Best Burger and Bloody Mary on the Central Coast! My wife had the fish tacos with the special orange sauce, and those were awesome too! Definitely would recommend, very casual, affordable, and family friendly. Plus they have the most tv's and sports in town, especially with the nfl sunday ticket through directv.

Besides being extremely friendly, the food is very decent. The ortega burger was one of the best I've had in years. They have NFL ticket with 4 hi def screens. The prices are reasonable and it's tough to find a reasonably priced place in Cambria. I'd definately go back.

Had a late dinner here one night while looking for somewhere to watch the Sun. night NFL game, have a basic dinner with a beer or two. Pretty standard bar and grill, seemed family friendly and as much a restaurant as it was a bar, not a party-animal kind of place. Better than average bar-fare and menu selection, with everything from the standard appetizers and burger/sandwiches to oysters, seafood and pasta. Food was good, a great selection of beers on tap and friendly service, I would go back. 3.5 stars, but hey, it's a bar, I can't go 4.

No complaints. Great little bar with a family atmosphere. The West End Burger is in my top 10 best burgers ever. Friendly bartenders who can also hustle. Went twice in the same weekend, because it seems like just the right blend of casual and quality.

not even kidding... best burger of my life!!!!!

new ownership provides a much desired change. good food and very nice staff. great place to watch games on saturday/ sundays in the fall. they have recreated a version of the famous orange sauce from la vics in san jose which is a very good rendition. Avoid the oyster shooters.. Pricey

The best little bar & grill in Cambria. My wife tried the fish tacos...SCRUMPTIOUS! The special sauce goes good on everything. :-)

Quick service and casual, quiet atmosphere. Food was good. The fish and chips seemed very fresh and hand-battered. The cheeseburger was much larger than expected. Would recommend to anybody looking for a quick meal.

Stop here every time we're in town. Ordered s Bloody Maria & the waitress started arguing with me say they were traditionally made with beer. Noooo! It's tequila! I challenge anyone to Google it. Boo. So opposite of owner. Too bad.

Amazing pulled pork sandwich! Doing the drive from San Jose to LA and stopped here for a snack. Really nice bar with multiple televisions with various sports on. They have legends' autographed jerseys hung up all over the place. Also, 25 cent bottles of water cannot be beat!

I really like this place! Oyster shooters with vodka are THE BOMB!!! Hamburgers are very good as well. The woman at the counter was the only one working this particular day, and I was very impressed by her ability to handle multiple customers at once. Will definitely come back on my next trip to Cambria.

Even though prices have gotten higher since started coming here, they still serve the best fish and chips in town

  • Meg H.

My husband and I stopped in for a quick snack in the late afternoon. The server/bartender was super friendly. The service was prompt, which was impressive because the place was pretty busy. This was your typical local bar atmosphere, which was what we were going for. I ordered a cup of chili, which was soothing and delish. My husband ordered the jalapeno poppers, which he was really happy with. Another perk to this place was the galore sporting events that were being shown.

I've had great burgers in my day and this place ranks up there with them. Always friendly staff and the kids never leave anything on their plates.

The fish tacos are THE BOMB! Excellent value for the money :-) Hubby ordered them, and out came that plate of THREE generously-sized tacos just absolutely loaded with juicy grilled (read: NOT DEEP FRIED) fish, plus cheese and lettuce and salsa. Hubby LOVED them, and what a great value. You soooo get your money's worth! I cannot recommend this dish enough! I had the halibut and chips, which was okay. I guess because it was halibut, it was a bit pricier than the regular fish & chips. For the money, I'd have been better off getting those fish tacos! All in all, a great little place to grab a bite in Cambria! The lady who helped us was very nice. We liked her from the get-go...and the prices were very reasonable, especially for Cambria. Next time we're in the area, we will definitely come back :)

  • Lilly L.

Fish and chips were terrible. And the clam chowder tasted like warmed up flour and butter. I've had better chowder out of a can. The woman who helped me however was really friendly and helpful. She looked like she was working her ass off... I don't think she had any help. For her I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2.

Classic bar and grill and great value for Cambria. We came here a few years ago and again today for a couple of brews and lite dining. I was at first reluctant to order the fish and chips because of one Yelp report, but was surprised to find that the fish (fresh Alaskan cod, $12.95 in 5/14) was quite firm and good. The fries were good. Sort of middle of the road classic fries, but certainly not soggy as in one Yelp report. We shared dishes and I thought the oysters were quite good as well. Our pints of Firestone 405 and Blue Moon were perfect temps and came in glass Firestone pint glasses, not plastic as another Yelp reporter commented. Also, one reported $5 bottles of Bud but I see Bottled Bud at $4 as of today 5/14. And why drink Bud when they have pints of Firestone 405, West End IPA, Firestone Double Barrel or Reserve Porter, Arrogant Bastard, Blue Moon, Sierra Nevada Heifveizen, Longboard Kona, Newcastle and Stella Artois for $5.50? Restrooms were clean, modern and not reeking of cigarette smoke as one unfortunate diner reported. Service was efficient and friendly. Ambiance classic bar/restaurant. Music in background was not overwhelming. 4 of 5 tv screens had various sports on them. Definitely will return.

