there are so many drinks to choose from (but, I bet they have sugar in them.....), I enjoy being out with everyone, and, I hope they don't get toooo busy, although the wait has been fine as it is now......thank you for the good Vietnamese food served locally!

Good food at very reasonable prices! We had the Pork Banh Mi sandwich, Beef Pho, BBQ Chicken rice plate, Fried Rice, Noodles w/the different meats, and the fried Imperial Rolls. Everything was delicious! We even had a Cantoupe Tapioca drink along with a White Chocolate Mocha Blast that tasted sooo good! Will definitely stop by again when in the area.

If you are just looking for a place to eat out with some friends right before the movies, Chopstix is the place to go! The quality of it, as i compare it to, is like Chipotle is to Mexican food -- Good and cheap, and for what it is worth it is really good! The workers seem always busy, laid back (sometimes a little too "chill" with things, as they don't really engage conversation with te guess. they are just there to serve food it seems) Love the Vietnamese rolls. The food is very different, and limitless choices. VERY YUMMY! DON'T FORGET TO TRY A BOBA! i have loved their Bobas, once again, a BIG variet! My favorite so far is definitely the Green tea Snow Boba. DELICIOUS! Take out is available, 20 dollar order required. 4 Stars here! gotta try it out! :)

Great place, great service, great food. Very busy but worth it!! Be sure you're hungry as you will be leaving with a full tummy. I highly recommend this. Be prepared though as you may have to wait because they are popular.

On a long drive from San Luis Obispo, we stopped here and couldnt have been more happy with our choice. If you're looking for a hot bowl of pho, I would recommend going here.

  • R K.

I love Vietnamese food! So I was excited to eat at this one in Monterey, but came away disappointed. Started with Vietnamese Ice Coffee: yuck! It tasted pre-made and tasted like sugary cereal. The spring rolls were on par with other good Vietnamese places, but the pho (I got the beef combinations bowl) lacked a variety of beef and the flavor was pretty poor. They did have shrimp in it which was a nice touch, but didn't make up for the lack of the good pho expectation. Just felt like fast food Viet food.

  • A K.

The Pho is quite good and a great price. It tastes good and seems pretty clean in terms of ingredients. As others have said, the small size is a full meal for a very reasonable price. We also ordered the calamari and it was great. It seems that you should wait to be seated, but this is not clear upon entry. They have been busy every time I have gone so service isn't lightning fast, but my servers have always been great. They do not take credit cards at the time of this review it is cash/check only. Although they do conveniently (sarcasm) have one of those fee ATMs that seem to be popping up at a lot of restaurants of late. Because of the fair prices and good food, it is a very convenient place to eat lunch even a few times a week without feeling guilty for eating out. Just remember to bring cash!

  • Angela L.

With so many reviews complaining about slow service, when we entered and saw there were no tables available (8pm) we were apprehensive. We needn't have been. We were seated in less than 5 minutes, ordered in another few minutes, and had our food less than 10 minutes after that. Our server was friendly (and cute!), and the food prices are scarily cheap. I had the Wonton soup, described as coming with "chicken, shrimp, and mixed vegetables". I'm not a fan of pork, so the pork wontons didn't do much for me, but there were quite a few (about a dozen, or so it seemed). The chicken and mixed veggies were also reasonably abundant, especially for a $6.50 price tag (for large; regular size is only $5.50). However, there were only TWO, count 'em TWO, shrimp (in a size that definitely lived up to their name), which seemed to me to be a bit too few. My companion had the Bun Bo Hue, which is a spicy beef soup with vermicelli noodles. It was "average", which is I think a good summary for both our meals. Given the price and the service, however, I think it was more than acceptable. An excellent value, just don't expect the food to wow you.

Their drinks are weird and make you dehydrated but I love their Pho. My future roommate showed me this place and the food was good. The place was fairly small but it would be a good place to film a scene for a movie.

seriously. this one of the worest service i have seen in my life. all the servers were rude expect one waitress nice enough to check on us. the food was bad. this place stays busy because of cheap prices. i wont be back. and one of the employee posted pictures of how they prepare their food. they wash their chicken in the same sink that they wash diahes in. i cant believe i ate there. discusting.

My boyfriend and I had a great meal here for lunch a few days back. The PHO was fresh and had great flavor, the mango Boba was amazing and the service was great. The atmosphere is comfortable and the place is always packed. I would definitely recommend.

This is a Monterey 4 star. What I'm trying to say is that while dining is relatively expensive and not tasty in Monterey, Chopstix defies both trends, offering low-priced Vietnamese fare that is possibly the tastiest, freshest restaurant food around. The tab for two is roughly $20 for two after two entrees and an appetizer. Delicious Vietnamese and Taiwanese inspired drinks--Boba, milk tea, snow (slushee)--are offered for approximately $3.50. Good luck finding a table on Friday or Saturday night when Monterey descends union Chopstix and occupies the ~12 indoor tables and the line goes out the door. They also have takeout, dishes ready in 15 minutes. My only criticism is that the help is usually really young and sometimes non-committal (more the exception than the rule). So, Bon appetit!

Ok if you want great fresh heathy food for a great value this is your place!!! Most plates are 5.00. We eat here often and the nurses at CHOMP love to order this to go. The place gets busy so be prepared to have a little wait at times. They are quick, friendly, clean and oh I love the spring rolls with peanut sauce and the wonton soup are among my favorites! Enjoy mmmmmmmm...........good. You will leave there with a full tummy and money left in your wallet.

I have eaten at this Chopstix twice and the Seaside location once and have found all experiences to be decent, but not phenomenal. Just to back track, I am a native of San Jose, a place teeming with authentic and delicious Vietnamese food, hence the lower rating. However, given the lack of gastronomic diversity in Monterey, Chopstix is still a welcome choice if I'm craving something cheap and Indochinese-y ("-y" because the menu items aren't entirely authentic). The following is what I've eaten before: - Vegetarian Sandwich: pretty good and only $3.50! I love that the bread is toasted when it arrives and they stuff it with a lot of tofu and vegetarian ham, but it could use more daikon and other traditional veggies. I found it a tad on the dry side because of this. Still, I would order this again. - Vegetarian Glass Noodles: I've had better. The portion was sparse and I would have liked more content. - Taro milk w/ boba: They use artificial taro powder, not fresh taro. Dislike. - Fresh spring rolls: Decent. The rolls are ok and the peanut sauce has good flavor but it's too thick, which makes it difficult to dip the roll in. The overall service is speedy, like any other casual Asian joint. The staff was pretty friendly.

AWFUL SERVICE. Tons of teenage workers standing around doing nothing. We walked in and stood there waiting to be greeted and seated. I had to walk up to the counter and ask if we order there or wait for a server. They told me we could sit wherever we wanted. We then waited. I was hungry and sick of sitting there, so I went to the counter again to ask them to send our server over to take our order. She finally came and stood there without saying anything. We ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, some tofu, veggie, and noodle dish, and the vegetarian pho. The food arrived very quickly. The fresh rolls were decent. They add a mock ham and it added a different, but good flavor to the roll. The other two dishes were not good. The pho had no flavor, few noodles, and hardly any vegetables. Our server forgot to bring the fresh accompaniments, but went to get them once reminded. There was only a scant amount of basil and no cilantro. I had to keep dumping soy and chili sauce and salt in, hoping to get some flavor. The tofu noodle dish we got was so puny and had no taste at all. Awful. I have never been to such a poor quality vietnamese restaurant in my life. At least it was cheap. 2 sodas, rolls, and two entrees for under $20.

Stopped in on opening day for a little pick-me-up Vietnamese Iced Coffee and ending up enjoying a 3rd lunch. House Fried Rice, Chicken Pho, Shrimp Fried Eggrolls... everything delicious, cheap and great service. So good to see this place packed and everyone enjoying themselves and some fun food and drinks. Nice work Mikey! My family is a big fan! xoxo

Service was wonderful...food is great..the wait for a table is so worth it, though if u don't want to wait for a table, you can sit at the bar

Boba here is awesome. The service and format for ordering/seating, however, is terrible. The food is hit or miss. The pork chop is more fat than pork chop. The noodles are usually cold. Overall, good place to grab a boba if you can put up with the rudeness; otherwise, go somewhere else.

Surprisingly good pho along motel row in Monterey. We were looking for a break from all of the seafood during our trip and this was a pleasant surprise. Service was good and the food was delicious. Would definitely visit the next time we're in town.

VEGETARIANS BEWARE! Even though staff might tell you certain dishes/ingredients lack animal products, this is not always accurate. Before I ordered a side of peanut sauce for my veggies and tofu I made sure to ask the server about animal products in the sauce, specifically mentioning fish products. He assured me that their peanut sauce contains no animal products, including fish sauce. Halfway through my meal I noticed white chunks of something in the bottom of the peanut sauce container. Upon further inspection I find that these chunks are indeed fish. Thank you Chopstix, for lying about the ingredients and making me feel sick to my stomach for the rest of the night. Oh, and the food was flavorless anyways.

So I have been into Chopstix many times, and every time was great; the food was great, service was great. Until the last time I went in. I went a couple weeks ago, and was expecting to have a nice meal with my family. The waitress took a while to get to the table, and when she did, her hair was covering half her face, and she was holding it back with her hand. First rule in the restaurant business regardless of what kind of restaurant it is, employees need to have their hair back and out of their faces, very unsanitary. So we order, our food and drinks. My family's boba's come (by the way, the food and boba are awesome. the service is the only thing) and it takes an extra 15 minutes for mine to come. The restaurant wasn't even that busy which really pissed me off because who was I waiting after?! All of our drinks should have come at the same time. Then there was a table sitting uncleared outside and a seagull was picking at it. Mind you there was a group sitting next to that table that was a little disgusted. So the seagull picks up a giant bone and is trying to swallow it, and everyone in the restaurant is watching this happen, while the staff was just standing around "not looking". Finally one of them sees, and they go to clear it. It took about 10 minutes for them to "see" it. At the end of our meal and after waiting a long time, a girl who wasn't our waitress came over to clear our plates and and give us the check. She was really nice and should have been our waitress. She should have gotten our tip. So I look over at our waitress, and she is playing on her phone and eating. And she didn't have time to just quickly drop off our check... I looked over at the other 3 employees, and they were on their phones too!! It was so apparent, and very unprofessional. Every employee except for the kitchen was on their phones. So they either need to do a better job of training, or hire better people.

My husband and I went into Chopstix for their grand opening yesterday. Online I'd thought I'd read that with each entree, you receive a free boba. When we placed our order, the waitress said that it was only one per group, odd, but ok. I later enquired about the boba to the cashier who quickly got us another. I wasn't fishing for free boba (although it was a plus), however it did bring the customer service level up a few notches. I used to live in Orlando, and there was a certain street there which housed many asian restaurants, and Vietnamese is one of my favorites. Sadly, we were a bit let down. Not that it as bad- but nothing to write home about. And, by examining the reviews and the size of plates for those who dined in seemed much, much larger than our to-gos. Overall, the food was tasty, they were trying to cater to their customers throughout the hectic opening day, I will definitly be a return customer- even if only for the avocado boba!

We stopped in the day after the grand opening. We're regulars at the Seaside location, and go in about once a month. The owner, Mikey, always recognizes us and greets us personally. Really makes us feel welcome and appreciated. He even remembers what my husband always orders! The new place, while small, is beautiful, and I love that they now have a dedicated parking lot. The food is just as good as the original location, and the prices are still cheap. I won't ever eat at the mall again, with Chopstix so close! Congrats to Mikey and his wife for an excellent job! Oh, and a warning if you've never been before: CASH ONLY.

I had to check out what the rage was. Boba Tea.... I just wasn't feeling it, but I enjoyed the spring rolls which were really good. I ordered the Saka Beef which was a mistake on my part. The beef was tough and mixed with lettuce (should have been cabbage). But the food is cheap, service was awful, and the place was not clean whatsoever! We elected to sit outside, and there was litter all round the tables. They need to get one of there 15 year old employees to pick up all the garbage, because it was pretty bad. I might give this place another try, but I'm not in any rush!

