This is my favorite Chinese food in town. I am from out of town and had the hardest time finding Chinese food after Lucky's closed :( I really don't understand all the negative reviews. My husband an I get chow mein, fried rice and a chicken dish. This place has not disappointed yet!

This place is beyond awful! I placed an order for delivery through grub hub. I expected to wait for at least an hour according to their estimate. Well I waited for over an hour before calling only to be told that my food was on its way. At this point I'm not sure I want food that's been sitting in someone's car for this long. So I call back to cancel my order all together and at that time I was informed that my food was in the kitchen. I can't believe people run business like this. I will never eat here!!!! Only positive is that the refund was fast. Otherwise this place is a dump! Don't bother eating your time or money!!!

Used GrubHub to order from Szechuan Omei for delivery. The Good: order was here quickly. The delivery guy was friendly. (Thanks Xavier!) The Bad: the meal was supposed to come with steamed rice. In fact, each entree was supposed to come with steamed rice. We ordered 4 entrees. There was no steamed rice. Ordered green beans. They called me to tell me they were out (which I appreciated), so I ordered another vegetable dish, a mixture. Everything was rather slimy and the mushrooms were obviously canned rather than fresh. No flavor. I ordered my favorite Orange Chicken. The chicken was so tough it was difficult to bite and chew. Clearly the chicken had been microwaved, and for way too long. Inedible. The sauce came in a separate cup. This dish is much more satisfying when it is finished with the sauce the last minute or so of cooking. It's all about flavor and texture. The orange chicken had none of the former and too much of the latter. The fortune cookies were the best part of the meal... Leftovers are going in the trash. Will stick with Old Peking across the street. . . . edit: a few days later, we ordered from Old Peking using Eat Street. Like night and day.

After ordering delivery from this place 3 more times, I have to change my rating due to inconsistent and careless service that seems to escalate with each delivery order. Long description: The 2nd attempt went smoothly. Ordered two lunch specials that came out fine - Northern Style Vegetables, Bean Curd Family Style Lunch, and Vegetarian Egg Rolls. On the 3rd attempt, they didn't get my order right (Sizzling Vegetables with Crispy Rice.) The re-delivery took over an hour, which was painfully long. It may have been the hunger talking, but I enjoyed it - it was worth the wait to try their stir fried tofu and Shitake mushrooms. I figured this unfortunate experience was an anomaly, so I brushed it off. On the 4th attempt (tonight), I ordered the Sizzling Vegetables again. Upon arrival, I noticed that it was not the same dish that I had before. On the website, I expected "Stir fried bean curd with fresh crunchy snow peas, mushrooms, black mushrooms, celery, carrots, and baby corn. Served with golden, sizzling rice. A Chef's Recommendation!" like before. However, I received soft tofu instead of the bean curd....with no Shitake mushrooms present at all. It pains me to write this review because I had such high hopes for this place. Not worth the stress.

Never again! This is just how our dinner was delivered. This is what $24 gets you here! Or rather $28:order egg rolls(tiny), order crab puffs and 1 dumped over chick chop suet. Main dish's sauce is all over the OPENED container.... No condiments (i.e. sweet-n-sour for the tiny egg rolls and crab puffs)....... and......yes, was delivered exactly as you see! Handed over box by box. Apparently it took a tumble in the delivery car, but then you should go back and regroup. Terrible! On a fair note, the driver did offer to bring back some sweet and sour ssuce.....? Ummmmmmm.....no thanks, we'll just order pizza!

My family has been coming to this restaurant since it was run by Magdalene Gerrish in the 1980's (wow I'm old). Now, I live in Sam Hughes and it's close to the house so it's been my first choice for good Chinese for the last three years. And the quality has been great up until recently. The service and the food quality has been REALLY disappointing. Took the family and the service was so bad and the food so mediocre that we promised not to be back. I'm mad we wasted our money there. There's been a management change and it's sadly apparent for all the wrong reasons. The main seating area is now being used as a storage/office area as well as the place you pay to eat. The food tastes incredibly ... average. If you can't do a basic egg flower soup that tastes good then how can I believe you can do something more difficult??? And our server was just RUDE. She was obviously bothered by us wanting to place our orders and needing drinks. We couldn't get much attention after we got our food. But by then we were kinda over it all anyway and just wanted to go. So we did. And we won't be back. I'm sad.

I've been here several times and despite trying my best to love them, I just can't give them more than three stars. The food is better than many Chinese restaurants in Tucson, but you really don't get much food for the price. This is particularly true of the lunch specials. You may as well order off the regular menu as the amount of food you receive with the lunch specials can't fill a small child. The staff is always nice and if you order takeout, they are fairly fast.

It's been awhile. Still good but the place is so run down. The bathrooms are scary. I'd probably go with 3.5 stars, 4 stars for take out.

Well I tried. I've eaten here a few times in person and the food is good for American chinese. Nothing spectacular and nothing inedible. Tonight though is worth a thousand words. We are currently sitting on hour 2 of waiting for delivery. This is my first time ordering delivery but it's been very bad. I called an hour after my promised time (online order) to see the status, and they had run into some issue where the order never got made. Then they quoted me 20 minutes and it's been another 60. Props to the man I spoke to though who said Id get a refund. In summary, eat there in person? Sure. Order for delivery? Never again unless I want to wait over 2 hours thinking food was on the way, and the no food ever shows up.