We were looking for a casual lunch during our visit to Cambria, saw people in the West End Bar & Grill so we decided to give it a try. Glad we did. We had a couple of good microbrews from the interesting choices. Then at the recommendation of Carol, the owner, we had the fish & chips. .. good choice! The fish was fresh, generous, and cooked just right. And to top it off the batter was crisp, tasty, but not overpowering, and best of all, it WASN'T greasy. Enjoy

When we walked in we were "mad dogged" by some locals. Nice. The waitress was really sweet and accommodating but the service was kinda slow. I was disappointed in my overpriced iceberg lettuce salad an overly sweet bowl of chili but it was not inedible and I was very hungry. The food quality is like a beach-side walk up diner. Salad dressing in little plastic packs and all. My husbands steak and son's hamburger where just, "meh." The worst thing was my son ordered chicken strips and fries and ate one piece then said it smelled "fishy." We got back to the hotel and he was sick. Never again.

  • Ron L.

Place was oK for a drink or a beer but the burger was below average. My wife had the calamari strips and they were tasty but she did not feel well after. They likely needed to change the grease. It's a place where mediocrity meets I don't care.

    (2)
  • Robert B.

We had a late lunch and shared the seafood combo. Plenty of food for two. Everything was cooked well and with good flavors. We plan on visiting again.

    (4)
  • Michelle A.

The service was ok, but the food was just average, if that. I had fish and chips and I'm pretty sure they were straight from the freezer and into the fryer. The food wasn't terrible, but for $47 (that included 1 beer and appetizer) I was expecting much better food.

    (2)
  • Terri H.

If you want unimaginative bar food that is coming out of the freezer in the kitchen, then this is your place. Some items like the West End burger are decent, but overall the food is overpriced and undeserving. French dip sandwiches come with salty processed broth, and even a simple grilled cheese sandwich was not "grilled" but rather microwaved. Coming from San Diego, we know a fish taco when we see one and they DON'T come with packaged cheese but rather limes and cabbage with a spicy white sauce dressing. Unless you crave the bar and booze, go elsewhere for some real-deal food that's freshly prepared. Just keep on driving.

  • Brad C.

The food is actually pretty good and most of the people are great. However my experience emphasizes the fact that one person can destroy a dining experience. A short, stout hispanic waiter bumped into me no fewer than 5 times and never acknowledged his error or said sorry to me. At last I elbowed him pretty hard and he still didn't seem to notice. I left fairly angry with a vow never to return.

  • Longji C.

First stop coming out of the big sur . We had a moscato and a soda, the hot wings for appetizers, the west end burger with coleslaw, and the creamy pesto pasta with garlic bread. Despite the excellent attitude of the waitress, the restaurant seemed short staffed at the dinner rush, with one waitress and one other person busing for 10 or so tables. The wings were lacking in flavor, but the hefty burger and large portion of pasta made the meal satisfying.

I come in here with my cousin once a year for bloody maries during the Pinedorado parade. They make a serious bloody here and it will get your morning started. Yeah, that's right, morning, because that's when the parade is. It's nice that they serve the drink in plastic cups so you can head outside, but I don't quite feel the same when I order a good beer only to have it served in a Solo. Anyways, the bloodies are good, but with only one worker, things get dreadfully slow and you can easily wait 15 minutes for a drink.

Had a great time! Came in for early dinner and grabbed burgers, sandwiches and pasta. Everything was great! Our server Carol was SO nice and very accommodating with our picky eaters. Thank you!

By husband and I thought this place would be a nice to have dinner and a few drinks while we stayed in Cambria. That was a mistake. Let's start with the food. I ordered the calamari and fries and my husband ordered a basic cheese burger. When my husband got his burger it looked as if someone sat on the bun. The meat tasted like it was frozen at one time. The cheese wasn't melted. It tasted ok. My food looked and tasted good too; unfortunately, I had some intestinal issues later on the night and going into the next day. The service was serviceable. Since this place is a bar and grill, we figured it would stay opened till at least 10p. Well no such luck. We were still eating, 7:45p, when they turned of the open sign and all the neon signs in the windows. By the way, there were other customers in the place at the time. This place looked like it would be a good place to have a few drinks and food; but, I would find an other place to patronize.

  • Lisa N.

Restaurant was hot and full of flies and gnats. Some of the gnats enjoyed our food more than we did. Food was too hot to eat, as though it had been heated in the microwave. The service was minimal. They did, however, serve a good Bloody Mary.

