Best carne asada in Tucson! You don't know what you are missing unless you've been here before and know but don't come often : ) It's worth the trip even if you live far. Try it!

Excellent carne asada any way you like it! Delicious traditional frijoles refritos, no Rosarita bean paste here. The rice is authentic and perfectly prepared. The salsas and escabeche are tasty compliments to their fantastic simple classics. Taqueria Juanitos is very close to Taqueria Pico de Gallo. If Juanitos went the extra mile and offered fresh house made tortillas a la mano, I would give 5 stars and this would easily be my favorite Tucson taqueria. Juanitos is decently maintained and very comfortable to dine in. The resident transients might deter the timid few but I'll put up with virtually anything for the perfect taco. Others might be intimidated by the prevalence of Spanish used by the staff but if you live anywhere in the Southwest you better start practicing. Taqueria Juanitos. !Cómatelo!

I just left this place. Its disgusting. Flies all over the place, rude cashier (assuming she was the owner), table tops not cleaned off, and food isn't very good. We ordered 5 tacos, a burrito, a sope, and a quesadilla. Everything except the sole came out a few minutes after ordering. The sope didn't come out until the rest of our party was almost done eating. 2 of us threw our food away because flies landed on them. Gross. Never again.

HOLE IN THE WALL purple building serving up mexican food! they serve up their burritos in delicious tortillas SCORE! the burritos come with just a small amount of rice inside, you can pay extra if you want all meat ---carne asada burrito: $5.25 the carne asada was flavorful!! burritos are smaller than the chipotle size but perfect for me! it also had fresh cilantro inside which i LOVE they offer 2 hot sauces one red and one green. i only got to try the red since that's what was packed in my to-GO bag but at least it was good! next time i'm trying the green sauce & coming for breakfast NOTE: breakfast is only served 8-11 am (sad i couldnt get a breakfast burrito)

Yelped for a good place to eat after making a Memorial Day trip to Evergreen. And Juanitos popped up. I don't know how we missed this gem. I often think South Tucson is the only place to find delicious Mexican food. I was SO wrong. I can't improve on the wonderful reviews written here, only say that I agree. I had the veggie burrito and loved it from the fresh tortilla to the cilantro dressing. Love the artwork and the eclectic Tucsonans who enter. I'll be recommending Juanitos to friends near and far.

Very very good place to get some delicious Mexican food, real and fresh ingredients ! $6.75 and you get a good sized portion.. Have NOT been disappointed the multiple times I visited haha.

Awesome carne Asada burritos. The place is not fancy but that adds to the atmosphere. It's mostly clean and welcoming but if the goal is to eat, people would be eating standing up if they had to .. It's def the best meat in town. Flavorful and juicy. Don't forget do add avocado

  • Michael Reid R.

Quintessential taco stand graduated to seated restaurant, good carne asada, quesadillas, there's lots of stuff on menu i don't eat, i.e. cabeza, tongue in cheek, whatever, and barefoot dirt-floor prices, excellent breakfast burrito on weekend mornings

Wow, what a fabulous lunch. The food at Taqueria Juanitos is excellent. It's the best we've ever had and it was only $14.65 for two!! Let me say it differently, if Elvira's in Tubac, AZ elvirasrestaurant.com is the best Mexican food we've ever had, at any price. Then Taqueria Juanitos is a close second and the best under $25. Really! We came here on a Friday after Christmas around two o'clock. Taqueria Juanitos was half empty with about a dozen cars parked outside. Given all the reviews, we ordered their Carne Asada and Al Pastor. Both were only $6.95 and made fresh. They were delicious (See photos). It was tasty and so much so that we wanted to lick our plates they were so good. Now, I've never said that before. Ohhh, and the salsa was out of this world. But as my friend Isabella J says in her review: "I give this joint a solid 5 stars...and there are so many reasons". We agree and you can read more of her review: yelp.com/biz/taqueria-ju… Five Stars, unbelievably good and no it doesn't get any better! Really enjoy!

This is a 4 star hole in the wall nice place. Clean. Old school Taqueria. Order at the counter and pick it up there also. No table service. Killer tacos. Very well done.

