I love this place. The Mediterranean food is good, but my favorite thing about this place is the cocktails. The bartender uses fresh real juice! Also Courtney the bartender is very friendly and energetic! She knows how to make many kinds of drinks that are all very yummy. The ambiance is also very nice and the staff is very attentive. I would highly recommend this place and one of the better spots to go eat in Alameda. Great food, awesome drinks, and friendly staff. Who could ask for more?

Meh. The food is OK. We ordered the specials, and they weren't very special. My filet was cooked to perfection; however, the cut was not really up to par. My wife's sol and risotto was decent, but nothing exciting. I was very impressed by the service, however. Old school professional waiters that are very skilled at what they do. People do really like this place. I could tell some of the other diners had been coming here for a long time. The food may just a little too old school for me.

Fantastic Mediterranean faire! The Greek salad has the most delicious dressing, then the Greek sampler is a great way to taste some foreign flavors. They have wonder daily specials and the soups are made in house and fresh daily. Don't miss the rack of lamb!!!!

I loved the fried shrimp and the appetizer sampler. The staff here is wonderful, they are a family style restaurant and they have the best service!!!

Love this place. Service was 5 stars- totally flawless. The calamari appetizer was SO good, as was the dessert. Both entrees had tiny little flaws, just enough to keep it from earning 5 stars. Potatoes w/my husband's steak were kind of like mediocre homefries, and the port wine sauce on my steak was overly sweet. Other than that- the meal was perfect. We very much enjoyed ourselves and will be going back.

I never would have chosen this place to eat, but my boyfriend took me here on a date. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It looks much better in the inside and the food was pretty decent--I would go back.

I have been to this fine restaurant about 20 times. Not once have I been disappointed. The wait staff is attentive and subtle but does not hover over your table. The food is always tasty and what you would want and expect. There are a couple desserts that are particularly wonderful. You won't go wrong here--you will get good service and delicious food.

Our waiter kept leaning over my boyfriend which I felt was rude. I ordered the caesar salad. The dressing tasted like it was made from miracle whip.

So the old 5 star review strikes again! And, what's more, I appear to be the first to review this place. Don't be alarmed! Something tells me the Gold Coast clientele isnt hanging out on Yelp, and unless youre prone to sporting a members only jacket and sansabelt pants, you've probably never heard of the Gold Coast Grill. Well, kids, I am here to enlighten! This little gem is a "Meditteranean" grill, tucked between the Toyota dealer and sumpin else on the other side. Its an inconspicuous location to say the least. But step inside and you are welcomed by a handsome, fit, and petite'ish (no offense) gentleman. Greek? I dunno, but a lovely little accent and an accommodating - but stern - demeanor. We asked if there was room for 2, to which he responded no, but there should be in about 30 minutes. Many folks at the bar, and a few coming and going told me that I ought to insist he put me on a list, but when I quietly asked, he said no it wasnt necessary... to make ourselves comfortable and he'd get us when our table was ready. Picture me dubious, but whatever. Well we sat at a table in the bar area - sweetie with his lemon drop and I with my Shirley Temple - and what a riot! The lovely wooden bar was lined with loud, laughing ladies and gentlemen, all with deep tans and white hair. The loudest? The - again handsome - older bartender. Dapper in a yellow printed vest and tie, cajoled and quipped with the patrons, also in a charming and very heavy accent. Our "server"... didnt get his name, was so friendly and attentive. And, sure enough, within 30 minutes, the host came to us with menus, picked up MY drink, and escorted us to our table. We sat, and while we waited a mili-second for the first visit from our aforementioned server, we noticed the table next to us being re-set. A tablecloth pulled up by one staff member, whisked away, and as she retreated, another member of the staff jumped in with another tablecloth and the settings. Very efficient. Our server reappeared - the same one from the bar - and gave us EXCELLENT service throughout the meal... making reccommendations and helping us to decide on items with unrecognizable names. I went with the soup first - the unrecognizable name made me ask, and to be honest when it was described to me (chicken lemon and rice soup), i half gagged. But when I asked my server, he said its very good, very light... and something about the sincerity with which he spoke made me think "why not?". Soup arrives looking creamy, VERY yellow, and something like lemon pudding. "Not good." says the pregnant woman in my head. I tried a tiny spoonful! WHAT!? Odd at first taste, but undeniably delicious and despite what seemed to be a creamy base, the soup was - as he had described - light! And SO yummy. Next, a salad. The same old mixed green salad with candied pecans, blue cheese, and some currants. Again, though, perfection. Why? There was an ample supply of each of the little add-ons, making it impossible to wish you had just one more bite of blue cheese, or one more pecan. The nice part, eating what you wanted and leaving the rest on the plate... which I did. Sweetie ate every last pecan, currant and practically every crumble. The currants werent those dry, weird currants that you find so often. They were plump and sweet. We both ate the New York Steak with Veggies and Potatoes. The meat was delicious and tender, in a tasty sauce that paired well with the veggies and a yummy seasoned potato wedge baked (or fried) to perfection. And dessert? A very lovely custardy delight (again, a greek name i couldnt begin to pronounce) with fresh, sweet strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. All in all - as you can tell by my rambling review - a VERY nice experience. The "host" - and what we deem to be the owner of the place - watched every move like a hawk, stepping to the bar infrequently for a sip of his scotch. The staff was a class act. Friendly, attentive, and efficient. The clientele amusing, as bellows of laughter could be heard coming from every direction. The ambience warm, classic, and kicked up a notch for Alameda! I will DEFINITELY go here again and I'd reccommend you try it! :) Love, Sara

Yes, I admit that the place looks like some junky dive from the outside-but I think that's the reason it's all the more pleasant a surprise once you go in. It's so cool inside, all Frank Sinatra and....I don't know, whoever else was popular then. Greek, not Italian, but the food! YUM! I had a lamb gyro and the lamb melted in my mouth! My companion had the veal parm and I don't know how they did it with the sauce and it was still a little crunchy but the veal was fork tender....It boggles. The bar looked like it had some serious potential but alas I was at a business lunch and could not partake with my usual gusto :( I'll be back though-definitely worth another try.

