Vegetarians have no fear! They had an excellent "Dirty Hippie Veggie Burger"! Burgers are made to order, add sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, caramelized onions... your choice! There is only outdoors seating, we chose to sit rooftop. The view is amazing, snow capped rugged Sierras! Servers deliver your food to you! They are very friendly and makes the environment relaxing! You have to stop in here if you ever visit the Bishop!

Again, this is why I love yelp. I would never have found this absolute gem of a place. Quintessential road food. Had the Ryan Goods burgers with blue cheese and bacon- amazing! I like my burgers well done so this was exactly the way I like it. A little heavy on the onion, but easy enough to remove. Had milkshakes and a smoothie-perfect on a hot summers day. For sides we had sweet potato fries, regular fries and onion rings. I mean why choose? Yes, if in town I will be back. Friendly service, funky atmosphere, and great eats.

What a great find - this place is tucked away and off the beaten track. When I found it, it was like discovering a little, delicious secret. It's across from a grassy field and mountain view - feels like your in Switzerland. Definitely a "whole in the wall" worth visiting. They have a huge, creative burger menu and seem to use fresh and many organic, local ingredients. After eating my bacon cheeseburger and fries - my husband and I both agreed that w certainly didnt feel bloated and heavy the way I normally feel after a burger. Deifnitely taste like it was made at home, although mine was a little on the dryer side than expected. The bacon is from the local meat shop "Mahogany" definitely high quality stuff. If your passing through Bishop, this place is worth the stop just for the inique small town and country experience.

This burger place is an easy step up from most of the "burger" places that adorn the roadsides in the rural west. I stopped by here with my In-Laws on the way back from a backroads Death Valley trip. We hadn't eaten all day and were ready for a good meal. I didn't want to do "fast food" but I also didn't want to do "sit down and fall asleep" so in Bishop I decided that the burger barn was our choice of places to go. So when I go to new places, I like to know what people are getting and plan out my meal accordingly. Usually I order last to make sure that I can compliment the other orders with different things. But this time I seemed to be the lead and needed to take charge. I ordered up a burger with bacon and guacamole and a large order of onion rings. Then my FIL stepped up and ordered his burger and another order of onion rings. Then his brother stepped up and ordered HIS burger with another order of onion rings. See!! This is why I order last! No one got fries and now we have about 500 lbs of onion rings between three middle age/older guys. Almost needless to say that some onion rings were left unconsumed. Everyone loved them, we just ordered too many and had I ordered last, I would have gotten the fries. Why? Just to make sure that if someone who didn't like their rings still had something else to try and maybe eat. Anyway the burgers were pretty good. The burger wasn't really memorable though. And sometimes that's a good thing when you are eating at a restaurant on a long trip. No one wants to be remembering their food in bad ways while driving down the road...far far from restrooms and their own beds. The shakes were a bit runny and disappointing though. Not my kind of shake but hey..I buy maybe two shakes a year at the most. What the heck do I know? We ate outside...wait, I'm not even sure they HAD an inside...anyway the evening was nice and it was beautiful..but rural. And by rural I mean in farm country. And in farm country I mean it smelled of farm outside...and with farm smells...there are big fat flies. So big you might need a tag to hunt them. I don't know if this is the norm for this place but the flies were memorable...that is for sure. The staff are what you would expect from a down home burger place. Local youth working to make money to pay for their needs. If you expect some sort of "service" at a roadside burger joint and that is going to help you decide on where to eat. I have nothing here to help you. All the service I got was perfectly fine. They even delivered our food to the table. Anyway...if we are hungry in Bishop I wouldn't mind stopping by and trying them again....just not during fly season.

Awesome burger dive! Looks like a trailer park and that's part of the charm. They use great meat and the bacon option is amazing. Staff is friendly and very helpful for first timers. There is outdoor seating and an upstairs option to sit at with a nice view of the mountains. When driving through, make the stop.

I've never been disappointed in the food here. The local beef option for most burgers is nice, though not available year round. All the burgers are individually hand packed and are cooked perfectly to allow free flow of the juices. VERY bad parking options and limited seating are its only downside. Can't beat this place!

So the food is terrific and the kids love it... but if you have a dog... you must stop here. It is so easy, and comfortable and a nice picnic style atmosphere. Get the bison burger... wow. Vegan burger was a fav too Grilled cheese and burgers for the kids. I wanna sit in the crow's nest next time!!

Great quick spot for good burgers! The crispy fries are delicious and for a small, you get a half basket full of them. I ordered the 1/4 pound burger and it was great! The bun (homemade) was really good. I've had better burgers so can't give this 5 stars, but it hit the spot! Limited seating - only 10 seats inside but a few more off to the side. Everything is outside - not such a great place on a cold winter night. Staff was very friendly!

Beyond words.... I could never think of going anywhere else!

Good burgers, funky hippy place. Service was pretty slow. I am subtracting stars because of overcharges. They have an option of "local" or "certified" beef, however they don't tell you "local" is 3 bucks more. Plus they charged extra for cheese and onion that was listed as included on menu. So negative stars for deceptive pricing. Update: Sean, thanks for response. Upping stars since honest mistake.

After years of driving by this place and wanting to check it out, I finally went in (twice) this past weekend during one of my many trips to Bishop. And oh, boy...was it good! They easily have one of the tastiest burgers I've ever stuffed my face with. I ordered the western bacon cheeseburger with tots and a chocolate shake. I'm so impressed that such a small place makes their own buns and own ice cream. It really does make a difference. Seriously, the shake tasted like I was eating a chocolate bar - so decadent! I would recommend calling ahead of time to get your order in. If not, be prepared for a wait (it's worth it, though)! The only thing I would say negatively is that it is a bit disorganized. Maybe implement a number system rather than calling out names? Some people were getting confused since so many names were almost the same. So, keep your ears open!

Great place to eat if your looking for a burger. I had the Bison, full of flavor, juicy, and fresh.

I don't think I've ever had a meal there that wasn't awesome, fresh, and healthy. I absolutely LOVE the Dirty Hippie. Great place to meet up with friends and hang out and eat al fresco style. Fun place to eat all around. Great staff and service.

Food was good, but slow and a bit pricey. Pros: local beef, housemade buns, tator tots, outdoor seating (when the weather is nice), staff seemed friendly Cons: slow (lunch was over an hour, for a walk up to the counter joint - food took about 25 minutes, they told us 10-15). They forgot the bacon on my burger - which was sad because I tasted some and it was really good. Outdoor seating or drive through only (when it is cold). BYOB, but there is a market up the street if you want a beer with your burger. A bit pricey: for three smallish burgers and one order of tator tots, the bill was about $36. There were some strange things happening with the other guests while we were there: a lady in front of us was clipping her nails while ordering and an older guy kept parking his car in places he shouldn't. But this is no fault of the business... I will probably give this place a chance when I drive through town again - unless we are in a hurry!

Very good bison burger, fries were crispy, the onion rings were ok, the nutella milkshake was so good... Fun atmosphere... They have water misters which is good for a hot day.... Definitely should be a place you stop at to get some good food... Friendly service too

A group I was with decided to try this place for dinner. Such a funky and interesting place. The food was outstanding. I had just a standard cheeseburger, but some in the group raved about the Whack-a-mole burger. They had the best tater tots!

  • Alex K.

This place was pretty good. Food was delicious location was a little funky but not bad. I had the western burger and large onion rings. The burger was juicy and had plenty of toppings. The bacon is what really made this burger shine. The onion rings were good but not spectacular. My friend had the same burger with the tater tots... we both agreed the burgers we're great. Taters we good, not too dry not too greasy. Biggest con to this place- lots of flies around. I didn't notice any fly traps or anything but if there wasn't any then they are needed. Food was a little more expensive then I expected but worth it. Would be happy to return the next time I'm passing through Bishop!

Well worth the wait! Get the burger every time...Bring my nieces whenever in town to visit! Atmosphere is simple, but very enjoyable! And the little upper deck area has a really cool view!! Peaceful!

5 stars for great burgers anyway you want with amazing bread, homemade ice cream shakes, a variety of awesome fried sides including tator tots, fries and sweet potato fries, homemade honey lemonade, friendly staff and all around perfect American experience. This place is beyond cute! There's even an 8 track playing over a speaker where patrons can select the music. We will definitely be back!

  • Charlie P.

Beats me why this doesn't rank a full 5 stars. Five of us ate there 3 times in one week. The Western bacon cheeseburger is fantastic, as are the fries and onion rings. And the staff members are all friendly and super efficient. Can't wait to go back...too bad its a 6 hour drive from the SF bay area.

  • Katie K.

Say yes to the guacamole burger! It was unbelievable! The bacon! The guacamole! The burger patty! All perfection. The fries and onion rings are surprisingly just as good!

Got the green monster. Yum. The beef is so tasty. The bun soft and fresh. Misters outside. The flies can be annoying but burgers are worth the annoyance. Fun local bishop vibe. The employees were awesome !

I stop here at least once a trip to the eastern Sierra. Really good reasonably priced burgers. Fresh baked buns, crisp fries and tasty shakes. They even have sweet potato fries and a nice salad. All things that taste really good after a day of hiking or climbing. They are closed on Tuesdays. The parking can be problematic, but there is street parking.

This is a dump outside but the food is the best onion rings are perfect best great shakes a lot of flies so get it to go it is located in front of trailer park

Wow!!! Awesome burger place ever!!! , !!! !! vs !!!! + ~~~~ ... !! !! !! 5!!! !! !! ~~ !! !!! !!! , . . drive through !! :) ~~?? .... 10 , Yelp reviews-- Omg!!! Best burger place ever!!!!! My friend and I, we are kind of being silly sometimes... Just decided hasty and haphazard to travel to Bishop for 2 days..so!! Of course no infos for this city at all !!! Usually In this case, we try to be safe; searching restaurants through yelp... And we found only 4 stores that has over 4stars reviewed places around this area which doesn't really trustful for me.... (I actually thought locos might help out their local stores ;) Sorry ~my bad..) Once I got here, it was pretty cute and cool drive-through that looks like personally-made, kind of cozy but still enough to look as a drive-through~~. And I liked that cuz it's different. I stand line behind the car~~~~*^^* Searching what to order.... Burgers, sweet potato fries, coke, ice-tea, chicken tenders.... Might be enough for two ppl~~and ordered food~~ that was a bit cool~~ too..!!! And we got the burgers: wow!!! The meat was awesome!!!! With Non-frozen Local angus beef !!! Store HomeMade bun!!! The best quality Vs that price~~~!!! And the sweet potato fries were just made!! So it was super hot, crispy and chewy..... !! Can you believe that? The price is just like McDonald ~~! I actually ordered 2different burgers, coke, ice tea, sweet potato fries and chicken strips.... They brought us everything except the chicken tender... until we're pretty much done with burgers.... So I went to check it out if she forget to order it ... Then it's still fine cuz we were kind of full~~I just wanted to cash back. The lady apologized sooooo politely and served for free serve.....!!! (On the house!!!) Omg!!! What a nice service ever at the burger place!!!! And she told us they think tourists help local economy.... So they want to do their best and told us sorry for that again..... I told her you guys are the best service ever....!! And appreciate !!!! The strips were perfect too!!! Outside Hot, crispy!! Nice.!!! Inside Soft, Juicy, Melting in my mouth!! And the sample of milkshake was great too!!! Thanks!! Omg I strongly recommend this place~~*^^* check it out when you are around there!!

Well worth to go off the main road to eat here! Great service and delicious food! We had the Blue Cheese burger and Western Bacon Burger, which were amazing! We ordered the Large Fries to share with four adults and there was plenty! And the Peanut Butter Shake was yummy!!! They use local, grass fed meat and has a Vegetarian menu. Small parking lot but just park on the street. Definitely give it a try!

Awesome food. Quality ingredients. Best breakfast in Bishop. Highly recommend. I got a egg sandwich with avocado on one of their fresh buns. Great place to stop on the way to Mammoth or back home. Staff super friendly. Tons of charm. A real roadside attraction that should not be missed.

Quirky place with yummy hearty food. I had a yummy black bean vegetarian burger with side salad and fries. Everything was very tasty! The place has an interesting kind of rusty artsy setup and decor. A little awkward driveway/parking but not a deal breaker by any means. I enjoyed the visit. Recommended.

