I've been going to La Casita my entire life, my parents had a date here. The staff has always been friendly and attentive, and most have been there forever. The food is always so good and the bar always lively. The soup is by far the best soup ever it can fill you up, cure a cold, and keep you warm on a cold day. Everyting on the menu is fantastic my favorites are the Chile Verde con Queso, Beef Enchiladas, and the Flautas. The Rice and Beans are also delicous.

We enjoy La Casita whether we sit down or we take out. They have great salsa and guacamole and their chips are addictive. We always order the chicken soup. Their tacos and burritos are wonderful.

Walking in, the restaurant immediately emits a dreary, worn down aura. The food is entirely bland and tasteless and the service is slow and rude. A waiter yelled at us when we asked if they serve desert. Really disappointed with this overpriced venue.

BEST PLACE EVER! very delicious authentic Mexican food,(I know I'm Mexican). The wait on Friday night was about 30 minutes, attended to very quickly, portions are very large. The Cadillac Margaritas are Great! (Not stingy with the alcohol) I've been going there for Mexican food for many years and I'm never disappointed

I used to come here for Spanish class field trips in high school, so I've always had fond memories of La Casita. But today I came here with my friends with only one goal: eat great food. We all ordered the Top Shelf Burrito, which my brother insisted is a must try. It was DELICIOUS! I can boast that I was the closest to finishing it, although even then I had some leftovers (I'm writing this review the next day while finishing this delicious burrito for lunch). The service here is always warm and welcoming. Dining here makes me feel like a guest, not a customer. They even made some of the burritos with half chicken and half carne asada upon request. Which meat is better? That's for you to decide.

Unfortunately the food quality here has slipped. I doubt we will eat here again. The last two or three times we came here we were disappointed by the overly salted dishes we had. Now added to that, there is the taste of lard. We shall be searching for another Mexican restaurant in Fremont.

I really love this place! I just moved here from Texas recently and I've been disappointed with the Mexican restaurants in town until I found La Casita! First off, it's a cute little restaurant that's easy to miss off of Fremont but there's no mistaking it when you see it. The staff is friendly and, if they aren't super busy, will seat you immediately. They make a great first impression with their awesome chips and salsa and continue with the great food. I got the cheese enchiladas which were some of the best I've ever had. They also make the absolute best Mexican rice. Ever. I will definitely be back again. And again. And again.

If you're looking for 'old school' Mexican cuisine, here's the coolest spot in South Fremont. If there's anything that could use a change in the place, it's only the brighter lighting in the main dining space. But, that being said, everything is consistent as it was yesteryear. And, it has been serving up large plates of enchiladas; baskets of chips along with salsa, and margaritas for years and years. Head to the old bar when you arrive. Order that margarita. Sip it with one of your compadres. Then wait for your name to be called and take a seat and order it up big time. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's tried and true and it remains tasty since the first time I visited this spot 'back in the day' to date. Enjoy it with family, with friends. Just go. It's Mexican food as it should be.

Hometown favorite! I have been going here since I was a wee little lass and they have yet to disappoint! I have almost had everything on the menu and its always delicious. The only thing that wasn't too great were the nachos, but who bases their opinion on the nachos? I've gone through a few phases, one being the taco salad with grilled chicken. Then the glorious super burrito. All leading up to my current obsession...the grilled chicken quesadilla! They also have a fantastic Cadillac Margarita and superb piña colada. All in all, of course I'm coming back here and perhaps I'll enter a new phase, the enchilada phase. Verdict: Try this place out! There is usually no wait, the staff is always friendly, and the little bar is super divey! The place is welcoming and has a traditional style and I usually take visitors here if the craving is for a good margarita and some Mexican treats! Things to try: Cadillac Margarita Guacamole Super burrito Taco salad Grilled chicken quesadilla

We were in Sunol for an appointment, and decided to eat dinner in the area. Using Yelp, we decided to give La Casita Restaurant a try. Upon arriving, we found that the exterior and interior decor were very cute. Overall, the service was pretty good but the food was just mediocre. We ended up getting the appetizer sampler and Gibo Special (chicken over potatoes plate). My favorite item on the sampler platter was actually the meatballs. The meatballs themselves were ok (a bit overcooked) but the sauce was so delicous! It was this sweet tomato sauce that I couldn't get enough of. The cheese quesadilla was also very good. As with most sampler platters, the nachos were only so so and once the cheese cooled down, was hard to eat. The chimichanga was also just so so. It does come with sour cream and guac, which is a plus. We were so full by the time the Gibo Special came that we didn't even get to really eat it. We only had a few bites but it wasn't anything to write home about. We did take a bunch of leftovers home so I'll be giving it another shot. La Casita does appear to be a cute, family owned restaurant, but we didn't enjoy the food as much as I had hoped. Oh, but something else super awesome - there was another table celebrating a woman's 103rd birthday!! And a gentleman from another table who knew how to play the harmonica got up and played during her birthday song. Yay!!!

My favorite mexican restaurant in Fremont! Consistent good food and service. I usually get beef flautas with beans and rice. My husband gets burritos (but that's all he eats anywhere). Clean. They never mess up my order even when I ask for weird stuff.

Stopped in here for lunch and took us a while to find parking, we ended up in the lot next to it, in the vet's office area, hoping we weren't going to get towed, as there were no signs. It was kind of empty, there wasn't anyone to greet us, so we stood there for a while but we stayed positive. Finally someone walked us to a table. The waiter we had wasn't very pleasant, he wasn't horrible but with only like 6 people in the restaurant, I would think he would have been more attentive and nice. Took a while to get our waters but luckily food didn't take too long. I ordered the chicken soup that everyone had been yelping about, but it anything too special... it was okay but could have used more flavor. Maybe I was expecting too much though. The salsa was okay, salsa was a little wattery for my liking. Main meals were pretty good. I had the chile verde wet burrito, it was good but again nothing I would drive out of my way for.

Some of the best Mexican food I've had in the area. It was a little bit of a struggle getting the check but that's a quibble. Incredible fajitas, everything was top notch. I'm putting this in the regular rotation!

  • Candace A.

This is definitely one of those local secrets! The staff is pleasant... The meal I had was served quickly and it was very fast! I recommend getting the seafood enchiladas. One enchilada plate filled me up. It was so good! I wish I could have eaten more!

  • Laurel M.

Hands down the best mexican food ever! I have been coming here for over 20 years and the food has not changed on bit. Always start with a house blue cheese salad (pickled beets make it) then flowed by rice beans and a chili rellano. Nothing makes me happier and never been disappointed :)

  • Erica M.

We came here for the 1st time because the reviews seemed promising. I ordered the GIBO special and it was pretty good. We waited what seemed forever and they said was because my order takes a long time to cook. Ok that's understandable the plate was huge and pretty well seasoned for $16.00, the chips are good but the salsa not so much. The restaurant itself is on the dirty side and very blah with plastic covers on the chairs. It definitely needs some cleaning. Service was ok overall....Will I go back? Probably not.

  • Anna M.

Haven't been here since I was like 6! I'm so glad I decided to come in today! The food was so delicious and fresh and everyone was so nice. There was a super cute family party going on at the time which was entertaining to watch as well so great for families!! I look forward to coming back on a night I don't work so I can try one of their drinks!!

On Saturday, 5/24/14, my girlfriend and I decided to eat at La Casita Restaurant for lunch. Our initial plans were to hit up tacolisious in San Francisco but with the 280 freeway and the 36th Carnaval going on, we settled for La Casita. Atmosphere/Decor: La Casita has been around forever. I've been eating here since I was a little kid. The restaurant's design or overall look hasn't changed one bit. La Casita is definitely not your nicest restaurant. The carpets, booths, tables, and interior design are very old. Once you enter the restaurant, you will see a bar area to your right. The bar area is usually filled with a bunch of drunk people who probably don't even care how the food tastes or what they order. There are various paintings on the wall which add a nice element and concept to the restaurant. Most of the paintings resemble or take place in Mexico. I honestly don't think this place would benefit or do more business if they were to remodel the restaurant. They already have enough loyal, frequent customers. Food: I've been craving Mexican for a while now. Since I only cheat once a week I decided to go with the triple item combination plate. I ordered the Casita Burrito Chile Verde, Shredded Beef Crispy Taco, Carnitas Soft Taco, side of sour cream and a salad with ranch dressing to start with. I almost forgot. The combination plate comes with rice and refried beans topped with white cheese. I always have to order the salad with ranch dressing. I know it's just a simple basic garden salad with ranch dressing but it always hits the spot for me. The only thing that I don't like is the giant purple beet. I never eat that dang beet. The Chile Verde Casita Burrito is so delicious! Chunks of tender, well flavored and seasoned pork chile verde are put into a flour tortilla. The four tortilla is covered in their special enchilada sauce and topped with monterrey jack cheese. The reason I called their enchilada sauce special is because I think La Casita has the best enchilada sauce I've ever tasted. The enchilada sauce makes everything taste better! It's so good I could drink it! The Carnitas Soft Taco was also really good. The carnitas was well flavored and tasted very fresh. The cilantro and onions gave off the traditional Mexican taco appearance. The corn tortilla tasted good as well. The Shredded Beef Taco is amazing! I love their shredded beef. Their shredded beef is simple and cooked perfectly. The shredded beef isn't dripping with sauce or anything like that. It's cooked plain. What I mean by that is, you get plain good old beef. My girlfriend ordered the Chile Verde Casita Burrito. She loves it! She has eaten at La Casita's with me 3 times now. She really enjoyed her Casita Burrito and said it is one of the best burritos she's ever had and the chile verde is one of the best as well. She also had the chicken rice soup. She said the chicken rice soup had a lot of flavor and tasted really good. Service: One of the female owners who is also a waitress waited on us. She's waited on me numerous amounts of times. She is very nice and polite. She always makes sure people have a great experience and they are satisfied with the food. The service was great. Overall: If you want the best Mexican Food in Fremont, hit up La Casita. Their food is always consistent. I've never had a bad experience with the food or service. They serve basic, fresh, tasty Mexican Food that will please you every time. In my opinion, they have the best enchilada sauce, beans and rice out of every Mexican restaurant I've been too. La Casita = Great Mexican Food!

Solid, authentic, Mexican cuisine in Fremont. Unless you are looking for a more Americanized Tex-Mex like Chipotle, you are not going to get better than this. Their portions are ample for the beefiest of guys, and they have some terrifically stewed dishes. Both the chili verde and Colorado dishes I had here with terrific, with wonderfully stewed flavors. The meat fell right off of the fork. What I liked even more was actually their grilled fish burrito. The fish had a hint of smokiness that just was a great contrast to the beans and salty rice - it was just terrific. Recommended place for some home lovin grubbin. Probably not the ideal date place as it looks like a redone house. But friendly service and staff here.

I came here for lunch and shared an entree with a friend. We got the two item plate that comes with some delicious and moist refried beans and rice. The chicken enchilada was good with a few dry chicken pieces but still overall good. You can also get a carne asada, pork or seafood version. I also had to try the bowl of chicken rice soup which has this tomato base and few pieces of chicken. I thought it was quite good and like a mexican version of Chinese porridge. I would try it if I were you since it is quite different than soups you get at Sweet Tomatoes. They also supply you with the unlimited chips and salsa...sigh my weakness haha

The best place for Mexican food from a family owned place. Chili Colorado is great

Almost everyone in my family is under the weather right now, so we decided to order takeout from La Casita. It was pretty busy when my dad and I came inside, but we were greeted promptly and directed to the takeout counter. The food was packaged well and even in a kind of cardboard box cut-out (it was nice to not just have a cheap bag with sauce/grease leaking through!). Anytime we have gotten food from this restaurant the portions have been very generous, and the food is tasty and still warm when we get back home. I had chimichangas and some chicken soup-both were great.

Still sucks. Why can't Fremont have a really good sit-down Mexican place? How can you confuse sour cream with sliced jalapeño? Why do people keep coming here? Why do I?

  • Rose N.

This is not authentic at all. No Horchata, No hot salsa, If your looking for authentic Mexican food this is not it. Looks legit but it's not ....

    (1)
  • Mike S.

It was typical Americanized Mexican food. The margaritas were tasty, if a bit strong. The chips were bland, but the salsa was good and had a nice spice to it. The chile relleno was awesome and the enchilada was above average. The chimichanga wasn't the greatest, but it was good. The use shredded beef, not ground; that isn't my favorite, but it's ok. Next time I have a hankering for a margarita and enchilada, I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make it.

We were in the Fremont area and didn't know what to eat. Had to kill some time so decided a sit down place was the best. My boy friend suggested this place. Oh why not. This place was a house before hand. We were sat down once we walked in the door on a Friday night. It was a busy night. Oh baby Jesus the room was soooooo loud, I had to lean in to hear what my boyfriend was saying. Food was ok. Not a fan of the rice, the rice sucked really bad. I ordered the carne asada tacos , the meat was actually pretty tasty. I ate most of it. Big portions. Service was really fast. I had a strawberry margarita, it seemed like there wasn't enough alcohol in it. My boyfriend had a beer, and the breaded fried shrimp plate. The shrimp were definitely out of a box. Don't think we will ever go back.

  • Brad G.

The place is clean and looks well cared for. The menu is broad and even has selections for non-Mexican dishes. The food was delicious, especially the beans and rice, which I usually don't care for much. The Carne Asada was tender and delicious, cooked just right. The only reason I can't give this establishment five stars was the service, which felt rushed and under attentive, especially considering it was not busy when I was there.

That evening we had dinner at La Casita, a Mexican eating establishment in the Irvington area of Fremont. It was apparent that this is where the locals come on the weekends, especially those of Anglo decent. We ordered the Taco, Chile Relleno, and Enchilada combo. The Taco: We opted for steak in our taco, which was tender but not salted properly, and with just lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole, I found it a bit lacking in flavor. The Chile Relleno: The chile relleno was pretty decent--it's hard to dislike a mild chili stuffed with gooey cheese, but I guess I forgot about the scrambled egg part, which makes it taste a bit too much like it belongs in a breakfast burrito. The Enchilada: We got chicken in the enchilada--nothing really stood out about this item--it was okay I guess, but very standard and not special in any way. In fact, this brings me to my main criticism of the place--it's very Anglo-centric, traditional Tex-Mex fare served with a plate of rice and refined beans that would feel very at home in an elementary school cafeteria (to its credit, though, the meat was certainly not Grade F school cafeteria meat). Nothing daring, nothing original, and certainly nothing authentically Mexican.

  • Nikky R.

Being Mexican I have always grown up with good, fresh, delicious traditional cuisine. I was excited for my dining experience here, expecting something great! However, when I got there and got my order of the fish tacos it was extremely disappointing. The tacos were bland and the sauce was less than impressive. The fish had even been served with a couple of bones still in it. It was the most sorry excuse for a Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. (And mind you, I have been to some bad ones) this place is overly priced and service was not very friendly. I would have even considered going to Taco Bell instead after my experience here.

The food was amazing! Full of flavor and it came out quickly. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for good food, quick service and large portions!

    (5)
  • Savannah G.