Well thanks Yelpers! After living in Alameda for a total of 6 years I finally decided to check this place out. I'll admit that the exterior and location had always kept me from exploring the joint any further but based solely on the great reviews here I decided to take the next step. When we walked in at about 5:20 or so I swear I heard the classic needle-scratching-off-of-the-record as the crowd at the bar whipped their heads around to see who was coming in. True, everyone seemed to be 50+ but after giving my date & I the once over and seeing that we were dressed for the occasion (swank & sexy) they went right back to their chatter. The rest is just as the other reviews state. Prompt, friendly service, good selection of dishes on the menu, very tasty meals (Steak for me and Ravioli for her) and an overall pleasant experience. I noticed as the food arrived that I was really beginning to pay too much attention to all of the details and how I would write the review that I was forgetting to mind my date. I put the mental 'record' button on pause and went about enjoying a nice dinner at a place that I will be back to visit again & again. A big thanks to Jimmy, our server!

My parents love this place so we came here last night for my step-father's birthday dinner. My friend and I arrived early so we had a seat at a table in the bar area and had some water while we waited. When my family and friends arrived we headed to the back room and sat at a long table for about 8. The service was excellent--every two seconds someone was asking me if I wanted another drink, more bread, more water, or to get rid of any of the plates in front of me. My step-father promptly ordered 2 calamari appetizers and they were delicious. The breading was light and not at all oily, and the sauces that came with the dish were tasty--cocktail and an aioli of some kind. For dinner I ordered the Alaskan Halibut with potato gnocchi and salsa. I wasn't really sure how I'd react to the salsa but it was delicious with the fish. The gnocchi were served in a lovely lemon sauce and were tender and delicious, though I couldn't finish them all. The meal came with a house salad which I upgraded to the Mixed Greens Salad that came with candied walnuts, bleu cheese and currants (I think). I was really disappointed by the salad. It fell flat--the fruit was completely tasteless and added nothing to the mix, the dressing was a little too light, the greens seemed a little wilted (I couldn't tell if they were, but they seemed it) the bleu cheese was crazy overbearing and wound up sitting in a neat pile on the edge of the plate, and the walnuts were dry and not at all 'candied' tasting. That made me sad because I do love a good salad with fruit, walnuts, and some kind of cheese... Everyone at the table ordered a different dish it seemed like, and all of them looked good. My friend had the salmon and finished the entire plate of food, which is a feat for him (lightweight). I tasted the salmon but I really like a well-done salmon, the kind that sticks in your teeth, and it was a little soft for my tastes, but I know I'm the weird one here. The salmon came with some yellow rice and a mix of veggies; the rice was a little bland, the veggies disappeared before I could pick at them. For desert my family had brought their own birthdy cake (Safeway, baby) which wasn't very good (three stars, family) but the staff at the Gold Coast brought it out with candles so we could sing, then took it back, chopped it up and served it. We had coffee--mine was decaf and tasty, my friend's was regular and I think the term he used was "awesome". All in all the food itself was good but didn't blow me away, but the service was excellent and the overall experience definitely merits a four star rating. Be prepared, though--my halibut was a $23 dish, and I don't think it was the priciest thing on the menu.

I am so glad I stumbled upon the Gold Coast Grill. I have yet to have an item on the menu I disliked. I generally get the mixed green salad & soup of the day. The dressing on the mixed green is great! It is however a bit on the pricey side, even for lunch.

Had a very tasty lunch here of homey Greek food. Good mezedes although the taramasalata was low on actual tarama. A very good special that I can't remember the name of which was essentially moussaka stuffed in half an eggplant. Older crowd, nice, classic interior.

We have lived in Alameda for 25 years and go to Gold Coast often. What can I say? It is Greek inspired, and the Greek appetizer plate is wonderful: dolmas, tsatziki, hummus, olives, etc. We always say it is a meal in itself, but the go on to order a full meal. Without going into too much detail, the meat (lamb, beef), fish (always fresh), chicken are well-prepared and accompanied by fresh vegetables, rice or potatoes. Portions are generous but not humongous. Nice wine list. A bar in the front room, well-attended, but we don't hang out there. Service is attentive. We don't usually have dessert so can't comment. If you want a quiet place where you can actually hear each other talk, good food and service at a reasonable price, the Gold Coast has it.

I heard good things about this restaurant and decided to check it out. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to eat their food. I stood with my group inside the entry way waiting to be acknowledged by an employee, but that never happened. The bartender looked at us and said nothing. Several of the waiters looked our direction but never greeted us or said anything at all. We gave it a few minutes but ultimately we decided to leave. I certainly do not want to spend my hard earned money at a restaurant where I felt unappreciated. I will probably not return. There are plenty of other good restaurants in town.

Dinner party for us 30 somethings with a birthday together, BRAVO! Excellent service, delicious meal with a GREAT recommendation on the wine. Affordable, but best of all, the down to earth friendliness of the staff. I you go and have to wait, it's because the owners spend a few minutes to speak with his customers.

