Lot of people will write about their food and it's great!! I want to write about the honesty of the staff here. My wife left her bag here and we found it back 3 days later intact. It had a bunch of valuable stuff including a lot of cash. Really appreciate the service and staff here..

One of my favourite South Indian restaurants in the Bay Area - I'm usually here once a week for lunch. With a wide variety of appetizers, dosas and thalis, there's always something I haven't tried in a while. Most of the time, service is good, and on the rare occasions that I don't feel service is up to par, I let the folks at the front desk know, and they always seem to take corrective action. I've never had a situation yet where I felt the food wasn't awesome.

I visited Tirupathi Bhimas for dinner along with my husband sometime recently and did not have a great experience for the expectation we had. Their food was definitely below average. According to their website, they say that "Tirupathi Bhimas stands out for Pure vegetarian cooked FRESH every day from the finest ingredients Tasty and yet Nutritious." Both my husband and self felt that the food was NOT FRESH AT ALL. We were disappointed and so were wondering how still this place manages to grab the attention of crowd, even their ambience was way too normal. The 2 stars are actually given for the staff who served us & the cleaner who promptly cleaned the table. They were attentive. There are many Other Good Indian - Andhra type Cuisine Restaurants in the Bay area where we've got the benefit of experiencing Best Quality Food, Affordable Pricing & Good Ambience. One should always get complete satisfaction for the money he/she pays. Not interested to visit again unless I strongly hear from the people about restaurant's food quality improvement.

Love this place! Sometimes they may be in a rush but I keep coming back for the food, the manager is a great guy too. Idli Sambar and Mysore Masala Dosa are my fav along with Mini tiffin. Prices have been on the rise, but still affordable compared to other places!

The only reason I gave this place a three star was because of the food. I honestly really enjoyed it but their service was terrible! They forgot orders, we felt rushed as they gave us our bill even before one of our orders came in. Staff seemed nice but but their work ethic wasn't all that... Very forgetful. He even told us he forgot to write a part of our order down... Umm... Ok....? They also brought my dosa out first and then the appetizer and the last dosa took forever! I didn't want to eat my dosa first, but I had to start because it would get cold then. Place has lots of seating but it's not really decorated or very well organized. Food was probably the best part of my experience here. It wasn't the best food I have had but it was not the worst either. We ordered: Baby corn fritters: I am not a fan of baby corn but I was told the dish is good so I have it shot and I am so glad I wasn't disappointed. Dish was sweet but spicy and the fritters was crispy 5/5 Butter milk: really good! Right amount of flavor 5/5 Plain dosa with sambar and chutneys: my dosa was very Luke warm and soft so was the other dosa we ordered. Dosas were not too crispy but taste wise they were okay. Dosas were a good size as well. 3.5/5 I may not be returning. There are better spots in fremont

I have been here a couple of times now, either for lunches when I was working in South Bay or for dinner. Some of the dishes are excellent but others are less than ok. I really like the idiyappam (string hoppers). It goes well with coconut milk and vegetable gravy. Bisibele bath and Veg biriyani is also good. Masala in the masala dosa really lacks flavor. We ordered Gobi Manchurian last time and I really regretted ordering it. It has this weird taste and I was just hoping not to fall sick. The place is really noisy. And the waiters can be a bit more organized. This place looks more like a mess/canteen you see in Tamil Nadu rather than a restaurant.

  • Kalp M.

Food is great when its hot. Food variety is great but quality has been inconsistent - sometimes really good and sometimes not as great. I would visit often because what you get served is fresh.

I have not had much exposure to Indian food, like almost zilch. But I came here with some coworkers after work and they showed me some legit South Indian food (it had to have been authentic because I couldn't read anything on the menu). I had the marsala dosa and it was much more filling than I thought it would've been, especially since it was a vegetarian dish. Turns out that little dosa was carb-filled and then filled with marsala. The dosa and the sides it came with had a little bit of a kick, just enough since I'm not the biggest fan of spicy (mostly because my taste buds are wimps). Nicely balanced out with the coconut-based sauce/soup it came with. But it was definitely a new experience and I enjoyed trying something new. I've been to a couple of Indian restaurants before with my coworkers, but I think that this is the first time I felt like I was really at an authentic place. It was the sort of hole-in-the-wall that didn't have pretenses and didn't have to prove anything to someone accustomed to a Western diet. And I really liked that. This place had fluorescent lights, kind of junky tables and chairs, and not so much decor, like the owners didn't care enough to try because all they're interested in is serving good, authentic Indian cuisine. And that is more than fine with me. BOTTOM LINE: Cheap, great place. I think I would've liked some meat with my dish to tie it all together (apologies if that's not how you eat dosa, I'm new), but regardless I'd come back.

This is a good stop for some Andhra style vegetarian food. Their business lunch is value for money with three varieties of rice with papad. The spicy thali is good too We have also tried a bunch of other snacks here: cut mirchi, pakoras. They were good, nothing exceptional. The masala dosa here is good, but too thin for my liking. Would love it if they made masala dosas that are not paper thin. The place is not a very fancy one. They are not exorbitantly priced either. The service is quite good, they do not take too much time to bring the food even in peak hours. It can get a tad bit noisy, given the tables are placed very close to each other. I will certainly go back to this place for the snacks.

We saw a small insect/cockroach in their briyani which came with their North Indian thali few days back..On telling the server ,response was "Sorry sir" and didn't care to take the plate away..it was there in our table until we paid the cheque..useless place ..you can see pictures in the photo section.

  • Harry C.

I have been to this restaurant only once as its very near to where I live. I ordered the North Indian Thali to go. It was ok, not the taste I am used to but it was ok when you are really hungry. The Thali came with white rice, papad, dal, one eggplant curry, one paneer curry, one masala rice, and one desert (sewai). Everything was just ok, not too good or bad. There were 3 paranthas which were good with curry or dal. I might go again to eat something different. The take out was very nice, the guys at cashier were courteous but they should put some more good looking staff there just to wait and look at them

    (3)
  • Jay N.

As mentioned before, traditional vegetarian south Indian food. Suggest bringing along a traditional south Indian if you have trouble telling a thali from a "meal". Great Dosas, the paneer dosa is a staple favorite of mine. The cleanliness as mentioned previously is not one that other restaurants should aspire to. That being said the ambience is crafted to remind a South Indian of home.

  • Singaravelan V.

Tried the Cut mirchi and Sambar vada for appetizers. These were pretty good. Two people got the Veg Thaali which was pretty bad and most items on the thaali tasted like it was made out of instant mixes. The Poori was good but the Chettinad Kothu parota had some weird masala taste in it. Definitely not authentic south indian. Try some other place.

  • Dhriti Manoj H.

We love this place. We go there regularly. Atleast once every two weeks. We generally have there mini tiffin which at great value u can get vada, idly, sambhar, chatnees, dosa, pongal, sweet, and tea or coffee or mango lassi - everything is just too yummy. A special shout for their padi powder .. It is just too amazing. I m in love with this place. Last time we ordered mini idly with padi and rava masala dosa and we werent dissapointed. Once in so many times we had gone there and were dissaponited as the sambhar was cold and no padi powder even on asking for it. But i would say that was one bad experience out of so many visits!! Totally recommend if u crave for south indian food.

No proper cleanliness. Place looks little weird. Food is Awesome. Its bit Traditional Vegetarian food.

    (3)
  • Aditya B.

Food was ok. Baby corn fritters was good though a tad too spicy. Mini tiffin and veg uttapam were again ok. Wish the presentation was lot better.

  • Visharad C.

The quality keeps going down... Extremely disappointing place to eat...ordered Schezwan fried rice, mysore dosa and puri bhaji and none of the things were edible. Fried rice had no spices, it was plain rice with some chilli flakes. It had no salt and no spices. Dosa was uncooked and as thick as a uttapam, the bottom part of the dosa was stucked to the plate and was soggy. Puri bhaji - potatoes were completely mashed and there was no salt in the bhaji. We had to return all the food back and were still asked to pay. We wasted the money and never ever coming back here. We called the manager and he said Cook is new and so food is getting messed up...as if this is something as I customer I need to worry about.

    (1)
  • Hemanth M.

The quality of food is the worst I ever had experienced in the bay area. Except for Dosas everything we ordered seemed stale. The chapatis that came with Veg Thali were hard and inedible since they were from hours ago. We requested to replace them and they gave us freshly made half cooked phulkas which were not edible too. Oil was visibly dripping from the Papad and we could see a small pool of oil on it (pictures attached) The ambience is similar to a typical south Indian canteen with so much noise. Also they just drop the check on your table without bothering to ask if you are done. You are supposed to take the check and pay at the counter.

    (1)
  • Sandhya G.

Got to try the place out during a busy weekend. Did not live up to our expectations. Ordered South Indian thali. Chapathis served with it were highly inedible. I tried to having it with various curries, but the dough just wasn't right and the chapathi was hard and tasteless. Curries were okay, nothing great about any of them. Not sure I'd wanna come back.

  • Jennifer Q.

Great food BUT please be prepared to have one payment of Ina a group and wait for your food. We had several people in our group without food for 15+ minutes and then time to pay they will not take more then two credit cards. They wouldn't even accept my cash and cards at the same time. Great great food. Best food but have cash and know you will wait for service.

    (1)
  • Valli V.

Typical South Indian canteen.... Incase you ever feel like experiencing authentic feel, food and "decor" of South Indian (chennai) this is the place to go. The waiters entertain us with their gloomy faces, tight shirts accentuating their plump bellies, unorganized order taking and loud noises from the kitchen. Food was average. Decor was below average. Price was also average.

    (2)
  • Priyanka S.

I am so happy I came here ignoring the yelp 3 stars. Apprehensive to try, I had one of the best Andhra style spicy thali.. Spices that you can handle and feel good about it unlike anjappar. I would give 8 on 10 for the thali as the sweet dish had too much colour and the rice were too big to my taste. Loved the rasam, sambhar and veggie curries. Rawa dosa was thin crisp with masala on side made us appreciate it a lot. Finally a South Indian outpost in neck of my woods that would save me a trip from madness at madras cafe...

    (5)
  • Raju S.

This place has been going downhill in every thing. There used to be a time when the food was so good you'd put up with the service. This place used to be famous for rava dosa, Kara kozhambu and a few other items. Now the food is nothing special, not that good it's ok. I'm giving 1 star because the service is really really bad. There are like 3 waiters serving like 20 tables and you can't get their attention. They take half your order and walk away before you're done talking, and then avoid eye contact with you. So you literally have to yell if you want anything. Want some extra water or salt, forget about it. Not happening. This place has the worst service. Maybe they should switch to a self-serve cafe style operation, if they can't afford waiting staff. Like spice hut.

    (1)
  • Ananth C.

Environment service was good. Taste wasn't great, not bad at the same time. Ask for the Ghee & Podi if you are having any Thali.

  • Maya A.

I feel this place is hidden gem for South Indian food. They have a great selection of food, even some indo-Chinese items. I have been here many times and the food is great, consistent and not as expensive as other similar restaurants. Some of the food can be spicy though. Try the bhimas special dosa! The dahi vada is delicious. Their chappati is also very soft.

    (4)
  • Soundarya R.

Please be cautious of what you order. Some items are good and some are extremely bad. Safe to try Dosa/idly/rice items. Especially sweets are mostly stale. The worst part of everything is that the waiters and even the owners are not even willing to give an ear to the feedback or complaints of the customers.

    (2)
  • Mohan G.

This is a typical south indian restaurant. You have a bug menu to choose from. Their sambar vada, fried idli and Andhra punugulu are really good. Most of their Dosa menu is also good. Uttappams are really good as well. Their indo-chinese menu is not so fantastic comparatively. Overall, the service is okay but food is good.

  • Foxy Star M.

Onion Rava Masala Dosa. Memorize that. Sooooo gooood. I challenge you to find better. All the textures and tastes come together in perfect unique harmony. This is what eating is all about. I love you, Tirupathi Bhimas chefs.

  • Rinky K.