Taqueria Juanitos, you guys, is slow and you're going to have to wait. But wait...and you shall be rewarded. Here's my experience with a juanitos burrito: Texture: 9/10. Perfectly flaky & crunchy tortilla. Rice and beans with crunchy lettuce and *fresh*, chunky avocado. Fresh ingredients = dynamic texture. Flavor: 9/10. See previous category. There's a lot to be said for the preparation of the rice & beans: easy to prepare, but also easy to screw up. These beans, however, didn't taste like a vat of lard and didn't taste like they came from a can. Good beans is the base of every good burrito. Service: 7/10. Yeah, it's so slow. But so what? It's freaking delicious.

I regret leaving anything but a five star review. We stopped by Taqueria Juanitos tonight in honor of Cinco De Mayo and it was everything I heard and came to expect the first time I reviewed. The restaurant was very clean this time and service was lightning fast. The restaurant is vibrant and full of great smells, and it's hard to miss the bright purple exterior. This is your quintessential, down to earth taqueria, complete with excellent carnitas, cabeza, and pollo asado street tacos with all the fixings as well as a kitchen staffed by family. The carnitas are perfect, subtly smokey flavor with a moist center and crisp edges. The salsas pair well and the tacos come with cabbage, jalapeños, radishes, limes, and cilantro (on the side). The rice and beans are, almost unbelievably, just as good. I might come back just for a bean and cheese burrito. So far I've only tried a few menu items but I'll definitely be back for more. Their prices are very reasonable, cheaper that guero canelo or nicos even, and the food is much much better. I highly recommend juanitos, you won't be disappointed.

ALAS, another hidden gem in Tucson. Wonderful Mexican food served fast. This Taqueria has a nice dining area and, if you want, you can watch your food being prepared. The cooks are all friendly and I enjoyed the homey atmosphere. I had a delicious veggie burrito today and am looking forward to returning so I can try other enticing items on the menu. The breakfast menu also looks great. Can't wait to return! YUM!

The Burritos are Amazing! Best I've had in AZ (reminds me of home CA) Thank you yelp & good reviews, it helped out!

  • Jill N.

We enjoyed this place for a quick bite to eat. I had the torta, and my husband has some tacos and Ceviche. I thought it had a little bit of a funny smell when we walked in, but the place was very clean and they were friendly. Food was served quick and hot. There were lots of people coming in and out. I did clear my plate, but I am marking off one point for that cleaning-chemical smell.

  • Matthew T.

Good food, the Carne Asada was tasty but had parts that were chewy. Great tortillas! Bathroom reeked of some industrial cleaner.

I give this place my best review ! The Al Pastor is the best marinated pork in Tucson ! We eat there over 3 times a month !

i love how they switch out the server when gringos appear, providing the baritone english-speaker for our ordering pleasure. hell, i could be confused. i could be wrong. he might have been the cashier order-taker dude the whole time. but if i am wrong, i blame the mesmerizing qualities of the carne asada embedded in my bean and cheese burrito, the entree by which i measure all mexican restaurants. and taqueria juanitos passes with flying mustard gas. i had to get the onions and cilantro on the side because i do not like crunchies in my bean and cheese burrito with carne asada, but everything else is just right. sweet sweet premade horchata on tap, extra tang in both the red and green salsa, two kinds of hot sauce on the table, fresh radishes and pickled jalapeños on the side of the plate, nice lardy tortillas (i assume they're lardy), and pride of ownership reflected in excellent service and cleanliness ... this is how i grew up eating. my friend got "head in a mexican restaurant north of mexico," which is to say he got the cabeza, and devoured it; i was admittedly impressed, for gringos come no whiter. considering the price, the quality, and the convenience (for me), this is the comida that makes me feel guilty if i go to taco bell which, shhhh, sometimes i do. i'm changing my ways, guerro.

This place has excellent and fast Mexican food. The ceviche and the shrimp tacos are amazing. Each time that I have in here and has been awesome. The staff is friendly and I feel like they are all family and I'm not sure if they are related or not.

  • BabyGurl D.

I love this place and have came here quite a few times and usually everything is perfect, but tonight I came in and was kinda grossed out. I went to order and I looked at the toppings like the lettuce and ratishes and there was Flys crawling allover them. I mean Flys are not as bad as roaches but come on there just as gross!