  • Brian S.

Im sitting in the restaurant right now and has to write a review... its been a busy morning with the street fair and everyone's coming here for these DELICIOUS spicy bloody Mary's! We ordered the breakfast burritos and had to wait for a little but well worth the wait! Some of the best BB I've had and great salsa! Very satisfied. Good prices. Homely place. Great times

LOVE this place. It is what it is and come as you are. My hubby and I always visit West End when we are in Cambria. This is the type of place you can dive into, order a beer, some appetizers/dinner and just hang out. We always ask Carol to switch one of the tvs to hockey and as a Sharks fan, she jumps right in for the hockey talk. Keeping the drinks and conversation going, the calm atmosphere is a welcomed change from loud sports bar scene. Give West End a chance when you're in Cambria!

    (5)
  • Sarah B.

We were looking for a quick bite before leaving the coast and stopped here because it had sports references in the window. It also said/has 805 on tap! We had fish & chips and coconut & chips that were yummy. I like the seasoning on the fries! I hate boring fries. The coconut shrimp dip was great with a hint of warmth (but I'm a wimp). Great atmosphere nice staff!

  • Jennifer M.

My husband and I stopped here on our way back to Paso Robles and had a wonderful time! Their clam chowder and Chardonnay fresh clams were both delicious and we got the fish & chips and oysters & chips for entrees. Everything was surprisingly fresh and delicious for a bar-scene and our waitress was genuine and attentive. I definitely recommend it!

  • Lucas R.

Great little grill to visit now and then. This is definitely a bar, not fine dining, but it is exactly what you want now and then to start off the day - They always have solid service, an amazing bloody mary, and good pub food. We like beginning the beach day here for breakfast or catching a morning game on TV.

  • Joseph N.

Take your business elsewhere. Way too overpriced, $15 for cheap halibut with bad breading, and poor soggy fries. $5 for bottles of Budweiser and the like. With all of the much better options in the surrounding area, there's no reason to waste your money on your place. I strongly urge to AVOID.

    (1)
  • Christi P.

Sorry..Just Gross...the waitress was really nice and so were the other patrons. The Shrimp was just yuck. The 805 was well.... 805 no complaints from this girl. It was like they grabbed a handful of frozen shrimp defrosted in the microwave and threw it into a quarter cup of white wine, garlic and butter along with all the microwaved shrimp drippings. The shrimp was tasteless and the sauce was like dripping your bread in yellowish water. Uggghhh!! Keep driving there are better places.

We stepped into this restaurant which is actually a bar and sat down. I looked around. There were about five other people in the place. Three we're sitting at the bar, two we're sitting at a table. These people were all glued to the TV. No one spoke. They were like zombies. There was no other visible signs of life. No one came to greet us. No one came to take our order. In fact, no one came at all. It was weird. We sat there for about five minutes without ever seeing a single employee. I saw that the other customers had drinks so an employee must have been around somewhere but they never came out of hiding to serve us. This was in the middle of the day. Finally we got up and left. Terrible. This town needs tourists and one bad experience can really turn people off. Maybe you'll have better luck. I won't be going back.

Great food! After going 2 other places that were either closed or had horrible service we found this place. Service was a tiny bit slow for the few people in there but the food came out fast and was very fresh. It was delicious and the atmosphere was easy going. Definitely worth stopping by if you find yourself in downtown Cambria!

  • Nancy J.

was told by staff at Fogcatcher's Inn upon check-in that this is THE place to go in town for fish and chips. Yuck-no way. The fish was soggy and tasteless. The fries were okay but the service was not good. Greeted upon arrival and given drinks promptly but otherwise the waitress/bartender sat at the end of the bar apparently doing homework. Never offered a second beer or extra tarter sauce (which we needed). The bathroom stank horribly of cigarette smoke. There are so many better places to eat in charming Cambria that I would advise avoiding this establishment.

    (1)
  • Alison C.

This place BLOWS! -- I seriously can't believe we were charged $48 for clam chowder from a can and a Philly cheese steak sandwich that tasted like grease and plastic cheese. The fish and chips tasted pre-frozen and the tartar sauce was made with Miracle Whip... do I need to go on? I had low expectations when we walked into the joint and was thoroughly disappointed. I agree with another Yelper that Carl's Junior serves better food... and I don't eat meat. Unless you're ordering something they can't screw up... say Coke, eat somewhere else.