Found this hidden burger joint driving through Bishop on the way to Crowley Lake. The yelp reviews were spot on about the quality of the burgers and homemade hamburger buns. The beer batter onion rings are delicious. I arrived when they opened. Be patient with your order, it's worth it. If you want fast food, go elsewhere. If you want a quality burger, unique setting and friendly service, come to Burger Barn. I wish I had the chance to try the homemade ice cream, shakes and malts. I'm sure to drop by again on my way back home for another delicious lunch!

  • Joe I.

This place is a real gem. Jen took my order and you pretty much sit outside anywhere you can find a spot. I tried the Hot Pastrami Burger, a Western Bacon Cheese Burger and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake. The food is Nom Nom Nom delicious and healthy too. Its definitely a small business but they have card reader's with an ipad to process credit card transactions and send emails for expense reports. It is off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip! :-)

Ye hiking bums and ski junkies should pull over in Bishop for one of the best burgers ever. This quirky little shack serves up charbroiled burgers, great fries (not a soggy one in the bunch) and lots of shakes. They offer a veggie burger here - WITH BACON - called the Dirty Hippie. If you are a clever sort, you can call in your order 10 minutes outside of Bishop, arrive, and start eating right away, no waiting in line - everyone be jelly, you be slammin' fries into your face. After a few days of campsite cuisine, this food is going to hit the spot.

This spot is killer! Grabbed a burger at 11:30am the other morning bc the place looked too awesome to pass on even though it was breakfast - glad I did. Will be back next time in Bishop!

Haven't eaten the food yet, but I'm in love. The Bishop chapter of the vegan hipster cyclists lives here. Ok- food eaten and amaze-balls. The char and smoke on the burgers is out of this world. Produce fresh and delicious and home made buns are unreal. Going back for a milkshake to go!

Legit. Enough toppings, cheeses, and dressings to create your dream burger! Definitely worth the short jaunt off the 395 for all you hungry and weary travelers! THE MALTS THOUGH!! Yum yum

Came down to Bishop with some friends and my gosh, what a gem this place is! We were scrolling through Yelp and stumbled across this. The first few pictures had me sold. Pulled up to this little burger joint and instantly knew our stomachs were in for a treat! I ordered the bacon guacamole burger with sweet potatoes fries. Uhhhhmazing! The meat was juicy and the fries were perfection. This is thee stop to make if you're hungry and in Bishop. I've already told a few friends about this place. I will be back! Nommers

Interesting little gem! I yelped it on the way through from Mammoth, and drove off the highway to find it. Mmmm... I was tasting the burger for the rest of the drive home! This place is not a fast-food restaurant. It's a quality burger joint. The fact that they had a drive-thru was a big shock, but it's more for customer convenience when you want food To-Go. I ordered the western bacon cheeseburger with half/half sweet potato and regular fries. The burger was very good, with all the regular toppings. The bacon was like actual, regular bacon... what a concept! The fries seemed to be battered with something and cooked extra well. I thought they were OK, but nothing special. They could have used a bit more salt. I do like that the SP fries were well-done (many places serve them soggy), but they were just a little overcooked IMO, and lost a little of their flavor. Very cool place, I'm sure I'll be back if I want a burger on the way through town!

  • Melissa D.

I was SO glad to see that they had a gluten free bun option. They had everything from vegetarian patties to bison or turkey patties. Thank you for giving me options that are within the realm of what I can eat (I'm dairy & gluten free and I prefer grass fed and all organic). I LOVE this place and I appreciate how friendly the staff is.

So very happy to have gotten off the beaten path to try out a new spot. We were not disappointed in any way! Funky little spot, great customer service and the burgers and fries were awesome! Smoothies made to order. New favorite while passion through Bishop!

I tried the Philly Cheese steak and the meat was packed with flavor, with yummy crisp tomato, lettuce and other condiments I'm not use to in my food that was just fantastic in this sandwich. It was their special of the day- for $8 bucks. The bread was fresh sourdough, but it was thick so I was full half way into this sandwich. Their chili is really good- spicy and they top it with avocado. Their menu is huge- malts, shakes, sandwich's, burgers of all kinds- their menu can satisfy the most picky eater. The drive to get here is off the highway in the back of this little town. The place itself is in a trailer park, the entrance to it anyway, so parking is confusing not too many spots and you could end up blocking the residents getting in and out of there. So, if you're a little pretentious you might be turned off by this place. It's all about the food though. Their bathroom- has low windows on one side which I didn't care for. It had a sign inside saying "Thank you for not stealing our toilet paper." Um......ok? So I know I"m sounding pretentious writing this, but I'm just trying to give an idea of what to expect. Overall, the food is excellent- they have benches you can sit at- or a covered patio up a flight of stairs to their joint. Really friendly service from the gals here.

Homemade, tasty, local, and filling. Everything you'd want in a burger and more. Despite being a burger joint, they have insanely tasty vegetarian options as well.

Don't let the scene drive you away, it is a must try. People were great, burger comes to you, peaceful scenery. Just finished, lettice crispy, tomato just right, special smokey barbecue sauce, meat was amazing, onion rings and jalapeños that kick. Drool factor = 10

BEST BURGERS IN TOWN, and maybe even the best I've ever had!! Everything is home made, right down to the buns!! If you're in need of a burger and are in bishop, stop by here, you don't regret it!!

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! After a 5 hour drive from LA, I was HANGRY!!! In a desperate move by my friends to passivate the raging monster inside, my friends yelped the closest place nearby and goodness gracious, it was quite a find!! All 3 of us got the cheeseburgers and for a measly $2.75 (or something), we got the locally grass fed beef! Matched that with a side of onion rings and a chocolate milk shake on the side and OMG... ~heaven~ The only negative was the local dog begging for scraps by the edge of our tables. My inner hangry monster and weak willed heart was fighting whether or not to share with him. He was so cute waiting begging for scraps, but the burger was sooooo good, I couldn't part with it. No comment on who won. Totally recommend this place!

Why aren't there more places like the Burger Barn in Bishop? My wife and I just had the best veggie burgers we've ever tasted. She had a lettuce-wrapped veggie burger with grilled onions and pepper jack, and I had mine with grilled onions, blue cheese, and avocado on homemade bread. Delicious! Cheers to Sean, the friendly mustache-wearing guy that took our order! We will definitely make this a regular stop on our trips to and from Mammoth.

holy moly these burgers are good. ryan goods = burger with bacon & blue cheese.... i advise you to get two patties . the staff are great, you can walk through the kitchen, they name all their machines - Duchess is the badass bun maker. killer crispy fries, even better milkshakes, a great background story (it's taped up, read it when you're there)....this place got it all

We have driven by this place at least once a day whenever we are up in Bishop for our annual trip. Finally stopped in and had a delicious guacamole bacon burger, large fries, and chocolate peanut butter shake. Everything was absolutely amazing. Quality food, friendly service, and fun seating. We will be back!

On the way to Mammoth I had to check out this sweet little burger place. They use local organic ingredients including grass feed beef. Their buns are made fresh as well. Ordered a Ryan Goods burger with local smoked mahogany bacon. Great flavor from the beef, cooked perfectly. It's about a mile of the the highway tucked away in front of a trailer park :-) Don't forget the chocolate shake for the road.

A year later I come back to Burger Barn and the food is the same, if not even better than I remembered. Great prices and the burgers are flavorful. The homemade bun is excellent and hold ups against the juiciness of all the other ingredients. The bacon they use is from Mahogany Smoked Meats and is a great add to a burger. Fries (regular or sweet potato) are a must order and are crispier and better than any fast food fries or even restaurant fries out there. If you want some extra veggies in your diet, a side salad is the perfect way to round out the meal. It comes with a nice assortment of peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, sprouts etc. This is definitely the place to eat in Bishop after a hard day of climbing.

Me and my gf on our way to Lake Tahoe for the weekend. We were around Bishop when we craved burgers. We yelped it and lo and behold, we found Bishop Burger Barn. Guys, I kid u not when I say this is the best burger I've ever had! (And I live in LA, dude). I've tasted A LOT of burgers. At Bishop Burger Barn, the prices are soooo affordable. I got the Western Bacon Burger while my gf got a Veggie Burger. I also got onion rings. Wow. In addition to the heavenly burger, the onion rings were truly outta this world! I wished we could go back so guess what... WE DID! On our way back from Tahoe to LA, We scheduled our trip so that we would reach Bishop as soon as they opened. We got another pair of burgers and this time, a LARGE order of onion rings. Man, I was happy! :)

Definitely a great place to stop for a great burger! Had the blue cheese burger and it was fantastic. (Sorry...forgot the official menu name ) Off the beaten path...funky-earthy-and full of deliciousness!! You can drive thru but it was cool to get out...we found a spot under the tree and had a great lunch in the shade. They are dog friendly and have a watering spot for your 4 legged loved ones We will definitely add this as our lunch spot on our monthly road trip tradition!

For the first- timer: looks are deceiving when you first drive up. Give it a go. The staff was friendly and made sure to get our order right and brought to our car in a timely fashion. Burgers, Fries, and onion rings were delicious too! We will visit again when in the area and eat there next time.

I went here once on the way to Mammoth, and once on the way back. It's good! The veggie burger wasn't my fave, but it was good. I think I just went overboard on the toppings. The grilled cheese comes on wheat bread, FYI - I'd prefer white or sourdough, but that's just me. The fries and onion rings are good. The salads are big and good. The vanilla shakes are good. Service was good. They make everything to order, so don't expect your food to magically appear 30 seconds after you order it. Bring your own beer, FTW!

Exactly what I was hoping for... Family owned, friendly, good food. Quirky, funky, and aware of lessening the impact on the environment. Also involved with the local community.

my family and I wanted to stop & eat a quick bite on our way back from a camping trip and we decided to go to Bishop Burger Barn. As we arrived my middle daughter said wow this is so cool. And it was. The workers were so nice and you could tell the owners care about you because they have seating with misters so you aren't hot:) the food was to die for..... I had the veggitarian burger with white cheddar cheese. First off it was amazing and homemade!!!! My children all got burgers and ate them all.. And also shakes which were REAL ICECREAM FOR ONCE!! Over all this restraint was great!

A great burger stop traveling to and from Mammoth. A little off the main road but still not too far out of the way. This little run down joint is very little and very run down. I know they embrace their little shack but the cob webs and ant covered tables pushed it a little too far. Now the food on the other hand is something I have no complaints about. I ordered the Ryan's Good burger and I did not regret it. The two best components of this burger are the smokey bacon and definitely the blue cheese. The blue cheese is the perfect add on to really give this burger it's great flavor. I also ordered some Beer Battered Sweet Potato Fries and some Beer Battered Onion Rings. The sweet potato fries were good but nothing too special. The onion rings were out of bounds. Easily the best onion rings I've ever had. The thick crispy outside was fried perfectly and the the taste was unbelievable. No sauce was necessary. This burger joint lives on smokey food so if you're not a fan of that I wouldn't recommend this joint. But if you are and want a great burger come dig in.

Excellent rustic decore in the heart of the Owens Valley. This Burger Barn is a throwback to the way burger joints used to be pre-ubiquitous fast food chains. I give it a 5 for food, a 5 for decor, and a 4 for providing a rustic seating environment. Add it up, and that is almost a 5 start rating. The burgers are great, and they clearly use all local meat. What other burger eateries have a tree house as a dining hall option. With William B it's a guarantee

My friends and I went on a backpacking trip in Yosemite and were heading home in need of a lot of good food, fast. We were not disappointed. Our order came out wrong but we left with more food and happy tummies. The customer service was great and very friendly! We'll definitely be back next summer!

Lookin for something besides the famous Erick Schatt Bakery on your way up to Mammoth/ Yosemite? You gotta stop at this lil hole in the wall off the beaten path in Bishop. Pretty good sized burger of amazingness at a reasonable price. Patties have the charbroiled goodness flavor on a lightly toasted bun of deliciousness. (It's not white or wheat...maybe it's potato buns...whatever it is, it's good). With the usual suspects of lettuce, tomatoes, sauce, and pickles. Also onion rings and tater tots yo. The ambiance is pretty rad with a mix of different seating arrangements. There is an upstairs patio above the kitchen. They have a doggie hang out area too. Parking can get tight if it's busy so just park across the street by the horses. And (carefully) jaywalk over. Or you can use the crosswalk. It's probably safer. Anywho, make a stop by this burger joint. Most likely you won't be disappointed.