Ok food. We ordered Spicy Thali and a North Indian thali. With the name spicy I presumed that thali would be spicy. But I was disappointed ! North Indian thali was ok too. The biryani they gave in north Indian thali was the left over I guess, coz it was over cooked. Paneer sabzi wasn't that great .. It had over fried paneer. The only best part was the jaggery dessert. One time visit!

    (2)
  • Kira N.

we ordered spicy thali, kottu parata, ghee pongal, schezuan fried rice nothing tasted good and 2 stars is all they can get for their food.

  • Siva P.

I would visit this place again and again, even if there is another place beating this type of food. This place is always busy but still food is served fast and always fresh. Authentic south indian veg restaurant caters almost all south indian veg food. I like the mini tiffin, which comes with idli, vada, dosa and a desert. Mini tiffin is very filling like lunch itself.

We were the only gringos, which tells you something (well, my wife is technically not a gringo, but she's not Indian). It's a South Indian vegetarian joint, kinda like Saravana Bhavan. We got a Spicy Thali & a Chettinad Kothu Parotta. For the uninitiated, a thali is a set meal--usually about ten little silver dishes, each filled with a unique offering, surrounding a dish of rice and some bread. As is the case with most South Indian thalis, this was vegetarian. ***SPICY THALI - Sambhar, Rasam, Porial, Hot Curry, Kootu, Kara Kozhambu, Kurma, Papad, Yogurt, Powder, Pickles, Chapathi, Rice, Dessert Let's break it down: - Sambhar - A vegetable chowder based on a broth made with tamarind. A mild and savory favorite. - Rasam - A soup, also made with tamarind as a base, but thinner than the sambar. Usually contains soft chunks of melt-in-your-mouth turnips. - Porial - Sautéed vegetable dish made by shallow frying shredded or diced vegetables along with spices. In this case it was diced beets, which made it our first time having beets in an Indian dish. Very simple and refreshing. - Hot curry - I was expecting a gravy of sorts, but this was more a sautéed mix of mashed veggies (carrot, potato, eggplant, etc.). I'm told that this naming convention is unique to the South, but they call spice-based gravies curry too, so who knows. - Kootu - Vegetable added to lentils, slightly less aqueous than sambhar. Simple and yummy, and an essential component to the meal. - Kara Kozhambu - A spicy gravy prepared by cooking vegetables in tamarind extract, spiked with a special blend of spice powder. This was quite potently tangy (with a kick), and almost syrupy sweet, but nice. - Kurma - Standard vegetarian Korma, with mixed vegetables cooked in a coconut based gravy. - Papad - You know, that crispy & savory baked wafer that's often served as an appetizer. - Yogurt - Plain white yogurt, as is usual in a thali (as opposed to raita, which comes with biryani and other dishes) - Powder & Pickles - This is the condiment tray that comes with your table. People mix the powder, which to me tastes like powdered salt with a little pepper, in with the rice. The pickles (heavily concentrated relishes based on the essence of lime or other flavors) are always so intense that just a tiny bit goes a long way. - Chapathi - Thin South Indian flatbread made from whole wheat. The chapathi here was dry, stale, & disappointing. - Rice - The seed of the monocot plant Oryza sativa, the staple food for a large part of the world's human population. :p - Dessert - This is usually a pudding of sorts. In our case, it was Pineapple Semiya, which is a semolina-based pudding with ghee and pineapple with soft cashews cooked into it. Sweet and light. ***CHETTINAD KOTHU PAROTTA This is essentially Tamil paratha (practically identical to Singaporean roti prata or Malaysian roti cenai), chopped up into little pieces and stir-fried with some egg, onion, cilantro, and green chili. It was kinda fun, but probably not something that I'd order again. The torn pieces of paratha themselves didn't measure up to what I would expect from Tamil Nadu paratha, and even if they had, it's just not possible to beat a fresh paratha dipped in gravy. ALL IN ALL: This food was not bad--it tasted extremely authentic, but more like something you'd find in someone's home--not something you'd find people waiting in long lines for.

  • Ram S.

Went there twice. Their spicy thali is really good and tasty, typical Andhra type food. Also liked their buttermilk drink. The potato gravy, their variety of pickles and the dal powder with ghee were the highlights. Wish their papad came on time with the rest of the meal. Docked a star for the small quantities of food stuff in the meal (e.g. Half filled yogurt and rasam). Also missing is a chapati or poori in the meal. Will return again. The food is good to overcome these limitations I mentioned earlier.

  • Kamesh G.

Had lunch here for the first time. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. However, why I am giving 2 stars is because the waiter was very rude asking a colleague and me to move out because there are others waiting. When we immediately obliged, we noticed that there were only about 5 or 6 people waiting and when I looked around there atleast 1/2 dozen tables open. It was too bad that we were interrupted in between an important conversation when there was no need to do so. Please dont go here if you have an important conversation to hold with someone.

  • Kishore R.

The non spicy Thali has been tasty and consistent for last 3 years.

  • Chin C.

I would rate this place averagely in terms of food and cleanliness... this was the only typical indian restaurant which had nice washrooms...the service was also ok... only advice i would have for the servers there is they shouldn't stand right at the payment counter making a group...I felt it to be a little unwelcoming for the guests...I thought that some kind of argument is going on between customer and the guy at the counter but then when I paid attention I came to realize that they are just standing and having fun...

Worst food ever. Stale smelly tasteless crappy food. Rather go hungry than have to eat here ever again.

    (1)
  • Adwaith G.

I ordered Wada, followed by masala Dosa and finally uttapam. Yes, I was damn hungry! Starting with wada, it was hot, fresh and made me crave for it more I ate it. Masala dosa is my favorite South Indian dish and it lived to its expectations. However, Madras masala dosa would be a better choice for those who do not like kinda almost raw taste of potato. I liked Masala Dosa as it is. Finally, I ordered Uttapam with mushroom, peas and onion toppings. Yet again, it had the right flavor. Most important thing in South Indian dishes is Sambhar and coconut chutney. I am very happy with Sambhar. It was sumptuous and did not burn my tongue. Chutney was a little on the mild side in terms of taste and leaves scope for improvement.

If you like the south Indian food, this is one of the good places. Basic service, acceptable ambience, decent food make the restaurant mediocre. Food makes the experience a tad bit better.

The mini-tiffin combo is the best thing around! Love it!

Food not that good any more. Also last time I went there I found a steel wire (the one used to wrap bread packets) in my food ! Please be very careful.

We ordered mixed veggies utthapam it was good. However rava masala dosa was average. When it arrived it was cold. Filter coffee was good.

The dosas were okay, the Chinese was decent. Recommend the paneer chilly. We had to return our cheese Dosa to put in, well, more cheese. Pretty okay but there are better places around.

Worst ever wait... Waiters are so pathetic... Took 15 mins to get a seat.... 15 mins for a waiter to take order for one person!! I never write review... U guys gave me so much time as to put this review out here :) waiting for food.... Meanwhile a person in the opposite table went and got a glass of water for himself now!! Still waiting... Got a thali without papad and chapathi in 12 mins... Waiting.... 5 mins.. Waiter says no chapathi and papad he can get additional rice and sambar instead... Said fine.. This time immediately he got rice but kuruma along with it... Oofff....

This was an alright restaurant. There isn't much extraordinary. Service was alright. I had the Mini Tiffin. Not bad, but rather spicy. Also, there were tons of flies around lunch! It was annoying to have to keep shooing flies away from the food.

    (3)
  • Rama A.

Very standard and good Vegetarian South Indian food.

    (4)
  • Sugi V.

Had food poison and sambar is crazy spicy which you will realize next day. You know what I am talking about. Red chili powder is not good to make food spicy. I am not going anymore. Be aware if you eat less spicy and regular healthy food. I regret a lot today for eating my dinner yesterday. Total shit.

  • Abhinav Venakteswar V.

I would give a 3.5 to be specific and not a 4. This resturant is right opposite to my place I live for now. Tasted most of their dishes. Crowd handling is fine but servicing or ordering is not that great(when in demand). Takes a lot of time to place an order and get food. All dosa varieties, pongal, kichadi are all great. But few items like Bisibelabath, chilli parotta are not that great. In general, overall quality of food is good and the food is also tasty.

Came here on Sunday evening for dinner after a movie. Service - slow and not sincere; the wait staff didn't speak English so it was difficult to ask questions about the menu or communicate in general. Food-mediocre and tasteless (no spices) Sweet corn soup - they had no chilli oil, saracha sauce or anything except black pepper to add spiciness to the soup. Plain dosa - OK, nothing special. Sambar tastes flat nor was it warm. Never coming here again.

    (1)
  • Shankar Narayan B.

Good South Indian food - and if you want to add more spice to the food - have the spicy thali " worth it"

  • Anindita D.

Found this place great for south indian food, especially dosas. Not oily at all, which is what I loved about them. Pure veg, extremely reasonable and tasty.

  • Honest O.

Once upon a time it was a fav place; but no more. If you go alone, they won't even look at you. They will give table for 2 to people who are after you, but not you. They think it is a crime to go alone when they are busy. They won't give you silverware, no water. Nothing. Treat you really badly since you came alone during there busy time. BTW, during busy time there is no difference in sambar and water; (really watery sambar, no taste, nothing)

  • Isha B.

Good for south indian food- especially their sambhar. Onion chilli uttapam is my favorite. I live close by, order over phone and pick up- very convenient. Quick service and nice people and always place to sit - no waiting. But north indian and chinese food is terrible - dont even bother trying. Their manchurian was extremely spicy and it didnt even look or tasted like manchurian. But yet would definitely suggest it for south indian food!

Ate the Madras Masala Dosa. Beware, it's delicious but also extremely spicy. Even though my stomach hurt due to the spices, I could not stop eating it.

I used to go here 2 or 3 times a week. Although I liked the vegetarian food, hygiene was always a concern in the back of my mind. And then day one of my colleagues found a giant COCKROACH in the thali! The hygiene standards are just not acceptable. If they pay attention to cleanliness, food itself might be quite ok.

    (1)
  • Naveen S.

Gobi manchurian was too spicy. I didn't feel the essence of butter in butter masala dosa. Potato curry was runny in poori bhaji. In summary, never going back to this place and I RECOMMEND DONT GO TO THIS PLACE WHOEVER READING THIS REVIEW. There are lot of much better restaurants in bay area. DONT waste your hard earned money.

Excellent, delicious authentic south Indian food. Order the spicy thali only if you can handle the spice. Really surprised by the low ratings.

  • Rahul S.

Food was nothing special. The sambar did not taste good at all. I ordered a sambar vada and masala dosa and wasn't impressed. There was barely any spacing between the tables and acoustics were terrible. I would not recommend coming here. There are many other south Indian restaurants that provide higher quality food.

This review is specifically for catering. We had approached tirupathi bhimas with a catering order for an event. I was reaching out to the manager to get the quote and place the order. I was surprised because the manager did not seem to be taking this seriously. He would get the menu details when he's driving and would tell me he can remember what I told him. After a couple of calls the manager gave us the quote. We mutually agreed on the price. I thought it was all finalized and then he said he will call back. But he never did. I just waited for his call that never came. I don't run a business nor am I a manager of a restaurant. But I would think the courteous and professional thing to do would be to communicate. If for some reason you are not able to take this order please let the customer know. I am surprised these people have customers who cater with them. As I changed restaurants at the last minute I waited for the apology call that never came. If I have some big event where I am looking for Indian or south Indian caterers I would definitely AVOID Tirupathi Bhimas. There are plenty of awesome choices in bay area. Why choose someone who will bail out on you. Think twice.

If you want to have a meal with banging dishes as background noise- this is the place. The noise of steel dishes being thrown is too much that you cannot even have a decent conversation. Bad service. There are better South Indian places around this area.

Excellent choice and quality maintained consistently after all these years. Busy on a late weekday night proves the point easily. Kids loved the Paneer Dosa. Rava Dosa was slightly too crispy but still good. Andhra Kara Uttapam was too spicy for our taste. Overall good food and fast service gets the 4 Stars

They are an alright place, tend to eat here once in a few months. The South Indian stuff is very home like but a few notches down in taste.

