I love Taco Shop! It is the perfect place for that midnight or later mexican food craving. It is way better then Taco Bell and Nico's too in my opinion. I recommend the Arizona Burrito which is stuffed with steak, potatoes, lots of cheese and salsa. Its then topped with more cheese and guacamole on a bed of lettuce. Only disappointing thing is the guacamole is more like an avocado sauce then traditional guacamole. If you are like me and have a sweet tooth, the churros are filled with caramel and are so amazing which makes up for the disappointing guacamole. Ask for chimichanga style with your burrito which just means they deep fry the entire burrito after its prepared. It is worth every cent of the $1.99 up charge. Honestly, Taco Shop gives you that hole in the wall, dive restaurant feel with amazing food but its definitely reserved for after hours outings since it is open 24/7 and nothing tastes better after a night out then a burrito.

Definitely my favorite place to eat at! Lunch, dinner, late at night after a night out...or even when you're just laying in bed. Taco Shop is good at any time of the day or night. If you've never tried this place I highly recommend that you do because you will not regret it. It would definitely be a lot better if they delivered but it's still worth the drive.

The Taco Shop is awesome. I've been there 10 or so times, and I've never been 100% satisfied with the taste of the food. And they're open 24 hours. The only thing I would advice, is if you go at night, be prepared to deal with sketch situations like people fighting each other (I've seen it.) but that also made it more interesting. Taco Shop for the win.

Boom! This place was great. Friendly ladies, too cheap prices, and delicious tacos! I stopped in for a quick snack and was surprised by how amazing this place is. I will be back for sure! Oh, did I mention the delicious salsa at the salsa bar? It was so good I could drink it from a cup.

Decent for a fast bite. Prices are okay. My usual go to for Mexican is always chicken, but it's really bland and no flavor. But I stole a bite of my husbands carnitas fried pork burrito and it was so good I had to get one for myself. So if I were to come back, I think that's all I would order because it's amazing. Guacamole is too runny for my taste.

Compared to the other decent latin food places, The Taco Shop is great(not to be confused with other similarly named taco shops. I ordered an Arizona burrito(steak, potatoes, cheese), and was thoroughly impressed. Alongside the salsa bar featuring, mild, moderate, and green hot salsas, the burrito was excellent. For such a small establishment, the service is fast and the best part is 24 HOUR SERVICE!!! So if you've got a late night craving or studying late by the UA, this could be the spot to grab a quick bite. The only downside to this place would be inebriated college students due to its proximity to campus and 24 hour offerings!! But for the quality and time of day, that might be a chance just worth taking! Lesson learned: never underestimate small food shops in favor of large, well-advertised choices! This place definitely debunks that notion for sure!

This place is pretty great. Typically go for nachos or bean burrito, both classics in my opinion. Just remodeled recently too, place looks great.

I love taco shop...the burros are amazing but you guys never ever have churros. If you can do a better job of having churros available I'll gladly change my review to a 4 star one but until then...

There is a serious and saddening shortage of 24-hour food joints in Tucson. Taco Shop to the rescue! On weekend nights (and wee morning hours) expect to see a sloppy array of drunk college students. Any other time, it's just a quiet Mexican fast food spot with decent prices and the usual offerings of say a Beto's or Nico's; maybe a cut above in terms of food quality and flavor. Carne asada burritos, breakfast burros, chicken tacos, etc., etc., are standard fare, fresh-tasting, and in big portions, but not overwhelming. I do enjoy the supreme quesadilla (because it comes with beans), but only when it's not overloaded with cheese. They do like to put a lot of cheese on everything here. Fair warning. The staff seems a little weary and worn-out, but who can blame them with the nightly shenanigans they likely have to put up with, being a 24-hour business and all. Bless you, Taco Shop, and please don't ever go away, cuz where will we eat?

  • Nikky P.

I've eaten here more times than I can count over the years but have limited memory as to what actually takes place... I do know this...great location for when you MUST eat at whatever ungodly hour it is that you're arriving in, that the food always tastes great, has the proper amount of grease/fat that someone who enjoyed a few adult beverages may need, and that no matter what state you arrive in, the staff will be patient and helpful.

I'm the biggest food snob and I can't believe I sometimes rarely come out here to eat. Taco Shop is great for late night food mostly after the bars. Food is very oily here, and prices have gone up since I was a freshman. Overall still good and their breakfast burritos are pretty damn tasty.

    (3)
  • Cesar I.

I love this place. I usually get shredded beef tacos... Their crispy fish tacos are great too.

    (5)
  • K O.

Their burritos are great, they're open 24/7, and they're cheap. Perfect for lunch or a midnight snack! :)

Good Drunk Food! After a night out on the town and you've got the drunk munchies- hit this place on your way home. Fast Mexican food. They have great breakfast burritos. Quick and cheap!

  • Courtney P.

I used to live a block away from here, and boy was that heavenly! I'm a simple girl, so my go-to has always been the bean and cheese burrito, but it's done so well that I haven't had a desire to try anything else. The tortilla is my favorite part. I also get a giant cup of horchata, because the horchata here is just watered down enough that I don't get sluggish after drinking it. And it's open 24/7, so late night food runs during finals were never an issue. I took away a star because sometimes it's impossible to get parking.

  • Sarah T.

The Taco Shop is a great place for college students. Late night service, humble interior, and convenient location make this a popular spot. Although the fish tacos are by far the best thing on the menu, there is a variety of choices. I also appreciated the self serve salsa bar which includes pickled carrots which is a rare find! If your craving honest priced tacos, this is the place!