Party of 8 arrived a little after 5 to a guy smoking a cigarette immediately outside the entrance. Lo and behold he was delivering food and busing tables later! Ambient temperate was in the high 50, low 60's when we sat down. Everyone kept their coats on. We ordered, drinks arrived and food came 30 minutes later...for all but 2 of us. Two of us had finished our meals when the waitress announced AFTER being asked where the other 2 meals were that the meals wouldn't be coming because the turkey was frozen (Cobb Salad & Turkey sandwich). WTF? For the 6 of us that received our meals the food was good. After having been there about an hour or so, several of us noticed that the room was getting quite warm. Fifteen minutes later the place was a sauna. Had to be close to 80 degrees in the room. The waitress did not once check on us to see if a) our meals were satisfactory b) we would like refills on our drinks c) to give us our check. The place was not that busy and the service was lousy.

  • John K.

I was there for dinner. Should have known better when I saw there was only one other table having dinner at 5:30pm when the other restaurants in town were hopping (Labor Day weekend). After waiting for a few minutes, we sat ourselves down. After a few more minutes I went in the kitchen to see if there was a waitress in the place. The guy says, "she's outside the back door, on the phone" I asked him to get the waitress and she appeared after another 5 or 10 minutes. I had fish and chips. The fish was dry and tasteless. My wife had the shrimp salad. The shrimp were the tiny canned shrimp. The salad was a pile of chopped up lettuce. Spend your money well, go somewhere else.

I decided to break my fried fish diet to sample this place on a recent trip to Cambria. It was well worth it. Small little pieces of deep fried cod, cooked to perfection. Not too greasy or dull. Pure Fish and Chip heaven. Washed it back with a few cold ones. great way to end a 4.5 hour drive from the city. Love it.

On vacation in Cambria for a week. Went tonight to watch Monday Night Football and have dinner at 7 pm. We were told as we walked in that they were closed. I asked their hours and they said that they are normally opened until 9, but was closing at 7. No notice on the door. I guess management wanted to close and not take my money.

  • Tifani G.

Stopped here for a quick bite of lunch on our way home to San Diego from Big Sur. We both had the chili. It was a bit runny and softened up my guy's bread bowl a bit too much for his liking. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall I'd say this place is your average bar and a good place for a pub meal for those traveling along the coast highway.

    (3)
  • Joy R.

Still love the fish tacos but the owner needs to have the server do his smoking elsewhere other than outside the front door. On several visits lately his smoke wafts in on the diners and then he finishes his break and walks back in and starts right up working, smelling horrific.

  • Marlene C.

Ordered steamers (decent amount, over done), halibut and chips (good portion but the fish was dry), calamari and chips (batter ok; the calamari in big rectangle bites so a bit dense and rubbery - good portion). Fries were crispy and West End Blonde Ale good. Average food (husband thinks less than average) and pricey for the greasy spot left on the upper palate. Service iffy, seemed more interested in locals at the bar. Will try another restaurant next time out.

Found this place driving along main street in cambria. Saw the sign and decided to drop on in and give it a try. Its a nice local bar and grill. Nice friendly service and staff. Good selection of alcohol and beers on tap. Food was good. Had the fish and steak tacos with their orange sauce, one word: delicious. Nice place to sit, watch a sports game, and have a drink. Would highly recommend stopping by here for a drink. I'll definitely be back.

Now, don't forget, this is on the main drag in a tourist town, so... temper your expectations, people! We got decently friendly & efficient service, and the food was OK. Just like the 3-star Yelp rating says: "A-OK". I had fish & chips, the 2 other orders at our table were shrimp & chips and a regular burger & fries. Nothing exceptional, nothing bad. The fish pieces were ample sized, and they didn't skimp on the 10 medium shrimp for "shrimp & chips". Fries were crisp. West End Burger was large and looked good. Prices are slightly high for what is essentially generic pub grub, but that's to be expected in Cambria. No complaints, no raves either.

I stayed at a hotel nearby and was hungry so my family and I went in here to grab something good to eat. There was a lot of mixed reviews about this place on yelp but I wanted to give it a try. The service was good but the food was not flavorful at all. I had the fish and chips and few of my family members got the fish taco. There was no flavor in our foods and we just ended up paying for fish on salt that we pretty much placed on. We left so disappointed but at least I can went here and tried it.

Stopped in for one beer, stayed for dinner! We had the fish and chips (homemade potato chips) soooo good. Fish tacos(big pieces of cod!), west end burger and clam chowder all tasted fresh, homemade and delish! Big screens for "the game" and a great bartender! Great find!!

We stopped by here on our way to southern California and liked the menu options they had. However, once we got there, we were not impressed. It is obviously a place to drink namely, but then why bother having food? We didn't have someone seat us or some to us until the entire bar was serviced. We waited 15 minutes for drinks and then maybe 10 more for the food. It was very hard to request anything as there is only ONE waitress (probably the owner) in the whole place. The vegetarian sandwich was great. However, the "fresh" Halibut and Cod were mushy, over oiled, and not breaded enough for fish and chips. Fries were unequal in all portions. Basically, we had an OK experience. The food was good despite those negatives. I just wish we were given more attention.

