When I used to live in Mammoth, I'd always pick up a loaf of Great Basin Bakery's sourdough bread at the local health food store. Now that I only visit Mammoth occasionally, and am usually driving through Bishop late at night, I've missed grabbing their baked goods. On this trip, though, I was able to actually visit the Bishop location and order a sandwich in addition to my bread fix. And, it was the best sandwich I've had in a long time, possibly ever. The Italian Veggie had provolone, tomatoes, spinach, avocado, and their own dressing, served on either multigrain or sourdough (I went with multigrain since I'd just purchased a couple loaves of sourdough). The combination of flavors was ideal, and everything was just so fresh. I'm just going to have to make certain to get to Bishop during regular business hours in the future!
So frustrated! Driving through Bishop with my husband and was so excited to see that there were 2 huge, DELICIOUS bakeries and delis... Only to find that one of them (Schat's) didn't offer ANY gluten-free options, and the other (Great Basin) had 2 types of GF cookies to choose from. Come on, people! GF is a popular, progressive and healthy lifestyle... Oh, and it's 2015. Get with the program! By the way, I also Yelped these places before visiting and they had some GF recommendations. Don't let those fool you! While all of you enjoy your delicious, soft Soudough breads, I'll be chomping on my carrots and lettuce...
Food: Had an egg, bacon, ham, cheese croissant which was very tasty and unlike another very popular bakery in Bishop, it was made to order fresh. We also had a snicker doodle muffin which was moist and yummy. Coffee was good. Atmosphere: Smaller no frills bakery which is not a bad thing. They have a few tables for you to enjoy your morning coffee. The service is very good and they make u feel at home. Place gets pretty busy! Final thoughts: Tried this place while staying in Bishop for a few days on vacation. Breakfast croissant, coffee and muffin were yummy for my tummy. Will be going back for another breakfast croissant before we go back home. PS you can add anything to your croissant...avocado, tomatoes...yummy.

Vegetarians have no fear! They had an excellent "Dirty Hippie Veggie Burger"! Burgers are made to order, add sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, caramelized onions... your choice! There is only outdoors seating, we chose to sit rooftop. The view is amazing, snow capped rugged Sierras! Servers deliver your food to you! They are very friendly and makes the environment relaxing! You have to stop in here if you ever visit the Bishop!
Again, this is why I love yelp. I would never have found this absolute gem of a place. Quintessential road food. Had the Ryan Goods burgers with blue cheese and bacon- amazing! I like my burgers well done so this was exactly the way I like it. A little heavy on the onion, but easy enough to remove. Had milkshakes and a smoothie-perfect on a hot summers day. For sides we had sweet potato fries, regular fries and onion rings. I mean why choose? Yes, if in town I will be back. Friendly service, funky atmosphere, and great eats.
What a great find - this place is tucked away and off the beaten track. When I found it, it was like discovering a little, delicious secret. It's across from a grassy field and mountain view - feels like your in Switzerland. Definitely a "whole in the wall" worth visiting. They have a huge, creative burger menu and seem to use fresh and many organic, local ingredients. After eating my bacon cheeseburger and fries - my husband and I both agreed that w certainly didnt feel bloated and heavy the way I normally feel after a burger. Deifnitely taste like it was made at home, although mine was a little on the dryer side than expected. The bacon is from the local meat shop "Mahogany" definitely high quality stuff. If your passing through Bishop, this place is worth the stop just for the inique small town and country experience.