When I glanced in the window on our way in, I thought, this place is gonna be too expensive, but it wasn't! Although totally boring looking on the outside, you could drive right past it a hundred times and never think anything as nice as it is was inside. We had our rehearsal dinner here. Party of about 35 people. They have a private room that was perfect size. And on Friday nights, live piano. Anyway, we just walked in late one weekday evening unannounced and got to meet with Stelios (one of the owners). We sat with him for a good half hour or so and had a great conversation so we gave him a deposit before we left and felt really good about our decision. The one irritating part of our whole experience was that when we left, I asked him to email me an invoice, which he did, and it included a cost for 4 small children (under 5yrs) which he had told us he wouldn't charge us for them. When my partner called to question it, he acted totally surprised and said they always charge for children and told us he never said such a thing. So I was mad, but shit, he got my deposit already, let's just make the best of it. Hmph. Coordinating dinner was easy, we called a few days prior to tell him how many chicken, fish, steak dishes, etc.. and that was it. Then we showed up and dinner was served. Stelios was also our server. We had an extra guest and he seemed a bit irritated by that unplanned fact, but how hard is it to make an extra steak com'n!! Alright, in the end, he didn't charge us for the children and the food was overall decent. The salmon was good, steak I've had better, and chicken was moist but a bit bland for my taste. The greek dessert thing, though, is HELLA GOOD. I'd like to give them 3 1/2 stars, but that greek dessert is really worth half a star. Lol. Plus I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, I honestly think maybe his memory's slippin' cuz he's getting up there in years... and our first impression was great, so I'd be open to trying them out for a date night in the near future.

Godd steak. Dark Ambience. Came in on a random chance, we were down the street and craving steak. Not the best cuts of steak ever, but cooked just the way we wanted!

I am an irregular regular at Gold Coast: by that I mean I come on a regular basis, but not often or at any predictable interval. I like the dark, old school atmosphere. I have eaten in the dining room, but if I am alone I prefer to eat at the bar. There are some dudes at the bar that I see EVERY time I come. I asked the bartender if they come every night, or is it just a coincidence that I always see them: he said they are there EVERY night! Dang....I like this place, but every night??? The food is always good, as is the service. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. From time to time I order something that is no longer on the menu, and they always accommodate me. They have a piano player...I think on Fridays....but I almost never come on a Friday. There are a lot of elderly people who come in early...the blue-haired crowd...LOL....but younger couples and individuals are discovering this hidden treasure.

Gold Coast Grill is so unassuming. I have driven past it quite possibly a thousand times, chalking it up to being some form of bar and burger joint. Then my friends asked me to join them here, which to my delight turns out to be a delicious, and might I add, attractive restaurant complete with waitstaff and old ladies eating. Everything was surprisingly good and vegetarian, this was while my friend was on his vegetarian stint. Everything we had tasted fresh, well-made and new (in a good way) to the tastebuds. They were also highly equipped to take things such as anniversary dinners and birthday dinners easily. I recommend taking your SO now!

Been here twice and its been great. It helps I attend with a local, who knows the owners and we are treated very well! We both ordered secret menu items - a gyro and chicken parm - and we were both very satisfied. Good calamari too! Great food, cool atmosphere - very Alameda - will definitely be back

I have no idea how this place stays in business. Horrible food! Salad was sad. Ordered the moussaka - heated in the microwave? It was hot in the center and lukewarm on the outside, uneven temperature in between. Will never go back.

The food was amazing! Very tasty! A mix of Italian and Greek. Delicious. The maitre d slash waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. We had the greek sampler as an app. Fantastic. I had seafood for my main and it was also delicious. Food was fresh. Flavors were great. Loved it and will be back again.

Flexed my old person muscle on a Friday night after 20+ years of resisting going in this place. It looks sketchy because it has Escalade-style tinted windows. Super comfy corner booth, live piano music, beautiful space, fresh flowers!, incredibly attentive service, an almost obnoxiously filled water glass, top-notch food. The prices are high, but this is a high price restaurant from the get-go, and the portions are bigger than you would expect from a place so crazily refined. The octopus, oh the grilled octopus! It was a special, and I hope it's a special for you too. Lamb ribs, oh the lamb ribs! I couldn't fault it, even the bathroom, and I didn't mind being the youngest person by 25 years - it made me feel sophisticated.

My husband took me here for New Years Eve dinner. We go to a "nice" restaurant to celebrate the end of year every year. The minute we stepped into the place it was way too packed to stand inside to wait to be seated. Nearly everyone there was well over 60 years of age and we definitely felt out of place in our mid twenties. When we checked in for our reservation at 8:15 he said they were behind. We waited to be seated for 40 minutes before the host took us to our table. I looked around the place and did enjoy the festive garlands that laced the entire place but the carpet was so old and dated I felt the new and modern paint conflicted with the rest of the decor and coverings. The upholstery was so dated on all the seating, it was cracking, and sunk in. The host who sat us pushed the table into my stomach after I sat in the booth and so I pushed it back and he apologized. The whole time we were there things were so strange, my husband kept saying he felt like we were in the twilight zone. The waiter was aware of us but would get to us just whenever he got there on his rounds. We felt invisible and then suddenly they could see us. He moved very slowly and was not attentive at all. The host and the waiter were difficult to understand and had very awkward mannerisms. Although the service is very slow and strange (I don't know how to further explain that) the food was alright. I did enjoy the swordfish but for the cut and the preparation I would not have valued this entree at $45. My husband got the New York steak which was also $45 and it tasted bland to me. He asked for it medium rare and they did get that right and he was happy about that. I would not go back here based on service and the value of the food. 2 stars for service, 3 stars for food, i would really rate this a 2.5 star place if I could.

