Friendly, great food, huge portions, though you could wish for a cleaner environment - it's basically just not that kind of place. I always get the Pollo Asado, which seems to change a bit depending on what day you go. Sometimes there's sour cream in it, sometimes there isn't. I have no idea why. Too dry without it, though.

Bacon, egg, potato and cheese breakfast burrito. I was born and raised in Tucson. Moving away, the rest of the world doesn't know what a breakfast burrito is. The bacon is chopped in little cubes, the tortilla is one of the real ones (not those pillowy crap mission ones) and the eggs are pan scrambled in the bacon. I go as much as possible when I'm home.

We had a Nico's near our old house that was one of our favorite places to eat, so I was excited to find one fairly close to our new home. We stopped my one evening and were disappointed. My burrito was ok, but there was a lot of tough fatty pieces in it. My son's tacos were wet and soggy and very bland. I will not return to this location.

This place was good when first moved out here. But as we kept going there the next few times, it seemed there prices went higher and higher but the quality of food went done the drain. 2 breakfast burritos and a drink almost $16.00 and had no egg in it just potatoes and a slice of cheese. Super nachos $10.00 and you bit more then twice into chew fat meat!! They have lost my business at this point. Over priced and not the greatest mexican food. I'll drive into town from now on and get my money's worth.

Be it ever so humble, there's noplace like Nico's. Nico's gets 5 stars in the category of Quick Mexican Food. You owe it to yourself if you are passing exit 279 on the 10 a little ways south of Tuscon. I had a fish taco & a chicken taco. My wife had a carnitas platter. It was all fresh and wonderful. Some of the best Mexican home cookin' I've had. I will definitely be stopping here again. I might even drive down from Phoenix for some of this stuff. And the prices! Total: $13 and change. And the portions! We easily could have shared the carnitas platter and skipped the tacos. Not that I would have missed the tacos. Especially the fish taco. Gorgeous.

best way to describe the food here is gross. rude people here too. they say three things and that is it. first, you are greeted with a "YEAH?", followed by your total price, and then "SALSA?" seriously that is it. terrible greasy food and watery salsa

The people are always friendly there, they seem to really appreciate my giving them business. The burritos are huge and love their horchatas. And the amount of food I get whenever I order the Nachos Grande (think that's what it's called). Has carne asada, chips, and ALL the fixings (sour cream, guacamole, chilis, olives, etc.). Love their chorizo, sausage, and bacon breakfast burritos. So glad they have a shaded drive thru. That makes a huge difference since there is only 1 other drive thru place in all of Vail.

Apparently this little taco shack is a local chain. I'm not sure why because it's only about as good as a bad Los Betos. I despise the community salsa squeeze bottles. I'm sure they're not wiped down or sanitized after each use. Just a horrible idea any way you look at it. On top of that, Nico's were all virtually empty so you can only assume you're getting the last of Sunday or Monday's batch. The burrito I ordered came out surprisingly fast which always worries me. Probably some precooked reheating going on. The grated cheddar cheese inside was still cool to the touch and completely unmelted. Boo! Won't be wasting my time or money with Nico's again.

Meh. We came here while we were house hunting in Vail. It was just okay. It seemed dirty. That's strange because the food truck down the block seems cleaner than Nico's. The salsa, meh. The tacos, meh. Everything was just okay. Not good. Just okay. We may be back someday. Today is not that day. All four of us had the same thing, tacos. I can't comment about anything other than those. :)

There aren't a lot of restaurant options in Vail, so thank goodness for Nico's. I love burritos and theirs are fantastic. For breakfast I order the chorizo breakfast burrito. For lunch and dinner I usually opt for the pollo asado or the fito burrito. My husband is a fan of the flying saucer, which is basically meat with toppings in a crunchy shell. Sometimes we also get the super fries, which come loaded with carne asada, guac, sour cream, cheese, and salsa. I've liked everything I've ordered here. My only complaint is that their quality drops a little when they're getting close to closing time. Once I got carne asada that was really overdone. Another time the sautéed onions in my burrito were basically raw. Still, even with that they're a great food option in Vail. I have to say, I was really surprised to read some of the other reviews on here. I've been eating at Nico's regularly for years and these reviews don't match my experiences at all. I've never had them get my order wrong once. The employees aren't "cholos" or "gangbangers". I've never found it to be dirty or trashy. Overall I'm sorry to hear other people had bad experiences at Nico's, because I really like this place.