If I am going to have fast Mexican food, I'm going straight to Los Betos. Yup, that's how I roll. But after much fanfare I decided to try the Taco Shop. I didn't make a full experience of it. I wanted a breakfast burrito, then I wanted out. Not because of the location -- I was just in a hurry. Walking in, I realized I had been here once before -- years upon years ago while a UA undergraduate. I recalled that I had not eaten anything during that visit years ago. I love that this is a casual, homegrown space. Nothing fancy, and not at all distracting. And, seriously, the space where the attendant takes your order looks so much like a food cart. It's kind of as though an actual food cart was placed in the middle of this parking lot, and a restaurant was built around it. With a few seats in the rear and a random table out front, along with tables on the covered patio, the general feel of the place is that you come here to eat. Not to mill about. Not to hang out. Not to socialize. Get your grub, then move on to the next. The spice bar is nice. I was glad to see zanahorias. To me, that's always a good sign. And they don't even bother to charge you for them! Along with the zanahorias was a hefty assortment of salas, limes, onions and other fillers. Nice. The burrito, at around $5, was just OK. I ordered mine with bacon, egg and cheese. The bacon was finely cooked, as were the eggs, and they did not over-stuff the burrito with a glob of cheese. I appreciated that. So, yes -- taste was good, but there was some oomph of flavor missing. FYI: They have flan, tres leches and cheesecake for those of you who need to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Just moved back to Arizona and I have been craving authentic Mexican food for quite some time as I have been living in Hawaii and they aren't exactly known for their burritos! Anyway got a veggie burrito and attacked their salsa bar. Love their flour tortilla, tastes fresh and made here! Also got Horchata which was a great start to my morning! Love it all. Will definitely be back and definitely recommend them to others!

  • Daniel R.

I watched the cook put my entire meal, Enchiladas, rice and beans in the microwave before serving it. I asked the very nice/kind girl at the register if that was normal and she said yes. The Taco Shop microwaves it's food. TUCSON!!!!

  • Roman T.

Great place to go after a night on 4th. Cheap, filling, and doesn't take too long for your order. Sometimes they have trouble restocking the salsa but over all the taco shop is an awesome 24 hour restaurant.

  • Alex R.

After waiting 35 minutes for our goddam food we decided that the $15 we had just spent wasn't worth it anymore. This place is a joke. They basically just stole our money and we went home tired, angry, and hungry. I want my money back.

    (1)
  • Helen L.

It is almost embarrassing how many times I've eaten here and it never disappoints me. The lady with her dimples pierced is the nicest lady ever and she probably has seen some weird stuff working the late night shifts haha.Their salsa is what makes me come here instead of Los Betos or Nicos. Also their tortillas taste fresher than Nicos.

    (5)
  • Rikki L.

Late night, post bar/party runs to The Taco Shop are a Tucson tradition. Very friendly staff, great fish burritos, and the hot carrots in the salsa bar are curiously several cuts above most. But be ready to have a fight break out on top of you if you go during the school year on a weekend.

    (4)
  • Garnet S.

I LOVE this place! It's walking distance from my house, open 24 hours a day and their burritos are so amazing I get insatiable cravings for them. They don't skimp on the shrimp in the shrimp burritos like so many places do and the carne asada ones are delicious. They also have horchata! They have a good varieties of fresh salsas (mild, medium, hot & tomatillo) and spicy pickled carrots on a buffet to choose from. The only reason I am giving them four stars instead of five is that I really don't care for their guacamole. It's too thin and not very bland.

  • Marina M.

Now THIS is the place to go for drunk food. Not Beto's. Not Nico's. I was introduced to this place a while back ago by a friend but never came back. Not quite sure why because the food is tasty. The food quality is leagues better than the two aforementioned places but still retains that greasy Mexican food aspect I so desire after boozy nights. I mean who wants salad or something healthy after too many drinks? No sane person that's for sure. Their horchata is soooo good and the flautas plate is $4. Sold.

    (4)
  • Felipe M.

Amazing when you're drunk. It's literally the most glorious food to eat when you're near black out. It's awesomely convenient that this place is open so late. However, don't make the mistake of coming here when you're sober, you might just be horrified at how greasy this deliciousness is!

    (3)
  • Brett K.

Delicious, fast, cheap Mexican food. The food is surprisingly good quality for a 24-hour joint.

  • Caitlyn X.

NOT ONLY RUDE, BUT WILL LIE TO COSTUMERS IF THEY DONT FEEL LIKE DOING WORK!!!!!!! two mexican chicks working at the counter, they immediately tell me they only have 2 taco menu options, which i reluctantly order since it's the only place open. not so friendly service, which i didn't mind considering the the early hour, but my friend basically had to bang on their window to ask for sauce. about 5 minutes after, two guys enter the scene when i let them know they only have 2 options tonight, apparently. they are greeted with a smile, and apparently all of a sudden ALL the menu options are available along with "would you like the sauce with that?"now my guess is the two girls figured it was a slow night, and didn't feel like doing any work so they decided the only menu option available were cold chicken tacos. when we left, the two girls were back on their phones, sitting around and glaring at us through the window.

Just driving through the city and happened upon The Taco Shop. Great fish tacos and shrimp burrito at a great price. This tiny spot serves yummy, authentic dishes from the counter.

  • TJ J.

I eat here almost every week and have never once been disappointed. I eat the same thing everytime as I maintain a vegan diet. Veggie burrito without cheese or sour cream. They get it right always. The tortilla shells are delicious and when you first get the burrito the lettuce and guac are still cool but the beans, rice and tortilla are piping hot. Then I add either the hot or medium red sauce. Paired with a medium horchata and I'm a happy camper. Taco Shop!