This place looks closed from the outside, but the inside is totally surprising. You enter into a classic bar - dim lights, nice ambiance. The dining room isn't huge but the service is awesome. The waiters were willing to engage in banter with my talkative wife and were attentive throughout our dinner. The Greek appetizer was amazing with lots to dip and snack on. We would totally come back for a drink and this appetizer. The moussaka was delicious and I never regretted it for a second. We have walked past this place for three years and always wondered. Now we regret the lost time. We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I were in Sonoma for the day and ended up talking to an artist at one of the wineries....he told us about the Gold Coast. We had driven by there many times, but nothing on the outside says "EAT HERE, THIS IS A GREAT PLACE".....no curb appeal, so we never would have gone in otherwise. We were pleasantly surprised and we loved the old-school atmosphere. Service was excellent and so was the food. Yes, the prices are a little high for the so-so ambiance, but we will definitely be back and will refer others.

Wow what a nice find! While it looks nondescript, the food and service is outstanding. On valentines day we started with Saganaki. It was quite good. They brought it out and lit it on the table. It was a nice size and had good flavor. We shared the soup of the day which was potato and leek. OMG I would go back just for that soup. A bowl was good size and the flavor was totally surprising with bits of leek in the soup and small bits of potato. It had a nice amount of cream. My wife had the petrale sole which was awesome. Very tender/fresh and lightly . served with veggies and rice. I had the calamari which was very fresh with a nice batter. it could have been just a tad more crisp. My wife had a margarita that she said was the best she's ever had. This is saying a lot because she is really picky about her margaritas. Net time I'm having the lamb or the moussaka or one of the other fabulous looking entrees.

Gold Coast Grill offers mediterrean food of the greek variety. ambience is cozy. eatery design resembles a reconfigured house. open evenings only. no happy hour. eats: -comped bread -just average . -lamb riblet(9): subtle flavors, little meat and/or fat on bone, on the dry side, not a lot of juice 3 ish stars pours: gin & tonic(5.5) -very strong pour bloody mary(7) -strong pour also, mix from bottle but added spices made drink very tasty. leftovers: -live piano music. -food average, drinks excel, friendly ambience/service -lamb shank, prime rib, chicken picatta, veal medallion were recommended by bartender kerry. may consider.

Food was good, but service was just okay, and I was unhappy that almost all the dishes just were not clean. We had to send back utensils and when we ordered tea the pot/cups still had tea spot on them before we used them. So, even when the food was good, I haven't felt comfortable eating here.

Cute little bistro and bar place in alameda. Ive been going to alameda ALL my life ! however i never noticed this bar until my friend told me about it and took me and my boyfriend there for drinks. He bartended here too i think. but anyhow, the Bartender there was nice. funny. and very sarcastic in a lovely and humoring way. too bad i dont remember his name. I wished they had draft beers though :( only bottled. but other than that downfall, everyone there was nice.. even the people who were at the bar with us. most Alameda people are very kind :D

I have been coming to this restaurant ever since I can remember, so thats a good 15+ years. The food is excellent, service is fantastic and they knw how to cater to you. Appetizer: Greek Platter excellent choice before the main course. quite a big dish and can share amongst 3-4 people. Salad with vinaigrette dressing is very tasty with just enough dressing. Ground pepper on top makes it even better! Dish: rack of lamb I recommend this with mint jelly but to some it may not compliment well. I usually like it medium rare so have it nice and juice and tender. The flavor is made to profession and just enough pieces to you fill you up or have a little for next days lunch. I don't even want to start on the desserts. THEY ARE ALL TO DIE FOR. I especially like this (I believe) greek dessert, don't know how to spell it, but it is a baked, crispy outside and gooy apple inside. you just have to try it yourself! I will always love going to this place with my family!

Poor service. I am extremely disappointed in the manager and his customer service. I came in to have dessert and coffee and after sitting down at one of the nicer tables he told us that just dessert wasn't worthy of having a nice table so he asked us to move to the bar area. After being told to move in an extremely rude way we decided to leave. When we approached the manager to tell him about our disappointment he did not seem to care and just argued that it cost $3 to set up the table and he wouldn't listen to anything we had to say. I have had good food here before and am pretty disappointed with the way the manager acted. When I called to talk to him about our concerns he argued with me about our manners and hung up on me. Where were his manners?

The service was decent, and the ambiance a bit dated. My risotto was very disappointing. My two star rating here is a reflection of my total experience which included appetizers, drinks, service, and overall value. Many of the appetizers were tasty - a slight vindication, but not enough to offset my lack luster entree. I wish I had gotten the lamb chops as so many others have raved about them, but hindsight is always 20/20.

We found Gold Coast Grill on Yelp and made a reservation. What a wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious. I had filet of sole, yum. My wife enjoyed her moussaka. She loved her small salad. The staff was attentive. They didn't hurry us. What special evening!

Found this place on opentable because GFF wanted Mediterrean for his birthday dinner. When we drove up we almost drove off as it kind of looks like a dive bar. But said what the hay lets try this joint, plus there is parking in the back. The dining room was only half full but service was very good and attentive from begining to the end. My cosmo's were very good and very strong. Food was not bad, We ordered spanakopita which was crisp and interesting. Never had it before so had nothing to compare. I had the rack of lamb and was in lamb heaven , it was seasoned well and quite tasty. My friend also enjoyed his chicken dish too. Definatley a place to experience.