We went on new years because not many restaurants were open and the food was horrible. Batura was almost uncooked. The kurma for set dosa was too heavy on masala and wasn't great either. Curd rice was fridge cold and too ordinary , it had clumps of rice in it. The potato masala in the butter masala dosa was not tasty at all. They accept only 1 credit card so we couldn't spilt the bill. Its not worth going here under any circumstances. Just a waste of money.

When you're craving South Indian food, and youre stuck in Milpitas, theres no place liek Bhimas. Soft, idlis, mouth wateringly good uttapas, and dosas. And for lunch, a killer thali. Why 3? Well coz there are better joints in Sunnyvale (Madras Cafe springs to mind).

As a newbie to South Indian food, we came here on the advise of n Indian friend. We had the not spicy thali which was still a little hot. It was really tasty and earthy and managed to satisfy a meat lover like myself. The dosa was also good but I just did not think if was really interesting. We were a crowded group but the service was quick and they even returned us the money saying the tip was also included. Pretty impressed.

Worth going to if you like southern Indian food. I always go there when we are visiting Great Mall. It's only couple of miles from the mall.

I liked the business lunch. There is a bisibelabath, curd rice, applam, chapathi kurma, a kind of biryani. The biryani was very average but the bisi was very good, The curd was a little on the sour side but I enjoy that too. I am not sure if that would be everybody's cup of tea. I will be back for sure.I especially wanted to try the spicy thali..

Decent. Ordered takeout and didn't get a fork/spoon/spork :( Not fun when staying in a hotel. Nan bread is expensive and not that good. if you stay in the restaurant to eat you will feel like you're at an Indian wedding. It was very lively inside and looked like everyone knew each other. Food takes a long time to come and the portions are not great, but then I would have probably had an even bigger stomach ache had I eaten more. Enjoy. Lots of veggie offerings.

Hungover? Head weighs a ton. Every noise is amplified by a 100. Constant rininging in the ears. Mouth dry as the desert. Digestive tract feels out of whack. Yeah, we've all been there. Aside from maybe getting another drink in a vain attempt to even things out, how about going out and getting some yummy vegetarian food. Food is the remedy of what ails you and if you managed to drink yourself into oblivion, you're gonna need some nourishment and not to mention a way to soak up the rest of that alcohol. Now Indian food maybe the last thing on your mind, but if swilling a bowlful of boiled cow intestine is your thing or maybe sucking on an uncooked egg. Well hey, be my guest. I think of myself as a novice despite eating Indian food throughout the years. There's the whole north and south and veg and non veg thing. Lunch buffets are sort of a staple. Chaat and sweets are the next adventure. That said, I find myself diving into depths unkown and that's how I came to Tirupathi Bhimas. The Indian breakfast of dosas are a standout. If you enjoy crepes, you'll enjoy this rolled up welcome mat of griddled rice and lentil flower, filled with not your grandma's mashed potatoes and spices. Accompanied with dal and sambar, it is a comforting and savory treat. Also comforting are the thalis. Again, I'm just a novice, but I know there's rice, curry, pampadams and chapathi. Its especially good when your in a comfort food type of mood and don't want the guilty concsious of eating too much farm animal and artery clogging rich and creamy dairy products. Baren decor save for a couple of video monitors to remind you of the Indian dominance of high tech talent in Silicon Valley. I rather do enjoy the metal eating implements. If you're crafty, you can take a picture inside and Facebook it to your friends about your recent trip to India.

I do not know where to start. We were at Bhimas yesterday for lunch. We ordered a Chana Bhatura, an Andhra Kara Dosa, Paratha with Vegetable Khorma, spiced butter milk and Gulab Jamun. The chana bhatura was good, my son loved it. I tried the Kara Dosa. It was a bomb. I usually like spicy food but this one was a step above that, but I enjoyed it. The kara chutney in the dosa was awesome. The paratha and khorma was simply superb. Could not finish it all and had to pack it. If you have never tried the spiced south indian butter milk, you must try it. It was spiced just right. If were to be extremely critical, I would say that the Gulab Jamun could have been larger in size and better in taste. Overall it was a nice experience and I will be back for more. The service was attentive.

Love their Thali!! We love the North Indian and the Non Spicy Thalis! Their pickles are awesome too! We ordered some mango thokku pickle to take home and we love it! Their other dishes are yummy too but the ones mentioned above are the reasons we go there and come back with stuffed tummies and a blissful expression on our faces! Overall - Friendly staff are quick, awesome veg food and reasonably priced! As a bonus you get to listen to tamil songs! :)

This is a pretty good South Indian restaurant, better than most. I have eaten there a few times now and will be back. Mini Tiffin is good. Some of the side vegetable dishes are good. They should vent the cooking smoke to the outside though.

I wanted to try this place out for a very long time, but never really had the chance. My parents felt like eating south indian food, so I suggested this place. It was really nice nothing upscale or anything, but def felt comfortable. I always like restaurants with open kitchens, so that was a plus. The food was good, expect for the andra dosa, I don't know if I spelled it right, but it was just too spicy for me. Other then that everything was good.

I've been stuffing my face with Indian food for the past month and I'd have to say this place was hands down the best. Had the mixed vegetable uttapam, which was really big and dayyum good. Sauces were super yummy too. Also tried the mango lassi drink and loooved it. Nice and creamy and all that mango goodness. Def delicious and good.

I think the City Cleanliness and Hygiene Dept didn't do a great job inspecting this place. The last time I was there, I actually saw a small lil roach roaming around....actin like he owned the place....well.... this aint no Ratatouille where the rat can cook.... ewwwww!!!!! frankly, even that grossed me out......SERIOUSLYYYYY!!!! me not goin there again......naa-uhhhh!!!!!! moreoever.... the guy who took our order messed up our order....and in the end when i ordered coffee he acted weird....i think he was spaced out :-P anyway....... even though i had just had Idli and sambhar....i still ended up with a bad stomach........ so yeah, there's plenty-a-south indian-eateries..... you can go to before you somehow end up here...in the South Bay.... so do your tummy a favor....and DO NOT EAT HERE.........

I don't even want to try and describe each of the dishes included in a thali plate here. They are plentiful and it's a task to destroy the whole plate before it starts bubbling back up your esophagus. But even as this sounds disconcerting, every swallow is bold and delicious. So many tiny metal bowls of tasty tasty morsels. All of the Thali plates - Spicy, Non-Spicy, North Indian - are winners. The dosas are also excellent. My preference is either the Spicy Thali or the Rava Masala Dosa. Those are my mainstays, but lately I've just been hitting the Spicy Thali pretty hard. Tirupathi Bhimas, known as "That dosa place" to my coworkers and myself, has made it onto our weekly lunch rotation. At first this place eluded us, because we would always try coming here on a Monday. Apparently we're eating a lot of bland food on the weekends and need to spice our palettes up when the work week hits. At least that's my theory. As some others have described, the inside of this place is nothing to rave about. On cold days it's like a steam room. The ventilation is poor and the windows literally fog up. Some visits I've thought about writing on the windows. Something like "Thali Overload!" would be fitting. There are also a few TVs on, but they are totally just for spam purposes. It's like rolling advertisement that tries to disguise itself as trivia and games. I mean come on...a question like,"What is the chemical formula of water?" This is targeted for adults? Service is good enough to get by. It's not going to wow you, but it will get the job done. Food comes promptly, which is a big plus for a work lunch. If you're experienced with South Indian food, you'll be fine here. If you don't know the terminology I've used above, Thali, Dosa, Sambar, etc., you'd be best to warm up to this place. That's right, eating here may require some training. But practice makes perfect!

Oh, sorry; what happened? Went on Mother's day evening since whole day we spent in SFO and wanted to cool down (only day to trick kids to come to South Indian place), all the authentic taste of sambar was gone. My daughter asked me that hardly any non-Indian comes to this restaurant then why do they make stuff as per non-Indian's taste? Really want to know places to find authentic sambar taste. Please advise. My old review, but now valid now: The only place I know till now has good sambars and chutneys. Surprised that quality is still maintained, surely a fan. If you know any other place with good sambars and chutneys here in the Bay Area; please let me know. Tried so many places: Dasprakash, Ammas, Swagat and the quality is real down; sambars and chutneys are totally flavourless; that is why we keep on going back to Tirupathi Bhimas.

I live next door to this place in Milpitas and I have been meaning to review this for a long time now. Very good authentic South Indian food, however I a big fan of Chola Bhatura here. Prices are decent and is very popular among students as well as large families. I do find the owner lacking alittle bit in PR, I have seen him shouting @ his employess in front of packed house. Other wise a good place to eat some south Indian food.

Good Food doesn't compensate for careless attitude towards customers nor a childish "I don't know/care " smile when reported .We were not served our chapatis which was a part of our thali that we ordered. We kept waiting till eternity and finally decided to eat whatever was served .Minus 2 chapatis and a few items we ordered is not the end of the world for us but it shows your work ethics which sucks . Need to Step up with better service if they really care about their business in the long run . Food 3.5/5 Customer Service :1/5

Good South Indian and Indo chinese food.. We take out from here often and every other time they miss on one item or the other in the take out ! thats the reason behind the two stars.. Their food is consistently good... so is their way of messing up our take out orders each time ! Guess this has happened about four to five times now.... and last night they missed an entire entree after making us wait for about 40 minutes !! Funny thing is they never forget to bill every item... Great for Chilli Bhajji, fried rice, noodles, curd rice, dosas.... And if you don't mind missing one or two items in your take out order its great for take outs as well !!

Great Restaurant, went here today after a long time and ordered a tiffin, non spicy thali, and onion tomato capsicum (bell pepper) utthappam for my family of 3. Tiffin is way better than Saravna Bhavan in Sunnyvale. Though this is way farther than Saravna Bhavan, Saravna Bhavan's tiffin is a ripoff and gives very small portions. Over here, they give a good amount of food which fills you up and luckily, their tiffin comes with drink whereas other Indian restaurants are too greedy too add drink to their tiffin/thali. Thali was not spicy and great like any other South Indian restaurant has. Utthappam was awesome with crispiness and tastiness. They could have done a bit better for the sambhar vadha in the tiffin, but it was still good. This is the best Andhra-Telugu restaurant in the bay area. Better than some Pesarattu and Andhra Bhavan (they are also from Andhra-Telugu state in India) nonsense in Sunnyvale...

I had the Tiffin. The portions are very generous. It came with a glass of 'lassi'. It was a sweet drink. The dosa that comes with it is quite large as well with potatoes filling inside. Pretty good experience for my first time. Will be back in the future.

As I say in my Yelp profile, an Andhra Spicy Thali is my choice for my last meal on this earth. If you have only tasted Tamil Nadu-style vegetarian food you must try the unique Andhra flavors they serve here. I love this place, from the steel thalis, to the coffee served in a little steel tumbler, to the indifferent service. It is a wonderful place! Caveat, the promised free Wi-Fi is a dud and is never operational.

I come from South India and here are my thoughts after having dinner with my wife at this place: Cons: * Mindless servers (waiters) - multiple occasions where the servers behaved below expectations. Not at all mindful about what they are doing. * Not clean - most of the dishes we ordered had some part of the food going outside the plate and touching the table * No flavor/taste - just spicy, as in 'hot' -- no other taste in most of the dishes we ordered. Plus: * Can't think of any. Disappointing over all.