It's traditional mexican. Don't look for gentrified, polished alta cocina mexican. But do go to find flavorful, generous portions of belly warming satisfying old skool mexican food. The sleepy sometimes slow and awkward service works well enough if you can remember a time when the bay area was not an agro zoo fueled by high octane sugar drinks. The service slow roll is fine - the food is worth it and comes out pipping hot. No harm no foul. Next time in the area will definitely go back...and perhaps even make a trip just to satisfy what feels like a growing craving to eat enchiladas with unos huevos fritos again.

This restaurant was once a home. The family started this as a Mexican deli way back in the 70's. Over the years, they have expanded the main dining room. This is a over 40yr established Fremont family owned icon for Mexican food here. *IF you are a 'foodie' , this palce may not be for you. *IF you are in a large party-CALL like any civilized adult would. *This is good old fashioned, NOT Tex-Mex or Anglofied food. *Someone on here accused them of using CANNED products! How dare! The tortillas are from The Tortilla Factory in Newark. They make EVERYTHING else from scratch! As for the service, most Friday nights (they're busiest, by far), you're lucky to be seated within 15min. After, writing your name on the very visible pad of YELLOW paper in the front, hanging on the wall. They have 3 main servers & an extra guy sometimes on Fridays-depending on crowd. There are apprx. 3-4 busboys that also get non-alcoholic drinks, chips & salsa & water. *The chicken & rice soup made w/a tomato based stock is magical. A lot of locals will tell you they eat this soup whenever they are sick. It always makes me feel better when I'm sick too. I'm a super, duper picky eater. So, it is really hard to find fresh, tasty, simple food like home. Grew up eating here since I was a kid & 40yrs later, I STILL LOVE this place!! Even after eating at so many Mexican places all over the bay area- I still prefer La Casita!!! *And the "anglos"? A lot of them are Hispanic (not all Hispanics LOOK alike), as Fremont & the surrounding areas have historically been Hispanic, Portuguese, Spanish, English, Irish, Native American, German, etc.. FARMING COMMUNITIES. Until all the homes popped up. This isn't RWC, this isn't SF, this isn't SJ - this is FREMONT.

MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Very attentive staff.. great food and the best margaritas you can find :) Yum!! If you haven't been here, you're missing out!

  • Mansi A.

Many Yelpers were raving about the chicken & rice soup, and while it was no tortilla soup, I still had to order it. Unfortunately, it was under-seasoned and bland. I shared the massive super veggie burrito as my main entree, and it was pretty tasty with a balanced combination of flavors. The plate, however, looked stark and barren, because you literally receive a very plain-looking burrito. I realize that all of the rice, beans, etc components are within the burrito, but the presentation looked quite dry and cold with no sauce, no rice, no decor on the plate itself. The food overall is decent homestyle Mexican cookin', but again, nothing to rave about in an area where exceptional can be found.

Went here for the first time and service was pretty good but my meal was terrible. I ordered Pork Verde and all the pork was fatty! The rice was dry and No flavor.

Casual dining, impeccable food. I had a combo plate and nachos with the family - to die for. There's a big reason this place has been around for decades. Even the simplest things, like the rice and beans, are homemade and delicious!

This is the second time I've been here. Love it every time. The enchilada sauce is so yummy and homemade. The shredded chicken and beef are amazing and do tender and full of flavor. Sad I moved away from Fremont.. Cause this place is the best.

  • Paul W.

La Casita can be a little hard to find at first (I'd tell you where it is exactly but then you'd want to go there and the lines would be worse than they are already). I've been here a few times now with various other people, and I think the big message is that they all want to go back here again. Overall, the food is well flavored (spiced but not overly spicy), and served relatively quickly (in that "not too quick" but "not too long" range) perhaps with the exception of the times when the place is heaving. Having tried a few items now, I'd suggest moving away from the traditional US Mexican items (burritos, tacos, etc.) and trying some of the house special plates. Not that they burritos are bad, just that that other items have more interesting flavors on the plate. Be warned that some of the portions are gigantic (I'm looking at you super-burrito which could probably feed 2-3 people on a normal day) and the décor is stuck sometime in the 1960s. Oh and try the sangria if you are looking for something other than beer or soda to drink

Fresh food and good customer service! The nachos are to DIE for!

  • David Z.

Super burrito is really good! Got the steak one and it's big enough for 2 people. Prices are good but the service was on the slow side. Other than that definitely recommended as one of the better Mexican places in Fremont!

  • Anvesh G.

Came here with a friend for dinner. Drove past it a couple times because it doesn't have a huge sign. On the inside though, looks really cozy and friendly, looks family owned. Went with the Enchilada, Chimichanga, Burrito Chicken Combo. It was freaking huge. I could barely finish half of it. The tastes were really authentic and free chips and salsa were a plus. Had pretty fast service. Could be a tad cleaner on the tables but I guess that's just what happened with me. Definitely try it out if you're craving some nice Mexican Cuisine (not Chipotle).

  • Gretchen L.

Wonderful food! By far my favorite Mexican Restaurant (since I was 16-17) and that was a long time ago! I recommend ordering the chiccarones and I also love the mini chimichungas (not the same as the regular ones since they put chorizo beans in the mini's). The soup is always good as well. I was bummed when they raised the price a dollar to get a cup on the side with your meal, it used to be $1 and now it is $2. Obviously the demand increased the price, it isn't the ingredients that caused the increase. Pretty simple but delicious chicken and rice soup.

Awesome food. The portions are off the hiik. We sat at the bar and a lot of regulars came in and they were as friendly as the staff. Great salsa and awesome chicken enchiladas. The margaritas were tasty too.

  • Peter J.

Very good service. Greeted with a smile every time I come in. Waiters always take your order fast and will fill your drinks before they are empty. My only issue is the food. It's just ok. Think they try to be authentic but their customers are mostly non-Hispanic so they tone it down a bit. They don't have all the exotic meats at a true taqueria has. I'm conflicted by not giving them a 4 star for great service but I have to be honest with their food in attempt to get them to make it better.

    (3)
  • Liz V.

It's been years since I've been here and I'm sadly disappointed.... Definitely not authentic. So much seemed like it was poured out of a can or bottle! Sad that they've resulted to lower the quality and authenticity. Hopefully, they'll realize and stop cutting corners to save a buck & bring freshness and real authentic Mexican recipes as years before to bring back it's glory.

Delicious, flavorful Mexican food, probably the best in Fremont! Not everything is perfect, but most of it is really delicious and flavorful. Their margaritas are adequately strong and very limey, in contrast to most that I get in other places.. The beans and rice are delicious, and the entrées that I have had were also very good. Downsides? The place does get crowded and noisy on certain nights and on weekends. And I don't like the way they put their guacamole in a bowl full of lettuce, so you think you were getting a lot more than you really are. But these are relatively trivial complaints. The food is delicious and stands on its own.

As a lifelong Fremont resident, I've been coming here for years. It's definitely the best Mexican food in Fremont. My husband always gets the chili Colorado...it's amazing...they have the best chili rellenos you'll ever eat...I love the shrimp special, which is a grilled shrimp in garlic butter with rice and beans...but the chili verde is awesome too...great food...great drinks....great service...great atmosphere

family run business, we had a hard time finding parking or the place but service was good once we got in. the food was ok. i think it was a little over priced for what we got....taco salad, and a plate of enchiladas with a few drinks ($60 ish) well, we like supporting local when we can. bottom line would we go back?, i wanna try another place out but if someone wanted to go i'd give it another try.

I must be really easy to please. But let's not mistake a statement like that on the assumption that all mexican food places are good. They aren't. The awesome thing about this unassuming little restaurant was that the food was so good, it felt like I was in Mexican food heaven. I'm going to be honest-- The chips and salsa weren't all that great. But our entrees were what put this restaurant over the top. I could forgive them for the sub-par salsa. (If you guys are curious to know why the salsa was forgettable, it was because it tasted really watered down.) When I ordered my Chicken Enchiladas with tomatillo sauce, I forked some beans into my mouth and it was then that I knew this place passed the test. The refried beans were nice and flavorful, not too salty and I ate through half of the portion before touching the rest of my plate. The rice was just as good and I easily could have had a whole meal of just the rice and beans alone. Did I tell you I was easy? The Chicken in the enchiladas were nice and tender and the tomatillo sauce had a great tartness that really made the flavor of the chicken come out. Oh and did I mention the cheese? Yes, there was lots of cheese on this huge plate. But not too much that it overpowered the actual food. Writing this review is making me crave some right. NOW.

I do not understand all the great reviews other than say it must be people in Fremont don't know good Mexican food. As one reviewer described the food correctly: typical americanized food. The outside looks quaint with hacienda like arches but the inside was hideous poorly lit and STUFFY. We almost walked to the kitchen to be helped and sat before someone rushed us to our table. We ordered the combo specials which came with different items..tostada, taco, burrito, enchilada, etc., which came with rice and beans. The waiter was rude and callous, seemed to be upset taking our order. The food came back quickly and it was the hottest food I've had so we had to wait a bit to eat it. Sadly it was not tasty. Very salty, the taco was crunchy, with a taco hard shell(not typical Mexican style) which I hated, tasted stale. On the other side the tostada was actually soggy which I had to attempt to eat with a fork...sadly it was not even worth it.since the waiter said all meat had to be the same all items tasted the same, gross gross gross. The rice was salty and the beans tasted of lard or something like rancid oil. The beans werw covered with melted mozzarella? cheese altogether looking like a gooey liquidy runny mess. Traditional mexican cuisine uses crumbled cheese which is litlghter and more flavorful than melted cheese but i guess thats my preference. The salsa was probably the best thing however mediocre at best. It was pricey considering the quality but the portions appeared OK though hard to really say as the runny beans covered half my plate. I would not recommend this place at all unless you like to spend a lot for something somewhere along the lines of a hyped taco bell. It's hard to find a good place to eat Mexican food around here.

I've only been here once, but it was extremely good food. My boyfriend has been coming here for years and took me. We both enjoyed both our meals and can't wait to come back again!

I ordered the shrimp platter. The food was yummy. I tried the other items that my family ordered and theirs was yummy too. I forgot the drink that I ordered but it was gooooood. It was the red-bull one. I drank all of it before leaving the table.

Came here for a mother/kids dinner date with some of the family after going through reviews on yelp. It was just meeeeh for us. I've had better and probably wouldn't come here again. Here's why: I would like to start off by saying the people who work here are really nice and accommodating. But we did have three people helping us...kind of weird. Anyway, the place was pretty packed for a Friday night. I had made reservations, but for someone whose never been here, there really is no hostess there to ask how many people in your party. You have to walk a few steps forward towards the kitchen area, write your name/number of people in your party on a piece of paper on a clipboard and THAT'S their hostess. I love me some salsa, but they don't really serve salsa. It's watered down (or just watery I guess) pico de gallo...-1 star. We wanted to order a pitcher of margaritas, but they only serve them by the glass so we got 2 liters of sangria. Now, when I think of sangria, I think of fruit being in my drink. Nope, there was no fruit. Just a lime and piece of orange hanging from my glass. -.5 for no margarita pitchers/no fruit in my sangria. And finally -.5 because the food was a little too salty for my taste. The menu has a lot of choices, but we ordered the super burrito and a few combo plates, with cheese enchiladas, chicken tacos/burritos. No one really had any complaints about the food itself, except again, that it was a little too salty. Nonetheless, the portions are big and good.

3.5 stars. i've driven past this place for years and never came. however, the fam wanted mexican food, so we came here on saturday. the portions here are huge, and the prices are reasonable. i had the seafood caldo, which was really tasty and filled w/ shrimp and fish. service here is pretty slow, considering it was not packed, but at least they kept the chips coming.

This place is no good for a family size of more than 4. The wait to get a table is about an hour. Another 30 minutes to get a waiter!!! I'm not finished eating and I'm ready to walk out!!! Most restaurants you get a waiter asking if everything is OK, we haven't seen our waiter since we got our food. So if you have a big party don't think in coming here, pay the $5 and go across the bay to redwood city. Oh btw I'm still waiting on my tortillas!!! SMH!!!

I had not read any of the reviews prior to going here and in writing this review I still haven't. We came here on a recommendation from a friend. I am hoping in writing this review that the business owner reads his/her reviews and tries to improve the areas that need improvement. I am a local small business owner myself and love to see other small businesses in my area do well. Our visit was Saturday night at 9pm. When we walked in for the first time. there was no host/hostess to greet us or even any sign telling us to "wait to be seated". We stood in the dining area for a couple minutes looking at each other not knowing if we were to seat ourselves or wait. Finally someone came up to us and seated us. Inside the dining needs some help. The decorations are old and the seats we sat in were torn up and the foam was showing. The ceiling shows signs of water damage. A table that had just been cleared next to us was a little tipsy and lopsided and needed to be re-stained. It's an interesting atmosphere in this place. I'm not sure if we caught them on a rough night but the volume coming from people sitting at the bar was very loud and they were using a lot of profanity. Again, this might be have been a product of us catching them on a bad night with a bad mix of customers but I doubt it, they seemed like regulars. The bartender needs to do a better job of regulating the noise and profanity used at the bar especially when there's children in the dining area. On to food and drink. The chips and salsa was out first and I was very, very disappointed. Salsa was pretty much red water and even though the chips were good and not stale, half the basket was full of broken chips that were useless for dipping. Second we go our margaritas and they weren't bad, nowhere near the best but average. Then came the side salads. I know the taste of Costco salad when I taste it. It's good, not restaurant good. It was just a plate of this mixed lettuce with a beet on top. No tomatoes, nothing else. The food was the savior of this place and a possible 2 star rating. I ordered the surf and turf tacos and my girlfriend ordered the combination fajitas. Mine came out a little different than I had hoped. "Tacos" was actually 1 taco. It was 3 pieces of shrimp with plenty of steak inside a tortilla. Nothing else. Guacamole, rice, sour cream and beans were served on the side. The taste of the food after I actually got it in my mouth was good. Very tasty. No complaints about the quality of food. My girlfriends fajita was just as good but only complaint there was that her pieces of meat were not cut and she needed to cut them herself and was not provided with a steak knife, just the butter knife that was on the table. Wait staff were helpful and nice, check was brought out in a timely manner and service throughout the meal was good. Overall I would visit this place again because like I mentioned before, the food was good. Or maybe I'd consider picking up food to go. I really do hope the owner or manager reads these reviews and realizes there are things they can do to provide a better experience for their customers so we will come back.

It's really a 2.5. The good: Margaritas, rice and beans Seriously delicious margarita... I guess my first clue should have been all the gringos in the place. I had a combo plate with enchilada, chile releno and a taco. And my husband had a burrito. We each had chicken. It was really bland and the chicken had a funny texture.. Just not good. One of the few times yelp has let me down. Typical service for a Mexican joint.. Saw our server for drinks and food order and that was it... Sad as I would have enjoyed another margarita. I'd go back for drinks and chips and guac... But that's about it.

I still love their chilrelleno and rice soup. Service is good. The food in General is very greasy though I would ask for no cheese or lite cheese.

Welp, my craving for Mexican Food as not met. Food was really greasy and way to much cheese. The meat in my enchilada was tasty, so i just picked it out and ate it with my chips. Rice and beans were really good, that's about it!!

In case you hadn't heard, the chicken soup is the chicken soup to end all chicken soups. Rice, tomato, chicken, magic, done! Simple and satisfying, who cares if it's August in Fremont? The hot weather can't stop me! Everything else I've had has been yummy too. La Casita has been a family staple for generations.