Wow I have just done the drive thru but amazing killer fish tacos... Light batter, hit and fluffy tasty finish with super fresh cabbage cilantro Tomatoes and some dab of amazing sauce. My husband raves about theircricevand beans and my pal thinks their chile rellenos are worth driving 20 miles for... The drive up window folks are always nice and I enjoy getting a hibiscus drink.., a little sweet but I make about 4 drinks out of itching extra ice and water!

My son always decides to get Mexican on Sunday when our favorite place is closed. Nico's is convenient to my home and has a dive thru. That is a huge plus to me. It did also have a ramp and a handicapped spot so it appeared I could go in if I had to. Both my son and I ordered the same thing, a burrito carne asada. The first time we went I got it as is. It had guacamole inside and I don't like that so the next time I got it without. I put on hot sauce, two types that they provided when I got home. I also added raw onions. It seemed to have some pico de gallo inside as well. The size was good, price just ok for the size. The meat was ok, but not nearly as good as my favorite place. I think it is a great place in a pinch or if you have a hankering. It could be just cause you don't want typical fast food. All in all Nico's has a place in my rotation so give nico's a try.

We drive from Austin Texas to get some of the Carne Asada Burrito's. It is a have to stop on our way to California.

"Yes!" A woman's voice announced at the drive-thru speaker as I pulled up. I placed my order, and was responded to with silence. I dared not ask if the beans were truly vegetarian. Uneasily, I drove forward and noticed a sign that read "credit card minimum $5" and a tips solicitation can hanging lazily from the window. But...it's fast food, I thought with a grimace. As I was waiting for my food, I noticed a cow poking its head through the barbed wire fence, grazing on a nearby mesquite tree. Farm to fork? Hey, it could have been a javelina. My bean and cheese burrito was $3.59, costing twice as much as Taco Bell and tasting half as delicious. It was literally beans, cheese and tortilla; no sauce to speak of. It was, however, piping hot and quite large - like Chipotle-sized. I spent a fair amount of time in the bathroom later that afternoon. Not saying there's a correlation, but... With that said, I will be back. Why? It's here. It has a drive-thru. I have a feeling this place would have seemed a lot better to me back in my college drinking days, at 3:00 AM.

As far as Mexican fast food, this location of Nico's is excellent! I have never been INSIDE. That is the beauty of the Vail Nico's. DRIVE-THRU! Yes, they are a bit abrupt while taking your order. There is no friendliness through the speaker. However, when you pull up to the window they are very friendly and full of smiles (perhaps this is a response to my smile when I pull up to the window full of shredded beef burrito anticipation). It can be a touch slow for a drive thru, so be prepared to wait a few minutes. They actually are making your meal FRESH! We are a family of 5 and have never had an error in our meals. Breakfast burritos are a favorite along with anything containing their awesome shredded beef. The rellenos are pretty good, though a touch greasier and soggier than I prefer, but that might just be the affect of driving them home and waiting 20 or so minutes before enjoying. We come here monthly and it is always consistent.

Food consistent and good. Large servings, just be careful of their fruit drinks. My son got one and it was full of gnats, how do you miss that. I also think they need to pay attention to their over all appearance. Starting to look like a trashy Mexico joint off the beatin path of Mexico. Sorry

Poor Nico's. 85% chance you will not get what you ordered 50% chance they will take your name and promise a free replacement on your next order. 100% chance when you ask for your free replacement - they don't know you, and you're not on a board. You're scammed and will pay again.. With.. 85% chance you still will not get what you ordered. It's like the song.. "There's a hole in the bucket dear Henry, dear Henry"... The food is good.. But what a mess getting a family order correct and complete! Not gonna happen!

Super nachos are amazing! Huge portion! Really more like a taco salad than nachos. There is no nacho cheese on these. Sometimes service can be very slow!

Its convenient and really the only fast food in Vail.. we pick up food there a couple times a month. Its ok, nothing great.

Fish tacos are decent...nothing else though. Just like every other Nico's. It is nice that Vail has another place to eat. Very slow workers.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
