I have to say that I was a little underwhelmed and disappointed by my visit to Tomatina tonight. I'd been wanting to try this place for a long time now, so when my boyfriend asked where we should go to eat, I thought it was a good choice for a nice evening together. Don't get me wrong, the service here was great and the restaurant is really nice as well, with a great atmosphere, but the food was just... meh. I haven't felt that way about a restaurant in a while. We ordered the margherita pizza and the penne bolognese to share, with the bruschetta appetizer. The bruschetta was fresh out of the oven, but had an overload of basil. The cheese on both the pasta and the pizza was really salty and killed my enjoyment of the penne, but the pizza had a delicious, thin, crisp crust that I liked a lot. Along with the appetizer we ordered we were given complimentary bread with a tomato spread to enjoy, which was also very tasty. The quality of the food was not the greatest I've had and left me, frankly, disappointed. Our waiter was a very nice man who got our order and our food to us quickly and made the experience enjoyable nonetheless. I'm not sure if I'll be returning any time soon, but the desserts seemed worth trying, so I may be willing to come back to check them out. Not a horrible place, just not as good as I was expecting.

The food was alright but the customer service was terrible from the hostess to the waiter. The wait time for the food was longer than expected. We had to repeatedly ask for one refill. The waiter clearly did not want to work that evening. I expected much better.

Always disappointed at food quality.. Have had cold raviolis, salmon that I sent back from being smelly and dry and bland salads plus there drinks have no refills and r small glasses filled with ice.. I'd only recommend sharing a pizza with friends in between meals, the bread is good from the bread basket which helps u keep from starving .. Overpriced since it doesn't seems like authentic Italian like ud think it is.. Staff is a lil off 2

Sub Par Service! I've been to Tomatina three times now, and this is the first time I had a bad taste in my mouth when I left. Food is excellent, had a server that was recently off the training roster, and she needs to learn "let me check on that and get back to you", rather than tell a customer something wrong and have to tell them I am sorry we can't do that after you've told the customer yes or promised them something you can't do.

Well I've been coming in this restaurant for a long time I always order the Piadini.. My problem is that the service is mediocre very slow.. Coz its busy and the Piadini's wrap is so thick... That's all

Try the Piadine... It's the only thing they have that's a little different. Their Pizza and pasta are pretty average but not bad. Service is unspectacular. Last time they didn't give us bread and the waiter was pretty blah. Parking is a bit difficult unless you are pretty saavy and do street parking toward the back. They have a parking lot but it's shared, small, and almost always full.

Sunday Dinner with the extended family. Delicious thin crust pizza, awesome salad and bruschetta. We had a group of 12 and didnt wait any more than 15 minutes for a table, during the dinner rush. Great food and service.

Good food, great price. Nice location. I had the meatballs. Very soft beef. The Zuppa is delicious and if you are on a carb kick, try the garlic rolls. Note: Parking is rough at certain hours.

Been here plenty of times and this is THE absolute go to place for us when we're doing the family train. So we took my kid here for his bday because it's his favorite restaurant on the island. It was a little crazy and took a while for our food to come out, but jen came out and sang a crazy huge happy bday to my kid when then the cake came out and totally blew his mind. He's still going on about it. Silly. But yeah, tomatinas alameda... solid.

This place is awesome! The manager is really nice too. They give complimentary bread with tasty salsa.

New chefs??? Tonight was horrible!!! When my husband says he's allergic to peas...how are you going to make his plate TWICE with peas????? And when I complain you talk shit...try to take the pea out...because yes ONE PEA MAKES A DIFFERENCE...and then ignore us! I have to get up and address the manager...who at least made our entire meal free. I will say however...this is a fluke...because usually...great service and great food. Tonight however...pissed me off; only I try and kill my husband!

Man.. I was hoping for something good but it turned out to be something that was truly forgettable. The only thing I remember about this place was the garlic rolls.. I had to refer back to pictures I've uploaded to remind myself what else I ordered.. Garlic Rolls - not as garlicky as I wanted, very greasy.. but good! Pescatora Pasta - bland, lack flavors, I didn't even eat a lot of it. Carne Pizza - it was OK.. could use some more tomato sauce. We didn't even bother with desserts. BOO.

So I must admit that I LOVE the salmon piadine. It's my favorite thing on the menu and their mixta salad w/ poached chicken. The only reason I don't give them 4 stars is that they're hit and miss with their food prep. Sometimes it's on point and sometimes it misses completely. Just the other night my husband pick up a salmon piadine for me and there was hardly any salad or salmon! I can usually eat half bcz the portions are healthy. This time I ate most of it bcz there wasn't much except left over crust. And to top it off, they didn't include the aoili which is the BEST part! Needless to say, this last time bombed... badly... Additionally, the Alameda location has TERRIBLE parking.... For the most part, you just have to be patient and hope the parking ferries are on your side... And if you have a dog, they let you eat in the patio area and bring your begging mutts... That's a BIG PLUS!

Even though a 3-star rating is considered average, I still wasn't expecting very much from Tomatina. And boy was I right. My friend and I came here for lunch a few days ago and it wasn't very busy despite the fact that it was 12:15pm, the usual time for lunch. Customer service was average, nothing special but nothing wrong. The complimentary bread was good, especially with the fresh tomato salsa/blend they serve with it. I think it would have tasted better if the bread was toasted though. We were deciding on ordering a draft but didn't know which one to get since I hardly know anything about beer. Our waiter was kind enough to bring us a sample of Pyramid Hefeweizen and Anchor Steam since those were the most unfamiliar drafts on the menu. Personally, I thought the Pyramid Hefeweizen tasted watery and was very similar to party beer (maybe Coors?). The Anchor Steam had a stronger taste but the aftertaste was more bitter than I preferred. Don't get me wrong, I know that beer is very bitter but I guess I just realized after the samples that beer wouldn't really go well with pasta. So then we decided to get a sweet wine. I personally don't enjoy the taste of wine so my friend was trying to get something similar to a Moscato and we ended up getting a glass of Conundrum White Blend for $8. It's a medium body white wine, whatever that means. I still ended up not liking it and was cringing at the taste but my friend loved it. On to the main dishes. I ordered the Pescatora, which sounded really good considering that it included both salmon and clams for only $11.95! Usually, dishes with any seafood is extremely expensive but I thought this price was reasonable... until the dish actually arrived in front of me. Aesthetically, the dish looked bland and not restaurant quality. Aside from the sub par looks, it was also very greasy. I was wiping my mouth literally after every bite. The salmon wasn't dry, which was a plus, but it was overcooked. The clams tasted like they were straight out of a can (and with their juices not strained, may I add) and definitely did not taste fresh. The "broth" tasted like oil and salt/pepper and did not impress me one bit. Overall, ate it for the sake of not wasting food and just so that I wouldn't be hungry anymore. My friend's dish, the Pasta with Chicken and Summer Squash, was much better than mine only because it tasted fresher and was not greasy whatsoever. It was lacking in flavor though. It tasted like they just boiled the pasta and squash and just added salt and cheese. So not worth the $12.75 but definitely better than the Pescatora. I definitely would not recommend Tomatina if you're craving any type of pasta. Sure, the atmosphere is nice and there was no wait at lunch time but the quality of the food was lacking and anyone could make a more flavorful dish at home.

I had low expectations coming here since yelp says 3 star! It would've never crossed my mind to come here, but I'm glad our friend chose to bring us here. I had their mix greens, pancetta, bing cherries salad from their special menu ($9.95). It was delicious, I forgot to ask for the dressing on the side and thought it would be drenched in dressing but nope, it was the perfect amount mixed in. I did think it was pricey since there were barely and cherries and pancetta. Our table also got a piadine and a pizza. Pizza was good but normal. It was my first time ever trying a piadine, what a unique thing. It's like Italian pita bread w salad filling. It was pretty good. Large pizza is twice the amount of medium pizza for only a few bucks difference. I certainly won't mind coming back here and would get their piadine for myself next time. They have wheat bread option too, which I will try next time.

The setting is nice and lots of booth. The service is also pretty decent; special thanks to the waitress that was so patient with me. so for that an extra star. Food wise, i've had better and here is why: Shrimp capelinni: this was a dish with angel hair pasta sauteed shrimp with garlic in a white wine butter sauce with marinara sauce. Besides the capers being the only flavorful thing (though even i've had better capers because i felt these weren't pickled long enough for the flavors to fully come out) the marinara tasted too much like the pizza sauce. It was sort of nice because of the freshness of the tomato. it had a bit of a sweet and acidity. The shrimp was nice and tender (not too overcooked where it shrivels up) sautéed in the buttered white wine sauce then added on top of the angel hair pasta with the marinara sauce as the base. Since the angel hair is so thin and small it's hard to cook it, this time it was a bit overcooked. The only thing i would probably only come here for are the selection for the customized pizza. I ordered a customized pizza with whole wheat flour dough, ricotta cheese, oven backed chicken, sun dried tomato and arugula. I really liked the fact that i was able to customize my pizza to my liking BUT the dough was a bit on the thin side. I like thin crust pizza but this was brittle thin. It was hard to eat since my pizza would crack on me if it didn't have the layer of cheese to hold it together. The sun dried tomato was excellent though. And everything they make are house meaning that they prepare it themselves instead of store bought or canned. which is really nice.

The food is not BAD, it's ok. The problem is some of the food appears to be "healthy" when in fact it's not. Obviously the delicious garlic rolls are not healthy. We don't even have to go there, you know you're not making healthy choice. Tastewise they're pretty good. Definitely worth trying. We ordered the Piadines. On paper, looked like a healthy choice, definitely needed to make a healthy choice considering I had those greasy garlic rolls. HOWEVER, when it got there it was kinda oily and don't even look at the nutritional values. You might as well go have a big mac and super sized fries.

Tomatina provides you so much food and fresh flavors. The atmosphere inside is welcoming but a bit generic. Try out the pizza and pasta!

Not sure if a bad day or something but the food was just no where near appetizing. The salmon hardly had any lemon or taste, the lemonade was just not good :( but my mom liked the lasagna so that's great! ( at least) service is nice though but the delay in the lasagna was ehhh not the best. Came from L.A. to see the diverse foods but wasn't happy with this place :(

I had the pepperoni calzone. Lots and lots and lots of vegetables. The dough was not crispy and the cheese was plentiful but not particularly well melted either. The garlic stick/nuggets were good. The salad dressing was very tasty. Service was okay but not stellar. If friends were going I wouldn't object but it would not be my first choice for Italian food.

This is the type of place that just makes me shake my head. Extremely average Italian that pales in comparison to all the new culinary options on Park street. Really surprises me that they have packed crowds and waits on the weekends. Also, I can't stand their relentless advertising on Spotify. I'm at work trying to focus and their corny ads play every 10 min!

I kind of hate this place, but my kids really love it, so somehow we keep ending up here. The good stuff: It's very kid friendly. They have coloring sheets, and a pretty decent and affordable kids' menu with good variety, and real live actual vegetables on it. Occasionally, you can get a good server. Occasionally. The menu is pretty expansive. The new remodel is nice. The patio is nice and the kiddos can run around out there. The no so great stuff: The food just isn't that tasty. I've never had anything that I've really loved. The meatballs taste like sawdust. Crappy wine. The service can be really slow and really bad. The wait times are long. It's so loud. Parking is next to impossible. They give you straws and plastic cups. Even when you specifically say, "I care about the environment, so I don't want straws and plastic cups." I mean, seriously, my 9 year old knows how to drink out of a regular cup. They won't let you pre-order your food so that when you finally get a table, you can eat. I just need to find an alternative so I don't have to give in to my kids when they ask to go here.

I love their Italian Cobb salad. For those who like salad this one you have to try it. For those of you go to Linguini's for dinner or lunch, STOP GOING THERE. It is the worst place ever! BUT if you have kids by all mean go there and stay away from Tomatina. Leave the kid chaos to Linguini's because they don't give a shit about it. Tomatina has way better food and service.