First thing - you can tell the amount of pride that goes into providing people with a good quality of service at this restaurant. The servers are quick and enthusiastic even when the room was empty. We enjoyed a good meal at an early time so I can't complain about the lack of customer base inside. I'm sure that based on the previous reviews this place can get poppin'. The food was good. Not amazing, but FAR FROM horrible. We started off with a great spanakopita that was flaky as can be and cooked to perfection. The cocktails were decent and helped to wash down the heavy Greek flavors, cleansing our palates for the next round. The sauteed chicken piccata and penne pollo were excellent dishes. Great flavor and hearty portions kept us shoveling away eventually reaching empty plates. I would recommend this restaurant for a nice casual meal when you're craving some decent Mediterranean cuisine. It's a relatively cheap meal and your service will be unmatched.

We stayed with the Greek fare and were quite impressed. We had the appetizer combo with dolma, and three kinds of salads, cheese, olives and it was terrific, the dolma was some of the most flavorful I've had, the tzatziki, creamy and fresh tasting. It is an old fashion restaurant with table clothes and formal service. That isn't always my thing but it turned out to be fun and respectful. It is a bit pricey for a casual dinner but the food and experience are worth it.

I haven't been to this restaurant since the early 90's when it was fairly new. I remember the food was good although a little pricey. Went back this evening and had a great meal and great service. Still a little pricey but not so bad compared to chain restaurants and their boring menus. It was nice to sit and talk with friends in a nice quiet setting where you don't have to yell at each other. I will definately return

I am knocking off another star since two of my friends got food poisoning from there the next day after our dinner. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After this review I received a written message from the owner of the restaurant telling me: "you should upgrade your pallet and your dining experiences" This is quoted directly from his message. Apparently I don't dine out enough at restaurants of their caliber. I agree, I definitely have upgraded from restaurants like this since.

Because the service was so horrible, I can't even post a review of the food. We walked into the completely empty restaurant and we were told that there was no way they could accommodate us due to all of the reservations they had for the evening. There were only three of us mind you. Somehow it's hard to believe that we were turned away because we would be too much extra work. It only leaves me to wonder what the real reason was. Oh well, they must not have liked our money. That's ok, they never have to see us or our money ever again :0)

We wanted a place to have a birthday dinner for eight of us and we decided to give the Gold Coast a try. I hadn't been there in ages but remembered that the food was decent and they had accommodations for large parties. It was a good choice. We were greeted as we walked in the door and shown to our table without wait. The staff was friendly and attentive but gave us the time to visit with each other before we placed our orders. All of us had a different entree but shared the Mediterranean appetizer plate of dolmas, tzaziki, hummus and feta. It was portioned so that we all got to taste each item. My entree was the rack of lamb. The portion was generous and it was cooked to perfection. The lamb at the Gold Coast is the best I've had. Other entrees(that I remember) at our table were the Seafood Pasta, Moussaka, Salmon and a NY steak. Everyone enjoyed their meals and commented on the fresh taste and the generous portions. For dessert we shared the baklava and the Galaktobureko - cream filled phyllo with a honey sauce. Yum! They have a full bar and good wine list. We brought our own wine and there was no corkage fee- I think that was a perk for us and not policy. I recommend the Gold Coast Grill to anyone - it is good for large parties (they have a separate room) and couples dining.

Went with a large party and we were seated in their large dining room in the back. The main front room doesn't have that many tables, but the rear room more than doubles the capacity of the restaurant. It's windowless, but they've done a marvelous job decorating it with large paintings of Santorini and large framed mirrors. Our service was excellent. Everyone was very satisfied with their meal. The rack of lamb was a hit. I had the seafood linguini with tomato sauce and it was good. Our fried calamari was tasty and the Greek assorted platter was fine. Gold Coast is an underrated restaurant. It even has a parking lot next door to go with easy street parking.

We had the fried calamari for starters. Then the prime rib special which was done to perfectly and was tender. All the desserts were homemade, so we had to have the bakalava with homemade vanilla ice cream.

Gold Coast has become a family tradition. I enjoy cool modern restaurants, but I regularly prefer the intimate, cozy and "relaxed" atmosphere at Gold Coast. The seating is comfortable and you never feel rushed. The staff is not snobby or snooty. They are warm and inviting make you feel like you are at home, but receiving A+ service constantly. Every dish I have enjoyed here has been prepared perfectly and I have enjoyed every last bite. And even if I know I don't have room for dessert, I go for it...wrapping a meal up with something sweet and a little samos (i love that drink) is the perfect end to the day! I take friends from out of town here all the time because it is not noisy and we can spend time catching up and eating a great meal. **BTW the cosmos are delicious. And the bar staff is great! Check them out and as they say at Gold Coast "Kali Orexi!"

Seeing that at present time I am the "Duke" at Gold Coast, I thought I should share something about the place. We have been there for dinners with family and friends, drinks at the bar as well as full meals in the bar area. Each time we are there, which is not all that often, we get the feeling from staff that we eat every meal of every day there. Food over all is very good with nice sized portions and the bar tender can create very tasty drinks. If you are in Alameda and are looking for more of an upscale eating establishment this is the place.

After a weekend of hard work, not interested in cooking, we start mulling over where in town we can get a good meal, good service, a few drinks and a certain level of quiet and comfort. Gold Coast seems to be the consistent winner. The menu is limited, yes, but I've always found something that fits my mood. The food is fresh and prepared nicely. The service is friendly and attentive. The crowd is mostly older...but I'm getting there too! Good wine list, and the bar pours a good drink. It's too bad that Dino left to work in a crappy restaurant though. He's a great and friendly character to have behind the bar. Best restaurant in Alameda!