Shannon chose Bishop Burger Barn based upon Yelp reviews and when he pulled in without warning, I said, 'We're not eating here. Are we?" At first glance, the place can look a little rough sitting at the entrance of a trailer park. After ordering our burgers and sandwiches at the window, we situated ourselves at the picnic benches, looked around and realized how quaint this little burger joint is. The server was pleasant & polite as he delivered our food in diner-styled red plastic baskets and our taste buds were suddenly delighted. I had the burger with blue cheese and Shannon had the turkey burger, neither of which came with sides, so Shannon ordered tater tots. Everything was great. Shannon thought the tots needed some flavor, but I thought they were fine. They boys had PB&J sandwiches. For anyone who has kids knows how picky kids can be. The fact that it had crust was bad enough but the bread had nuts in it! I had to do some extra coaxing to get them to overcome this crisis. LOL. I can see why the Yelp reviews are overwhelmingly positive. When you are driving on these roads where the Hills-Have-Eyes', places like BBB are a pleasant surprise. The bonus was that the bathroom was very nice. (Oh. And for you tree-huggers ... they recycle. Woohoo!) This will be our regular stop now when we drive between Las Vegas & Lake Tahoe. It won't be often mind you, but BBB is worth putting on our travel itinerary map.

Would definitely go again. Had the bacon guac burger and sweet potato fries. The bacon is amazing and the guac was great, too! The patty could have been just SLIGHTLY more juicy but otherwise I have no complaints. My bf got the green chili burger (the cook said that the green chilies come from New Mexico - legit!). Some of the best sweet potato fries I've ever had -- too bad they don't have a chipotle ranch dipping sauce (anything besides ketchup). I would love to come back and try more. It's a really cute place stuck between a mobile home park, a house, and the street. Kitchy Bishop charm.

One of my fave spots to hit every time I head up to Mammoth for a weekend of skiing =) Veggie Burger: 4 stars Ingredients are so fresh & yummy that makes me want to come back here every-time. I haven't had a veggie burger at any other places that makes a veggie burger as good as this place =) They grow most of the ingredients that they use here. Double cheese burger: 5 stars Meat patties was so tasty & delicious. this is one of the best burger patties I've ever had. Strawberry Milkshake: 5 stars They made their milk shakes fresh here...go perfectly with the burger & fries. =) Indoor seating is very small, they should expand this area. Outdoor parking: they had expanded this recently, so this will help handle the crowds that come in. Tip: You can customize your burger any way you want. They have a pretty extensive menu to choose from. =) Overall, this place is a little off the main road but it's totally worth the drive to enjoy a yummy meal.

The food was good and the atmosphere very interesting. It was packed when I went there on Labor Day and they seemed short-staffed, it took nearly an hour from the time I got there until I got my food (including time standing in line), but I'm thinking this was just a fluke. The service was very friendly and the premises, including the restroom, very clean. The kitchen is tiny but appears very efficient. I would go back if it's not as crowded, but I'm not sure I would wait an hour again for a meal from here.

Don't miss this off the beaten path gem in Bishop. Let me start by saying this review could have easily been a 5 if my burger wasn't slightly over cooked, because everything else was perfection down to the funky little setting. They make everything from scratch- dressing, buns, burger meat mix, etc. Ordered a cheeseburger with white cheddar, red onion, mayo, lettuce, and ketchup with fries and another burger with blue cheese, bacon, grilled onions and mayo with onion rings with their peppery ranch dressing. The burger blend had great flavor- wish they were cooked medium/ medium rare rather than well- all the toppings were fresh and accompanied they burgers. Bun was okay- not great. Burgers a 4 overall. Rings and fries - top notch- 5 stars! Service- owner/operator with obvious passion for his food and service being great. Atmosphere- kitschy, no frills and open air - wish there was more seating and parking.

So my family and I were taking a drive out to Mammoth and we decided to stop and have some lunch. Decided that the one thing that everyone would agree with was burgers. Looked this place up on Yelp and boy am I glad we stopped here and not at some McDonalds or Subway. These are the best burgers I have ever had from a little hole in the wall place! Definitely will stop here again!!!

Went to try there burgers after reading so many positive reviews about them. Will let me tell you there burgers are delicious. Went the first day and tried there western burger it was so good the meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. Also ordered a basket of fries and onion rings and they were awesome. Went back the next day and ordered a double cheeseburger and it was heaven. Can't believe how good this place is. Yes it does look like a barn very easy to miss this place if you don't pay attention. There service is top notch. They bring the food to you with a smile. Two thumps up to the people that work there. Will be visiting them again for sure when I'm up there.

Wow! This has to be the most unusual burger place I've ever visited. It's right in front of a trailer park so it doesn't really jump out and the outdoor seating is scattered all over the property. Unique! After ordering from a handwritten menu, I moved to a picnic table which was probably the farthest seat from the order window. Shorty later a runner bolted from the kitchen, called my name and sprinted to my table with my burger and fries! Amazing! BTW, the food was excellent!

Very cool place! I got the special green chile - bacon - muenster cheeseburger. I got too much on it, though, I should have stuck with just that stuff and maybe some thousand island, but I got lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles on it, too, and it was really hard to eat! But it was delicious! You can pay more and get Bishop-raised beef, which I didn't do, but it was great, regardless. My boyfriend and I split some fries, which were top-notch. Other than the food, the atmosphere is very cool. You sit outside on random furniture arrangements and there is a boxed garden and a fire pit. Lots of character! I found the staff to be a bit dry, though, not very friendly or talkative. Nice, welcoming people always add to an atmosphere like that so maybe they should work on that!

We decided to give the burger barn a try since our 395 favorites were closed for the season and I just couldn't deal with Schats at all. Exceedingly charming place tucked out of the way in a very funky setting with a laid back attitude featuring a very friendly staff and a cute puppy out back. Atmosphere: I liked that it was in front of a trailer park and was pretty funky (in a really good way). The boys loved running around the little grassy part and playing with the puppy out back. Joey wanted to take it home. There is an eclectic assortment of various tables tables next to a shack of some, tables in a grassy area, and tables perched on top of another building which afforded amazing views of the mountains. Food The food was good featuring Bishop-raised grass fed beef and lots of wonderful things (grilled onions, avocado, pepper jack) to add to your burger. My burger was pretty good, considering I am not a burger person. The fries were crispy. Two points. The husband and child liked their shakes. My water was excellent! Fear not, there was also a veggie burger - which was out of stock today - and a free range turkey burger. The food was good, but not super fast. I'd say the good was good, service was not fast, but fine. Pros: local beef, housemade buns, tator tots, outdoor seating (when the weather is nice), staff seemed friendly It is now on my list of preferred eateries along with Walker Burger, Mono Cone and Whoa Nellie Deli.

Knowing I would be stopping in Bishop on my up Hwy 395 to Rock Creek i checked Yelp for cheap eats (cheap in price, mind you, not quality) and immediately zero'd in on this place as a result of all the glowing reviews. Burger Barn lived up to the hype! Burgers were juicy, substantial and knocked out the hunger pangs i was having after being on the road for 4 hours. will be stopping here every time I'm in town just like i do at Schats Bakkery.... well recommended to everyone......

As I drove west from Bishop, I noticed their sign, which I do not recall seeing before. On my way back from fishing, I stopped by to try them out. On the July 4th weekend, it was 103 degrees and windy that day, I was dying while waiting in line. There was only a netting that was strung up for shade. I had ordered The 'Goods' burger combo with regular fries. This was topped with Bleu cheese and locally made Smokehouse bacon. I enjoyed the the burger and fries, but the heat and wind made me rush my eating experience. I ate on their upper deck, which had misters and I hope they get more seats setup below with shade, as there is only two tables. BTW, they have a drive thru.

Love this place! I've been coming to the bishop area every summer for years now and I just found this place. They have awesome veggie burgers and sweet potato fries. My boyfriend loved his pulled pork special so much, he had to try the burger as well! Great family business to support.

this is SO not your traditional burger place. they pride themselves on their quality and uniqueness. beer batteted o rings are really good. I overheard a manager or owner talking about running out of buns and serving protein burgers to not compromise quality.

Gotta go big on this - even if the kids aren't too stoked. The slowish sometimes service doesn't matter when you get the food. Great shakes. Great fried food. Get a veggie burger with bacon. Super good

This place is legit! Worth the detour from the normal route. Gourmet Burger with a view! The setting and style of business will seem foreign but once you bite into your burger you will feel right at home. I had "the goods" burger. Bleu cheese was amazing. The whole meal was amazing.

Fresh, handmade, black bean veggie burger patties on homemade buns! So good! I love the seating up above the kitchen in the treehouse, the views from up there are amazing. Delicious burgers in a beautiful valley. What more could you ask for?

My boyfriend and I were debating where to eat lunch on one of our regular trips to Bishop when he came across The Burger Barn on Yelp. After seeing the high rating and the fact it was a mile from our current location, we decided to stop for lunch. We nearly missed it because vegetation was partially covered the sign. We had looked at their website for their menu, which is slightly outdated. When you order, you have the option of choosing either Angus beef at regular menu price (which is a steal!) or local raised, grass fed beef for $2.50 more (I think.). He sprung for that on the Goods burger and it was delicious. You really can taste the difference in the meat. I felt there was a little too much bleu cheese on it (to me, it overpowered everything on the burger), but I still can't believe they use the amount of imported bleu cheese they do for the price. I got a grilled chicken sandwich. It was served on herb ciabatta bread with orange tomatoes, greens and while the sign said pesto mayo, I didn't detect pesto (it tasted more like garlic mayo to me). It was decent, but I think next time I'll have a burger. The fries were delicious, but I have to say, the onion rings were really overpriced. An order was $4.95 and we got 5 rings. Sure, they were big and yummy, but $1 per onion ring is a little much. The ranch was a little thin, but superyummy. The staff was very nice and the location was awesomely quirky. The upstairs eating area has a mister system - which is great if you are there when it's hot. Overall, this place has small town charm and the food is delicious and fairly priced (other than the onion rings). If you want a unique experience (and a chance to taste truly local grass fed beef), check out the Burger Barn. Your stomach and wallet will thank you.

The Burger Barn is a rustic jewel. We caught the reviews on Yelp about 7pm and sped over for dinner. On the outside it looks like a roadside shack but on the inside they are making magic. All the reviews here are fair and accurate. The food is great. The burgers are well seasoned and full of flavor. All the components of the burger seem to blend together. You can taste everything but no item overpowers the other items. The sweet tater fries are light, crispy and delicious. The shake is a must have even if you just share one. The ambiance is fun and rustic. You will pay a little more for the food but it is all well worth it. This is definitely a gourmet burger spot. If you're passing through Bishop, or here for a visit, you must stop in and try the Burger Barn.

Home made veggie burger wrapped in lettuce with a beautiful side salad and yummy charred tomato vinegarette!! Yum! Hubby got the goods burger with side salad, too. He liked it slot. Fries looked good. Plus stars for mister patio, spoonful of the chocolate milkshake and nice people!

On our way to mammoth and wanted something off the main drag in bishop. Found this gem... Great burgers, fries and grilled cheese. Prices are great... Locals eat there so you know it has to be good. Good views of the mountains as well.

These guys are bosses. I have a severe peanut allergy and they were super accommodating and incredibly nice the whole time. They thoroughly cleaned all the preparation surfaces to be extra safe and even cleaned whatever they use to make milkshakes because I wanted one. But it wasn't just the amazing service. They are the destroyers of the burger making world. Definitely one of the best burgers I have ever had. It was just a genuine burger with that freshly made feel and taste, none of that freezer crap. I'm definitely gonna make a stop here every time I come out to this part of the state. Keep killin the burgers Burger Barn.

I used to come here fairly often when it first opened a few years ago, and but there was an issue with some sort of code compliance, and so it closed down for a while. It's open again and it's better than ever! Really fresh ingredients, tasty malts, and good service. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Bishop. I had the bleu cheese bacon burger, sweet potato fries, and a chocolate malt. It was all prepared to order, and delicious. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the burger. The buildings look sort of ramchackle, but don't be put off! The food is just fantastic. Definitely one of those small mom and pop operations that make quality food at fair prices. It reminds me of one of those places you'd see on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" shows... Oh, they do take plastic, too. They use a tablet and the Square service to process credit or debit card transactions. I'll be coming back for sure!