I always come here for some college kid grub solid spot

Taco Shop is where it's at for a late night snack. It's cheap and the food is mostly good. I would enjoy it more if they held back on the oil. The menu had more offerings than you can read through when you're trying to make a light night decision, but alas, the fried beef tacos always come through with a side of rice and beans. Surprisingly the beans and rice have a touch more flavor than the tacos. And the salsa is spicy as can be. NO drive thru here friends. Walk in and take it to go.

    (3)
  • Allie D.

Vegan friendly, favorite, cheapest place in Tucson! I visit maybe twice a week and the staff is awesome. Bean and potato burrito is my personal fav, and if you're dying of hunger you can get it double wrapped. Kind of a hole in the wall sort of place, but they are constantly upgrading. Best salsa in town as well. 24 hours so great after some drinks and whatnot :)

  • Brittany M.

I've gone here way more times than I care to admit. Let's face it, a cheese quesadilla from here goes perfect any time of day. 2pm or 2am. Tastes amazing!!! I used to live on the street right behind this shop and was heart broken when I had to move away. There was nothing better than having my cab driver drop me off here after a Friday night on 4th and then walking home with the ultimate prize: Cheese Quesadilla, Horchata and extra limes.

  • Valerie C.

Eh...If this is 4 stars I must be searching for 6.5. Carne asada was dry & chewy. Chicken enchiladas were boring w very little green sauce. The tostada shell was over cooked (color of a burnt potato chip). The salsas could've come from a jar & the beans were "okay". Only thing I really enjoyed were the corn tortillas & I don't think they're homemade. What do they have going for them? They're open 24 hrs. in a town that rolls the streets up @ night & the young woman @ the counter is very sweet.

    (2)
  • Nali M.

the taco shop was down the street from one of my work set-ups and the team decided they wanted some mexican food. the burros were a nice size and had good flavor, but there was soooo much oil dripping out of the carnitas burro, it was getting all over the place. besides the oil, everything was good and I'd recommend the taco shop to anyone who wants a quick fix of decent mexican food. (especially if you're out late! this place is open 24 hours a day)

I had a few average meals here until "The meal." I Walked in to see a customer complaining about something at the counter. I didn't hear what it was about, and when it was over I ordered my usual 2 taco plate. When my food came I took a bite of rice and was instantly repulsed. The rice was cold, rancid, and had a terrible odor. Just after I took the unfortunate bite, the woman who had been complaining before called across the room to me. "I wouldn't eat that!" she yelled, and then realized it was too late as I spit out the rice and gagged. "Its rotten. I told her" the woman said sheepishly. I took the plate to the counter and told the worker the rice was rancid. "Oh" she said as if it was the first she'd heard of it. "The other customer already told you, but you still served it to me"? I said. "Would you like some chips instead?" she asked while I stood there trying to get past the taste and smell. I have no idea if they continued to serve the rancid rice. I left and haven't been back. The meals before that night were just average. Therefor a return after a disaster is highly unlikely. What a waste of potential in location and idea.

I had a bacon and egg breakfast burrito. It was ok.

    (3)
  • Victoria H.

yummy! very good food here. Only thing i'd say is i wish the carne asada fries were more fresh. they kind of taste soggy, but other than that it is a great place to get some mexican food!

    (4)
  • Anna W.

The carne asada here is amazing. And the portions are so generous. A taco was enough to fill me up one time when I was extremely hungry. I ordered a carne asada burrito for my friend once when she asked for Los Betos or Nico's. She loved it! I just wish they had a drive-thru, it would make life simpler. This is an old beat up building and cleanliness isn't something they put on the top of the list. The food sure makes up for all of that.

    (5)
  • Steven L.

Low Class horrible service! If you like roaches this is the place for you.

    (1)
  • Bobby M.

"Better than Los Betos?! You fool..." "Oh but it is!" Anywho, This Taco Shop by far is the best place I've found a fast burrito. I've been to other locations, and it is the heat as they would say... whoever they might be. The food is superb if you're a connoisseur of the local Mexican eateries. Don't let the check-ins fool ya! I used to live down the street on Country Club before I was all about Yelp, and I sampled much of the menu. I've not had a bad plate come out of this establishment. And in case you all were wondering what my go to is at Taco Shop. It would be the Al Pastor Burrito. It's pretty much awesome wrapped in a Tortilla. It's a good and bad location at the same time, because it is the post-bar spot for many. Good if you enjoy some drunken people watching as I do, and bad because it's crowded at that time... and there are drunk people. So, avoid late night if you can, because the cooks are pretty consistent from what I've seen. Other than that the only thing I have left to say is, "You. Are. Welcome!"

After the volleyball game at the UofA, my friend and I were craving some burritos (bc earlier, at Zona101, they told us they will provide burritos --but they turn out to be the cafeteria burrito from grade school--lame-o!) so he suggested The Taco Shop! Oh goodness; the menu was bright and loaded with yummy tummy options! I couldn't decide! :O! Finally, though, I came across Al Pastor Burrito, marinated pork, and it was Delish! I never had that before and it blew me away; but I held on to finish the big honker! It's yummmmy. The sauces were placed out on a lil table stand from green chili salsa to med spicy to jalapeño spicy (I stayed away from that! Lol. But got me lots of green and med salsa!) They also had shredded cabbage, limes, and even carrots. Anyway, I finished the big honker cuz its was too good to be wasted. I was also wearing it by the end (I need to bring a bib!) because it's soooo juicy along with the salsa I pour on. This place is almost as authentic as it could get. Anyway, this place is awesome. It's a tiny shop packed with flavors! Will be back soon!!

  • Roxanne D.

I been there twice within a few months timeframe and both times they must've jus mopped but it didn't smell good at all! Not sure what's going on with that. The first time didn't bother me much but the second time did it for me. Great tacos and horchata though.