    (1)
  • Vicky R.

I guess it will have to be short this time but if the best Carne Asada in town. Almost anything you'll end up ordering rather if it's a burrito, taco plates or anything of that sort make sure its carne asada and you'll be hooked after the first bite. The place can use some remodeling and can be cleaner but it's part of the charm. Makes it more authentic ; )

    (5)
  • Leon P.

This is a great place, and one of the few in Tucson that will sell Tacos al Pastor. The place is clean, way cleaner than other Taco places I've been. My only problem is that their version of Tacos al Pastor is the TexMex one with lettuce, which is unusual if you come from Mexico City like I do.

    (4)
  • Al E.

This place is GREAT! Come here if you want bare-bones, affordable, but perfect Mexican food. As far as quality-for-price, I don't think you can do much better in Tucson. Seems family-owned, and like it is run by people who take pride in doing things right, being friendly, and in sourcing super-fresh ingredients. My recommendation is the Ceviche Tostado. Super-fresh! Squeeze some lime juice over that baby and you're good to go. Also, anything with the Al Pastor pork is good. Keep up the great work, guys!

    (5)
  • Courtney K.

We found our new "go to" Mexican place. Super yummy and the prices can not be beat! $5 for two huge street tacos and rice and beans

    (5)
  • Ingrid T.

This place is delish! My hubby, mother in law, and I came here because I had heard from friends, clients, and random folks that this place had the best carne asada burro. We we went and had it to be honest though I loved the carne asada taco soooo amazing. Super affordable and I loved the art inside--we will be back

    (4)
  • Raquel G.

Best, most authentic Mexican food I've had in south az! I drive about an hour for their tacos de cabeza! And the staff is always so friendly!

    (5)
  • Jennifer L.

Juanitos has all the attributes that I love in a place. Local, family owned, clean, friendly, fast, efficient, reasonable, fresh, mostly healthy, centrally located and DELICIOUS! I've been frequenting for several years now and am always impressed with them. We've tried their caldos (soups), carne asada (grilled flank steak), birria (spiced shredded juicy beef, my personal favorite) and of course burritos (love, love the vegeterian one with it's rice/beans/cheese/lettuce/avocado/cilantro and green salsa combination). There is nothing fancy about the decor nor the plating but once you try the food, you won't really care. I've noticed that the clientele is getting more and more varied as time goes on and the word gets out on this gem.

    (5)
  • Tatiana O.

If your looking for burritos this is the place to go !!! I had burrito de cabeza and all I can say is wow !!! My boyfriend had a burrito mixto the asada was well prepared and perfectly season and all we spent was like 12$ great deal for a big lunch !!

    (5)
  • Ned B.

Best tacos! They're so inexpensive too! Ive eaten here 3 meals in one day one time. If you've never tried it I highly suggest taking a drive over there.

    (5)
  • Sadie E.

We stopped here while driving thru Tucson from California to Texas. We arrived too late for breakfast but got carne asada tacos and the barbacoa plate. The meat was tender and well seasoned, tortillas were fresh, and the salsa was hot. What a wonderful meal! The service as also super friendly and fast.

    (5)
  • Denise G.

This place has some really good food. You order at the counter and then go up and get it when they call out your order. It's ready pretty fast. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is because their tacos are SMALL. I ordered two tacos with rice and beans on the side and was still hungry afterwards. My husband had to order two different orders for himself cause he felt the same way.

    (4)
  • Matthew M.

Excellent food no complaints here. Good service friendly staff. Very good tortillas

    (5)
  • Cody S.

I've driven by this place dozens of times but haven't eaten there until today. The purple building is cool as well as the artwork inside - it's tough to beat huge paintings of luchadors on the walls! The food is very impressive - some of the best carne asada and pork I've had in town. I went with a group of 6, and we all had tacos and really enjoyed them. They messed up a couple of the orders but got them fixed quickly. This place is great, I'd definitely go back!

    (4)
  • Ray C.