Oh ya. After a long day of climbing this hits the SPOT!! Fresh grilled burgers, crisp toppings, sweet grilled onions, ahhhh such a pleasant surprise to find such an awesome burger joint in such a small town. Got the hamburger with lettuce pickle tomato and grilled onion with reg fries Boyfriend for the Dirty Hippie (veggie burger with bacon) and sweet potato fries. I think mine was better (!) but their veggie patty is super tasty! It onion rings are clutch too ;D awesomeeeee

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Fairly new place in Bishop, family is very nice and the burgers are extra tasty. The chef explained that he is used to high end food, and decided to make high end burgers. I had the burger with mahogany bacon and Danish blue cheese. Super tasty and with a homemade bun. Good stop if you're headed to Mammoth

Great burgers!!! Stopped by here on way home from Tahoe. Its on a trailor park. Don't be fooled by the "curb appeal". Ordered the The Goods Burger, a cheeseburger, and hamburger. Goods was tasty if you like Bleu Cheese. Otherwise, stick to Cheeseburger. Tried the Chocolate, Mango, and Blueberry shake. Chocolate shake was the BEST. Crispy fries was yummy. Didn't care for the sweet potato fries. Be prepared to wait for your order. This is not fast food.

The burgers were great and had to settle for tater tots since they were out of fries. Don't expect this place to be clean. After finishing our drinks, I was going to fill up my cup with water. After opening the lid, I found a bunch of black ants cruising around inside my finished root beer. How can that go unnoticed as one fills the drink? I don't know if it's the oblivious employee or just a "good 'ol boy" way of prejudice people treating visitors around here, but I was on the way to giving this place 5 stars before the ant incident.

Simply the best burgers in the Sierra Nevada's. When you're looking for a real handmade burger this is the place. The blue cheese is fantastic and so is the locally smoked bacon. Real good food with a real good taste. Will eat there again for sure.

Absolutely terrific. Everything about this spot is spot on awesome. We were in Bishop for the first time and checked yelp for a good spot to grab some lunch. As you can see, this place had a ton of five stars, so it made sense to check it out. Without a doubt, those five stars are warranted. The place is owned by a young couple who really have a passion for fresh, organic, homemade food. We ended up chatting with the wife-owner and she told us how the beef they use is from a cow they purchased just two miles down the road at a ranch, how they use only fresh organic veggies (a worker came out to grab fresh herbs growing in a garden nearby for a sandwich), and how they make their own ice cream (including homemade mint chocolate chip from fresh mint in that same herb garden). She gave us a sample of their chocolate ice cream and man, super creamy and delicious. We ordered some as dessert after we scarfed down our cheeseburgers, tots, and fries. Everything was spectacular, from food to conversation to seating up on a perched balcony with misters to cool down the hot summer air. Definitely a must go in Bishop.

After loosing my job as the person who picked the places to eat on a recent fishing trip one of my buddies picked this place. We blew by it the first time little hard to see with the tree cover and it set back off the road at the entrance to a trailer park. But there is a sign and some flags flying that should have caught our eye's. I had the cheese burger with bacon and asked for a lettuce wrap no problem came out looking great and tasted just as good as it looked my buddies all had the cheese burgers and fries. Everyone thought the burgers were great and we would come back if we were going to be here for more the 4 days. The only thing that annoyed use was it was a windy day and the water misters were blowing on us too much. I also recommend you pay with cash as they do debit card on a tablet. If you enjoy a great burger this is your place in Bishop Wish I would have recommended this place first I would have kept my job as the person to find everyone a place to eat.

Don't be afraid! Burger Barn is located at the entrance to a mobile home park but the service is friendly and the burgers are really tasty! Highly recommend stopping here and the milk shakes and ice cream are delicious!

These guys are really friendly and the food is great. They usually forget something in our order or are out of something. That's why they're only getting four stars. They make their own buns and malts. The burgers are excellent. Their homemade balsamic salad dressing looks like a solid, but no worries, it tastes good!

Stopped here on the way back from Lake Tahoe. I'm so glad we took the few minutes to find this place rather than stopping for fast food. Burgers were really good and came with a lot of toppings - there were many combinations to choose from and the buns they used were awesome. I got a side salad with my burger for $2. I was expecting a couple pieces of iceberg lettuce, but got a huge serving of fresh spring mix with homemade charred tomato dressing. Yum! Blueberry milkshake was also delicious and you could tell they used real blueberries. I will definitely return here if I'm ever traveling through Bishop again.

Took a while for me to finally eat here, as I never thought there'd be anything a vegetarian could eat at a place called Burger Barn. Until I heard they made their own veggie burgers from scratch. Divine! Seriously good. Their fries are delicious too. We first went in February and have been 4 or 5 times since. Prices are very affordable. Fun (and admittedly funky) ambiance, including the only place you can eat in Bishop with 360 degree views of the mountains - upstairs on the upper porch. When it's cold out, they have a fire pit so you can stay warm while you wait for your food to come. Everything is prepared from scratch: their ice cream is home made, their meat is ground there, and they have creative menu items that work. At this point, it is outdoor dining only, although that may be changing soon (looks like they working on expanding the seating areas). There is a drive-through too. Super-friendly service, and they totally support the local community. All-around great place and a slice of quirky Bishop.

I was in Bishop and decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews. As I was driving down the street I was wondering if I had got the address wrong because the area looked residential. It is :-^. Bishop Burger Barn is essentially built around a home. You drive through the yard on the left, circle the house, and order at what looks like it must have been the garage at one point. That part was really surreal. This is not a commercial-looking restaurant. That said, a young woman took my burger order (from an extensive menu), I pulled forward, a few minutes later they brought it to my car, and the burger was absolutely fantastic! Very fresh, cooked perfectly, very tasty. I wish I lived in the area so that I could eat here more often. Don't be put off by the setting. The food is top-notch!

On the far side of funky, but excellent burgers and fries and attention and view. Truly casual and accommodating!

  • Gabe K.

5 stars for me means the food or the price is exceptional. Neither was the case for me. I do like the funky, off the beaten path location. However, out of the 5 items I tried, nothing was exceptional. The bread was so thick it smothered the over-charred thin piece of beef in my burger. The shake was disappointing as it was not very chocolately or creamy. The sweet potato fries were so fried that I couldn't taste sweet potato. Also, 5 onion rings cost $5, which is way too expensive for a trailer town.

Just a great burger. Go for the local grass fed beef patty. Their homemade lemonade is excellent.

  • Brisa S.

I found this burger joint on Yelp. My brother, friend, and myself stopped by on the way back home from Mammoth. We had been snowboarding all day and wanted to eat a good burger. Well this was definitely the spot. All 3 of us got the Goods burger. Let me tell you that it was DELICIOUS. Everything about the burger was so fresh, and don't forget the fries because they are just as good as everything else. Whenever you're in Bishop for a good burger stop by Bishop Burger Barn. You won't regret it.

Well I sure do love everything about this place the food is great and atmosphere is good as well.! The only downside is when I explained to an employee that there were 2 flies in my fries his response was "there's nothing I can do about it". I hadn't even finished my lunch? And I was ordering a shake! Like come on no discount at all for apologies. I will return but no longer in the summer that's for sure.

EAT HERE, that should be enough said. These folks run a great little business. Don't be dissuaded by the funky look when you drive up. The food is great and the people are really nice and work hard. They have local beef for burgers when they can get it and use the best ingredients in all their food. This isn't just another greasy burger joint. There are always new interesting specials on the menu. They make their own ice cream and have a gazillion flavors of milkshakes to choose from. The onion rings and sweet potato fries are to die for. They cater to meat eaters and vegetarians. When in Bishop make sure this is on your list of places to stop. Limited seating-get your food to go and eat in one of the nice parks in town

The service and food were so fantastic here, that I had to write a review. First of all, lovely staff. Very friendly and they really care that you enjoy your meal. Homemade burgers and buns. My boyfriend and I had the blue cheese burger with bacon. YUM! Perfect meal after a week of backpacking! We had the regular french fries and they were great...perfectly crunchy on the outside. Love the dogs running around the place too. Nice 2nd floor patio - made us feel like we were eating in a treehouse! Will come back here for more delicious burgers/fries and to try the famous shakes the next time we're in Bishop.

If you can look past the run down surroundings, then this is the place for you! The burgers are made from high quality meat and the buns were so fresh. The fries, are amazing. The malts were even better, with many options to choose from. It's also BYOB, which makes it even better as you sit outside near the fire with good food and family. We will definitely be stopping here again.

If you blink, you'll miss this out-of-the-way, rundown-looking shack in front of a trailer park...but don't blink. This is a first-class burger joint! Everything is fresh made, the hamburger buns are made in-house as well as the ice cream. And speaking of ice cream, be sure to treat yourself to a shake. They're made the old fashioned way and they're thick, creamy, and taste the way a shake should...not like those chem concoctions that one gets in most places these days. This is a real food find.

Thank you, Yelpers from saving me from any future visits to that tourist trap along the main road. In a quest to find something healthy and delicious and NOT touristy, a five-starred Burger Barn glowed at the top of my search. I could not have been more thrilled. Burger Barn is not just lunch, it is an experience. Amazing outdoor set-up where you order from a walk-up window and grab a seat at a picnic table overlooking the mountains and maybe a few horses across the street. Everything is so fresh, the burgers are incredible, and I've never had a "side salad" this good anywhere but a fancy pants restaurant. It was like real salad... no chintzy iceberg and bagged carrot shreds here. Solid assortment of fresh salad greens, fresh carrots, and even a few bell peppers... all with a side of homemade dressing of choice. I love the locavore philosophy and Burger Barn's belief in using locally sourced foods and making their product right on sight. I only wish I had room for a milkshake as they seem to be quite popular among the other reviewers. I haven't been back to Bishop lately, but am tempted to make the drive just to get a burger and enjoy some fresh air. Sandwich and HFCS pastry shop NO MORE! Burger Barn is officially my new pitstop, or even destination, next time I am in town.

Would not have found this place without Yelp since you have to turn off of 395 to find it, but it was definitely worth the visit. We stopped on the way home from skiing Mammoth and the food and service were amazing. Highly recommend!

Great veggie burgers. Really! And views of mules and the Sierras. Well worth the two mile trek from 395.

Great housemade burgers, shakes and fries! Nice to have a veggie option too. Great prices and great vibe. Love the 'drive thru'!

Really good. They care about their food and it shows. My husband and I tried to split a shake but it was so good we had to go back and buy a second one! :) The onion rings are awesome too! We'll be back.

My family and I went to the Burger Barn after reading all of the 5-star reviews. Let me tell you, they are well deserved. We drove down from the lakes after a day of fishing and were wet and starved from being caught in a hail fall. The place doesn't look like much, but don't judge the book by its cover. There's nothing fancy about it...in fact its at the entrance to a trailer park, but the food was outstanding. I ordered the cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. The meat was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. So different from other places that don't even bother shaking a little salt on the meat. The lettuce was crisp and the tomato was ripe and juicy. The cheese was really great, too- perfectly melted, none of that fake stuff, either. Oh, and I can't forget to mention the thousand island dressing the spread on the bread. It mixes with the juices from the meat and makes for a very juicy- run-down-your-hand meal. The sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious. My husband hamburger was just as good as mine, except he got it without the cheese. My daughter ordered a chocolate shake with her burger and she loved it. The next time we're in Bishop, we will definitely be visiting the burger barn again.

Seriously, the best hamburger I've had in years! If you want to stick to the big burger chains, go there -- but this place has burgers and sweet potato fries to die for. There is a drive through or sit down service -- the only hitch in the drive through is that you need to enter from around the back, just keep the driver side toward the window. (you'll know what I mean when you get there). It's under new management -- they grind their own meat, make their own buns and ice cream. Worth trying!!

Loved the food, atmosphere, and the staff. This is defiantly the hidden gem of Bishop. I had a burger, with Mahogany Smoked Meats bacon on it and some great cheese. The fries were outstanding and very unique. I finished it off with a chocolate milk shake that was hand stirred and delicious. My new favorite place in Bishop!

I dig this place. #1 - I can't speak for the burgers cause I didn't try one of those but I can speak for the onion rings and ice cream. #2 - onion rings = really good! They are beer battered, have great flavor, are fried but actually do have a nice size onion in each ring (I can't stand it when I order onion rings and there isn't barely even of a hint of onion in the ring!). #3 - On a whim I decided to get some ice cream on my way out the last time and WOW, am I thrilled I did. It's home made and has delicious flavor!! I had a bit of chocolate and vanilla and walked away from that experience saying to my husband, "I think that's some of the best ice cream I've ever had!" If you go, please treat yourself and get some :). #4 - I dig the atmosphere here. It's really casual outdoor seating with a nice view of the mountains. Nothing fancy but speaks to the charm and character of this unique restaurant. #5 - The only reason I'm giving this a four star is because the drive thru window and in-dining order window are one in the same. This made for some pretty tight quarters when my husband, dog and I were waiting in line to order and a big pick-up truck drove up to order at the same time. If I were this business, I'd separate these and have one window for drive thru and another for in-dining orders. Overall this place has such charm, character, good service and great food so, really, if you're driving thru Bishop, I'd say it's a must stop.