I don't get it. We've eaten here for a long time but recently it has gone downhill. The last time we ordered take home, hubby's was fine but my sweet/sour chicken was nothing but breading. The rice was cold as well. I thought it might have been a fluke. Nope. Tonight, we ordered online through eat street. 30 minutes, hubby heads over to pick up our order. They hadn't even looked at the online orders and told hubs it would be 20 minutes or so for them to cook it. No thanks. He cancelled. After reading some of the recent reviews, it's apparent that this place has gone down hill. Fast. It's too bad. We were looking forward to them getting their patio finished. I guess we'll have to find a new go to Chinese place.

I had to try the sesame chicken that everyone raves about, and it had a good flavor and fried very well leaving it with the perfect crunch/chew. I made a mistake of substituting the rice for fried rice, because it tastes like plain white rice to me. However, the provided soy sauce made it a lot better. Lastly, my worst mistake of all. I had a craving for bbq ribs so I got the bbq spare ribs. I'm not sure how good bbq usually is at a Chinese restaurant, but this was so much worse than my already low expectation. Imagine ribs marinated in that cherry cough medicine your mom had to force down your throat and then baked in the oven. The latter can produce good ribs every now and then, but my god that flavor was horrible enough to make me put down the fork after one bite. They look delicious, but avoid the ribs AT ALL COSTS!

I had some Szechuan Omei carry-out brought to me while staying in the nearby hospital (the hospital's food has gotten dramatically worse in the last few months; that's a whole 'nother review). Well, it was a disappointment. Each dish was low on flavor. The hot and sour soup was extremely thick, like they loaded way up on some kind of thickener. I couldn't even finish it. This is generally my favorite kind of soup at a chinese restaurant. The fried rice that came with the lunch special was weak. I saw some eggy bits in there, but nothing else. It was flavorless and mushy. The special also came with what appeared to be two large fried wontons already pre-coated in sweet and sour sauce, so they were soggy and gross in the 5 minutes it took my father to get them to me. My Mongolian beef had a good amount of beef, but very little flavor. It was also covered in crispy cellophane noodles that were also kind of gross. Luckily, I was already in the hospital. This is not the sort of place I would eat a second time.

NO Customer Service! I had ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch Special with an extra Egg Soup. First of all, they forgot my extra Egg Soup I had ordered. Then when I opened the box, I found "chicken," but it was ALL breading! There was NO chicken! I called to say where my chicken is and the "manager" and I argued for 5 minutes saying that there was chicken. She had such a terrible attitude! I would NEVER eat at this restaurant again and do NOT recommend it!

The sesame chicken was fantastic. Their food is unbeatable! Great casual setting for lunch. The waitress was very kind & friendly. (Just avoid the restroom while you're there-- dirty)

  • M. L.

Their veggie chow mein cannot be beat. It's delicious and fresh and ohhhhh so good. Their vegetable spring rolls? Gross. Skip them. The crab puffs though--holy crap! So good it'll knock your socks off.

Just sad. We wanted to like this place but it just failed on so many levels. Initially I waited with my husband inside the restaurant for 45 min to get two entrees to go. The atmosphere is an afterthought; the worst feature being the makeshift "office desk" that sits in the middle of the dining room complete with a computer, fax machine and printer. When the servers aren't answering phone calls next to tables and printing out orders they are ignoring you. It was sad how "busy" they seemed to be for such a small presence in the restaurant but for the lack of service I just couldn't justify their efforts. To make it even more awkward the only place to wait for our food was in two small chairs directly below the serving window; we felt like we shouldn't of been there when a server reached over our heads for straws then told us she was "sorry because we were sitting in her station" as if we were the problem. When we did receive our food there was no apology for the wait. We got home and my kung pao chicken I ordered consisted of a brown-ish chicken with large pieces of celery sprinkled with peanuts. The entire dish tasted of celery. My husbands noodle mein dish was depressingly unflavored; Just grease city. We were so hungry we just ate it. Please avoid this place until they start paying attention the needs of their establishment

Ordered my food to be delivered on campus. My food was delivered in 20mins!Good are fresh and hot. I didn't expect the delivery can be that fast coz last time I order my food at my friends apt at 22th St. Waited for 1h. Probably the time for delivery time depends on the location. Recommend orange ck, fry wings, and pot sticker.

I wanted to like them, but my experience wasn't that great. I'm bumping my review up a star, though, because they had pretty good customer service for me, and they tried to make it right. I ordered online through a service called eatstreet (a mistake I probably won't make again), and the estimated delivery time was 45-60 minutes, so I thought cool, okay, I can wait that long. After 75 minutes, I called the restaurant to check on my order, and they said that they remembered seeing my name, so they found my order and sent it out the door for delivery right away. 45 minutes later (two hours total...), my food arrived. Not even warm, let alone hot, and one of the containers had accidentally opened during the drive, and it spilled liquid allllllll over the bag, and into the veggie egg rolls, making them kind of soggy. I heated it up, and it tasted alright (the veggie egg rolls were pretty good, actually, despite being soggy), but I was disappointed. Especially because delivery took twice as long as it should have. That being said, they apologized and tried to make it right, so I have to give props to them for their customer service.