I was sitting my friends store and he turned me on this plac, I had seen good reviews before I asked him. I tried the Asada tacos and Asada sope. The meat has a different but good seasoning that almost make it taste like Pastor. The Tacos are by far the some of the best it town. I gave it a 4 star because I need to try some other items to see how consistent they are. Don't let the outside fool you! This place is pretty damn good!!!!

    (4)
  • Amelia M.

The finest burritos in the southwest, from the tortillas to the carne asada to the chorizo and egg. Special soups on the weekends. Absolutely authentic and delicious. Super fresh ingredients, everything made in-house. I can't wait to go back.

  • Jeff A.

Authentic and Genuine. I am traveling and found this place on Yelp. A lot of reviews so I gave it a shot. If I had driven past and not read the Yelp reviews I might not have stopped for dinner. However, I am so glad that I did. This is without a doubt 5 star food. The food is real and very authentic. The people who run this restaurant are very genuine. Forget pretentious restaurants with table clothes, fine china and over inflated prices. Taqueria Juanitos is as good as it gets. Great Authentic Food, Good People and extremely reasonable prices.

    (5)
  • Dylan S.

If you want great food and to support a family business that puts their customers first, this is your place. They will let you try any of their meats before you buy them, and will do everything they can to make sure the food that you ordered is what you want. I have only been in Tucson for 3 1/2 years, but so far this is the best Mexican food I have found.

    (5)
  • Brett A.

I had the carne asada burrito and it was pretty yummy. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. Price was good, service very friendly. They let me try the al pastor which was good, but a bit fatty. However, the carne asada burrito was well seasoned, and I liked the cilantro in the burrito, gave it a fresh feel.

    (5)
  • Chris R.

nothing beats a 5 dollar breakfast burrito. mmm mmm!

    (5)
  • Tyson G.

The Carne Asada burrito was pretty good but it was not really something that would specifically make me go out of my way for. I asked for the Al Pastor plate but it was "not ready". I'll definitely try this place again but I will try something else, perhaps the Al Pastor?

    (4)
  • Barrio L.

Best carne asada in town!!!!! Solid cocido. Excellent bean tostada--a good test of any taco joint. Not wild about the premade horchata or the unflattering lighting, but the people who work here are so super nice. And the food is delicious. Probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in Tucson. If only they were closer to downtown.

    (5)
  • Brian H.

Juanitos has consistently excellent taqueria style mexican food. I have sampled all of the taco meats and all are always excellent. Their cabeza isn't as good as BK (which is who I compare everyone's to), but not bad. I have become a big fan of their ceviche tostada, which I always get with a couple of tacos. Service and prices are excellent. Do yourself a favor not to overlook, or drive by, this Tucson staple.

Egg cheese bean and papas delish.Had to have there awesome breakfast burrito again this morning only way I can start my Saturdays!

    (5)
  • Matthew J.

excellent burritos everytime we order from here. In fact it is the best place to get burritos that I have found in Tucson! Great food and excellent service!

    (5)
  • J H.

This place is FANTASTIC! Go in and talk to Juan. He set us up our first time. Great family owned business and very friendly.

    (5)
  • Jes W.

Carne asado tacos are wonderful!!!!!!! This food is so good, I keep finding excuses to drive 45 minutes across town. It's a dive, but oh my, it's heavenly!!!

    (5)
  • Katelyn S.

I had a regular bean and cheese burrito that was simply fantastic. The flavors were authentic, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I text my father while I was eating at the restaurant and told him next time he is in Tucson, I'm mandating that he eat here. Great place.

    (5)
  • Kaige L.

Best carne asada tacos in all of tucson IMO...price is very low too. Most places charge too much for their tacos but this place is spot on

  • Isabella J.