Super delicious & fast! Traveling on business and read reviews. Pictures were spot on. Had a combo 5...tasty & enough for lunch tomorrow. Staff is super friendly. You can see why they've been around 40+ years. Mexican food fix achieved!

Service was good but the food is way over priced and is very american-ized (I'm talking a crunchy taco shell.)

Best Mexican restaurant in the tri-city area! I always get the Top Shelf Burrito with Carne Asada! Getting that right now as I type this..can't wait for it to come out of the kitchen!

Was craving a good steak. Theirs is definitely no Bueno. Was hard to cut, even harder to chew. Didn't even want to give it to my dog. And... The decor alone and cleanliness of the place is a reason not to go. Our booth was wobbly and leather seats were coming off and the carpet was dirty. Checked it out because of the good yelp reviews...disappointing for sure.

After reviewing the comments on this page, and seeing all the five stars...we went for lunch. Seriously, horrible service...waiter had an attitude. Not friendly at all, and when I asked about a certain food item, he acted like I should have known. Chips were stale and there were pits and pieces of chips. Salsa too chunky and no flavor. Refried beans were runny, and overall food was tasteless. This is not authentic Mexican food by no means. Prices are too inflated for a lunch serving.

I been going there for many years! I was so disappointed. I took my girl friend there for dinner! My waited was a older gentlemen who was not very friendly the food wasn't very good. I had a to ask for a refill! I got a bad feeling and felt ignored! I won't be going back! Lousy service! Lost and long time customer.

Surroundings - it's in a nice part if Fremont/Irvington. On the main street, and didn't see any rif raf around. Atmosphere - Typical Mexican restaurant, nice paintings on the wall, ambiance was good, seems to be good for families or date night. There was a bar area, but I don't drink, but I've seen other yelpers, say it's ok. Menu - Pretty extensive menu. Something for everyone. Service - Service was great, as they sat you down, someone is bringing you water, chips and salsa. Food - Food was great, very good sized portions, it came out piping hot, great flavor, but could have used a few more beans and rice. They also kept plenty of chips and salsa flowing. Overall - I'd come back again, food was great, waiter/staff was attentive, and like most Mexican restaurants, there was a lot of their own, which 80% of the time means, it's pretty good.

This place is a Fremont staple in the Irvington neighborhood. Its sit down and casual. My favorite things to get are: their soup which is a tomato based chicken and rice. Chimicangas, their rice, and tamales.. Service is quick and to the point. I wouldnt say its the best server customer service but they quickly bring me hot delicious food without issues so what can I say? :P

Ordered the chicharron 1/2 plate. Very little meat for the portion. Most of the plate was onions, beans were from can and covered the bottom. Jalapeños poured with excessive juice all over the plate. Not the best plate, not best service. Good was ok, giving the two stars. Not sure I would come back.

4 stars because this place looks VERY sketch from the front. Quiet and lonely, lacking personality from the outside but when you enter its warm and inviting! The decor inside is a little dated but not dirty. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada burrito and I, the tampiqueña. It was cooked very very well and had great flavor and both plates were packed FULL of tasty food for such great prices! I would go back!

I have to admit, my mom has been talking about this place for as long as I can remember. She used to eat at this place over 20 years ago and has not gone back in 20 years. We never had the opportunity to eat here because we live in SF and the drive was not worth it. It just so happened that I had to drive over here for a friend and this was the first place we went to for lunch. I was very skeptical about this place because I felt like my mom's reccomendation was a memory that was much better than reality. I ordered the carne asada with a side of their chicken soup. I WAS NOT disappointed. My sister ordered the fish tacos that were HEAVENLY and I don't even like fish. I really truly have to give this place 5 stars because the food was finger licking good. I'm latina so I KNOW what good latin food is. This is it! The chicken soup is so delicious, it hit the spot since it was pouring rain on Saturday. I highly recommend this place. Their guacamole is DELICIOUS as well. I'm drooling just thinking about it :P. My mother was so happy that this place was just as she remembered it. It was not busy and quiet, just the way we like it. I hear a lot of people complain about the decorations and tables of the restaurant, you have to realize that these kind of places are not about upscale. Judge the food, not the environment. It was clean, a bit old but if I wanted upscale I would go somewhere else. This is just good ol' comfort food. I definitely will have to be making a trip to La Casita more frequently now. I can now say that it is worth the drive for me. Thank you La Casita, your food was absolutely delicious. Please don't ever change!

The food was good, but not spectacular. My main complaint is the service was slow, or almost non-existent. I was seriously confused as to how I would be seated. The waiter told me to pick a table, which is not a problem. After sitting for 5 minutes, I got up and indignantly grabbed my own menu from the front podium. I made sure to give the waiter my best glare-of-death while doing so. That apparently didn't make a difference because he continued to take forever with everything. Oh, and parking here sucks. Good guacamole, though!

  • Frances T.

They are known for the chicken and rice soup, which is quite good. unfortunately, I find most of the other food underseasoned and just average. They would get four stars, but their service is terrible. I've been several times, with different size groups at different times of the day and every time I get the impression that they are annoyed to have customers. Expect to have 3 visits to your table: once to order, once to bring your food, and once to bring the bill.

I loveeeeeeeeeeee La Casita!! I have been coming here since I was a little kid. While in town over the holidays I meet some good friends here for lunch. Service is very fast. Great fresh chips and salsa that keeps on coming. Tortilla soup is fantastic. We all ordered combos- I was a fatty and had a beef taco (soooo good), a pork tamale (tasty) and a chicken enchilada (Yummy) -the taco was the best but they all got some love. The beans and rice are so tasty and this corn meal thing tasted like a piece of heaven in my mouth. Food came very fast, was extremely hot and huge portions. I wasn't a total fatty and took some home (which was then destroyed by my dad). Now this is tasty -and makes me cry a little to think I'm in NYC and the Mexican food lacks in this city. La Casita my love.....I will see you again soon!

Meh. Store bought tortillas, guacamole, beef was tough, not at all worth 4 stars to go eat food I could open out of a jar at home for a lot less money. To top it all off the margarita was watery. That is the biggest tragedy!

  • Nelly H.

Terrible, terrible food. If you are looking for authentic, fresh and flavorful Mexican food this is not it! Americanized huge flavorless portions.... Rice not cooked properly, gummy beans. Burrito packed with bland shredded beef. Seafood enchiladas barely had any shrimp, mushy fish and no flavor.... Even the chips and salsa tasted store bought... And it's expensive to boot!

Their chicken and rice soup is to die for. So yummy. Their enchiladas aren't bad either. Their super burrito is enough to (almost) feed a family. And of course they make good margaritas. The service is always good hear and they make you feel like family.

Ate here twice. Great enchiladas. Nice salsa - but mild. If you want hotter sauce, ask. Service is polite, personal & fast. The prices are not expensive. A nice neighborhood Mexican place. Some good vegetarian options.

I was visiting my bf in Fremont and was craving mexican food so we decided to try this place. First, once you enter, it is a bit confusing as to where to go. My bf thought we had entered through some back door lol After feeling ignored for a minute we were finally seated. (Warning #1 Not a lot of hispanic people eating there. Mostly white people.) We got chips and salsa once we were seated and I was very disappointed with the salsa. It was very watered down. I dont really enjoy dipping my chip in a puddle of red water and little chunks of tomato. But, i wont complain too much since it was free. We ordered drinks and my margarita tasted like a virgin margarita. Bf was disappointed with his drink too. Once the food arrived my bf seem to enjoy his food. He said it wasnt too bad. I ordered the combo plate of an enchilada and chile relleno. The enchilada was very dry and hardly had any sauce. The chile relleno was just meh.. and the rice was very salty. Overall I did not enjoy this place. Maybe I'm just picky because I am Mexican and I expect good Mexican food when i go to a mexican restaurant. Would I go back? No.

After hearing about this little place tucked away in the old Irvington district of Fremont, I had the chance to dine here for dinner the other night. The outside looks like a little old Mexican building, with swooping white arches around the front. Once inside the smallish place, the wafting smell of good Mexican cooking assaults the senses. What is that smell? Onions? Garlic? We were eventually seated (even though we had made reservations earlier in the day). We had to ask the guy behind the front stand area twice about our table - "In a minute" he replied both times. We ended up asking a waiter about our table, and asked if we could sit there and wait- seeing how it was empty. The menu had all the typical Mexican dishes - enchiladas, burritos, fajitas. The back page was devoted to their signature margaritas, most in the $8-9 range. I went with the fajita combo (chicken and beef), and blue thunder margarita. After placing our order, it took maybe 30 minutes before the food arrived. When it did, my drink was nowhere to be found. Had to ask the waiter guy about it, and he said it was coming. The food? How can I best describe it? It's not "real" Mexican cooking- more like touristy Mexican food you'd find at a greasy diner in Tiajuana or in LA's Olivera Street. most of the entrees had a ton of refried beans (which looked canned to me), some very average tasting guacamole, and more of their watery salsa on the side. My beef and chicken fajitas had 2 pieces of beef and 1 chicken - none of them sliced. There were a ton of green bell peppers and onions- oh, and only 3 small tortillas to eat it all with. I sighed and took a big swig of my blue margarita. Mmmmmm.... tastes like it came from a bottle of premade mixed stuff (for $8?). All said, the service was lacking (had to ask several times for water refills, my missing drink, others had missing tortillas). The food itself was average at best, and I thought it was rather overpriced for what you got. I would've been better of hitting my favorite Taqueria instead - better food and cheaper too. Only 2 outta 5 stars from me - I doubt if I'll EVER be back anytime soon.

If you don't like La Casita... you are crazy!!! I have HIGH standards for Mexican food and La Casita is as good as it gets!! I've never been there when it was overwhelmingly busy (and we go a lot). Our service has always been great - we are seated quickly, served quickly and tended to throughout our meal. Starting with the chips and salsa - I love their salsa! I like the consistency which can be a little on the watery side but lots of veggies and just enough spice. I always end up eating too many chips and stuffing myself before I get my plate. Drinks? I like the Cadillac Margarita but they have a lot of different specialty drinks on the back of the menu ($7-$9). Their blended Strawberry Margarita is BOMB DOT COM!! I ALWAYS order the chicken enchilada dinner with red sauce. AMAZING!! Almost as amazing as their chicken and rice soup that could cure ANY ailment. When I'm sick? Chicken and rice soup. When I'm hungover? Chicken and rice soup. SO GOOD! I've also had their super burrito which was yummy and HUGE! Plus it was cheap LOL. Taco Tuesday we have their shredded pork tacos ($1!) which are another favorite! On the other hand, I tried a fish taco one time and it was just alright (I'm not a big fan of seafood Mexican). I find their prices are reasonable (two people can easily spend $30+) and their dinner combo plates are large. I'm always stuffed and taking home at least another meal. Well worth every penny spent!

I really like their chicken and rice soup, it is the best. The nachos are also very good, they use enchilada sauce on them, I believe, and it gives it a good flavor.

When I want to feel like I'm eating a home cooked meal, I eat at La Casita. The Chile Verde con Queso is amazing and I always get it with a side of veggies. The service there is very sweet and understanding, and they're always open to substituting items for me as I'm a vegetarian. The food here is warm, fresh, good quality, and comforting. Not to mention complimentary house made chips with salsa - super fresh and delicious. I love this place- it's definitely one of my favorite Bay Area restaurants so far.

there is such a thing as non-burrito/taco Mexican food establishment. Believe. *the combo plates: $10+, the plate is LARGE. (2 or 3 of these) - burrito?!, taco?!, enchilada, tostada rice & refried beans included. ++ Beef Enchilada - my favorite out of all the items i've tried **Fresh salsa (a little on the watery-side) and chips - conflicted because it's free and i'm not able to finish my combo plate because I eat too many chips. +/- Fajitas - i'll give it a shot next time. +/- Tempted to try their menudo. I really like menudo. maybe next time... +/- i've never had the chicken & rice soup. no comment. - i wish the overall price was slightly lower :/ - parking, not an easy task.

I haven't been to this place in years since I usually frequent the taqueria style Mexican food joints. If I'm too lazy to get up and place my order at the counter I will take the family to Chevy's. We went to Chevy's and the line was out the door so I decided to take the Familia to La Casita. I did a quick Yelp and saw that it got pretty good reviews. We went and waited a few minutes until we got a table. Once one was available we were sat down and immediately the grouchy guy that many mention came and asked for drink orders. We weren't ready yet and he left in somewhat of a huff and later came back. Other then that he was a great waiter and I don't think he is a grouch on purpose, maybe just his style. The chips and salsa came and kept coming as long as we were out, I was greatly impressed with the service and how often they came to refill drinks and chips and salsa. The salsa was a little watery, but each place has its own style and the flavor was good. We all ordered combos and some of us, made changes and the grouch didn't miss a beat. Usually when everyone orders something a little different then the menu has printed there always is some sort of screw up but not at this joint. Food came and was hot I mean really hot, so after it cooled down a little I went to work. I was impressed with the authentic style cooking and the flavors or everything on my plate. The key to a good Mexican joint is the beans and even more importantly is the rice, both of these passed the test with flying colors. Pricing was excellent, $2.00 for a drink is unheard of now a days and the 3 item combo was 11.95. I am glad that I refound this place and I definitely will be returning. Before I end my review I wanna state that I mentioned the grouch a few times, but he was an excellent waiter and seems like a guy I would slam a few drinks down with under other circumstances.

Service was fantastic! The BFF and I specifically drove out of our way to get to this restaurant. The place was packed with families. When we ordered, we ordered the combo plates. I ordered a tamale and an enchilada, the bff ordered a burrito and a taco. When the food arrived, I had gotten the wrong combo. It arrived with a taco and an enchilada, and I was just confused at why I had gotten that. I don't know whether I was tired and ordered that or whether the waiter heard me wrong, BUT he was nice enough to take it back and give me what I actually wanted. The bff didn't like his food very much, he said it wasn't authentic. The bathroom was SUPER clean and remodeled, I was quite impressed. +1 for ambiance +1 for service +1 for clean bathrooms that didn't really match the rest of the restaurant, but it was clean!!! I probably won't come back again, but purely because I'm not in the area.

Been coming here for over 20 years. The food is consistent and very good, grandmas recipe. I always leave here happy and the bar conversation is always entertaining (Efrin) I'm sticking with la casitas because it's legit! If it is your first time grab a cup of soup and either enchiladas or the al a Mexicana you will not be disappointed.

If you're expecting authentic mexican food, avoid this place. Once you walk in you see a whole bunch of senior citizen white people, which is probably why this place is still in business. I didn't see one mexican in this establishment, which is a telling sign the food will suck. Not only does the food suck, it's overprice. 9 bucks for "full size" "guacamole"?!? First off, the guacamole portion is TINY and it's not freshly made, tastes like some cheap store bought guacamole dip. And the Tex Mex nachos...let's just say this I prefer Taco bell Nachos over this place. Actually, I'd prefer Taco bell over anything in this place, at least it's cheaper. The only thing mexican in this restaurant is the imported modelo and dos equis.

I have been going to this restaurant for as many years as I can remember First as a kid with my parents, now I take my kids. The wait staff is consistent and does not change often. The chicken and rice soup is the best. The atmosphere is super casual and certainly not fancy but the food is amazing. Carnitas, chili verde, chicken tacos, all of it the best.