I don't even know where to begin on all the bad things I have to say about this restaurant The food is called the service was terrible and the waitress added her own tip on to my credit card receipt I used to use her as a child with my mother and all I can say is that the service has done a complete 180 and so has the food I do not recommend eating here go to panda express it's better

Although I only give this place three stars, it is above and beyond the best delivery Chinese food available near the University area. I love their lettuce wraps, war wonton soup, and moo shu vegetables. Warning, the lettuce wraps, while flavorful, are extremely oily. The wonton soup contains all the ingredients I expected, and the dumplings were not overcooked, unusual for delivery soup. The ingredients are fresh and the service is dependable. The Mongolian beef is another spicy, greasy, delicious option. The vegetarian egg rolls are great, light and not oily. My husband loves the general tso's chicken, which is fried and surprisingly not too sweet. The orange chicken however tastes like corn syrup with a few bits of orange peel, and the koh-tei is disappointingly bland. Although it's not a good as the newer Szechuan restaurants in town, it has my favorite war wonton soup in town, and it's preferable to the delivery alternatives.

sweet and sour chicken- pretty pretty good! their chicken pieces are HUGE and their egg rolls are surprisingly awesome as well. for the chicken they put the veggies and sauce on the side which is great BUT I asked for extra pineapple.. and got 4 pieces..hardly extra :-( other than that, timely delivery, reasonable prices, I give it 4 stars. *pic of SS chicken w/ egg roll (separate)

Please please do NOT GO HERE! First the food was not good at all, had no flavor and the chicken was hardly tasty. Could not eat half of it. It tasted like the chicken was just fried and sauce poured over. I asked for Fried Rice and the Rice was just plain and not the typical Fried Rice and had no Eggs. Imagine Fried Rice with no Eggs? The food was the least of my concern. Even though I was the only customer in the dining room, the wait staff did not care about what I witnessed at this place. First, there was a young man helping with the utensils and he went behind the bar area and I saw him blow his nose. He did NOT wash his hands. I was quite in disbelief. Then he proceeded to wrap the utensils and he dropped a spoon and picked it right back up and wrapped it. Imagine my shock!!! By this time I have had enough and I called the waitress and asked if this young man has a Food Handler's permit. Her response was he did NOT, but she was certified. At this point because of my volume, the young man said he used hand sanitizer after he blew his nose. I was again quite shocked because if you know anything about handling food, you know hand sanitizer will not replace warm water and soap. The owner was sitting in the restaurant eating a Jimmy John's sub sandwich and was not even supervising this young man. After my complaint, the owner apologized and gave a weak excuse saying the guy was new. I told him that the practices at his place is going to make people sick and I am concerned. Will never visit this place again!!!

Do not eat here! I don't know how they're still in business. It's double the price of Panda Express and not even close to as good. This is the worst Chinese in Tucson. Just trust me.

Omei is a new place to have authentic Sichuan style food in Tucson. This place used to be "famous" among Chinese students for its Americanized Chinese food. As a Chinese, I would not consider dining here before because I did not want to have orange chicken. However, a friend told me the other day that they hired a new chef who was good at real Sichuan style food. We went there yesterday night to give it a try. We used the Chinese menu and ordered one cold dish (Ox lungs in chili sauce,i.e., Fuqi feiqian), two Sichuan "snacks" (Wanton in red oil, i.e., Hongyou chaoshou, and Hot and sour rice noodles, i.e., Suanla fen), as well as three hot dishes (Water-boiled fish, Kungpao chicken, and Pork Intestines). ALL of them were authentic and VERY tasty. The prices are a little bit higher than the prices in Old Peking and Chinese Szechuan, but every penny worth it. We will definitely come back. Tips: the Sichuan chef does not work on Monday noon.

This place used to be my go to Chinese restaurant; not anymore. The past few times have been nothing but disappointing. I order through grub hub and every time they have either lost my order, not started my order, or for some other reason it takes forever. At one point I waited for my to go order for two hours from the time I initially ordered it! I have loved this place for the past four years living in Tucson, but sadly now I have to look elsewhere.

oh my god, I love their sesame chicken a lot!!! The chicken is very crispy and very thin. I wonder how they make it so thin! so that I dont need to chew on the thick hard chicken breast. It taste like crispy chips. And the sauce with a little bit sour makes it the best taste over all. I like the texture and the taste. The second dish is chicken with green bean, there are plenty chicken and green bean in one order. The green bean is soft and tasty. I went with my friend both of us were very full. We ordered veg egg roll and crab puff for appetizer. I love the veg egg roll better then pork egg roll. Even though it is deep fried but it is not greasy at all. Their crab puff has the best taste in Tucson restaurants. I have been to several Chinese restaurant, none of their crab puffs taste as good as this restaurant. they must add some special taste in it. The server is very nice. The food come out quick and complete. I have been in Tucson for six years. I never been to this restaurant before. I always pass by but never want to go in because of the ugly sign out there. However, I am very regret to not give it a try when I first know this restaurant. I have been looking for a really good Chinese restaurant for years now I finally found it. Here will be my regular dine in place from now on. And the waitress told me that they will have patio soon. I am very looking forward to see that. But please, if the owner see my review please change the design of the sign out there it is very hard to see the restaurant's name or any information. the characters are hard to recognize. other than the sign, i have nothing else to say about this restaurant. my friend and I had a good time.