    (3)
  • Mike P.

My first impression was that this place did not smell good. The smell appeared to be linked to ... something that was all over the floor in the front of the restaurant. To their credit, someone was cleaning it up within about 5 minutes. I was a bit disappointed to not see much other than a veggie burrito on the menu for vegetarians. The burrito was merely ok, but fell into the trap that frequently hinders veggie burritos: not enough solid ingredients. If you wrap guacamole, sour cream, melted cheese, and refried beans in a tortilla, you don't get a burrito. You end up with a sort of tortilla-sack of squish ingredients that gets increasingly hard to eat. Really, just some lettuce or cabbage is all it would take to fix this (free tip! Thank me later, burrito places.)

  • Navid A.

THE place to eat late night. As the business name suggests, this is where you go when you want some drunken tacos. Get the fried fish, they're real good. Carne asada too I recommend. Burritos are the best value cheaper than Betos or Nicos, and better quality. My biggest gripe with this place is the wait, on a weekend night it is just ridiculous.

    (4)
  • Chris W.

    Awesome burritos!

    (4)
  • Stephanie H.

This place is awesome. It's SO CHEAP and the food is GOOD. Last time we were there, I got a shrimp burrito for less than $6. And it was good. Tons of selections on the menu (I'm not really a taco eater so I was a little concerned by the name, but there are plenty of things other than tacos). Friendly staff. Go here.

    (5)
  • Gabriel W.

I may lose a bit of my credibility here, but frankly I dont care. Is this place like ok to bring a first date? Hell no. Is it a good place to bring some out-of-towners who want the Tucson experience? No no no. But look, we've all had those late night cravings. Those aches and pains in the middle of the night that have you screaming out "BEETTTOOOOSSS!!!!"...well no longer. Now, you will long for Taco Shop. Its just simply the best of its kind, and thats why it gets 5 stars from me. The chicken burritos are juicy, flavorful, fairly big, decently priced. Sold. The salsa bar is fairly basic, but gives you some good sauce choices and they're pretty darn tasty. And best of all, free refills on horchata! I mean, shit. All the bases are covered. Glad to have found a 24/7 taco shop too...that definitely comes in handy sometimes.

    (5)
  • Jessica L.

Great for that late-night fix. Breakfast burritos are tasty, cheap, and hits the spot...an alternative to the Highland breakfast burrito (which has gone down in quality since I've been here). Open 24 hours a day, which is perfect for college students. Seems a little ghetto, but I'm pretty sure that that's how you know that it's authentic. I think it's even reachable using SafeRide. In short: Go here for late-night Mexican food since it is open 24/7. Or when you're short on money. Or if you're really hungry. Or even if you just want Taco Shop.

    (4)
  • Red R.

This place is bomb! The only carne asada without lots of gristle. They serve fabulous shredded chicken simmered in tomato and onion sauce. They will customize anything you want! The best part is that they make their own horchata! That is super hard to find.

  • Ricky V.

Taco Shop Co. Thank you for not judging me as I roll in faded to oblivion. I don't slur my speech or fall on things, but you know whats up. With hot fresh chips, and a salsa bar so easily within reach, if not wide enough for two people. I thank you for saving my morning from drunken hangovers.... With your starch, bean, and meat trio, as well as sugar infused horchata, or cola, i am saved from the dinges of binges.... Minus one star for judging me.

Good Mexican food. Great burritos and plates. It is also open 24 hr a day!

After a night of bowling, our friends suggested going to The Taco Shop. We agreed since it was probably the only place that was open in the middle of the night. Their was a few other people there having their late night fix. The hubby and I had trouble deciding what to get as it was our first time their, and the person behind the counter was not very helpful at reccomending something. So... we settled on splitting a carne asada burrito and a fish taco with an horchata. The burrito was pretty good with the help of the salsa bar. The meat was tender and had some flavor, but the hubby said it wasn't grilled it was pan fried. The fish taco was just ok, the fish was soggy. I would not order this again. We both agreed that the horchata was pretty good, and we have stopped by just for that a few times. Overall, I would definitely come back if I'm hungry after a night out!

  • Valdemar V.

I think these place is awesome I avoid los betos and avoid Nicos when I'm really in the mood I stop by here I checked out the other Mexican fast food places but I don't recommend them if you stop by during the day the salsa bar is easy to get to and you can Find a seat and of course you won't have to deal with the large groups that show up drunk like the ones you see at night over all they have some good food

Pro: Awesome price, Great food. Super long opening time The Taco Shop is like fast (Mexican) food restaurant Great for night snack. Huge Portion Con: Bathroom is not very clean Smell weird Too small inside Lots random of people (In late night) The Soda test weird..(Need to replace new machine??) Expect lots of salt and oil (Come on its Mexican food)

Delicious drunk food. Burritos, tacos, super nachos, it's all good here. Employees are nice and the jamaica's delish!

I had a delicious, fat, breakfast burrito here. I was stuffed and wasn't hungry for like six hours. Great hot sauce too.

  • Thomas M.

This is a great little taco shop. The employees are noticeably outgoing and friendly, something you don't see too often. The food is good and reasonably priced; I had a green chile burrito that weighed like 2 pounds and cost under $5. The meat was of good quality and not full of gristle like the nearby Mr. Antojo. The dining room is small and dated, and smells like a bathroom or sewer, so I took my food to go.

  • Nick W.

24 hour mexican food... how I've missed you so. This place seems to be a cut above most in its genre. Rather clean and less grungy. Expectedly filled with drunks at 2 A.M. Food that is some of the best in the world when you're in the 2 A.M. state of mind. Guilty pleasure, drunk necessity, and phenomenal food all in one, how perfect.