The food can be pretty decent here but something always gets left out. You order the pasta and there won't be enough sauce or they forget the parmesan cheese on top. Also, whenever you order a hot desert, they bring it out so scorching hot you burn the roof of your mouth. It has a pretty nice atmosphere, but when I spend more than $10 on a meal I expect more attention to be paid to meal presentation, especially when I'm new to town and you're trying to hook me as a return customer. I'm sure their pizzas are great, but I always go trying different pastas to see if I'll get a different experience and sadly, it never turns out good. My advice to the owner: work on your spicy sauce and teach the cook to cool down the food a bit before having it delivered to the table. Alright. [/endrant]

My co-workers and I ate here for lunch but I don't think this place is anything special. It did not give me the "wow" effect. I ordered their Magherita Pizza and it was just a cheese pizza sprinkled with some dried basil leaves. It was nothing like the magherita pizza I had at the Eat Real Festival. My co-workers got the Piadine, which is a flatbread topped with salads, which you can fold and eat like a taco. Claudia O. got the Steak Piadine, while Aaron C. got the Caprese Piadine with chicken. I think the price is comparable to the amount of food you get. My personal size pizza was $9.50 but it was huge. The good things that I do like about this place is the thin crust. It's very crispy and I'm a big fan of thin crust pizza. I also like how Aaron was able to add meat into his piadine even though it doesn't necessarily comes with it. My experience wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. All in all, it was just "a-ok." I wouldn't mind coming back but I wouldn't got out of my way to go back nor it would be my first choice.

I ordered a pepperoni pizza and minestrone soup. The pizza was quite good although not exceptional. I did not like the minestrone at all. The primary vegetable appeared to be squash and there was little body to the liquid. I would come here again but I would not order the minestrone.

Honesty, the service sucked. My boyfriend and i came here because we wanted to try something different. We came in and thought cool, its not packed tonight. The host looked at us at said "oh give me a minute". Uhh what happened to " hi how are you? & for how many?" After we sat down and ordered our drinks. We looked through the menu & decided what to eat. A pizza and some pasta. BUT IT LITERALLY TOOK THE WAITER ANOTHER 20-25 MIN TO SERVE US!!! Then, we waited and waited for our server to come refill our drinks, but he never came! I even asked another worker to help us & she said i have to call your waiter. HELLO I WOULDNT NEED TO CALL YOU IF MY WAITER WOULD JUST HELP US ALREADY! Oh yeah, while we were trying to hunt down our server, we noticed that we're the only Asians in the whole restaurant. anyways, bad service & the food wasn't all tha.Everyone looked at us like we had cooties or something.

Some friends and my gf & I ate here recently. They had been there before but my girlfriend and I had not. It was too noisy and hectic in the main indoor dining area so we asked the server if we could eat outside where they were other tables and other customers eating. (The temperature was right & the noise level much lower out there, so I was thinking we were off to a good start....) Unfortunately, "our" server (whomever that may have been) took about half an hour to finally figure out they should be helping us (after we had to walk inside and ask for help twice) and finally got our order and then our food to us. I'd have imagined he'd be a little more apologetic about ignoring a table for half an hour, too, but he wasn't. To make matters worse (how could they get much worse?!) the food in everyone opinion was only so-so (and over priced for what it is). The pizza looked nice though. I think I tried it but have no recollection of what it tasted like... so it must not have been that amazing. Overall I don't see what all the hype is about with this place --- it's not that great. Oh, and don't sit outside!!!!!!

We love the fusilli gorgonzola and the bruschetta. The only negative thing is that everything on the menu is not as delicious. We've had several misses, but the service is always great and the fusilli tastes like heaven.

On many occasions I have walked pass Tomatina writing it off as a wannabe Olive Garden. It gave me the impression that it was a big chain attempting to replicate Italian food. As much as it pains me to say it --I was wrong. My visits to Tomatina have become more frequent with time and the following dishes are at fault. Bruschetta, a starter that consist of a toasted Pugliese bread with basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, oven-dried tomatoes, field greens and tomato vinaigrette. It's a delicious way to start a dinner but I feel the portions could be a lot more generous. The odd numbers of pieces (3) make sharing situations awkward. One for you, one for me and the third... Ugh! Now I have to pretend I don't want to eat that last piece out of courtesy and offer it to date. In the past year I have become a big Ravioli fan so I naturally order the Ravioli di Formaggi. The plate is built around three cheese ravioli served over a tomato marinara sauce topped with grated Parmesan cheese. A single piece of bread lies on the lip of the plate and serves more as decoration than function or food. I find Tomatina's marinara sauce to be quite good, it is not sweet and it has the perfect amount of thickness to hang on to face of the ravioli. To quench my thirst and quiet my inner alcoholic I order a glass of Merlot (or bottle), Laurier Vineyards Merlot, its a great combination when paired with the thick and cheesy marinara sauce of the Ravioli; but not so good for sipping, its too dry. The wine was awarded the 2008 Sonoma Harvest Fair Bronze Medal which mean absolutely nothing to me but I'm sure some of you will care. As of this moment Tomatina's has provided a pleasant dining experience and I plan to return. My only irritation with Tomatina is the stacks of plates placed on every table. Why must everyone deal with a stack of plates just to please the occasional pizza order? Bring them out with the pizza and give me my table room... Please. I would love to give Tomatina a 3.5 rating but Yelp hates them so 3 stars it is.

When I was living in Alameda, I always loved stopping by Tomatina for their Turkey Piadine. It was light, fresh, and super filling. I could only finish half and always had to take the other half home. Flash forward three years later and I'm at Tomatina again. It was lunch time on a weekday and this place was packed, but there was luckily no wait. I ordered the Turkey Piadine without looking at the menu while my sister ordered the Pesto pasta with marinated steak. When we got my food, I noticed that the Piadine is crispier and thinner than I last remembered, it's definitely a lot less bread-like. Overall, the taste was still the same and I was content. I stole some forkfuls of my sister's pasta. The pasta itself was a little bland and boring but the marinated steak definitely added much needed flavor and pizzazz to the dish, so I definitely recommended this addition. I would suggest you skip on their water -- it tasted off to me, and that's something coming from a girl who drinks water from janky hole in the walls! Service was fast and I got the vibe that they wanted us in and out as fast as possible because there was a line forming. The prices are a bit high considering the food, so the place is a overrated. I will limit how often I indulge in Piadines after discovering that mine was a mind-boggling 1000 some calories. That's my intake for practically one day! Snap, son! Isn't that thing practically just salad?!

Absolutely insulting. We ordered take out. The man ordered carbonara and garlic rolls. I had steak with potatoes, and a "salad". The carbonara was way too thick and pasty, and was pretty flavorless. The steak was abysmal. Just awful. Really chewy random strips of very greasy steak meat. Clearly over cooked and not well-seasoned at all. The potatoes were just Okay and also greasy. The "salad" was a bunch of greasy artichokes and mushy red peppers (They said they wouldn't include the red peppers). I'd feed this to my dog if I were trying to punish him.

Good pasta and pizza although at times the service has been inconsistent. Definitely like the spicy pasta sauce and the pizzas. Pretty weak selection of beer on tap, all they have is Pyramid Hefeweizen, Anchor Steam, Fat Tire and Blue Moon, no IPAs, ESBs, Amber, Brown, Porters, Stouts, seasonals or specials. Wine selection is just OK, we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and they didn't have it so we had to go with an alternate.

Interesting little place that I would deem "Fresh Choice's first cousin", there was a sense you were at the well-known salad chain, this time with just an emphasis on tomatoes. It was recommended to us by another Alameda restaurant-keeper, and turned out to be ok. I had a salmon dish, my dining partner had a kind of tomato soup and gnocchi. The gnocchi was an amazing parme-gasm of the starchy overload of pasta and cheese. The gf's tomato soup was also really good, with a sense of slight spiciness and rich, bold flavor. My salmon was good at best, if just a little inadequate. I felt the service was good and attentive at 10pm but I wouldn't get the salmon again. This is the kind of place that you need them to do what they're good at making; there's a lot to be said about asking the wait staff what the most popular dish is. Get something involving tomatoes, such as a soup or pizza, and you'll have the best chance of enjoying the best this cornerstore restaurant has to offer.

The waitress we had yesterday was phenomenal! I wish I got her name. She was very great with recommendations and her overall personality was upbeat! I give this place a 4 Bc my chicken Alfredo seemed to be all pasta and no sauce, but my husbands penne bolognese was top notch amazing! Overall, the pasta for both dishes was very fresh. We will be returning! (Ate here 2 years ago. Wish they had the creamy carbonara sauce still! I was craving it yesterday).

We visit Alameda, CA a couple of times a year from Hawaii. Tomatina is almost always one of the stops during our stay. The restaurant is clean, the food is fresh and it's a kid friendly place. My favorite is the pasta but they do make good pizzas too. Give them a try, it won't break the bank to eat here too.

Eh. They have some decent food items (the beet salad and the pesto chicken pizza), however the rest of the experience here tends to be lacking. Don't count on making any special requests or substitutions on your order -- it'll come out the normal way anyway. The most frustrating thing? Their bar is so incredibly, amazingly slow. They have some good cocktails, but it takes forever to get them. It doesn't matter if it's busy or if the place is nearly empty, it'll take 25 minutes + to get your drink. We started ordering our second drink as soon as we got the first one because it takes that long. Yesterday we went in and ordered cocktails, then 5-10 minutes later ordered an appetizer and entrees. The food made it out before the drinks. The appetizer came out after the entree. As soon as drink #1 came, we ordered a second...30 minutes later, we've finished our meal, and drink #2 still hasn't arrived, so we cancelled it (note that this was also the first time the server had checked on us). Then she acted like she was doing us a big favor to take the two drinks off our bill that we didn't get. And these weren't complicated drinks, but one of their signature cocktails. I can't imagine how much money they lose just on drinks they don't sell because it takes their bar 25+ minutes to make them. We used to go here regularly, but it's now coming off of our list of places to go in Alameda.

Our favorite server, Daniel Perez, has returned after a year's absence. My wife Lucy, and I went there several times while he was gone but it was not the same. Daniel is very professional and knowledgeable and gives each guest his absolute attention. The pizzas are fired in a brick oven and the various piadine are outstanding. The sauces, the pasta and the meat balls are great. If you are in the mood for a salad, this is the perfect place. Give it a try and have fun at Tomatina, in Alameda. Great job. David G. Tomatina has become my family's go-to dinner spot in Alameda. All the things I've had there have been very tasty. On my most recent visit, I started off with the Vanilla Mint Lemonade. It was to die for. I've never had anything that tasted quite like it. It's like a sparkling lemonade with muddled mint and a hint of vanilla. Absolutely heavenly. For my dinner, I had the Caprese Piadine. A piadine is like a baked flatbread with a salad on top, folded in half. It was so light and refreshing, yet filling. I highly recommend this unique entree.

Food is OK here. The free bread was the most appetizing than my meal. We asked our server for a kids menu twice and she still didn't get it for us, had to get up and get it ourselves. I didn't taste or experience anything unique than all other Italian restaurants. Would I come here again, maybe if I had to. However, I wouldn't come here again by choice.

The Mediterranean Salad is amazing! The service was excellent, and the monthly special - gnocchi - was delicious! Started with a Moscow Mule, which was my first time trying, I had to find out what the craze was all about, and I must say I really liked it! One of my new favorite places to eat, if for nothing else than the Mediterranean salad! Oh, and the tomato concoction they provide with the bread is out of this world scrumptious!

We went to this restaurant on a recommendation. We do not live in the area and wanted to try it. Because it was late in the evening and we had young kids we decided to phone order and bring it back to our hotel. The restaurant was clean and the staff was helpful. We ordered the garlic rolls based on YELP recommendations. Needless to say these were disgusting on take out. The rolls were saturated in oil with some garlic and herbs. The oil was too much and the rolls were not edible as every bite you took was soggy, flavorless oil soaked bread. I ordered the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. It had some flavor but by the time it was taken back to the hotel the noodles were clumped together and the chicken was dry. My wife ordered the insalata mixta which she said was flavorful but small for the cost ($7). She also had the Fusilli Gorgonzola which she described as nothing special. This review is based on take out only and not service at the restaurant itself.

Satise and I went here for the first time for a nice dinner date this evening. We walked in, noticed the place was pretty busy (as it usually seems to be during this time), and we were seated in their outside heated patio area in the back. Service was good & quick. For starters we had the garlic rolls, which tasted good. We ordered Piadines to try something new and were delighted with the freshness of its ingredients. I had the Chicken Gorgonzola and Satise had the Caprese. I wish mine had more chicken and not so much greens. We'll be back to try their pizzas.

The food is just ok...exactly what you'd expect for this type of chain restaurant. The service is not good. Really slow.