This place is so affordable!!! Most dishes are $5.50 average and they have a good selection. Service is fast and friendly and the place was clean. Good food over all. By the way, they do accept credit cards, even Discover.

If you want Boba this is definitely the place to go. Mikey has incorporated real fruits in the blended drinks unlike regular Boba shops. I recommend Strawberry Mango with rainbow jelly. It's never disappoints. I do not recommend going here for food. If you see really Asian adults taking their family to an Asian restaurant you know the food is good if it's good enough for the people who can cook it themselves. That's not the case for Chopstix. There's not much variety in Monterey for native Vietnamese food but If you know real asian cuisine, you'd know that the Pho here is very bland and the the portions are definitely not worth the price. Down the street is Noodle Bar. If you're craving Vietnamese i recommend getting your drink at Chopstix and getting your meal at Noddle bar. The owners are related so I don't think it should be much of a problem. During dinner time, lunch or days with hot weather, expect to have delays in finding parking on the street.

The place had a nice atmosphere and the food was okay. Service was mediocre, nothing special. Everyone working was young and as another yelper said seemed lost. The difference between the large and small bowl of pho is the size of the bowl and the price you pretty much get the exact same amount but a different bowl. Other than that the price was fair.

First visit for us and to summarize our experience, service was prompt and attentive, the food was OK. The vegetarian springroll and the vietnamese eggroll were very good, so was my lemongrass beef served on lettuce and vermicelli noodles. My wife's barbecued porkchop was undercooked but tasted OK. They now serve beer and wine and accept credit cards. We will return to try more dishes. For a first time visit, we were not disappointed.

I am giving this a 2 star rting only because of the Boba, the rest of the food was not up to par of any Pho I have had. The service was not good, a lot of teenagers were working that day, which is fine but wish they would have not been in such a hurry and more knowledgable. I would say this restaurant is more of the fast food variety for people who are not looking for good Vietnamese food or know how wonderful a good bowl of Pho is. Will not return to this place.

We ordered the beef pho, shaken beef, and hazelnut boba. All of which were amazing and super cheap. Definitely coming here again.

I came for lunch on a weekday and it was actually pretty busy. They have a small parking lot but it kind of sucks. It's so typical that an asian restaurant would have a small cramped lot. I tried the spring rolls that were pretty tasty. The sauce could have been better but nothing that a little hoisin sauce couldn't fix. The pho here isn't bad at all. The serving size isn't huge like it is in LA/Westminster but good enough. The best thing that I tried though was the bbq pork sandwich (otherwise known as a bahn mi but when I called it that the waiter didn't know what I was talking about). It was smaller than Lee's Sandwiches but for 3.50 I got full. The bread isn't made in house but it's great quality.

I love this place. The place is really really Amazing. Wisconsin, where I'm from, doesn't have anything this close to real Malaysian. Authentic Vietnamese food with real Vietnamese people serving 100% Vietnam food. I love the scallions in the beef noodle soup. Where I'm from people are scared of Oriental favors. I'm not. I say bring'em on! We ordered the Egg Rolls and the sauce came out in this cute plastic container that you get when you order take out Chinese once when I was in Chicago. It tasted exactly the same as the ones I had at the best Chinese restaurant in Chicago though this place didn't have the white plastic forks that I like. But they had plastic dishes which reminded me of other fine Asian establishments I've visited back home. The spring rolls were nice and dry with authentic smelling bean sprouts with brown edges at the ends. The peanut butter sauce was very mild and didn't upset my stomach. It reminded me of Jiffy peanut butter just like my mom used. I guess they have those in China these days. We also ordered the beef broth soup and I got a whopping 5 slices of well done or almost wilted dry pieces of beef floating around a mysterious brown/tinted veggies that tasted like Kung Pau chicken. Wow, it's amazing how they managed to create this fusion flavor without even calling it a fusion Pha Bowl. This Place must have been really popular with the locals who must know a thing or two about Chinese food cuz i saw some people talk while waiting in the line about fish sauce. They are probably confusing it with Korean cuisine where fish is used but that's ok with me. I can teach them a thing or two about Authentic Vietnamese. I think I even saw an exotic looking person probably from the Orient. Wow. This Monterrey place is a real international place with lots of diversity. No wonder Clint Eastwood lives here.

Food pretty good, service not so good. With that being said, I still eat there regularly because for 5-6 bucks a meal I don't expect top notch service and incredible quality every time. For the low price, convenience, ability to order to go online, etc. It's pretty good.

I don't understand the fascination. The bobas are good but the food very disappointing. I had #12, the pork was fatty. My wife had #25, the rice was bland. I will stick with Noodle Bar in Marina or the original Chopstix in Seaside. Oh, it is stuffy inside and outside, lovely Munras traffic.

Food is flavorful and delicious. Spring rolls and beef or combination pho is my usual. I come here for a quick pho fix rather then traveling all the way to San Jose. In my experience the service has been decent.

We visit this restaurant all the time and have never had a bad experience there until yesterday (12/3/12). We went in to order take-out and sat at the bar while the staff made/served food. What I witnessed was gross! The female waitress had the sniffles and she wiped her nose 3 times with her hand and never washed her hands in the 15 minutes we were there. The young gentlemen making the snow/slushies was using the same cup to measure boba that he was snacking out of and when the kitchen door was open I watched the cook use a ladle to sample some soup and then he put it back into the pot. My guess is that I never would have witnessed any of this if I had been sitting at a table rather than getting take-out. I'm on the fence if we'll go back or not 'cause we really do love the food! uggh!

the 4 stars is for the service. They were very friendly and we noticed they were very helpful to those people who had never eaten Viet food before explaining what things were. While we live near a very large Viet community and are generally spoiled with amazing food, this was definitely able to hold us over while on vacation. If you're craving and happen to be in the area, this is definitely worth a visit.

Really yummy food, I went with my family and enjoyed a great lunch!! Service was good and friendly. I'm used to eating in SF, and this place compare quiet well for a quick bite to eat. The restaurant was really busy with eat in and takeouts, I surely visit again :-).

Great place for lunch. I haven't experienced the dinner situation yet but the food is good and I would give them 4 stars if I could tell the difference between the regular portion and the large besides the extra dollar they charge...:) but well worth it. The food is awesome. The people always have a smile on their face and you can't beat the $5.50 price. What I really like is the even give you the option for the delivery service. Highly recommend this place for lunch will probably write another review after the dinner experience...:)

The wait staff sucked today. No one even brought us plates when we ordered our appetizer and when I asked for them the girl gave me a look, didn't say anything, then came back and slammed them down on the edge of our table without saying a word and immediately walked away. After we got our drinks no one checked back, I needed more water badly. When they brought our check they didn't even ask if we needed or wanted anything else. Didn't notice our empty waters, AND i still wanted to order a boba to go. We had to pay, no one brought us our change so we had to walk up to the register to ask for it, then ask for the boba to go and pay separately for it.. which also took longer than it should have. For a lunch-time rush the place shouldn't be run by a bunch of young, inexperienced staff who don't serve the needs of their customers. I was very disappointed. The only time I plan to return is only to have boba for take-out. I feel, now, that's it's the only decent part of this place. Disappointing! Get it together Chopstix. You just opened in this location and your reviews are already only mediocre with such potential. Sad.

The best veggie pho ever! I love the fact that they use regular tofu (as opposed to baked), so it's not all chewy and hard to eat. The servers are friendly, hard-working, and eager to please. Plus, the dessert and milk tea was great - I got the fried banana with green tea ice cream, and the taro milk tea (includes boba). My only disappointment is that there is no Chopstix where I live in Pasadena, CA. (My family and I were in Monterey on vacation.) Otherwise, I think I'd practically move in to the restaurant!

Summary: - Service - very friendly and attentive - Food - *CHEAP* and just about right - Ambiance - dive-y but hip & trendy at the same time NOTE: a few dishes here = same price for 1 dish at most surrounding places. Come here if you're really hungry, want a cheap but good eat, or just to take a break from the usual dining spots ******* "I'll start with the fish balls and sweet potato fries...then a Pho Bo and the vegetarian glass noodles. We'll decide on the slush later." "Fish-what?" My fair lady immediately asked. "Erm, fish balls" "EWW, what the heck?" she rolls her eyes, giggles, and continues, "that just sounds gross..." I had this look on my face when right then and there, I figured she was completely innocent to the foods of the South Eastern part of this planet. I mean, she's gone to Food & Wine events as well as other tasting events. So it surprised me that she never heard of this. Oh wait, that wouldn't be a fair statement. She knows French, German, and definitely traditional American fare but I should have totally realized that the dead giveaway is what she orders at Japanese restaurants [or places that pretend to be Japanese]. Nice. It's time to devirginize-her-Asian-food-palette in this somewhat-Asian-fusion place. Obviously, it didn't go too well after she tried the fish balls. Yeah, just like sashimi doesn't sit well with her either...or the other random more street-like Asian foods. I ended up having to eat everything, which I am NOT going to even complain about. Well, to keep it short, I enjoyed this place and I'll definitely come back. I mean, all those dishes + our slushes were still cheaper than my single dish for lunch. So there is no way I'd complain [especially when the service is friendly!].

What do you mean I can buy a Vietnamese sandwich for $3?! Is that a misprint? And pho for $5? You pay that much for a soda around here! I have lived away from a Vietnamese restaurant for many years now, so I was so excited to happen upon this place when we were moving here. I recommend the lemongrass chicken/rice noodle bowl and the bbq chicken sandwich. The snow bubbles were yummy (we have liked orange, coconut, and peach, but there are many more to try). I have read the reviews on this place bashing their service, and you know, it's true, they are pretty horrible at it. I mean, you are just thinking, all I want to do is pay you for the food I just ate! How hard can it be! But it is worth it for the price and the food. So, I just avoid eating here when it is super crowded, and just enjoy it the rest of the time.

Over the past few years, I have patronized Chopstix Seaside / Monterey on numerous occasions. Bringing friends, family, and clients to Mikey's establishments. So it pains me to write this review but he needs to know that there are big time negative issues which translate into negative reviews. In our best effort to beat the lunch time crowd on 12/22 , my wife and I arrived at the Monterey location. We respectfully waited for eye contact from Mickey before taking a table. After several minutes of standing in the front , we were hopeful to sit in one the booths. I kindly asked the waiter if he could clean the table that was just vacated. He had this look as if we were bothering him. It was more important for him to talk to his friends at the other table. After taking our seats, the table was clear but not clean. Grease on the chairs, sauce and water spills from the previous guests. When Mickey started to make his way towards us, I thought he would maybe ask if we needed something or at minimum at least greet us. Nothing? He and the waiters continued to walk past us multiple times as if we were invisible. We felt disrespected as we waited 25 minutes from the time we walked in until the time we got up and walked out. More than happy to spend our money elsewhere. By the looks of things, many fellow "yelpers" feel the same way!

Do not order from this place. Based on the other reviews I thought it was too risky to order for delivery hence the wait and wrong orders from other customers. So, I decided to order for pick up instead. Called in for fried rice, pork BBQ and etc.. They said it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Okay that's fine, got there for pick up and the manager was RUDE! He said "ok your order is ready" without even knowing what we ordered. He said, "Oh boba" UMMMM.. No. We got to the register to pay and what do you know! Our order was incomplete. They didn't tell us they were "out of fried rice" while I ordered 30 minutes earlier. Didn't even bother to ask if we wanted anything else. Instead, he just said oh yeah we're out blah blah. Now, the manager was so rude because we asked why he didn't tell us about the fried rice prior to paying. The worse part was when we called back he said "chopstix were closed" lol what a way to proceed. Anyway, food was good. Service is horrible. Manager is in knowledgable and if they keep this up they'll go out business.

While I was vacationing in the Monterey area, I was craving for tea drinks. Within the area, I found that Chopstix was one of the few locations that specialized in tea or pearl drinks. Pros: Service: Service is super friendly and they seem to do their best to accommodate all the patrons within their tiny restaurant. Food: I personally love the spring rolls here just because their peanut sauce has an extra nuttier taste than most peanut sauces I've tried. They also offer rice noodle soups and rice dishes. Drinks: They have huge selection of snow bubbles, which is similar to smoothies. You can also choose from a slushes, blended coffees, and flavored teas. Price: I live in area with a mass selection of Vietnamese restaurants, and this place definitely priced all their food and drink items extremely cheap!!! Cons: Parking: The parking lot is super small and there are barely any visible lines to see where you are parking. Seating: Even though, there is indoor and outdoor seating, it's pretty limited. Overall, if you're in the Monterey area and is on low budget, then you should try Chopstix for their drinks and Vietnamese entrees.