I had been with my friends a couple of days back, hearing it serves very good South Indian food. I ordered Bhisebele bhat which was good, however one of my friend who had ordered a masala dosa got a COCKROACH in her plate. It was too bad and we all stopped eating. The manager then came and apologized for it and charged us for all the dishes except the one serving cockraoch. I found the kitchen & toilet to be very unhygenic. With South bay having lots of better options, I would never go there neither recommend anyone. ** Not recommended for people with small kids, unhygenic. Though the good tastes good, I guess the management should look into these issues **

amazing! we live in Fresno and took a trip to Milpitas for a concert and dinner. In the valley there's a lack of south indian and vegetarian indian restaurants, and missing the Seattle area we just moved from, we wanted to try the one of several south indian veg restaurants in the bay. it was hard to make a decision, but i'm glad we chose Tirupathi Bhimas. we've eaten in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, three south indian restaurants in the Seattle area, and dosa at two Fresno restaurants, so that's in my mind while assessing Bhimas. The food was of great quality and flavor, and while the dosas were average price, many dishes were cheap! and they had gobi manchurian (indo-chinese dish), which isn't that common in the US. We had Malabar Dosa, Gobi Manchurian w/ chapathi, chai, south indian coffee, and wanted falooda but they were out so we had creamy kesar pista ice cream. (we don't eat totally vegan when we have indian food.) this was all under $30. This restaurant is nice because it's apparently slightly different from most south indian restaurants, which is more tamil nadu-based, whereas this is Andhra Pradesh-based. We didn't try Andhra dishes, but rather tried the Malabar Dosa because we've been to Kerala. In addition to sambar and coconut chutney with the dosa, there was a third chutney, possibly chili-based? and the chapathi came with an amazing curry sauce which reminded me of Malaysian dry curry. Everything was great, and we may someday come back, but we want to try some of the huge variety of south indian veg restaurants in the bay.

My family and I come to Bhima's quite often as we crave their ghee masala dosa's. They are absolutely amazing. Their sambar is very good and idli and mini idles are just as good. Go experience one of the best south Indian restaurants in the Bay.

Went in with great expectations! Plus there was a sign of shree krishna sweets(hell ya me a big fan of their mysore pak) but nope that was disappointment too ...was told the sign is simply there because they got the registration for it ...hmmpff the idli sambhar is good ...thali--not so much ...we tried the indo chinese ..gobi manchurian it was quite ok. Fried masala idli was good but got us confused if it was paneer . the puliodherye(tamarind rice) was bad ..an andra restuarant with bad puliodherey not good ?? I think this place is good for tiffin stuff like idli ,dosa vada..... The place is large with ample seating .

3.5 like a Saravanaa Bhavan. dosas and thalis (several plate variety), got a gobi manchurian which had a thick crispy batter, but cauliflower flavor lost. dishes were spicy (spicy thali plate, watchout GERD), ok overall but not quite as much spice variety tangy soup. my favorite is still madras cafe.

I like this place. I've been here a number of times over the last several years, and I think the food and service have improved over time. They offer you a check soon. Some may take this to mean that they want you to leave, but I don't think that's true. I think they are just making it so that you don't have to go out of your way to get their attention and get the check. There are reviews here complaining that it took too long to get a check, and others complaining that they got the check too soon. On my most recent visit I got the check just as we were taking our last bites of food, and didn't have to ask. I have no complaints. Some people complained about parts of their food being cold. My chutneys were slightly cold, but I actually consider that a good thing. Many places let their chutney sit out all day. If it's cold, that means it is probably being refrigerated, which means it is going to be better preserved than food that has been sitting out (and also have less things living in it). My dosa stuck to the plate slightly (someone complained about that) - but it was extremely fresh and tasty. It was not overly oily. I thought it was really great. I think if it had been more oily it wouldn't have stuck to the plate. Or if it had been exceedingly crispy, it wouldn't have stuck to the plate. It was neither of those things, which is what made it excellent. The only thing I could complain about would be that the table wobbled a bit. Once we were eating the food, this was totally forgotten.

Yum, yum. My favorite part of eating at this South Indian restaurant is that they have a "Non Spicy Thali" on the menu. While there was a teeny bit of hot spice, it was on the whole delightfully light on the hot spices, which meant I could really enjoy my food. There's quite a lot of it, as with any thali.

Going 1 up since i've had a better experience. The bhimas special is pretty good. Get the podi chutney it enhances! I really like their veg. Schezwan Noodles, it's spicy and tastes like the noodles you'd eat at 2 am on the streets in bombay! Getting this at south indian place what more can you ask for :-p

Today, we faced worst taste from them. We ordered Mini tiffen and Business lunch. Unfortunately none of the items are good. Itlies are very dry, Chappathi are very Hard, Kurma is very smoky in smell and Tomato chutney is not good at all. In total, no items are good!!! Sorry to say this.

  • Venkat K.

I heard some hype about this place being 'authentic' from the south, but I was little disappointed after my first visit. I ordered a mini tiffin that comes with an assortment (small servings) of idly, vada, dosa, upma, and a cup of tea. None of the items were particularly tasty. Chutney that goes with Idly and Vada had too much salt. Masala dosa was way too brittle and started falling apart. The waiter was friendly and asked if I needed anything else. I thought of asking for some replacements but then I wasn't confident they would come out any different the second time...

Food was good. They could use some decorations or just some more personality in the restaurant. I ordered a thali and was very satisfied with what I got... something that I LOVED about this place was that you could take any of their dishes to go in a sizable container for only $3!! As a student who doesn't have easy access to south indian food, this was a GREAT deal!! As far as comfort in the restaurant, I think had we been seated along the wall and not in front of kitchen, I would've felt more at ease.

Found the food to be very good (I'd like to say authentic, but I really can't simply because I've never been to India) in this place a bit off the beaten path, It's the perfect choice for vegetarians. Will go there again to try more of their menu selections.

We went just before 12pm on a Tuesday, 15 minutes later and this place was packed. It was not hard to see why, the food was as close as you are going to get to home cooked vegetarian. I had the lunch tiffin which included a masala dosa , idly sambar, dessert and coffee -all for $7:50 which I thought was a good deal. If only these guys could replace Chaat Cafe in the city - SoMA would be all set!! ps. Not sure why there were 1 star reviews, I found TB clean and the service, at lunch time at least, was excellent.

Maybe I'm just a big fan of Indian food - who knows, but I LOVE Bhimas. I always get their spicy 10-item combo platter deal (no idea what it is called). Comes with some Naan and some thin-tortilla-chip-type things that are to die for. Minus one star because of the following incident: one time we came in a group of 8 or so, and the floor was just mopped/waxed and stupidly slippery. I thought to myself "that CANNOT be safe" and towards the end of the meal, one of the workers slipped and collapsed, pouring food down the neighboring table's connoisseurs. Poor chaps.

Overall my experience here was pretty good. I was looking for some good South Indian food and my parents had been here and recommended it so Ithought of giving it a try. We started out with some vegetable pakodas which were really good. They were very crunchy and with the red chutney tasted excellent. Unfortunately the coconut chutney (the white one) didn't have much flavor to it so we had to use it sparingly. The second dish we had was idly sambar. Overall the sambar was very good and hearty. It came with about 6 mini idlys which we ate with chutney and the sambar. good second dish. Then came the dosa. I think that the Dosa wasn't crispy enough. It just felt kind of soggy and that doesn't make a good dosa for me so overall I wouldn't try it again. Lastly came the sweet lassi. This dish in itself may mean i have to visit it again because it was outstanding. Very creamy yogurt drink made from yogurt tasted like a milkshake almost. It was very thick and creamy and had a sweet flavor to it. If you do end up trying this place please do have the sweet lassi. You won't forget it. Overall I'd recommend giving the place a try if you want some south Indian food and a great lassi.

I live a stone's throw from this place. So, whenever I don't have an option, I go here. The food is okay but the service could be better, way better. I don't know whether they don't have any work to do, but the staff who work there just keep staring at you after serving you food which is very annoying. They also expect you to get out as soon as you are done with your food. In the food, there are some things which are good and the others are equally bad. I wouldn't eat their Andhra Spicy meal. It is simply too spicy for me. I mostly eat Dosas. The other rice items are not great either. If you can walk a bit, walk from this place and you'll get to New India Bazaar. You will find a couple of restaurants there, again not great but better than Tirupati Bhima's.

My wife an I have been to this restaurant twice - once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch we had the spicy thali and the non-spicy thali. The food was okay - definitely not great south indian food. I would rate the food at Saravana Bhavan to be much better. For dinner we had sambar vada, rava dosa and masala parotta. The sambar tasted like it had been burnt. The rava dosa was crisp but very oily and without much taste. The masala parotta was horrible - it was oily and totally without taste. I am not sure what the other reviewers were comparing against when they claimed that the food here is great. I am a south indian who lived in Tamilnadu for 27 years. The food served here is at best tolerable south indian food.

  • Leejo J.

This is a vegetarian place and very authentic Indian food with a very strong indian food smell in there. I like their Thali, which has got a lot of variety of food choices. All their choice of side thali food taste good. I was so full and felt like trying a S. indian Filter coffee.. I wouldn't recommend this coffee because its very strong and sour. This place get crowded during lunch time, because of being in the hub of all the companies. In general this place has got a good S. Indian food..

This is where I come for my weekly South Indian fix. Friendly staff, good food. It could be cleaner. That is the reason for holding back a star. And, No wifi. Whats up with that?

always nice for lunch, but arrive early or there is a wait. Very South Indian, sparse on decor, attention on food, not frippery. I recommend the business lunch Service is, well, know what you want when you sit down, and order then. I love filter coffee, but never can get the order in before they bring the check and shoo shoo me out the door. I still like it.

Food is okay at this place; however, service and quality is horrible. We had found an insect in our dosa. Waiter saw it, agreed to it, apologized, and offered to replace the plate. We thought about informing the manager, so he can take some steps. Manager was very rude - he refused to believe us. When we asked him to talk to the waiter, he went inside, talked to the waiter in private, got him out. Now even waiter refused to believe!

The tastes and smells at Tirupathi Bhimas are the closest thing you can get to the real deal. You also get real deal Indian service, which is not very good. Still, this place serves fantastic S. Indian basics like masla dosa, idli sambar etc. Slightly better service would make this a 5 star place, but the food alone makes it worth 4 stars.

A few tips: Try getting there when the restaurant just opens up. That's the only way you are likely to get fresh food... We've been frequenting this place and its getting more crowded lately. The tables are close to each other, and the chair keeps slipping on their floor. The server takes the order, delivers the food and then dissapears. In the end, they get you the check. Its better if you take the check and pay at the counter. Yesterday, we ordered a plain dosa, and a business lunch. To be fair, the business lunch was quite good and fresh. The dosa seemed like it was cooked 30 mins ago. The Sambar had cooled and created a thick layer on top, the dosa had stuck to the plate, and was cold! When I tried finishing the Dosa, i had to forcefully separate it from the plate, which wasn't a good sight. Yuck! The restrooms are not cleaned often. The only good times we've had is when we went there just when the restaurant opened. Generally, some restaurants (Or many) cook in bulk before the restaurant opens, and keep reheating the same stuff, specially Sambar. So the later you go in the day, the thicker and bulkier it gets Unfortunately, not many south indian places in this area, so we'll visit this place sometimes, and will time it to arrive at opening time.