On Saturday, 8/16/14, my girlfriend and I ate at Tomatina for lunch. I've been wanting to eat here for a while so we made the trip to Alameda. Atmosphere/Decor: The restaurant is medium sized. There's plenty of seating. I saw an outdoor dining area which looked pretty nice. The restaurant kind of reminds me of Amici's. When we walked into the restaurant there was a weird smell present. The smell was covered up once food was being prepared. When I walked to the restrooms I noticed a lot of food scraps on the kitchen floor where the chefs cook. There is no way that food was from today. We literally got there a few minutes after the restaurant opened. It had to be there from the previous day. Food: I ordered the Mama's Spaghetti and Meatballs (our own all - beef meatballs braised with fresh herbs, tomato sauce and parmesan.) I thought it was pretty good. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce had a nice simple flavor to it. The flavor of the meatballs was really good but the texture was mushy. If the meatballs were a little bit more firm this dish would be excellent. I also ordered the medium sized Carne Combro Pizza (mozzarella, parmesan, tomato sauce, sweet Italian sausage, pepperoni, prosciutto and sautéed mushrooms.) I liked the pizza a lot! The pepperoni, sausage, and Prosciutto tasted really fresh and flavorful. It was good regular tasting pizza. My girlfriend ordered the Gnocchi with Sausage Special. My girlfriend said her dish overall was good but she also said she's had better gnocchi. Service: Our waiter Alexander was good but the only complaint that we had about him was that he didn't bring us any bread nor did he offer it to us. We even saw a waitress give a couple different tables bread. Overall: Overall Tomatina is a pretty good Italian restaurant but if your in Alameda and want great Italian food go to Trabocco instead.

Ok so this is the 2nd time in a month that we have eaten at this restaurant. Food is always decent but service here sucks!!!!!! We have been ignored! Gotten drinks after our dinner is finished!! Noticed our waitress waiting for food at food bar instead of checking on tables while waiting for food to come out! Had to get up and hunt down the waitress for service or check more then once, both times we got Monica! Next time we will ask to be seated In another section!

The food and service are both adequate. Stopped in for lunch. Had pizza and focaccia bread. The focaccia bread tasted store bought. They brought a tomato dressing (tomatoes, olive oil and spices). The bread would have been better warmed, but it still would have tasted fake. The pizza toppings were good. The cheese was good. The sauce seemed to have a bit of cream in it, but that also might have been from the mozzarella. The biggest problem with the pizza was the crust. It's a thin crust, looked delicious, but was ultimately bland. Also pre-made. I waited a bit for the host to seat me - he had disappeared from his station. When I went to ask for a booster seat for my son the host said he would get it after he helped the family that had just walked in. They had an extended conversation and I never got the seat. It made me feel pretty unimportant. Like, first I had this weird wait to be seated, rather disinterestedly after that, and then my request gets forgotten. The server was fine. Nothing spectacular or awful. I wasn't terribly delighted or disappointed, but I won't be going there again.

they totally forgot about my friend's good. Her pasta was a bit under cook and was very bland. They also do not check if we're okay and if we wanted some more water.

Having tried the Tomatina in Walnut Creek, Santa Clara, and Dublin, I've noticed that the chains are quite different with regards to ambiance and also slight variations in food. My husband grew up up eating piadinis at Tomatina, particularly the caesar ones. However, the best part of the caesar piadini is the cheesy garlic sauce on the flat bread. Compared to the Santa Clara and Dublin chains, this one compares to the Walnut Creek branch in that it has the perfect amount of sauce coverage. Definitely don't miss out not the caesar piadini and toss in an order of garlic rolls. Tomatina is a great place for groups and family, particularly kid friendly.

Recent improvement in customer service, which was one of my big complaint about this place in my previous review. Saw some new faces. It's good to see them openly training their new employees on proper customer service. Very satisfied with recent visits. Employees were very courteous over the phone and were friendlier and more attentive inside the restaurant. Well done Tomatinas! It's good to see management paying attention to customers' inputs and taking action.

Generic chain of Italian restaurants. Nothing special, not bad either. If I really have so little to say about a place, it's better to forget about it and try other places... The restaurant was empty when we stopped by at 2pm. They had a few lunch specials (I think lunch is served until 3pm), the prices were OK. My parents had pizza and pasta, I had a Cesar's salad with anchovies. Staff was very friendly and the place was clean.

Worst service I have ever received, pizza wasn't so bad, I have never been in such a mismanaged restaurant in my life. I had to advocate for myself, my father and another patron. I will NEVER go there again. First and last time. In my life I have NEVER left no tip... Today was the day. Get your sh@& together and learn how to run a restaurant.

My hubby and I were seated in the table section when they only had service assigned to the booths. After waiting for 15 minutes for service and seeing servers running between the booths and completely ignoring the tables, we decided it wasn't worth our time to see when we would be noticed. Poorly run establishment!

Yeah, I'm not sure how we lived here over 2 years and haven't tried this place out, but we finally did recently. No regrets. The lunch special is a great way to really try their selection. Got to try the pizza and the spaghetti & meatballs, both of which are really good. The pizza is nice, crisp and yummy ... the meatballs are also meaty. Got this meatball hater loving it. It's a little above what we usually pay for a regular dinner out, but totally worth it.

For some reason, I had my reservations about this restaurant. My boyfriend and I would look for places to eat in Alameda, and whenever he suggested Tomatina, I always said no. Eh, maybe I was not in the mood for the pasta or pizza served there, but I always refused. Until one day, I just said why not... So to Tomatina we went. The restaurant is large and the ambience is very welcoming. They have great lighting and booths as well as tables. There is a bar, an area to view the brick oven pizza, and outdoor seating in the rear for more privacy. My boyfriend and I did not dine in, so I am unable to speak on the service. We ordered the seafood risotto to go. They completed our order in 15-20 minutes. The seafood risotto did it for me; the shrimp and vegetables worked well together and it was creamy with the right amount of spice. The dish was savory, and exceeded my expectations. Even though we shared, I was so full! The seafood risotto demolished any reservations I had about the restaurant. I'll go back confident about ordering that dish.

Got seated pretty quickly, but that was the extent. Sat there at our table while we watched a couple get seated 5 minutes after us and have a waitress take their order. Another 10 minutes of waiting and we see that another table that had been seated for longer still didn't have their order taken. Waited another 5 minutes without a single person saying a thing, even though multiple employees passed by, and then started to put on our coats and walk out. On the way out I told the hostess and 2 other employees standing around next to her that they have no wait staff for the tables, and that only the booths received any service; the response, "oh yeah, we know that we don't have anyone waiting on the tables right now." THE EFFFFFFFFFF?!?!?! WHY EVEN SEAT ANY ONE AT THE TABLES THEN?!?!?!

Tomatina, of all the restaurants you have the most potential But you're flawed in the steps to greatness that is sequential From walking in, getting food, being waited on, and leaving Just the missed opportunities were fleeting I say you have potential because your food is great It's been a while since I've said that to date Your garlic bread, pizzas and pastas are so good But to become great, there are steps that need to be taken, they should From wait staff being nice (smiling) and making sure every need was met and not leaving us in the corner and not stopping by much, let you forget that we're paying a lot for the experience to be there at Tomatina You'll need to work hard in the competitive restaurant arena So the food is great here (though kind of inconsistent in terms of presentation and amount). The garlic bread is amazing, and the oil/cheese that it comes with, you can dip anything in there and it'll be amazing. The pizzas are solid and the BEST thing they have there is called the Semi-Freddo, it's basically gelato with shots of expresso on top.... it's THE BEST. Given the great food, I would say that the disappointment comes from the wait staff. They're slow, they don't come by often enough to see how we're doing and most of the time the waiters/waitresses are hit or miss in terms of showing that they're there to provide great customer service, or they're just waiting until their shift ends. Either way, I see so much potential for this place if they invested in some customer service training or were more selective in the people they hired. If they had great servers, then this place would definitely hit to 4.5 stars for me.

Sat at the bar, happily expecting to have cold one while I wait for my pizza to go. Wait, what?! No, not at this bar my friend I'm afraid... The bartender was happy to serve me the cold one but refused to take my order to go. Seriously?! He said 'see the host for take out' then promptly turned away. Unbelievable. Would it really throw your night off kilter to serve me a drink and also put my food in a go-box??! On previous occasions the food was decent. The bartender needs a lesson or two in customer service. Bowzers next door was only happy to serve a cold drink while I waited for my take out. Go figure.

I just ordered Pescadero with linguine and clams and extra sauce. I this is my favorite pasta every time I come to this restaurant good service and good atmosphere somewhat loud but it's okay.and I didn't have the Caesar salad and it was delicious and with their appetizer with tomato and bread spread was very good.

I've only ordered takeout... The one star was for customer service. Waiting 10min and we ordered online, after putting all our food in the bag I noticed they forgot to give us some ranch for the 8 garlic rolls I ordered. This lady gave me 1small container for the ranch, I asked her if I could have another since I ordered the 8 rolls instead of 4 rolls... She tells me "NO" she's not allowed to give me more. Are u kidding me? Hella skimpy on ranch. NO TIP!

I've overall had pretty good service every time I've come here. Food is always fresh and usually fast. Tonight I ordered the carbonara switching the pasta to fettuccine instead of the orechiette that it normally comes with. (I ordered it with no changes before and while good, I just like pasta I can twirl with a fork.) The portion seemed bigger with the fettuccine instead of the orechiette. The fettuccine is their only fresh pasta so it cost $2 extra than other available choices like spaghetti and spaghettini. The texture of fresh pasta is softer and I find more flavorful. (I previously ordered their fresh pappardelle in the fall and it was also a nice soft texture.) For appetizer we had their bruschetta di pomodori August special (not the same as the normal bruschetta on their main menu) Tomatoes were fresh tasting and the bread was nice and crisply toasted. On our previous visit the kitchen had some kind of mess up and our food was delayed (maybe by 8-10 min), the server was very apologetic and came to check on us while we were waiting to make sure we weren't short of beverage refills and to assure us he was still checking on our food. As an apology for the delay he had our appetizer comped which was a nice gesture. I appreciate the attentiveness even though it wasn't specifically his fault our food was not ready and for offering the comp. This is a nice place to go for inexpensive fresh italian food that's got a nice variety of more "fancy" dishes and some classics like spaghetti and meatballs or fettuccine alfredo. Their kitchen is open so you can see the chefs making your dishes. They have a nice casual atmosphere and are kid friendly. They have outdoor seating as well if you brought your dog along, there's heaters if it gets cold in the evening.

Long wait with the host and poor service overall. The redeemable part is the food is decent. Asked for Togo box for half eaten pizza and they brought a box instead of pizza box so we tried to fix the pizza it. Never refilled our beverages

I really like how much Tomatina has changed over the years. The menu has gotten a lot better and the food is much more flavorful. My favorite items would be the creamy pesto penne (you can add grilled chicken), spaghetti and meatballs, and the hummus flat bread! Yum! If you try any of these you won't be disappointed. They make some of the best creamy pesto that I've had and the flat bread with hummus, feta, and sundried tomatoes is sooo good! I would have given this place 3 stars back in the day, but they've really turned things around. I enjoy the food here and the service is friendly and efficient. It gets really packed on the weekends, so I would suggest coming here during a week day.

First time here. I heard the garlic rolls were amazing so of course we had to try those. We actually just wanted dessert but couldn't resist the rolls. So we order the tolls and strawberry rhubarb crisp with vanilla ice cream. Oh my word!! The rolls were piping hot with lots of garlic, seasoning, and EVOO. Yum-O! The strawberry rhubarb crisp was so good!! Not too sweet and not too tart. It was perfect!! The staff was friendly and the food was great. I can't wait to come back and try the pizzas, pasta and salads. Everything that was coming out of the kitchen looked delish.

Quick to sit down. Tried the garlic rolls which were okay. Then tried the minestrone soup which was bland and had no flavor. Ordered the penne which was okay, lack of some flavor to say the lease. Felt like our server forgot about us since I had to almost yell to get her attention. Overall, very basic and no flavor on the food. Wouldn't come again for the food or service.