Although my profile might make me out to be an Italian.....I'm actually MEXICAN. Yes, it true buey (dude in Spanish)...I from di border town known as Nogaaaales. So, with that said, I prefer to eat my Mexican meals in the comfort of my mothers fabulous kitchen, where fresh salsa is made weekly, Machaca and Eggs for Sunday Brunch with Fresh Avocado and chilaquiles.... But anyway...this review is about Taqueria Juanitos! I give this joint a solid 5 stars...and there are so many reasons I'll just list them: -Kitchen is so clean you lick the floor -Fresh Fresh Fresh Carne Asada is always rotated on the grill top -Consistently ripe and delicious Avocados in Stock -BEST QUESADILLA IN TOWN: (besides my own or my moms): These guys use the legit Sonoran Flour Tortilla that gets Crsipy and Flaky, Not Chewy and Flavorless like the Gringo types served at Guadalajara Grill. I prefer my quesadilla with Cheese only, but if my stomach is feeling strong I'll go for a Quesadilla with Asada in it. TASTE BUD ALTERING.*** -The CEVICHE: Simple, basic, but solid in flavor and freshness. Order it on a Tostada. Its citrusy flavors really hit the spot when you're craving something light and crisp. -did I mention the rice and beans are always delish? I'm personally not a huge fan of Sonoran style rice and beans (the lard doesn't agree with me), but these sides always compliment the rest of the meal. -Red house-made salsa is a 4 of ouf 5. Flavor profile is good, but doesn't have the WOW factor. -Service is fast -ALWAYS a great place to catch a diverse group of people dining together. I've eaten many lunches among business men, young mexican families, gangster types, men in Tiger Print Spandex. EVERYONE COMES HERE BECAUSE THE FOOD IS GOOD, CLEAN, FRESH. VIVA JUANITO!

This is the perfect restaurant for travelers on the I-10. Taqueria Juanitos is just off the freeway and serves authentic, delicious Mexican food with fast service, nice staff and in a clean environment. Everything we had was outstanding; even our picky kids were raving about it.

    (5)
  • Pierre D.

I've been going here for about 15 years now and this place is always delicious! I've had a few different things but the carne asada tacos are by far the best anywhere in Tucson! I also really enjoy the quesadillas even more so with chicken inside!

    (5)
  • Jonathan B.

This is really great mexican food at its best. Affordable and friendly. The veggie options are great and we love going there.

    (4)
  • Conchita C.

Still my favorite favors! Cooked well, great tortillas, always fresh onion and cilantro. Inside wall decor has been redone- very nice! The booths are next, right? They get a lot of use...why? Because the food is soooo good!

    (4)
  • Jenn D.

Delicious tacos not to be missed! Great Carne Asada and Al pastor all freshly made and cooked perfectly :) Don't miss this gem!

Great tacos. Best in Tucson. I eat here at least twice a week and have always had GREAT food.

    (5)
  • Mike S.

Best Sonoran Food in Tucson! They have the highest quality food there. I have eaten there for years. They use nice fresh avocados, the portions are awesome and the employees and the owner are something special. I LOOOOOOOVE this place so very much! Hands down best place in Tucson.

The menudo was good but the carnitas were the worst I've ever had. The tables were all dirty and I could only spot on hot sauce bottle that wasn't empty but some

    (2)
  • Robert F.

Food is on point ordered the carnitas plate and asada tacos.... Good eats for sure. Clearly a place for the locals and didn't disappoint. Line was pretty long but the owner quickly took care of every patron in minutes. If you are passing through and want authentic Mex food this little gem is worth the drive.

  • Jacky O.

The best tacos in AZ and the US I am from Mexico City and is very hard to find a good taqueria in the United States that resembles Mexico City popular foods like "tacos de suadero" which some how Juanitos has being able to equal with their crane asada tacos :) If you want a know how real Mexican food taste like go here I repeat real Mexican food NO SONORAN Mexican food Great place very affordable and clean Ask anything in the menu and you will love it. Personally the individual tacos is the way to go. The sopes are very good as well and not to mention the soups for a cold rainy afternoon.

I'm definitely a fan! Really good carne asada burrito. The pastor is good too. Staff is super friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Bathrooms are clean as well which is always a good sign! My sister absolutely loves the chicken burrrito! My only regret is that they don't serve a chile relleno burrito or tortilla chips. That being said Juanitos is our go to place when we're in Tuscon!!

    (4)
  • Jeremy P.

Since our hotel was nearby we decided to give this place a try for lunch. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos which were very good, and my girlfriend ordered 2 shredded chicken tacos which she liked but the chicken was a bit greasy (was dripping a red greasy sauce). We also got horchatas, not the best we have had but not the worst either. I think that a little bit more spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, etc) and a little less water/ice would make the horchata much better! Overall, good place to stop by for a taco or two or..... even three! (tacos are relatively small here).