Burgers were tasty and delicious. The ingredients were home grown and homemade, down to the buns. We got 3 burgers +large fries + large oreo shake for $27. The only downside was the wait. About 20 waiting to order and another 10-15 to receive the food. However, besides the wait, everything was great.

Favorite place in Bishop. Cute outdoor dining area, delicious vegetarian options, great service! Also serve delicious Black Sheep coffee. Across from Sierra Vet, watch horses rehabilitate as you dine!!!

Of all the post-climbing or long-drive-interupting places to catch a bite in Bishop, this is my favorite. Parking blows, but the milk shakes make up for it. Every burger on the menu is delicious as well. Seating is outdoor and pretty nice in the warmer months, bring a coat if its winter time.

My teenage neighbor ate there a few months ago and got sick. You order at the counter, and there is no table service but if you don't tip generous amount when you order, staff will be unfriendly right away. So bring extra changes to tip these guys.

So I'm already bored in hour 2 of our 8 hour road trip so I decide to find a place for lunch. The recommendations for the burger barn convince me its worth a stop. Their location is about a mile off 395 and it's not a sit down, conventional restaurant. Instead they have a walk up (or drive up) window and several picnic tables. They serve local beef from Bishop and make all of their own buns (regular and gluten free). We each got a local burger, very good flavor with several options for toppings. I think the buns really put the meal over the top, good flavor but also able to stand up with the juicy burger patty. We also got fries and onion rings, I thought the fries were better but the family out voted me and said the onion rings were best, more fries for me that way! They offer coke and ice tea, I'm not sure if they had other drink options or milkshakes or anything like that. Bishop Burger Barn is definitely worth the short drive off 395 for lunch or dinner!

With such a varied menu and so many different styles of burgers, you could come here many times to try something new. I was attracted to the fact that they have bison burgers and grass-fed local angus burgers. I especially enjoyed the latter with their perfectly prepared sweet potato fries. Every order is made to order so be prepared to wait even if you drive-thru - but good things come to those who wait. There is a lovely garden area with patio tables so you can enjoy your drink until your food is brought out, also the staff is friendly and welcoming :)

  • Accountability C.

Great food. Service OK. Burgers, fries, onion rings are amazing. Skip the lemonade and tea because they were both really strong and bitter. They need to do taste tests with every "homemade" batch they make. Got a few things on our order wrong... fixed one but didn't mention the other things to them since we chose to just eat them as is. Great for a one time try.

There is no simplicity about this burger. On our way home from Mammoth and we happened about this restaurant. Was an excellent choice! At first we were a little taken back by the location of this restaurant but we were glad we chose to eat here. I had the pastrami burger and my husband had the bacon avocado burger, both were delicious and beyond our expectations. Buns were hand made. The price was decent as well. The only reason why I am giving this a four and not a five is because I had trouble eating the burger, but hey.. To each his own...

  • Phil G.

Disorganized, inefficient and delicious! (Note to owner - Don't change a thing but if you have to grow, do it without losing what it is that makes you unique) Don't come here if you are looking for the model of efficiency. Come here if you are looking for a fantastic hamburger with many choices on toppings, served by a hard working staff that is very friendly and appear to really enjoy what they are doing.

Coming home from Mammoth I wanted a good burger. My husband looked this place up and we decided to give a try. A little off the 395 Hwy we thought we might be going the wrong way but then out of no where there it sat, BURGER BARN. It looks like something out of a movie. Pieced together in an odd shape that somehow makes it work charmingly. It surprisingly has a drive thru although the walk up window is the same so you find yourself walking through the drive through, which is funny. There are a lot of trees covering the "building" so there are shady spots throughout. The menu is extensive for burger lovers and my son was happy to find a BLT too. My 1/4 lb. burger with cheese, bacon, and avocado was amazing!! The onioin rings and fries were also delicious and for once the kids finished their meals. One of the best burgers I have ever had!! The tables are scattered throughout the front and side yard with mismatched furniture and in the back is a private residence of mobile home parks. Very interesting. They bring your food out to you which is friendly and the customer service was great! We splurged and got milkshakes afterwards, homemade ice cream, what a treat. This is worth the trip.....Go there for sure!

  • Bob W.

There are only 4 parking spaces, and they are always full. The sign suggests you park along the highway, but the neighbors have put up signs saying "No Parking." Fail. The window serves both walk-up customers and drive-thru customers, which to me seems dangerous. You walk there, but a car is blocking the window. You try to drive through, but people are standing there randomly, blocking you. Fail. You finally get to the window, and the prices are higher than the prices shown on their web site. Fail.

Driving down 395 highway and was cravin a burger joint so I chose this place because of the reviews. The veggie burger was really good and loved the texture of nuts but wish they didn't use iceberg lettuce :/ It cost about $10 a person if you want fries with your burger. Overall it's a cool little place.

  • steven c.

Most excellent joint to eat at after a week in the backcountry. Although I could only report on the quality of veggie burger- which is about as well as a black bean burger can be made (and that is not to slander by false praise- it really was delicious). From the menu posted, the buns are freshly baked-works for me. The burger was a beast, extra onions and added jalapeños, mushrooms and mushrooms. No I am not depriving myself by being veg. From second hand reports of others in my group the non veggie burgers were also excellent. Fries crispy, fresh malts, and prices reasonable. A cold beer would have been the capper but let's not be greedy. All in all very satisfied group rolling out for a long drive home.

Soooo yummy! I have gone here about five times this year alone after long hikes in the backcountry and this place has nailed it every time! Excellent and fun burger selections ranging from meat to veggie. I love that the veggie burger is tasty and filling - I always add mushrooms and grilled onions. #dankness. Husband orders western BBQ (onion rings on it!). The one thing I wish they had was some sort of sauce for the tater tots (yeah, you read that right! Tater tots!). You know, some sort of melted cheese...Mmmm! That's what happens after a long weekend of backpacking, you turn into a fatty! Cheese or no cheese, I can never finish a burger and an order of tots. Totally worth stopping! Oh, and bring Fido! Plenty of shade and even water!

This is my favorite burger place in the world. They have local pasture raised high quality beef, fresh made ice cream which is divine and an eclectic location - it's a local's favorite and mine as well. I had a lettuce wrapped double cheese burger - my friend had a Nutella ice cream shake and he let me taste it. It was amazing. A while I ago I had a fresh made strawberry shake that was the best I can recall.

We stopped here on our way to Mammoth - what a sweet little spot. Great staff. Great view. Tasty food. My girlfriend and I each ordered the homemade veggie burger - delicious!!! The fries were fresh and they even make their own buns. Check this place out! They are doing it right. Support small business!

I cannot for the life of me figure out how they achieved this rating. It appeared to be a mobile home snack bar. It was tough just finding someone to take our order. The food was lousy, and over priced, the picnic benches had dog poop all around. I was embarrassed that I had asked my family to skip Carl's Junior to go 3 miles out of our way for such a bad experience. I lost trust in Yelp ratings altogether after this experience.

    (2)
  • Kristin S.

At first glance one might question the validity of the Yelp rating, but after the first bite you will understand. Pros: high quality thoughtful food. Burger buns are homemade, Angus Grade meat, homemade ranch dressing and ice cream. Lemonade is fresh squeezed. Salads are visual works of art. The owner took time out to share her and her husband's philosophy of the food they create. They have a sense of humor ( c'mon a veggie patty with bacon called a "dirty hippie"). They even let us sample their delectable homemade caramel ice cream. Cons: All outdoor seating. Not the prettiest location in the block. I will be returning to this establishment on my way to Mammoth, not only to experience one of the most delicious burgers I've ever tasted but to also visit the nicest people in Bishop.

While a little off the beaten path this place is really worth finding. It is by far the best burger joint. They bake their own bread. They have a hot grill that carmelizes the beef patties without over cooking the meat. All the sides are excellent, whether you get the fries, sweet potato fries, battered sweet potato fries, or onion rings you won't be disappointed. The shakes and malts are hand dipped and custom made just the way you want them. To top it off, the staff are warm and friendly. I highly recommend this place.

The Burger Barn is Premium Fuel for the Mountains! We did lettuces wraps and they served the best Butter Lettuce and the bacon was great. The venue is perfectly unique and creative although it's put together on a low budget, everything was very clean. Here is a video of my experience. vimeo.com/114728216

Wow! GREAT FOOD! Best burgers ever! The place is charmingly funky with outside only seating--and yet--because it was a bit cold and breezy, they made a table available inside! The staff was great: Shawn was informative, creative, funny, and helpful, and Mike's a great server. We chose the special: green chili burger with pepper jack, added locally smoked bacon and avocado to make the best burger anywhere! Grass fed local beef, perfect bun (3 years to perfect the recipe)---and I haven't even mentioned the sweet potato fries or shakes! THIS is the place in Bishop we'll choose every time!

  • Kari R.

Wow great hidden gem!! Best side salad ever, not just the typical iceberg this was packed with fresh produce yumm... I could have had this as my meal. Was looking forward to the grass fed beef, but they where out. We will be back our next trip thru town.

We made a quick stop here on our way down south and we were so delighted with this gem! Awesome, towering burgers, homemade buns and lots of toppings to choose from. Sweet potato fries rocked and we loved every thing about our dinner here. A great deal for really good burgers. We'll be back!

  • Nina F.

This is consistently one of my favorite places in Bishop. We're gluten-free and there's not many places you can get a really good gluten-free burger. Here they do it right! They make their own buns (very good ones) and the ingredients are excellent = local grass-fed beef (or bison), local bacon, blue cheese, sautéed mushrooms etc. plus super tasty sweet potato fries (my favorite). If you're feeling decadent the milkshakes are just delectable too. I love the funky, kinda grunge decor too. We'll definitely be back, as we always do.

  • Tom K.

Great burgers and the location is quaint, reckoning to a time when burger shacks were the standard mode of delivery for America's favorite dish. The Burger Barn lacks some polish, but the food is obviously made with pride using quality ingredients. Shakes are excellent, made from scratch. If you're in Bishop, this place is a must-try.

  • Carla O.

Great, great, great! Even with a lot of food allergies, and celiac (no gluten), I was able to enjoy their turkey burger on a gluten-free bun. I can't remember the last time I had a 'burger'...and, it was super tasty. Their cook even came out to go over the ingredients with me, and they make sure to mark your order as "allergy" versus "preference"... I like how they source locally as much as possible, too. This is our official post-Sierras spot!

    (5)
  • amanda m.

So, yeah, if you're in town, you should make it a priority to stop and eat here. They have something for everyone and are sensitive and accommodating to those with food allergies. I had the turkey burger, side salad with charred tomato dressing, and a chocolate banana shake. It was soooooo good! I shared some tater tots and beer-battered, sweet potato fries with a friend, and they were also fan-frickin'-tastic! It was the perfect cap off to a long day of backpacking.

Saw this place off the road when driving back to LA from camping. Good thing we stopped in!!! LOVE how one of a kind it is. Was a really hot day, and the patio had these awesome misters that both helped keep us cool and added an awesome ambiance that sort of felt like being in Hawaii. Plus, DOG friendly! The burgers were awesome too, super fresh veggies and flavorful patties. And I don't even like burgers! I got the turkey burger in a lettuce wrap, and really appreciated how it was green leaf lettuce, not that iceburgy BS cheaper places use that'll just fall apart in your hands. Like I said, I'm a girl who's always like "Ughhh can't we get just get anything EXCEPT burgers," and I couldn't put this one down. If you're going burgering anywhere around Bishop, this is the place to do it.

I travel to Bishop for outdoors activities several times a year and tend to find things a bit slim in the eating department. So it was a really pleasant surprise to discover the Burger Barn! I was looking for something quick and inexpensive and this place fits the bill. What I really liked is Burger Barn's dedication to providing natural and (when possible) locally sourced ingredients. I had a hamburger with my choosing of toppings, a coffee shake, and iced tea. It's notable that they make their own ice cream and iced tea: both were perfect. The burger was just plain awesome. Bonus points for being aware that a big climber festival was going on that weekend! The place has interesting and usual decor (you'll be sitting outside... great character! This will be a regular stop for me in the future!