  • Andrew A.

The Taco Shop is a great place to eat whether its 6 PM and your looking for some dinner or 3 AM, drunk, and looking for food. This place is a hot spot for U of A students after hours and the reason why is because they have some great tasting Mexican food for a good price. I've tried many items on their menu however I definitely have to recommend a #1 which is Two Beef Tacos, beans, rice, and a drink. These things are so good and I can honestly say I do not know anyone who has tried them and told me they did not like them. BTW, make sure to get some of their hot sauce for those tacos, they add a little extra touch.

Have been here several times for convenience's sake, and it just keeps getting worse. Salsa should not mean salty. The four watery offerings here are a sodium-laden mess that will ruin the taste of your food. The marinated carrots I love so dearly are sliced like plaintains and unwieldy. The breakfast burrito was hot and not greasy at all, but the diced ham was so fatty that my jaw is a little weary. No chips were available at the little salsa bar. No napkins or plastic cutlery was in sight. Drinks are served in eco-hatin styrofoam with coffee cup lids. The cashier, heavily inked, appeared to have rolled out of bed only moments before. The Broadway location is AC challenged, so take out is the only reasonable option.

  • Patricia O.

I'm glad I found a good restaurant that's open 24 hours ! I ordered the carne asada (#8). They serve the food in a good size portion for cheap prices. The food was very fresh & delicious; especially the rice and beans. I like that the carne asada came with guacamole - not a lot of places do that. The only con was that the steak was a little too salty for my liking. I deducted a star because of the salty steak & because the place smelled like farts when I walked in.

  • Joey C.

Fast, greasy Mexican food. I would recommend eating here if your car breaks down immediately in front of it. There are plenty of better options around town.

There is no better spot for a burrito at 2 AM. Worth the wait even after the bars close.

Ordered 4 burritos for carry out. I was across town and at work but wanted the burritos from Taco Shop. Got back to work and 2 were moldy and two were wrong. Total. Fucking. Bullshit. I hate taco shop.

I don't tend to eat out much but over the last few years Taco Shop has been one of my stables. Going to the Taco Shop after hanging out on Fourth Ave usually ensures dinner and a show. There are a lot of colorful characters that end up there because it is a 24 hour joint. The service is always friendly and fast. One of the best fast food places in Tucson.

  • Maximiliano L.

The Taco Shop received this 4 star rating because it is absolutely the best fast food Mexican restaurant in Tucson and even better, it is open 24/7. There are a number of good items on their menu. My favorite is the Shrimp Burrito. The only downside to this place is that unlike other 24/7 Mexican joints, they do not have a drive thru.

For a while, I was down on the Taco Shop. I had tried the carnitas and was unimpressed: the pork was lean, flavorless, and on the dry side. I had tried the carne asada and was similarly unimpressed: the meat was similarly flavorless and a bit on the salty side (I'm not sure, but I think I might have detected a hint of pork somewhere in there, so if you can't eat pigs you might want to ask). But after hearing some friends rave about the place, I decided to give it another shot. And actually, I'm really glad I did. The star of the show here is the Al Pastor burrito. The marinated pork is tender and full of flavor, the ingredients are presented in perfect proportions, and they even put in some fresh, chopped cilantro that really sets the burrito apart. They do their al pastor saucy, which I'm not accustomed to, but it works really well here. I dare say this is the tastiest al pastor in this part of town. Do yourself a favor and try it! Also delicious is the green chili burrito. The pork itself is reasonably good, but what really makes it awesome is that they douse the entire burrito in a heavy helping of green chili sauce, cheese and lettuce -- they call it "wet style"; I call it yummy. Slightly off-putting, though, was the practice of sticking the burrito in the microwave in its styrofoam container to melt the cheese. Now, some polystyrenes are supposedly microwave-safe, so it's probably not like they're clearly and systematically jeopardizing their customers' health, but I still took notice. I've ordered the (less exciting) red chili burrito and they did the same thing, so I guess it's just a wet-style thing. If microwaving styrofoam makes you uncomfortable, then you should probably stay away from the wet-style offerings. Aside from these menu items, I've been neither blown away nor disgusted by anything I've tried at the Taco Shop. But those two things were really delicious. I would still probably recommend staying away from the carne asada and carnitas, but overall, I've been converted: the Taco Shop is quite alright!

Okay, I'm a little confused as to why this place only has a little over 3 stars. I think it deserves more. No it's not fine dining, and you're not going to impress any dates here, but what it does do, it does well! I've lived close by to this location for a few months now, and I love it for late night runs or a quick lunch. It's not as greasy as other Mexican Fast Food, and I have found in general, the menu items are consistently good and affordable. I think the veggie burrito, the California and any of the breakfast burritos are outstanding. The only thing I've order and didn't like was the chicken burrito, maybe because I felt like it should have had something other than chicken and guac, but that's just me. Their salsa bar does the job, the small shop is nice and cool, and the employees are efficient--I've rarely had to wait more than 5-10 minutes to get my food, even when it's packed full of drunk college kids.

  • Mindy S.

OK, drunk = 5 stars. Sober = 2 stars. Good: spicy salsa, and more than one of them open 24 hours CAN be tasty once your taste buds are numbed by liquor super nice counter lady Bad: refried beans inside of a shredded beef chimi - why? tummy pains 50% of the time I've eaten there rolled tacos = ugh other customers = double ugh why does the water taste like plastic?

    (3)
  • Jackie T.

It's conveniently located and they're pretty nice for all the drunk people they have to put up with. Their carne asada is top sirloin and is awesome for $4. They're inconsistent with how well they distribute the guacamole though :(

I went to this place every week my freshman and sophomore. It always felt like home to me, being from southern California (Mexican food scene). It is nice way to feel at home while at school at U of A. The nachos are great!