Always a warm and friendly atmosphere. I've never had a bad meal here. Older crowd, but the drinks are generous and the food is always fresh, hot and tasty. Prime rib is a big winner. Chicken, fish and pasta are always well prepared and seasoned just right. I always recommend this place for a quiet dinner.

I love this place. Greek food at it's best. And i know Greek food, I lived with my friend from Cyprus for months! Stelios is the owner and he is a hard working honest funny intelligent great host server and chief! This place was our special occasion place among a few of my family members, but it is going to become a normal visit soon enough. I would tell you what to order if I could remember the names! The grilled cheese on the starter menu is DELICIOUS! The meatballs are a Greek/Turkey dish that will have you asking for more as well. The Greek style casserole is the best! Order it and thank me later. Nutmeg in a casserole?? Gettiutttahere!

I ordered the Prix Fixe which came with soup (or salad), entree ( i selected pork loin), and a dessert (store bought pumpkin pie). The pork loin was cooked just right and the sauce that came with it was also good. Mashed Potatoes were - meh. Service was good. The decor was a bit dated, chairs had some wear and tear. I over heard the waiter telling the table next to us that they had been opened for 20 year. Overall this is a place you can go to and will not be disappointed.

The roasted rack of lamb is absolutely delicious. Was worth the $30 price tag! Will definately go back.

The Gold Coast is one of my favorite restaurants ever! The owners Stellios and Christos introduced themselves to me three years ago when I joined the Justus family on a fateful Christmas Eve dinner there. I fell in love! The staff are not just polite and courteous but are intent on providing you with the highest service. I am always impressed when Jorge brings out his table comb to scrape the crumbs of my dinner off the white table cloths before suggesting dessert! It has a very homey feel and yet the food and drink are deluxe! The atmosphere may be a little dated but it is not shabby! The staff are meticulous about keeping the place clean and presenting a fabulous atmosphere! My cosmos effervesce a little more to the piano player's Linus and Lucy by Vince Guraldi. I have to say my favorite dish is the Veal Medallions in Champagne Sauce. It is tender, medium cooked and gravylicious! I choose the mashed potatoes always. Their filet mignon in green peppercorn sauce or the cabernet reduction sauce is really an affordable indulgence. The portions are generous but not gluttonous! Finish with a cheesecake slice, or even better, the bread pudding with caramel sauce, and a half-shot of Metaxa (a Greek cognac) or a glass or Samos (a Greek Muscat). All our family get-togethers happen here...every special occasion - like Fridays. Well...what makes it special is really the owners' dedication to serving the citizens of the island with the highest care and quality. Honestly...I'm a little bummed that the best kept secret is being let out. Oh...go try it!

If you are into strong drinks and old school restaurants then this is the place for you. If you are into good food its not too bad either. My first impression of this place is that it seems like a place my grandfather would have loved. Very old school and good strong drinks. The well drinks in this place are the best I have ever had in in the Bay Area, I mean wowzers they don't skimp on the alcohol! The service was also simply the best in Alameda. Nothing else even close. As far as the food however I have a few issues. First please remember I rate places relative to the genre they are in. I am also a chef with many years working in the fine dining arena and I tend to be more critical of the food served in these types of places than in others. I have been to this place several times and have been consistently disappointed in the food. Once there I ordered lamb and it was dry, over cooked and tough. Upon asking the manager about it he basically said "too bad". This is simply unacceptable in this type of establishment and with that experience I have stopped going there. Another gripe I have about the food is that they very rarely have any steaks on the menu except for skirt steak that is on the permanent menu (which is just so-so). I have heard in the community they have a hard time keeping good chefs and typically only hire mediocre chefs to start off with. Worth a shot but keep low expectations and you will be ok.

I am rounding up from the 2.5 stars I feel would be more apt. I like the atmosphere and the piano music. I have had better service in the past not that our waiter was bad, just not as polished as previous visits. It was the food that just didn't make the grade. I guess I made some poor choices but shouldn't everything on a menu be worthy of the price? Quick rundown: Bread was sub par to other "old school" joints Martini good olive bad Lamb riblet app. large portion, good flavor but tons of fat. kinda icky Caesar salad was ruined by the Miracle whip taste-Bummer, I had been craving a great Caesar Mom liked the Clam chowder I thought it was hardly chowder but tasted ok Duck L'orange special $24 big portion but sadly dry and lacking flavor Mom scored with the Shrimp Scampi the Saffron Risotto and asparagus were very nice So portions fit the price but the flavor too often doesn't. Try one of Alameda's other restaurants with a better rating before you dine here.

What a wonderful, warm, delicious experience we had here! This lovely Greek Restaurant featuring great seafood, meats and Greek Specialties provided us with a warm, inviting and awsome dinner last night. The service was spectacular - timely and not intrusive. The owner told us of upcoming Greek Night specialties. He also shared a shot of Metaxa with each of us at the end of dinner to toast my daughter's birthday. I highly recommend it and being a very good cook myself, I hesitate to go out to restaurants that aren't at least as good as what I can do at home. Also, having just returned from a month in France, I was spoiled by the excellent food there and my expectations have grown even higher. I was not disappointed but instead was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I enjoyed the swordfish with lemon sauce which was cooked to perfection. We had several vegetarians with us who found lots of things to enjoy including the "fried cheese" which was flambe' at the table. The bloody mary's were nice and spicy and the wine recommendations fit the food very well. Thank you for a lovely evening. We will be back soon!

Great place; have been coming here since moving to the Bay Area six years ago, and it is consistently warm, pleasant, and comfortable. Food is terrific, too, and in a region of overhyped (and overpriced), trendy, fashionable restaurants, this one never disappoints. It's well worth the trek to Alameda.