Not a fan. 3 of us dined IN on a Tuesday night. We were the only patrons. The service was fine. We ordered 2 drinks and 3 entrees to share. The boys each ordered cups of wonton soup to start, I went without. But they said they were good. I have to admit, I was not expecting any great, but Chinese food like this is expected to fill a craving for somewhat greasy, soy sauce heavy protein and veggies over rice. However, I didn't eat more than a few bites. This is the first time there was cooked celery in each entree, that's weird. Super sad since its nearby, but I'm not a fan, even for cheap Chinese food.

I wish that I could give this place ZERO stars. I placed my order around 8:30pm and after an hour of nothing I called to double check my order went through since i had placed it online. The money had also been removed from my bank account. The person whom I spoke with told me my order was on its way. As it became 10:00pm and an hour after they closed I knew something was wrong. I called again and they told me they DID NOT HAVE MY ORDER. So the woman on the phone had lied to be bold faced when I called the first time. I will NEVER do business with this place ever and I recommend you don't either.

Happily I am returning Szechuan Omei to 4 stars! We ordered last night and the food was the same high quality that we have been used to for years. The Mongolian Beef was very tender and they've apparently went back to their previous, spicy, heat-filled sauce! The Vegetable Foo Young was in clamshell containers this time, which we greatly appreciated. Usually, we tear the patties apart trying to get them out of the classic container! They were well sauced and full of veggies. My daughters enjoyed the Lo Mein noodles as always and the Hot and Sour soup is still our favorite in Tucson. We had a coupon for a free order of Crab Puffs which were delicious. They have started adding more green onion to the filling which made them better than ever. We originally ordered delivery, but after being given an hour wait time, we picked it up in 15 minutes. The service didn't seem as friendly or competent as usual, which is why I didn't give a full 5 stars. All in all, we are so happy that our favorite Chinese place has regrouped and brought the quality back.

May be Tucson's best choice for Chinese. I like the Hot and Sour soup, Walnut Shrimp and House Appetizer Sampler. Food is fast and fresh. My wife gets the potstickers and never shares with me. Good place for a fast meal before a U of A game.

Got the Mongolian Beef special with egg roles, fried shrimp and wanton soup and everything was delicious and left stuffed. My waitress was extremely attentive and nice. Great place and definitely will be back.

I've eaten here before but it was take out last night my daughter and I went to go have some ware wonton soup...when the soup came out it was probably room temperature... And the ingredients in the soup were so mushy ...almost like it had been in the fridge then microwaved :( not good. Then half way thru the meal she brings me the check and says do u need a container for your soup or are you gonna sit here and eat it slow? Really? Wow. I will never return a waste of 20 dollars!!!

After driving by this place many, many times while commuting, I finally stopped by with my family for lunch to try their food. They have a rather large menu, with 125 various dishes and appetizers. They also have a large selection of lunch dishes for only $5.95. Since I was with a group, we ordered the regular sized dishes and shared them between us. The staff was very friendly, and the dining area was well maintained. They also have a small board highlighting the specials for the day. To start off our lunch, we had the Szechuan Hot and Sour Soup. I liked this soup a lot. It has a very strong flavor with a little bit of sourness to mellow out the spice. I didn't find the soup very spicy but it definitely had a good flavor to it. The soup contains pork, bamboo, tofu and mushrooms. The next dish we ordered was the Szechuan shrimp with garlic sauce. This was my favorite dish out of them all. Its stir fried shrimp in a garlic and pepper sauce tossed with snow peas. This dish had a small spicy bite to it, but the real taste comes from the garlic sauce. It is very distinct and very flavorful. The snow peas add a nice crisp texture to tender shrimp. The second dish we tried was the Singapore Mei Fun. This dish consist of stir fried vermicelli noodles with pork, shrimp, bean sprouts and onions in a curry sauce. This dish was good, however, I would have preferred for this dish to have more of a curry flavor. In addition, the dish was marked as spicy, but I honestly didn't taste any chili in it as compared to other Singapore noodles I've had. The dish was still good overall. The third dish we tried was their General Tso's Chicken. For those that haven't had Tso's chicken before, it is most comparable to a sweet and sour type dish but without the sweetness. This dish has a little bit of spice back up by a very tangy sauce. The chicken is cut into small pieces and fried. The sauce it served on top with chopped green onions. The last dish we tried was their curry vegetables. This was basically a mixed vegetable stir fry(with onions, peas, bamboo shoots, carrots, sprouts etc) tossed in a curry sauce. Like the Singapore noodle, I wish it would have had more curry in the dish. While you could definitely taste the curry in the vegetables, it wasn't as distinct as I would expect from a curry type dish. I've uploaded some pictures of the dishes we had to give readers a better look at what some of the dishes look like. I forgot to take of the Hot and Sour soup unfortunately. For my first time here I enjoyed the food immensely. My only recommendation to future patrons and the management here would be to ask about the levels of spice for each dish. I personally would have preferred for the dishes to be spicier and have more curry in them then what was normally served. I'll have to remember to ask them about that option the next time I visit. Overall, I would definitely dine here again.