First things first...When you name your restaurant after a very famous restaurant of the same name in India, you better live up to that name! Back in India, Bheema's is a very respectable name that specializes in Andhra food. This Bheema's should first make up their mind, on whether they want to fit in themselves under the Andhra cuisine category or the Tamilnadu cuisine. Either ways they don't do justice, because neither their food is spicy like the Andhra food, nor their Sambar is as good as the Tamilnadu Sambar! Between the hubby and I, we ordered a Masala dosa, a Vada, and a spicy rice meal. (they have a non spicy version too). Letz start with Masala Dosa first. Seriously people, on a Sunday evening who takes the risk of serving Masala Dosa with COLD aloo masala? Are you kidding me? Just shows how seriously you take Yelp reviews! Taste wise I would rate it a 4 upon 5, but serving it cold just dint seem fair to me! Coming to Vada , taste and texture wise it was really good, but the Sambar that came along with it could definitely have been better! The Thali was also very mediocre..I have no clue what the other reviewers are raving about...seriously! The ones who think that the Thali here is good, should try the Thali at Saravana Bhavan! First of all the "Spicy Thali" was anything but spicy...to me it dint even come across as mildly spicy! My hubby who has very low spice tolerance levels also felt the same, so this is no exaggeration! Plus, the rice was one solid mass. When you claim to serve South Indian Thali , you simply CANNOT afford to mess up with the rice. Rice HAS to be fluffy and not sticky! This means that you should be able to dig a fork through the rice effortlessly, and the rice particles should have the shiny look and feel to them! It should be so well made that you should WANT to come back to the restaurant for the rice alone! And when you mess up in that department, you better try and compensate for it with good Sambar/Rasam at least. But the Sambar tasted like it was made with Ready made Sambar powder. Who would want to come all the way from Fremont till Milpitas to taste something like that? And don't even get me started on the Rasam. A mere look at Rasam should tell you how it will taste... Rasam should be a clear liquid, with the right amount of spice and salt. You should be able to see through the Rasam , yet not be able to see the dal particles inside it..But the Rasam here dint even remotely match the above. Instead it had very little liquid and the rest was a "Dal and God-knows-what" sediment. This was at 8 PM on a Sunday evening, so they could just not (and should not) have run out of Rasam to have made something that bad! The kurma served with Roti was ok...just ok..not extra ordinarily good. The curries that came along with it were below average taste wise.Out of all the vegetables they could choose from, for a Thali, they had to chose Ivy Gourd and Cluster beans? And that too with all the wrong combinations!?! I mean who mixes Kabuli chana with Ivy gourd?. Thatz like making fun of your hunger! When you are not too sure of things like these, a simple Aloo sabzi or a brinjal curry would be your best bet, because you can hardly go wrong in making these..:-) (just a tip) To be fair to them , I would say, the Tamarind stew was made really nice! That was the best part of the Thali...I would rate it as a 4 upon 5 as it was the only saving grace of the meal besides the yogurt! The desert yesterday was Rava kesari...atleast it looked like that was the attempt but that also was a disaster, with too much of pineapple essence and almost zero use of ghee! And no, I am not asking for too much, especially when you call yourself "Thirupati Bheema's"!. When you go to the one in India , you would literally see Ghee dripping from the sweets! I DONT expect you to do that here, but please dont pass off something that bad as Rava Kesari for God's sake! I am still rating the restaurant as a 3 (would have made that 3.5 if I had an option), because the service was FIRST CLASS! I would give them a 6 on 5 in this department, Right from the owner to the waiters came across as EXTREMELY pleasant, something which is very rare in the Indian restaurants here. The ambiance was also really good...The restaurant was big enough with enough space between two tables, and most importantly it was EXTREMELY clean and well maintained. Now if only they could combine these with good food, I bet this place could be the next Saravana Bhavan, and I could give them another try! :-) Good luck!

Like the location of it's namesake, this place has south indian food with a spicy andhra twist. I usually have the thali which is an assortment of vegetables and rice and chapati - some of the items are good, some taste off and some are just too damn spicy to eat - and I love spicy. The chapatis suck. The normal characteristic of south Indian restaurants (including in India) is kinda like wham-bam-thank you ma'am - no special service and fast table turnover, but these guys took it too far. We had barely got our meal when they came and asked if we wanted anything else. We said maybe later - knowing that if we asked for the filter coffee (which is a must-have in a south indian restaurant), it would be brought to the table immediately rather than after the meal. However, they just brought our check out and when we said we'd want coffee later, they came by every 3/4 minutes to ask if we were ready for it. As soon as we said yes, we had our check again and the coffee only came several minutes later.

I should have known better. When in a South Indian restaurant, eat as South Indians do. Unfortunately, my eyes lit up when I saw the Indo-Chinese section in the menu and so I ordered the Veg. Schezwan Noodles. It didn't taste all that bad but would only rate 2 on a scale of 5. But I'd go back to try the other items on the menu.

  • Vatsa S.

I liked the Andra Spicy Thali and some of their uttappams are good too. Chilli panner is nice. I would have given a 4 or even 5 stars for this place had it not been for the indifferent attitude towards the customers. They don't know the meaning of customer service. They think customer service is just serving the food one orders. As a result I have stopped going there even though I would love to eat there.

Being a South Indian maybe i sound too harsh here, but its tough to write anything good about this place. The items on their menu (dosas, idli, vada, andhra meals or even the coffee) are the trademark of any south indian place and frankly they are not too difficult to make. Or at least they are very difficult to mess up. This place messed up anything and everything that came out on a plate or in a cup. The dosa was tasteless. the chutney and sambhar is horribly poor quality in taste and freshness. My friend ordered the andhra thali and everything was pretty ordinary on it. the price is comparable to other places in its category (e.g. dosa place, sarvana bhawan) and they serve much better food. You go out to eat tasty food and sadly the tasty aspect was missing here. I wish Yelp allowed 0 star and this place would deserve it. I will not recommend this place to anyone!

  • Murty D.

GOSH. One of THE worst south Indian places in the bay area. All these days, we were thinking that the food is O.K. of sorts. But today when we went there and sat at the table, the waiter showed up at least 5 times to take the order while I was telling him and I am still looking at the menu. Once I ordered the food, the same waiter never showed up to fill the water or provide some extra chutney or sambar. And the food quality? No need to mention it here. You don't want to spoil your day by going to Bhimas.

Very good. The ambience reminds me of a small indian restaurant in bangalore. The nostalgia makes it tastier somehow. We've had dosa, uttapam, Andhra thali and idli. Love the sambar. Very authentic. Do not expect a gourmet restaurant. its just good food no frills

  • Aparna B.

I really did not care much for this place. I had the spicy Andhra thali which was not too good. Maybe I was expecting too much! Havent had the dosas , maybe they are better.. If you have not tried south indian food ever, you might want to try this place.

  • Allan A.

The dosa is the largest pancake/crepe/roti I have ever seen. The vadu is like a donut but does not taste like a donut. The food will keep you guessing what kind of flavor that was. The place looks like a corporate lunchroom. The crowd are all Indian mustached males that are either software engy's or IT techs/DBAs. 3 stars for the aluminum dishes.

I have always been a fan of Tirupati Vimas. I have always ordered my food to go and all of the time I'm happy with their food. I really like their sambar,it's really very useful when you have a cold. I was feeling under the weather today and had their samber and I'm already feeling better. I just wish they increase the quantity, especially items like Sambar and Rasam. That's the reason why I took off a point. Every time I order my food, it feels not enough (unlike other Indian restaurants whose serving size is much larger)

I like this place not only for the food, but also because it is one of the very few restaurants open beyond 9 p.m. (yes! San Jose is a sad city). The mini-tiffin is like a value meal. They also have good coffee. Careful with the spicy food, because it is spicy! Get the plain/rava dosas instead. Idly and vada area also a good option.

A very authentic South Indian restaurant: fluffy idlies (steamed rice cakes) with decent sambhar (like a spicy lentil soup), spicy dosas with good coconut chutney. Even the ambiance was very authentic (stainelss steel plates/bowls, sleepy service and smell of curry leaves being fried :-). I am adding this to my list of restaurants that I plan to go regularly.

I confess that I had only two items here: Kara Masala Dosa (I thought it was just going to be a Kara dosa, but I suppose here, the masala comes along for the ride anyway!) w/ extra kara, and a salt lassi. Dosa: crisp and well made. I had asked for fresh onions to be included - nope. Usually with extra kara (the spicy chili "filling") it's actually spicy... this was OK - still a tasty dosa, but OK - my #1 place for dosa is still Swathi Tiffins in Sunnyvale at Arques and Lawrence - there a kara dosa w/ extra kara is nice and spicy! The salt lassi was actually kinda bland - no chili or masala but on the plus side, they don't have a heavy hand w/ the black salt. I'll have to go back and try the rest of the menu as I love Andhra cuisine - I was tempted to get the Andhra thali, but I was craving dosa... so.... I'd definitely say give it a go - and yes, the service isn't wonderful, but it's not *that bad*... ------------------ Update: Since I read kinjal s.'s review, and *really*really*really* not liking roaches and other vermin in my eating establishments, I'm not going back here...

Is there a -1 rating? Avoid this place. It's just plan expensive and not worth it. Poor decor (cheap birthday decorations) and a lousy seating arrangement where you bump into your neighbor. The sambhar was watered down and the food in general was not hot. You've been warned! I would much rather go to Saravana Bhavan. Its a much better place and the food is pretty good.

For a delicous Indian lunch near Cisco Systems, this is the best! I'm not the biggest fan of vegetarian, but the food here makes you wonder how you could not have considered the veg. option before-- the food is so savory!!! The restaurant is stark. Clean and orderly.

My friend and I ate here for lunch today and absolutely loved it!! I ordered the North Indian Thali ($8.99) and it came with a bowl of rice, 9 small dishes, and 2 kinds of breads/flour cakes (sorry I don't know the names of the dishes). It was delicious and just the right amount of spicy. The yogurt was such a good palette cooler and the dessert was also very good! We were both satisfied with the meal and the prices were also just right. We came during lunch hours and it was a pretty steady crowd. I also saw the dosas and those looked delicious, but the popular choice seemed to be the thalis. Besides the North Indian thali there is a spicy one or a non-spicy one. They also offer curries and dosa at a very reasonable price. We will definitely come back in the future!

"Bhimas in Milpitas." I bet you never thought you'd find a rhyme for Milpitas for when you um, write limericks about Milpitas. I've gotten really into this place as of late. I think they have the best dosas and uthappam around. Why are they so great? Let's start with the dosas. The filling is the perfect potato consistency (not too soft but not raw and hard) and it includes cashews (I think that's what those were). The dosa pancake isn't greasy (I think in my earlier review I was remembering my hands afterwards which do end up messy, but it's from the potato not the pancake). The masala dosa ($7.25) was really good and came with sambar plus two sauces. One was coconut (Annapurna in San Mateo has a better coconut sauce but this one's still a keeper). We also tried the onion rava masala dosa ($7.50 - their highest priced dosa). I always assumed that onion masala dosa would have a filling with more onions but as it turns out the filling is the same as the masala dosa. What's different is the lentil pancake. It contains lots of little pieces of red onion and had a nice onion-y flavor. My husband said the flavor reminded him of Pizza Hut red onion pizza (it may sound bad but he meant this as a compliment). Our favorite uthappam was the tomato peas uthappam ($6.50), which I think was the best uthappam I've every tried. The dough has a nice slightly sour taste that reminded me of sourdough or injera. Also good is the mixed vegetable uthappam (onion, bell pepper capsicum) ($6.25). Two items were enough for my husband and me to share, which made me a cheap date. every South Indian place I've ever been to the menu has no descriptions of the dishes. I know masala dosa but I don't know the difference between it and malabar masala dosa or andhra kara dosa. I actually make myself ask two questions per visit to further my knowledge of the menu.

I was rather underwhelmed when we stopped by this joint on our way to a movie once. I got their Spicy Thali just to get a kick out of ordering a Thali in the US. Not particularly impressive. I would have expected to find one or two curries to my liking when they're serving half dozen. Meh. Still, my friends didn't seem to mind it. I may be willing to give some of their other dishes a shot the next time around.

I like a lot about this restaurant. My fav is spicy Andhra Thali. They really know their stuff and taste exactly like u are eating authentic food in India. My wife tried their spicy dosa, even though she eats mild spicy food and loved it. It is not a fancy looking restaurant, but food is to good. update [02/22/2008] Even though food is somewhat tasty, on my subsequent visits i observed the service has been degraded. You have to wait 20 mins to receive the check after you request first time. They dont fill the water glass frequently and you have to ask each time. Reducing my rating to 2 stars. Also the place is so crowded and the seating is so close to other eaters, dont feel like a family eat out. Will still visit, but less frequent(maybe two to three times a year).

2 Stars is for absolute lousy service. Its 5 Stars for food. I like spicy Andhra thali. The Mini tiffin is great. However, please do not expect to get your tea or coffee with mini tiffin (although its part of the tiffin as per menu). We had to request the server to get our coffee 5 times after which we gave-up. We complained to the manager, without checking his response was "oh, both are over!". Would I go back? I know the tasty food will draw me there, but as I am being seated - I will make sure to first check if they still have tea or coffee.