I'm a big mexican food buff so the reason I only gave 3 stars is because it is a typical authentic restaurant. Which is good! But other than that nothing really stuck out for me. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, which actually was better than expected. My only issue was the whole plate was covered in cheese and I asked for light cheese. Well I guess I had that coming lol. Overall, l would recommed this place to someone who likes the real deal... and cheese ;)

This place has been around since I was a kid (literally). I've been going since I was a kid too. Still run by the original family (whom also owns the land/parking lot around it) & it shows. If you like continuity in your service and food, this is the mexican place for you! If you enjoy a warm atmosphere where the regulars have been going for years, this is the place. My favorites are: taquitos, enchiladas, tacos & the best chile rellenos!! Full bar w/the football/baseball games on 2 tvs (small bar, but fun). Gets very crowded on Fridays!

I have been going to La Casita for years and it is hands down the absolute BEST Mexican restaurant. We have yet to find a better salsa and their sauce on every dish is just amazing! I cant find enough adjectives to describe how wonderful this place is. Also, the staff.. just the nicest! We hold all others up to these guys and no one comes close!

This place was one of my favorite restaurants in Fremont. The food is ok. San Jose would be my destination for good mexican food. The service has also declined from when it was half it's current size. The value is average. The chile colorado sauce is very good and is one of my favorite dishes at La Casita.

My favorite Mexican restaurant. but I'm biased. Like a handful of other yelpers, this is the place I went growing up. And not much has changed. Same decor since the 80s (although they upgraded to the white tile on the walls in the 90s...) I recommend heading over to the bar if there's a long wait. Who doesn't need a little divy-esque experience every now and then? It's super tiny with two televisions for sports watching. Usually the bar is filled with regulars, which makes for great people watching. When I went, a few were sluring a bit, but having a good time, which made for a more interesting adventure. Someone bought the bar a round, and who can not have a good time when that happens? The bartender was great. Super fast and friendly. You can even order food at the bar, and they they give you chips and salsa while you wait. I have no idea what the deep red (w/o chunks) salsa is called, but it's awesome. Not too spicy, but really flavorful. Once you're seated (or ordering at the bar) make sure you get a bowl of the chicken and rice soup. It is delicious. Probably my favorite soup in the world. A tomato/chicken broth base, with shredded chicken, broken rice, and some secret seasoning (probably S&P). It still tastes excellent after all these years! I highly recommend adding a few of their chips into the soup... get them slightly soggy and gobble them up. that's probably another childhood throwback. I also think they have the best tacos around. There's something about the cheese on top and the big slide of tomato on the inside. Most other tacos are super greasy. Not these ones. They are just crisp and flavorful. I always opt for the #5 combo: beef enchilada and taco, and I pay extra for chicken on the taco. And they don't completely drown the enchiladas in sauce. I love their sauce, but like to actually taste the other flavors of the meal; something other restaurants don't let me enjoy. The plate is served extra hot with really good refried beans, and fluffy/tasty/tomatoy rice. My friend ordered the chili verde and was a little sad that it matched to the description: pork with green chilies. He was hoping for a green chili sauce. He still gobbled it up and said it was good. Dinners are typically under $10 apiece. We had two dinners and two drinks for under $40 (including tip).

I loveee La Casita, I've been going here since I was baby. Firstly, the tamales are the bomb. But the other things that are great, are the freshly made tortilla chips and salsa, and also the Chicken and Rice soup is the bomb. Oh and the beans are really really good. The waiters and waitresses there are very kind..excpect the grumpy old man, but hey, he's kool anyways. Definetley go to this place. D LISH!

Let's see... I've lived in Fremont, Modesto, Manteca, Chico and Sacramento and NOTHING has ever come close to La Casita! The staff is always super friendly and the food is always outstanding! Try the shredded beef chimichanga! Soooo good! :)

I have been going to La Casita since 1976. I once lived in Fremont, now I drive from Pleasanton in pick up the chicken and rice soup! Great food great people and best of all the price is right!! So if you want great mexican food at a great price this is the place.

  • Suavecito m.

La Casita is the best sit down Mexican restaurant in Fremont hands down. The soup is legendary and well worth the price of an entree itself. The wait staff has been largely the same for years and yes the Old Man can be frustrating at times and has his moments but only on rare occasions. The Fajitas are excellent but I think their signature plate is their red and green enchiladas which are excellent. Green enchiladas , enchiladas "suizas" or "verde" are hard to find and good ones are even harder to find and this place has the best ones in the area.

Great restaurant and Great Service!!! I visited the restaurant for the first time last month. Since then I have been back 3 times. I recommend this restaurant to any one who loves mexican food and a good margarita. Try the fish tacos. They rock!!!!! I just wish they would remodel the dining room. It looks like it hasn't been done for many years.

We live right around the corner from la Casita, so we probably get food for take out more than we actually go in and sit down. The menu is pretty much like any other Mexican food that you can find and most mexican restaurants. I highly recommend the Chicken & Rice soup....it is really really good. As another reviewer commented, I do have pity on you if you get the "Grumpy Old Man" as your waiter. We have had him a few times, you can sure tell when he is not having a good day. Please dont let that detract from going there, they do have tasty food. Oh, getting a refill on your drinks can take time....so be patient

We've been served by that same old grumpy man ourselves many times. Other than that, the food's pretty good.

I've been coming here for years and have never had a disappointing meal at La Casita. There is a wonderful neighborhood feel to this restaurant and it is not at all uncommon to run into old friends or neighbors while enjoying lunch or dinner. The salsa served with our chips was fresh and spicy without packing too much heat. Their combination entrees are a good deal $7.95 for a single item, $8.95 for two, and $9.95 for three items with just $1 extra for soup or salad. I ordered the three item combination with flautas, beef enchilada, and tamale, and my friend also had the three item combination with flautas, chicken enchilada, and chile relleno. We each started with the chicken and rice soup, which was tasty but consists mostly of rice with stringy bits of chicken. Our combos were enormous and there was no way either of us could eat more than half, everything was wonderful although I probably won't order the tamale in the future as the masa just didn't taste quite right. Overall I love this restaurant for the warm and homey feeling I get as I walk through the door. One thing I can say to anyone who comes to La Casita you definitely won't leave hungry.

I have been eating at this restaurant for 12+ years and I love it. Everything is delicious and I LOOOOOOVE the chips and salsa. This is my favorite restaurant above any. Great food, great service. Thank you Fremont CA

La Casitas service is horrible. My family and I went there for dinner and our drinks remained empty through out the whole dinner. We only got the first drink and that was it. The same with the chips & salsa. We only seen our waiter twice. Then we decided to order and pick up our food, but that didn't even work either b/c when you order the guy kept rushing and every time we got our order, it was wrong. I stopped ordering from this place when i tried La Pinata on Paseo Padre Blvd.

  • Anne A.

When I walked in the door I should have turned around and left but I was with 3 others. It seems a bit on the dirty side. The salsa was a bizarre consistency but the favor was ok. I ordered the fish taco w/rice and beans. All very average and not worth going back for me

  • Shari D.

I know people like this place, but I've never had any food that stood out in my mind. It's pretty mediocre. The service is okay, but not super friendly, either. We still come out here a lot of group lunches, but it's not my favorite Mexican food in Fremont.

    (2)
  • Victoria R.

I agree with Shari; there are better places you can go to for Mexican food. To be honest, I don't think its very good, though some of coworkers might think so.... i guess that's why I only go there during group lunches. It always smells like lemon lysol when we arrive.

My favorite mexican restaurant in Fremont is La Casita; however, I can't say why, it just seems the most authentic. When we have a craving for fajitas, this is the place to go. The combo fajitas (chicken, steak, shrimp) are the best deal. Compared to fajitas at chain restaurants like Chili's, you get a bigger portion & is a good value. The service is impersonal most of the time but I don't know many Mexican restaurants that are any different so I overlook it.

Ok so I am pretty picky when it comes to Mexican Food, but this place is really good. Good Menudo, good Carne asada, even the rice and beans are good. I really have no compaints. I recommend this restaurant highly.

I've been going to La Casita on and off over the years. The food is so-so, but beyond the food, I want to comment on the awful service that we received last week. Our waiter, an older guy, who seemed like he didn't want to be there and/or needed to retire, was so rude. He asked us if we wanted soup or salad, but it wasn't included with the meal. Usually, waiters ask if we want to add a salad, but he made it sound like it was included. Also, he didn't ask me what type of meat I wanted for my enchilada. After he took my order, I realized that he hadn't asked, so after he went to the kitchen to place the order, I had to stop him and ask if I had a choice. When he brought our food, he threw (placed) our plates on the table and roughly gave the tortilla warmer to my aunt. He never refilled our drinks or came back to ask us if we wanted anything else. In fact, when he brought the bill, he didn't thank us. Although I've gone to La Casita over the years, I won't go back again. The food is okay, but not worth the bad service.

  • Kelly C.

La Casita has been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants for years. I always get the chicken chimichanga plate and it's wonderful every time. The rice and beans can make or break a Mexican restaurant for me and their's are perfect. My favorite thing about La Casita is their guacamole. It's a little pricey, but I always get it to go with my chips cause it's the best guac I've ever had. Whenever I make a 7 layer dip, I pick up a pint of their guacamole and a big bag of chips (and they give you the chips for free when you buy a pint of guac).

    (5)
  • Victor B.

i got the super burrito with shredded beef and enchilada sauce. that sauce made the burrito. it was enormous. the cadillac margarita wasn't too bad either. pretty manly margarita if you ask me. the burrito though wasn't amazing, but the atmosphere is great and the service is solid. thats why its 4 stars and not tres.

  • Ryan A.

I've been going here since I was a small little tike. Family own chain that makes fresh Mex not like the other shitters out there like El Patio. La Casita has the best fresh rice & beans in town, and their tacos de Carne esda is my go to dish.

    (4)
  • Kelly R.

Hands down my all time favorite Mexican restaurant of all time. A fremont cornerstone. The chicken rice soup is the BEST! Guacamole made from scratch- it's not fancy by any means- but nevertheless amazing. I always get chicken enchiladas.

  • Kimberly K.

My friend brought me here and I've never noticed this place before because it just looks like a normal residential house, haha. When I first walked in, it was like a little dim hut with some tables and booths. I was seated and got some chips, salsa, and guacamole. Both of the dips were above average; I liked the guac more though. The menu's prices are actually pretty good, because in return you get huge portions. I had tacos and the rice that came with it was probably the best Mexican rice I've had. I kinda wish my tortillas weren't fried because they get tough when they get cold. Next time I'll probably get enchiladas or something.

  • Julie F.

Uhhh not sure why this place gets such high reviews. I personally thought the food was just alright. I ordered the spicy garlic shrimp fajitas and when it finally arrived it just looked and tasted like shrimp with red sauce on top. My bf ordered some carne asada plate and the meat was bland and super over cooked. YUCK. Service here is pretty bad too - we had to ask for salsa like 3 times before anyone brought out a small measly bowl for our group of 10. uhhh...and when we were eating (not even half way through) the bus boy kept coming over and asking if we wanted boxes. No one ever came back to check to see how our food was or asked if we needed more drinks or refill on the tortillas.

  • Vicki W.

I came to this place because someone recommended it. The chips and salsa kept on coming. I got pretty full off of that, but the entree I ordered still tasted delightful. I got a seafood enchilada. It came with rice and beans, which I love. Supposedly their soups are veryyyyyy good. I didn't get to try it, but thats what my boyfriend's aunt and cousin love there. It's not too pricey, but there definitely are a lot of choices.

    (3)
  • Joanna A.

The chicken and rice soup here is the best! Also their chips and salsa are great and they constantly refill them. This is a small, family owned restaurant that has been around for some time. Understand that you are not eating at a chain restaurant.

  • Nicole J.

I've been going here for years! And I still order the same thing every time. Small bowl of arroz con pollo and half order of the chicharron especial! And every time...it is on point! This is my favorite Mexican spot. The food just tastes like home.

    (4)
  • Mike M.

For a long time I have been searching for a restaurant that served a platter of Chicharrones, and I found the perfect place! La Casita in Fremont is a Godsend! The quality of the platter with generous portions of deep fried Chicharrones, refried beans, sauteed onions and jalapeno peppers makes for an excellent meal, especially when paired with an ice cold beer! I have tried the platter five times and never have been disappointed! The atmosphere is buzzing in the bar, and pretty much quiet in the dining room, but of course, when good food is served, people tend to stay quiet and enjoy their meals.

  • Greg G.

Mexican restaurants are very popular in the Bay Area, but finding one that serves great food is hard to find. They serve you generous portion after giving salsa and chips during the wait. The soups and salads are great and the entrees are very good. They also have a full bar with TVs. I would recommend this place to anybody.

    (4)
  • Chris B.

I gave this place an extra star only because its family owned, good food, flavors are decent.. but everything tastes almost exactly the same here.. just different variations in the layout. The chicken soup is very good though. It's one of the only reasons I would actually go here. Def a fan of the soup.

    (4)
  • Mo W.

I had the chicken tortilla soup, it was delicious. Pretty standard, satisfies the craving for soup! It's also great to have when your sick. I saw what my friends got, and there portions were huge! And they ate most of it, so it must have been delicious!

    (3)
  • Kaysha H.

The service here is usually pretty good, and the food is usually pretty tasty, so I don't have any complaints. I really love their soup when I'm sick, and it's fairly enjoyable otherwise. I used to love coming here for my Spanish class field trip from Irvington. Always have great chips and salsa.

  • Jennea R.

I think I have been going here since I was born. Actually, before I was even officially born I've been going here. I love the homey feel of La Casita. I also always seem to have the same waiter... the older man that works there... Some people call him "grumpy", but he is very nice and funny. :) And I am pretty picky all types of food (especially Mexican food) and this place is great. I always get the tamales and the rice soup because it is the best I have ever had anywhere! Love this place and will continue going to it for a long time!

    (5)
  • Kelly B.

Super delicious. Got a beef taco and pork chimichanga. The pork was amazing, flavorful, tender and moist. Highly recommend. The chips were sub par to me, but honestly that's for the best so I didn't eat more. The dinner was more than enough food. The servers were all so nice and made sure to keep water and salsa full and were offering more chips.

  • Bonnie S.

YUM Mexican food! I've driven past this place many times but never noticed it until now. I haven't had much Mexican food lately so La Casita definitely satisfied my Mexican food cravings. They give you a bowl of warm nachos with salsa to snack while you order, which was nice. The entrees are pretty gigantic and very filling, we couldn't finish it at all and had to take it home. Plus it all beans and tortillas and rice anyways...We ordered the carne asada tacos plate, the seafood taco plate, and another beef plate. The beef plate was just okay, the meat was pretty tough. Otherwise the tacos were good! Quite large with a heaving addition of rice, beans, and guac.