I didn't have high expectations of this place since I'm from southern CA and we have tons of great viet restaurants but this place really impressed me. The prices are very reasonable and the flavor is spot on. The soup is not greasy and the chicken is not dry. The service was great. I esp like how they give separate plates of veggies for every bowl of noodles unlike cheap restaurants that give just one plate to share. I will def come back again when I'm in this part of town!

I love this place! The food is delicious and really affordable. It's crowded every night of the week, and the take-out is always going. I heard the sandwiches are the bomb! My fav is the Lemon-grass Chicken on brown rice. It's sort of odd that it's served on a small bed of lettuce with a slice of tomato. Never-the-less, it's tasty and I LIKE IT!

Won't be going back. My family of four and I have eaten at Chopstix too many times to count. We enjoyed the food and the prices. The service we received yesterday and the subsequent response to my complaint was so disappointing that we will not be going back. The waitress took our order and that was the last time we saw her. She was floating around but never once checked back to see if we needed anything. My 8 year old spilled her water.. never got another... we cleaned up the mess ourselves. My order sat at the kitchen counter way past my husband and child having eaten half of their lunch. FOUR staff people ignored the large bowl sitting on the counter until the kitchen cook looked at me and pointed to the bowl, gesturing was it mine? I nodded yes and then he yelled at one of the staff people to deliver it. I got up to get it myself, the staff member handed it to me and never once apologized. I had to ask for a take out container for my large bowl of soup and had to flag down someone like I was an air traffic controller because the staff were just clearly ignoring cries for help. Some other staff member (never our waitress... even though she glanced at me waving my arms in the air like a girl drowning in a pool) didn't think it was important enough he brings me a clearly too small container for what I needed and expected me to pour hot soup into a too small container at my table. I told him I don't think I could pour it without making a huge mess. He didn't care. He just left us to figure it out (It spilled all over the table like I guessed.) This is when I was seething and FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, did not leave a tip. Okay... my husband left .30 cents. Too much in my opinion. I talked to the manager/owner who immediately began to defend that things are just so busy and his wife is pregnant at home... the problem was not that he was short staffed.. it was that they were not doing their jobs. It's really important (to me anyway) that if you make a mistake(s), you apologize and acknowledge. Do not defend or make the customer feel that all your personal staffing problems and problems at home are to blame. The owner/manager was not professional and I did not leave feeling heard. Too bad. So sad. Goodbye.

Chopstix did a wee-bit better this time around than my prior experience. I didn't have to wait 20 minutes to get my food like the time before. I got the 5 spice chicken over noodles and avocado snow. The chicken was well cooked, but lacked ALL of the 5 spices. This dish was missing some serious flavor! The snow tasted artificial. I know they are made with powder no matter where you go, but it doesn't compare to the yummy smoothness of the avocado smoothie at Bahn Mi in Marina. Overall Thoughts: I like that I didn't have to wait so long like last time. .5 star better than last time ....barely.

House milk tea boba here is amazing. Lemongrass chicken plate is also good, the problem with Chopstix is the service. It's friendly enough, but highly disorganized. If you order to-go, make sure to open the box and check you got the right thing, don't just take their word for it.

    (4)
  • Bill T.

The food isn't that great, but it is cheap. Here's an example: I took some rice rolls to go, and the skins were all dried out and crunchy after a couple of hours. Higher quality rolls (from other restaurants) usually stay soft and chewy overnight.

  • Jesse M.

Dude.. tasty food at a great price.. I'm not even sure why you would even go to McDonald's. I recommend any of their soups but I especially love their BBQ sandwiches (pork or chicken) and their boba tea. Don't ask about delivery... because that guy is never working that day.

  • Aaron A.

Chopstix is slaggin on D. What was once a tasty, fresh, and piping hot soup affair has lost its mojo. After being open for just a few months now, the food has gone from good to bad, in near record time. The last few meals I have had here were served to me cold, not fresh, not hot. The meals were sloppily put together, lacking that cohesion of ingredients necessary for a respectable bowl of pho. Maybe it got too busy for its own good. It's always a packed house and they seem to just be slinging out the pho as fast as they can. Making plenty of money, yes, but no concern or care is put into the individual dish anymore. Sad. I'll have to start traveling the extra few miles for some other noodle bar.

  • Ernst W.

We go back every once in a while because they have excellent chicken noodle soup and a few other dishes. Service is good, portions are a bit small for some dishes but that relates to their reasonable prices. The place is sometimes so busy that it gets a bit loud and waiting time increases but overall a good place, after we have been back numerous times.

Food is usually alright and definitely can't complain about prices. Problem is service and cleanliness. I've been here several times, and service is mediocre at best. Sometimes you get waited on fairly soon, and sometimes you sit there for ten minutes before anyone even takes your drink order. I've had this issue at both this and the Fremont location. Cleanliness also leaves a lot to be desired. Sometimes I've been seated at sticky tables with sticky condiment/utensil holders, and I've found plenty of "movie theatre" spots on the floor. I've done takeout here once. The food was even less impressive. I guess they figured I wouldn't see how terrible it was until I got home. Bottom line: Definitely don't bother if it's busy, you'll never get waited on. On the other hand, if you'd like a decent boba tea and/or are just hard up for some kind of Vietnamese food, it'll do in a pinch.

As part of a trip I went here for lunch with the girlfriend. Had some great, flavorful pho, and awesomely fresh Boba. I would stay away from the beer here if I were you, ordered a Miller Lite that was 6 months old Service was typical, waitress checked in with us frequently throughout meal. Give it a shot!

  • Jim W.

For the price this place was great. Not so good, but not so bad. And in an effort to help keep our consumption of carbs down, they made sure there was very few noodles. The Lemongrass chicken and BBQ pork and shrimp noodles had a sauce that was unique.

Adore Vietnamese Meals! Fairly healthy meal choices are tasty, good portions at very inexpensive prices. The new location has attractive decor, inside or outside seating, and excellent entree choices. Service at most Asian eateries is "hit or miss" on the friendliness element, but it is usually fast and efficient. Of course, lunch and dinner rush hours are going to take a little longer anywhere. Shame on all those pre-madonnas out there that believe the world revolves around them. Narcissism is a very ugly trait, but very American! They should save us all from their presence and stay home!

Deck seating was all that was available yesterday when I stopped in for a bowl of Pho. Iced tea was a beautifully fragrant jasmine and felt like the perfect drink for the slightly sunny day. Limited seating but place was a bustle. I'd return for lunch. It's a no muss no fuss kinda place.

The service here is pretty bad. We have been here multiple times and each time they sat us, forgot about us, finally came back to take our order, and did not come back to check on us until we asked for something. The food is decent too. I would not say it is the best (Noodle Bar is much better and bigger servings), but it is all right. The only thing that we go back for is the Boba. The drinks are great and have a good price.

This is a great restaurant. We eat there at least twice a week Angelo really like it. Good food, good service with a friendly staff. Reasonably prices.

With a successful start, it is no big surprise that Chopstix decided to follow in Noodle Bar's footstep and open up a second location. Went last night around 8:30 to a bustling restaurant so decided on take out instead. I ordered the Mocha Cappuccino Boba + BBQ Pork Bahn Mi for under $6.25. While my wallet does appreciate the low cost, I can't but help and wonder if the drinks are worth $2.50. Essentially, its mocha powder blended with milk and ice. It make senses why its so "cheap" to make but it is quite unimpressive once you actually know what you are getting. As for the sandwich, the pork was unlike any I have ever tried but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I would order it again without hesitation. I was able to snag a bite of my friends popcorn chicken and found it to be lackluster and a poor imitation. I would change the batter, focus on uniformity in cutting the chicken, and introduce a better sauce. Overall Thoughts With low expectations, a light wallet, and an appetite, Chopstix will more than satisfy

Great value!!! Read about this place in the Monterey Weekly and had to try... Glad I did! Yumo!! I had the Mandarin Wings which were ok @ only $5.50! They hubby had the lemongrass beef (highly recommend) @ only $5.50 as well! Realized that u had to purchase $15 in order to use our debit card so decided to order specialty drinks & appetizer... Skip the calamari appetizer... But DO NOT skip their delish little drinks! DO try the matcha green tea!! Yummy!!! Will def be back!!!

We tried Chopstix tonight, and WOAH, YUMMY!!! When we got there (at 5:30ish) the place was busy with lots of people in line for take out orders and all tables inside full (except one, which we got). With me was my mother and my two kids. We were quickly approached with menu's and the waitress was super helpful with the kids choosing drinks (the oreo cookies and cream snow). The drink menu is AMAZING. I was reeling from choices! We started with the spring rolls (YUM) with peanut sauce (double yum). I had the five spice chicken, my mother and daughter had the won ton soup. My son had the snack of popcorn chicken. He wanted calamari, but they were out, no big deal, he'll get it next time! Our dinners were $5.50 each, add a $1 if you want the large size. We were checked on a few times, with nice smiling waiters and waitresses!! Like I said before the place was hopping busy, but we didn't wait any longer then usual for our order. We can't wait to go back. I feel bad that this great restaurant has a 3 star rating based on a few opening day glitches....

Sandwiches and soups are delicious, the best! Prices are incredible. But this location is unreliable, they are always out of one key ingredient or another, (IE out of bread for sandwiches), or their delivery person didnt go to work (90% of the time), so delivery is unavailable, and finally, they Close early all the time, when its slow, so they are very unreliable. otherwise the food and service (when they are open) is 5*s but service reliability is 2*s

  • L R.

We could literally smell the food down the block and it was YUMMY! We went in and chowed down. The food is very good!!! The only down fall was that they were trying get us out as quickly as possible. We were asked 9 times are we done. That was annoying but the food was good. I'll be back!

Food is above average for Vietnamese food in Monterey area. Service is awful and prices are a little steep for what you get. Biggest thing to keep in mind is that every single time except for one, out of about 20 visits between this location and the Seaside location, something in our order was wrong. I guess that sums up this place. Even though the orders are pretty much always wrong, we kept going back.

The food here is very cheap and tastes ok. But just expect everything to be very slow as they are understaffed...and don't expect the food will be the same. We ordered the same noodle twice, the second time they gave us different type of noodle, different broth and different meat..and we ordered two rice dishes at the same time, the rice in one plate is soft and the one in another plate is hard..if u just want cheap food, then it is the place, but just don't expect more

Don't order delivery because you'll just starve to death. Ordered delivery and they told me it'll be about 45 minutes.....an hour and 15 minutes later, called back to check on the order and the guy tells me the delivery guy left already and that I should get it soon. Note: he didn't even ask for my name, address or even what I had ordered....just blurted out that the delivery guy was out. To where? I don't know...maybe Vietnam? Called back an hour and 45 minutes later; cancelled my order. They didn't even ask why or attempt to provide an explanation of what happened or even offered an apology. Almost seemed like my order was never put in in the first place and they were glad that I cancelled the order.

It's hard for me not to give Chopstix 4 stars but based on my last experience i'm going to take a star off. First off, the underperforming qualities: - I had to wait about 10 minutes longer for my takeout order - steamed pork banh mi was dry (not bad, but could be better) - very little beef included in my pho (they've put in more before) - rice/dry noodle dishes a little plain (some meat and a veggie or two, not enough) But there's more than enough to give it another go: - great prices to fill you up - friendly staff and good atmosphere/upkeep - bbq pork is definitely good, just needs more than rice with it - i've had tasty pho from them before - good veggie spring rolls All in all, I think Chopstix may miss the mark during their busiest time, but they're usually a good, affordable option.

Delicious and spicy papaya salad; tasty chicken noodles; and very flavorful steak in the bun as well. The best part of this place is the price. $5 gets you almost every single entree on the menu. And $3.50 gets you a freshmade bahn mi! We will definitely come back when we are next in Monterey.