Hands down best mexican food in tucson! Im not saying just for your "drive thru" food I mean over all! I frequent the Taco Shop on S. Alvernon more than the Highland ave one. Its closer of a drive to me. I have never been let down. Normally my favorite thing to get was Carne Asada Burrito. Now Im all about the CARNE FRIES baby!!!! Ingrediants from top to bottom: light cheese sauce, fresh fried fries, in the top left corner sour cream, top right tomatoes, bottom right jalapenos, then the fresh grilled carne generously covered in shreeded cheese!! If i was ever on deathrow this would be my last meal! I can barely finish it all with my large horchata (or beer if its late night). its fresh hot and delicious in every bite. I reccomend the entire menu. Though I have not sampled it all. Ive tried many bites off my friends and have never not once been disapointed!* So if you have late night cravings or early morning cravings the menu is 24/7 DidI mention the Chorizo Burrito??? Sweet Mama does that rock anytime of the day!!! But carne fries is my shizz.. GO GET YOU SOME CARNE FRIES AND THANK ME LATER!!! *I am Mexican so i know what good mexican food should taste like.

  • Jamie A.

It's the definition of dirty mexican food. You walk in and have a 50/50 chance of the place smelling like garbage. If it weren't for the nights that I feel like cutting some years off of my life by indulging in some extremely tasty mexican food, I wouldn't love this place. Sad but true. I have never had anything I didn't like, though there are some inconsistencies. My carne asada burrito has gobs of guac one time, barely any the next. I mean, you really can't expect gourmet at this type of restaurant. I go here once every three weeks or so, and occasionally at 3a :-).

  • Diann S.

first time i went here was a late night after a party so maybe my taste buds had no standards but the chimichanga i got was AMAZING!! then i went here in the day completely sober and the chimichanga was just okay, but still one of few Mexican places that serves chimichangas so ill keep trying until i determine if its not that great or fantastic. service is speedy ad the staff is very friendly :]

Great Mexican food. Great prices. Open 24/7. Breakfast, lunch or dinner available 24/7. Enough said.

The Taco Shop Gets 5 Stars Plain And Simple: - It's great Mexican you can count on for really reasonable prices - Locally runned by the nice family that lives in the house just West - It's not trying to be something it's not with the understated basic interior - Open 24/7

  • Lea B.

This place has literally the BEST burritos in Tucson. Not only are their burritos huge (that's what she said) but the serve yourself salsa bar is fantastic! I lived just across the street and would have to limit myself to eating here once a week, which is totally true because I love it so much. This place is not only good for late night munchies but it's seriously just the best for whenever you are hungry.

    (5)
  • Eric Y.

hole in the wall taco shop. i've had better tasting mexican tacos in san francisco. not much to talk about except that they are 24/7 and you can drop by when your hungry. also the crowd at night isn't the best either. good night.

When it is two thirty in the morning, and you are starving, hit up the world famous Taco Shop. I'm serious. I was late to the game in discovering this Broadway and Highland gem, and I can't remember who to thank, so I shall spread the gospel of Taco Shop to yelpers across the land. Conveniently located near the downtown area and campus, it serves a diverse clientele. I've seen everyone from goth kids to cops to sorority chicks to lawyers getting their grub on. It is cheap, too. I'm not personally a fan of the eight dollar meal at Del Taco, so I'll drive the extra mile to Taco Shop to partake in delicious and frugal goodness. On Friday and Saturday nights, the parking lot is usually at capacity, so plan ahead. I am craving Taco Shop as I type this, just so you know.

  • julie r.

Good, fast, and inexpensive. I like get the veggie burrito and my husband loves the bacon, egg, and cheese burritos (available all the time, not just for breakfast). The place has no ambiance so we get it to go and we're happy.

Great food, lots of various great eats... Open 25/7... The best quick and dirty Mexican food in Tucson. By far better then nico's or any other Mexican fast food!

  • Clarence B.

this little taco shop is down home and righteous. got a nice menu for the right price. and super good too. this place is for the local crowd (look at the photos on the wall and the flyers they allow people to post), but are totally friendly to everyone... for example: went in recently with two dudes from Phoenix and we were looking haggard after camping/skating on the road for two weeks. the cashier guy (who is ALWAYS there) couldn't get one of the guy's card to run, so he just says "don't worry about it." tells this to a first time, skuzzed out customer with a $16 dollar bill. awesome. didn't even ask him for cash instead. (left a big tip of course). so, i want to give 5 stars for the good salsa bar, the big portions, great service, great chips, 100% corn oil in the kitchen, and good menu BUT... points deducted for: pretty bad guacomolé and having a "Veggie Burrito" that actually has animal ingredients in it (chicken stock rice). i also think they have gross soft drinks (i want mexican bottled soda like Sangria Senorial and Sidral Mundet!!) for you mexican dessert lovers, they have what looks like great flan here. homemade stuff daily. and oh yeah, 24 hours beyatch!

This is a shady looking place.... But its got really good and very inexpensive food... And its open 24 hours!

I am a Taco Shop regular and a big, big fan. This place is the perfect greasy Mexican you're craving to subside a gnarly hangover. I recommend the Supreme Quesadilla - a jam-packed, delicious queser with refried beans, sour cream, pica de gallo, guacamole, lettuce, and of course the cheese. How do they fit all that in there, you ask? With their magical hands. Watch out, it gets messy! The boyfriend is a big fan of the Carne Asada fries - also smothered with delectable Mexican condiments. And don't you dare leave without hitting up their self-serve salsa bar.

  • Brian F.