12/18/14 THE 2 STAR RATING IS FOR THE SERVICE I RECEIVED. The food was great and if I were rating just the food I would have given them 4 Stars. I will go back and try again & if the service improves then I will recant my 2 Stars. There's nothing worse than going to one of your favorite spots and having really crappy service, but that is exactly what occurred. We sit & the waitress arrives, we were asked if we wanted anything to drink. She brings the sodas & then she disappeared into the abyss.. I had to wave her down to take our order & when she arrived I kindly stated were on our lunch HOUR. She took the order & disappeared into the abyss.... In the meantime she never offered us any appies, bread, refills or anything for that matter and it took forever to get our food. So,we finally get our food & by that time our lunch hour is almost up & still no offer for drink refills or anything else. At one point I was literally coughing/choking and still no offer. I had to flag her down to beg for a refill at which point she takes my glass & walks off... not one word spoken. When she returned, I asked for some freshly grated Parmesan & she pointed to the bottle on the table & says it's right there on the table. I said; oh ok thank you but could I get some freshly grated? Which she replied that "IS" fresh..... OK, well the last time I was in here I was able to get what I asked for, not a lippy waitress. (No, I didn't say that to her but I thought about it) All she had to do was walk on over to the chef's station & ask for some freshly grated Parmesan. Unless this was her first day being a waitress they are going to have problems. I certainly can't be the only one who noticed.

First time being here and I'm glad I came. The place is very classy looking and atmosphere is chill and inviting. I was going to try the pasta but decided to try their pizza. I ordered the Carne Combo pie and it was some of the best pizza I've had. The pasta looked good to and will definitely come back to try next time.

I go to Tomatina occasionally and really like this place however the last two times I've ordered take out the food has been incredibly SALTY, to the point of being inedible. The salmon and the veggies it comes with was coated in salt! I could not eat it. My family ordered takeout so I got to sample the Brussels sprout salad and the calzones which were extremely salty as well.

So I really loved this place when it opened, and I love Italian food so I WANT to like this place, but their pastas are inconsistent and sometimes not very well seasoned, the pizza and garlic rolls are pretty good, and everything else is pretty mediocre. The real problem here is the service. First of all, they are really slow, and although they don't do anything outwardly rude, they have a rude way about them, kind of standoffish, like they're annoyed to be helping you and doing their job. I have a pretty severe shellfish allergy. So of course, I always double check that it is not in what I'm ordering, and also make a special note to the server that who ever prepares the food must at least wash their hands, because I can't even have anything thats touched my allergen. And I'm not someone with trendy fake allergies, and since I'm asking them to do something very simple, to not cross contiminate, something most restaurants should be doing anyway. I'm not asking to be rude, I'm just double checking, because there are times I've inquired about my allergy and have still had a reaction. So I tell him "I am allergic to shellfish, I'm just ondering if there is anything that is cooked next to, or with shellish that I should avoid on the menu, or should I just stick with something vegetarian that is not placed on a grill, so I wont have to worry." To which he replies, "No, no no, we don't serve that here." Which is wrong, since I SAW items that contained shrimp etc. I point that out to him and he tells me "Well then order something without shrimp in it." Clearly talking down to me. And I explain to him, thats not what I'm asking I'm asking if things that do not contain shrimp/ shellfish are safe for me to order, and if the cooks can do the simple task of washing their hands before preparing my food, or if they have a seperate station for seafood, as many restaurants do. So just to be safe, I order soup and no allergic reaction. I'm not asking people to bend over backwards to me, but they should at least be able to answer a simple question about the kitchen, and they should REALLY know the defenition of shellfish, and not pretend that you don''t have something when soneone says they're allergic to it.

This is the first time that we have had a meal at Tomatina in Alameda and I was pleasantly pleased. I had the Cobb salad which had chicken breast, pancetta, hard boiled egg, Gorgonzola cheese, romaine lettuce, fresh tomatoes and ranch dressing. The salad was very filling, fresh and crunchy and I enjoyed every bite. I will for sure order that the next time I am here. My hubby had the chopped salad which had romain lettuce, garbonzo beans, red onion, pepperoni, mozzarella, tomatoes and salami with a creamy balsamic dressing. His word to describe this dish is, "scrumptious". My 11 year old had the Spaghetti and meatballs- "the best spaghetti I've ever had except for Gramdma's". Now that's a compliment because she makes some darn good spaghetti sauce! Samantha was truly gracious and attentive as a server. She made this an even better experience than it was already. Good choice for a Sunday afternoon. We will certainly be back.

This is a good, solid choice if you are in the area. I had an appointment down the street after lunch so my colleague and I came in after checking Yelp. We both got the caprese piadine, and we were happy it came out pretty fast. It was huge! We probably could have shared one, but it wasn't too expensive anyways so I felt like it was a good value. I didn't know what a piadine was. It's basically pizza dough with a salad on top of it that you fold over and eat. It felt healthier than a sandwich because there wasn't super dense bread. Would definitely eat here again!

Tomatina can be a hit or miss. The food isn't bad, sometimes it's good. I feel like their menu has gotten better. Staff is friendly and it's a nice-sized, family-friendly restaurant. I'm being generous in taking away two stars, however, due to an icky experience that I think should have been handled better. I found a long, blonde hair in my spaghetti once. Obviously, it wasn't mine. They were good about replacing the dish, but I sort of lost my appetite after the one hairy bite. I think it would have been nice if they would have comped the dish, or at least my $5 sangria, but all I got was an semi-genuine apology. *shrug*

Highlights + Bruschetta! Roasted sliced tomatoes + pesto makes this shine + Chicken piadine! Or honestly any of their piadines :) + Strawberry Lemonade + This place is nice and spacious! It looks a tad more fancy-snazzy than some of the other restaurants in the area. Lowlights - their servers tend to be subpar, and I always see new faces, so they probably take in people with no experience - Pizzas are decent, but portions have shrunk a lot over the years :/ Overall, their piadines are the more unique dish you can get, though can get kinda messy to eat. Not a superb place, but it gets the job done

Great Italian place. The personal pizzas are delish, especially the margherita! Their lunch menus are very reasonably priced, as well. Most of all, their tiramisu is off the hook! It's very rare that I say that about restaurants. People don't usually get it right... But this place is great! And try the mocha! Yumm!

Went here with my friend and sister. Let's start off by saying our waitress was beyond rude and snobby. She didn't even have a name tag (guess none of them did..thats how they do it there?) So when I needed something I had to ask anyone. She never bothered to ask us if we needed anything or how our meal was doing. For our meals; thought it would be a homemade, classic italian dish. I was wrong. Really heard great reviews of this place but when I came, guess it wasn't my or their lucky day :(. Don't know if i would come back.

Delicious Pizza & Italian Cusine in Downtown Alameda SITREP I found myself in Alameda this evening and what an utter delight to walk over the entry way into Tomatina, because little did I know there would be so many wondrous taste treats to try here. Chef Rogelio Jacinto - my new best friend! - is the man who exploded my taste buds with incredible Italian dishes that my group of friends enjoyed, including specialty salads, antipastos, pizzas, crostini, raviolis, Italian-style polenta & savory meatballs. THE SETUP Chef Rogelio and his talented crew of chefs bring back the Old World traditions that they fostered first in Napa Valley, and then brought to Alameda by introducing a diverse menu of items including seasonable pastas, crafted pizzas, calzones, and piadines - a Tomatina unique take on flatbread sandwichest or as bite-size appetizers I enjoyed with mozzarella on this occasion. TOMATINA CREW ENERGY! The chefs, servers & bartenders are amazing, since they syncrenize their functions together as a team, weaving a seamless progression of food preparation in a fast-paced environment, each person is dedicated to excellent customer service. I have nothing but the highest praise for these individuals who catered to our very large group this evening! LE MENU Dishes that we shared with each other in our group included specifically: * Delicious Mozzarella & Mushroom appetizer flatbread crostini * Scrumptious Meat Combo Pizzas * A zesty Italian Polenta with Tomato * Veggie Pizzas * Butternut Squash Raviolis * Savory Italian Meatballs; and, MAKING MOZZARELLA And as a gracious host, Chef Rogelio gets right into the thick of things with his patrons, and brought some of us into their large kitchen space where he showed us how to make mozzarrella. This was a lot of fun! THE LOWDOWN Tomatina is a delicious Italian stop in Alameda that you need to check out!

Pretty good but nothing to rave about. Portion sizes are a bit small. Lasagna: I think it had like two layers which makes it not really a lasagna anymore, in my book. The flavors are a bit underwhelming- I just get a lot a of acidity from the tomato sauce and not much else. Spaghetti: satisfying, good al dente noodles and flavorful sauce. Meatballs were very good, but not extraordinary. Other things~ Atmosphere is quite nice- there's an open air kitchen and is quite spacious. But overall, not the greatest nor worst of Alameda's offerings.

Wow, I rarely have such a memorable experience from a restaurant, but last night was one to remember. The entire staff there was so friendly! My old fashion was made to perfection, even had the angostura bitters in it. All the flavors of garlic, olive oil, fresh mozzarella cheese, wood burning oven, thin crust was all wonderful. My mouth was filled with flavor explosions! The butter nut squash raviolis topped with fresh roasted butternut squash was equally as good. For dessert the pumpkin cheesecake was a perfect finish, just the right mix of pumpkin, graham cracker crust, and dense cheese...mmm wishing there was a piece here now. I will definitely be back. This was my first time at this location, I had tried the one in Dublin, which was fine, but this one really won me over. In summary: cute, clean, extensive menu and bar, great food, great location, and great service.

I do not recommend this place for people eating with kids because lunch there took over an hour and a half because it took over 50 minutes from when ordered to get our food. When our party of arrived the restaurant was nearly empty. The restaurant started to fill up and all of the tables that were seated after us started getting their food. The waitress never once came over to check in, offer bread, or apologize as every other table in the restaurant got their food. 45 minutes later, I finally said something and eventually our food arrived. The manager offered us a free desert aka something we didn't want as an apology instead of removing an appetizer that we ordered off of the bill. Bad service from management and the wait staff.

My favorite restaurant bruschetta! Plus many vegetarian and pescaterian options. Friendly staff, nice ambiance, and I love the pizza oven and open kitchen. Definitely a great go-to restaurant for many occasions.

food has always been great along with the service but the next day after having dinner with my friend and his son, i felt the affects of our dinner (large carne combo) which kept me out of work for 3 days now, almost 4. Vomitting and Diaherrea the first day then jus diaherrea on the 2nd and 3rd days. This can be anywhere from cross contamination, spoiled food, etc. I work as a chef so i know.. This has been one of my go to spots when my friend comes and visits with his family, next time i jus gotta be careful....very careful

Queuing at host station on Friday nite is horrible! I have my takeout food but they've taken 10 minutes to ring me up...and they've had my credit card in hand! Instead answered phone to take order and other host trying to sit tables and manage wait list. Too much activity in a poorly designed host station.

Went here for lunch with my wife and sister-in-law, were sat down right away. However, we waited 15 minutes and no one talked to us at all. Wait-staff kept ignoring us so we left. I've been here before and I got decent service. I'm shocked with the horrible "service" we got. I recommend going down the street (which is what we did after leaving) to Linguini's where the food and service are always great.

We've been to Tomatina before and thought that the meal was ok, so we decided to give it another shot. That was a mistake. The good: Nice atmosphere The bad: - Our waitress was unfamiliar with the menu and couldn't answer any of our questions. - We ordered the house sangria. For $7 per glass, we expected something tasty. It was bland and had more carbonated soda in it than red wine. I don't recommend it. - We ordered a gluten-free pizza. I'm not naive, I understand that there's an up-charge for gluten-free (it even says so on the menu), however, what it does not say (and we were not told) was that when you order a gluten-free version of any of their pizzas, all of the toppings are treated as extras. As a result, a small pizza had a $7 up-charge. $7 for gluten-free dough that's not even prepared in a contamination-free environment is ridiculous. When I complained to the waitress, she didn't offer a clear response. On our way out, I wanted to talk to a manager, but they had all disappeared from the front. We will never go back to Tomatina and I will not recommend them. Price gouging and weak drinks. There are far better pizzerias to go to in Berkeley and Oakland.