Ok once again this place makes a mean Margarita and also one of the Best COBB salads I have ever had. My sister and I stopped by Sunday afternoon for margarita and something quick to split . Too late lunch and early for dinner . Saw some friends at the bar and decided to sit there and split something . We got a half order ( next time suggest full order since so good ) of the Cobb Salad and it was fabulous. grilled chicken , shrinp, bacon , avacado , beets it was loaded with fresh goodies and best flavor ever . I actually would drive from San Jose to get this salad again. Big Irvington High alumni hang out also . Fun place to go to reunite with friends and get a really decent meal :) love this place again and again

This restaurant has been around since as far back as I can remember. Good comforting food. The chicken soup is the BEST! Doesn't get any better than La Casita chicken soup. I wouldn't say the food is the best in Fremont but its up there 7 out of 10. Good portions, fresh, hot and comforting. But the soup 10 out of 10.

I think this place is decent. The food is little bit bland, and the salsa is watery. The service was good at least.

  • Lola N.

We came here for lunch after we were told that this is "the best Mexican food in Fremont." I really hope not. Maybe at one time it was, but not any more. I would label the food here as average, at best. The place is old and it smells like an old house. Most of the tables were empty, yet service was slow. The chips were average, and the salsa was more of a pico de gallo than a nice, good salsa. My brother ordered a margarita, and although I didn't take a sip of it, he said it was weak and not mixed well. I ordered the combo - chicken enchilada and beef taco with no lettuce. They got my order right. Yay! The enchilada was good and the refried beans were great! The beef taco was not good because there was a strange after-taste to the beef. I thought that was weird, so I only took two bites and left the rest. The rice was below average...just not much flavor at all. Not sure if I would come here again... Maybe if I was starving, in the area, and didn't have any other options.

The tamales are good. The staff and especially the owner are not welcoming and rarely smile. It's a decent Mexican restaurant .

  • Liu H.

La Casita is pretty cool guy. eh sells delicious chicken soup and doesn't afraid of anyone. Also, try the Camarones a La Casita and ask for avocados on the side. If you're with someone who doesn't mind sharing, have them order the Enchiladas and you two can mix both dishes together. And for people who complain about crappy service, ask to be seated with Richard, Oscar or Luis, in that order. Your service is bad because you probably got seated with Jose (The only waiter who appears to be above the age of 30). He has more responsibilities than the rest of the waiters so his service isn't always where it should be.

  • Erin K.

La Casita, Congratulations, you get my first 4.5. Your deliciously crispy and perfectly fried chips crunch, and then melt, in my mouth. Your salsa is fresh and has just the right amount of spice without making me want to rip my tongue out. Again, nicely done. As a customer, you definitely have to be careful what you order here, as it can swiftly and completely change your opinion of this restaurant. First things first -- this is a rule that I adhere to, and have adhered to, since my initial experience dining here: Do not order off the a la carte menu. Just don't do it, okay? Meals I strongly advocate ordering: *Seafood Enchiladas *Seafood Soup *Okay, really anything off the seafood menu, except the surf and turf *Fajitas *Gibo Special I am probably an anomaly in that I don't really enjoy Mexican rice / beans, so because I rarely to never eat them, and wouldn't like them even if I did, I can't remark on their pro's or con's. My boyfriend, however, gives the rice two thumbs up. The beans are just "meh" The meals are a bit on the pricier side for Mexican food ($10-$20), so be prepared for that. Also, it gets LOUD and BUSY here on weekend nights -- and naturally, service slows down because of it. So if you're coming with a hot date, maybe you should play it safe and bring him/her on a weeknite instead. Not a romantic atmosphere, but a great place to bring the kids. They can run around like wild banshees, and no one will even blink an eye.

the food is disgusting. It is a nice restaurant and a nice location but it needs a new chef.

    (1)
  • Marja M.

My family has been coming to this restaurant, as memory serves, for nigh on 40 years. It has always been reliable, inexpensive and pretty tasty. I recently ordered their Gibo Special which didn't work out for me, but went back two nights later and had their chimichanga, which was great! Cannot state strongly enough how much I love their chicken and rice soup. Restorative indeed. A lot of people mention the grumpy waiter. And while it's true that his demeanor is dour, my brother has made it his mission to soften him, and for us, it seems to have worked. I see him smile on a regular basis now! Oh, and while they historically don't take reservations, when I called a couple of weeks ago, on a chance, to make a reso for 11 people, they took it!

I have always known of La Casita. Growing up in Fremont and always hearing about it from people; but I just never been till tonight. Uncle took my sister and I here for dinner. When we first got in, I loved the inside of the restaurant - very homey and warm feeling. The service was decent here, apparently my uncle comes here a lot so most of the staff greeted him and chatted it up. First, the chips and salsa dip here is yummy! Next up, I tried a sip of the chicken and rice soup - absolutely delicious. For dinner, I ordered 2 enchiladas, chicken, one red and one green. Overall, great dish - enchiladas, rice, and beans were all very good. Good food, good service, nice and homey feeling. When I'm in Fremont, I might have to give up my usual spot at Mission Jarrito to try out the rest of the food here at La Casita.

Today my Family and I had lunch at La Casita in Fremont. It was the first time in many visits (25 plus years) that we actually disliked a meal and returned my Sons Lunch. Disappoiting Experience: My Son's (10 years) plate was extremely HOT, a little surprise that they would allow a Childs Meal to go out on a plate that was extremely HOT. After waiting a few seconds for it to cool down, my son asked if he could please have a plate to transfer his food. But after taking a bite of his Quesadilla ( a Flour Tortilla and Cheese only), he says to us "this has a really bad taste". Sure enough my Husband and I take a bite and it taste spoiled. We returned the meal but, my son refused to order anything else. After my Husband and I ate a 1/3 of our meal we found that our meals (Super Chicken Burrito and Chorizo and Eggs with flour Tortilla), specifically the tortillas were STALE! One side of my tortilla is browned and raw on the other ( I know the tortillas probably are purchased/pre-cooked ) and it seemed to be thrown in the little tortilla warmer (not that really is important). So odd! The ingredients of our meals tasted old! Not finishing our meals we politely asked for our check and advised the waitress of our disappointment. She apologized. Never had a bad meal at La Casita, but I don't think we will be going back. As least for a while.

This is an interesting place...you wouldn't think of going here unless like us, your are looking to try new places to eat in. They have some nice the large murals up on the wall but everything else right from the service is mediocre. As another reviewer noted, the population that keeps this place going are the older, white demographic who come on a regular basis. Coming to the food, I liked the chips just because they were warm and the only selling point was the hot sauce. Vegetarians can keep out of this place since these people do not even know such a sub species exists among the human race! All the food is overcooked and the only veggies on my plate were potatoes and simply horrendously overcooked bell peppers. The beans was alright. The saving grace was the fact that the food was at least piping hot.

  • K S.

This place is pretty good. They are a little small, so they can get very busy. The food is not bad, it's better than some places and can be worse than others. I've tried to go in here couple times, but they're been wayyyy too busy and the wait is too long. Overall, good food if you're willing to wait and be patient with what seems like slower service, but it's only because they're so busy.

Spanish teacher, Senora Mitchell, brought my friends and I here in high school. Seems like a family own. Portions are big, service is very nice, and their chicken tortilla soup is awesome. To this day, still like coming here.

Very good gringo mex. For best results, sit at the bar. Shrimp cocktail is very good (served warm) but otherwise stay away from the fish. Everything else is as expected.Tamales are much better than average, but my advice is to not get too adventurous. However they do the classics very well. Salsa's good, but you have to ask for their salsa verde. Chicken soup is good if dressed up with some of their red salsa.

Maybe it's me. But they are not as good any longer We were oing to La Casita before they expanded the house they are in and had parking, they were always 5 stars. The other day my wife and I went, service was good, but the chips were stale as if held over from the night before. We were in for an early lunch, so I suspect what was laying around in the kitchen got used. My food which I always get the same thing, surprised me. It wasn't the same, it was tasteless and the rice I suspect was old. The place also seemed dirty, or maybe the lights were on. We will try again, and see if it was just a bad day, or a trend they are on. I would give them two stars, but feel they could not have fallen that far off their game.

I was excited to try this place, but maybe my expectations were too high or we just didn't order the right thing, but this place fell a little flat for me. Even the bf who's a Mexican food connoisseur wasn't impressed. I ordered my standard chicken enchiladas but they just looked so...blah. And weren't that flavorful in general :( The service was good though and everyone was really friendly. We did like the atmosphere so maybe we'll give this place another try?

Came here for my mom's birthday last night. Already liked the place, but now I'd say it's love. Called them up to make a reservation (a rarity these days!) and they took it and cheerfully told me they'd see me that night. We arrived at 5:30 on the dot and were taken to our table immediately, no need to wait for the rest of our party (another rarity). The table was set up and there were ice waters ready and waiting for us, obviously freshly set out. Within seconds of sitting down, chips and salsa appeared. Good chips and salsa, I might add. Orders were taken and the food was out in no time at all. Everyone was quite pleased with their food. Just really solid, tasty Mexican food. Like going over to someone's house. They also let me know when they were bringing out the cake, while some places just spring it on you. It let me add the special candles I'd brought, and they even turned off the lights while we sang. Really a great night, and good prices too. 8 people ate for much cheaper than I thought it would have been. Definitely need to come back more.

A co-worker took me here. She said she's been coming here for years and that its family owned. She specifically came here to have the chicken soup, which I had the same. It was so delicious. She said other things on the menu were really good. So I'll be updating this in the near future. So far so good with the chicken soup though. =)

Went to La Casita for a friend's party. Layout is odd- not sure really where parking is. Pro's: Great salsa- very fresh! Chips are not bad! Rice was good. Con's: Just a really odd layout inside. Pina Colada not good. Dinner was ok at best- not really that tasty but not bad either.

I adore this place and despite my policy to lay off on reviewing places that have more than 10 or so reviews, I feel that it is my duty to provide a review for La Casita. The first time I came here was in 1998 for lunch when I went to highschool in the area. My then boyfriend took me here exclaiming how it was the best mexican food in the area---and for the past 11 years they have never let me down. The restaurant is extremely humble and from the outside (and to be frank, interior as well) it doesn't look like much, but you feel like you're part of the family once you are seated. The drinks are strong---the cadillac margarita on the rocks is fantastic, the food is incredible----HUGE fan of the Shrimp Anejos (this could be the wrong name---its shrimp doused in garlic and butter), and I love the casual air of this place I hope to be able to review it again 10 years from now...

Ive been coming here since I was in my 20's and am still a fan! I love that their food is so fresh. Im absolutely in love with their chicken & rice soup - thats all I need is just a big bowl and Im good. I have had their burritos, enchiladas, tacos, nachos...all oh so very tasty. If youve never been here youll notice that theres not much parking out front, so just drive down the street a bit until you see a pet hospital, turn right and park there - theres plenty of parking. Watch out for small bones you might find in your chicken (good sign that theyre using fresh chicken) my son chomped on one in his chicken enchilada. Be sure to check their whiteboard for their specials.

taco, chile relleno, rice and beans= made well. chicken soup= it's okay, but it would taste much better to get it when you are feeling a lil under the weather.

Highly recommend the Tuesday Taco's. They are one of the best pork Taco's I've ever tasted and I don't care for pork. Great bartender Efren who makes awesome strawberry margaritas.

This is the place I go for Mexican food...unless I'm really on the cheap or in a hurry, then it's the La Perla taco truck ( yelp.com/biz/la-perla-fr… ) by the old King's Inn by the car wash. Try the chicharrones plate. With red sauce or without (smothered in onions and peppers...also called the "Ronny Morris" special). Took me five years before I "discovered" that meal. Was always having a combo, chile verde, or shrimp...now, it's the chicharrones for me But, everything is good there. Well, except the salad...seems like bagged iceberg with a beet or two. Go for the soup instead. Oher than that, never had a bad meal. I try to make it there at least once a week.

The chicken and rice soup is so good. I need to go back soon. It has been too long since I was there... I will need to drag my husband to try this place. He is not crazy Mexican food but he needs to try the soup :)

The best Mexican food in Fremont or even all of East Bay! The people who work there are very nice and the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend this place. Just beware, it is often very busy.

I went here a couple nights ago after not going here in ages. I remember going here when I was little with my parents ALL the time. It was still like I remember it. The food is alright. Not the best mexican food ever, but good enough to satisfy your craving for Mexican food. The chicken & rice soup is simply delicious. Definitely worth the extra $2 to order it. There is not much to it, but it hits the spot. I have had drinks here too (margaritas), and those are cool. The service here is great, though. Our water glasses were always filled, chips and salsa replenished, and all without even asking. That's important to me. I would go here again when in the mood for some Mexican.

Here is my review: Atmosphere - 5 stars - clean and cozy Service - 5 stars - Had our food in 10 minutes and didn't have to ask for refills on soda. The server was on top of it. Food - 5 stars - tasted fresh and very authentic. Probably the best Mexican food I've eaten at any restaurant. Prices - 5 stars - had a HUGE meal for around $10 bucks I would definitely go back here.

Love the homey feel. Prices are very reasonable. Consistently delicious, though not amazing. Does not let me down. Great sides (chips, salsa, rice, beans) recommended meal: any of the quesadillas + horchata

Definitely a breath of fresh air! Located near Washington Blvd, La Casita is a non-descript looking building but inside it's a very lively joint. We went on Friday night and it was not very busy but there were definitely happy patrons at the bar and inside the restaurant. The menu is very eclectic and although typical Mexican fare, they have a lot of house specialties. They have a great drink selection with some delicious margaritas. We had the "holy frijoles" appetizer which was awesome but obviously artery clogging. For dinner we had steak fajitas, Gibo Special (chicken, potatoes, cheese, rice) and something else I forget the name, but it was a house dish, and it was chicken topped with fire roasted poblano peppers and cheese, and paired with rice as well. The rice is AWESOME! in that it's a little crisp, a little spicy, and very fluffy. The chicken is also to die for - Very flavorful, like a lime/garlic mix, and also very healthy (no skin! not fried!). Some may call it dry but I loved it. And the potatoes & cheese from the gibo special were sooo good! Our waiter was super attentive and very very nice. An older gentleman, I didn't catch his name, but he obviously cared about us and didn't just think of us as another potential tip (like some waiters do). I'll definitely be back!

HOMEMADE CHICKEN SOUP and a sitdown restaurant that serves enormous proportions PLUS all you can eat Chips/Salsa? Here's a secret dudes, take a girl on a hike to Mission Peak and then come to this restaurant. Solid Gold.

If I was forced to eat Chips and Salsa for the rest of my life, I would Gladly sacrifice my taste buds if it could be the chips and salsa from La Casita. (I will admit, that it is not authentic, but it reminds me of places I have loved in LA). Happened to come here after a long haitus due to its distance from my home, but DAYAM! I forgot how fresh and tasty their food was. My Bf and I ordered some traditional combo plates with a taco, enchilada, and beans and rice. I really like the way they make their beans. Pass on the burritos though, they are nothing to write home about. Service was spotty, but the waiters looked like they were trying to do their best given the ongoing influx.

Don't get me wrong on this review, I'm NOT a hater of authentic mexican food. I just feel the ingredients used at this restaurant are severely subpar. I've been here once with some co-workers, the rice I ordered had several hairs lodged in it--I gave it back to the waiter. He took it around the corner, and I saw him take the hairs out with his hand, and he brought it right back. Never going back there again. 0/5 stars.

I love this place. I have been here a couple times, and every time their service is impeccable. They never let me down with the quick refills of chips/salsa without me even having to ask! The salsa is amazing, the sangria is awesome, and the chile verde is my absolute favorite. Would definitely recommend.