Got a large boba tea and was pretty much all ice so just get a small because my sister got one and had about the same amount of drink. The popcorn chicken was pretty good. I got a special combination noodle soup and it was ok. The soup was good but their wasn't enough meat. The price I feel is a little high considering the quantity and quality of the food.

I come out to Monterey quite often so I thought I give Chopsticks a try. The place is very tiny. When I first walked in, a staff who was behind the cash register looked up but did not say anything. As I waited for a staff to seat us, I noticed that every single booth and table was either filled with other customers or with food/dishes from previous customers. I stood around for a good 5 minutes at the doorway for the tables to be cleaned so that I could be seated. From here on, the service was just terrible. We waited awhile for our orders to be taken. Water was delivered to us right before our food came out. We made it simple with two bowls of #5 and a side order of spring rolls. The pho was very bland, even after adding the limited condiments. Salt and pepper was no where to be found, or even a staff to help accommodate that. Throughout our dining experience, never once did a staff asked how we were doing. The same staff (male) that stood at the register stood there a majority of the time, while a female staff took and delivered orders as well as bust tables. I also notice other customers coming in and standing in walk ways and doorways waiting to be acknowledged or seated. After dining, I went to pay my tab. The same male staff who had been standing at the register a majority of the time helped me with my tab. He handed me a receipt to sign, without exchanging any word. As I finished I handed to him, but he paid no attention to me. Why? He had his phone on the register and he was playing games on his phone. He didn't care, he ran my card already. This just shows how poor of customer service this particular staff had. For all he cared, he was being paid for to stand at the register and run tabs. With customer service like this, I don't think I will be going back, even if they had the best noodles in town (which wasn't what I experienced anyways).

Chopstix was a lunchtime favorite because the quality of food, the speedy service, and the price of food. I don't know what's happened, but this year has seen a slide in the quality of food and service. If you arrive near lunch, expect to wait for table. That's ok and expected so I don't have a problem with that. We arrived today around 1115 and got to a table quickly. It then took 10 minutes for someone to take our order and over 20 minutes to get our food. One of the people I go to lunch with has an allergy and not only did the server note the allergy but also the manager. What did the order come with? Yes, the same thing that was supposed to be excluded from the order. We were so miffed about the bad service that we didn't leave a tip. Once you get your food, it's ok quality and good size for the price. It's definitely a cheaper lunch that usually is ok to eat but if you end up waiting 20-30 minutes and have to send your order back, you are not going to be in a good mood. It's loud and the staff has become worse over time, I'm hoping it improves but for now I'll be over at Pizza My Heart or Subway.

Hands down one of the best casual places to eat in Monterey! We only lived there for 9 months and this became a "regular" place to eat. Good sized portions for great prices! And you can't leave without a Boba. For those who don't want soup/pho... try the spring rolls for sure. BBQ pork sandwich is a good alternative. Great website to order from as well.We are going to miss this place!

After a one year absence, and a fond memory of our last visit to Chopstix, we were looking forward to a good meal during this visit to the Monterey area. Unfortunately, the meal did not measure up. While the green papaya salad was pretty good, the spring rolls had some age to them and were down right chewy. The lemon grass beef had overcooked beef, little lemon grass, and was more of a teriyaki than Viet dish. My organic tofu and vegetables was a complete failure, the tofu was dried out and rubbery while the veg were all flavorless. We will look for an alternative when we want Viet food.

This place is horrible, food is okay. Please do yourself a favor and listen to the bad reviews about this place like I should have, cause they're 100% true. From the shittiest service to the unprofessionalism of the manager. Trust me you don't want to deal with it. My visit here: I ordered about 6 plates for pick up through the phone.. The person said it would 20-25 min. About 25 minutes later came in the restaurant, didn't even get greeted but here is the manager assuming I got some boba drink. Anyways I paid for my order and left the place. I got to my place and noticed two of my order was missing, yes part of it was my fault for not double checking but i was in a rush. Called back the place.. No answer. Called them back again, got an answer "CHOPSTIX, WE'RE CLOSED" when it's barely 8:00PM and they're suppose to close at 9:00PM. Anyways I told the guy what the problem was.. You guys didn't give me the two order of house fried rice I ordered, blah blah this and that we called you a couple times and tried telling you we were out of fried rice. Ok hold on, if you guys tried calling me, first of all I would've had a missed call from you guys, 2nd a voicemail. This is the manager I'm talking to.. What a joke, first you messed up my order 2nd you just tried lying to me. I didn't wanna deal with all the i un-professionalism from this clown. So I told him, forget it. That's the last time Ill be dealing with you guys. Keep up the horrible service guys. This place NEEDS a new management.

Frankly, I think Chopstix only deserves 3.5 stars for food but the service was pretty good and it is always a nice treat to come across a DECENT pho restaurant. Compared to pho in Houston and Dallas, it is just decent. However, if you are looking to curb your crave, it will do. The eggrolls were crispy and pretty good, but I was disappointed that a couple were cold in the middle. I find it funny that the place is so Americanized that they don't even call the sandwiches banh mi, it's just "vietnamese sandwiches." It didn't taste very authentic at all, so i'll stick to the pho bo. The bubble teas are decent as well.

This is my go-to place in Monterey. Cheap and delicious Pho with boba drinks and beer. I've been here a few dozen times and I've always felt satisfied. The wait staff is consistently friendly and low key, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the portions are huge. During the lunch-hour rush the wait for a table can get gnarly, but it's perfectly understandable seeing how popular this place is. I usually stick to the soups because the veggies and broth are always super fresh and flavorful.

I'm stunned! This place was great, and the price was even better. I almost gave up on Asian cuisine for good on the central coast, but this place shocked me. It's small, so big(6+)groups beware. I had BBQ pork & shrimp noodles and calamari for lunch. That was great so I decided to order 4 more to-go for family dinner. The difference between Large($6.50)/reg($5.50) was minimal to-go, but have not seen the difference table side. My family and I like everything. Not very greasy/heavy, clean veggies, and as stated before the portion was great for the price. I'v read negative comments about the staff, but I had no problems(even kept me updated on status of to-go order).

I grew up eating Vietnamese food at "Little Paris 2" in Chinatown, SF. So this is the closest thing in the area to that. Lately I have been on a total Vietnamese and Thai food kick. I get it at every possible opportunity and in every form (even bought the TJ's vermicelli, chicken salad the other day lol). I happened to be in monterey and so decided to check out the new chopstix. It was a Thursday night at 7 and the place was PACKED. Every table and counter space was filled and a line of about 4 different groups was at the door. I ordered my food at the front as a to go. Taro and Mango Bobas with Banh Mi sammies. The boba is the best in the area. The pearls are a little too firm for me. When they get too firm you taste just how cornstarchy they are. The drink mix was good, it's all powdered stuff blended with ice but the flavors were good. At the bottom of the drink it was a bit icey for me. The sandwiches were too sweet for me. The pickled veggies were not acidic enough, they were almost candied with a hint of vinegar. I got the bbq pork and chicken. They slather it in a sweet sauce that I didn't care for. Against the veggies it was all to sweet. The bun was softer than my last experience with their sandwiches. So that was nice. Overall, I'm used to Banh Mi's with some liver pate in them. The rich pate against the sweet and vinegary pickles with fresh jalepenos, cilantro and salty meat is more what I'm used too. Next time I go I will sit down and order plate/bowls. I've had their papaya salad and I'm sure they do amazing noodles and rice. I give it 4 stars because I think I just ordered the wrong thing. Will DEFINitely hit this place up again. Esp cause it's so cheap and yummy.

I had the combination pho. The broth was good but the noodles just wouldn't soften well. There were also pieces of meat that were TOO chewy, like gum (not edible). The fried eggrolls were mediocre and the sauce they had for it was just plain sweet & sour sauce, unlike the awesome sauce you find at authentic Vietnamese restaurants. The boba however was probably the best part of the meal. I had the lychee milk tea and it was pretty good. The ambiance was nice until the rush came and the place got loud quick. But the food came out pretty quick so that's a plus. Also it was the standard cheap prices I expect from a Vietnamese restaurant

This place gets one star because the food is pretty good (otherwise it would get ZERO STARS!). The takeout ordering system SUCKS. It doesn't matter if you order online or on the phone. They have managed to mess up our order on several occasions. We even called in an order to the Seaside location and when we arrived to pick it up, they said the order went to the Monterey location AND the order was wrong! When we've ordered online, the same thing has happened. We've also ordered online to find out when we drove down that the place was CLOSED. The wait time at the restaurant is typically a long wait. The food is pretty good (thus, why we've put up with so much crap with the takeout ordering system) and the food is cheap, which I'm guessing is why they always seem busy. I'd recommend checking out Noodle Bar in Marina instead. Similar food and price (I think the owners are related) but the service is a thousand times better.

I really enjoyed my first dining experience at their Munras location. It felt less overwhelmingly cramped when compared to their bustling Seaside spot (still a great choice for take-out). I'm a fan of the stir-fried egg noodles, which is similar to a chow mein. I get it with chicken only (it's usually served with "a combination of meats," which just sounds scary...). It always arrives with a decent amount of chicken, plus lots of fresh squash, mushrooms, and broccoli. Fresh veggies are essential. I hate it when you get a dish like this and the veggies are all wilty and gross. Just becuase you cook it doesn't mean I can't tell they're on their way out! My top 2 bobas are the Oreo Snow and Mocha Blast. I'm a chocolate or coffee kind of gal. Sorry durian.

My husband and son love pho, so we go every week. I think their pho is okay. My favorite dish is their 5 spiced chicken over rice noodles and my daughter loves their sweet and sour chicken. Most of the food we've tried there has been very good and you can't beat the price. We usually wait for a table, but not more than 10 minutes. It's worth the wait. The food comes out very quickly. The servers are extremely busy and constantly moving, but I have found they check on us frequently. It's a small place so if you really need something, you can wave someone down and they'll get you what you need stat.

My husband is allergic to shrimp and we asked for NO shrimp due to his allergy. And lo and behold what do they bring us? Pho with shrimp. I took it back inside and spoke to another waiter. He returned a few minutes after with another bowl which we assumed was a new one. After poking around a bit what do we find? You guessed it. More shrimp! Obviously they only tried to fish out the visible pieces and failed. Long story short I didn't touch my bowl, my husband finished his not to be rude (and I'm sure he's having an allergic reaction cause he keeps scratching but claims he's fine) and we only paid for my bowl. No tax, no tip. If I could give zero stars I would. I'm tired of always getting bad service at this chain! This new location is worse than the other one in Seaside. Never again. Also, location is very small. Expect a long wait.

Sooo disappointed. After being out of town for a few months, I brought some coworkers here after talking about how great this place was. They weren't anymore busy than usual, but they forgot about us on the patio, forgot one of our drinks, then brought the food out and had no idea if it was ours or not. Worst customer service experience in the last few weeks.

DISCLAIMER... I am addicted to their lemonade. ADDICTED. It's awesome. ChopStix is fast, clean, and fresh. I stick with the beef-based dishes (pho-bo) and the vegetarian spring rolls, as I don't *do* chicken. I love the peanut sauce that comes with the spring rolls and like to add a variety of their table-side condiments to spice it up. They have an endless boba menu and my boyfriend likes to have a different one each time. There are two locations and the Seaside spot finally lets you use a credit card. You have to spend $15, though. (They charge $.50 if you are under.)

    (4)
  • LJ K.

I was in Carmel for a weekend vacation. My friends who had been here before recommended it. I really liked the spring roll and the peanut sauces was creamy and warm like they just made it. Their pho was a cleaner taste than I have tasted before meaning no greasy after taste. Also, I am not sure if he was the manager, but I asked the worker if he knew of any place for night life, or even an area with some Korean stores and he was helpful and explained that the asian population was very minimal. We ate so much....it was a good end to the first night. ^_^

Great place to hang out & drink boba/slush. Food here isn't that great, but the price is very reasonable. ( almost all the dishes are around 5.50 and bobas are around 2.50) Service is a little slow and almost all the waiters/waitresses there were very young and seemed a little lost. Bottom line: I would come here for a quick boba pick up or to hang out with friends, but if I'm craving a good vietnamese dish, I would go somewhere else (like pho king in seaside).