Dear Karolyn Kares, I'm a shy male in my mid 40's. I have a few friends that I like, but I have trouble making new friends and meeting new people. I'm starting to leave the house more, and it's making me realize how lonely I really am. How can I meet some new friends? Will they like me? Thanks in advance, Martin ---------- Dear Martin, Of course they'll like you! Do you know why? Because you're going to lighten the mood by making a joke! Feel free to borrow one that I made recently: I came to Tomatina a few weeks ago and ordered a margherita pizza, and it came with a ton of basil. There was basil on top, and lots of basil in the sauce. Thankfully, I like basil. My friend wanted a slice, and when I gave her one, I asked her if she wanted a little bit of pizza to go with her basil! Get it??? Because there was so much basil on it. It's as if I ordered basil, and they put some pizza on the side. Ha, ha, Martin. Your new friends will love it. They'll also like you if you bring them here. They have a lot of good vegetarian options, but their menu is a bit strange when it comes to pointing them out. They have a picture of a tomato next to the name of a dish to indicate that it doesn't have meat, but it may have seafood. Before you think that this is a hip new place that serves soy-based "fish" or something equally cool, the menu notes that their "vegetarian" dishes may contain fish. You're best off asking the waiter/ess, just in case. Speaking of vegetarianism, a few times that I've been here in the past five years, I've found tiny bits of chicken in whatever I've ordered. Although it's rare, you do want to look closely at your meal when it comes if you don't eat meat. Each time, they've been really good about taking it back and giving me my money back or making me a new dish. As harsh as it sounds, I can't recall having this problem at most comparable restaurants. That being said, they have wonderful food and friendly service. My favorite menu item is the roasted cauliflower and broccoli side. They cook it with garlic and feta cheese, and it's one of my top five dishes EVER. I always ask for it to be well-done, though, because that seems to bring the flavor out more and make it taste better. It's pretty cheap, too, and sometimes they'll let you pair it with sides of pasta to make a meal. It's also on their lunch menu. If you can try only one thing on the menu, get this! Their pizzas have always been good. I've tried their caprese piadine (sort of a folded pizza sandwich, but different than a calzone), and it comes with a creamy dressing. The dressing was awful (but then, I hate creamy dressings), but the whole piadine was pretty good once I got the dressing off. They used to have a three-cheese piadine on the menu that I got with lemon vinaigrette instead of the ranch dressing that came with it, and that was amazing. It's no longer on the menu, but it deserves to be mentioned because it tasted great. They do have gluten-free options. Their cauliflower/broccoli side is gluten-free. Their iced tea is fresh-brewed. Tomatina is also great for those dining alone or with children. I always see both when I'm there. It has just the right amount of noise, and it's a great place to spend an hour or two catching up on work during a slow afternoon. They also have, get this, a patio! I've never eaten there, because it always seems to be too hot or cold when I go, but it looks relaxing! XOXO, Karolyn Kares

While walking along Park St. looking for places to have lunch, Tomatina caught my eye because I wanted something light and refreshing. Service: Polite but Turrrrible. HOST: I walked in and was immediately greeted by the male host who did a good job initially with eye contact and attentiveness. However after asking if we could sit outside, he told me he will check if there are any available tables. When he came back, there was no acknowledgement on his part and his eyes were wandering right past us to the outside environment (probably checking out girls?). It wasn't until he grabbed 3 menus that he asked us to follow him. Not that turrible. WAITRESS/WAITER: The waitress came and greeted us fairly quickly. She took down 3 waters but we didn't get our waters until seriously 10 minutes later. Talk about being DRY and thirsty! We ordered the "lunch specials" ($9.50) and garlic rolls appetizer (DELICIOUS). When taking our order the waitress was very pleasant and friendly and I did not feel rushed so that was a plus. A different waiter came to deliver the garlic rolls and then went to grab us some plates. 2 of the plates had some gross orange stuff on it so I asked to exchange them. He politely obliged but came back with another dirty plate. He left already so I just scratched off whatever stuff it was but it was definitely unnerving. He came back with our meals. FOOD: The portions were disappointingly small and the taste was AVERAGE at best but that's what we get for ordering the lunch specials huh? haha btw we had minestrone soup (lacked flavor), mixed green salad, mixta salad (bowl size about the size of my palm), spaghetti w/ meatballs (Chef Boyardee?), chicken spaghettini (not bad!), & cheese ravioli (ok taste but only about 5 ravioli's). What's funny is our main courses arrived before our first courses of soup and salad. Also we had to remind him that we hadn't received our soup or salad yet. He was really polite but CLUELESS (i'm not sure if it is his responsibility as the waitress took the order--not quite sure how the back-end of kitchen logistics works so understandable). While eating, I looked over at the other tables and saw that they have what looks like complimentary bread so I ask the original waitress when she came back to check on us. She politely said she will bring some bread back no problem but APPARENTLY if you don't ask for free bread you won't get it? Maybe it was because we ordered garlic rolls but I feel like water and complimentary bread should be prioritized (but hey i'm just a hungry and thirsty customer). After the bill came I gave $41 cash (obviously with tip) but the waitress came back and gave change... I'm not sure of Tomatina's protocol but it seemed like she disagreed with the tip amount by returning with change. As she was clearing the table and we were leaving, she just left the change on the table and didn't say thank you. I'm a big believer in second chances so I may come back because I know that one bad experience may not be representative of Tomatina's overall service and vision. Regardless the food was edible and the ambiance was chill. If I come back, I will probably order something other than the lunch special and choose to sit inside! Parking: mainly street parking, with a few nearby parking lots. Hope this helps

I have come here 5 or 6 times before for the pizza and it is pretty good in my opinion and the service has always been so-so at best, but this particular visit took was the last straw. This past weekend I went and tried the pasta dishes. While the food itself was good the overall experience was awful in my opinion. #1 - The soda I ordered was flat. I informed the waiter that the soda was flat and asked for a different one just in case the system works differently for a different drink. I was mistaken and had another awful soda. I decided at that point to just give up on getting a soda that tasted good. #2 - My significant other ordered a pasta dish with chicken ... with chicken in the name. While in conversation we received our dishes and immediately started to eat. At some point my girlfriend looked around her dish to see if there was chicken in it and there wasn't. At this point she was about 1/3 of the way done with the pasta and I told her to just stop and we waited for the waiter to come around and asked him if it was possibly small shredded chicken and he said no it should be full slices of chicken. We said we didn't need more pasta, just the cooked chicken that was missing. My significant other watched as he brought it back to the cook staff and informed them of the missing chicken. Then she watched as one of the cooks behind the glass ... inspected the pasta as if she was lying about it. That was it for me. #3- It was also very off putting to have the staff congregated near the entrance eating and chatting even though some were on shift. I understand if they are off shift, but our waiter went and put a knee on the seat of a chair as if half ready to jump and serve people at any time, but having a conversation with his coworkers. Don't get me wrong. The food was good. The attention to detail was horrible. Then to top it off pretty much assuming we lied about the chicken not being there. I for one will never patronize this restaurant again. I cannot give my money to a place that fails to treat my significant other and myself with respect. My Tip: Order To Go if you want to keep being a patron of this restaurant.

Tomatina is a go-to restaurant if you have kids and like Italian. It's a small chain, so nothing too amazing here - but solid. Piadines are very good, and my kids love the meatballs. I think the salads are generally good too. Service is friendly, but occasionally not super on the ball - and there is often a long wait.

This was always our favorite resturant, up until it remodeled. Ever since, their service has been extrememly slow.Today, their was a couple in front if us, and the hostess directed us to our seat, and we figured out what order. We waited for ten minutes for a waiter to wait on us, but no one came. We walked out the door, and even then, they didn't see us. I am cery dissapointed in this place:(

Let me start by saying the service here is phenomenal. The waiters are extremely friendly and served us right away. The complimentary bread was pretty good and came in generous amounts. The place was really clean and had a homey atmosphere . The service was fast and the food was good. Overall a good experience and would come again.

I have never really been to Alameda, or really anywhere on the other side of the bridge except for the airport so to find a whole little community that is amazing, was quite surprising. Nestled on their main street in Alameda, is this wonderful little Italian place that really raises the bar. My boyfriend's parents took us here for 'Meet The Parents' and it was the perfect setting. A casual place with class. The whole staff was so sweet to us and the food was amazing. I didn't think I would like it too much because I am not truly a fan of Italian food. I used to be but my tastes have changed in the last few years. Their food is really, really delicious. They offer a wide variety of items to suit any mood and I love that they offer nutritious items, like their Insalata Mixta. The large was $8.75 and was enough for 4 people. We also had the Garlic Rolls, The Garden Pizza and their Fettuccine with Shrimp. Each dish was prepared to perfection and had a lot of flavor. My favorite was the Fettuccine with Shrimp. I was supposed to be sharing it with my boyfriend but I think I ate almost all of it. I don't think he minded. It was so good though. Very flavorful with plump jumbo shrimp. Add a little parmesan (I am addicted to parmesan) and you have heaven in a bowl. I normally don't go for vegetarian or garden pizzas but this was a good choice, as it was more on the lighter side. Perfect for those of you that want to indulge without the bulge. I mixed it with the Fettuccine sauce and parmesan and it was perfect. It was such a fun night because we wanted to talk all night. The staff was nice about not rushing us out. We probably stayed way longer than we should have. A great night with great food is what this place is all about. Not a hint of pretension. I really wish there was one closer to me but I don't mind going to Alameda just to eat at this place because it's totally worth it.

First of all, walking into this restaurant- an aroma litterally slaps you in the face and it's the most heavenly italian food/flavors you could ever smell . I wish I could bottle this smell up, I would wear the perfume everyday and douse my house in it. The fettuccine alfredo was to die for! I am not kidding- it was so yummy that it has set an all new precedence for all future fettuccine alfredo dishes because I have never had one to live up to this deliciousness- and believe me, I am borderline a fettucine alfredo connoisseur, it's basically my go-to dish at any resturant! And for those diehards like me- go without the chicken. Last time I ordered it I had it with chicken and it actually took away from the heavenly buttery flavor of the creamy sauce and light freshness of the pasta. The ministrone was so hearty- it almost reminded me of a salad, in a bowl, with hot italian juice over it. It was the best minestrone I have ever had. I loved the chunky veggies. I don't think I will ever be able to eat an ordinary minestrone soup without fantasizing about this soup. So many great places to eat in Alameda but this place has creeped its way into my #1 spot. I can't wait to try the pizza. Our waitress was super sweet and had a darling personality... unfortuately I can't remember her name right now!

Pros: Garlic rolls (and the olive oil/cheese/herbs that it comes with is awesome!), Brussels Sprouts salad was very good, asparagas/prosciatto special pizza, and the Semi-Freddo were outstanding. Cons: The service was average. If the service was a lot better, this place would get 5 stars and would be one of my favorite Italian restaurants. When I mean service I just mean friendliness, people being happy, and just more lively. But it wasn't bad. However, to be fair, just one time I was there, the server was awesome, that was later at night.

My Fiance and I go to the Walnut Creek location all the time, we wait an 1 hour+ sometimes but are always so impressed with the food and most of the time the service. We decided to check out their catering options for a reception for our wedding. Rachael Bowman is the catering manager for Tomatina and she is absolutely AMAZING. She worked with our budget, accommodated well past our expectations and we are ending up with the whole patio at Alameda's location to ourselves with no room fee! I cannot get over how great of a deal we are getting with booking this place! It's beautiful and the food tasting was exactly like Walnut Creek's--delicious! Rachael has made this planning a wedding experience one to remember with a smile. If you ever have the pleasure of working with her you are blessed. Thanks, Rachael!!

Remodeled inside, revamped the menu and added a full bar. Great improvements all around. Love the Moscow Mule! Love the Pescatora pasta! One WARNING: our bill came with the gratuity already added into the total. Be sure to read your bill carefully so you don't double tip. I don't know why they did this, or if it is a practice but I don't like it.

I just had what is perhaps the second most expensive, and unpleasant meal of my foodie life. $40.00 plus dollars for my daughter and I. My daughter didn't even eat her pasta _didn't like it. I ate my sodium drenched, butter lemon salmon, but only because I paid so much for it. I come here periodically but I'm done. One of the last times I came here I had some chicken pizza that made me sick. Bottom line with Tomatino's is that their Pizza and Piandenne are good-pastas are ok. But quite frankly, they're over priced, and their other dishes are hit or miss.

Here is an update from my previous review of Tomatina: Our family had dinner there again last Friday. In my last review, I noted that the server did not bring out any bread for us, and we had to ask for it. I was pleasantly surprised last Friday, when one of the first questions the server asked us was whether we wanted any bread. I had the minestrone soup, Chicken Marsala, and a slice of the flourless chocolate cake, which were all quite good. My wife and I also ordered coffee. The server asked if we wanted cream with our coffee, and we said yes. Imagine our surprise, when instead of cream, the server substituted milk for it, without telling us. Did Tomatina run out of cream that night? Were they trying to cut costs by using milk? Why didn't the server disclose that cream wasn't going to be used? Whatever the answer, my wife and I felt cheated. Also, the service was slow, which surprised me since there weren't many people in the restaurant that night. I would have given Tomatina 4 stars based on the dinner I had last Friday, but because of the cream substitution, Tomatina loses a star, and the 3 star rating I gave them in my previous review stands. I still recommend eating at Tomatina, but am disappointed with the last two dining experiences I had there. If you plan to eat at Tomatina, I recommend proactively asking your server for bread. If you would like cream with your coffee, I recommend telling your server that you want cream, and not milk. If the server brings you milk anyway, ask to speak with the manager.