Healing qualities in their soup!!! It kinda reminds me of arroz caldo, but a little tomato-ey. Very good on a cold day or when you feel like you're getting sick. The nachos are sooo delish. I love how they put enchilada sauce on them!!! I enjoyed the shrimp fajitas... they came out piping hot and the portions were really hearty. The menu states that they have $5 margaritas??? I gotta go back and try that for sure. The service was superb. The owner was so friendly and so were the servers. The food and the service just backs up the reason why they've been in business for 40 years!!! Its easy to pass this place up, since it looks like a house tucked away in GOOD OL' Irvington! But now that I know where this place is, I'm pretty happy. They are in the neighborhood too which is a plus for me. I've already been here twice and I plan on going here all the time to succumb to my soup & nacho cravings. (Oh yeah and to check out those $5 margaritas!!!)

I went here and was not disappointed. It's classic, old-fashioned Mexican food. The service was good. However, I have to say that the noise level was very high - too high. This and the slightly too high level of saltiness will probably keep me from returning, although I can see the appeal. Great place for families with young children.

Whenever I'm in the mood for authentic Mexican food, La Casita is one of the only places I'd ever consider to get my fix. I've come to this restaurant for the past few years, and I feel that every visit was worth my time. The waiters here are always friendly and seating usually doesn't take THAT long. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place is located on a main street, and the parking situation is a little awkward. Sometimes you're forced to park pretty far, and the place can get REALLY busy during lunchtime hours. However, the food makes it all worth while. I've ordered a wide array of their food, and it's always turned out excellent. I'd easily spend WAY too much money on food here, since I feen for almost everything on their menu. I personally recommend the chicken enchiladas, which is one of my absolute favorites here. Every time I come here, there's usually a big group or family having lunch or dinner, so in case you're wondering, it's a pretty good place for big groups. If you're in the neighborhood, and are in the mood for good authentic Mexican food, then definitely give La Casita a try.

Went back last night and I still have to give it 5 stars. had a great cup of chicken/rice soup (so basic but so good for some reason) and a "top shelf" burrito witch chicken. It was big, juicy and delicious. Only complaint I have is that the menu says the top shelf burrito is smothered in mole... it was really more like enchilada sauce. Though I understand mole just means sauce I had been hoping for a nice dark mole negro, no such luck.

Went here last night on the suggestions from fellow Yelpers. To be completely honest...not that great. The services was mediocre, the food was okay, and restaurant itself was outdated and felt a little dingy. I ordered the Chile Verde. The meat was actually really good, however I did find one nasty piece mixed in (skin and blood vessels)...ick! The flavor was good and the pork was tender. The re-fried beans were average and the rice was pretty soggy. I think it was $12 so not cheap, but not ridiculously expensive either. A couple interesting notes: - My friend got a glass of sangria and she said it was about as bad as any she'd ever had. It tasted like pre-made sangria mix poured into a glass of ice. - The bathrooms were a huge shock. Very clean, recently modeled with granite counters Kohler toilets (there the best BTW) and nice new tile floors and wall tile. Completely different than the rest of the place....weird.

La Casitas is one of those places that only locals know about, who's popularity spreads through word of mouth over time. I say this because driving by you'd never ever notice the place, just see a constant hustle of people coming and going to what looks like a residential street. My girlfriend took me here over a year ago, I remember my first time walking inside, I felt like I had walked into an underground tavern for people who start drinking around noon. She assured me that she has been eating at La Casitas for over 5 years, it's worth the seedy vibe. I didn't know what to expect but she is very into Mexican culture and taught me all she knows about tequila. I've only ever had one thing to eat off there menu. It's one of those places, where you discover a little piece of Heaven on Earth that's just all you need. The top shelf burrito. I can honestly taste the 'wet sauce' in my mouth at this very second. It will be burned into my brain forever, it's just that yummy. The meat is fresh, I get this thing fully loaded...sour cream, rice, beans, guacamole, salsa, cheese, and carnitas. I can only ever eat half and it reheats perfectly, just heat it in the oven for 10 minutes on 350 degrees. I always have the best leftovers because literally that very night I'm already craving that 'wet sauce' again.

After a hot day in the sun, my fiance and I were craving for some chevalas. We decided to have dinner at La Casita. We were seated the minute we walked in but the wait to order our drinks/food took FOREVER. We even placed our menus on the edge of the table to make sure we were noticed. I had the soft steak tacos and the fiance had the super burrito. Both items came out steaming hot. Overall, the food was good. Our chevalas was good and STRONG! We don't mind coming back here again ... just hope we can order our food sooner the next time around....

Growing up in Texas, I love mexican food - though I warn you, that this review comes from the perspective of a vegetarian. I've eaten at tons of different mexican restaurant, and there are many nice ones in the bay area. this is not one of them. the chips were greasy (almost dripping with oil it felt) and the salsa quite bland. The sauce used with the enchiladas had almost no taste. My entire group regretted coming here and complained about the lack of taste of the food. The service was okay - not particularly great or bad. There are better in Fremont than this place.

Driving to this restaurant was slightly confusing at first because #1: there was a fair going on down the street and some roads were blocked off and #2: Fremont Blvd turns into Washington and the restaurant suddenly disappeared! The outside of the restaurant is very traditional looking and because of the blinds, you can't really peek into the interior which also explains the slightly dim lighting. We got there on a Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. and the restaurant was 75% full. Once you enter, there's a semi-enclosed bar on your right. A server immediately brought out a basket of warm tortilla chips and mildy spicy salsa. The chips were very crunchy and the salsa was delicious, not too spicy not too bland. Not long after, the waitress came out and I ordered an Enchilada/Flautas Combination ($8.75). After about 20 minutes (a bit longer than desired but reasonable considering how packed the restaurant was), my piping hot plate came out. Every item on my plate was topped with cheese, just the way my lactose tolerant body likes it. Normally I love refried beans but these were too dry and I didn't even eat half of the portion. Portions were huge by the way (I only finished half my plate and still felt like a beached whale). The one beef enchilada sauce was unique and full of flavor, not spicy. There were two beef flautas were very crunchy and unlike many other flautas I've had, they weren't oily at all. The rice was moist and mixed with shredded cheese (instead of topped). Bathrooms were not particularly the cleanest but I didn't expect them to be. I'd make a return visit if I was in the area and if I'm extremely famished! When it comes to Mexican food, I take pride in paying the least amount possible! **UPDATED 2/23/08: Went here on a Saturday night with about 9 other friends and the wait took FOREVER! It was so bumpin' there. I was so hungry that I ate an entire basket of chips by myself and the salsa was super spicy. For my main dish, I got the seafood enchiladas and I enjoyed it a lot. There is definitely more shrimp than fish in it but the green sauce is refreshing. The beans and rice were also well cooked this time... much better than my last visit. I changed my rating from 3 to 4 because it was good and you can definitely tell by the large crowds.

One of my favorite places to go after a hang over because the bartendar always makes me a good michalada, chevala etc.. I have only tried the garlic shrimp(read: too hungover most times) and it was cooked perfectly. I dont really remember too much about the rice or beans. The tortillas were really good(I think homeade). I havent been back here in a month or so and today reminded me that its time to visit. Yep you guessed it hungover, but hungry.

My fiance took me here 4 years ago for our first date :) He always ranted about this spot, and how EVERYONE in Fremont knows of Las Casita and EVERYONE goes here. I knew what he was talking about as soon as we left that day, 4 years ago. We go here quite often. The nachos with the skirt steak meat its great. I'm not much of a margarita drinker, but this place has the BEST margaritas, and is the ONLY place I will have one. The service is usually pretty good. One guy there, Jorge I believe is his name, is THE ONE. He always takes care of us.

I have been coming here since I was a child. Now I'm a flight attendant and I've had mexican food all over the world, including Mexico itself. I still haven't found a Mexican restaurant with better food than La Casita!!!! THEE ONLY place for mexican food in my opinion! The service is always great and so are the margaritas. It's all about the beans and rice too. Never dry. Always fresh tasting!

Huge carne asada burritos, but I've had better. Also not too crazy about the chicken. Chip and Salsa is a-ok. Services are great. Atmosphere is cute. Also enjoyed my sangria. Maybe i'll give it a try on the "homemade" chicken soup next time.

I don't know how this place got as many stars as it did. This is a VERY mediocre Mexican restaurant. There are so many better choices in California, the SF bay...u name it. They don't even have desert! I won't be back here again. I shouldn't even be giving it two starts, but they didn't poison my food or anything, so I guess I'll give them two. Still though, I had shrimp tacos and it was so so. Not too many shrimps, not too flavorful. a very 'Meeeeh' experience.

I've been eating here since I was a teenager, something close to 18 years now. I've tried a huge amount of the menu (recently I've been trying to order something different every time) and it's practically always good if not dynamite. My current favorite is the chile verde (they'll throw a couple of fried eggs on top for a small extra charge that really ties the dish together), but you can't go wrong with any of the standard combo items like the enchiladas, tamales, tacos, etc. Okay yeah the guy who works the dining room (and he seems to always be working) is grouchy and gruff, so I can see why some new visitors get a bad impression. But to me it's almost a joke now. We've even tried to get him to slow down and cheer up on a few occasions. It rarely works, but I have seen him smile so it's possible. I guess if I worked as a waiter for (20? 30? years) however long I might be of a rough disposition, too. At least he's efficient as I've never had to wait too long for food delivery. A couple of tips: First, the healing power of their rice soup is not overstated in other reviews. When we lived in Fremont my wife suffered from chronic stomach issues and I used to come pick up quarts of the stuff to go at least weekly. It was the only thing she could keep down sometimes. Secondly, ask for the "old style" salsa. Somewhere in the last five or ten years they switched from a smooth red puree to a chunky pico de gallo style. The new one is okay, but nothing special. The old is wonderful and much better with the pre-meal tortilla chips. One minor observation from someone who lived over the Altamont Pass for several years and only made it here once in a blue moon for a period of time: I could swear that back in the late 90s one of the historical murals on the walls depicted an obviously bare-breasted woman but if you look at them now the only such thing is a stooping girl visible mostly from the back looking at some conquistadors. I want to say that there are the same number of murals as there always were, but I can't recall clearly enough. Did they take one down or paint over a portion of the original to create a more family-friendly atmosphere? They did seem to make some adjustments at some time in the intervening years since they expanded the available parking and upgraded the once single-occupant restroom to a more standard multi-occupant one with a stall (but still a thumb-latch, which I find odd) so perhaps it was part of the same effort to be more accommodating. It's curious, is all. My only real complaint with La Casita is that in spite of the typically zippy service, the kitchen doesn't always manage the order perfectly and sometimes salads will come out seconds before the entrees or it will be obvious that one or two of the plates has sat in the warmer for a while as another was being prepared, leading to varying degrees of freshness. You can typically tell which was which when the server indicates, "Veeeery hot plate." That is not a metaphor, I've gotten a couple of stinging first degree burns from testing their theory (I don't learn very quickly). But usually that means the dish was sitting in their nuclear-fusion-level warmer while something else got prepped. Overall, I have yet to find a place I'd rather go for Mexican food in the Tri-City area (especially not the painfully overrated El Patio) and I'll keep coming back, probably for another 18 years.

Years ago, the family and I wanted to try somewhere new, so we decided to give this place a shot...Inside of this place is very dated...Looks like it hadn't been remodled/ or updated since it opened...Everything itn this place is OLD ...Food on the other hand is actually pretty good...Servce was decent ,,,The have a bar right next door/ connected that gets really loud ...The couplel of times I have been back , got the food to go because I didn't want to eat inside... They would have a jewel on their hand if the invested in making the place presentable to their patrons...

I am giving 5 stars for the Chicken Soup alone... If you're feeling under the weather, make someone get you a quart of this stuff, and it'll somehow make you feel better.... If you are eating in, get the chicken soup with your entree, and order a margarita... Sorry, if I'm being pushy about the chicken soup, but it's really that good!!!

Ugh! Has any reviewer here EVER had good mexican food?? Have u not any Latino friends? Ever been to a friend's house to eat and had their mom make you some bomb-a** chilaquiles for breakfast or maybe sent you home w/chiles rellenos for your spouse?? Maybe u went to a baby's baptism party and the grandma in the back of the kitchen had trays coming out of the oven w/some melt-in-your-mouth fresh enchiladas, served w/fluffy rice, refried beans, and some homemade tortillas and salsa to top it off-- Going to La Casita for Mexican is the equivalent going to Taco Bell for Mexican. In fact, the crowd here is JUST like any mix of random folk you'd see AT a Taco Bell. I had the chicken rice soup (blah), I had the seafood enchiladas w/the green sauce (couldn't even finish one.. I could've had better at Chevy's..) and I had some of my husband's carne asada burrito (meh, I've had better off a taco truck) They have grandpa waiting tables so service was SUUUPER slow. Restaurant is DIRRRTY too (they stuck us in the back room). I will NEVER go back. Not when I have a handful of decent Mexican food options in the Tri-City area like La Pinata in Newark or Taqueria El Mex-Cal in Fremont or Mexico Tipico in Union City. C'mon people!?! La Casita is a POOR excuse ~ YUCK is the final word here.

I have been coming here since I was a child. My dad loves this place and I do too. He adores the chicken and rice soup. Everyone I have taken here over the years is a fan too and most say it's the best Mexican food they have ever had. I have tried every seafood dish and the vegetarian burrito. Totally awesome, well seasoned and hot. I come here every chance I get :) * The grumpy man people talk about is always there. I think he is the owner or manager. He is nice if you talk to him. He has never been rude to anyone when I have been there.

I think I'm giving this place 5 stars based more on sentimentality than food. To be honest, I don't know what authentic Mexican food is. This place, however, seems to be a pretty good definition. What I like is the lack of frou-frouness. The food is simple, hearty and flavorful. This is probably one of the only places that my entire family can agree upon - that commends 5 stars. We like the combos. My brother usually inhales the 2-3 combo whlie mom & I are stuffed after the single item. Dad usually gets the leftovers. Their rice and chicken soup is the BOMB. I would definitely pay the extra $1 and add the soup to your combo. Whenever I'm sick, I crave this stuff.. What's also good is their garlic shrimp dish. I don't remember the name. Again, it's VERY hearty so I recommend going in hungry or skipping the chips. Ambiance-wise, La Casita serves everyone. It's darkly lit with wooden tables and booths appropriate for couples & families. There are also larger tables in the back as well as the ability to, I believe, reserve the back room. I know the server that is mentioned...but he doesn't seem grumpy to me, just busy. I don't ever recall having bad service.

I've been coming there since my teens. The Chicken & rice soup is delicious. I put salsa in mine. I highly recommend the Steak ala mexicana, Beef Enchilada, and the Super burrito your choice of Meat and the Carne Asada. Theres a reason they've been there for 30+ years. Its mexican food at its finest!!!

We ate here over the weekend, and it was just okay. Nothing that great, but nothing really bad either. I had an enchilada and a tamale with rice and beans and it was just okay. My sister ordered a super burrito, and it was huge. So I guess that is one good thing about the food. Her portion was very large. The wait staff was friendly. Just okay.