I Love this place! The menu is simple, the food is great and the price is just right! You also have to try their Boba! It is perfect! The only downside to the amazing place is that it is cash only and it is ALWAYS busy! I guess the later isn't a bad thing since we never eat in, we always take it to-go!

Fried Egg Noodles were fantastic. Went in with my sister (her review is below) not expecting much, as most of the Viet food where I'm from kinda sucks, and was genuinely surprised. The spring rolls and sweet potato fries were also quite tasty.

Delicious. We had a bunch of their dishes from fried rice to pho to sandwiches and it was all great! The drinks are good too. I had strawberry lemonade and everyone else had milk tea. It was all great I'd go back if I lived here

Waited forever for this place to open since it is near our home and we love Vietnamese food. Ate there once and found the food to be below average and the service to be indifferent at best. Too bad...I had visions of hanging out here slurping bowls of Pho when the fog rolled in. Don't feel like returning since too many other reviews support my impressions. Besides, Seaside isn't that far away, just can't walk there.

This place is classic with many Boba drinks and good tasty and well priced Vietnamese Food. I really like the server Anastacia and all the nice kids that run the place as well as the main man behind the register Mike. After hearing many rave reviews for Chopstix I had to get in there and try it for myself. I ordered the veggie egg rolls (5 to an order), a Thai Iced Tea with boba, and beef Pho. The portions are large so either come hungry or be prepared to leave with left overs. Their prices were very reasonable, in fact cheap. I got out of there for under $15 before tip and that was including the $0.50 charge for credit card orders under $15 sure beats the ATM fee. The pho was the kind of soup I would want when I'm sick in bed with the flu, I added a little Siracha hot sauce and it was perfect. My only complaint was that the egg rolls were a little greasy but not too bad.

Overall not a great experience. Poor service on top of mediocre food left me feeling unsatisfied. When we arrived we chose to sit outside. After waiting for ten minutes the staff discovered they had sat us lol. Spring rolls bland with poor peanut sauce. Pork and shrimp greasy with a whopping two shrimp. Beef soup some of the worst I have ever had wit the meat being the consistency of braised rubber. After finishing dinner we had to pay with a check because they did not clearly mark no cards.

  • Charles B.

The service here has taken a huge turn for the worse. I'm sorry, but there is no reason to have poor service the middle of a day when your business isn't that busy. The previous time we ate here they seemed to have a few of the kinks worked out and things went a bit better. However, it has now gone from slow to reverse. 2+ hours to order, eat, and get the bill. This included getting someone working there to come help us plus getting sprayed by a sprinkler. PLEASE go to the one in Seaside instead. Their service is great and the food plus prices are the exact same. This is my fourth time here, and I will not be returning.

  • Candice G.

So disappointed to be writing this review, because we have eaten here often. The service has really, really gone down. It was never great service to begin with, but pleasant enough. First of all: don't sit outside. For one thing, you will be completely ignored, it will take twice as long to order, get food and get out of there. Also, they have about six septic manhole covers outside and it smells AWFUL. Now, to the review. We went in yesterday and sat outside because there was no room inside. We waited 10 minutes for a menu, and my husband had to go in and ask for one. The young girl, new, I think because we had never seen her, was very flippant and said "oh, I was just coming." We got out menus and waited another 10 minutes for someone to take our order. They didn't. We found a booth inside and moved in, and the same girl asked very rudely "oh. You want to move inside?" Clearly. Another 10 minutes before she took our order. She never came back with the drinks and we watched her socializing with the young men behind the counter. We had two, very hungry children with us, I should mention. 10 more minutes. No drinks. We watched other people, with different servers, be seated, get drinks and orders in. 30 minutes from the time we walked in, we walked out without drinks, without food and we will not be back. Sorry Chopstix, we headed over to a local pizza place and rescued lunch. Time to find a new pho place in Monterey.

  • Hannah R.

Let me start off and say that I am a loyal Chopstix customer. I used to go to the one in Seaside and now, since I've moved, I go to this location fairly often for boba and a quick meal. The food here is amazing, especially considering the great price (5.50 for a filling meal) and their boba is the best around (trust me, I've tried them all!). The ONLY thing that is lacking in the Chopstix locations is the service. I thought that this one in Monterey would have better service since, you know, it's in Monterey. But unfortunately, the servers still give off the vibe that they are young teenagers who are inexperienced. I would say the majority of the times I sit here to eat, the servers never refill the water (or take forever to do it while they are just standing around), hardly ever come by to check on us, and they simple just lack normal server skills (giving us the check before our meal is done, for example). I'm never one to be picky like this, but this business should really look into more experienced workers. If they were just a little more friendly (smile maybe? initiate a little conversation?) and professional, this place would be absolutely perfect.

Worst service ever! Seaside chopstix service is 100% better. I had to grab a server to get our order, and another time because they forgot my friends Boba tea. Definitely will stick to the seaside chopstix from now on.

Food is okay, menu is small and very non traditional Vietnamese. But what really ruined it for me, I made the mistake of using their bathroom before my meal! Smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, it was unisex and you know how most guys are with their aiming.. I won't go back.

  • Jenn K.

My experience was a good one here. The food was good and you get a a lot for your $. I have had Vietnamese food before and I do enjoy it, and Chopstix does seem to offer a great variety of choices. Food is good for families if your kids like noodles and rice. The food is not heavy at all, as i should not be. They have a great variety of drinks as well (non-alcoholic). It is not the best I have had, but with the price, the food is good and it presents a great value.

Excellent food! The quality is great and the flavor is amazing! we come to Chopstix as a family at least once a week. My 2 and 7 year old boys both love it! We usually get the papaya salad, spring rolls, and the lemon grass bowl with chicken and beef. For the price of food here, you will find no better deals on the peninsula. We just tried one of the sandwiches last night for the first time and it was delicious! I could not believe it was only $3.50! I am so glad they opened one in Monterey! Great job Chopstix!

Nice place Fast services Good food Order the small size, the large is an extra dollar but they look the same quantity to me just the bowl is bigger. Do you self a favor order an avocado boba, I know it sounds crazy but you will thank me later.

I just can't stay away from the DELICIOUS Avocado shake paired with some spicy, spicy Lemongrass chicken. Nice and spicy and so flavorful. I introduced a Vietnamese virgin (someone who hadn't tried Vietnamese food before) to the Shaken Beef and they LOVED it!!!!!!

The food is good here. They have vegetarian pho, an eggplant tofu dish, and a veggie banh mi. The main problem I have is service. The last four trips have been sketchy. They forgot our table one night. It's not good when you have to request to order. The next few times they forgot to bring things out. Please either hire more staff or be more thorough. It's annoying. You should make the customer feel welcome not make us feel like you're doing us a favor.

Ok, so I said I would never go back, but the food is so damn good and cheap! The service was better the last two times too. The owners must have gotten the hint and adjusted accordingly...Thank goodness ;)

I like the pho here but I always think twice before coming in because the service sucks. I walk in and the party after me gets greeted and seated before me, WTH? I didn't get any water even after I asked for it... I understand they can be busy at times but I ate my whole meal with nothing to drink! I can't even get their attention. And the thing I dislike the most is that my appetizer comes out at the same time as my pho! You know what that means, the rice noodles will suck in all the broth and by the time you are ready for pho, you are practically eating brothless pho!

This place was great!!!! A friend and I were looking for a spot to munch out and ran into this place. The portions are big and the food is delicious. I also tried Boba for the first time and it was really good. The staff was really sweet and helpful. A+ definitely coming back soon.

The food is usually decent and certainly the price can't be beat but it's hard to get past the poor service. The servers seem inexperienced and don't appear to care about their jobs or the customers very much. The wait can be long during busy times and the staff have no concept of crowd management. When I've come with a group our food often comes out at very different times, the last dish arriving up to 15 minutes after the first came out, which creates an uncomfortable situation at the table as half of us politely allow our food to get cold. During the busy times the people behind the counter are sometimes determined to ignore you if you're waiting at the bar to request something like a water or extra silverware. I will probably continue to go to Chopstix because it's so darn cheap, but be forewarned about the overall experience.

Minus 1 star, cause every time I come here, I feel like Oliver Twist -- "Please, Sir, may I have some more...?" This place is really a 4 star cheap-fast-AsianAmerican eatery. I have no complaints for taste since it is one of the better places to eat in Monterey. However, my gripe is with the amount of food they give you (especially the rice plates). I mean, I can literally counted the 5 small pieces of beef on my plate. I know they give you a large bowl if you order the Pho, but you can't count MGS soup as nutrients that will sustain you. I eat below average in terms of amount for an average male and it wasn't even close to being enough for me. For my 100 pound girlfriend, it was perfect. So I ended up ordering appetizers and desert. So if you actually add up the amount of food you'll have to order to be satisfied, the place is not that cheap after all. Also, there are only about 10 tables at the location, so there may be some waiting during busy hours. I guess if you were on a diet, this place would be perfect for you.

Although this is the sister restaurant to the one that is in Seaside, I prefer to dine in at this location. It's a lot more spacious and they delivered quick service! Food was great as usual - got my beef pho this time around. And to top it off, my friend's boss was there and he took care of our tab. HOLLA!!

Food is great!! Service is awful! I come often for the food but every single time I come the staff sits around talking at the bar. I have to ask for help every time! Aside from the same two employees who are always willing to help. Thank you Mikey and Sean!

The food was mediocre but the service was poor. Customers who came in after us were served before us. We came in and sat down at a table. The server gave us our menus and place settings. We then noticed ants on the table and moved to the table behind us. After moving we sat for at least 5 min before we noticed that a couple that came after us was being served drinks and getting their order taken before us! The server literally walked passed our table to serve them. When approached about the oversight the waiter apologized but that just ruined the experience for my date and I.

I'm Vietnamese...from Orange County, where the 2nd largest population of Vietnamese people live outside of Viet Nam. I lived about 10 minutes away from Little Saigon and have had the best Vietnamese food both in the United States and Viet Nam. I know what I'm talking about. Chopstix does not serve good Vietnamese food. That being said...it's decent. It's a safe place to get newbies to try Vietnamese food. Trust me. I know. I got my roommate and friends (non-Vietnamese, safe eaters) to try it and they think it's pretty good. The only thing I order here is the Lemon Grass beef with noodles (Bun Bo Xao). It's flavorful and the portions are generous. I would avoid the eggrolls and Vietnamese coffee. This is a good place for those on a budget. Flavors aren't very authentic, but a good introductory course. Service is spotty. I've had good and meh. This place is run by some young people (not to say young people don't know what they're doing). They're nice, but I think the manager/owner guy is unprofessional. He has personal conversations loudly in the restaurant. He complains about guests after they leave in front of other guests (hey I wonder what he's going to say about me when I walk out). I guess it's a casual place and he can do whatever he wants, but save those conversations with your employees elsewhere.

We stayed by fishermans wharf but we were craving Vietnamese food. We found this restaurant on yelp and we were not disappointed. They have a large selection of Boba milk tea. We ordered taro slush and it was excellent. We ordered spicy beef noodle soup (bun bo hue), it was flavorful and aromatic. The pho was excellent, with a fragrant rich tasty broth. We also had the basil eggplant chicken with rice, and it was well seasoned. Overall friendly service, good food, and reasonable prices. I will go there again when I am back in Monterrey.

The food is great and the prices are wonderful. The people working there are friendly. My only gripe is the service. We had to ask several times for water and then they never came back to refill our glasses. We had to raise our hands to get the girls attention. Please be more attentive with your customers and spend less time on your cell phone at the counter. 4 stars because I couldn't leave 3.5. Better than 3 stars. Again I say that the food is very good! Would visit again.