My sister & I had a great experience when we had lunch at Tomatina! Good lunch prices, good food and nice staff! Fast forward to tonight, I suggested to my husband that we get take out from Tomatina, so we ordered the Ravioli, Fettuccine Alfredo and a small side of Gnocchi! $38?!! The portions better be hefty. They were not in the slightest. We received 3 small round take out bowls. The food was OK, but I wish they really packed more pasta in that sucker for $38?! Am I right or am I rightttt?! I guess the next time I eat at Tomatina, it will be on a weekday for lunch.

This was my first visit to Tomatina. I liked the ambiance, very friendly servers etc. I ordered the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with their home made sauce. It was excellent. However ... they were very stingy with their home made sauce!!! There was so little sauce after mixing up my Fettuccine & chicken it still looked yellowy and tasted dry. I ordered additional sauce $1.50!!! The problem ... because its homemade it took 10 minutes or more to prepare. My food is now cooling, I'm continuing to eat hoping they haven't forgotten me! The sauce is what makes a meal !!!

Tried the Penne Bolognese and the 'Pasta and Sauce' with added chicken. Both were below mediocre, and even though we were expecting something very plain for the 'pasta and sauce', it was far below expectation with a very thing sauce, and low flavor. I didn't finish my bolognese. Service was also pretty subpar, leaving us with two unenjoyable pastas and a poor experience for over $30 after tax/tip. Most likely will not return.

Came here this past weekend and the hostess at the front door was definitely not interested in being there. I don't know if she was having a horrible day, but working in the hospitality industry myself, you have to leave that crap outside of work or it will rub off on everyone. Usually the hostess is the first thing that sets the tone on your dining experience and this girl started our experience with desiring more. The service was fine, the food was okay, but I couldn't get over this hostess's attitude. On our way out, eye contact with this hostess and not a single "thank you" or "goodbye"! Will not be returning here for a while and if I do, I will peak through the front door to see if she is here.

I have to say - This used to be our "go to" place and now it's our "where not to go" place. The last two times (November and December) we ate there the food was just OK and the service was terrible. TERRIBLE. it took us 45 minutes to get our lunch, and that was after eating 20 minutes to order it. One of our reasons we liked Tomatina was their quick turnaround. We have a toddler and asking her to sit for OVER an hour to get her food it just too much to ask. She is a good girl, but even I was getting really upset. But, alas - we gave them a second try because everyone has a bad day. Unfortunately, I have to say the second time was even worse. Just as we were about to walk out (which wouldn't have solved a thing - I would still have had to feed my hungry family) our food came....COLD! I am not sure the next time I will be back...

My girlfriend and I used to come here all the time since we lived right across the street. The bruschetta is probably the best one I've ever had(and we've had some from some "fancier, higher priced" restaurants before)! I've tried a more up-scale Italian dining at a nearby location, and Tomatina beats them hands down. Great selection of food and we love the little bar. Casual date night or quick lunch..definitely hits the spot any time or day of the week.

Celebrating a ten year olds birthday with a small family dinner and this place is the perfect place for a glass of wine, everything the kids like, treating the hubby to classic bruschetta which refrained him from speaking while he enjoyed and satires each and every morsel - who coils ask for anything more?

It's really 2.5 stars I came to give it another try. I ordered the risotto and it was pretty salty, risotto was still slightly hard. My daughter ordered Salmon which tasted like it was battered in salt only. Just writing this review and reliving my dinner makes me want to reach for a cup of water.

You get for what you pay for. My friend and I wanted a pizza so we ordered 1/2 of meat special and 1/2 of the chicken pesto. Both Pizza's were $17.50 on the menu however when we got the bill they charged an extra $3.00 for the order. That's fishy! Our server was nice and forgetful. Had to ask for items a few times as he rushed by. Not a great place for piece and quite as parents bring their brats here and seem to think they have Tomatina day care where they let their kids run up and down in the way of everybody; this cut my visit sort. Back to the pizza: meat special was great the chicken pesto lacked flavor. You will have to drag me back to this location.

I visited Tomatina recently (last time was roughly 6-7 years ago, and I was far from impressed), and the experience was not as bad as I expected it to be. The pizza was delicious - thin crust, and you are able to substitute with whole wheat! It's rather big, so the recommendation (a medium) for 2 people can really feed 3-4. It is reasonably priced as well. However, the service was terrible. We waited for 10-15 minutes before we were able to flag someone down to take our order. I know the waitresses saw us too, because I made eye contact several times. Someone reluctantly took our order ("That is your waiter, but I'll just take your order now") when he saw our grumpy faces. I would suggest hiring more waitstaff, or even customer service training.

Lets me say be prepared to take your time. The service was slow but good. The food was a surprise for my girlfriend and I. She had the salmon entree. The salmon was cooked perfect and the broccoli was as well. The pene pasta that came with the entree was flavorless, but we added some parmesan cheese, salt and pepper and it was all good. I had their margarita special pizza of the month and it was amazing.

So, I was working this whole week in our Service Center which is located in Alameda, Ca. The week prior I was there for work and it was my Birthday, so I stayed overnight to go into the city to go to my absolute most favorite Italian restaurant Firenze By Night on Stockton and Columbus. This week I wanted really good Italian food again. So, I found Tomatina! OMG! This place is Bomb!!! They make their own pasta daily! yES, from scratch! And the whole works sauces, dressings, pasta, and desserts!! I had the fettuccine Creamy Tomato Sauce It was so dang good. I also had a persimmon arugula with cranberry champaign dressing salad. That was soooo good as well! I have to go back next week for work and I'm so going back to Tomatina! If you go with a party bigger than 2 call ahead and make a reservation, because it was so packed! Which is a good thing. It's a family friendly place and awesome service!

Tomatina is your average italian restuarant. There isnt anything remarkable about their food, service, or prices. I ordered the brussel sprouts, and chicken alfredo pasta. It was all very bland and I found myself adding a ridiculous amount of parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes to both dishes hoping to flavor/spice up the meal - unsuccessfully. The restaurant itself is pretty. It looks classy and may be a nice location for a date err whatever, but overall, this places doesn't really speak to me.

I live their bruschetta!! It's my favorite ever! However they stopped melting the cheese so I recommend that you ask them to do so. Also I'm simple when it comes to pasta so I like just getting the pasta and sauce, tomato of course. There pizzas are good too! I like the margarita pizza. If you like Italian then give the place a try.

Came on a Monday night. Got seated right away. Our server Jeff was really nice. The food was good, but not the best. Every Monday night it's half off all desserts & the bread pudding wasn't cooked prefectly, it was hard in the middle & not warm. I loved the vanilla gelato though. Sorta dissapointed but its a quick place to get pasta if I don't feel like cooking. 3 Stars for our nice Waiter Jeff!

Consistently the best place to have non greasy food with the family. I love the salads. Service is friendly and despite being crowded, work really hard to get you seated quickly. I don't often review (or visit, for that matter) chain restaurants, but Tomatina is the exception. My big issue is that they never bring bread/appetizer plates with the bread. We always have to ask.

Like another reviewer, Tomatino is a go to for our family when none of us can agree on dinner! The kids love the pasta and pizza and we always find something tasty for ourselves. We recently had the Bruschetta appetizer, delicious. The "create your own pasta" is wonderful, and something we order often. The cooking is sometimes so-so on other dishes, not always consistent, but that said, you can always find something tasty there if you're going for the basics like pasta or pizza. The staff is really nice and whenever there has been any issue they are very gracious in correcting it. While this is not a gourmet Italian restaurant, it is a good, solid choice if you're looking for something basic and tasty. The fact that both of my kids agree is a plus! When I've had kids and their friends and asked them where they want to go out and eat, Tomatina is always at the top of the list for the kids' choice!

I'm sad to leave a bad review because this used to be one of my favorite spots about 5 years ago, but the food has really declined. Quality/consistency is just not up to par. We probably won't be back anytime soon.

Tomatina is extremely delicious. It's a small chain, but so what. Everything is fresh! Their pizza, pasta and calzones are bangin'! They rotate a monthly seasonal menu that always feels "with the times" So you never get in a pizza rut! It is a great family place and I have experienced some of the most friendly and attentive service here. The people I can see complaining on here about them and I can tell by their reviews and taste are tunnel vision to places like "Quince" and "Acquerello". Yeah, those places are great, but just not comprable to a fancy little "first date" or "family style" place. Tomatina, you're my first go to dinner spot close to home and I love you. Very good job! Thanks for the consistancy, it keeps me coming back. Ciao!

My last review was from August 2009 and it was not pretty! Thank goodness they changed the management! Ordered online and received a call from Tomatina to double check my order, very nice touch. When I got there to pickup my order the young man offered to walk me to my car (big bag plus pizza). That's customer service! Thank you.

Really between 2 and 3 stars. My brother and my son, both ordered pizza. You can't go wrong with pizza. I ordered the flatbread with hummus. It was OK. It would have been better had it been served warm. I also ordered the May Special "Shrimp Salad". The kitchen must have ran out of ingredients because I received a mountain of arugula with a few thin slivers of anise root and THREE shrimp halves. That's right! I counted them! One shrimp sliced in half plus one more half slice.

Good food, decent server but she must have been the only one for the whole restaurant. Four other employees just sat up front and watched her run around.

Wanted to try the remodeled Tomatina on Park St to see if the food was any better than before. It wasn't. Came in on Tues night and the place was packed. W e had to wait about 10 minutes for a table for 2. Sat in a tiny little booth which was fine for the 2 of us. While waiting we had a chance to look over the menu so ordered right away. One minestrone to split, one tortellini and one chicken parmesan. The soup came first. A little watery and the veggies were only OK. I prefer a thicker minestrone. 3 stars. Tortellini was in a cream sauce with peas and some kind of meat. A little salty for my taste and the 5 cheese tortellini while large just tasted a little bland. 2 stars/ Chicken parmesan was the best of the bunch. Cooked well, nice and moist, but the sauce and accompanying penne were just so-so. 3 1/2 stars. Service was OK. Waitress was real busy so didn't come around much.

Everyday I drive by this restaurant, and from outside the food looks very delicious. Finally I decided to dine here. My impression was definitely disapointed. First of all, the Asian server had left us with the menu for 10 minutes. He bought us water later and left us again for another 10 minutes. He finally came to us and took our orders. When we got the food, we noticed that we were the only one not served wiith bread. We did not even bothered to ask for the bread because he was nowhere to be found. Second of all, the food was not as great as I thought. The salmon pasta was tasty, but definitely not the combo pizza and the salad sandwich. I'm not going back again. With that price of food, I could go any pasta restaurant and have more tasty food and better services.

I'm not a fan of chain restaurants, but bf randomly thought we should just eat dinner here before catching a movie at the Alameda Cineplex. It turned out to be a big mistake. First of all, I think we were the only people in there that didn't have a toddler or baby. The place was filled with families, which is fine....but it was so loud and you basically have screaming babies all over the place so it was very difficult to have a conversation. I won't fault Tomatina's for that though bc I generally like babies. The 1 star review is for the food. Both of the pasta dishes that we ordered can only be described in one word - BLAND. Now, I am a person that cooks a lot of low sodium recipes so if it's bland to me, it's pretty bad for all you sodium loving people. Bf had to douse his pasta with salt and parmesan to no avail but it was still very bland and flavorless. I would have preferred my Trader Joe's $2.49 marinara sauce compared to Tomatina's any day.

Tomatina is Great. I don't know how they have bad reviews. I eat here a couple times a month and enjoy myself every time. I always get friendly waitresses and enjoy what I get. I have tried several dishes but my favorite is the Piadine and Garlic Rolls. The fresh made mozzarella is great. My husband and I are happy every time we order. I have gotten orders to go a few times and they always make sure the order is accurate before I leave. My very picky son always enjoys the pasta and pizza.

Grand Central Station for families with young kids eating an early dinner. Service is decent and it's very kid friendly. Pizza is good (thin crust). Pasta's are also good. I don't think it's a destination restaurant but a decent one if you decide to eat out on a weeknight. It's very standard fare and one of the good things about it is everyone can find something they want to eat. It can get pretty expensive quickly if you don't share a pizza. We usually walk out with about $70 for dinner for 1 appetizer to share, 3 adult entrees and 1 kid entree, 1 glass of wine, and 3 non-alcoholic drinks.

