I gave the Taco Giro on 22nd Street four stars, and as you can see I am giving this one five stars. The difference is that this one is more spacious and modern than the other one. The food is just as amazing. No matter which location I am at, I will surely enjoy the food on my plate. Hopefully soon I can try the third location near downtown. Crab enchiladas!? You can't find them at a lot of places. Give it a shot if you have a craving for the seafood/Mexican fix. Also, Saturday nights features a keyboard player! Bring your family and/or friends to this location and you'll have a great time. Service was great and the food came out warm and quick. The servers still don't know enough English like the other location so it can get slightly awkward creating small talk with the employees. Still, they are very nice and friendly!

We just stumbled upon this place and was very pleased. We sat at the bar and the bartender put on the AZ game for us. We got a col of drinks. Chips and salsa was great, but the Pasole was over the top. It was fulll of pork and flavor. The tortillas are definately just made. The staff hear is very friendly and on top of everything. We will definitely be back for the fish.

Taco Tuesday Fish Taco is the best food deal in Tucson or Marana, bar none. Called ahead 15 minutes paid $3.25 for 3 fish tacos with chips, salsa, limes waiting to pickup on arrival. Not Taco Fish quality fish but actually very delicious and well done with pico de gallo and tasty sauce.Northwest folks better be all over this deal so it continues.

Taco Giro was a pleasant surprise! We were headed for another Mexican restaurant further west when we spied the sign for Taco Giro and decided to give it a try. We are glad we did! Along with the complimentary chips, we received a bean dip and an empty bowl to take to the salsa bar. Not only did we find a variety of salsas including a habanero based blow your head off one, but the bar also offered cut veggies including roasted jalapeños to munch on while we waited for our food. I ordered a combo plate with a beef taco and a chile relleno. The portion sizes are huge. My chile was over 6" long. The rice and beans were tasty but common. My beef taco was superb. The beef almost melted in my mouth. We ordered a side of sour cream and instead of arriving in a tiny cup, it arrived on a saucer. It was enough to share between us and the other half of the restaurant. My husband ordered the taco, chile relleno and enchilada combo. He all but licked the plate. He's from New Mexico, so he's slightly picky about his chile and he loved his meal. The service was attentive and our food arrived promptly. We were also serenaded by a wonderful gentleman playing Mexican songs on a keyboard. It was lovely. We will definitely be back!!

First thing we noticed was the odor as soon as you walked in the door----smelled like the rags/mops they used for cleaning were sour and dirty. I can get past the bad decor and the fluorescent lighting. Chips seemed to be the Costco brand, bean dip that came the 1st time was thick.---- 2nd time runny and unappetizing. All 5 of us thought that ate the food was extremely bland. You have to dump salsa on everything to get any taste. I had the chicken chimi --- that contained boiled, tasteless and dry chicken. Guacamole that came on the side was runny and not flavorful at all. Avoid this place all together.

  • Jr K.

Nothing special! I ordered a chicken chimi and requested enchilada style, I got a burrito not a fried chimi. It was still alright but the chicken inside was extremely dry. I really like the salsa bar where you can choose different items. It is worth another try.

Chile Rellenos and Enchiladas were so good!! I didn't know there was a salsa bar until we were paying. Next time I go I'll definitely have some of the salsa bar for appetizers.

I really love their fish taco Tuesday's ($0.99!) and their bean dip. My husband wasn't a fan of their chimi, he said the meat was a little too chewy. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I've only ever eaten the fish tacos and they've always been tasty! They have a nice little salsa bar for you to pick and choose your own.

This is the best of the 2 places ........ that I have gone. IT IS SUPERB FOOD. The bean dip with chips, all the fresh salsas - oh yummm. The Jimica and Horchata drinks were among the best I have ever had. The fish taco dinner was excellent. Oddly the southern place is just not as good, you would think they have all the same recipes..... oh well.

We were waited on quickly and provided a bowl of warm taco chips with a bowl of refried beans or at least that is what it tasted like. The server left an extra bowl on the table but we didn't know until later what it was for. We had never been here before and it would have been nice if our server would have told us a few things about the place. That said, our server appeared not to understand English very well and had difficulty communicating in English with us. The kids ordered the quesadilla and a cheese enchilada which was not brought out initially until we reminded the server we had ordered it. My wife ordered what she thought was a shrimp cocktail. She asked the server if the picture was a shrimp cocktail and she said yes. It did have shrimp in it but also pieces of avocado's, tomatoes, onions, and lots of liquid. It looked like a bowl of soup. It was served with crackers. She picked out the shrimp and left the rest and said she would not order it again. The kids ate their quesadillas and said they were okay, kind of hard to mess up a cheese quesadilla so that didn't impress me very much. Then we found out when we asked for more chips and some salsa that in another part of the room behind a wall was a salsa bar. That was what the extra bowl was for. The salsa bar had several versions of salsa, chopped avocados, onions, and a few other things but nothing was marked so we could not tell what some of them were. I ordered the two cheese enchiladas combination. I asked the server if it came with the traditional choice of red sauce or green chili sauce. She seemed confused at first but I asked for the red sauce. What I got was a brownish yellow sauce. I could not figure out what this sauce was supposed to be. It tasted ok and I ate all of it but it was not what I preferred or ordered. The cost of two adults and two kids to eat was over $50.00 which was way too expensive for what we got and the quality of what we got. We will not return to this restaurant. My wife said the bathroom was cool. The toilet was painted in bright colors with a slice of watermelon drawn on the floor.

