Had the squealing pig, it was delicious
First time visitor to this place...correction, last visitor to this place. Didn't leave a glowing first impression. 1) Okay, the menu has variety. But, I must have picked the one item that isn't a signature dish. 2) I totally support the local businesses, I hope this place is here forever, but you gotta treat every customer with the same respect and excellent service. If you learn you made an error, and offer the client another item after you charge them, just eat the difference...it was just odd to be asked to pay 75 cents for your mistake. 3) The music was the highpoint/free WiFi.
I have two words for this place: The best bread in the world. On to the review! So I came here as a lunch stop with a few buds before heading into lovely the Monterey Bay Aquarium. When we drove by the address the first time, we completely missed it! We had to make a U-turn and slowly scan the area for the restaurant. In its defense, the place was getting their sign redone. So be on the lookout for this lovely place. The inside of the place is pretty small, an ordering area and a few tables on the side, but there is extra seating outside. I ordered a bacon ranch chicken sandwich and it took forever to get to me. Upon speaking with the cashier it turns out that there was some other guy named David that took my order. I wanted to try some horchata but they were fresh out. I also ordered some water but never got any. Now at this point you might be thinking, boy this place sucks! Why would you give it 4 stars?!? Seven words: The bread. The bread was AMAZING! The best bread I've ever had. It was the perfect amount of crunch and a delectable soft texture inside. Boy oh boy, I still have dreams about the bread. The fillings were also pretty well made. If you're ever near Monterey you must give this place a shot.

A friend of ours recommended Bistro Moulin, so a group of us ended up trying it after an afternoon at the aquarium and some wine tasting. This restaurant is conveniently located by the aquarium, but slightly off the beaten path of Cannery Row. When you walk in, it's like walking into a quaint local restaurant in Paris. It was very cute, and the hostess and wait staff were very welcoming. The aoili they started us off with was very tasty. The warm basket of bread was even better. The escargot was described as good, and the sauce was great to dip your warm bread into - garlicy with butter and herbs. My husband's mussel dish was generous in portion size, and the fries it came with were perfectly tasty and crunchy. My chicken and mushroom crepe dish was very tasty and I would order it again. We ended the night with their pumpkin tart and meyer lemon tart - both were fantastic. For what we got, especially in a touristy area, I thought that their prices were decent as well (we paid about $50 for two of us).
The gnocchi...that is the only reason you need to visit here. It was so good we contemplated getting the smaller appetizer portion for dessert instead if an actual sweet (we ended up trying the chocolate mousse and was not disappointed). This was a great dinner in Monterey. The coq au vin is tender and mouthwatering. The service was quick and excellent. Definitely a must stop when in Monterey. Did I mention the gnocchi??....
I love this place. It is small and cozy and does not feel at all like it is near one of the more touristy spots in Monterey. I have been there twice and both times the food was delicious. We got the last order of gnocchi appetizer and it was like heaven on a spoon. I ordered the duck confit and it was fall off the bone yummy. My boyfriend ordered the duck breast special with fois gras and it too was like butter. None of this food was healthy but boy is it good! We finished off our meal with fresh berries which, even though they were not in season, were also very delicious and a great way to end the night. The ONLY thing I would complain about is that they are not open until 5 pm. We went by for a late lunch and were really sad. BUT, we waited it out because they are that good!