OK. so it was our fault to order cholle bhature at a south Indian place but hey! it was on their menu! so without any mirchi( green chillies) arrived the dish. extra oily single bhatura and a tiny portion of cholle. Embarrassed as i am again we did also order chili paneer, which was anything but chili, which arrived after main course was served. To be safe we did order a masala dosa, which was ok at best. the sambhar had a very strong flavor of hing( asafoetida). Lets talk about the service now. BAD. slow. we waited like 20 minutes for the credit card to be picked up. the waiters would dodge you. after waiting and waiting some more n then some... we had to just put down cash and walk out.

This place seems to be going downhill. This is the second time we had horrible service and food that was not good. The dosa was okay, but the filling was horrible. the chutneys were minuscule in quantity. I am surely done with going there whenever I crave a good south indian meal.

The food is average. It certainly was better than the one in Artesia, CA. It's an ok place to get together with some friends and satisfy a south indian food craving. The price is more than what I'd be willing to pay for what I'm getting. Certainly not going to be a regular there.

  • Kenneth I.

The food here is very good South Indian. Period. Some of the best in East Bay. This place is South Indian. What this means to you, is only order South Indian food. Remember this rule at all Indian restaurants: stick with ordering food native to the region (North versus South) of the restaurant, and the food will be much better. Since the menu here is limited to mostly South Indian anyway, it is not so much of a problem. The decor and the hygiene may be less than you are used to, as it is a small and non-chain restaurant. If you often dine at these types of establishments, you will probably find that this place meets expectations. Still, since ratings are meant to compare restaurants as a whole, I removed 1 star for this reason. Prices are in line with comparable establishments - I would consider it inexpensive compared to most western chain restaurants. Take your kids - no one will mind. But be prepared that they do not open until 6pm in the evening. This is also normal for South Indian restaurants.

I am not at all impressed with this place. I like 'Sarvana Bhavan' a lot so I know what south indian food should taste like, this is no where close to that. We ordered Dahi Vada - Vada was very hard and Dahi was sour. Sambar vada was no great either, Veg Manchurian was ok, Non-Spicy thali was not great. Service is bad (ie missing)

There's a reason why this place was completely empty: awful food. At least the Chinese food. I haven't had their South Indian food, which people rave about. But the Gobi Manchurian, Chilli Paneer, and Fried Rice were heavy and flavorless. Not going back, even if their South Indian food is supposedly good.

I love this place!! I have been there mostly on weekends. So I have always seen them during peak hours. The staff know their food. The menu size is perfect and has most of the comfort foods I've eaten growing up. Sometimes, the staff forget to maintain the premises clean and need to be reminded. The wait can be long over weekend dinners, but lunch is a good time to check their cuisine out.

Food is decidedly average. Service is about average (or sligthly below) for an Indian restaurant - and below average in general. The waiter wants your order pretty much in 20 seconds after you sit down at the table. Seems impatient if you have a large group and you take a few mins (less than 5, believe me) to decide. No concept of appetizer - even though they make a distinction between appetizers and main course items on their menu. If you order pakoras, well, you get 'em on a plate with chutneys - but no separate plates. Food - nothing extraordinary. 1. Disappointed with the taste of Sambar - for a South Indian restaurant, you'd expect the Sambar to be a lot better. Out of the 3 chutneys you get with dosas - 2 (red, green) are wayyyyyy below average for Indian restaurants. The coconut (white) chutney is actually pretty good (above average). 2. The quantities of chutneys and sambar are pretty limited - although, except for the coconut chutney, you won't be tempted to ask for seconds. 3. Rava dosa was disappointing. I really had lot better rava dosas right here in the bay area. For instance, at Swathi Tiffins. Yes, it is a hole in the wall - but at least it looks and tastes like a rava dosa. 4. Cleanliness -- or lack of it -- The table (supposedly a "clean" one with silverware and paper napkins set up) still had stains (coffee). One of the spoons wasn't clean at all - had dry food sticking to it. I don't know if they're actually connected to the real Bhimas restaurant in Tirupathi ... but they certainly don't live up to the name.

  • Smita K.

I like their spicy thali and Rava dosa. But the majot problem there is noise. Other thing is if you are sitting at the table next to the passage to inside kitchen, they have a cart for collecting used plates there and they are so careless that they pretty much throw th eplace in it and it very annoying. It is not very clean. They have reduced the quantity on their mini idlis which is pretty lame. Servers are overworked and are in rush always. We do go there because there isn't a better south indian option closeby but if we do get then won't go here.

  • Mayank R.

Ann L. wrote the first review and gave only 2 stars wihout any explannation of why such a low rating. I think the this restaurant gives you pretty good bang for your buck. The only reason I did not give 5 star is because it's too crowded, but then, that shows how good it is. The taste reminded me of food I used to have in Bangalore. Which means it's very authentic South Indian restaurant. You should go only if you like south indian. Don't complain it's not like North Indian or not as good as north indian, cuz it's different. Comparison is not fair. Thats like comparing American with French or Italian with Japanese. These are all different cuisine. Anyway, taste--4.5, Pricing--4, ambience--3.

There is too much furniture squeezed into the dining area, sometimes it is impossible to pull your chair out if the table behind you is occupied. Water is served at room temperature, and very infrequently. A request for ice-cubes may not be granted by the time the meal is over. Spoons are the same size as the bowls , which makes it tricky to use them to slurp the sambhar . Service can be slow at times. The masala filling used for dosas and puri-bhaji is watery , (more like lumpy mashed potatoes ) and does not have the sauteed consistency. They should stop using the costco potatoes or alternatively not boil the potatoes all the way thru but leave them slightly undercooked and finish cooking them by sauteing. Their masala needs some spice to make it a little Andhra style, maybe some hing , ginger powder and a sprinkling of reshampatti powder. IMHO, it is best to order masala on the side so that it does not sog the dosa. The "spicy thali" is not as spicy as one would expect, but more tangy due to tamarind . Here are some of the well prepared items: Dahi-vada : very simple, just dahi and vadas Rava-dosa : crispy, if not stuffed Upma-pesarattu : this is a mung based dosa stuffed with upma, and worth the wait Lunch special thali with little idlis Overall, a regular idli-dosa-vada joint, specially for lunch.

Solid 4 stars based on the Masala Dosa. Great lunch deal. Easily surpasses the quality of food at Swagat, which is great because I don't really like going into Swagat and dealing with their staff. Not that TB's service is that much better, but who cares when you're talking about a $5 lunch?

Giving a one star not because of the food but because of management. We are regular on Saturdays but the restaurant owner keeps yelling at the young students who work there on part time. It is mighty uncomfortable to eat in a place where somebody is yelling. I brought this up today and one more experience like the one I had today, they are in my blacklist.

I got good feedback about this restaurant from my south Indian colleagues and its my bad fortune that I decided to trust their word and take my family for a Friday dinner. Please do not ever go there. The place is unhygienic. Food is tasteless and ambiance is like a cheap canteen. We ordered mini tiffin ( a combo with idli, dosa , sweet), onion rava masala, north indian thali, kids dosa, pakora and pessratu uppaum. Only Onion rava masala was somewhat eatable although tad bit too oily. Rest of the food was utterly taste less.. in fact the north indian thali was repulsive.. (rice, roti were cold, and you can easily tell the curries were kept in freeze for good 7-8 hours).. we left that place in literally 20 minutes. I thought Udipi palace food is bad but compared to Tirupathi Bhimas, udipi palace serves gourmet food !. There is really only one good south indian restaurant inn Bay Area.. and that is Sarvanna Bhavan. Please do yourself a favor and do not waste your time, money and appetite on Tirupathi Bhimas.

I am not sure what's the hype about TB ! This one isnt the part of the chain in India. I happen to be a big lover of south indian food despite being from the western part of india. The food is of average quality. The AMBIENCE (not sure if that's the right word) sucks ! Poor ventilation. I took 2 of my friends on V'day for lunch ....we reached at about 1:30 , the place was filled with screaming kids and the service was SLOW. I ordered the fried masala idly. It was disgusting ...no sambhar and lousy chutney. The idly was fried with capsicum and onions ....I'd suggest yelpers to stick to the safe choices like dosas or regular idly ! DO NOT EXPERIMENT. If you dont care about ambience or seating arrangements -DONT GO.

Great dosas and south indian dishes. Have been there for lunch many times. Can get quite noisy during lunch hours. Haven't tried the north indian entrees, but I doubt the taste would be authentic. The interior is like a cafeteria, so I wouldn't recommend going there for a date :-)

We are South Indians and have had dosas in all the bay area restaurants. This one is the best! Love their onion rava masala dosas. The Sambar is pretty good too. Food is pretty spicy, so make sure to mention "no spice" as many times as you can!

Their dosas are pretty authentic and tasty. Their chutneys are awesome, but sambar is so-so. I'd definitely go back as they have the best dosas in the Bay.

we ate here last night before watching a movie at the great mall. it must be authentic, b/c i was the only non-indian in the whole place. we shared the gobi manchurian, sambar vada, veg chowmein, and the special ghee dosa roast. the dosa was GIGANTIC and came w/ potatoes and 3 chutneys. this was my first time trying indo-chinese food, which was pretty interesting. for instance, the chowmein came w/ packs of soy sauce and ketchup for you to squeeze on top if you wanted. the dosa was really crispy, not soft at all, which i guess is their specialty dosa.

Pleasant south Indian ambiance, courteous service, authentic food served in authentic dishes. A comfortable and healthy dining experience. Kid and family friendly!

Large services of wholesome Indian Vegetarian cooking. Service is kinda sloppy, and the place isn't great in terms of decore. But prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food.

I loved this place when it first opened, but now if you go early, the curries are cold which means to me that they are pulled from the fridge -- another words, not cooked fresh daily. I've heard this from several others so so this wasn't a one time event. But what turned me off completely is an entire family I know got food poisoning after having dinner there. I'm very disappointed to lose this as a place to go for good veg food, but will not go back.

This is my favorite Veg Indian restaurant. I have tried Thali, Tiffin and some Dosa with masala. They were sooo good. I wanna try other menus, too. Oh I like mango Lassi there.

I enter the restaurant and there is the usual sour faced person ready to seat us ... usual because it's like that at most Indian restaurant. No surprise there. He wants to force us to sit at a 2 seat table, I ask for 4 seat table ... we are 2 people ... after insisting 5 times he seats us at a 4 seat table. I'm surprised already about the argument because the restaurant is empty, so getting any table shouldn't be a verbal combat. Ordered vada sambar, idli sambar, masala dosa. sambar is good, vada soggy ... idli is sour, sambar is good, masala dosa is 3outta5 ... waiter brings glasses with fingers inside the glass, unhygenic!!! Place is clean which is positive. When I leave the person at the register is morosely staring at me and my wife as if I'm to blame for something. I say see u guys later, I get a blank stare in return. I guess I won't be returning then. Go where your business is valued. Bottomline!! Got food poisoning and my stomach wasn't right for 4 days!! Bad service, bad food! Plenty of other places where service and food are much better!!

I am a big fan of South Indian food being from that part of India. Just for a change, we decided to leave out the usual joints of Saravana Bhavan and Udipi Palace and try Tirupathi Bhimas, at the recommendation of my uncle. The place wasn't too crowded considering it was a sunday evening and most of them were getting ready for the week. I ordered the Spicy Andhra thali - although I found that there was nothing Andhra about it. The kara kozhumbu was great and so was the gongura chutney which was kept on the table. I liked the thali in general - but the sambhar was a disappointment. My friend ordered a Mysore Masala Dosa which turned out to be delicious and the red chutney along with it was also good. I would repeat this restaurant just for a change of place from SB and Udupi - and the kara kozhumbu.

A traditional Andhra style restaurant. You find a lot of Indian and south Indian restaurants but very few Andhra style ones, this is one of them! Thalis are great.