We've come here for several years now and I've tried most everything on the menu and found everything wonderful. They have quite a few Mediterranean items and I usually get the Moussaka. This is one of the few east bay restaurants we go to that actually serves Espresso and Escargot. If you like Escargot, this is the place to get it. We ate here last night (fri) and there was a live piano performance during dinner. When he started playing I was worried it might be too intrusive, but the volume was ok, but we were also seated at the opposite end of the dining room away from the piano. I have to give high marks to the waitstaff, they were very attentive, our water glasses never got empty and finished plates were removed promptly.

This spot is "old school". Granted it's only been open since '92 but you feel like you walked in to a 1970's mafia spot. The food isn't Italian, but everyone in there has that feeling. A couple points to go over: If you find a hair in your food, it will probably be blue. The piano player played the Charlie Brown theme song by request. The french onion soup is reason enough to check this place out. The service was on-point with everything. The wine list was average. Food was a bit pricey. Water glasses never got below half full. Wine glasses were consistently re-filled for us. I will end up drinking here in 40 years. 4.5 stars.

Went to dinner here last night and had a really great meal. This is an old school restaurant (one of my favorite types) dark and cool inside on a what was a very hot day. Had an appletini coacktail to start...nice and not weak. Choose the Halibut and it was wonderful, we also had the chicken and shrimp scampi which were also very good. The wine list was less than adequate, but my cocktail was great. And a note to the gentlman leading us to our seats..perhaps he is even the owner...if so, he could be more welcoming, perhaps a smile would help...I like to be greeted as a guest and made to feel that my business there is appreciated. It goes a long with to creating an ambiance that makes one wish to return.

I phoned in a burger and fries to go right before closing time. It was a pretty swell burger, flavorful, tender meat cooked to order, and they wrapped the condiments in separate bags so as not to make the bun soggy--a thoughtful, professional touch. The waiter was very solicitous when I arrived, and checked inside the box to make sure everything was in there. I felt guilty for ordering takeout and definitely will go back, especially now that I've read how strong their drinks are.

This place looks like a dive bar on the outside, but actually has an old-school upscale restaurant and lounge inside, like Bertolucci's in South SF. Prices are spendy, and there's not a vegetarian entree to be found on the menu. They will alter pasta dishes to accommodate vegetarians, but the request takes them by surprise (boo). Food was OK, but nothing special. I really like the atmosphere, and the service was friendly and classic. But for those prices, I'd need the food to be way better or my parents to be visiting to go back.

This is a quiet, intimate, and very comfortable place to dine. The price is right, I have never been disappointed. The rack of lamb is beautiful. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the menu could more extensive. If you are a regular they will bend over backwards to try and accomodate you.

I've been here several times and so far the average is "meh". The first time I went there I was really amazed and took my girlfriend a few weeks later. Unfortunately they had gotten a "new" chef and it wasn't as good this time. The specials are so-so, but I keep going back. Probably because when I order a rum and coke I get a rum with a splash of coke. (Like it should be!) Oh, well 3 of those and I could care less if the food tastes good for the price.

I haven't really tried anything that greek here, but I do like their food. Service is always good. Food is always good... I will just list the items eaten/tried here for the 2 times we've gone. Fried smelt - little fried fishies, not my thing, but the hubby loves it. You must share with someone as a whole plate of them is too much. Chicken lemon soup - interesting flavor, not like the other chicken lemon soups you've had in your lifetime, it's not made with cream but has a creamy texture. mixed green salad with pecans and currants - for $4 bucks this is one of the best salad deals I've had. good plate of mixed greens in balsamic vinagarette and pecans and currants for taste. house salad with house dressing - the hubs really likes it and thinks its the best salad there. seafood pasta special - Ok, i'm not a big seafood eater, this thing came with prawns, 2 types of fish, muscles and clams... I LOVED IT! I LOVED the muscles the most! I'm not a huge muscles fan or a clams fan but I loooved this dish. Pasta was made very well and the seafood was a knock out. french onion soup - hubs loved it lamb chop - hubby loved it, cooked right and good portion. linguini with clams in garlic cream sauce - awesome and a ton of clams... need I say more. THEY DO PASTA RIGHT! PROBABLY BEST IN ALAMEDA. steamed muscles and clams - yummy! the tomato broth is thick, but I liked it. hubby said he preferred it thinner b/c it doesn't mask the muscles and clams. prime rib - hubby liked it, however, he prefers HOPR b/c they age their beef first, nothing wrong with Gold coast's version, just not aged so not to his exact taste. So in short: - they do pasta right! awesome, would come back for pasta dishes alone. - they have the FRESHEST muscles I've ever eaten. enough said, they are kick arse. - clams are good, seafood is good, would say fish was the least favorite of the seafood part for me and usually that's a reversal of my preference. Definite winner in Alameda.

So sad, I expected better to be honest. I like the way they prepared their greek salad. Other than that, it was awful. I ordered the salmon, right when it came out I could tell it wasn't going to be very good because of how it smelled. I had a few bites and was nauseous the entire next day. My boyfriend got the rack of lamb which was like $30!!! It was not even edible. It was pretty insulting to greek food, especially since my family is greek and has owned a greek restaurant back east for decades. I took their special homemade tiramisu home to have later and it was also inedible. The top had an extremely thick layer of what looked to be baking cocoa on top. The ladyfingers were stale. And the mascarpone tasted like it had been sitting in a dirty fridge for a month. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars from me is because the service was decent.

I go here often for lunch. It is a great place to take clients for an easy old-school business lunch. The food is fantastic. It is easy to get a table. The service is top notch. I love the French onion soup! Their ravioli is amazing, homemade I think. As the other reviewers have commented, it isn't cheap. Given the quality of the food and service, it is worth the price, though.