This Chopstix is conveniently located just down the street from the Del Monte Center (Monterey's outdoor shopping mall). It's fairly small inside and is quite busy due to their tasty Vietnamese food at an incredible value! They serve Viet. appetizers, pho, bun bo hue, udon & wonton soups, dry-noodle bowl dishes, rice platter dishes, Viet. sando's, and dessert. The dishes are $5.50, and the sammie's are only $3.50. There is about 9 tables and a small bar area with a handful of barstools. The wait staff is great and really friendly. They have oodles of delicious boba drinks categorized as: milk tea (29 flavors), flavored tea (18 flavors), mocha blast (9 flavors), snow bubble (24 flavors), slush (23 flavors), and specialties (15 flavors). If I lived next door, I think I would have to try all 115+ choices! Good thing I don't or I'd probably have to pimp my bod with an insulin pump to manage all that suga! Enjoy in moderation folks! Drinks are reasonably priced between $2.50 - $3.75. I prefer milk tea with boba, which is only $2.50! *fist pump* Want some pho-kin great cheap-eats in Monterey?... then Chopstix is IT! Pho-reals! We stumbled on this little restaurant the day before my daughter was moving out of Monterey. Too bad! Great restaurant, very reasonably priced, we ordered lemon grass chicken, veggie spring rolls, house fried rice, veggie pho soup, and green papaya and every single dish was FANTASTIC!!!!! You can't go wrong! Dishes were all around $5-$7 each which was very reasonable. Quick, fresh, and friendly service. You will love it!

The Boba drinks are awesome here! While visiting, I grabbed a drink with my meal. The wife and I agreed to come back the next day to pick up another one before we headed home. I had ordered the sandwich, and it was comparable to Vietnamese sandwiches that I've had before. Only downer was that the bread was a bit hard. I also ordered a Pork and Shrimp noodle bowl and it was fairly good too. I would definitely come by again for a drink again. Maybe I'll try another dish. The place is extremely cheap, especially in these towns where meals cost about double the price.

Five spice chicken bowl with noodles is the best. I've had their Lemon Gras but nothing beats the five spice. I love this place. So cheap and affordable. The boba here is the best especially the taro flavor!!!! I can't have enough of this place. Most of their food or should I say all their food is under $10 n boba is less than $4. Totally recommend coming here!!

Decided to give them a chance after the disgruntled employee episode. First time was ok. Went back tonight and got a horrible stomach ache upon leaving the restaurant. I also felt super tired so I suspect there is a significant amount of msg in the food. It's cheap food and you get what you pay for. Dine someplace else.

Food was delicious! I had the stir-fry tofu with noodles and it was wonderful. Husband had the shaken beef and loved it. We ordered in and planed to pick up at 4:30, but we were running very late and called and they pushed the order back for us. Walked in the door and the food was just coming out of the kitchen- no wait time or soggy food, big plus. Recommended! Only giving 4 stars because we didn't dine in so we can't comment on the wait staff.

yummy Vietnamese food with great price and lots of selections (sandwiches, pho, rice place, cold noodle...) ! Also have a good selection of Boba tea, slush, smoothie. Place looked pretty clean also, with a private parking lot for the customer.

Whenever I want cheap, delicious food, I go to Chopstix. Not gonna lie - it's not the best Vietnamese food, BUT it's still really yummy, and with their prices... How can you even complain?! My favorites are: calamari, combination pho, veggie ham spring rolls (the peanut sauce is AMAZING), and the veggie ham sandwich. I can't even explain how much I love the sandwich, it's even better with peanut sauce, hoisin, and sriracha. Oh! And don't forget to try their boba! My favorite is the passion fruit mango slush =P

I was here to have lunch when we just sat down the waiter named Mike was so rude he just threw the menu in front of my face without said anything .. And a minute later he put 2 glass of water even we havent order anything yet?... Whats??? He was so rude.. I could not believe my eyes??? The reason i still give them 2 star because the food was good and the lady waiter who served me off and on was nice.. Thats it!! I dont think i will coming back to this place again!!

Let me start by saying that I love love love the one in Seaside. The staff is always personable and friendly. So, sadly, I have to report that the one here by MPC is my least favorite. Every time I come in, the staff is preoccupied with their own conversations and inner-workings. Today was no different. I walked in to the servers at the food window yelling back about orders. Nobody acknowledged I came in, and I awkwardly stood there for what seemed like an eternity before I finally decided to seat myself. Then, it took an additional (roughly) 7 minutes just to get a placemat and menu, with a curt "for here, right?" before they walked away again. Seriously, go to the one in seaside and save yourself the embarrassment of judging the franchise solely on this location. Give it a chance.... In seaside. As a PS: it really seems to be just one person who is dragging the rest down. They clearly don't want to be here and I hope it changes before it affects business!

This place was great. I work around the corner and was craving some Pho and spring rolls so I decided to check it out. I ordered the classic spring rolls which came with shrimp and pork and Pho Bo (rare beef). It was packaged nicely to go with the soup in one container and rice noodles, bean sprouts, mint, and lime in another. It came with packets of hoisin, sriracha, and soy sauce. The spring rolls came with 2 containers of delicious peanut sauce. My order was less than $12 and was enough for 2 meals. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch and will be back to try more menu items! Thank you Chopstix!

I have this thing about not wanting to review places where I visit regularly. Everytime I think about writing a review about Chopstix, I'm torn -- because I obviously like their food (or I wouldn't keep getting it) but their customer service is pretty much terrible (which is why I usually get takeout and/or expect to be treated like crap). I am reluctant to give them 4 stars but then I'm like "why would I be a regular at a place that I give anything less than 4 stars? Gawd, I am such a masochist." The food actually isn't even that great. What is great is the combination of cheap, conveniently located (for me), and well packaged take-out. I like the pho especially and get it regularly, but it's not the best pho I've had. However, see above -- cheap and closest to me, so easy to grab and go. They do brisk business at the Monterey location and maybe that explains some of the customer service shortfall. But if I were to rate if just on dine-in experiences, it would be maybe 2 stars -- because service is poor even when they're not busy. The communication among staff about who is responsible for which table isn't quite there and can cause major lapses. And they aren't great about bussing tables and ensuring all utensils and condiments are available in a timely manner. But when they're good, they're very, very good. So... on those days, it's easy to overlook all the other bad days and relax and enjoy a meal. But on the bad days, ugh, gawd, you just want to get up and leave and find someone else who can cure your pho addiction. It's very hit or miss, Russian Roulette dining. So, I recommend takeout. Also: bring cash if your bill will be less than $15 or they'll charge you extra to use your card.

It's hard to find Vietnamese food (and Boba!) in one place so I was happy to find this restaurant while we were on vacay in the Monterey area. I loved their boba and would gladly go back anytime. However, their food was a little disappointing for our party of 5. The pho we ordered was not hot and was very oily on top. My bun with grilled meat tasted weird, like perhaps too much star anise or something, because it didn't taste like Vietnamese flavoring. The fried calamari appetizer was served on a paper carton like fast food and tasted like it had been frozen way too long. It did not taste good and we left it after a couple bites. I know the prices are very reasonable but we just couldn't bring ourselves to go back a second time.

Really good pho and the sandwiches! We were really glad we found this place on yelp. After being disappointed with other places in Monterey that we used to frequent. The bubble tea is amazing too we had coconut and mango

I do not recommend this place unless it's a rainy day and your only in there for the view. The food here is bland, and honestly sucks. I tried the pho (I strongly do not recommend) and a BBQ plate. The stars are for the view and it's lovely location. Service was not that good either...

A great value in Monterey. They have pho, rice and noodle dishes, Vietnamese sandwiches, and a variety of appetizers. They also have a nice selection of domestic and imported beer.

Great food at an affordable price - - - it was not a surprise that customers kept streaming in while we ate our dinner. I tried the egg noodle, vegetable and mixed meat stir fry. My wife ordered the basil eggplant and chicken dish with rice. Both dishes were large servings and very flavorful. Quick, friendly service.

My favorite restaurant in monterey! I'm going to miss it when I'm gone! I'm here every weekend and I've tried tons of stuff on the menu but my favorite is the lemon grass chicken and Vietnamese egg rolls. If you're into Asian food and in the area stop by here! The prices are incredibly low for the amount of food you get!

  • Gary S.

I've been to this place only a couple times, after a couple friends told me about it. Parking is not the best considering that quite a few customers come to this place. The spring rolls are good with the peanut sauce, I've had the dry noodle and rice dishes and the pho. For the price one ought not to complain. I believe that the food served here is authentic Vietnamese unlike a certain other ethnic restaurants in the same part of the world. For good basic Vietnamese street food this is the place to go to!

Chopsticks is a gem in monterey for vietnamese food. I live in the bay area and work out here in the monterey county . I have tried many Asian vietnamese restaurant in the area and have to say that chopstixs keeps me coming back. Their noodles are awesome, the broth is fresh tasty and not bland . Although their combo is slightly different from many different pho restaurant it is unique , having chicken beef and shrimp. Their selection of boba is excellent of which I do get here and there. Their vietnamese sandwiches are awesome although they have a limited selection it is very tasty.

This place is pretty good but the thing I love best about it is it's WONDERFUL WORKERS. My personal favorite is a beautiful waitress named Beverly. She's kind, professional, and funny as hell! So it's funny when I see a review a couple of days ago stating she was rude to a customer WHEN SHE MOVED TO SAC 3 MONTHS AGO. All broads who have a prob with her should Facebook her, she's more than happy to set you straight. Oh and btw "random customer Catalina" it's bull when you say you've never met her before but some how know her name is Beverly becauseeee CHOPSTIX HAS NO NAME TAGS. haha, don't let petty hate stop you from enjoying the good noodles and nice people who work here ;)

Service was awful. Quick, but terrible. Server didn't check on us once and when I asked to get a new dish because I was allergic to mushrooms, same dish came back picked through with no mushrooms. For a person with a severe allergy, this could be of be a dangerous situation! Not to mention when I asked to get a new dish, servers response was I guess and he seemed very displeased.

I would put no stars if I could. Anybody who likes the food here doesn't know a thing about good Viet food or good food, period. This restaurant is the worst noodle spot I've ever been to in my whole life. I've lived in Asia for half a decade so trust me, I know. Didn't they just have a health code violation? In Monterey ? That's just foul. Plus their food is not up to par, I will never ever waste my money again supporting this business.

We came in on Mother's Day morning and had the displeasure of dealing with your typical unhappy and bored server. Yaaaay *rolls eyes* I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you're working in a customer service position, learn to smile, be cordial, and have the decency to show respect to patrons! Otherwise, GTFO and find another job where you can brood and be unhappy about your life. Continuing on, we came in specifically for their boba drinks so this review is based solely on this one-time purchase. I ordered the large mocha blast with double boba, and my son ordered the regular blueberry snow with double boba. Wait time took about 5 minutes, and we were handed our boba drinks by the disgruntled employee who couldn't even reply with a quick "you're welcome" when we thanked her. My drink didn't taste powdery or fake or yucky. On the contrary, it tasted quite delicious. It was lighter than other mocha-based boba drinks I've purchased before, but it had a nice almost nutty flavor to it. The tapioca balls were perfectly cooked and the right kind of chewy. My son's drink, on the other hand, did taste powdery and fake and yucky. It was the worst blueberry-flavored anything we've ever drank/eaten. All in all, this place gets a 3-star rating because: 1) It was clean and had a nice dining set-up. 2) My drink was delicious. 3) They had boba! In a small town like Monterey! Yeah, I know, the 3rd one is a stretch, but I didn't want to be too mean.

The 1 star is for the friendly servers. I always appreciate that. BUT, this place is a shit show of a restaurant. The food is lower quality than McDonalds. It's is simply disgusting. I don't care if it's cheap and fast, they should be ashamed. I ordered the $5 chicken salad because it seemed like the safest pick. The description said "boiled, sliced chicken breast" but what I got was chopped chicken parts. None were edible. All had grizzle and fatty parts. And my peanuts were burnt. Simply horrific. I would never go back, ever.

I highly recommend Chopstix . The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Conveniently located across from the Del Monte Center, the have a large following. During peak mealtimes, the restaurant fills up fast and you may to wait for a table. They are open all day. Unlike a lot of restaurants that close at 2PM and reopen at 5PM, Chopstix is open all day. It you like Vietnamese cuisine, you will enjoy their tasty, traditional fare. Their sister Chopstix restaurant Is Seaside is the original and also very successful. Good food, good prices and good locations. What's not to like. Also great for takeout.

This little place deserves a five star. Most of its entrees are below $6. The bbq chicken and beef noodle taste much better than a lot of vietnamese restaurants. The service was decent.