Hungry go where ?! Szechuan Omei for sure. Was there a few days ago. FINALLY found good Chinese in Tucson! New fave place. The rice was cooked perfectly, hot yummy tea, and good service. We had shrimp and veggie dish, Gen Tsos chicken, veggie egg rolls. So good. This is now my goto. We lost Lucky a few years ago, and while they weren't perfect, they were pretty darn good. Since then I've tried three different places (going back several times to check out different dishes and hours). No luck. Thank you Omei.

After waiting more than an hour for my dinner tonight, I called to cancel the order. The young man that answered the phone was quite glib about it and told me to contact eatstreet and that it was out of his control where the delivery driver was. I asked him if he cared and he flat out said that he didn't. I asked him for his name and he said good night and hung up. When the food arrived, it was spilling out of its container. An hour and twenty minutes it took on a Monday night. Needless to say, I wont be ordering from here again. I've never had this problem with them before, but the service has gone down hill.

It's so sad that the incompetent staff have to always make every visit here difficult. I have never experienced good service or speedy delivery when ordering from here. Delivery usually takes over an hour, and you can expect to wait just as long if you do take out. Why does this place get three stars though? Why do I keep torturing myself knowing my food will take over an hour to be prepared? Because it's really, really good food. Like, really good. Plan your dinners way in advanced because it takes forever, but once you get your food, you will brush off the crappy service and enjoy really good chinese food.

THIS ESTABLISHMENT WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY BE AWARE!!! 0 STARS, WORST COSTUMER SERVICE. I ordered on 8/1/14. My order was 2 hours late. I called in at 6, and called them at 7:30 when my driver was an hour and half late. I was told the driver had already left and he would be here asap. 8:00 rolls around, still no food. I call and they are surprised I'm still waiting for my food. I was told that I would get 15% back, so I waited patiently. I check my bank statement to see if my money was returned. INSTEAD THEY STOLE MY MONEY. The driver wrote himself a 6 dollar tip and forged my total of 20.15 into 26.15. I was never compensated the 15%. When I called, I was given a weak promise of my money back, and that it would take a few days. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT THEY WILL FORGE YOUR RECEIPTS AND STEAL. if you do, PAY WITH CASH. YOUR CARD INFORMATION IS NOT SAFE HERE!!!

By far the worst place I've ordered from. I placed an order for delivery at 3:20pm and the wait time was 45min.. So it wasn't an issue to wait until the estimated delivery time which was supposed to be 4:05pm... Now it's 4:45pm and I still have not gotten my food. Waiting ridiculously over two hours with no explanation?? HORRIBLE. I called to ask where my food was and she said it was JUST leaving the restaurant. Terrible service. Avoid this restaurant if you don't want to wait 2+ hours for food. If I could give this place 0 stars I would! WASTE OF MONEY

I'd give this place 0 stars of I could. I was staying in a hotel in Tucson for a conference with two friends, and we decided to pick up Chinese. Any time I have ever gotten Chinese takeout, it has taken 20 minutes, tops. We ordered there, since we were out driving anyhow. The man I'm assuming is the owner (older white gentleman) took our order and kind of fumbled around. We wanted receipts since this was a business trip, but he didn't seem to know how to work the card machine, and so we didn't get receipts. Then we sit to wait, and 20 minutes pass. A couple comes in and sits there to eat. They get their food before we do. 45 minutes total have passed, and we ask what is going on. One of the servers informs me that they are busy. I point out that the dine-in customers who arrived 20 minutes after us, are currently eating. Then, get this, she says to me, " Dine-in takes priority since they are eating here." Really? So my money is worth less because I'm taking my food to go?!? I could not believe the audacity of this woman. Then the owner comes out and hands me my food, and turns to my friend and says, "Yours is cooking now." HER FOOD IS JUST NOW COOKING??? We waited an additional 10 minutes before her food was done. We waited an hour for two meals that shouldn't have taken that long. They proceeded to tell us when they finally delivered our food, that one of their cooks had walked out. Ya know, had you explained that at the beginning of our order, we may have had more sympathy and patience. The girl at the desk taking orders was rude and acted irritated that we wanted out food! When we asked her to check on our meal after 45 mins had passed, she sighed loudly and rolled her eyes. Some people shouldn't be working in customer service, and some people need to learn how to run a business. The food was decent, but nothing special.

Ordered at 8:12 p.m. And at 9:50 p.m. my order had not left, and I was told" we will give you 10% off" Really? They are the worst no apology, nothing. DON't order from them. TERRIBLE

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the town. Especially the traditional Chinese Szechuan cuisine. Must try it there. The server was good and the delivery was also good and fast!