I spent $20 on an eggplant dish and in return got food poisoning. It didnt taste good to begin with but since I was paying $20 for it, I felt like I should at least eat half of it. I personally will not return.

My first Yelp review! I love this restaurant, I come in whenever I come to town. My favorite is the halibut with gnocci. Also love the prawns and all the Greek appetizers. Also great pasta dishes! Great place to go on a date or to bring your family. Cool old-school vibes!

Ate here last night and decided to create a Yelp account just to write a review. This is one of those "fly under the radar" type places especially since I've lived in Alameda my whole life and just ate here for the first time. A friend and I came in just an hour before closing on a Monday night. Probably the worst time to visit a restaurant, right? Well, our service, attention, and food was superb. Definitely comes off as an older-crowd type of place, but the food more than makes up for it. Started with calamari then wanted an authentic med dish so went with the moussaka (moose-a-ka). Delicious! My friend had the shrimp scampi and it was a little lacking on seasoning but still more than edible. For the kitchen to whip these dishes up at 9 o'clock on a Monday night I was very pleased. Server gets an A+, bartender an A (made the martini and manhattan just right), and kitchen a B+. Will definitely come in again!

I use to pass this place when I worked in Alameda, but never made it in. I recently had a play date around that area and decided to try it. When my friend and I first walked in we were not greeted and we looked to be under dress, but we were starving. After a small wait and numerous looks we were taken to a secluded part of the restaurant. We started with the lemon chicken rice soup, we then had the steamed mussels and clams in this awesome tomato garlic sauce. For our entree, I had the braised lamb shank and my friend had the grill sea bass. Needless to say everything was DELICIOUS and it wasn't even that expensive. Our bill came to about $57....... and we got to take home 2 bowls of soup for free. The staff was friend and knowledgeable and I can't wait to go back!

It has an older feel, classy and non-pretentious, like somewhere Sinatra would hang out. The owner personally greeted us at the door and sat us. The wine list is pretty small, but with the help of our server, James we were able to find a nice Cabernet(Hayman Hill) by the glass that was quite good. The fried Calimari was excellent and was such a generous portion that we had to leave some room for our entrées and didn't finish it even though we wanted to. I had the Halibut on recommendation from our server and I was pleased! It came as a generous cut with a light lemongrass sauce over rice pilaf. The pilaf was a little dry. The NY Steak was also generously cut and came cooked perfectly. James kept a nice pace for the courses and managed to be present for everything we needed without dominating our table or interrupting with needless questions. He was an important part of the charm of this place. For dessert, the chocolate Mousse was very rich and a perfect portion for sharing. I'd say we'll return...

An old comfortable Italian restaurant now uneasily co-existing with its successor Greek owners. The good: - The service is superlative. We have gone to fancy, high-end, "name" bistros that lack this smooth professionalism. It was a real pleasure to experience, and we only wish we could send 80% of every hot new bistros' waitstaff here for training. - Comfortable, old-fashioned decor. Nice big naugahyde booths, and even the regular dining chairs are comfortably padded. Tables are big enough to actually hold your entree, silverware, glassware and bread plates without making you feel you need to start stacking the bread basket on top of something else to make a little more room. - Parking is easy, in their lot or on the street. - The Saghanaki starter: grilled graviera cheese served with lemon and oregano. Table-prepped by the waiter - he squeezes lemon juice over the browned cheese, then lights heated ouzo and pours it over the toasted slice of cheese. It's hard to go wrong with lemon and well-toasted cheese, especially on the soft old-fashioned Italian bread that they bring out. The bad: - The food is mostly indifferent, whether Greek or Italian or French. French onion soup was mediocre, as was the ravioli which was eerily reminiscent of Chef Boy-ar-Dee from a can. - Moussaka was a towering ramekin of potatoes, ground beef in a (heavily) cinnamon-scented tomato sauce, eggplant, and a thin flour-thickened custard layer. It came with a modest serving of sliced vegetables: the usual carrots, zucchini, and green beans. Not exceptional but executed okay and a very generous portion. Would be better if they upped the quality and sized it down. - Housemade tiramisu was large and towering but not especially remarkable. - Cappuccino tasted like Tully's, which we don't like, although it was properly dry with good, fine-textured foam. But the decaf coffee was amazing - rich, dark, and fresh. It tied with the cheese as the best of the meal. Despite Italy and Greece both being Mediterranean countries, their cooking doesn't really mesh well. The rich agricultural bounty of Italy is missing in Greece, and it really would be better for Gold Coast to decide to be one or the other. Like I-Squared/Oakland, which mixes (awkwardly) Persian and Italian, a sharper focus would be to their benefit. These old-fashioned, comfortable restaurants are hanging on by their fingernails. We love the service and comfort, but most of them, like Gold Coast, need a good shaking up to freshen up their menu offerings and get them re-focused in a more modern direction.

I really like this place. Atmosphere is great. Employees are nice with excellent customer service. =] this is a great place for steak. You can get good steak here for $22-$25 =] I had new York steak here it's good. I also had seafood Linguini and clam chowder soup is delicious. Plus they serve great cocktail

Dinner tonight was better than usual. The Clam chowder soup was excellent followed by the "Friday special" Filet Mignon with port sauce. Plating was nothing to shout about but the steak & sauce were perfection. Nice crowd, live piano player and an active bar. The wine was superb but that's because I brought it. A great 2003 Zinfandel from Frank Family Vineyards in Calistoga - an excellent pairing with the steak & sauce.