Tomatina ME!! Imagine little pockets (4 or 8) of heavenly goodness falling from the sky into a bowl, drizzled with olive oil, spices, garlic, and Parmesan cheese. The infamous "Garlic Rolls" are worth the glitz and glam. Shhh...I am currently cheating on the Garlic Rolls with the Piadine! This fabulous, yet simple item is delectable. Not quite sure how to describe this almost-tortilla like plate with a salad on top, but you can fold it and eat it like an XXXL taco or eat it open faced. Its somewhat a conundrum, yet delicious. I've indulged in the Steak and the Cesar, and have yet to stop talking about both (my sister can attest to this). A sweet surprise - the steak is slightly sweet, which compliments the romaine lettuce, onions, and ranch dressing. Very simple, yet robust in flavor and crazy big in portion. Nibbling on my sis' Chx Parm, much to her dismay, it was on par with everything else I've tried. Not too much bread or overly drenched in marinara, unlike most places that offer this traditional dish. Light breading, juicy chicken, and perfectly topped with marinara sauce, I now understand her unwillingness to share ;) If gnocchi is your thing, then wa-la, you get a heaping side of those as well. Ohhh - The Garden pizza is life changing! The broccoli, yes, broccoli on pizza, is perfectly season and cooked. Thin pizza crust is not really my thing, but the flavor of this pizza is so yums that I forgot about my pickyness. So, all this raving and its still not a 5 star. It was a Sunday evening and that was exactly how our Server served :/ He was tired and working hard, so many things slipped through the cracks. I can't hate on this, but it definitely was star-changing! I will continue to be your walking advertisement and proudly promote your tasty Tomitina-ness to all that will listen ;)

Tomatina. Figure your stuff out. Thought it would be a nice Sunday early evening meal for my family. We arrived shortly after 5 p.m. to a half filled restaurant. I originally asked for a booth but since we needed a high chair we were given a table. Were seated and proceeded to wait about 6 mins without anyone welcoming us or even providing water. I kept seeing employees standing around stocking utensils so I finally asked for our server. Strike #1. You shouldn't have to ask for your server to come over for drink requests. She finally came by and took our order, no specials or promoting anything. The kid's menu had a coloring section and we asked if there were any crayons. She would ask but never returned. As we were waiting we overhear the server behind us offering the table various specials and trying to "sell" the garlic rolls which I forgot about and may have order. So I pull the menu next to me and there's Sunday special for $12.50 which offers soup, salad, rolls, unlimited drinks and an entree. I just ordered a calzone and salad for $11.50. Strike #2. I had to finally flag down our server and asked her if there's a chance I could change my order since she didn't tell us about the specials and we had to overhear it from another table. She couldn't and then proceeded to explain that she was super busy and this was a new menu and she can't remember anything. Lovely. I think from that point she knew we were upset so basically never stopped by again during service. I had to flag down a hostess for a water refill, boxes and check. Turns out that the person who did this all was the manager and I explained the whole frustration. She apologized and took off the kid's entree. She explained that Tomatina relaunched one week ago and all the employees are still getting adjusted and everything. She apologized that they "sucked". It's not so much you sucked, get your act together with correct seating arrangements so your servers aren't slammed with tables. We were basically the last table of her section and she was busy. Also have your people who clean tables do water and bread service. Finally maybe have your hostesses jump in to help and not stand around when things are busy. Funny thing is the food was very tasty and I would definitely go back. I would NOT suggest going back until they figure out how to manage crowds. Looks like someone else review earlier today with a similar situation. My wife also overheard a server ask the manager to comp a pizza.

It was fine, but nothing you couldn't make at home. I was completely unimpressed with the bolognese which just tasted like any other boring meat sauce.

Tomatina's is a chain restaurant that serves average Italian food. If you are just looking for a quick, relatively inexpensive, good for groups and kids type of meal, then it is the place to be. Choose amongst favorites such as spaghetti, pizza (with over 20 different toppings), lasagna, chicken pasta, steak, salmon, salads, and piadines. In my opinion, the piadines are the real reason to go to Tomatina's. It's like having a healthy pizza salad - soft pizza bread wraps around a healthy mixture of greens, tomatoes, and cheese. You get the best of both worlds. I also highly recommend the lasagna - oftentimes, lasagna can be hard to eat on its own, but the tomato sauce that this lasagna comes in is a perfect complement and makes every bite delicious until the very end. Pros - Good for groups, inexpensive, italian, good dessert/beverages Cons - kids, food is hit or miss, sometimes there is a long wait, server's often forget garlic rolls.

The service is not great, but the food is definitely worth it. The pizza is awesome and the flat-bread sandwich type things are amazing. The pesto and caprese piadine is my favorite and the sundried tomatoes on it are really good! Prices aren't too bad either. This is definitely a place I'd take family from out of town!

Stopped in for an early dinner and were seated right away. Service was good and the food was even better. The food was fresh, fast and delicious. We ordered the garlic rolls to start, which came with a side dish of marinara for dipping. Yum! I ordered the Fusilli Gorgonzola for my main course and was expecting something heavier, but it was surprisingly light but still just as satisfying. I liked the combo of the Gorgonzola cream and chunky marinara sauce with toasted pine nuts. Very delicious. We will definitely be returning to this Alameda location!

Went here the other day with coworkers for lunch & with most we are only given one hour for that. This place was selected, what a mistake that was. Their remodel was nicely done however the menu is too extensive. We walked in at the end of a typical lunch rush to find the place with about a dozen tables occupied, were sat down upon walking in however it took approx 20-minutes for our waters to arrive & longer for our beverages too as well. Our waiter was pleasant however it took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive and when it did it was only average. By the time all was said in done we had been away for close to two hours and our office is relatively close. Not good. There was a reason we/I hadn't been in here in years and its because their service is hideously slow with only soso food. Won't be going back to this one or any other for that matter.

Well, hate to say this, but it seems to be true: ALL good things eventually come to an end. This week we had a "less than acceptable" experience with Tomatina's here in Alameda, bad enough that we'll think twice now about coming back. And sadly, it had nothing to do with their food, it was their customer service, or LACK of...!!! We decided to take advantage of their April promo 25% off on-line ordering, but when we got home with the order, they had left out an item. We called them on their direct line, and the phone rang, and rang, and rang, for well over 20 minutes...even tried calling with 2 different cells and our home land line, at the same time and NOTHING...!!! All we wanted to know was if we were correct to assume they FORGOT this one item...so now, after 3 days, and leaving 3 different comments on their corporate web-site, we have still yet to hear from them. It would be nice to just know, if they are aware of, or even care, about this mistake....knowing the 25% more than made up for the missing item, still didn't make this right....it's as if..."WHAT discount"....??? So, the fact we don't dine out much as it is, and with so many other options within Alameda to choose from, we're going to pass on Tomatina's for awhile....IF this was just an isolated event, well, I guess we'll never know, will we.....so everyone, you've been warned....order on-line AT YOUR OWN RISK, especially now since the discount promo is over....!!!

I have been here for lunch at least 10 times now and decided to finally write a review, yes I know it is long overdue. Better late than never, right? Time: Sunday afternoon lunch at 1PM-3PM. Location: Off the busy Park St, found street parking a few blocks away. Place: Surprised it was dead for it being a weekend around lunch time when we first arrived but by the end it was busy. Lots of seating indoors and small outdoor seating on their patio in the back. I love sitting on the patio when the weather permits, to bad it was gloomy today so we sat inside. We were meeting friends and they were running late but they still seated us. Menu: Typical Italian options, apps, salads, pizzas, pasta and main dishes. I always get the piadine which is a flat crispy pizza crust with a salad onto that you fold like a taco to eat. Not only is it somewhat healthy but fun to eat. I ordered the steak one which has lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, garlic and ranch dressing but I substituted for balsamic. The hub and one of our friends ordered the regular steak piadine and the other person ordered the chicken piadine. Food: Oh I almost forgot while we were waiting for our friends the hub and I had the Italian rolls which were four small bread rolls in a bowl of olive oil and seasoning which marinara and ranch sauces on the side. It was nothing exciting I wouldn't order again. Our entrees took about 20 minutes. My piadine was good the same as I remember from past visits. My friend that got the chicken said it was bland she added sauce and cheese to make it edible. We ordered a bread pudding to share for dessert. That took forever to get delivered maybe another 20 minutes. But it sure hit the spot, they put bananas on it instead of raisins like other restaurants. Service: The waiters were nice and service was just okay. They checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed in the beginning. Towards the end our main waiter stopped coming by to fill the waters and didn't ask if we wanted dessert before dropping off the check. Price: Most entrees range from $10-$15, apps are around $6. and desserts are also around $6. Our total for one app, four entrees, dessert and tip was around $65.

First of all, I spent my formative years in a part of Northern New Jersey where every town had a rock solid, reliable, family run Italian restaurant where you could eat very well well for a modest price. A group of us went in on a Saturday night. After a reasonable wait for a table on such an evening, we were hustled through to the back patio. Service was perfunctory at best. We were never even offered bread. My tortellini carbonara was tepid and mostly sauce. A few more tortellini would have been nice for a $14 bowl of pasta. Honestly, if you're going to eat chain Italian, Pasta Pomodoro's food is better.

Wow, quality has dropped big time since the last time I came here. The portions for EVERYTHING we ordered came out smaller (appetizer, pizza, and entrees) and the salmon and chicken piadines both came out COLD. Usually my favorite thing about the piadines is that the bread is fluffy and warm. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I really hope it wasn't due to the recent Groupon deal ($15 for $30 worth of food). Another thing is that the service here has been consistently underwhelming. Not sure if it's because it's primarily high schoolers who are manning the tables or what, but they are usually not attentive. Case in point: we didn't even get a chance to complain about the piadines since we were in a time crunch and had to eat and leave and the servers were just nowhere to be found despite the restaurant not even being busy. I'm severely disappointed and hope Tomatina gets their act together. At least their strawberry lemonade is still good.

I find the food to be pretty decent for the price, but this review is based more on customer service. I called to place and order and was put on hold for over 10 minutes before I hung up and found the online order form. I ordered online and hoped to pick up my order. When i arrived, they seemed busy and my order was not ready on time as promised. Finally, my order was ready and I was told a higher total than I already paid online. I was told to wait for a manager who came by and didn't even acknowledge me, instead messed with the computer, and then told her associate it was fine. I didn't appreciate the lack of apology for the poor service. I'd rather go down the street to any of the other options on park street.

Wow. Lightening fast water refills and perfect order fulfillment. My son had the sausage fennel and pepperoni pizza with a perfectly chewy and crispy crust. I had the pizza margarhita. I've tried the gluten free pizza version on a previous visit and found the crust mealy and soggy. Their traditional pizza is excellent. I really like the sautéed spinach with lemon and garlic too. Prices are good; about $30 for a very filling meal for two. Quaint neighborhood feel; I would definitely come back.

Don't order pasta here - I don't usually see people satisfied with these orders. And I certainly can vouch for the disappointment that will arrive when you order their spaghetti with meatballs - mushy is the best description that can be given to the meatballs. However, their custom made pizzas are excellent - I would recommend you choose prosciutto (Italian ham) as one of your toppings. Their garlic rolls are their best appetizer if you are hungry and want something more than an entree or main course for dinner. Also, their Italian sodas are pretty good. As with any restaurant on Park Street, there is not a whole lot of parking in front of the restaurant, so you may have to drive around for a little bit if it's a busy night.

Two words.... Garlic Bread!!! Sucks that they are not complimentary because they are soooo yummeh! Everything we ordered came out really good. I wanted something different so went with their Piadines. It felt very healthy despite the size. It came in a large fluffy sort of a pita like bread. At first, it comes looking like a pizza. Then I was told you have to fold it in half like a taco and eat it that way. That was definitely a treat. I went with "The Hero" piadines. We also ordered their pizza and that was really good. So overall I have no complaints. The server was prompt and the host came around and greeted our table and surrounding tables. Very Italian like! =) My only reason for the 4 stars is this place didn't give me the WOW experience. Nothing really stood out as being great. If the garlic bread which blew my mind was complimentary, that would have earned them that extra start.