I prefer the China Szechuan place at Campbell Fair on Ft. Lowell/Campbell. I've never had a bad meal there!

Szechuan Omei offers a lot of traditional Chinese dishes, and I was excited that they had Yu Shiang eggplant, but it just wasn't prepared right. I couldn't pinpoint it, although it was most likely in the texture of the eggplant itself. This restaurant probably deserves four stars -- the servers were really nice, food was set on the table in a timely manner, the facility was clean, their glasses were cool and looked like bamboo, and the two other dishes we ordered (a chow fun and chicken with vegetables) were yummy. However, I was disappointed by their version of my favourite dish, and I simply cannot get over that. Great place, but terrible eggplant.

Food took two and a half hours to get to my house (I live 9 minutes away). The food was still hot and good though.

My favorite dish is not on the menu... Kahn's beef and shrimp. Kinda pricey but delicious and it is a lot of food. 17.95 try substituting broccoli or some other vegetable for the tomatoes...they are just served as raw slices and I prefer steamed veggies.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the portion of food I received via delivery. I ordered House Fried Rice and Orange Chicken, and they were both really good considering the 'Chinese' food I've had delivered from other restaurants. It was good, well-seasoned, and enjoyable. It is pricier than your normal five dollar budget for a meal, but it's well worth the price.

I really like this place for pick-up and delivery, as their location on Speedway is close to me. We tend to order quite a bit of food and they have longstanding coupons in the papers for discounts and free egg rolls or crab wontons, which is always good for us. The General Tso's is very good and spicy. I especially love the sesame chicken; very spicy and pretty much a perfect dish. Huge portions on the dinner menu so it makes for a great lunch the next day. I have to tell you the secret of this place though: the chicken wings. I know, I know. Who goes to a Chinese restaurant and orders chicken wings? (It's sort of a tradition in my household.) But I'm telling you, these are the best chicken wings I have ever had in my life. They are perfectly cooked, salty, resting on a bed of cabbage and green onions. They are to die for. Love, love. The only reason why I would take off a star is because of the limited menu (in my opinion) for the price. I would especially have preferred more chicken dishes under $10. But in general, this place is quite good.

Szechuan O'meh. Good, not great. My baseline in Tucson is *gulp* Panda Express as it is the only palatable Chinese food in Tucson until now. I'm glad Szechuan Omei exists and is close to my house. +1 star. I'm glad the food was better than Panda Express. +1 star. I like that the food was hot, not too oily and relatively fresh. +1 star. Still looking for my go-to Chinese takeout place. I would, however, eat at Omei again.

I wish. I could. Just. Nudge. Them up. 5. Stars. SO. CLOSE! But not yet. For a consistent experience at a decent price, I think this may be it when it comes to Chinese in Tucson. I was always debating with someone just the other day about the best Asian restaurants in town, and we couldn't come up with many. Szecuan Omei is on that list by default. Reasonably priced lunch specials (weekends too) and a menu that hasn't been Americanized make the place a perfect pic if your cruising for something central. The only thing that holds me back from giving them 5 stars is the portion size. I'll be the first to admit it's probably normal (what we should eat as Americans), but I'm STARVING 20 minutes later and today grabbed a sandwich at IKES. Know Before You Go: I've never seen more than one table there. Don't be alarmed, I think it's just an uncovered gem in Tucson.

I've been going here for years and loved it. Apparently the ownership changed a couple months ago according to our server. The result is devistating. This was my favorite chinese restaurant to go to and I will never go there again. Like many reviewers have said, there are better restaurants for Chinese food in town. Try one of them out and skip this one. My only hope is it the previous owners can buy this restaurant back and turn it into the wonderful place that it was. Indeed a sad day has come.

I ordered their Singapore Mei Fun (based on another user's recommendation) and an appetizer of crab puffs to be delivered. SO is one of the few Chinese restaurants that do deliver and they make it easy with online ordering. My order came to $20.29, which isn't "cheap" but is, I think, reasonable for an entree and appetizer delivered to the door. However, when I opened up the Mei Fun, it was bone dry. This is the description of the dish online: "Stir fried Chinese rice vermicelli with BBQ pork, shrimp, bean sprouts, and green onions in a light curry sauce." A "light curry sauce" is what I was expecting, so I called the restaurant right away. The gentleman I spoke with said he'd ask the chefs about it.. A few minutes later, a woman got on the phone and said the dish didn't come with sauce, but with a sprinkled on curry powder so that it didn't get soggy. I told her I didn't taste curry at all, not even a little bit. That besides the chili sauce I had ordered on the side, there was nothing to dress the noodles with. She insisted to me that the noodles as I received them were how Szechuan Omei normally made them. I ended up having to make my own sauce for the dry noodles, which defeated the purpose of ordering food from a restaurant.

The sesame chicken lunch special I ordered was affordable, but the only decent food it came with was the hot and sour soup. Otherwise, there were a lot of fried wonton strips and squares served with sweet and sour sauce, which was offputting for a sit-down Chinese restaurant. The main dish, sesame chicken, was so sinewy and devoid of meat to the point where I had to struggle to eat it. The service was good.