I've been going to La Casita for over 7 years and it is still the same as I can remember! From the family style services and food, everything about this place is great. It is a very small restaurant, and considering that there are really no good authentic Mexican restaurants in Fremont, this is one of the cutest and all around best offered. Food selection is great..theres a huge variety. The only thing is that prices have def. increased within the last few years.. The tomato rice soup is their signature soup. Pretty tasty! Pros: + authentic + family style environment + the chips and salsa are amazing! still the best I've had + decent prices + great decor and environment. outside is really cute, too! + bonus points: bar area for those who like beer Cons: - prices have gone up a little..but still decent! - furniture is getting a little worn down.. hah

This place is like a Landmark for the Irvington district of Fremont. I can remember coming here as a kid and I went back yesterday and it is as if time stood still. It was good then, it still is now. You've got to love a place that offers shredded beef as one of their meat options. Too often a mexican restaurant will merely offer ground beef on the menu and your stuck to make the typical combinations out of it. The typical enchilada with shreded beef was perfectly made. The red sauce has a hint of cinamon, maybe nutmeg, and is really one of my favorites. The rice was much too broken up into "too little" pieces, the refried beans were tasty, creamy with maybe a touch of garlic flavor. I usually skip the refried beans but not this time. The food prices are very reasonable and the beverages as well. I also tried the Steak A La Mexicana, a stewed type mix of beef, bell peppers, onions in a thick reduction sauce. This was always a staple favorite. I look forward to trying their seafood house specialities and variations of shrimp. Its a good place to go.

Solid Mexican spot. Small bar off to the right, roomy dining to the left. It's great for big groups since there's so much space. Atmosphere feels homey and traditional. Super casual. Good margaritas. Pairs perfectly with the chips & salsa. I've slurped down the simple Chicken & Rice Soup like no other. I've tried something new every time and have always been satisfied. A few of my friends will always order something camarones (shrimp) and it's always good. But, we all know that the sign of a great mexican spot is rice and beans. The beans are savory and piping hot with melty cheese on top. The rice is fluffy and warm. Consistently good Mexican fare and satisfying margaritas.

Don't go here. Ordered Carne Asada. Easy and common enough. Wrong! Got a fairly large/thick piece of tasteless beef. It was so tasteless. I was gagging to swallow.

So this was the Mexican restaurant we used to frequent before we moved to Southern California. The food was good and that chicken soup you got before your main entree came out....mmmm!! It's a cute little place, most of the time busy, but I remember always being seated right away. The only reason why I give it 3 stars is because 1) We found a REALLY good restaurant by where we live. 100% authentic mexican food + great, friendly staff, 2) The old man waiter. I don't know if he's still there. But he was always grumpy and left a lot to be desired as far as attitude. He made me lose my appetite a couple of times with his rudeness. I'm thinking he's a family member/friend of the owners. I don't know but either way, were happy where we frequent now :)

A staple in Fremont's Irvington district, La Casita is a shure thing for good cooked Mexican comfort food. I urge everyone to try the chicken and rice soup at least twice in your life because just once would be a shame.

Even though I am not big into Mexican food, I love going to La Casitas; I've been coming her since I was at least two years old, maybe even younger! My family and I have had nothing but amazing service when we go out to dinner here, and the food is really good. They even'll make some kinds of special orders...when I was a little kid I would NOT eat any Mexican food, so I'd get scrambled eggs and french fries, which I am kind of embarassed to say. From what I have had of their food, I can definitely say that it has made me start to really enjoy Mexican food. Although one of my favorite things to get here isn't even Mexican food; their pepper steak sandwich is delicious and GREAT for the price, which I would recommend to anyone.

The place is pretty big and feels cozy inside. The bartender is cool and doesn't skimp on the drinks. One time my friend and I were in there for 4 hours (tough day) drinking shots of tequila at a table. No one seemed irritated by us, and the refills were quick! Order the Gibo Special. You will not regret it. Grilled garlic chicken, tasty homestylish potato, beans, rice, and warm tortillas.

I've been eating at La Casita for probably about 30 years now, and just ate there last night. I love this traditional Mexican food restaurant. I've eaten at trendy Mexican restaurants in SF and Palo Alto, and I'll take this one ANY DAY over the others. I like my Mexican food traditional and well made, so if you do as well, give this place a try. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I had the shredded chicken flautas dinner last night, and ate everything, but the plate :-)

Order the TOP SHELF BURRITO! It has fajita meat inside and its smothered in enchilada sauce. My only gripe with this place is it needs a good bleaching in the bathroom and the clientele at the bar are dicey.

Sorry guys. I have been eating here to many many years. It has always been one of the best spots in the Fremont area. Last night we had a large group to celebrate two birthdays. I don't know what has happened but the food was just not up to par. First the chips with salsa where stale. yuck. We asked for the salsa that is thicker than the standard stuff served with the chips. In the past they have had two types. This time when we asked they brought out enchilida sauce. The meal it self was hot but the rice had been kept warm in the oven and was dry and had very little taste. We where there early so I would expect everything to be fresh. The bottom line is there are many good mexican restaurants in the area. I will be going elsewhere to eat in the future.

I have been going to La Casita Restaurant in Fremont in the Irvington District for so many years and it is still amazing! I love just about everything they have to offer. They were good 30 years ago.....and they are just as good today! They make you feel at home and offer steller customer service! I recommend you eating here if you haven't done so.........you will be completely satisfied........they have very resonable prices for all their food items. Check it out soon!

I come here for the seafood enchiladas! This place is literally a house. The service was a little slow, but its okay. They dont have pitchers of margaritas like La Pinata does. I think i'll order for take out next time. My BF order the ultimate fajita platter. I think its $20 for chicken, shrimp and steak. It was pretty good portion. The portions are great here. There is always enough to pack home.

The building is nice as was our server, beyond that this place is terrible. I'm relatively sure the shrimp in the surf and turf were frozen and thawed several times (chewy eww). The steak tasted like something out if the freezer aisle. My plate had what appeared to be an entire can of refried beans. About the only edible thing on my plate was a giant mound of sour cream. My wife reported similar sentiments about her Mexican Cobb salad. This place is the Texmex version of Applebee's. I won't be back.

This is by no means the "best Mexican restaurant" I've been to, but it does have a charm to it in the old, 70s-style residence that houses the restaurant (complete with a full bar full of locals who acted like regulars). Our server was great, and seemed to man the whole dining area on his own. We started with the much-talked-about chicken and rice soup. It consisted of chicken, rice, and salty chicken broth--not bad, but sort of bland. We tried the pork tamale, cheese enchiladas, tostada, chimichanga, and rice and beans between us. The standout for me was the chimichanga and the beans (which I don't even normally like). The cheese enchis had onions in them, which was weird to me, and their red sauce lacked spice and flavor. A big plus is their HUGE portions! We easily had enough to take home for another meal later. Their salsa is pretty good too (but again, could've been spicier). Lots of people were ordering their "famous" soup to-go--probably a great remedy for colds and the freezing winter weather. The lack of flavor is what turns me off; everything tasted sort of bland and greasy (well, the grease is to be expected). My quest for great Mexican food in Fremont continues....

Yep I'm reviewing another mexican restaurant and yep I liked it. Nope I don't think I have low standards, I just like me some rice and beans. I do think that they could help themselves out and remodel, or expand, or paint, or shit do something. But I like their food it makes my tummy happy and I would come here more often if it were closer to mi casita.

Salsa was fresh. Rice and chicken soup was very comforting. Tried house Margarita and was decent nothing special. Had Tex-Mex chicken and was very good.

This place is okay at best. If it weren't for their chicken and rice soup I'd give it maybe 2.5 stars. My boyfriend at the time when I was living in fremont would take me and although I enjoyed the atmosphere I was not impressed by there service. There was one instance when there were only three other tables and we still had to wait a good 30 minutes for our food to come. It also took forever for a refill on our chips and the salsa just kept getting more watered down. By the time my food had gotten there I had lost my appetite. I also feel the wait staff is extremely lethargic and don't seem to do their jobs in terms of being waiters or waitresses. I always enjoy the enchiladas and carne asada, however sometimes their ingredients such as the black beans don't look as fresh. I usually substitute black beans for refried beans and every time I would ask they gave me a look like I was crazy.

Good food and a neighborhood atmosphere. I'm a whole pinto bean junkie, which they don't have here (only refried) so we mostly go to other places. They have a number of interesting specials I'm always meaning to try... I like the "self sign up" list for a table, makes it seem more like a neighborhood place for some reason. Waits can be a bit long at peak times. The soups are extraordinary.

I love this place! If you try this resturant I have to recomend the chicken and rice soup ALWAYS!!! Its a must have its nothing special just some good soup. I went here with my friend and ordered something different i tried the the poor viejo I think it was called its grilled steak avacado sliced tomato and potatoes with some tortillas Oh wow soo good the potatoes are just like grandma makes lol. Had it with a Cadillac margarita!! OH YEAH!! So good, prices are good service is good , drinks are good!!

I love La Casita. I have (also) been coming for years and it is just so yummy. Try the house specialties...mojo de ajo, tilapia, etc are all soo good...as are Fajitas. Oh everything is good, my fave mexican place in Fremont. It is the best place to eat Mexican food in the yay... I feel the need to add - I am pretty sure there is crack in the enchilada sauce. I don't know how else to explain my craving for it.

  • Dave C.

I grew up eating at La Casita so what can i say..... They have the best enchiladas. When I moved to Los Angeles I searched all throughout trying to find better. I have to admit La Casita has gone downhill abit over the years but the Enchiladas and Chicken Soup are still the best ever in my book. This spot is family to me.

Um... I honestly don't get the appeal of this place... The only explanation I can think of is that other people who adore this joint do so out of nostalgia - because they've always gone here. But it's not a patch on the Mexican food I've had in Soquel at Tortilla Flats - where their mole is subtly spiced, flavorful and the entrees come out as normal human-sized portions. People - please don't tell me you would take quantity over quality! Just because they have burritos that are large enough to feed a little league team doesn't make it good food! I had the "Top Shelf Burrito". The menu claimed that the burrito would be covered in mole sauce and cheese. The mole sauce was unlike any mole sauce I've ever tasted - it was actually the worse mole sauce I ever had. Mole sauce is supposed to have chocolate in it. I detected 0% chocolate. The cheese was stringy and there was just too much of it. Actually there was too much of the whole thing. The burrito came out as a gigantic log - if this was a block of wood, it would fit neatly in my fire place. But I'm not impressed with ginormous portions. When I spend money on going out to eat - I don't want the privilege of taking it home with me (and I didn't in this case anyway - despite the fact that I only nibbled on my burrito before giving up). Seriously, I'd much rather have smaller reasonably sized portions - and have the food be excellent - than have huge monster-sized portions and have the food be mediocre or worse. I've had better mexican food at airport food courts and for those who are frequent travelers know - that isn't that good! The thing is - I was *hungry* - I mean - really hungry... So I might have eaten more of my lunch if I didn't find it to be some of the worse Mexican food I've ever had... The chicken in my burrito actually had fat and gristle on it! Eww! After that discovery - that's when I gave up entirely! I won't be coming back!

Got struck with a sudden flu and was in desperate need of some good ol' chicken soup. Yelped Fremont "Chicken Soup" (although I've lived here on and off for 10 years, I'm still not too familiar with all the eateries). Atmosphere: loud bar patrons. Service: quick and friendly. My cousin and I ordered: Spicy shrimp quesadilla - overrated. the garlic was a nice touch but didn't make the overall taste better. cheese enchilladas - mediocre. frozen ones from store could be better. chicken soup - this is not soup, people!!! it's porriage. GET IT RIGHT! I felt misled and disappointed. (Chips, Salsa and Guac) - bland and nothing memorable.

My family and I have eaten at La Casita for years. Of course, over time, prices have gone up, and I think the food quality isn't as good as it used be, hence I'm only giving it three stars. Service isn't the best, especially when they are super busy. However, this is the only place I know that serves menudo (tripe & hominy) daily. That's great stuff.

  • Jen S.

The food is good here. Less pricier than Los Charros in Mtn. View for the Combo Plates - $9.95 as opposed to $13.95 at Los Charros. I ordered a chicken tamale and flauta but they gave me beef. Good thing that I'm also a beef eater and hungry that night for I would have been a little PO'd. My food was delicious, could not finish so I brought it home. Chips and salsa are good. If you order a salad to go with your meal, make sure to ask for light salad dressing or else they will drench your salad in it!

We've been coming to La Casita since 1976. Nothing fancy, but good, quick service and very good food. My favorites: the chicken soup, their homemade salsa, the cheese enchilada with green sauce is excellent! Not usually a fan of restaurant refried beans, but their's are perfect.

I'll just get straight to it. La Casita needs some "oomph" in their food. The flavors are very bland. However, the service is on point and extremely friendly. The restaurant itself is very clean. Hopefully they will make changes to the food soon.

This is our go-to Friday night place because it always satisfies after a long week. Their seafood enchiladas are so good...just be prepared not to count calories as they're smothered in green sauce, sour cream, and topped off with slices of avocado. The mini-chimi appetizer half order is enough to feed all three of my girls with leftovers. The chicken soup is yum-o. The dining room is a little tired and old and the salsa is more watery than I prefer, but overall it's good Mexican food that always hits the spot.

  • Vivian W.

This place seems to have gone downhill a bit. :( I remember the chips and salsa being really good here...but when I went today, the chips were cold and almost stale. One thing hasn't changed though, the chicken rice soup is SO GOOD. I get it every time. It comes in either a cup or bowl size. The "cup" portion is plenty, it actually comes in a fairly big bowl. The "bowl" portion is ridiculously large...it's only $1 extra, but could feed like 3 people. I find the food average. I've had the enchiladas, tamales, and quesadillas and nothing has really impressed me. Also, for some reason, I find the meat here to be a little questionable. If I go again with coworkers, I'll probably just stick to chips and chicken rice soup.

only the best mexican food I've ever had. the restaurant is situated in a cute small house looking establishment. The plates here are huge, but that is not why i come here...the food is scrumptious. Beans and rice are perfect. No, i cant fit in 3 enchiladas, but I try anyways. I know when I finish an entire burrito here, its not because I'm hungry but because it's oh so fricken good that I can't stop. OMG. Best mexican food orgasm you'll ever recieve. Hands down.

Pretty decent mexican place. The restaurant is pretty cute, with all the murals on the walls. They have really good margaritas here, especially the top-shelf "Cadillac" margaritas. I really like their chips and salsa, I can eat buckets of them, and often eat too much that I have to take most of my entree home. Not that I wouldn't anyway, since their portions are very generous, even without any chips I still could not finish a whole entree. I really like their chipotle chicken quesadillas...they put so much chicken in there, it's yummy....the sauce is pretty good too. Their chicken soup is much better than at El Patio's. They seem to be pretty busy on the weekends for dinner, but the service is usually pretty good. I haven't found too many mexican places that are as good as the ones I've been to in the south bay, but this is pretty good for a local joint.