Very poor quality south indian restaurant. I have eaten here of 3 different occasions; food and the service have unexceptionally bad. The food is usually cold, not fresh, sambhar tastes awful (no fresh vegetables or masala), chutneys are mostly dal and hardly any coconut. Masala filling in side the dosa is tastless bolied potato, not even freshly boiled (seems like frozen mashed potato)! Last night, we ate at the restaurant, server brought all teh dishes in random order, appetizer (idli) came after the main course (dosa) even though we had specifically asked him to get it later. Teh assorted veegtable bhajjis' only virtue was that it was hot, but the batter was uncooked from inside, and the potatoes and brinjals inside the coating were cold and uncooked inside. The dosa itself was good, but masala filling tasted like sawdust. The gobi manchurian was stone cold, probbaly was left over from lunch, and made me sick later (food poisoning). I have tried the thali on prevous occasions, and food is bland, tasteless and stale. I have had genuine Andhra food in homes and restaurants in India, and this is certainly not it. Bad cooking, indifferent service and no ambience, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Saravana Bhavan suffers from the same lack of service, crowds and screaming children, but the food has alawys been fresh, hot, and tasty. I am giving one start as zero stars are not allowed!

Bheema's, a very renowned restaurant in South India especially in the pilgrimage Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh state. When I heard about this restaurant in San Jose, I was really excited. I thought I would check this place out. I was very disappointed by the place. I had the worst eating experience here. You don't have to go to Bhima's to eat an average tasting dosa/idli. Escpeicllay if you live near Lawrence Expwy. Go to Dosa Place. It is much better. At least they have better customber service. We went on a saturday to Bhima's. The AC wasn't working on a hot afternoon. I was sweating. I asked the hotel management about the AC. They were very rude. They did not even bother to say sorry for the inconvenience caused to customers. After all, eating out is not just eating. It's a lot more. The tables here were also very small. We were 4 and the table we were assigned was small. It couldn't even accommodate the plates that we ordered. Ambiance was bad. It was a total disaster. I will never go there again and I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone. 2 stars for the food. I liked the pongal and the chutneys. The wada was sub standard. Better go to Dosa Place on El Camino in Santa Clara. I forgot to mention one more thing. This restaurant is not even authentic. They have a menu item called Andhra Spicy Thali. It has some thing called as "Kara Kozhambu" which is not "Andhra" at all. It is a food of Tamil Nadu. These guys are cheating public by serving Chettinadu flavors in the name of Andhra food. I am from Andhra. They cannot cheat me!!!!!!!!!!!

The food quality is coming down often. Specially with idly, dosa, are you giving real chattney or mixed water? It's low quality. Also delay in taking orders. No one turns back quickly. Veg biriyani is too sticky and Disa pizza is too cheesy?

  • Pradeep V.

Been there a few times. Pretty decent South Indian fare at some of the cheapest prices in the bay area. The mini tiffin at $9 is value for money. Their dosas are also huge compared to other restaurants and quite tasty too. The restaurant is also quite big, making it super easy to get a table.

Keep going back there! Its quite close to where we live, so thats probably the primary reason.. Also, the service is quick and there are always seats ( so no wait time). We have gone there a couple times when we were terribly hungry, and we have been served pretty quick both times. Good experience both times and good south indian food.. the chutneys especially are really nice.. Sambhar is much better than the one you get in saravana bhavan.

We had our worst experience ever at an Indian restaurant. The server was totally disinterested, the dosa's were cold, upama had patches of cold like the microwave didn't work..sambhar was real spicy for a kids meal. This was second consecutive time we had bad experience - and this restaurant is off our list. They just don't deserve it.

We didn't realize this place is vegetarian only until we sat down. If you found yourself in a cafeteria in India, this is it. Not really romantic, but great for groups and families for a quick meal. My boyfriend and I ordered the wrong things. It didn't help that the waiter wasn't really helpful in helping us understand what anything on the menu was. The other customers in the restaurant were more helpful than our waiter was and actually pitched in our conversation to tell us what they were having and what was good here. The mango yogurt drink was delicious though. My boyfriend doesn't even like sweet things and he wouldn't let me finish the drink. The food is carb-heavy to make up for the lack meat. If you like carbs, this is it. If you're as naive as I am and only speak chicken masala, good luck.

I just visited this place today and I wish there was a way to give zero stars. I ordered the 'special' Mysore masala dosa which is supposed to have both garlic paste and Kara paste. The dosa was anything but special, the masala was non-existent, and there was barely any paste leave alone two different pastes. I pointed this out to the server and he said sorry we cant cancel this but you can order something else. I wasted 8 bucks on this pathetic dosa and I don't think I'll ever spend another penny here!!

once in a while my family wants to try south Indian restaurant in and around bay area, so we thought we ill try this restaurant. so we dropped by for dinner. place was not much crowded. waiter made us sit where more people were there. and it was so hot inside as the kitchen is outside in the dining area i guess. and they dint even bother to switch on AC nor open windows. hence we shifted to different seat and requested for AC but they made us sit near door and opened it half ! now food part: we ordered spicy thali, non spicy thali khara masala dosa and chilli paneer and soup. starters were ok. but main course was not upto mark , i mean spicy thali was not spicy at all. just 1 side was replaced in it for differentiating spicy n non spicy thali. chapathis were inedible. rice and side dishes in thalis were cold. oil was floating on papad. avial which they provide for nonspicy thali was cold and bland. only rasam was hot. we literally threw everything in thali. and khara masala dosa dint have potato filling in it. we had asked before ordering about masala . the guy told it comes with potato filling but we dint get it. Overall a huge disappointment . waste of food and money, while leaving we complained about cold and stale food with manager, but he argued it was right out of steamer. but we could tell it was stale and reheated many times. bottom line not worth the money and time. i wouldnt recommend this restaurant.

TL;DR : If you want to eat insects boiled into your food you have come to the right place. We recently went here and ordered for a spicy thali . First we found a insect in the rice we told the manager and they didn't even react just went and replaced that item. Since they are giving the same item and with insects boiled I am quite not sure how that is appropriate.. Similarly we found one more and again the manager didn't bother. The worst part is that they took the full price even tough we left had just started with the food... Don't bother to go here.

Very average food. The spiciness takes over the taste of the food. Especially in case of Indo Chinese. Left me quite dissatisfied with the taste even when my hunger birds were crying out loud. We also ordered kottu parotha which had the same flaws.

Delicious South Indian/ Andra food.. possiby the best I've had outside of South India. We had the spicy thali (an assortment- everything is delicious), the madras coffee, and the chettinad kotthu parotha (also excellent). This place is def better than Saravana, though perhaps not as known.

Went here thinking it is affiliated to the Bhimas in Tirupathi, India which serves amazing thalis with the traditional Andhra pappu (hubby and I love it). Was disappointed to learn they are not and even more disappointed to learn that they do not serve pappu in their thalis. Nevertheless, tried out their spicy thali, veg manchurian, dosa and chilli parotta. The taste was ok, liked the sambhar. People who enjoy spicy food, try the chilli parotta. Veg manchurian was nowhere close to manchurian, it tasted like deeply fried balls of flour dipped in a lot of spicy sauce. Still on the lookout for a place serving simple veg south Indian thali.

Haven't been to the actual restaurant, but had their food at a wedding. Was impressed with the quality of food on a buffet at a wedding. I loved their bisbelabath. Their dosas were made on the spot and were nice (simple, homemade taste) and the chutneys had the authentic good taste. I was disappointed with their sambar (as I expected a SouthIndian (tamil) restaurant to excel at sambar).

It's a very low key S. Indian Pl. does not many choices. The food was average . Husband ordered butter masala dosa . It was average. We shared a rasam (lentil soup) that was delicious . I ordered business thali it had different kinds of rice -bisibhelebath - it was goodish ... But not great Curd rice - very average Biryani- horrible I won't come to this place again .

This place serves possibly the worst Dosa (Indian Crepes) in Bay Area. The quality of food sucks in general, especially for the money you spend here. Don't bother about ambiance and luxury of seating here. I'm never going here again.

Quality of food has done south drastically recently. Stay away from this place if you are ordering Pickup / To Go. Food I ordered for take out had spoiled / un-edible food. This is happening second time. During the second time, I told them about my previous experience and checked with the person in front desk to make sure the food was freshly prepared and he assured me that the food was freshly prepared. Still after I go home and open the food, I found that food is totally un-edible. Chappathis were very hard, gobi manuchurian was hard. We had to trash them & get food from elsewhere. Looks like they gave us the food that was prepared 3 to 4 hours early or for lunch.

This place opens at 11:30am on weekdays so I had to wait about 15 min to eat lunch. The waiters eat lunch before 11:30am. We were the first table on Wed 1/14/09. I tried Sp. mysore masala dosa $7.99 - cheese, potatoes stuffed into the dosa. There were tiny cups w/ sauces: 2 soup like ones, 1 coconut one, & a green one. I liked them all. Dosa was fine & recommended by our waiter. I also got a mango lassi - bright orange color, taste fine of yogurt & mango, nice. B. got a cheese dosa - he finished first, I guess he liked it. He also got a dessert w/ one fried ball thing & 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream. He scarfed it all down. P. got Andha spicy thali $9.99 - sweet, sambar, rasan, porial, hot curry, kootu, kara kozhambu, kurma, papad, yoghurt, powder, pickles, chappathi, rice. He seemed to like it. P. got a masala tea which he enjoyed. They take credit card, though P. paid in cash.

I read great reviews on Yelp so decided to try this place out. We ordered: Idli Sambhar- ok, not great. Vada Sambhar- average Sada Dosa- - good but very oily Spicy Thali- Disappointing. It wasn't spicy, the curries were ok, Chapati was cold. All in all, not worth the drive to Milpitas from San Jose and DasPrakash or Sarvana Bhavan or even Madura's is a better option.

  • Harsha G.

Hands down this is my favorite indian thali in the bay area. I cannot believe I haven't written a review in honor of the simplicity and authenticity of the food offered here. We live right infront of a mall, so though most of our closest friends shop at great mall, we avoid going there. However, we always offer friends who want to shop there a lunch/dinner option before/after they shop as we don't mind the drive from San Mateo to Milpitas just to have some finger-lickingly awesome meals. I agree with Lisa's review, you haven't really understood the diversity in the south indian thali if you haven't tried the meal at Bhima's which is different from that of Tamil Nadu.

On my first visit to this restaurant I was shocked what kind of people server food here. Waiters here have very bad peoples skills. Six of us visited this restaurant While five of us got our food on time while my sixth buddy kept on waiting while we finished our food. When I tried reminding our waiter after 45 minutes for our pending order he was very irritated and showed his irritation to us very clearly to add on top used very bad words as if we are waiting in line for free food. I am very concerned person as far as peoples skills are concerned, I cant stand bad attitude and bad behavior. Also on top of it the they had no shame in adding 20% gratuity to my bill. I am not sure how are they doing business with such waiters. I guess people visiting here are more concerned of food and have muted their senses for rest of their dining experience.

This place used to be one of the better establishments for authentic south indian food. The last few times that I have been here I have been terribly disappointed. I am not one to comment on a one-off bad day that a restaurant could have, but 4 times in a row is a bit much. Here is the list of issues : a. Cold food - this is an absolute no go, I can deal with other issues, but a really cold Dosa that sticks to the plate is a non-starter. b. Chunky microwaved rice - Rice in the thail meals were chunky as if they were cooked yesterday ! They were first served cold upon asking for a replacement, they merely microwaved it and gave it back ! c. Badly cooked uthappam - Their uthappam was soggy, uncooked and sloppily made. d. Economizing on the thali vegetables - Frozen peas and carrots !? If I wanted that I'd have made food at home ! I'll think twice before I go back there again and come on folks, I really used to like this place before, but just because you have a constant flow of people does not mean you can start serving crappy food. Buckle up and get better in the one department that really counts - the food !

Lots of Indians here, it's got to be good! I've only had the spicy vegetarian thali here and man it was spicy! It was a lot of food and a very tasty one with so many mini dishes. The service was nice. My waiter took the time to explain to me what thali is and what was in each mini dish. The food came out quick. I like this place.