This is a tough review to write. You've got to know that this is a great place, and it deserves to be very successful, but i don't want Guy Fieri showing up with the film crew. It's off the beaten path in Bishop, but it's very easy ti find. We were there today, President's Day, the third day of a holiday weekend, and it had been a good weekend for them. They sold out of many of the items that we wanted, but they were gracious about it, and we loved the burgers that we got. My burger had blue cheese, bacon and all the usuals, and my wife had the cheddar cheese burger. We also had onion rings and french fries, all done well. You might want to know that the decor is incredibly funky, and, on this visit, the site was under construction. There building a little prep room next to their existing kitchen, as success has created a demand for their product. If your looking for fancy, inside, air conditioned, and high maintenance, this is probably not a spot for you. It is important to know yourself and your needs. Beyond this, it looks like they are also attempting to buy as much of their supplies from local sources. One of their signs even asked if the reader was a local rancher. If so, they wanted to talk. So, if you're looking for a change as you drive through Bishop, or even if your a local, this place will have a burger to fit your budget and taste. Please though, don't tell Guy Fieri.

Loved this place! Doggie-friendly, cute eclectic decor, helpful staff, perfect burger-break after a trek in the mountains. It's off the main road (Hwy. 395) where all the chain burger joints are-- don't be tempted by them! Turn west on Line Street and it's on your right just a little ways down. It's so worth it!

  • Joshua R.

Awesome burger... everything locally farm fresh.. one word to describe this place "fresh"

    (4)
  • Kristin K.

A little off of the 395 and well worth the detour. Had a pepper jack cheeseburger (my first this year) and fries. All the veg on the burger was perfectly ripe and the meat was fine. French fries were the weak spot. Seating was pretty open when we dined but I could see where you might have to wait. Husband had the veggie burger and he seemed underwhelmed by it.

  • Theodore J.

If you want a good burger, many to choose from, and a great shake made with real good ice cream, also many to choose from, this is the place. French fries, sweet potato fries and tator tots. Local smoked mahogany bacon on their burgers. Choice of local raised beef option. It's All Good! When is Guy going to feature on Triple D?

    (5)
  • Carri M.

Set off the main highway (395), hidden in what seems to be a driveway for a manufactured or mobile home park ( not sure only been there after dark), this little burger joint seems to be the hamburger hot spot for locals and those in the know in Bishop. We ate there on our last visit to the area and made a second visit two nights later to bring others who arrived in Bishop for the weekend. This place have very tasty burgers but I have to say the all stars to me are the fries and onion rings. Really as good as they get. Plus the variety of shakes and other menu items makes this place we will visit time and time again. Apparently others feel the same because while local eateries on the main road are not so busy, this place is rockin'. They have plenty of outdoor seating. Star gazing and burgers. What a perfect dinner.

driving down to los angeles from lake tahoe, i yelped for a place for lunch in bishop. i filtered yelp for just one $ sign; we wanted something cheap and good. burger barn with its 4.5 stars looked interesting. it's rare to see such a high rating. directions told us to turn off the main highway (hwy 395) for about one mile. we started to doubt as we drive through residential area... how good could this place be? upon arriving, our doubt grew even deeper. it looks like a RV park! but we had faith in the yelp rating and there were a few people eating at the outdoor seatings so we forged ahead. we followed the sign to the drive-thru and it took us to a speaker with the menu on a white erase board and that had us hooked. how cool is that?! but the speaker didn't work so we pulled up to the window to order. the young lady at the window was very pleasant and helpful. we placed our order and was asked to pulled ahead to wait for our order. we parked on the side of the street right outside. let's just say when we got our order of 4 burgers and a full order of onion rings, the box looked like a piece of art. the food was beautiful. the burgers were delicious!! my 2 teenage kids had western bacon burgers, my husband had the double hamburger and i had the blt. wow!! we were all oohing and ahhing while we chowed down the burgers. the onion rings were huge and delicious. we had had a vanilla shake and a chocolate shake. the shakes were smaller than expected since they were $4 each. the chocolate shake tasted great with just the right thickness. vanilla was tasty but a bit runny. burger barn is going to be a staple for this family from now on whenever we pass through bishop, in either direction. thanks, yelp!

As burger shacks go, this is right up there with the best. I got a double with blue cheese and bacon (and lots of other stuff). It was everything you could want from a burger. The sweet potato fries were crispy (difficult to do with sweet potato fries). It would be nice if they had more indoor seating.

    (4)
  • Meghan C.

The burgers were delicious the service was friendly, however, 2 cheeseburger combos, 1 side cheeseburger and 1 drink came to 28 bucks. You be the judge, when I saw it had the one dollar sign on yelp it usually means affordable. Definitely didn't feel affordable. Despite the good food and service I probably wouldn't eat here again due to cost.

This place is awesome!! I am going to begin with the cons because it is going to be short and brief. Location, a little outside of town and not on the path of people driving through town. Outside appearance, a little run down but has personality. The drive thru, same place as where walk ups place order but this is even original. Now the pros. First and foremost, this was the best burger I have ever had at a restaurant. By far and no argument. Best by far. And best prices by far. Going to a high dollar sit down restaurant to pay more is only a waste of time and your hard earned cash. There are many places to get a burger at. I have been to a few of them. This place puts them all to shame. The fries are good too but the stars are the burgers. Unusual bums, not sure what kind but a perfect combination. Some would think the outdoor seating is getto. I like sitting outside. Fresh air, better views especially from the upstairs seating area and it even makes the food taste better. The staff is very nice and friendly. We are going to stop by here every time we pass through Bishop.

I love finding gems like the BBB. The burger was great and the rings were awesome. They make a funky cooked lemonade which I didn't really love that much but that may have been me and my taste in lemonade. Off the main drag by about 1.5 miles is nice and keeps the tour groups at Schats where they belong. I'll come back because they earned my business at the BBB. I think you will like it too.

The Hamburgler would be in heaven here. Homemade Burger Buns would indicate that Bishop Burger Barn means serious Burger Business. Yup. They are serious. Local, Organic, High Quality Ingredients. Get the Goods Burger!! It features bleu cheese and locally smoked bacon from across town. Yum! The Seating area is awesome. It's bigger than it looks and it's completely random. There is seating perched high above the restaurant or in mismatched wood chairs around near the order area or along the road there is a nice open dining area. The Drive-Thru is ridiculously awesome. It's a logistic failure but utterly charming. Have you ever wanted to walk up to a drive through and place your order alongside cars? Well you get your chance here. Off the main strip so word of mouth and yelp are most likely the way they receive business. Tell all your friends. This is the place for delicious burger eats. Ohhh and they make their own ice cream! You can customize your shake and mix and match any flavors. It's also BYOB. Pick up some booze and have it accompany your meal. Although I think I'd much rather have one of their awesome shakes. Love the Bishop Burger Barn. It oozes small town charm with high quality big city eats.

Found the "Barn" on Yelp as we hungrily approached Bishop on our road trip from Tahoe. So glad we did. Not only is the food FANTASTIC, but the folks are friendly and the service is quick.

Great burgers, fries and malts. Very friendly owner/staff and a eclectic, laid back setting with a backdrop of the Sierras.

So very good! Thank God for Yelp! We would have never found this quirky little gem without you. I'm still thinking about that amazing blue cheese burger a week latter, so I decided a burger that memorable deserves my time to write a review. Funky and weird place but I like it. My hubby is a hamburger-aholic and he thanked me repeatedly for finding this joint! NUMMY

I've been here three times and the burgers and fries are very good. I would not agree with some other reviewers that they are "the best burgers ever," but they are well made and tasty. They aren't very hot when brought out to you, so I knock them down one star and they also have overcharged me every time I go there. They don't give you a paper receipt. But two regular hamburgers with bacon and fries should only add up to $13.00, not the $15.50 they are charging me. But... that is my error, just be sure you add up the tally and make sure they don't (perhaps accidentally) overcharge you. Others complain about the lack of ambiance and it being adjacent to a trailer park, but that's fine with me. The staff are friendly and there's a nice laidback vibe. The food does take about 10-13 minutes to get out to you, but it's all made to order, so also no criticism about that. Bottom line: very good food and a friendly experience.

The burgers here are fucking delicious! The owners are super cool! AND they have homemade shakes! This place hits the spot after a hard day of crushing boulders.

Everywhere I've dined in Bishop ca. has been horrible until we found the Burger Barn. The food was the bomb we had delish burgers, beer battered onion rings and yummy crispy fries. The girl behind the counter who took our order was very nice and beautiful. People don't give up on Bishop, try the Burger Barn you will not be sorry.

I have passed by Burger Barn many times over the years, never quite certain of their erratic schedule. During my recent climbing respite in Bishop I heard rumors of new management. The sign with actual business hours looked promising so I stopped on in. This is no fast food joint. Buns and ice cream are homemade and orders are freshly prepared by owners Shawn (sp?) and Chris. So far I've had the breakfast burrito, hamburger, sweet potato fries, and a sample of the mint ice cream (flavored with locally grown mint leaves not the stuff from the bottle). All were excellent. Prices are reasonable and service is stellar. Burger Barn is a welcome addition to the otherwise food wasteland that is Bishop.

Homemade buns! Homemade buns! And one amazing black bean veggie burger that may be the best I've ever had. A unique, Bishop-y atmosphere as well -- tiny indoor dining spot, or eat by the fire! Fun.

This place is a little off the beaten path, but well worth it! I had the western bacon cheeseburger with their crispy fries. Either I was exhausted from floating the Owens river, or those fries were MAGIC. I don't think I remembered to breathe until they were all gone. The burger was delicious as well.

I can sum this place up in one word 'FUN.' Well maybe 2 words 'FUN, YUM!" We caught some earlier reviews and wanted to check it out, I did not think it was possible to be a couple of miles outside of town in Bishop, CA, but this place is just that. It is set-up right in front of a fully operational trailer park. The operation is set-up as an order here at window 1 and pick-up at window 2. There is a variety of eclectic seating spots around the property. The whole set-up will definitely take you back 25 years or more. The 20 something owner operators are very serious about their food, but also seem to love what they do. Very entrepreneurial young folks and it is paying off. Forget the menu, you can pretty much put any type of burger that you can think of together here. I went with Double, Bacon, Bleu Cheese, Lettuce, Mustard, Pickle. Damn, it hit the spot. It even comes on a homemade bun. You can tell this is a high-end piece of meat. Melts in your mouth, but no big stream of grease. The owner mentioned that they were going to slaughter a grass fed cow on site next week....we have a conflict and cannot make it. My son also said the Nutella shake was the best he'd ever had ---Homemade ice-cream, hand churned. We met about 10 people in line and all were on their way back from Mammoth heading back towards LA. If you are in the area, don't miss it. Some of the little stores in Bishop have prettier storefronts, but this is the real deal!

I've been a few more times now, and I have to report EVERYTHING I've tried here is excellent!! The owners really care about their food, use fresh and local ingredients when possible, and make their own ice cream, hamburger buns, grow some of their own food - it's great. They keep adding to the outside seating (still all that's available for now) and they are working on getting an indoor seating area going as well. Menu items I've tried: Ryan Good Burger - a blue cheese and bacon burger to die for!! I love that their burgers are not huge - they are normal, not super-sized, portions. You don't feel gorged and gross after eating one! (Plus, room for home-made ice cream or malt for dessert!) Side salad - delicious mixed greens and veggies and homemade dressing - I had the charred tomato dressing, which I highly recommend! Dirty Hippie! I love the name and concept of this - it's a veggie burger... WITH BACON! hahaha. The veggie burger was - I think - a black bean-based patty and was tasty. I think I'll try it again without the bacon to taste it better. I'll stick with the Goods burger for the bacon and blue cheese. Malt - I tried homemade sweet potato praline ice cream malt - wow! Kind of reminiscent of red bean ice cream, but a little sweeter and more flavorful with the maple/pecan praline flavors. I'm looking forward to trying more of their ice cream flavors throughout the summer. They have a nice small size, too, instead of everything being too huge. They have larger sizes, too, but it's really nice that they offer a small size. They also give free tastes... which is what got me to buy this one in the first place! If you don't mind a funky outdoor atmosphere with dogs wandering around (I consider both of those things kind of a bonus!), then do stop in for some very tasty food!!