I too have been coming here since I was a teenager and it was just a walk up window. My boss would send me to pick up a sack of very large burritos for the whole office. The bar is a local watering hole for many of the guys / jocks from Highschool still....too funny. My sister hangs out here everytime she comes to town and knows everyone by name. My favorite is a house specialty of Chicharron (fried porkskins w/lots of meat on them) now named after a local business owner and long time patron who was tragically killed. I think the 'family' of La Casita is what keeps people coming back. All the negative reviews are from those who don't have History here. A good place that feels like home always tastes better. When you watch a place grow up from a small side kitchen shack with holes in the wood plank floor to a full blown restaurant with 1+hr wait, it's for a good reason!!! Ambience, familiarity, good food and good feelings. The wait is standard with people flowing out onto the sidewalk and this always makes me feel good when I drive by that something that is an old town favorite running strong in this fast paced society. If you don't like La Casita, please step aside and let us that do ahead of you *GRIN*

Four stars...but slightly below La Pinata in my book. This was my favorite place in Fremont in 2001 and 2002, but has gradually gone downhill (though just slightly). The food is pretty good. But as the "old man" as people call him gets older, the service and attitude continues to get worse. A simple cheese enchilada and beef taco with beans and rice is always a good choice. The soup is really good, too, as are the salads (I like the bleu cheese dressing, and the fact the salads are always nice and cold). Also great chips and salsa, and very good frozen midori margarita. Don't miss it! The old man...well...think "soup nazi" of mexican food. Yeah, he's rude, but it's all part of the experience. I try to make this place a fairly regular stop in my mexican food circuit. I like the atmosphere inside of a convered house. I like the fact it is family run (not a chain). But La Pinata's food is comparable, and the service there is much better (though it doesn't feel like "home").

Amazing!!! I love this place it has been my friend's and my favorite for years!!! From their huge portions of tamales, rice beans... to the simplest of chicken and rice soup ((by the way I made many special trips during my 1st pregnancy specifically for the soup)). The food is just as great as the service, very friendly and quick! I recommend to EVERYONE!

My friend took me here for the first time last night. It's super comfy inside and the booths were nice to sit in. The food is kinda pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. When we sat down they gave us chips and salsa and the salsa was really fresh and homemade! The soup came before my meal which is always nice. It was very simple but really delicious. I'd definitely go there again :)

No need to insult other reviewers if you didn't like the place... I have been coming here for nearly ten years, and it is always consistently delicious--typical, greasy, yummy, traditional Mexican food. A good friend of mine, who has the most sophisticated palate I know, and loves a five star gourmet dining experience, swears by the chicken soup here, especially if she and her husband have a cold. The waiters are nice, food comes out quickly and is nice and hot... What's not to like?

This is probably one of Fremont's oldest sit down Mexican Restaurants so it is very established in it's neighborhood, servicing mostly Irvington and Mission districts. The food is okay and the menu has been updated over the years to reflect certain trends but i seem to keep on ordering the same few things, and am rarely disappointed. Ordered the menudo today, a little hungover from Superbowl weekend, and it hit the spot. Not the best in the area but definitely not bad, generous small bowl and it's on their regular menu (some places only offer it on weekends). I've also ordered their enchiladas verde and they are very good. Chicken enchiladas in a tangy tomatillo sauce with salsa and sour cream, good rice and refried beans and its on like Donkey Kong. I stick to Bohemias and Pacificos here cause the margaritas are too sweet and artificial tasting for me, though they are very popular. The bar area actually is its own entity, with some serious old school drinkers chillin and playin dice.

I have been coming to La Casita for over ten years. While in high school and junior high I had nearly EVERY dinner for my birthday at this place. Considering this I have basically grown up seeing the same boys/men bussing tables, seating people and taking orders. As I have had a few different mishaps here, (I have called ahead for a reservation for my birthdays and come twice and the tables were not ready and infact, the place was packed so it was tough to get everyone seated,) I still will rate this place a 5. There has never been a mexican restaurant that could beat La Casita's soup... nor can they beat their enchiladas. I literally would DIE if this place EVER went out of business. I absolutely love this place... right when I walk in the door I'm always greeted with a smile, the salsa is THE BEST, the soup is TO DIE for and the enchiladas, rice and beans are always ON HIT. :] I've tried numerous Mexican restaurants and NOTHING HAS EVER COMPARED.

    (5)
  • Anne O.

First let me just say that my mother's tacos, enchiladas, and tamales can't be beat...from the Mexican Mama herself, no restaurant can compare. OK, got that compliment out of the way. On to the review. Hubby and I have been to this establishment many times, with friends and on our own. Went last night as I got home late (thanks, BART) and didn't want to cook. If this had been our first time at La Casita, we would not have returned. While the food was great, the service was terrible...and we've had this guy before and not had it this bad. I've read the comments here about the angry old man...some of you may be confusing him for a server; that is a terrible assumption...he is an order taker, not a server...big difference. My hubby likes to call him Alfredo, an order taker he had worked with a few years ago. The very tasty carne asada Top Shelf burrito is supposed to come with mole sauce and cheese on top. It didn't. When he was about 1/3 of the way through, we realized this (we were both very tired) and he asked the guy if he could get the mole sauce; to which he replied, "you want the sauce?"...well, yes!! we want the sauce. My Stringer special was exactly how it should be, full of garlic, sizeable shrimp, and onions and bells in a buttery sauce...there goes the diet. Well, at least the entire meal wasn't ruined. But, on top of the burrito incident, we sat for more than 15 minutes without a refill on his water or an offer for another beer, while my soda was refilled promptly by the busboy. By the way, it was 8:45pm when we went in, took about 5 mins for a table to be ready, and by the time our meal came, 6 tables were open and no one was waiting. Our order taker seemed more busy bussing tables than taking care of his patrons, one of whom was especially thirsty. [While the service this time was horrible, we left a 10% tip because it is the right thing to do...they do pay tax on their SALES, so you really shouldn't leave a ZERO.]

My wife and I wanted to try a Mexican place other than La Pinata which is one of our favorites in Fremont and so we decided on La Casita. Some of the other reviews here on Yelp said that the food was bland but that was not our experience. I've sadly had plenty of bland Mexican food and I found all of this food to be tasty and flavorful. Based on the many reviews that mentioned the chicken and rice soup, we shared a small bowl of it as an appetizer and it really was delicious. Between the two combination dinners we had we had a taste of all the meats (pork, ground beef, chicken, and carne asada) and they were all well-seasoned and well-prepared. I would not recommend this as a takeout place unless you lived next door as I don't think it would stand up to the trip home (especially the hard taco). Bottom line - delicious food, friendly prompt enough service (and this was on a fairly busy Friday night), and great value for the money.

Ive been going here for many many years. The chicken soup is the absolute best. I always add some cheese for a little extra yummyness. I also love the chips and salsa as well as the tamales. And of course the purple cadillac margarita :-)

Ever have an orgasm from eating? If not, you need to have their SEAFOOD ENCHILADAS. Fish and shrimp, and avocado, tomato, and sour cream, with tomatillo sauce! Every bite I take out of these babies, you will hear a moan out of my mouth. Chicken and rice soup is the equivalency of foreplay, so make sure you get that too.

This is my favorite mexican restaurant. I absolutely LOVE their pork tamales! They are the best. The sauce that comes on it is so gOOd too. Definately add the chicken and rice soup to your meal for $1 extra. Mmm.. yummy. Their 2-3 item combos are a good deal around $10 comes with rice and refried beans. Their rice is cooked to perfection and flavorful. They sprinkle cheese on the refried beans too. Chile Rellenos and cheese enchiladas are good too. I've had the steak fajitas before and it was blah. Not very flavorful. Comes as a thin piece of steak whole. You cut it up yourself. The ambiance is nice and cozy. Decent sized restaurant. Not a taqueria. The even have sports bar area by the entrance thats always packed.

La Casitas has been a strong tradition in my family ever since El Patio in Fremont went down the hill. It has all the great qualities of a traditional mexican resturant and although it feels like a hole in the wall, to many Fremontians it feels like home. They have a great margarita, great burritos and a good quality salsa and chips. The price is reasonable and expect there to be a little bit of a wait on Friday & Saturday night. Supposedly the munodo is to delicious during a sunday lunch hangover however I have yet to try this speciality. The one thing that doesnt compare is the sick soup as I like to call it, this is where El Patio has them beat. Phil's suggestion: Its worth trying once and for some of you it may be your second little house as it has become for my family.

I came to this restaurant solely based upon the yelp reviews and i feel like its over rated. At first the chips and salsa that is all you can eat at most Mexican restaurants. The chips were fine could have been better and the salsa was horrible. It consisted of randomly chopped tomatoes a lot of water. Ive eaten at fast food restaurants that had way better salsa. I ordered the steak fajitas and a side of rice. The steak didn't taste as fresh as what i was expecting and it was flat meat that wasn't even cut up and it was flavorless. This was $14.95 when. When i asked the waiter some chili he brought be some red sauce and it tasted like something that came out of a can with no spices. I asked him if he had anything spicy because the Mexican restaurants I'm use to make their chili with tomatoes, onions, celontro, and chili peppers. The waiter brought a bottle of hot sauce and stirred it into the sauce. I was like really if i wanted hot sauce i would have requested that. The overall quality of the food was cheap and horrible besides the rice but even that was extra greasy. I paid $14.95 + tax and $5 tip when i would have been happier at a fast food burrito joint and paid at most $7.00 and had better tasting food with half the grease. If you want authentic Mexican food this is not the place to go. I recently moved from San Jose which has a lot of awesome Mexican fast food joints that are really good. Normally you get what you pay for but in this case i over paid. I left really upset that i had been deceived when i thought i had found a regular place i can go to close to home. Oh yeah the re-fried beans are horrible taste like they just mashed the beans and through cheese on top. The crowd of people were mostly Caucasian which should have been my first clue that this would not be authentic because the place that i use to go to in San Jose had mostly Mexican customers so I knew it was authentic. If your looking for a good Mexican joint i suggest you go somewhere else and don't be fooled by the reviews. Someone tampered with them i know so because there is no way that they honestly feel that it is the best. If I wanted white washed Mexican food i would have just gone to Chipolte but they are actually good.

A nice place for lunch, service is ok (an older guy there is sort of grumpy, get one of the younger servers if you can), great chips and salsa, good burritos and lunch specials, reasonable pricing. Chicken soup is AWESOME, very hearty and flavorful, stick with the enchelada/burrito options, their fajitas, etc aren't great. I definitely recommend the place.

I used to come here on Sundays when El Patio was closed. Wasnt there some connection with this place and El Patio, like the chef came from there? Not sure but anyways. I like this place a lot. They have good service and some tasty food. My husband and I have stoppped by just for a drink there a few times. Unlike El Patio they have a proper bar with stools so you can sit down (no disrespect to El Patio or anything:).

I went to this place looking for good mexican place to call home. Lets just say I am still looking. Our waiter should've been home rocking in his recliner, retired from working, he had the personality of a rock. Unlike previous Yelp reviewers I didn't find this place anything but average from the chips to the main course. The place was kind of full and the obvious indicator that the food wasn't that good was the fact that there were no mexicans eating at a mexican restaurant.

La Casita ain't got no competition! Hands down the best mexican food around. I always order the Burrito - Enchilada dinner with beans and rice and shredded beef. Always. I spent a year in Spain and when I came back, what did I eat that first night you ask? La Casita. Oh sweet La Casita. The rice and beans are perfect, hands down. And the sauce they cook the shredded beef in... jesus, so good. And the enchilada sauce... i go here at least once a month and order extra so i can take it back to san francisco with me. On a side note, they seem to have a nice tequila selection and their margaritas are good. The chicken rice soup is killer, but i just can't eat that much so i never order it. And their waiters are fabulous. especially the one guy who has ended up my waiter lately. always smiling and nice.

I ordered a super burrito covered in mole sauce and cheese. It was ok. The mole overpowered the burrito but it didn't have much flavor in the first place. If it were a cheaper place, I'd probably return.

Not cheap ($7.50 for marguerita, $9 for one fish taco, $4 for bland guacamole), bad service (no silverware, no straws when asked for twice, long wait for drinks, long wait for food - there were only 2 of us), and mediocre food (bland guacamole, watery salsa, and rice & beans out of a can.)

I really enjoyed the super burrito (when they say super they mean super) and the chicken and rice soup is a must. However, service was mediocre at best--the food took a long time, and when we asked for salsa we didn't get it until we were almost done eating.

The homemade chicken soup alone is 5 stars, but I'd give another 5 for the comfortable atmosphere too. The owners and servers are the kind that get to know you. I love going there with my young son or my friends. Yeah, sometimes I might have to ask for a drink refill twice, but they are human and often busy. They are always friendly and helpful. It's not expensive, food is good, and I'm happy to support their business.

I love this place I have been comming here for as long as I can remember. I remember when they didn't have the back room and the wait was 45 mins to an hour. Food is always hot and delicious. Staff is always friendly and always making sure you have enough chips, salsa, and what ever you are drinking. I haved moved from Fremont but my dentist is next door so I try and get afternoon appts so i can head on over to LA CASITA.On the wood meter a good 5 inches makes me want to keep going in.

I have been going to La Casita for 20 years now. Good food. My favorite is the chicken rice soup. I went a few weeks ago and have to tell you that I am very disappointed with the prices. I ordered a supreme burrito a la cart and it was $11 at lunch.... wow! There so many Mexican restaurants in Fremont that you cant spit without hitting one. And they have the nerve to increase their prices like that. After all these years the least that they can do is remodel the place!

today is the third time I've been here, and have not been disappointed any of those times. I ordered a lunch of the Camarones a la Casita--shrimp in a great kicked up sauce served with rice, beans, and a choice of flour or corn tortillas. While the sauce had some fire in it, this did not overpower the flavor of the shrimp. I also like the scalloped potato dish with plenty of cheese and chilies--I need to order that again at some point. I can't really compare this to La Pinata because it seems like the dishes at both establishments are different. Overall, great quality; this Yelper will be back for sure!

constantly good food! constantly good service! What else do I need to say. No matter if you go in or pick up food togo, it has always been spot on for us! The only downside is that the place is small and popular with locals so it can be a bit of a wait at dinner time....but hey that's good fro their business and a sign of a good restaurant....and worth the wait! Their chicken/rice soup is excellent. I have tried a lot of different dishes and although they are all good my favorite is the spicy shrimp quesadilla!!

OK I'm a fan. I seriously like La Casita. I went there last week with friends and again tonight with my Mom. Our waitress was very attentive. I have to agree with Anna L. the Chips and Salsa are good. I have been coming here since I was kid too, and the soup has been good since I can remember. I would avoid the flautus they were a little dry, could have been off night. Anyway, I know I will be back but I think I should take a week off.

I'd go back. The flavor reminds me of the Mexican restaurants in San Diego, CA.

Been coming here since I was born pretty much. I'll always recommend this place. Gotta love that the same waiter is still working there after 20+ years :)

Went to this place for a party last night and it was pretty good. I ordered the fajitas with chicken, steak, and garlicky shrimp. YUMMY!! The atmosphere was nice and the staff was pleasant. My only real complaint was portion size. I ordered fajitas and they handed me a tortilla warmer that I was supposed to share with someone on the other side of the table. Then inside they had included only 6 tortillas for us to share. I had lots of meat and not enough to put it in. They gave me very little condiments to garnish my fajitas with also. Other than that is was a great dining experience. The chips were crunchy and good. The margarita I ordered was heavenly and they made us feel very welcome. I would go there again, but probably not order the same thing.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