  • Patrick W.

So I don't usually write many reviews... BUT I felt I had to warn the general public about this place. Let's start off with the positive, and then (unfortunately) spin down into the depths of the negative. The waitress/bartender was pretty friendly with a light southern accent, and they have a decent amount of beers on tap. Nothing special, but there were four types of Firestone which was nice for variety sake. Yay! And then I ordered an IPA... and received a Porter. Strike one. I ordered an oyster shooter. I was being adventurous, but probably shouldn't have eaten it. It was very milky grey and the consistency seemed off from other oysters I've had. Strike two. I ordered fish and chips. Firstly, the fish and chips in the picture was not the fish and chips that I received. The picture shows beer battered Alaskan cod.. this was pre-breaded and probably frozen fish sticks that had the consistency of rubber. The tartar sauce had way too much onion in it, which made the fish even harder to eat as I'd hoped to just slather the fish in sauce to avoid the utter rubberiness. Strike three. My fiance ordered a grilled cheese with tomato slices inside. The cheese was your basic American slices (pretty normal, I'd say), but not melted except for maybe the first half inch around the edges. As a matter of fact, the bread was barely toasted at all! Strike... four?!? For all this crap we paid over $40. Fish and chips; oyster shooter; a grilled cheese; two beers. FORTY DOLLARS! Wow... just wow. I wanted to stop in here for a quick, tasty meal and a beer on my way home from Big Sur. I did get a "meal" and a beer... but the former, well, sucked hard, and the latter was the wrong freaking beer. We won't be revisiting.

My husband, parents and I stopped in here for some cocktails before dinner while visiting Cambria for the night. We sat at the bar and were served by John, who was very friendly and fun to chat with. I had a Bloody Mary which was delicious but STRONG! John also made my mom a special Irish coffee which I thought was nice, and my dad and husband had some standard cocktails. We shared an order of fries which were yummy as well. I would definitely come back to this restaurant for drinks, although I think there are probably better options for a meal in the vicinity. Friendly service and tasty cocktails!

Fun pub-type place with casual atmosphere, friendly service and good food. I had the off-menu black bean tacos and they were fantastic -- ask for the house sauces! My friend had the 'award-winning' chili and really enjoyed it. They have a large number of beers on tap and the music playing was Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles, etc. Nice and slow -without being negligent --- just what I wanted on a relaxing coastal vacation. I'll definitely return on my next trip to Cambria in a few months!

As a bar this place is good. As far as food goes go somewhere else. Thinking the it was named for the West End of London I thought the fish and chips would be good. So I opted for the more expensive Halibut and Chips. This is the quality of what I would expect from Jack in the Box. OK but not really satisfying. The chips were standard shoestrings, frozen and unappealing . I ordered a Black & Tan which is supposed to be separated with the dark beer floating on the light. It was almost mixed. Oh yeah the Clam chowder had no clams & tasted like a can of Progresso at 3 times the price. Servers were friendly. Service was quick.

Tried this place while in San Simeon (visiting Hearst Castle) - found it through Yelp. Bar with small restaurant. Seated right away next to the window - unfortunately right next to the neon signs... fly killing zone. Ordered: Surf & Turf (meat was well seasoned, delicious and juicy $26) Halibut Fish & Chips (fish was moist 4 good size pieces and fries, a bit pricey - probably could have gotten away with the cod fish & chips) Garden salad - not worth the money because it was just iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, WHITE onions and croutons. Food took a bit too long for my liking, because 3 other tables that were seated after us got their food before my table did. Condiment containers were a bit grimpy/sticky from spilled ketchup, vinegar, etc. Went through 3 A1 bottles (taken from other tables that were all practically empty) until we finally asked for a fresh, new bottle. Overall, if in the area could see myself coming here again. Decent priced compared to the other food spots around. (San Simeon/Cambria = food deserts!)

To put it simply, our group was extremely disappointed with our experience at the West End Bar & Grill. We had finished setting up our campsite and wanted some decent seafood at a reasonable price, which is hard to find. We finally agreed on this place, despite some negative reviews. We should have listened to the bad reviews instead of the good. Like another reviewer wrote, this place is obviously a place to drink, but bars can have good food too, right? Well, not this place, and the service was also lackluster. Despite the place being a bar, the room was very gloomy minus the neon-lit football and beer signs, and it was very warm and humid when we walked inside. There is only one waitress who is also the bartender, unless you count the older man who you can tell is not experienced and just needs a job to pay the bills. One of the girls ordered the sourdough bowl with chili and was brought the sourdough bowl with chowder. We told the man she ordered the chili and his exact response was, "The ticket said chowder." He ended up bringing her the chili, but his attitude wasn't appreciated. And an FYI - the ticket said chili. I will say the clam chowder, chili, and fish and chips were okay, but we waited for what felt like 30 minutes to get our food. The french dip (dry and lacked flavor) and the steak and shrimp entrees were not worth re-ordering. The shrimp was either frozen (ridiculous) or not cooked throughly because that night the guy who ate the shrimp was sick and in the bathroom all night =/ The waitress visited us only a couple times after the food was provided and our drinks were not refilled, except for two people at our table. If you're looking for a good drink, the bar is well-stocked and you'll most likely be catered to better. I'm sure people have had worse experiences, but this was a complete letdown. We will never visit the West End again.