Wouldn't have found without yelp as it's off the main drag. In front of a trailer park, funky place, super friendly staff that you can see have pride in what they do. I got the veggie burger and tasty- nuts, sunflowers seeds, beans maybe beets in there? The cheddar was high quality. Boyfriend got the Goode burger and he was still commenting on it hours later. Looking forward to visiting on next mammoth trip and trying the homemade ice cream

Bacon Guacamole burger was the special the day I went. Oh yes, it was very special... in every delicious way. The tater tots were a great crunchy sidekick. This place is a must the next time I'm driving through.

On one of the back streets through Bishop is this up-and-coming burger location. I've been here on every trip to Mammoth this season and the owners are always in the process of adding more seating, and generally upgrading the place. So keep an eye out for new photos. IMHO go for the burger, fries and a milkshake. You wont be disappointed.

Seriously the best burger I've had thus far. I am no connoisseur, but I have had my share of burgers, this had the perfect amount beef, perfect amount of veggies (which is usually never enough) and PERFECT fries! Will always come eat here when we come to visit! Gave 4 stars because of limited seating options. -Sonia

Good as it gets for a fantastic burger. I had the cheeseburger with fries. Really fresh and good. Nice outdoor seating and cool type decorations. They have a loft upstairs which is cool also. Will definitely go back when visiting Bishop again.

Stopped here on a drive back from las Vegas on a whim, glad we made it here rather than a micky d's. Bacon cheeseburger was well worth it, with ripe tomato and crispy lettuce without too much sauce so as to make the bun fall apart. Fries were a standout, the batter on them took them to the next level. I had the mint shake, which wasn't my style since it was authentic mint (I think I'm used to candy mint extract kind of stuff, this was a little more herbaceous) ice cream was good though, and I'd order another shake if I stop through again. We ate above the grill in the tree house, the misters made it comfortable and the views were great Big plus on the bathroom, clean and comfortable, always a plus for any road trip stop.

A little out of the way when driving on the 395 but it is well worth it. Had the veggie burger and a turkey burger with sweet potato fries and a side salad. All was delicious and we'll worth the additional costs. The buns were homemade and delicious, and the grilled onions went perfectly with the 1000 island dressing.

Been back a couple of more times and still good! Still no indoor seating so definitely not good for inclement weather but the food is just as good as I remembered. I've tried the "Goods" burger twice now and a regular hamburger and dang if they don't always hit the burger spot. I've also tried their vanilla milkshake, which was delightfully vanilla bean-y. A group of my friends also tried them over the weekend and it was an enthusiastic 8 thumbs up from 4 people :)

Hands down the BEST BURGER PLACE I've ever been to!! Absolutely delicious! I don't remember which burger I ordered and it doesn't even matter. It was so good! The meat is so flavorful and fresh. As was everything on my burger. This place definitely knows what's up in the burger world! And you can tell that they actually care about what they are feeding people. Thank you!!

This place was definitely not what I was expecting. When we pulled up we were a little unsure of it but decided to give it a try since it got such great reviews. The burgers were amazing! You can definitely tell everything is fresh like they say. I got the bacon guacamole burger and my husband got the western bacon burger and beer battered sweet potato fries. Delicious!! I would definitely recommend this place! Great stop on our road trip to Mammoth!

Pull in, get confused, buy a killer burger and support a decent, conscious business. We split a cheeseburger and fries, and a horchata milkshake...awesome, the burger was hot, the lettuce was crisp and piled high, the milkshake was out of this world, cinnamon-ie and couldn't put it down. Best in Bishop, hands down. Best of all BYOB or wine, they will even open it for you, no corkage- how cool is that?

I am a quarterly burger eater. So when I decide to take the plunge, I want it to be worth it. This. Is. Worth. It. My son and I tried to think of a better burger that we had ever had in our lives....and we couldn't. The portions are not typical american size, which makes it really pleasurable, sometimes a little bit goes a LONG way. The bread is perfection itself (Schats?). The ingredients were flawless. Really, the perfect burger. Then there is the incredible view. Look at the photos, you don't eat the world's best burger looking at the world's best mountains very often. The wait staff is super friendly. I saw them chase down one customer who had forgotten something. They tracked us down after we had moved upstairs and brought us our food. The prices are divine. Hard to beat this amazing little place. Well done.

I did not have high expectations for a burger hut situated in front of a mobile home park... HOWEVER, I have not had a better burger in many years! During our trip to Bishop, my family went on a tour of many of the yummiest burger joints in the area, and the Burger Barn came out on top! Not only could I get pretty much any combination of burger fixings available, but the service was wonderful and the actual burger was like a sandwich party in my mouth! ;) Prices were very average, which is ok since I didn't need to leave a tip. All I have to say is YUM and go there if you have the chance!

Found this most unusual joint on Yelp. It's off the beaten path & looks like a setting of a junk yard/ trailer park. The quality of beef is OUTSTANDING. I'm a burger buff. The buns are freshly baked, the cheese aged & the best sweet potato fries I ever had. A definite repeat every time I return to Bishop

Very funky, very friendly, and great food. The burgers are great, all the usual toppings, and some unexpected options. Had mango shake for the first time today, and it's nicely done. As others have suggested, don't be put off by the exterior. It doesn't look like much, the seating is all outdoors, it's in front of a broken down trailer park, but forget all that and enjoy a great burger. Not only can you get local beef (when available) but today's burger had fresh local tomatoes, too.

This place has the best burger I've ever had, hands down. As someone from the bay area and recently moved to Bishop, I can honestly say this place is a treasure to have nearby. It also costs about the same as McDonalds. So, why would you eat at McDonalds? You can eat at Burger Barn, get a much better and healthier burger, support local business, and you have a menu which has just about everything you could think of. On hot days, you have a mister running, so it keeps things cool while you're waiting for your order. Price is good. Food is excellent. Service is excellent. I love this place. They also have plans to redesign the seating area in the future and the Owner is a good guy whom has a very respectable reputation around town from what I hear. Update: They've recently raised the prices and parking is a bit of a pain with only 4 spaces and curb side parking is prohibited now. You can do drive-thru. Still a good burger.

Passing through and saw the consistent 5 stars so we decided to stop. Everyone loves it! They even have homemade gluten free buns for our intolerant friend. That's seriously awesome! We had the onion rings, fries, burgers and shakes and loved every bite! What a gem! Oh no almost didn't post this review from a really amazing stop, this review was written a couple weeks back. I guess for penance I'll have to go back for a visit!

A small little shack right off Line St serving up great burgers and fries. We were looking for somewhere to eat after a day of pebble wrestling and of course I found this place on Yelp. All those times going to the milks over the the years and we never stopped here. I got a double goods burger and demolished it pretty quickly. Soooo juicy and tasty. The fries were good too. It's a small place, with basically just two guys. We came with a pretty big crew, so it did take awhile to get all of our orders through. One thing to note is that they don't have any seating inside, so bring your down! Also, the menu is a bit hard to read at night, so use your phone or a headlamp.

We were on a road trip down the 395, we decided to explore Bishop and stumbled across this cool little family burger joint, hand made buns and patties grilled to order, delicious. Five or six separate little dining areas to eat at, its like being at a backyard BBQ without the hassle. This will be a regular stop anytime we are near Bishop.

the burger was great, the sweet potato fries were amazing, but the best part was just the ambience. I love ordering my burger from a window and getting to sit outside and eat. I loved that the tables were all different and you could sit in a garden or under an awning. and even though it was 100 degrees, the misters made it totally comfortable for hours. bonus: you can bring your own booze!

I don't eat burgers that often, but when I do, this is the best place in Inyo and Mono Counties. Had a taste for a burger today and went to the Burger Barn. I ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon and all of the veggies The fries the best I've ever had and the burger was once again, great,...and I think they were using fresh, homegrown tomatoes. Excellent!

We stopped here while we were camping in Bishop Creek. My kids wanted some ice cream while we were in town. They each had an Oreo shake, my husband had a Nutella shake, and I had a vanilla ice cream cone. Oh my god, these were incredible. The ice cream was the best I have ever tasted and the shakes were amazing. The following day, after checking out of our campsite, we decided to hit this place up for lunch before driving home. The burgers did not disappoint. We had just a basic cheeseburger, but boy were they good. The fries were awesome, but the real gem was the onion rings. Oh my pure awesomeness. Some other reviews complained about the location, but I found it to be great. Outdoor seating under misters made the 100 degree temps bearable. Some people behind us were complaining about the misters being too much, but considering they showed up in a Prius, I don't take their complaints seriously. Overall, this place was great.

After spending a few days over Piute Pass climbing a new route (5.7 IV), we stopped here for a burger. I don't think burgers get any better than this especially if you are as hungry as we were. The bacon was good and crispy. The meat was good. The bun was better than most but my personal preference for a real bread bun is probably different than what most people like or expect. Kind of a funky place with outdoor seating (my son tells me you can sit inside if you want to). Sitting outside was fine since we smelled pretty bad. The sweet potato fries were excellent.

Really, really good burgers from locally grown beef. Great fries. Super friendly owners and employees. Definitely worth a stop on our many north/south 395 trips. A little off the main road on West Line Street, but worth the quick detour!!

Friendly, reasonable and tasty in a unique setting. This restaurant is worth the extra mile drive off the 395!

Worth the detour from the highway. They were so friendly and accommodating, the food was amazing. The burgers reminded the husband and I of that quality and freshness that you expect at a hand-patted never-frozen family bbq. Buns were fresh made. Onion rings were the best I have ever had. This place epitomizes the theme that the best food you will ever have is in the quirky dive restaurant.

Came to Bishop for one day on business, and of course consulted my trusty yelp for the best places to dine. Found Bishop's Burger Barn with five stars and HAD to check them out. So, so thankful I did! Ordered a cheeseburger and fries, and while I was waiting, chatted with the young owners who were friendly, enthusiastic, and passionate about their business and about their food! While I was waiting for my freshly made, all organic burger, I was offered a sample of their homemade chocolate ice cream - holy cow. It made me order dessert. The burger was delicious - fresh homemade bun that didn't crumble or get soggy at all, delicious fries, and an upstairs patio with misters with a gorgeous view of the mountains and the valley. The owner told me they order their beef from a local farm and make their mint chocolate chip ice cream from a batch of fresh mint that grows on their property! I was officially sold when the cook came out of the back and snipped a few sprigs of basil from a pot growing out front for the guy behind me's caprese wrap. I am sold, and would recommend this place to anyone.

Found this place on yelp because we wanted lunch on the way to Lone Pine. An awesome local spot!! Burgers were great. So many sides to choose from-fries, onion rings, sweet potatoes fries, and even tater tots! They also have gluten free burger buns!!!!

This is an old school family burger and shake place with personality plus! You will never see anything like it, it is at the entrance to a trailer park and is a hodge podge of buildings and unique outdoor seating. If you are a 5 star dining kind of person - this will be a true experience - and may open your mind. If you are a explorer and like to find the local hang outs this is YOUR spot. Don't fall for an on the main drag Carl's burger ever again. The Bishop Burger Barn is where it's at - turn off 395 at Line Street and head west just past Barlow Lane on the north side of the road - they have an OPEN sign on the street. They have local grass fed beef as an option on your burgers. Burger patties are all hand made as well as the burger buns and the ice cream and the ranch dressing. This is authentic real food - not your average burger place. Fries are crunchy and the onion rings are yummy and huge. The service is not typical drive through - but you can drive through or walk up to the drive through window. It's not lightening fast - but it is so worth the wait to eat REAL food. They have other things besides burgers, but that's all we have had. They had a huge Philly steak sandwich on special this weekend. There is a salad and veggy burger on menu for the non-beef eaters. Great if you have cranky kids or dogs - it's all outside or in your car, so no need to worry about other dinners not enjoying your family. There is a funky bathroom that's always clean. Staff is super friendly. They do take credit cards. This is one you just won't find unless you know about it - FIND IT!!

It's too bad that they decided to not serve their breakfast burrito anymore. This is in hopes that they will bring it back. They said it's been on low demand. Let's change that! I had their breakfast burrito couple of years ago. It was FANTASTIC! I went back their the next year and they were closed because it was "off season". They suggested Mahogany Smoked Meats for their breakfast burrito. It was good, but not as good as BBBs. Finally got back there to find out it's been discountinued this year :(

This review is about a couple months overdue, but better late than never! Went here with some friends on the way back from Mammoth. It is kind of in the the middle of nowhere, but the food is AWESOME. The people working there were also very friendly and patient with us (6 people looking at a small whiteboard trying to figure out what to order). We had just about one of everything on the menu. I'm not a vegetarian, but I had the veggie burger (wanted something light for the trip all the way back home). I was expecting something closer to a boca burger, which I do enjoy, but it tasted completely made from scratch - much more of a mushroom & textured taste compared to a standard veggie burger. Very enjoyable even for a meat-eater like myself. Washed everything down with some of their over-sized onion rings and citrus malt shake. I would recommend sitting down and eating here to absorb the unique atmosphere. However, if you really are in a rush, there is a drive-thru: giant white board & you pull around the parking lot ending up at where you would place a walk up order. The restroom is... interesting. It's very clean, but when you close the door, there is this picture of a child staring at you. I will definitely make this a regular stop when I'm in the area.