I love this place for late night eats. The other places are just a waste of time anymore, plus it's usually packed here and I like being around people. I usually get it to go because there is no room at 2am. But this place is my favorite for sure after being out all night.

    (5)
  • Charlene P.

I'm going to get straight to the point. I'm giving this place 2 stars because it gave my co-worker and I a bad stomachache for about 12 hours. We went here during lunch and was still hurting the next morning. Don't get me wrong; the food is actually really good and I've been there several times before but because of this last experience I'm never going to go back.

So very good, and open 24 hours. Did I mention it's open 24 hours? If you've just had a late night on 4th Avenue and are craving something to eat, skip the McDonalds and opt for this instead. I've tried a few different burritos, but I keep coming back to the Green Chile burrito, which is covered in a delicious green sauce.

  • Angie B.

LOVE the beef tacos. Everything is flavorful and it's not too expensive. This is my "go-to" fast-food Mexican restaurant.

    (4)
  • Victoria T.

No matter how many different Mexican restaurants I've been to in Tucson, I still come here more often than I should. I prefer this over Guadalajara. It's definitely not the fanciest looking place but I have consistently had the best tasting grilled chicken burritos and carne asada burritos from there. They make amazing breakfast burritos, consistently great tasting beans, and mexican food that is good at any time during the day or night. If you're a college student in the area, this is a place you HAVE to go to.

    (5)
  • Shannon G.

If you get the late night munchies or you're a wee bit hung over.....the Taco Shop is awesome! Let's just say I've been known to have the cabbie take a little detour on our way home from a night out on the town. The bean and cheese burrito (extra cheese)...is ridiculous mmm mmm good!

    (4)
  • Michael R.

This is precisely what I left the Pacific Northwest for.

  • Kevin D.

Excellent after a night out. It's good any other time of day too.

  • Jacky K C.

taco shop is pretty much a roach coach minus the wheels. they have dollar tacos so you can feel free to try all the different kinds of meats including cabezas and lengua. carne asada burrito is badass (then again, it's hard to screw up on that). it's also 24 hours too, can't beat that.

    (4)
  • Christine Y.

2AM, drunk munchies - I've scraped up some coins off the floor and about anywhere else I can find a couple cents, finally garnering a few bucks. I would not have bothered if not for Taco Shop. This place is awesome for a late night meal with friends after a night of partying (or perhaps a break from the party.) Considering how cheap the food is, it's great. It's obviously not a gourmet restaurant by any means, but for what it is, it's delicious! I would recommend at least trying this place if you live in Tucson and haven't been here already (perhaps you have, and you just don't remember it?) or happen to be in the area. Being back home in California, one of the things I miss most about Tucson is definitely Taco Shop. Well played.

    (4)
  • Alison H.

There is nothing quite so life-saving as a really good breakfast burrito at two in the morning. Spring for the potatoes, it's definitely worth the extra 50 cents.

    (5)
  • His T.

For what it is, it gets four stars easy. Open all night and really good burritos. Nico's has given me Montezuma's Revenge enough times for me to be wary of such places, but Taco Shop hits a home run.

    (4)
  • Ciara M.

Get the steak and egg burrito for breakfast and the shrimp burrito for lunch. We haven't been able to try anything else b/c these two are so good! Don't expect ambience or stellar service, but good food.

    (4)
  • Jeff D.

My good friend, Jared, suggested I try this 24 hour taco extravaganza and I was hesitant to go, being a Nico's fan at the time, but one visit and I was hooked! It is a small shop that seemed to have been restored from a small home but the food that is churned out at all hours of the day is consistently some of the best in this category. Often working at night, this was my go to place when I needed quick, inexpensive grub. I have tried most of the items on the menu but if you try anything do the chicken fajita burrito....incredible!!

  • Oliver D.

On a quest for San Diego quality Mexican food: Major disappointment. How does one ruin a burrito with only beans, rice and guacamole? I don't know, ask the folks here. The hot sauce here is nothing more than tomato water with some red pepper sprinkled in. The beans are a thick paste with no flavor. Nice?!?!? These people were rude, and this place was a filthy dump.

    (1)
  • Jen W.

Veggie burrito and inside decor aside, go to taco shop. Order the $3 carne asada burrito if you want goodness. Order the $7 wet green chile burrito which is braised pork (carnitas) smothered in green sauce. Red and green sauces are spicy. Wet burrito is perfection.

    (5)
  • KJ o.

taco shop co. is a neighborhood treat. (+) cheap, fast, good burritos. salsa bar with decent offerings. no lard beans, super nice staff, and open 24/7 (-) vegetarians beware: there is chicken stock in the rice

    (4)
  • Mike M.

Late night tasty Mexican food (when it's not Friday or Saturday cause it's crowded and the quality suffers) and tasty and cheap breakfast burritos! Good times at the Taco Shop!

    (4)
  • Ben L.

I get the fish burrito - the fish is fried and the sauce is great - I was dissapointed when I was charged for extra sauce, but that burrito is bomb yo

you hasn't been black out drunk here. i dont think i have ever been there sober.

    (5)

  • Judith F.

  • Kavin T.

  • Erica O.

    (5)
  • Keegan J.

    (5)
  • Courtney P.

I used to live a block away from here, and boy was that heavenly! I'm a simple girl, so my go-to has always been the bean and cheese burrito, but it's done so well that I haven't had a desire to try anything else. The tortilla is my favorite part. I also get a giant cup of horchata, because the horchata here is just watered down enough that I don't get sluggish after drinking it. And it's open 24/7, so late night food runs during finals were never an issue. I took away a star because sometimes it's impossible to get parking.

  • Erin B.

    (4)

    (5)
  • Eleana H.

    (5)
  • Joseph V.