    (4)
  • Jennifer D.

I pass by this place everyday on my way home from school. So Yesterday I decided it was time to go in and check them out. I ordered my usual which is a beans rice and cheese burrito. I don't like salsa or anything extra in my food, and I told the lady who took my order, but when I took a bite there was a mess of cilantro inside the burrito GROSS! SO I had to dig out the green stuff, and re roll the burrito before the taste settled in. But after that the burrito tasted fine. I am going to have to go back another day, and try it again without the mess.

TJ's is as autentico as it gets on Grant Road, and while the long picnic tables are often dirtier than necessary, the tacos and burritos are overstuffed and someone in the kitchen cares. The carne asada plate is delicioso, and is actually tender and is sweet and citrus-y like the classic South Side grilled version. It's best to take out at TJ's as the noise and open dining area are a bit much on a chilly night.

    (4)
  • John P.

TJ's is a great street-food joint with top notch flavors. The wild purple exterior speaks of a party atmosphere that belies what going on inside, where it's all business, and the business is delicious Mexican food for a low price. It's a fairly bare-bones affair, with picnic-style tables fill the front room, and extra seats for people waiting to take something tasty home. By and large it's like the next stepping stone up from a taco truck. The al pastor burritos, meat-only, are full of flavor and cooked fresh daily. The housemade salsas are full of flavor with just a slight kick of heat. With an excellent balance of seasonings and ingredients, the crew at this taco shop maintain a solid work ethic and love of food.

    (4)
  • Travis E.

Best tacos in Tucson. I go there often for lunch because it's so fast and cheap. $1.35 per taco is amazing! I usually get the carne asada and cabeza tacos and the torta asada, but everything I've had there has been great. It's an awesome lunch place, never been there for dinner so I'm not sure if the quality is the same. For all the hype Guero Canelo gets....I think the real Tucson gem is right around the corner at Juanitos.

    (5)
  • Lisa M.

The food is fresh, consistent and always delicious! The building is older but they always keep it tidy and clean.

  • erik b.

I live down the street. Born and raised in LA, go to school at the university of arizona. THIS PLACE IS GOLD! I eat here 5-6 days a week. Their tacos are only 1.35 and are the tastiest you can find around town. This is a MUST TRY. Brought my Family here this past weekend while they were visiting. They were here for 3 days. And we went to Juanitos Taqueria all 3 days!!!! TACOS ARE DELICIOUS!!!!! GO FOR THE CABEZA AND CARNITAS TACOS!!! ASADA ARE GREAT AS WELL!!! MUST GO HERE!!!!! SEE YOU GUYS TOMORROW!

    (5)
  • Brian B.

Unbelievable tacos. Born in LA, traveled through MX, and now living in SF. But these tacos were insane. Three days in Tucson, three days at Juanitos. Sampled all the tacos, and couldn't get enough of the Carnitas and the Cabeza. Especially the cabeza. Just do it.

    (5)
  • Megan B.

Not overly impressed to be honest. They're portions are small compared to other restaurants nearby. The carnitas tasted burned and then sauced because they were burned. The torta looked better in the picture on the menu and looked a whole lot worse in person. The ceviche is all imitation seafood. Even the horchata was crappy. Sure it's popular, but I cannot figure out why. El Potosino is still better, same prices but better portion size and quality.

    (2)
  • Bill C.

Tacos al pastor (#2 combo) were excellent! Try the pickled jalapeno strips on it.

    (4)
  • Gillian N.

This place is always so delicious. The tortillas are bomb, the cheese used in the quesadillas is so good. The chicken is flavorful and delicious, the avocados are always perfectly ripe, the salsa is amazing (green or red), the beans are yummy. Only downside is the location. Lock your car doors and avoid the panhandlers! Inside though is clean and well organized. I 've checked the pima health inspections and they are consistenly excellent.

    (5)
  • Scott W.

Extremely cheap. Extremely good. Very clean kitchen. It's worth the drive across Oracle. Try the Chile Colorado. It's superb!