Despite the reports from recent naysayers here on Yelp, I want to let you all know that this is a nice little spot for some good Italian food! Our dinner the other night was great. I had a delicious lasagna - delicate lasagna noodles stacked up with lots of good meat sauce, and a splash of smoky tomato sauce around it all that was just right. My husband had an impressive piadine sandwich with lots of great flavor on excellent flat bread; enough to take home, too. Nice atmosphere, good location. We'll go again soon.

Great food, great decor (especially since redecorated), always love the piadines and the choices for kids are always a big hit. Watch your server, however: last time I clearly ordered the "Spaghetti and Meatball" (off the kids menu, for an 8-year-old who had a kids menu in front of him) and was given, and charged, for "Mama's Spaghetti and Meatballs" to the tune of $6 extra and a ton of unwanted leftovers. The server said, "How was I supposed to know?" when I pointed out the discrepancy on the bill, and refused to change it. Bad form! Reduced tip!

Had a good time here. Ordered the Appiata pizza and red wine (italian wine forgot the name but the waitress recommend it and it was great!). Garlic rolls were ok. Taste like any other garlic rolls. Gave 4 stars because of the wine. :)

Love the garlic rolls, piadines, insalata mixta, lasagna. Took a chance on a dessert again the other night and was disappointed, again. Our waitress didn't even offer to take it off our bill when we told her it was bland. (Tasteless pumpkin cheesecake? How did they manage that?) I hope Tomatina has good desserts some day. Until then I'll avoid them.

Tomatina`(it's a chain) never seems busy. they have the usual italian fare as well as some lunch specials. after eating here, i know why. Sampling: -pizzeta con portabello (lunch special 12.50) roasted portabello mushrooms, fontina cheese, shaved fennel, pancetta, thin crusted personal pizza had some zest but no lasting punch. pizza lack pizzazz, got boring. -raspberry iced tea (2.50) sweet tasting, had multiple refills, didn't notice tea taste. leftovers -would have loved to give them 3 stars BUT i had no desire to finish the pizza, this speaks volumes . -good service, many checkins, -food (pizza) not overwhelming -menu pricey, pizzas from 11.99-18.00

  • Dor H.

I'm really surprised how low this place is rated. I'm kind of tired so I'll make a quick list. -Service is hit or miss -Gets really busy -Good place for kids/groups/raising money for school -When there ARE kids, really annoying and noisy -Looks pretty nice inside -I'm no expert on Italian food, but it's good enough, not like you're going to die eating it -Bread/Piadine's are their thing so try that or their pizza. -Drinks are kind of pricy $2.75 It's actually fairly decent, but my family and I tend to come back to this place since it's good. So it's worth a try.

We had an unfortunate incident happen to us while dining. However, the customer service level from the on-duty manager, Kaitlyn, was excellent. She took care of the problem and our dinner for us. I would return for dinner as it is convenient for walking to dinner. No parking is an issue as they have closed access to the rear parking lot for all Tomatina diners.

The service here has been consistently slow since it's opening in Alameda, (and we come here an average of once every 2 months) which is particularly difficult when you choose this place specifically for its family atmosphere and kid-friendly menu selection. However, when my family and I ate here on Monday, Sept 2, at 6:00PM I was shocked at how bad the service was: It took more than 10 minutes for our waiter to take our order or offer us water. He never offered any refills on any of our beverages. My meal was served more than 10 minutes after everyone else's and it was the wrong item. My Calzone was supposed to have pesto, spinach and garlic and the one that was served to me had mushrooms and peppers, neither of which I like. When we were unable to find our waiter, my husband went to find a manager or other server to try and assist us. He told this employee/manager (?) that we could not find our very tall waiter and that my order was wrong and his response seemed to imply that it was somehow our own fault. Eventually the waiter came back to find that everyone had finished their meal while I was waiting for my original order. He came back again to say they kitchen was working on making me the correct one but, by then, my family was ready to pay and leave so we asked the waiter for it "to go." Five minutes later, when my mother got the bill she saw that we still had been charged for the calzone. I am very disappointed and am reluctant to come back with this kind of service. To add insult to injury, I had written Tomatina THREE times to tell them about this incident and all I've gotten was an auto-reply "Thank you for sharing your experience, thoughts or ideas. We learn from every guest we serve and are always looking for ways to improve." This is really disappointing, as I like to frequent local businesses but their lack of concern has pushed us to look for another place that cares about their customers.

Yes, this review is over due. This is my family's go-to spot for our random or not so random dinners. My bro used to work here so he still knows who's who and it's like Cheers but just with pasta =) Food is always great and reasonably prices. Service: friendly and fast. I won't go into details of what we order but we usually get the garlic rolls. It won't be our family dinner without it.

I came here only because my sister had a buy one entree get the other free deal. If I didn't have that coupon, I don't think I would have come here for the following reasons: 1) it's pricey for Italian food in a dinky town like Alameda 2) the food wasn't all that great (nothing to write home about) 3) parking sucks in this area of Park St. 4) there are better Italian choices in San Francisco (Alameda isn't known for Italian food) 5) all the menu items are "standard"/"typical" Italian fare... nothing really special or unique We ordered some pastas, which were all overcooked--not al dente. Come on, pasta is supposed to be "al dente" right? We ordered the bruschetta, which was very plain and not very seasoned, so I can safely say that wasn't their house specialty. Perhaps I ordered the wrong things, but I doubt I'm going to come back here again... well, maybe I'll consider it if I get a coupon again, but otherwise, nope.

We came here last Friday and enjoyed our first visit here. I had the Chicken Parmesan which was a little over cooked, but still tasty. My daughter didn't like their tomato soup, too much basil oil drizzle. She liked the pasta and ate half my plate, so I ordered another. The service was excellent. The food could be improved, but we did enjoy our meal and will go back again.

I have been here a few times and the food is so-so. I ordered a piadine (wrap) and a salad one time. The waitress should have told me the piadine was loaded w/ salad. Another time I had the fettucine $9.95 and a salad $5.75 (small). Pretty mediocre for the prices. This is not a $20/head kind of joint w/o alcohol. Ther servers are nice as are the remainder of the staff.

Have been going here ever since they opened. I'm not sure if they are under new management but the service and welcoming environment seems lacking lately. Food is still good, but Park street has so many great restaurants that I find myself looking elsewhere now.

These warm little mounds, sitting in a shallow pool of garlic and olive oil... garlic rolls (mmmmmmmmmm) you can never go wrong with an order of these. Ordered a pizza... half cheese; the other half with chicken and basil. Pizza was good, but it was rolled out into a rectangle and the slices were cut into squares. I prefer traditional pies with wedge slices, but I guess this would be a good way to have the pizza for people who don't like crust. I was told the pizza is rolled out into a rectangle to show that the dough is made fresh and not something out of a box. That's something to think about ;) Also had the Shrimp Angel hair pasta. It was good, but nothing special. Friends ordered the Bolognese and seemed to enjoy that very much. I've tried the location in Walnut Creek as well, they seem to be pretty consistent in the way they prep their foods in both places. Customer service and ambiance are great here as well. Great place to take your family for dinner.

Have had some inconsistencies in food and service but it is outweighed by the good experiences I have had.love the piadines, garlic rolls, torn pasta, mixta salad and the amazing Brussel sprout salad! It is hard to get drink refills and any extras but the wait staff is nice just inattentive. They are often standing around all talking at the front.

This place wasn't that great or maybe my standards are a little too high. I was hoping for a better pizza after reading all the great reviews. Service: It's a hit and miss with the service. The first time I came here they were very friendly and quick with the customer service. The second time I came they tried to avoid all eye contact and they kind of ignore me until I was basically in their face. Food: The pizza was kind of small for what they charge. Maybe I'm soo used to the Italian places in San Francisco that I'm rating too harshly, but their pizza was not that flavorful. I could only taste the cheese. Their kind of stingy with the toppings. But their pizza was alot better than pizza hut or dominos (any chain pizza places) Their pasta wasn't unique at all. I felt that i could of prepare their pastas at home with store brought noodles and sauce. And it would of cost alot less than what they charged. Their salads were decent. Nothing much to add about here. Overall: I wouldn't go back here again, but I feel like I have a high standard for Italian. But for those who haven't been in SF north beach, I think this would be a good place for you guys.

I love Alameda for all the local flavor and small business it has to offer. However I'm not sure I'd make another special trip here for this pizza. The food is mediocre at best, and service from the waitstaff is decent, but the host is certainly a piece of work. The dough is fine, nice in the Neapolitan style: thin, crust which is at the same time chewy and crispy. However the presentation of the simple personal size pepperoni and sun-dried tomato I ordered was not so great. The cheese seemed to have cooled and congealed back into sort of shingle where one takes a bite, and the entire layer of cheese comes off all at once. They have a "signature" appetizer which is some sort of dough pieces swimming in garlic oil. Nice, but one must order sauce on the side. This wasn't my first outing here, but after this one I feel compelled to Yelp about it. First, the sauce issue. Our waiter balked when after the appetizer came,we asked for sauce. He said we should have asked when we ordered. Yes, for a side of marinara sauce. This prompted a conflab with the host, who I'm pretty sure was the owner. We did get our side of marinara, but they seemed to be protecting it as if we were spies from a competitor and were going to analyze it and steal his trade secret or something. Now back to the host. I've been here on two separate occasions, and observed this man behave in a manner unbecoming to that of a host (and employer.) Without going into too much detail, let's just say The word "smarmy" about sums it up. Generally he's just too self-important to lift a finger and even bring a menu to the tables he seats.

Won't be back to this place~~~~~ Service was ok, but the food is lacking something..............TASTE! I had the spaghetti and meatballs, and it lacked any taste at all. The sauce was terrible, and was definitely canned sauce. The pasta texture was off, because they were under cooked, and the meatballs lacked any form of seasoning. The atmosphere was average at best. It just didn't have anything special about the place at all. I would recommend elsewhere for Italian food, because this is not it.

Tomatina is delicious!! They have an awesome lunch menu where you can get soup and a salad for not too expensive. Plus their desserts are to die for! And get this, they support local non-profits like our local animal shelter! They have these wonderful nights where a percentage of the profits goes straight to the non-profits. My fiancée and I attended the last one for the local animal shelter and it was awesome to know we were getting tasty food and helping homeless pets! Mad props to a successful local business for helping local non-profits!

The garlic bread thingys are so tasty and yet I feel so bad eating them. And the wrap things are good. There's a yummy strawberry lemonade drink but its kind of expensive. Meh good place if you're looking for cheaper, quicker, italian food in Alameda.

I wish I could choose my stars for the food and stars for the service. I'm rating this a 2 star because of the service. If it were strictly on the food, I would give it a 3. I've been here several times and each time, I try something different and have enjoyed the food. For lunch I always choose one of their salads. Today I had their warm beet salad. It was small compared to other salads I've had there but it was good. We also had their margherita pizza which I enjoyed. My cousin had their chopped salad - i think she always has that there. I don't know of too many places where you get your pizza before salad. In fact, I don't know of any restaurant that would serve any thing besides dinner rolls, soup, appetizers or drinks before salads. The service was very slow and it was not that busy and there seem to be at least 3 wait staff members. Our waitress also serviced two or more groups before we even got our beverages after ordering them. We waited at least 30 minutes to get our salads and remember, the pizza came first. I've had similar bad service experiences at this location each time I've gone. I'm not sure why I go back. Maybe because the people I visit in Alameda don't know of other places to go with nice salads and I always seem to crave a nice salad when it's a beautiful day outside like today.

One thing that I remember from my first visit - food was very tomato-y. With a group of four, we dined here for lunch. I ordered the lunch special - which was a tomato-base soup with two slices of margherita pizza. The soup was decent at first but I unwillingly had to finish the rest when I started to get sick of the tomato taste. The pizza, on the other hand, was remarkably tasty. I'm craving at the thought of it now. I might give it another shot next time but I'm certainly going to avoid that soup.

Went in last week and stood at the host counter for 5 minutes - only person in line, literally within inches of the 2 guys standing there shuffling menus. Not one look at me, nothing. Stunning that they hire blind? people to be hosts. We walked out. They need to hire more professional staff.

A-Ok puts it perfectly. Tomatina is a "family" restaurant as advised and they are proud of it from the showing of child Crayon doodles taped up on the walls. And being family style, you should already except screaming kids, crying babies and running toddlers. As for the food, it was good- not wonderful or awful but I felt that it was worth the price ( all meals are pretty much under 12$). An overall good place to stop by if you just don't feel like getting out the sauce pan your self.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