Boom! This place was great. Friendly ladies, too cheap prices, and delicious tacos! I stopped in for a quick snack and was surprised by how amazing this place is. I will be back for sure! Oh, did I mention the delicious salsa at the salsa bar? It was so good I could drink it from a cup.

    (5)
  • Niki T.

Good Drunk Food! After a night out on the town and you've got the drunk munchies- hit this place on your way home. Fast Mexican food. They have great breakfast burritos. Quick and cheap!

  • Monica E.

  • Kathryn L.

TUCSON!!!!

    (2)
  • Roman T.

Great place to go after a night on 4th. Cheap, filling, and doesn't take too long for your order. Sometimes they have trouble restocking the salsa but over all the taco shop is an awesome 24 hour restaurant.

    (4)

    (4)

Sold.

    (4)

    (4)

Taco Shop!

They're open 24 hrs. in a town that rolls the streets up @ night & the young woman @ the counter is very sweet.

the taco shop was down the street from one of my work set-ups and the team decided they wanted some mexican food. the burros were a nice size and had good flavor, but there was soooo much oil dripping out of the carnitas burro, it was getting all over the place. besides the oil, everything was good and I'd recommend the taco shop to anyone who wants a quick fix of decent mexican food.

What a waste of potential in location and idea.

yummy! very good food here. Only thing i'd say is i wish the carne asada fries were more fresh. they kind of taste soggy, but other than that it is a great place to get some mexican food!

I been there twice within a few months timeframe and both times they must've jus mopped but it didn't smell good at all! Not sure what's going on with that. The first time didn't bother me much but the second time did it for me. Great tacos and horchata though.

Low Class horrible service! If you like roaches this is the place for you.

Go here.

  • Red R.

This place is bomb! The only carne asada without lots of gristle. They serve fabulous shredded chicken simmered in tomato and onion sauce. They will customize anything you want! The best part is that they make their own horchata! That is super hard to find.

Delicious drunk food. Burritos, tacos, super nachos, it's all good here. Employees are nice and the jamaica's delish!

Fast, greasy Mexican food. I would recommend eating here if your car breaks down immediately in front of it. There are plenty of better options around town.

Ordered 4 burritos for carry out. I was across town and at work but wanted the burritos from Taco Shop. Got back to work and 2 were moldy and two were wrong. Total. Fucking. Bullshit. I hate taco shop.

    (3)
  • Michelle K.

    (4)
  • Maximiliano L.

The Taco Shop received this 4 star rating because it is absolutely the best fast food Mexican restaurant in Tucson and even better, it is open 24/7. There are a number of good items on their menu. My favorite is the Shrimp Burrito. The only downside to this place is that unlike other 24/7 Mexican joints, they do not have a drive thru.

    (4)

I love this place for late night eats. The other places are just a waste of time anymore, plus it's usually packed here and I like being around people. I usually get it to go because there is no room at 2am. But this place is my favorite for sure after being out all night.

The Taco Shop Gets 5 Stars Plain And Simple: - It's great Mexican you can count on for really reasonable prices - Locally runned by the nice family that lives in the house just West - It's not trying to be something it's not with the understated basic interior - Open 24/7

Good, fast, and inexpensive. I like get the veggie burrito and my husband loves the bacon, egg, and cheese burritos (available all the time, not just for breakfast). The place has no ambiance so we get it to go and we're happy.

this little taco shop is down home and righteous. got a nice menu for the right price. and super good too. this place is for the local crowd (look at the photos on the wall and the flyers they allow people to post), but are totally friendly to everyone... for example: went in recently with two dudes from Phoenix and we were looking haggard after camping/skating on the road for two weeks. the cashier guy (who is ALWAYS there) couldn't get one of the guy's card to run, so he just says "don't worry about it." tells this to a first time, skuzzed out customer with a $16 dollar bill. awesome. didn't even ask him for cash instead.

If you get the late night munchies or you're a wee bit hung over.....the Taco Shop is awesome! Let's just say I've been known to have the cabbie take a little detour on our way home from a night out on the town. The bean and cheese burrito (extra cheese)...is ridiculous mmm mmm good!

Excellent after a night out. It's good any other time of day too.

taco shop is pretty much a roach coach minus the wheels. they have dollar tacos so you can feel free to try all the different kinds of meats including cabezas and lengua. carne asada burrito is badass (then again, it's hard to screw up on that). it's also 24 hours too, can't beat that.

There is nothing quite so life-saving as a really good breakfast burrito at two in the morning. Spring for the potatoes, it's definitely worth the extra 50 cents.

For what it is, it gets four stars easy. Open all night and really good burritos. Nico's has given me Montezuma's Revenge enough times for me to be wary of such places, but Taco Shop hits a home run.

Get the steak and egg burrito for breakfast and the shrimp burrito for lunch. We haven't been able to try anything else b/c these two are so good! Don't expect ambience or stellar service, but good food.

Veggie burrito and inside decor aside, go to taco shop. Order the $3 carne asada burrito if you want goodness. Order the $7 wet green chile burrito which is braised pork (carnitas) smothered in green sauce. Red and green sauces are spicy. Wet burrito is perfection.

taco shop co. is a neighborhood treat. (+) cheap, fast, good burritos. salsa bar with decent offerings. no lard beans, super nice staff, and open 24/7 (-) vegetarians beware: there is chicken stock in the rice

Late night tasty Mexican food (when it's not Friday or Saturday cause it's crowded and the quality suffers) and tasty and cheap breakfast burritos! Good times at the Taco Shop!

I get the fish burrito - the fish is fried and the sauce is great - I was dissapointed when I was charged for extra sauce, but that burrito is bomb yo

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
