Cute 1950s diner with great Mexican food and friendly service. Totally worth driving a few extra miles off I-40. Try the salsa!

Our party of 4 stopped not knowing we would find a jewel of a restaurant. We had various Mexican specialties and they were excellent! We saw that they had pies, 3 out of 4 of us ordered the apple pie - I abstained, I'm very fussy about apple pie, my mom made the best apple pie. I tasted my husband's piece and had him order a whole pie to go! Tastes just like my mom made . We live in Phoenix and travel for apple pie! 9/19/15 Just came back from Winslow, we had lunch (good) but we really don't go for lunch, we go for apple pie, the place must have been taken over by new owners, and they didn't keep the original pie maker! This pie has bad crust, looks like canned apples and no taste whatsoever. My first review was if a pie we had 2 1/2 years ago. Don't bother going, not for the apple pie.

I came here for the old-fashioned Route 66 American food. Their signature country fried steak, smothered in white gravy, filled that bill. Thus it met my expectations in food and decor. My wife had a Mexican dish and didn't like it at all.

We arrived in Winslow late, and hungry. The proprietor at our motel suggested a few places for a post 8pm meal and Falcon was the only one still open other than chain restaurants and we generally avoid those. Anyway, the Falcon was a very pleasant surprise. Great service and great food. Hubby had the Thursday special, beef tips gravy with lots of carrots served over grits. He said it was very good. I picked even better. I had the Mechacci. YUM! Fork Tender, well-spiced choice beef served with homemade refrained beans and rice and tortillas. I had enough food for four people and hubby took most of mine back to our in room fridge at the Delta and enjoyed it for breakfast. If we travel through Winslow again, well definitely stop at the Falcon. You should, too. ^^^^^^^ We have been back. Several times. and we've tried several other menu options and everything is good. EVERYTHING. Plus, the portions are gigantic! Did I mention their pies? OMG their PIES! The best part about the Falcon though, is the people who work their. All genuine and kind and funny and efficient. Honestly. I'm a Midwesterner, so I'm kind of big on genuine and kind. I love the Falcon. They treat me and my hubby like regulars and we've only been there four or five times. Heck - I'm tempted to retire near Winslow just so I can BE a regular. We love you Falcon. We do!

I feel that I am actually being generous with my two-star rating. The times that I have eaten in this restaurant, the food was just not that great. It was more bland than anything, and my hamburger was a little pink in the middle, which I do not prefer. A friend also found a cockroach on his plate of food, which is obviously disgusting and unacceptable. I refuse to eat here anymore. The bar is okay, but I'm not a drinker, so it's a bit irrelevant to me.

Very good family owned Resturant. Everytime we drove by, they were packed with locals, so stopped in and ate, all very good fresh ingredients.

Breakfast was great. Food was fresh and tasty. Nothing fancy just good comfort food. Place is old and funky, a locals place but such a nice change from highway chain restaurants.

It's hard to write an unbiased review for a restaurant after eating at the La Posada's Turquoise room, but there's not much to choose from in Winslow, and eating at the Turquoise room will break your bank account if you eat all of your meals there. However, the food here at the Falcon was pretty good. This is a late arrival on the Route 66 scene (it opened in 1957) so you need to remember that when you come inside. It's an old family diner, and there are local patrons who are probably stuck to the same seats every day. Decor is non-existent, so don't look for that. Our server was friendly, and didn't give me that scowl when I asked for decaf coffee, knowing that she'd need to brew a fresh pot. Food was hot, plentiful, and filling. It took quite a while to get our meal (almost 20 minutes for our party of 4), but when we got it, it was fresh and hot. I have to admit, their pureed pinto beans, which was a side dish, was outstanding. Good food and lots of it. Just don't sit on one of the locals' favorite seats.

The people were great and the food was totally fine. It's one of the places where you know it's all locals eating in there and that made it even better. VERY friendly people all around.

Service was great but the food wasn't anything to write home about nor good enough to ever want to come back. Keep driving or go somewhere else.

Waited almost 45 minutes on a portion of buffalo-wings and a grilled cheese. When it came out it tasted really strange and was cold. We told the server and she didn't seem to care. We paid, didn't leave her a tip and left the place. Maybe we were just a bit biased because we were travelling route 66 and we met the most wonderfull people to walk the earth there but this place was not my kind of thing. We also didn't like the gun policy in this place, people were laying their guns on the table like it was their baseballcap.

Have never had a bad meal here and service has always been good. The chicken fired steak special is one of the best. One of my favorite local places to go!!

There isn't much to choose from driving through Winslow but this was a decent place with real small town diner character. Service was fast and friendly and the burgers were surprisingly good, not just the cheap usual diner food. I'd recommend it for a quick and easy lunch.

After standing on the corner, we asked a nearby storekeeper for a good breakfast restaurant and she suggested the Falcon. Granted, we were a little skeptical when judging it from the outside, but my wife sent me in to make sure it was decent. It was more than that... I had the meat lover's breakfast with scrambled eggs, french toast cruncy bacon, etc. Came out perfectly. My wife had the corned beef hash and she still talks about days later. The pancakes were fluffy, toast wasnt stale or burnt, and the food came out hot. Service was very friendly and they do take credit cards... Would have given 5 stars if the decor had been a little less 1970s. But overall a nice, local diner. We will return one day.

Good food and big portions. We had the fajita special of the day and it was very tasty and filling. We were there later in the evening and I think only one server was on at the time so the service was a little slow but not terribly so. I would go back again if I ever find myself in Winslow again.

Good burgers. Dirty and in need of a remodel.. Fans, baseboards and bathrooms were dusty.

Indeed the look of the place does not inspire you for something very good but: 1) food portion was very big and tasty 2) service was super polite 3) beer was awesome served in iced glasses!!!!

We came in late on a Monday night and the "Special" was a 12 oz. cut of prime rib. I have eaten some bad prime rib in my time, but this was the worst. On a 1-10 scale I would give it a 1. The meat was tough, over cooked and basically unseasoned. The service was just OK, the salad bar was below average. I will not recommend this restaurant to my friends, nor would I go back. There are several restaurants in Winslow that serve good food, this isn't one of them.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