Chopstix is a great choice for a quick, cheap bite and a refreshing Boba (Bubble) Tea beverage. Sandwiches are $3.50 (BBQ Beef, BBQ Chicken, Ham, Pork, Lemongrass Chicken, Bacon and Vegetarian) and most dishes are priced at $5.50 with good portions, so you can stretch those dinner dollars pretty far here. For a mere $20.00, lunch or dinner for two is covered at Chopstix. This is an in-and-out type of place....there are always scores of people in here from open to close everday and only like 9 tables. But the food is brought out quick and many orders are for take-out, so you'll be able to nab a table with relative ease. Don't expect to get doted on. You get a smile and quick service. No extras here but always pleasant. The Oreo Cookies 'N Cream Boba Tea and the White Chocolate Mocha Blast were both wonderful! I had to come back two more times last week to re-visit the cool, creamy chocolatey goodness of that Oreo Cookie Bubble Tea. The White Chocolate Mocha Blast was a close second. The Avocado Boba and the Mint Chocolate Chip Mocha Blast were very enjoyable. The Lemongrass Chicken Noodle bowl ($5.50) was very light and refreshing. Generous chunks of grilled chicken and fresh vegetables (bean sprouts, cucumber and mint) tossed with a vermicelli noodle salad, served with a side of sweet-chili sauce. The Mandarin Chicken Wings were tasty with a nice honey-based glaze with strong notes of garlic, soy sauce and ginger. The Calamari and the Veggie Egg Rolls are always great mealtime accompaniments. Chopstix has been a real boon for cheap eats seekers and Boba Tea lovers. I will be back in soon :-)

Horrible customer service! My boyfriend and I got here and it seriously took us 40 minutes to get our drinks. Complete waste of time. 3 tables that got there after us got served first, after that we canceled our order because we thought it was very unfair.

My all time favorite place to go since I moved to Monterey. I love love love this place! You can't go wrong here for a fulfilling meal under $10, especially in the state of California. I don't usually go into an Asian restaurant, whether it be Chinese, Korean, etc., expecting 5-star service, but Chopstix in Monterey definitely surprised me with their professional, caring staff. Their #1 pho is soul food to me and makes me feel nostalgic. The owner/manager is well organized and the staff is always nice with fast service. Even during their peak times, the longest I ever had to wait was less than 10 minutes. It sure beats waiting 45 mins to an hour in other places in Monterey. They also are very accommodating for big parties and families. Very kid friendly!

This place is absolutely awful! The customer service is ridiculous and when it comes to ordering your food, WOW is all I have to say! I had ordered my boba over the phone and they said it will be done in 15 min. I went to the place and waited 45 min in the restaurant for two bobas, While everyone before and after me got there bobas. So I approached the cashier and she "oh sorry, we can't make it!" What!!! I was extremely upset!!! She gv me a Stupid excuse for not making my drinks, left with no drinks, money back and no sorry!!! Never again!!! Here's a pic of my boba they delivered to me two hours after I ordered my food!!! Yes, I gv them one more chance and NEVER AGAIN!!! My pic of the boba is the nasty picture towards the end!

This place was awesome! I got the lemongrass chicken, meatball summer rolls, and a Stella. Everything was really good. Pretty cheap with the lemongrass chicken running me 6.50 for the large size, 5 for the summer rolls, and 3.75 for the Stella. The meatballs turned out to be what looked like slices of pork salami or something. I picked it out and it was really nice with the peanut sauce. The lemongrass chicken was awesome. Really flavorful and I love vermicelli so it was awesome! Good portion sizes too! I tried the 5 spiced chicken that my friend got. It was really yumms but it was marked as the spiciest item on the menu but it wasn't spicy at all. Awesome all around!

I love finding new restaurants that offer different things other than burgers, tacos, and sandwiches. Chopstix used to be great until they started hiring high school kids to cook and serve. The last time I was there the peanut sauce for the spring rolls tasted like soap! The attitude from these young servers was horrific! No refills until I stood up to try and get one and the quality of the food diminished dramatically within the first year. I never go there anymore I just go to noodle bar in seaside it never disappoints!

Busy but wait time was short. Very affordable prices for food that fills you up. A large menu. This review is starting to sound a lil' choppy...

I was a little skeptical of eating here after seeing the menu- the prices are very low (about $6 per meal). After the meal, I thought to myself "you get what you pay for". On the upside, the service was great. Our server was very pleasant and helpful and that's always a plus. We ordered Pho, Spring Rolls, and Summer Rolls. The food was fresh but the cuts of meat in all of our dishes seemed quite grisly and cheap. All in all the food seemed rather bland and lacked the distinct, refreshing flavors I've come to love in Vietnamese foods. If you're looking for a quick, cheap lunch between errands it's ok and it's a good alternative to Panda Express but if you want a higher quality meal with better ambiance then try Tran's Noodle House in Carmel.

Great food, fast service - what more can you ask for! Oh, how about the best boba in town. Lots of veggie/vegan options. Our "go-to" spot in Monterey!

If I could give Chopstix a HUGE "ZERO", I would do it right NOW! When Chopstix first opened, up on Munras Ave. in Monterey, things were okay. The food was quick, cheap and pretty much, just Vietnamese fast food. As soon as the place got busier, the quality and service, went down fast. And I mean , totally down hill. I used to stop by here, when I was in a hurry and I'd order the vegetarian sandwich and the vegetarian glass noodles with tofu and mixed vegetables, along with the vegetarian spring rolls and the vegetarian egg rolls. The first few times were fine, then the nightmares began! I was served cold, limp, flavorless glass noodles on two occasions. Very COLD, NOT HOT! I told the owner every time I ordered, that the food was cold and tasteless.. He'd only blame me and make dumb excuses and wouldn't take responsibility or apologize. Very unprofessional . Twice, I ordered the vegetarian sandwich, and yes, I know there are jalepenos on the sandwiches, but I didn't know, gobs and handfuls of jalapenos would be sloppily slapped on! It was too much sloppiness and it was horrid. I told him about it and he just didn't care. I also had the vegetarian egg rolls sticking together and they were way too hard and too chewy. They sat too long, when they forgot my order! Also, during those occasions, I have had the young food servers running up with wrong orders and giving me someone else's order, then forgetting my order. They need another floor manager, because it's pandemonium at times. The owner is trying to micromanage and it's just not working. Also, the owner is DELUSIONAL, in DENIAL and FULL OF HIMSELF. He NEVER APOLOGIZES FOR ERRORS OR BAD ORDERS! He tried to insult my intelligence for the stir fry noodles, which had absolutely NO FLAVOR and were totally COLD! He literally tried to "educate" me, on how to order. I know how to order, "DUH!".. That was ridiculous! Really?!..blame me for cold food, and missing orders?! Really?! Really?! He wouldn't remake the order. He literally wanted me to place another order and charge me again, for their bad , cold , flavorless food! All he could do, was blame me, for not telling him, I wanted seasoning!?!?! REALLY!? The menu states what the flavors are, so I'm supposed to tell you, how to cook your dishes!? That's just stupid! The food was supposed to be served hot, not cold, because you left it sitting under the kitchen window and forgot it, so don't blame your customer! It was pure insanity! Look...I work in the culinary industry and when a hack, tries to come up with poor excuses at a cheap restaurant and blame customers, instead of apologizing and keeping a customer happy, it's pretty much just pure laziness, and greed. I wasn't trying to " get a deal" or get a "freebie". I paid and I just wanted them to get it right, but they wouldn't do anything to correct mistakes or wrong orders..just make excuses. I also observed the owner, cross contaminating the food that was coming out of the kitchen window. He'd count filthy dollar bills, then run over to the windows and touch the food , touch the food containers, touch the condiments and shoving it into customer's to-go bags! Really gross. I think quality at this place and cooking are totally subpar. I could also see the cooks in view, running back and forth, handling crap in the kitchen, then frying up food. Nobody is clean. I'm surprised people aren't reporting serious cases of food poisoning more often at this place! Talk about " cross contamination!". I am a certified food protection manager and I know cross contamination when I see it! I think this place has gone down hill and is totally terrible. Sure it's cheap Americanized Vietnamese fast food, but, when the owner stops caring and pretty much DOESN'T CARE, and only wants your money and doesn't try to make improvements on his attitude, the food or service,..then don't expect good ratings ever "Chopstix", because people will stop going to your restaurant and you'll go out of business broke and fast... SO...Stop disrespecting your customers intelligence and start listening to what your customers are saying. I'm NEVER going back! GOOD BYE!

If zero stars were permitted, I would give it zero. I have been to Chopstix a few times in Seaside 2 years ago and I really like the low prices and the tasty food. Once the Monterey location opened up, I was very excited to go since it was closer to where I live. As I use to come in bi-weekly with my friends and co-workers, we all noticed that the food was beginning to go down hill, and the rude people who work there. First of all when you walk into this small place, no one greets you. You pretty much see a bunch of teenagers who I guess are suppose to be the waitresses/waiters. They stand behind the counter and literally turn their backs so they don't have to help you. I have ordered for take out as well as sat in to eat, and every single time I go, I experience the same thing, or worse. Today has been the worst. I justified going back due to the low prices, but after ordering a messy "combination" sandwich (which is not authentic due to poor hiring of cooking chefs in the back kitchen) and a boba drink that was suppose to be a slush (turned out they surprised me with a "tea" (mainly just water and syrup with a BUG in it, I have decided today was the death of my business to Chopstix. I had an order for pick up and the nice kid over the phone said that they do not have strawberry flavor for the boba drinks today. Once I pick up my order, she gave me one rainbow slush and a tea. I didn't order a tea. I ordered a pom slush. But I am not willing to wait (shame on me, wtf was I thinking ordering fr here again, they ALWAYS mess up). Also on the cash register there was list of items they were out for the day. 1. Taro 2. Strawberry 3. Straws. and so on. Shouldn't there be a weekly order of short supplies put in or don't they have a system of ordering? This isn't rocket science, and it def feels like whatever they have is what we can order. If not, then its not their problem. I once told Mikey the owner of a bad experience I had while he was away one Saturday. I didn't expect an apology, but at least the curiosity of the owner asking what happened while he was away from his business. This little ignorant man paid no attention and dismissed my comment. He mentioned he did not like running a business (then why would you run one??). In fact there were two occasions when customers just walked out due to your lack of customer service. If Hells kitchen could come in and tear you another hole, it would be delightful to see. I advise that he sells the business, since this is not his forte or hire a professional manager instead of having these little teenie bopper kids running around with my food that is obviously not handled correctly (due to my surprise bug friend in my drink). Please for the love of god, teach the people in the kitchen how to make a banh mi right. You put vietnamese food to shame. As for your boba, I admit one thing: one slush always tastes the same (thank god, there is one thing you can't mess up on) is the rainbow slush. There are 3 colors of syrup, YAY! and you put the boba jelly in, another YAY! Wait...I even take that back, today you didn't have the strawberry syrup-okay well for most of the time I guess you can consider that they get the rainbow slush right...? So if you are interested in watching a circus, this place would be it. Watch the kids walk around like chickens with their heads cut off and you will def see what I'm talking about. And look at your food carefully, and consider yourself lucky if you don't smell the sewer system right in front of the entrance door. Good luck!

While the food is nothing to rave about, the prices are! Especially when everything in Monterey costs an arm and a leg and the clothes off my back, it's nice to be able to go out for a decent meal at an affordable price. The food is good -not outstanding- and they have a pretty extensive drink selection, with or without boba. If you're a taro fan, I highly recommended the taro snow ice! SO GOOD! The pho is average, but it satisfies the craving well enough. Get their spring rolls as an appetizer, they make for a good pre-pho snack! While Chopstix isn't quite deserving of 4 stars, I recommend them because they've got cheap prices and the only decent boba drink selection around this area. Will definitely be frequenting this place!