    (5)
  • Andrew D.

If your a fan of great authentic Mexican food then you will love Juanito's. The food is amazing, the beverages are straight out of Mexico and your food is ready right away. All that coupled with the fact that it is really inexpensive makes this place one you have to check out!

    (4)

Great carne asada tacos! I am a fan that the tortillas are slightly toasted, so the salsa doesn't cause them to crumble. The tacos are not full of fat, juicy, yet still cooked well. I am a fan of well done meat. I know, I know. But, still. The salsa was spicy, but they serve tomatillo salsa and that in and of itself is an extra star from me.

Great food, okay service and better than average sanitation for this type of restaurant. I would recommend. Try the #1 ... You won't regret it!

This unassuming restaurant is all about the food. They continue to strive with a strong following despite recent opening of El Guerro Canelo within walking distance. s'far as I'm concerned, they have nothing to fear as their food is far better than EGC. The quality of the meat and flavor is great. Carne asada is not chewy like most cheap Mexican joints. If you try it, I guaranty you'll be back. UPDATE (Jan 2013): They recently remodeled the inside and made the menu more organized. The same great tasting food. This is probably in response to El Guero Canello opening up nearby. IMO, they've got npthing to worry about.

First off: I'm a vegetarian who can't eat wheat, who lived in Chicago's Pilsen neighbourhood for 8 years. From that perspective, Taqueria Juanitos was underwhelming. I visited after finally noticing that they advertise vegetarian "something" on their exterior. Apparently burritos: not tacos. Yet they humored me by making me three avacodo tacos. Props for that. Except the tacos were served open face, on tiny (~4'') tortillas that hadn't quite been heated long enough. Basically a mess of ingredients in a styrofoam container. I've definitely eaten much better cheap, authentic Mexican food - but this wasn't awful or anything. Meat and wheat eaters might be more pleased than I was.

This has to be my favorite taqueria in Tucson! Everything is always fresh and delicious! I just had a Vegetarian Tostada and a Cheese Quesadilla for lunch, and I could not be more satisfied! This place is highly recommended if you want some genuine Mexican food!

Great place for a simple Mexican/Sonoran meal. Nothing fancy, but the meat is tasty and juicy. I'm not a fan of the bean texture nor am I a fan of the prices for fountain drinks. Plus, you don't get a refill, you have to pay for the whole soda again. However, for a simple carne asada or barbaquoa burro, this is the spot.

O.M.G. the bestest! Best shredded chicken tacos, best ceviche and just yumm. Cheap, excellent drippy yummy seasoned just right with a slap in your face of cilantro deliciousness.

10/10 THE BEST CARNE ASADE TACOS IN ARIZONA!! You will not find anything better unless you're in Rocky Point. These are the best of the best. Not that chewy beef everywhere else serves. This is the real thing!!

Friendly staff. Large restaurant with more than enough seating for... the only customer on a Saturday at 6pm. Looks like a full service restaurant from the outside, but inside appears as a scaled down taqueria. Limited menu. I tried the vegetarian burrito. They advertise no lard, but the rice tasted like chicken stock. This was the dominant flavor of the burro . I do like that they used a substantial amount of avocado. Not bad, but unmemorable. The salsa was a little thin. Again, not bad but unmemorable. Seating was uncomfortable. High tables and low padded benches that you sink into. Leaves the elbows at an uncomfortable angle. With Guero Canelo a block away, it's unlikely I'll be returning. That's probably where all their Saturday business has migrated. This shop just isn't competitive in pricing or quality.

Yum, yum, yummy. My mouth waters just thinking about the food here. The vegetarian burrito, sans lettuce, is fantastic. I swear they put an entire avocado in this thing. Add some green salsa and eat it with jalapenos and my oh my. The hubby loves the carne asada burrito, and you can't go wrong with a taco plate. The beans are the best I've had in town. If you are looking for some down home mex you've got to check this place out.

They serve same dishes as every other Sonoran place in town, but there's something different about this place. I see people raving about the meat, but the vegetarian burro is one of the better ones in town.