Amazing how many people liked this place or the food. Service was worst I ever had. Food took forever and the place is dead. I live super close maybe 2 miles from this place and love trying a new place. Never seen it packed. Ordered a normal chicken burrito and it was soggy and leaking everywhere just as greasy mess. When everything I order I'd consider high for Mexican food in Tucson to have such poor quality is unacceptable. Wife didn't like her plate don't remember what she had. Will never be back and it should have been a red flag when one 2 tables were seated and they didn't look happy either.

Great location and great Mexican food for the Northwest side of town by far the best in the area.

My boyfriend loves this place for its amazing happy hour prices and the prices on the menu are decent. We really do like everything about this place. They have a salsa bar, amazing enchiladas, burritos and drink prices. The margaritas are amazing too! The decor is a but crazy but I like it and the staff is very welcoming. The only thing that I would say is the rice is boring. Other than that we love it and will return!

  • Maritza M.

I had an awful experience. The food had a spoiled smell and they exchanged it twice. The server Laura was very rude and said it must be me. It smelled like spoiled fish. I asked if they kept the shrimp in the fridge and she said no. Then she said yes. I asked for the manager and there was none on duty. So reluctantly she gave me the name and phone number of the off duty manager and yellled that I better not call him because it was his day off. Then when I was paying she said I told you not to call him you got me in trouble. I emphasized that I was not rude to her so she should not be rude to me and that I did not want to risk to get food poisoning. I asked for the owner's name and she would not provide it. Another waiter noticed and I was able to get the info from him. Stay away. Go to the one on Grande.

Food was great. Device was good. They messed up my order for my chimichanga and put ground meat instead of shredded beef. The cook made me another one right away! Gotta try their enchilada sauce! Amazing!

We have eaten here many times and everything is fantastic. Monday is 99 cent pork tacos, Tuesdays is 99 cent fish tacos. Their $5.99 lunch specials are awesome as well. I especially love their wet burritos and fajitas. Some of the best Mexican in Tucson, never had a bad meal. The ham steak breakfast is fantastic too!

Not awful, but with some of the other options nearby unlikely that we'll be coming back. Our server was nice, and the food was ok. The salsa bar is nice but the chips were stale.

  • Daniella S.

Horrible service. Lucia was rude and slow. Didn't offer special or help with any suggestions. She up sold the ceviche without letting us know it was way more pricy. Food was ok, but not good for the price. So disappointed

GREAT TACOS AND DESSERTS BRING THE KIDS!!( if you want that is lol) Just came here for the first time! Was happily surprised. I liked the chicken tacos & used the salsa bar for some cilantro/onion mix & pico De Gallo. My husband liked shredded pork- beware supper juicy so supper messy! Place is clean! We ate outside I was also happy the tables were clean:) The girl behind the counter was really helpful with our questions seeing as how we were newbies! So stuffed were taking leftovers home! WE WILL RETURN!

Nothing special about this place. The food is OK, not fantastic enough for the 'WOW' factor. Outstanding customer service though. Very warm.

This was the first time going to this restaurant and I was pretty good. The prices were fair and the food was good. The drinks were really good too, my girlfriend got a michelanda and she loved it. I had the breakfast burrito and my dad got a bowl of the menudo. The wait staff were attentive and answered all our questions with accuracy. I read the first review and didnt understand why they gave this place a one star. Being raised in Arizona and understanding that beef tamales DO have olives in them and my mom always said to be careful because some of them might still have the pits in them. The food of this place is good and the seafood seemed fresh although.

    (4)
  • Sam B.

The place reminded me of a converted strip club. The lack of windows should have been our first clue but the walls were cleverly disguised with hand painted pictures of chickens and conquisitadors. Our meals were chili relleno and a chicken enchilida. The chicken was dry and the rellenos was breaded with a mungie-cake hamburger bun. The unsweetened ice tea was excellent...so if you are thirsty in the desert stop in to get the perfect iced tea!

There are a plenty of great places to get great Tacos in Tucson, this is not one of them. My tacos were one star taste, five star portions though. If you aren't a Border state native or don't have tastebuds that work, you may like this place. Otherwise steer clear

  • Hannah S.

Just had their fish tacos. Oh. My. Goodness. Best $2 meal I've ever had. The fish is fried perfectly and isn't overwhelming. The bean dip they give you is delicious. I actually mixed a teeny bit with my son's baby food. He loved it. We'll be coming back for sure.

  • Adelina M.

Loved the original location downtown and was happy to have one open on the north side. Same menu, unique decor, reasonable prices and yummy food! Reasonable lunch and happy hour specials. Coming back to try their 99 cent fish taco Tuesday's! I recommend breakfast, lunch or dinner!

  • Chelsea J.

I've been to this location 2 times, and ordered the shrimp tacos. The first time I ordered them they came out differently than the second. However they were yummy both times. The inside of the restaurant is really strange, with no windows in the main dining room, there also wasn't any music playing. They have a salsa bar which I'm not really a fan of. I saw some guy take his empty cup of salsa back to the bar to refill, after he'd eaten out of it, gross! I think they need to put a sign up saying not to do that! They also don't even tell you they have a salsa bar, so now you know!

The service was good, the price was good but the food was not great. I would go back for drink specials but prob not to eat.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