The food was decent but the service was by far the worst I have experienced in 2011. SUPER DISAPPOINTING to the point where despite enjoying the food.. it gets a one star from me... which does not happen often. The appetizer chicken popcorn was decent as was the sweet chili sauce The noodle bowls have a good meat portions..if anything they lack a tad more noodles The boba bar, slushy options etc are nice since there are not a lot of pearl drink shops ANYWHERE in the 831... they are scarce and few The chow mein like noodle options (small size) are big enough for two Considering the area, the prices are cheap for the amount of food you get.. this place could be a gem and I know a lot of my yelper friends who have gone here like the food.. BUT... The service First off, it is super inefficient. There are people hanging out doing nothing.. When they could be checking on customers, helping with drinks etc.. 1. Do we sit down or order at the counter? we were not greeted and walking in it was apparent that the wait staff is super disorganized 2. upon sitting someone took our drink order.. then "the real server" came by again and took our order 3. Never in my life have I waited 20 minutes (half way into the meal) for a pinche boba (how are there 7 people behind the counter and only 1 boba person. 4. The wait staff didn't know what they were out of... after waiting 20 minutes for his lemonade... we find out there is no lemonade.. so no other options were provided.. just a "sorry to bad so sad" 5. Where was the water? 25 minutes into our meal, we get water.. really? 6. We were never voluntarily checked on.. we always had to flag down a wait staff/ our "server" 7. We finally went up to the register and grabbed the check... This is the first time all year where we didn't leave a tip... There is no excuse for crappy service considering the ratio of servers to customers they had... Ill give this place a few months and then come back... then again.. if they have been open since July and their service still isn't hashed out.. that is a little scary.

This was my first time in this restaurant and I decided to give it a five stars. First: the service is great and fast. Nice people. Serve with a smile and consistent with the service. Second: the food is great! Delicious! Third: the price is cheap!!! I would definitely go back here again next time I visit the area.

Cheap prices and absolutely delicious food. Spring rolls and the peanut sauce they make is phenomenal! The sweet and sour chicken was great and the mango snow with bobas I ordered was amazing! I wish I had tried this place sooner! A+

A friend and I stopped by today for a quick bite before a meeting and I honestly wished we hadn't. The mango milk boba that I ordered was strangely gritty and had a good inch of frothy bubbles? on the top that were not edible. After watching two large parties that arrived AFTER we were seated get their food, ours finally came out and we began to eat. I ordered the vegetarian glass noodles and as the picture portrays, there should have been some meaningful vegetables on the dish but there was only a ton of cabbage, one shred of carrot, two pieces of zucchini the size of my pinky nail and a couple pieces of onion. The dish was overly salted and hard to keep down. Friendly but slow staff.

Actually a pretty good place given their prices and menu variety. It was three of us tonight and we had green papaya salad, vegetarian egg rolls, beef pho and lemon grass beef, along with two Kirin ichiban beers and it all came to $30. WOW!!! Next time I'll try their Vietnamese sandwiches for under $4. Nothing fancy, but definitely tasty food for a bargain price.

My mom and sister and I had the pleasure of eating at this little gem after coming from a beach wedding. The service was great & the pho was AMAZING !!! I just wish it were closer to me as I live in Southern CA. Definiely will have to visit again when I come back in the future !

The food is standard vietnamese, but not the type of recipes handed down from generations to create a perfect. The boba menu has a wide selection. Most smoothies/drinks are very sweet (strawberry-peach tasted like candy). My recommendation is House Milk Tea, Mango Milk Tea, or Almond Milk Tea. For food, I recommend combination pho or house fried rice. I do not recommend the BBQ wings, egg rolls, or spring rolls. I just feel these can be better in other places considering the cost. My friend likes the lemongrass beef and five spice chicken but prefers Noodle Bar. The meatball with noodles is OK. The price is cheap (only $5.50 or $6.50 for entrees) and $3 boba. The staff is also nice.

I don't get the "bad reviews" on here. The food is legit and incredibly tasty. The server was hilarious and the most friendly guy ever. He made us laugh a ton of times. The spring rolls were great and the dipping sauce was spot on. The pho was to industry standard and the bubble tea and smoothies were awesome. We had the Thai tea and chocolate chip mint smoothie for dessert and it just topped the whole dinner experience off. The pricing is super low so it's a bargain for some pretty authentic tasting Vietnamese food.

Delicious, fresh, the boba tea is really good (lots of choices). More than that, the service was great. They were slammed and it took us just a few minutes to get a table. But, once we did, our waiter gave us (I'm still a rookie) plenty of time and explained everything as if we were the only customers in the place. Prices are great! We will be back.

The food is a solid 5 stars, and I'd eat there any time I'm in the area. We went on a Sat. night and it was very busy and crowded; the wait staff was hard pressed to manage the volume, so the wait for food was pretty long...but worth it. I had the passion fruit boba and it was fantastic, as was the chicken salad. Didn't try anyone else's food, but it all looked and smelled wonderful.

1 star for service - Seems like this establishment is ran and operated by a bunch of immature, part time college kids. Seems like there had been no training prior to them serving the customers. 1.5 stars for food - Not Vietnamese cuisine. Artificial, tasteless, and salty. 2 stars for the boba - Not even sure if they use real tea. I doubt it. Powder mix and water. For real Vietnamese food, go to Taste of Vietnam or Pho King.

I'm just done with this place. I hate reading negative reviews that are based around something very specific to that person, and I try never to write those. But I can't help myself. Chopstix failed my specific issue so gloriously that it HAS to be a sign of a wider problem. (Judging by some of the other negative reviews, it is.) My specific issue is that I can't eat cilantro. I always order dishes without cilantro. Chopstix was holding at about a 30% success rate on giving me cilantro-less food. So I stopped coming here. Today I decided: "Hey it's been a while. I should give them another chance. I'll go pick up lunch from Chopstix." I ordered my food without cilantro, as usual. The guy who took my order clearly wrote "no cilantro" down. Got my food, took it to my car, opened up the bag, sure enough: chock full of cilantro. I took it back inside and let the guy know. He brought it back to the kitchen and asked them to make it again, without cilantro. I think he even pointed to the cilantro to show them what it was. It came back out in a minute or two, and he said: "here you go, no cilantro, sorry about that." Cool. I'm hungry. Gotta go eat this! But no. I opened it up in the car, and it STILL had cilantro. Seriously, how the hell do you make that mistake twice in the span of five minutes? I brought it back again. In a few minutes, they gave me another one. I checked it in the restaurant, no cilantro, finally. It wasn't that hot and there was very little lettuce; I'm fairly sure they just pulled out everything that was dark green, and everything else in there was the same stuff I got initially. Thanks guys. Really seems like you care about your customers. This was not how I wanted to spend my lunch hour. They didn't offer me a discount, a coupon, a free appetizer, anything. I just got a very half-hearted apology. Their food isn't bad, but it's nowhere close to great enough to justify this nonsense.

Pho, bun bo hue, banh mi, goi cuon, bubble tea... They've got it all. At $4-7 an entree, lunch is affordable, especially for the area. Hubby had the bun bo hue ($5.50) but was disappointed to find no pork blood cake despite it being pictured in the menu... Traditional flavors were mostly present though timid. I had the grilled pork & shrimp vermicelli ($5.50) -- fatty swine in the company of a couple shrimp, an unexpectedly saucy and well-seasoned dish. The thing about Viet food is that it traditionally is served by vendors who specialize in one -- and only one -- entree, and come to perfect it. I would have been surprised if Chopstix were able to replicate each dish to such standards. That said, while no minds were blown here, they were quieted by tasty familiarity.

Excellent prices, atmosphere and food. Servings are generous and dishes are reliable. Lots of veggie options, not to mention the Boba tea flavors over 50, and at least 30 beers. closed Tuesdays, boo. I always wanna go on Tuesday! definitely a favorite.

No star !!! I rate this no star but it won't post without one star. Just like kids Little League everybody's a fucking winner, in this case though, they are losing out. We walked in 10 min before closing time & they said they were done serving. That's okay, we won't be back. If they don't care about the customers they sure won't care about their food either. It's sad when a business would rather go home than do what they are supposed to do. It's not really that big of a disappointment because I've heard their food is really not that good anyway. Go there at your own risk.

Can't complain about this place, even tho the service is not super professional and they sometimes take long to make drinks. The price is reasonable and the food taste ok. I go there a lot and never once be disappointed. Friendly servers :) if you go on a busy day then you just have to be a little more patient.

I really wanted to like it. The location is good, inside is cute and the prices are great. I had the beef and broccoli and the shaven beef. Beef was really really bad. Oh well. I can't speak to the drinks or noodle dishes, which I would imagine are their staples.

********************* 1284 ********************** Odd location by itself along the strip of all the motels here, not the best neighborhood, but it's a Vietnamese restaurant, a few rare ones in Monterey. Food is definitely NOT authentic. The wonton soup has broccoli and mushroom, trust me I love veggies, but I wasn't expect that! The BUN BO HUE Vegetarian bowl was surprisingly delicious, generous portion, much cheaper than what I pay in San Jose and San Francisco. Friendly and quick service, clean restaurant, and CHEAP EAT. So if you need a quick fix, this place would come to the rescue! Don't expect authentic food like we have in San Jose, but this is as good as it gets here.

This was my favorite place in Monterey to have lunch or dinner in weekends if I was in a rush and looking for something cheap. The Monterey location is better than the one on Seaside but the service was not that good. They are also kind of slow during rush lunch time.

I dont see why people are so picky ab this place?!!! Hmm - im myself a big pearl tea person... own one shop in bay area myself :p thats how much i like pearl tea. So we stopped by to get milk tea since i cant go longer than 5 days during this vacay. -very decent house milk tea and cantalop ice tea. One tip thou: the pearls alone werent soft enough and sweet inside out, well?!! This is a full menu restaurant HeLLo?!! Give them a break! Im jus happy and appreciative for what they offer -snack, foods, noodle soups, tea: total we got 4 cups of boba tea, 2 bowls of noodles soup, calamari, springroll, for the two of us. We were simply happy. -service is friendly and quick! Bonus ! Yes, give a try if you are not looking for some kinda high end picky dining place

This has to be one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I have ever dined at (and I have dined in the famous Vietnamese restaurants in DC). Plenty of food for a great price. The flavors of the Pho broth was just right and the stir fried egg noodles.... wow! The wait staff were super friendly and the meals came out quickly. I highly recommend this place for those that crave some Vietnamese food or some boba tea. I know, for sure, we will be back.

So as a visitor to Monterey, I cannot comment on the comparison of this location to the Seaside one. Nor have I been to their competitor in town referenced in other reviews I've read here.. But I have had a few gallons of pho in my lifetime (albeit not in one sitting) so I think I know enough. I know it's pronounced like 'fuh' and not 'faux' so that's better than a lot of people, amiright? Moving on. When we found the hotel we were staying at nearby, I saw the sign for Chopstix and immediately dismissed it as some westernized sticky, overly sugary, imitation Asian food joint. No thanks. But after settling in and trying out other places around, I got on Yelp to see what the late night dinner options were and Chopstix popped up. Specifically, pictures of the food popped up. If there are two Asian menu items I cannot resist, they are fresh spring rolls and vegetable pho. So I gave the menu a look and I couldn't believe the prices! $5.50 for a huge serving of pho with all the fixin's?? That's crazy. Traditionally, pho comes with a basic broth of your choice and side items you can mix in at your discretion like sprouts, basil, jalapenos, sriracha, hoisin, and soy sauce. I kept waiting for the opportunity to say to myself, "Ah, I knew it was too good to be true" ..but it never happened. The food was great, the prices were super cheap, and I wished we'd gotten a chance to order from them a second time on our stay. My dad had the Mandarin chicken wings, and he said he was surprised at the high quality flavor for such a low price too. I think the average price for any item on the menu was $5. Hell, I've paid more for edamame! I know a lot of these reviews seem to be splitting hairs about who has the best Vietnamese food in Monterey, but it's really hard to go wrong with food this high-quality AND low priced.

This place was good. I love the spring rolls, egg rolls were really good and hot. I got the BBQ pork with Vermicelli noodles which was very good! The Peanut sauce was warm and yummy. They have a LOT of drink options.. I chose beer though and got a Hoegaarden in a chilled glass which was awesome. Service was good, they paid attention to my movements and asked me if I needed anything which is nice. It is a bit dirty .. Walls had sauce splashed on them which kinda grossed me out but id go back. I love Vietnamese food :)