I got a "rubber band" in sambar today and hair a while back. I am surprised, they didn't charge me extra for the Rubber band. The vegetarian food is reasonable, but I don't know how they keep getting the health permit to run the business. More than few friends told me they had stomach troubles after eating at this place. I hope they improve.

We got food poisoning from here. Mentioned to a co worker who said he and his entire family did as well on another night. Several of the dishes came out cold which says they don't make things fresh but reheat. When first opened it was the best and we went regularly but that changed over time.

Food was not that great. Plenty of better south indian joints in the south bay. My wife had stomach troubles after eating the uthappam. Their special dosa was okay but chillis bhajjis almost burnt my tongue and drowned out whatever flavor there was. Service was even worse. Everybody looked really angry for some reason. I wouldnt go back again.

This is a little hole in the wall restaurant in a strip mall. Ate here last night with some coworkers from India. They said this place is AUTHENTIC and, heck, they should know! This was my first time eating dosas...happy to know that most dosas are gluten free but there are a few to watch out for. There's also one filling made from "cream of wheat" that caught me by surprise. We started with some pakoras, which were quite tasty. I ordered a Thali which had a mini masala dosa and came with a few other items. One looked like a giant old fashioned donut afloat in a sea of a lentil soupy mixture. The texture was really too much for me. One bite and I pushed that one aside. The Thali came with a Sweet Lassi but after I ordered I was told my a tablemate that I should have (could have) ordered a Mango Lassi instead. Wish they'd told me that. The Thali also came with a "sweet", which I believe was limited to ice cream (they never really explained). They had tutti fruitti (aka bubblegum), mango, pistachio (very chalky), and I think one other (can't recall what it was). Portions are generous here. Be prepared to eat. Service here was a bit off but I probably thought so because I wasn't one of the locals. Table clearing took forever...and dishes didn't come out together. I had to have my tablemates explain the menu to me. Most things were tasty according to my western palate.

I had a gigantic ghee masala dosa. It was amazing, I felt like I was swimming in butter for the duration of the meal. It's definitely "authentic" --- my server did the Indian head bobble thing (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He… ) --- if you're into that.

This is one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. For the value, this is the best. Our other favorite is different in that it has a buffet. There are a lot of Indians that go here...so we took that as a good sign that the food is authentic and tasty enough for for real Indians. And then when we were served the Mini Tiffin and Spicy Thali, we weren't disappointed. I loved that my Mini Tiffin came w/a drink, dessert, and a type of bread.

This is a pure vegetarian joint, so a big plus for me. Their spicy Andhra thali is great if you love hot and spicy. I often get the rava masala dosa and while it is pretty good, I have had better. The quality of the masala unfortunately, is a little too variable though.

Found hair in the food the first time. Second time, found metal brush pieces. When asked about it, they didn't do anything about it, saying it was from cleaning. Last time we go there a month back, me and my friend order, and the food doesn't arrive till 45 minutes. Even 1 star is not good for this place. If there were zero star, that would have been apt for the service and food quality/ hygiene.

I love their Masala Dosa. I have lost count of the number of times a buddy (Walnut Creek) and I (Novato) have driven down to Milpitas just to pig out on their Masala Dosa and South Indian Thaali/Thali (table d'hote meal). The Masala Dosa here is much better than that at Dosa in San Francisco; the dosa (or rice crepe) here is thin, crispy and well done; the savoury potato fillings does not disappoint either. Of the three chutneys that accompany the masala dosa, only the green one fails to find favor (mint?) with my palate. And the Sambhars --- I just love their Sambhar! It's the best after the Sambhar at Dosa on Valencia in San Francisco. I'd recommend the medu vada as a starter - it goes really well with the coconut chutney. Another recommended appetizer would be the idli -- either with Sambhar or without; substituting "gun powder" for the Sambhar. For the uninitiated, "gun powder" is a spicy chutney (for lack of a better word) with ghee in it. It's awesome when had with the steaming hot idlies. This college friend who is usually my partner-in-crime on these restaurant raids is from South India and usually never misses out on the South Indian "Thaali" meals. I've had it a few times but I usually like maybe 4 out of the 8 or so items on the plate. I love having my Rice with the Sambhar (daal equivalent), Rassam (a spicy soup-like dish that is guaranteed to clear even the most congested of nasal airways in the thick of an Alaskan winter) and papads (or "papadams") --- I recommend asking for an extra 1 or 2 papads with each meal. And oh, give the utthapams a wide berth as they were very disappointing!

Plus - plenty of vegetarian choices minus-we had dosas - they were average. It was Tuesday evening. The owner turned out the lights outside even before 9 PM even though the restaurant closes only at 9:30 PM. Old set of tables and paper napkins. Even though the restaurant was not crowded the service was slow. Considering the prices (for example for bhatura, which was much more than at North Indian restaurants) the ambience is less than desirable. The chapati that came with the non-spicy Thali was cold. Even the rasam/sambar etc were cold. On the whole a very average experience, there are better choices in the Bay Area. The Chinese noodles and vegetable Manchurian were not great. Even the non-spicy thali was very hot.

If it wasn't for my sister's friend - who's from South India - I don't think I would have ever discovered this place! He told us that the food was very close to "authentic" and my family and I were the only non-Indians there that afternoon - looked pretty legit and promising to me already. I've always been a big fan of North Indian food but have been trying to have more of South Indian cuisine lately - I think I'm becoming a fan of both! Anyways, my sister's friend took care of us; he ordered idly, mysore masala dosa, sadha dosa, mixed veg uthappam, rava masala dosa, and vada (I forgot which one.) The first time I had dosas was at Dosa at Fillmore and though I liked them, I knew they weren't the real deal. Everything tasted GREAT and fresh! The chutneys and curries were all very delicious, especially the coconut chutney! I only wish we had ordered more; next time I'm going there on a complete empty stomach! For non-food-related info: The service was pretty fast; spacious venue (but seating is kind of crammed); prices very reasonable; free parking; menu sans descriptions (how am I going to order next time? haha) I wish I lived in the South Bay so I could have easy access to more delicious Indian food!

Came here after a long day of traveling and this place seriously hit the spot. Indoors: You literally feel like you're in India. The restaurant is really simple, no real ambiance. This place seems like it exists to serve its purpose, which is to feed customers, not to give you an illusion. There are just a bunch of tables and chairs. A small idol's temple is carefully decorated along one of the walls. One disappointment was that the bathroom was a bit dirty and there was no toilet paper, paper towels, or seat covers, minus a half there. Service: Everyone was very kind and helpful, I only take off another half because our server would keep forgetting to bring a couple of food items, so we had to remind him a few times. Also, the people who ordered dosas had to wait so long that the people who ordered other food had already finished and were just sitting there. Food: I was craving a cheese dosa and I was super happy to see that they had it on the menu. It was delicious. The dosas are a good size, with that and an appetizer you'll be satisfyingly full. I tried the gobi manchurian, and I'm not that big of a vegetable eater, but this was delicious!! I HIGHLY recommend you get it even if you don't like cauliflower. It's nicely crispy and spicy. The dahi vada was delicious as well. One member of our party ordered the mini thali. It came with a mini dosa, idli, 2 chutneys, a sweet, and pongal. It was quite enough for her. A Madras coffee was the perfect ending to everyone's meal. I was told this place gets really crowded during lunch, so be sure to head there early. I would definitely check this place out. Next time I go I really want to try the chili paneer, I have a feeling it'll be bomb.

Terrible food!!! I ve always thought you cannot mess up a dosa and even that did nt taste good at this place. There are many other South Indian vegetarian places in the Bay Area I would rather go to .

A major fail. They don't sell Sri Krishna Sweets. They just hoist the banner. Update needed.

This place is great !!! I work pretty close by and I was there for lunch recently. I ordered a " North Indian thali" , this is a set lunch which comes with a lot of curries, vegetables, Indian bread and rice. The food was very tasty. The quantity is huge. It is hard to finish it. This place seems very popular and it gets very crowded during the weekday. Try to get there before 12pm for lunch. The service was very good. I would definitely recommend this place for a good south Indian food experience.

Recently we had couple of different types of thali and mini-tiffin. It was just ok. Nothing great but nothing bad either.

I think this is one of the best South Indian I've eaten in the area. I love their bisi bele baath - huge fan! I also really like the butter dosa. Order a business lunch for a perfect meal. The buttermilk is very good - I order it every time. And their service is efficient but don't go expecting too much. Some of their dishes are alright and some just amazing. So, it depends on what you try. I tried the gobhi manchurian for dinner once and that was just a bad idea at a South Indian restaurant (what was I thinking!?) But apart from that my husband and I frequent this place every time we are in Milpitas.

I get this place catered to me because of my job and my boss tells me that they basically make whatever the family who orders the catering whatever they like, regardless of the region they're from. They are VERY versatile and YUUMMMYYYY. Always vegetarian, always good, always creamy, always yuummmyyyy. I've been eating catered stuff from them almost every weekend this summer, and boy is it still tasty. The staff is awesome, they usually bring a stack of to go boxes (SCORE!) and they are very professional and get there on time (and not IST! Hah). I'm not good at names of foods and I'm definitely not Indian, but seriously- if an Indian dance company hires these guys to cater for them for the ENTIRE summer, you KNOW it's got to be good. I'd love to go to their restaurant but it's way far from where I live. But seriously, good food. I love the flexibility they have when catering.

Good south Indian vegeterian food. I've had dosa types and thali several times here. 1) Good serving size 2) value for money 3) traditional varieties and taste I prefer to go here whenever I want vegetarian south indian traditional food. Yet, I am not a fan of thier Sambhar and chutneys. So only three star.

3.5 seems about right. The dosa was pretty good. The North Indian thali was a let down. The only North Indian dish in it was the paneer tikka masala and came with 1 tiny piece of paneer. Don't think I will be back unless I am in the area and have a sudden craving for dosa.

I like Indian food but this food was just okay. I ordered the mini tiffin and it came with a little bit of this and that. The sweet lassi was good. The dosa was pretty good. Everything else was meh.

This is the place to go to for a good home style indian food. There are pros and cons to every place and you have to sacrifice something to get something, similarly this place is worth the wait even if you are in the queue. The food is awesome. I have had food at many famous and high rated places, but even tho I did not hear anything about this restaurant, I went to lunch with my colleagues for lunch and went with my fiancée and her parents for dinner to the same place and they liked it a lot. and here is my take... GOOD FOOD: 5/5 Most dishes I have ordered are really good, the spice level in the food was excellent and at the right proportion. The amount of food served at any given time is enough usually unless one is really hungry. SERVICE: 4/5 Service was slow at times since there is only one or two persons running the show and they do need more people. The service at lunch times is ok. AMBIANCE:4/5 none. They need to cover up the unused things in the front corner. Overall Rating : 4.5/5

Good taste and not pricey. But had bad stomach ache couple of times. So don't think I will go there, not worth it. Service not that great either.

I went to Tirupathi Bhimas with a friend of mine for lunch. There was a steady stream of customers, but we found a table immediately and I ordered Bisibella Bath and mango lassi. Service was pretty fast and within a few minutes our food was served. I liked the Bisibella Bath a lot and the portion was good too. I hate to say that customer service was bad, it was more like weird and funny weird. The waiters have a "take it or leave it" attitude, which we thought was hilarious. Basically, their low CSAT score didn't really bother us, and I would definitely like to return to this place.

Not impressed... not at all impressed. 2 stars is pushing it. We ordered Idli 3 star Chapati 1 star Onion Ravva 3 star Veg Biryani 1 star Puri 3 star While Idli, Puri and Onion Ravva are okay..nothing that I would long for. The Chapatis(which were cold) were served with Kurma which had the consistency of soup and no flavor what so ever. The veg biryani tasted as if a novice cook threw some ingredients in a wok and fried them with rice. It was a random dish with no rule or rhyme to it. The worst part of the whole experience was the floor. I am not a cleanliness snob...but I think if I can see greasy residue on the floor and my chair slides on the floor as if it's on ice... I feel icky...Never ever going there!!