I frequent Cambria a lot as my ex-inlaws family has a beach house there that I get to stay in often. I have been to the West End to watch sports and have a cold brew, chicken wings, onion rings and burgers. Service has always been pleasant and relatively quick. Respectfully Reviewed

My family and I came here at the recommendation of a friend. I don't know if we were there on an off day or if she enjoys something different about it. I really can't think of anything positive to say. My mom and I joined our family after they had already been seated. We were starving and just wanted menus and water to get started. We were utterly ignored by our waitress, given rude remarks by the bus boy (man) and paid way too much for food that was mediocre at best. We had to steal silverware from another table that had been set up already since our waitress didn't bother to even return to our table after taking our order and we waited for what seemed forever for our check. I know it probably wasn't more than 10 minutes, but when you would like to leave and you are standing up and looking around for your waitress (who is still ignoring you), and there are all of maybe 10 people in the restaurant (6 of whom are in your party) it becomes pretty annoying. I couldn't believe the lack of customer service. I know it's not a Flemings or a Rus Chris, but something more than contempt would have been nice. I don't know how this place survives. As far as quality of food--I was left thoroughly unimpressed. I know it's pub fare, I'm not expecting something that is going to make me crave it for days on end, but my burger was beyond well done and dry--and not worth the almost $9 I paid for it. You know it's bad when you would rather have a burger from Carl's Jr. or Burger King. My mom got a sandwhich with sprouts and other veggies. She said it was okay, but also not worth the money we paid. Skip this place. Your wallet and your evening will thank you.

We were lucky to find this place. After eating at the bbq place down the street, we were looking to catch the rest of the All Star game in a bar setting, looking to play some pool. Found this place across the street from our car. Lo and behold the game was on two nice tvs, pretty close to eye level, so my eyes were happy. Nice little family owned restaurant and bar. Although we did not eat, the staff is very friendly. Thumbs up for the jukebox and the full bar. Also it was the first place we found that wasn't cash only, another plus. I would revisit if I was in town. PS - if this place had a pool table i would give it 5 stars, just because i love getting drunk and playing pool. but i understand since i think the vibe here is more family restaurant than it is dive bar.

One of the few places in town to watch a game. Any game. NBA? Check. NHL? Check. NFL Ticket?! You bet your ass. Also they have the best burger in town, appropriately titled, The West End. Seriously. And i've eaten at every place around here. Toss in the facts that they have a full bar, nice people, and free WiFi...this place is quickly becoming a favorite.

Came in from a cold day of shopping for lunch yesterday and was once again pleased with both the food and service.... Added bonus: 5 TVs showing the NFL Ticket!! My chicken Philly sandwich and my wife's fish & chips were both very good. The fries were perfectly crisp. One star taken off for the clam (less) chowder... (Seriously, is this stuff canned?) It was the only thing that was sub-par.

Nice local beer selection. It's just a local bar. Did I say local bar?

We specifically chose this restaurant while on vacation due to the sign out front advertising halibut fish and chips. We went in and were seated. The bartender/ waiter chose to to wait on another party that came in after we did. I went up twice to the bar to try and get service. On my second attempt, John told me to "relax," he was waiting for all of us to be seated. He never acknowledged our party or expressed his deliberate slight to us. After our meal, in which the burger was not cooked to order and the fish was overly greasy, I left w written "tip" as to how he could provide better customer service. Again, rather than apologize for his poor performance, he followed me outside saying, "seriously?!" I would not recommend this restaurant, simply because of the service.

Very friendly people. That is so funny another person wrote about the regulars...we got the same kick out of them as she did!! And yes, it was about 1 or 2 when we went also. We sat by the fireplace (we're from Phoenix, we're wimps) and enjoyed some cold brews and tasty filling food. Great place and relaxed atmosphere :)

Their fish and chips are pretty rubbery. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food, but it's my vote that counts here right??? They do have a full bar however, which is nice for when you get sick of drinking wine..