No frills hole in the wall REAL Mexican place. Their carne asada is well seasoned and the al pastor is to die for! The street tacos are only $1.35. We had 4 each. I don't like rice and beans much so I skipped them. Everything else on the menu looked freaking delicious. Cheap, fast and very good!

Mmmm, a non-southside taqueria that does the job for me when I don't want a taco or Sonoran dog but crave Mexican food. In fact, I pretty much like every place in Tucson that has "taqueria" in the name. Juanitos reminds me of a cafeteria in Mexico - it has purple booth seats and wall murals. As I was dining, the "cheese guy" came in to sell them homemade cheese. Even though there were not any other diners when I ate, the food was still delicious and amazing. I ordered a torta, and it reminded me of a Vietnamese sandwich in a way. The green salsa had a vibrant kick to it and the jalapenos had a tasty brine. I liked the taste of the toast, cilantro, and avocado all together. It was a great combination of flavors. My torta and drink total was $5.60. I definitely like Taqueria Juanitos and can't wait to try their cheese next time.

Great carne asada sandwich... Small, family owned restaurant makes for a great atmosphere.

Lovely! Comfortable, casual atmosphere, great prices, and wonderful food. I have never been disappointed by Taqueria Juanitos. As someone else mentioned, there is a little more gristle on the carne asada than I prefer, but for $1.50 or so apiece, you are definitely getting what you pay for. Additionally, the restaurant is very clean, has a number of different hot sauces available on the tables as well as 2 different homemade ones, and plenty of seating and parking.

You will dig the friendly staff, the cheap price point, and the timeless Halloween decorations on the windows--there are a lot of things to like about Taqueria Juanitos. The atmosphere has the unforgiving florescent light, blank walls, and heavily illustrated menu characteristic of taquerias that care more about food than frippery. Images can be a little deceiving though and, while the food was solidly okay, Juanitos isn't a diamond in the rough. The barbacoa burrito had an excellent tortilla and reasonably well-prepared meat, but the ensemble was salty and the seasonings were weak compared to the heavenly image of Barbacoa that we all dream of. The al pastor plate was a little lower on the sodium scale and combined a decent flavor with a truly generous pile of avocado slices. Not the most memorable dish, but any restaurant that isn't stingy with avocado deserves points. Both their red and green salsas appeared to be homemade, but their mild flavors failed to make much of an impression on the rich food. Juanitos should be a 3.5--it's not a 4, but is good enough to warrant further exploration.

This was a tasty stop for us! We stopped here while driving through Tucson based on the Yelp reviews. Really liked the green chile salsa- great flavor. We had marinated pork tacos, a vegetarian tostada and the beef head platter. Good stuff!

Best chicken tacos in town... juicy and flavorful shredded chicken, onions, cilantro, and green salsa. I love, love, love these! Also good are the veggie tostada and the ceviche. We often get a big batch of the chicken tacos as carryout for parties, and it's always a bit hit. Yum, yum, yum, yum.

Delicious food at a very reasonable price. The simple street style tacos are my favorite thing on the menu. You really can't beat the flavor, especially since they only cost a little over a $1 per taco. I have never had anything here that I didn't enjoy. We usually get the food to go, because the seating is a little uncomfortable, but don't let that deter you. The food at Juanitos is far better than most of the other Mexican food restaurants in Tucson. Lard-free and still delicious, what more could you ask for?

Best carne asada tacos in town. Hands down, not even close. Blows GC out of the water. I don't understand why Mexican food places in Tucson (or Arizona for that matter) don't believe in putting onions and cilantro on their tacos or in their burritos. That is the only way to go.

this place is by far my favorite taqueria in tucson! i find it is hard to limit myself to one item. (+) they have no lard refried beans that are sublime. the veggie burro and veggie tostada are absolute tops. (-) the soft drinks are no good, and i really hate eating off of styrofoam plates.

Yes! Go here!! This place is really good. It's a little out of the way, but they have good carne asada, and good quesadillas, burros, etc... Pretty authentic. Order at the window, food is ready in no time. People are very friendly. CASH ONLY! (Used to be, now they take cards.) Cheap.

Great burritos - the veg option doesn't have any flares, but does me right. Big portions, quality ingredients, authentic, good value. Ask for extra salsa on the side when you order. My brother swears by this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