I noticed that Yelp had very good reviews for the Burger Barn. So, I decided to try it out. I have to say that I was surpised by the final bill. It was over $18 and I left a dollar tip, so that shot $20 for lunch. What i ordered was a Double cheese burger, totaling a half a pount of meat, the grass feed and a small fry and a double Espresso. I thought I would treat mayself with the double esprresso, but found it to be made of columbian beans and not an espresso at all. They forgot the espresso with my order and I had to ask the guy and convince him that I ordered it. I was dissapointed in the esprersso, not good at all. Very bitter. The frys were good, but over salted for my taste and the buger was smoked. You could tell they used good quality meat, but a little bit chewy,, like they had pressed it too hard. Very little tomato, one very thin slice and only one slice of cheese. There was plenty of lettice though and I ordered the works on the burger and there were not any pickles and very little onion on the sandwich. Not a full sliced onion. The bun was homemade, but as far as I was concerned it was tasteless. Call's jr. has a better bun. The place looked run down and the door was open in the back to let the flies into the kitchen. I also watched a yellow jacket fly in the back door. I have a thing about flies on my food. It all appeared dirty on the outside. So, I can only assume the worst on the inside. I will not go back, as they seemed to have cut corners. If I pay $20 for lunch I would expect that the burger would be over flowing with extras. It was not. The employees were very nice, that much they have going for the place. I have been in the restaurant industy all my life and I a very aware of cleanliness and value.

Awesome burgers and awesome fries. My husband and I love hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop type restaurants... We saw this place and stopped here on our way up to our campsite in the Eastern Sierra for a week of fishing. The food was so good and it was pretty inexpensive too.

I decided to rate this place since I will be going on a fishing trip in a few weeks and am already looking forward to my stop here for lunch. If you're in Bishop, stop here for a burger! If you're taking the 395 anywhere and going through Bishop, STOP HERE FOR A BURGER! Also go for the sweet potato fries and a shake, you wont be disappointed!

My wife and I ordered bacon cheeseburgers after finding this interesting and well reviewed location on Yelp. Neither of us enjoyed the burgers, as they were too large to put in your mouth and weren't that good. On the positive side, the fries and onion rings were an uptick. There isn't any inside seating and there were an incredible number of flies all around the place and on us. My son's grilled cheese sandwich wasn't finished so I tried it and understood it wasn't so good. A blueberry shake wasn't as good as something from Denny's either.

The food was great. We tried the upstairs patio but we got a strange gas smell and had to move downstairs. The guy at the counter really made us feel welcomed.

The temps were dropping and our energy was low after climbing all day at the Buttermilks and the Happies here in Bishop Ca. We needed food and I pulled up the infamous yelp app. I couldn't believe the 5 out of 5 the burger barn got until we bit into the juicy, succulent burger. Holy shit this place is good. If you are coming to Bishop to climb or just passing through, have a burger and enjoy the best food in Bishop!!!!

What an awesome little place!Everything here was amazing. Let's start from the beginning. we were on our way to mammoth (we've been going regularly forever- like 10 years!) and decided to try something new because we were hungry and the stuff we were seeing on the road was boring (subway, pizza etc) and we needed domehing quick. so I opened up yelp and found this! it was a mile off the main road and in a trailer park neighborhood, but totally worth it! it has it's own makeshift drive thru! The views were amazing, big mountains and open meadows on the other side of the road. there is so much to choose from on the menu- we decided on a plain burger with bacon, sweet potato fries and an Oreo milkshake. the buns were homeade (or something like that) the meat was local and the bacon was local/organic (something like that). together, it tasted so so amazing!!!!!! the ice cream in the milkshake was also homemade. they had a gazillion flavours for the milkshakes; it was really hard to choose! the bacon and hamburger and fries tasted something like we've never had before!!!! delicious!!! we will be back!

Delish! Don't drive through bishop without stopping here. The burgers, fries, shakes, and onion rings are amazing! On top of that they use locally grown ingredients. What a great meal!

Back in Bishop this week. Same excellent food experience, but this time with added bonus. I happened upon them for the last malt to be made with their sweet potato ice cream they had whipped up (they're true foodies, often making new concoctions they think of on a whim and go for). Yep, still great!

This place kicks ass. It's definitely not your normal burger place. First off, it's in Bishop, which is usually only a stop for people to use the bathroom and get gas on the way to Mammoth from SoCal. Secondly, it's not even on the main drag. You have to actually go find it....and it's in the front of a trailer park. Seriously. But it's part of the charm. There are a couple of ok places to eat in Bishop, but on a Sunday during the summer heading home from Mammoth, they are always stacked deep. This place is worth the short drive off the main street to avoid the crowds and get a killer burger. If you like blue cheese, get their signature burger. You won't regret it. Add a chocolate shake, some fries and a drink and you're solid.

This place is great. Set-up may look odd but the Burgers are great and fries are crispy and excellent. Definitely worth it.

This place is dank. I had Ryan's Good Burger and I was actually licking the sauce off the paper it was wrapped in. Their beer battered fries are crisped to perfection, and have plenty of flavor on their own. No need to douse these in catsup. Whoa, but why else do we eat out? Customer service. The guys here are really nice. Sean even took some time out of his break to sit down and draw me a map of Bishop, explaining where to camp. The place is clean, friendly, and with the calibre of burger they're pumping out... Why eat somewhere else? Go here. Eat. Enjoy.

Great place, good food. Good service, right off the road. Little pricy, but service and flavor make up for it

Coolest little family burger spot! Out for family fishing trip and tried it out and was impressed. For a small establishment I saw them making their own home made buns and stuff! Stop here if your bishop bound, going through to mammoth, or wherever your going!

Yes, I'm a fan, so far after one visit. Our food was more than good enough for the likes of us. I thought the value was good. Kind of a funky place, look around for the more tables that are scattered about. And there is parking inside the compound though it's not apparent from the street.

Great burgers and fries! Worth the few blocks off of 395, and a great "respite" from Schatz's Mule Kick Sandwich.

AAMAZING food! If you are in Bishop or Mammoth Lakes and you do not come here, YOU'RE CRAZY ! Hell if you're on another continent, get your cobweb-covered wooden boat and sail that darn thing over here. From bacon + bleu cheese smothered Angus beef burgers to HOMEMADE veggie burgers to -wait for it- chocolate/peanut butter/banana/coconut/caramel milkshake with HOMEMADE ice cream. Yes, I went there. Mhmm. The service is exceptional..you would think the wait staff is being paid in diamonds and gold and are getting paid vacation(you just never know). The girl at the front taking my order must have won the lottery and/or gotten a raise that day, so happy and upbeat. Love it!! Eat here or you will be sorry! I will find you at your funeral and tell everyone you've never eaten here and awkward silence will follow. Don't have an awkward silence at your funeral, eat at Burger Barn.

Did a quick search after a long weekend in mammoth and some of the best burgers, fries, onion rings, etc. that you will ever have. Great service, super friendly. All outdoor seating a of now and it was cold so we cozied up in the car to eat.

From their opening they have only used fresh ingredients and homemade ice cream. Their burgers and shakes are good, but I love their breakfast burritos. Egg, bacon, potatoes. Great food, great chef, wonderful service.

Allllll this time using Yelp and I have never bothered joining it until now. But I never would have found this gem without Yelp so I owe a review! This place is FANTASTIC. We had the "Goods" burger with blue cheese and bacon, onion rings and a strawberry milkshake. All of it was from scratch and seriously some of the best I have had. They make their own buns and use homemade ice cream for the shake! I just ate it and I want to eat it all again, it was THAT good. A few practical notes - it is off the main drag, but still easy to get to. As others have noted, there is no indoor seating. Also, while they sell burgers and fries, this isn't fast food. It's proper food done to order so you won't be getting it two minutes after you ordered it. Plan accordingly if you have small children in tow. Ok, I am now going to go look wistfully at my empty plate.

Place was absolutely amazing, I am from SoCal and eat out often at nice places in the city. The food was phenomenol! Everything was fresh! The portions were heaping, perfectly cooked, service was outstanding, very friendly and courteous! I thought they may not even take credit/debit at first and low and behold they do and my receipt was even emailed to me so that I could help save a tree! There is even a drive-thru as well! The setting is great, neat farmland across the street with horses roaming. Had water misters in numerous areas to keep us cool. The burgers were fantastic, the fresh fruit smoothie was very tasty and refreshing. Even the homestyle ranch for my sweet potato fries was awesome! Prices are very fair especially for the quality & service you get, So many things on the menu sound amazing! Less than $10 will get you a big burger, large side of sweet potato fries, and a large smoothie! I can not wait to plan my next trip just so i can stop by here and eat! Thank You. - Randy R.

My prediction for This place is that it might not be in business after a few more months after my encounter here... So we stopped by the burger barn after seeing its numerous 5-star reviews but i cant see any way how this could be the same restaurant. Its under a new management now since last year. Looking in felt like visiting a falling apart hodge podge shack. Also there is no indoor seating. After walking up to the window, the kitchen looked very unsanitary so anyways i ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate shake. After ordering the guy immediately pulls out an iPad making me choose a tip with no '$0' amount. Choosing a tip before service for a fast food restaurant? How silly is that. I asked to have the food brought to our table around the corner and he said he has to charge me 25 cents. What a joke. Anyways, i picked up the food and started what i thought would be eating. The burger was small for $8 and tasted really bland and frozen. No flavor at all. The $4 shake was warm and flavorless as well. Fries... Well they weren't that bad to tell the truth. So after staring at my meal i started doubting why I'm here. I ask for a to-go box thinking i could feed it to my pet dog right? So she brings me a burger box that my food originally came in. So not the best time of my life here. Burger barn is a disappointing place and i will definitely not go there again! Oh also in bishop I would definitely recommend holy smoke barbecue for the most delicious food ever!!!

A must stop destination when you go thru Bishop. Located out West Line Street, the new owners of the Burger Barn have the right formula...quality burgers and the best crispy fries in the land. They greet with a smile, give you the lay of the land, then serve a cook to order meal...hot, tasty, and fresh.

Finally, Bishop has a place you can actually recommend to people. You must stop here if you are in the area. Incredible quality and extremely fresh ingredients, many grown in their garden. Support this business so that we have a good place to eat out!

You know when pass a place on the road several times (this is on Hwy 168/W Line St. a mile or two west from the 395 in Bishop) and you think, I should try that sometime? I am always in such a hurry to get up the mountain, and it's always so late when I come down the mountain,. I have missed out. Boy, am I sorry. Stopped here on Sunday morning and it was difficult to choose from the extensive menu (not the same one that's online right now, but I imagine this changes because they use local produce, meat, etc.-REALLY). I had the HOMEMADE lox on a (very fresh bagel), b/f had a bacon burger on a HOMEMADE bun. I have never had better lox. N.E.V.E.R. The burger was very tasty with excellent beef flavor and the bacon was perfect. Chef apologized that the charbroiler wasn't on yet (this was around 9:00a.m.), so the burger was fried--so I'm anxious to also try the burger at lunch time. Since there were only a few of us there at the time (started getting busy as we left), the chef and the order-taker were very, very friendly. It will be difficult to keep me away from this place when I'm in the Eastern Sierras. Thank you, Burger Barn for being there!

great find, locals eat here. owned and run by a really nice couple. he used to be a chef at a ski resort restaurant. she remembered my name from my ticket. the veggie burger patty (made in house) was quite good, and had a good "meaty" taste and texture. the fries were really, really good. all the veggies tasted very fresh, and the prices are stupendous for the high quality food (I saw a shaker of chervil and a bottle of Sri Racha). Definitely a go to place after backpacking. It's off the main drag/395, but it's right on W. Line Rd, which is probably what you're driving down if you're coming down from the mountains. Also, they have an outdooor cooling/mist system on the balcony for when it gets hot.