Cruising through town after a morning at Hearst Castle, I knew I wanted some seafood or Mexican, and while looking for a good restaurant, I saw the sign outside the West End Bar & Grill advertising their seafood. After seating ourselves at a window table, I noticed the bar was very full, and the tables quickly filled after we sat down. Bodes well if the restaurant fills up...must be good! The waitress was friendly, but harried as she explained that her other help had to rush out for an automotive emergency. Despite only having herself and the cook to help serve the tables, the service was good. I ordered the fish tacos, and WOW! You get three tacos that are HUGE, and the fish was very good, and the salsa on the side adds a little spicy that is much welcome. My companion ordered the calamari and chips...apparently she's had better, but it's ok. All in all, I'd go back for those fish tacos...and next time I'm getting a Landshark beer - rare for a place to carry Landshark!

Only popped into The West End Bar/Grill for a drink and some french fries so I am unable to do a full review. I can tell you that the service was great and friendly too. I chatted with the kitchen people too and they were very nice guys and very polite to boot. It was pricier than the other bar in town, Mozzi's, but not too expensive. The food looked good and the fries that we sampled were tasty and fried to perfection. I'd definitely return to try a complete meal.

I have no idea how this place got 4 stars as a restaurant. It is a bar, and they serve deep fried bar food in those classic plastic baskets. The food was "ok." But, I believe there are better places nearby and more deserving of a high rating. I also would not consider this a family establishment unless you are looking for a way to watch sports, drink shots, and feed the kids at the same time.

Not bad. Only place open when rest of Cambria closed to prep for dinner service. Liked my west end cheeseburger w/Ortega bacon grilled onions and mushrooms. Standard bar food menu. Would return only if other higher rated stops were closed.

Good (though not spectacular) food, very reasonable prices (especially compared to the other options in Cambria), and outstanding service. The entire front-of-house of the bar and restaurant was staffed by one man (the son of the owner he said) who managed several tables expertly with a fantastic attitude. This is a great family-run establishment for a quick and relatively cheap bite in Cambria.

One of the few places open for dinner on a saturday night on Cambria's sleepy Main St. We quickly perused the menu and it looked like it had a decent selection of foods so we decided to check it out. It looks like an unassuming sports bar inside, with some surfboards tacked to the wall and Bud decorations everywhere. I ordered their pasta with creamy pesto with a side salad, and the hubby had a cheeseburger. The food was just OK, nothing great but not terrible, either. My pasta sauce was a little too bland and gluey, but it did the job. And, as with all things in Cambria, the prices were on the high side. I think we ended up paying $46 with tax and tip for this rather mediocre meal. On the other hand, I tried one of their local India Pale Ales (forget the name), and that was pretty good, and the waitress was friendly and efficient, so it merits a solid 3 stars.

One word description: run-of-the-mill. The food is totally and utterly unremarkable, the setting is like any other pub anywhere else. But they do have some local brews on tap, which makes it a little different from other pubs in other places. Also, I had a great time watching the wait staff try to match the plates coming out of the kitchen to the tables they were serving. I was tired of having cow-related products, and a little worried about my vegetable intake. Somehow, while on travel, I end up eating way too much cow and not nearly enough greens. Anyway, this was the reason I ordered a Cobb salad with grilled chicken. I guess it was the dressing that had the MSG in it. I'm sensitive to MSG. It hurts my jaw.

Good microbrew, decent service. Mediocre food. I never knew bacon could taste bad. My BLT came with rehydrated bacon or something. It was tasteless. If you are going to charge me $10 for a sandwich I expect it to at least taste good. The burger my husband got was edible but not very good either. 2 sandwiches, 2 beers, 2 cups of soup (which was ok): $45+ and meh..

Definitely a sports bar restaurant. After leaving Hearst Castle, we needed a quick bite to eat that wasn't 'high end' cause we had spent all our moneys on the booze at the wineries. Burgers and fries -classic pub fare, the burger was juicy and tasty, and coated with a thick piece of cheddar cheese. The fries though were awesome! Super crispy in that good way. If you like Mickey D's fries, these are a helluva lot better. Per my lunch time buddies - Fish tacos - 3 large servings of Alaskan cod piled high with lettuce, salsa, and cheese. Fresh and filling, a little heavy on the cheese for my lactose intolerant friend. Fish and chips - another classic done right. Fries still awesome. Clam chowder - good and not that heavy creaminess that coats your throat There are more locals here than anything, the staff was super friendly and the food service (at 2pm) was prompt and efficient.