  • Ana C.

There was just nothing outstanding about this place. Two eat for around thirty dollars for a mediocre meal. Dare I say that Panda might be better than this? I'm not one to pick at decor, etc., but there was just nothing that stood out about this place. It was empty when we went--that should have been an indicator--the service was fine. I'd see no reason why to return though.

I've often felt sorry for the goldfish swimming around in Omei's bare tank at the entrance, and then I realized that "bare bones" is an ongoing theme at Omei. I expect a little Shazam with my Szechuan, and after avoiding Omei for a long time because of my last bland takeout, I recently tried the chicken and veggies...and nearly fell asleep from boredom. Without the on-table spices, this dish wilted. At $10.25 it wasn't a great deal as the chicken was thinly sliced and sparse. Mixing ingredients in a wok does not make for Szechuan cuisine

Ever since we moved, Ive been trying to find a decent chinese delivery place, and I think we may have found it with Szechuan Omei. The food is classic chinese restaurant, with a little higher quality ingredients and a little more attention to detail. We ordered vegetable egg rolls, hot and sour soup, vegetable lo mein, and sesame chicken. The delivery took about 30 minutes, which was the low end of what the lady on the phone had quoted me. No problems here. I started with an egg roll and soup. The egg rolls are definitely homemade, and theyre a little dry on the interior. I generally dont mind this as one of my favorite egg rolls comes from Jade Garden which is also dry, but with a lot of spices and black pepper on their filling. This eggroll was good, not great. The hot and sour soup was not exactly what I was expecting, but over the course of eating it, I began to love it more and more. I would consider myself a hot and sour soup connoisseur, and the best in town still goes to Mandarin Grill on Grant. Jade garden makes an excellent one but I think Szechuan Omei just stole the #2 spot. Its noticeably sweeter than the other two versions, but it really goes well with the soup and helps to handle the spiciness of the soup--which is up there, definitely more spicy than the other two mentioned locations'. Really, though, its delicious. The lo mein was about as good as lo mein gets: the sauce was a bit thicker than most places and it held on to the noodles, which I like. The veggies were nicely cooked, and ...well...its lo mein! Its good! The sesame chicken was a breath of fresh air. In a world where "sesame chicken" means "sweet and sour chicken + sesame seeds sprinkled on top" to most chinese restaurants, I was so SO pleased not to have that show up at my door. This is a completely different SESAME sauce, that has a bit of spice to it over fried crispy chicken strips. I really enjoyed their take. Jade Garden in my opinion has a slightly more flavorful sauce, but the spice level on Szechuan Omei's is better. Also, I would like to try this dish dining in because by the time it got to my door, the crispiness factor was pretty much gone. Damn you steam closets masquerading as styrofoam to-go containers! Oh well... Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Is my quest over for finding the best chinese deliver in my area? There are a few more places to try, but this one definitely has set a benchmark.

I enjoyed dinner here this week. We ordered the snow peas with shrimp , it was a little bland but, very tasty. The hot and sour soup was LOVELY! I am a serious soup connoisseur and this is the best in town so far , currently beating Pei Wei.

Had lunch over here today...Have to say the food just as mediocre as it can be for a Chinese restaurant (to me anyway). But its very clean and they even double dished the hot sauce with thes nice square plates for my kun pao chicken, little piece of lemon in the holy water...that little details and effort add an additional star.

This place is alright for Chinese food. Not memorable because I went there a month or two ago and literally can't remember...but definitely not bad. The decor was pretty and made me feel a tad underdressed. The service was decent, and the waiter was quite nice. It was a dollar or two more expensive than most places around town, but not as good so I probably won't be returning.

Ordered delivery through GrubHub. Omei got the most expensive entree wrong. Ordered a shrimp and scallop dish and got chicken. Food was good and as expected otherwise. Solid Chinese-American comfort food- mushu pork, shrimp egg fu yung were great. Egg rolls were rather small. Egg drop soup could use more peas.

Szechuan Oh-My! Have had take out here a number of times and finally ate in. The food has been really solid here - the best classic Chinese items in Tucson that I have found (Impress has some of the best Chinese, but it is only a hot-pot menu). I had a wonderful dining experience - try the Foo Young - it's stunning. The portions are giant and the prices are great.

Lunch Specials are a great deal $5.95 with soup, fried rice and fried wonton. I absolutely love the rice and I am very picky so I always customize with beef, chicken or shrimp and it's always perfect & right! They never complain because I change their dishes. Tom the delivery guy is very nice and always friendly. The portions are big, I generally stick to Teriyaki Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef and the House Fried Rice all have been very good.

This is my go-to place for delivery Chinese in Tucson. Ordering is painless and the delivery is quick as possible for their made to order dishes. The food is always well prepared and they don't short you on the meat. The food is fresh and not overly greasy. Best of all, the war wonton soup is just like I like it: good broth, won tons that stay intact, variety of meats and vegetables and a good dose of white pepper. Overall, a good place for those lazy Sundays in.