My mother-in-law loved this place...and she's hard to please. We were looking for a place to eat lunch while we were waiting for our tour of Hearst Castle & stumbled upon this place. It's dark inside & there are some locals at the bar drinking it up (at 1 pm). But don't let that deter you. It's clean & the staff is very friendly. And the food was surprisingly GOOD! They even have a kid's menu (which is always a plus). My mother in law had the West End Burger & clam chowder. Hubby had the Philly Cheesesteak. Kids had the corn dog & the chicken strips. Even the fries were yummy. I had a salad that was nice & fresh. The food deserves 5 stars....just the ambiance could be better. I eyed the bottles at the bar...the only one missing? Johnny Walker Blue. Otherwise, all my favorites were there.

during our April road-trip we passed Cambria on Hwy 1 while headed to our hotel in San Simeon. in passing, the town got our attention and we immediately decided to go back and see what it had to offer. what a find! Cambria is one of those places you "discover" and it added to our road-trip experience in a way i can't really explain. we walked the somewhat deserted streets from one end to the other and came across the West End Bar & Grill. from the outside it was warm, comfortable and inviting so we decided to stop in for a drink or 2 before heading back to our hotel. initially, we had planned dinner around some cold pizza left over from our day in Pismo Beach but quickly found ourselves enchanted by the town, the restaurant and it's staff and decided to make an evening of it. now that i think about it, it could have been the alcohol (the bartender pours a stiff drink) but i'll choose to remember it as the town, the restaurant and it's staff. the food was great, nothing to notify "Food Network" about, but good/wholesome and reasonably priced for this area. it was like eating at a favorite aunt's house. but what makes this place "special" is the staff. both the kitchen guys and the bartender were good fun. the bartender was from a longtime California family having parents located in different parts of the State and she was more than willing to stand there and "talk story" with us. she gave us great recommendations for the areas we were headed towards the next day adding to that small-town feeling illustrated with friendly locals. TIP: if you're looking for a place to party Cambria is likely not it. wet t-shirt contests and keg drinking bars don't exist in this town from what i can tell which is what helps preserve the feel of the town. we drove into Cambria just before sundown and it was literally deserted on a Saturday night. in fact, when we left West End we were pretty much the only people on the street....which considering the setting was a bit too much like a Dean Koontz book for me. so the walk to the car, as the fog came floating in from the ocean, was a rather quick one to avoid the evil night-stalkers who hide in the fog (now that i think about it - it was likely the alcohol). we talked to the West End bartender about this and she explained that mostly older/retiree types populated the town and they're normally in bed by 9:00. she advised us if you want to see the residents who call Cambria home and shop in town you have to come around lunchtime. i personally think it is like a Dean Koontz book and there is something evil afoot......a town-wide conspiracy luring unsuspecting tourists to their doom in the fog (now i know it was the alcohol). but still, Cambria and West End are great and they offer a different type of adventure for the road-tripper. check it out - but stay out of the fog.

The best fish and chips...anywhere. I travel around the country on business and have stopped ordering fish and chips anywhere else. They don't have that heavy batter and the cod is fresh, light and tasty. It is unexpected to get the best fish and chips in California but if you don't like greasy fish buried in gobs of batter then this is for you!!

Be prepared to shell out some big bucks for very average food. The bar is great so I suggest you grab a tri-tip sandwich from the Grill across the street then make your way back here for some cocktails, since the bar at the Grill sucks. Great place to just watch the game and have some drinks.

Since I'm slowly getting to know Cambria, I do have to say that I think that this might be one of the only full bars in town. I was craving a mojito a couple of nights ago and the place we chose to dine at, only served beer and wine. ummmm...... whatever. Apparently many of the restaurants in the area only serve beer and wine. I don't know about you but I'm a hard drinker. Not a frequent drinker. But when I do drink, I want a cocktail. COCK-TAIL. Not some snooty wine from Muffy's vineyard in the valley. A Belvedere collins or a nice refreshing mojito. Husband and I stumbled in here hungry and discovered that they not only have a wide variety of items on their menu, but a full bar and many beers on tap. I had the fried oysters (needed to refuel my mojo) and a salad (keeping it reg) and husband had a angus burger and fries. Our iced tea was quite refreshing.... no, we didn't have any cocktails.... we were getting ready to drive home. Service was friendly... food was prompt. Next time we're in the area, we are having COCKTAILS and dinner here.

Best sports bar and grill in Cambria with a broad variety of moderately priced (for Cambria) food on the menu and the best 151 Mai Tai's anywhere. It has a relaxed atmosphere most of the time unless there is a really big game on. It's not too noisy and there is no rushed service. The very pleasant owner, Carol, tends the bar and takes food orders most days of the week and her other family members are there to help out on her days off. So if you like patronizing family owned and run restaurants with great food, give them a try. I highly recommend their fish tacos and burgers. Their spicy chili is a prize winner in Cambria's annual chili cookoff contest. Only lost one star because the last couple time we were there my wife ordered a Smirnoff and grapefruit juice and they didn't have Smirnoffs! But they substituted Skye instead so I guess thats okay as well. Oh, and my last piece of advice is don't order the 151 Mai Tai if you can't tolerate a strong drink or aren't willing to pay a premium for it. But it's well worth the price if you can.