This is pretty close to perfection when it comes to Chinese food. The service is always good. The mu shu is fantastic! The portions are big, which is a good thing. An added bonus is that they now have a beef broth phó on the menu. It definitely makes me want to go there more often, just so I can have my phó and mu shu at the same location.

I like Szechuan Omei. If the actual entrees at Potsticker Heaven were as good as this, I would be here with embarrassing frequency. I've only been here a few times and while I wouldn't say it's the Best Chinese Ever, it's all been tasty, light on the grease, and I absolutely love their Mongolian beef. At lunchtime, if you sit near the back, you can see the shadows of the fish from the fish tank swimming across the wall. They have $5.95 lunch specials that include egg drop soup, fried rice, and crispy fried wafers of deliciousness. The portions are generous, but not overwhelmingly so. I'm not a fan of egg drop soup, but a for 75 cents they'll upgrade to hot and sour, or for $1.50, an incredible wonton soup, complete with cabbage, green onions, and slices of barbecue pork. This is totally worth the upgrade cost for the awesomeness. I also have an aversion to fried rice, and there hasn't been an issue replacing it with steamed rice. Szechuan Omei serves hot jasmine tea by the pot, and I also find that difficult to pass up. I haven't been brave enough to try the dumplings, but someday I'll go there. The service is quick and friendly and, really, I can't fathom turning down a lunch date here.

I like coming here for take out for lunch. It is well worth the price for under 7 dollars with an egg drop soup included. Also, they are really quick and swift with getting my order. I really like this place for an American Chinese place in Tucson. Also, the people working here, are really nice!

Look no further Tucson! Finally, I've found some palatable Chinese food in Tucson. Honestly, I've tried all the delivery Chinese food near the University, alas disappointment after disappointment. But not with Omei. This place really impressed me. My girl and I ordered a little more than our stomachs could handle but we love leftovers :p...anyway on to the good stuff, we got the house lo mein which includes beef, chicken, and shrimp, cheng tu pork, sesame chicken, and some hot and sour soup (I know, fatties). And because we ordered over 30 bucks, they threw in a free order of crab puffs, and trust me it wasn't a measly free order. I can't emphasize enough how delectable the sesame chicken was. ORDER IT. It's amazing. The flavors were spot on. I really can't say enough good things about this place. Just try it, you'll see. This is definitely 5 stars for Tucson Chinese food. But for overall, they definitely deserve at least a 4.

Yum! I have been trying to find a new place for Chinese food lately and after seeing the great reviews on here decided to give Szechuan a try. It was tasty and from the other options available in Tucson it's actually pretty good. Delivery was fast and lunch specials were cheap. We tried the sesame chicken, house lo mein and beef with broccoli. All three came with fried rice and egg flower soup. The rice was a little too greasy and plain - nothing but rice. The soup was good and had peas and carrots - I don't like when its all just broth. All the entrees were tasty the beef and broccoli had very fresh crisp broccoli, sesame chicken wasn't battered and fried which I loved. The house lo mein was also very good and overall for the price I will definitely be trying Omei again.

I give this place a 3.9999. I can't round up. I'm sorry. I just can't. Sure, the General Tsao's is decent. I don't love it, but it's respectable. It's the closest thing I have found to an authentic General Tsao's (in Tucson). By authentic, I mean the "authentic" American General Tsao's, which I'm almost certain originated in New York. And sure, their Sweet and Sour Chicken is fine. A-OK. But why on earth did I order this? I don't know, I guess I forgot how most Chinese American places prepare it as a greasy deep-fried chicken, with a side of heated sauce. The thing is, I can't round Szechuan Omei up a star because it's just like all the other Chinese restaurants I've encountered in Tucson. It lacks the Asian magic. And so the hunt continues...

I like the food and the prices. I disagree with sally, the sesame chicken is one of their best. just because its thinly cut doesnt mean there was no meat, it was just covered in breading and sesame done better then most other Chinese restaurants!

  • Tony B.

I went here for lunch and ordered the house special lo mein, shrimp with lobster sauce, Mongolian beef and chicken wrapped in foil as an appetizer. The chicken in foil were dangerously under cooked, but they were nice about reheating it. The rest of our food was good, I liked the shrimp with lobster sauce the best. The lunch special is a good deal, for $6-8 you get soup, fried rice, and entrée. I would eat here again. Tip: Another great restaurant.com place to dine at. I would not recommend ordering the chicken in foil appetizer, it's just too risky of a dish to eat if they under-cook it.

Deliciously good orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. Their dumplings are also amazing. Maybe a little pricey compared to other Chinese restaurants on their dinner menu but i think the quality is a step above. O.K. waiting service.

We had just arrived home from a four-day camping stint in Southern Utah. We were mentally exhausted. I suggested ordering Chinese, but at the same time had already set myself up for disappointment: there is no good chinese delivery in Tucson. Well, that's what I thought. It turns out Szechuan Omei is a gem, it's not perfect, but for delivery, very acceptable. I think the noodle dishes are where it's at. The Chow Ho Fun was outstanding and a very good portion. My husband liked his Egg Foo Young. It was a little different, with a thin gravy and the meat is not cooked inside the but just thrown in at the end with the gravy. Still, I think it would make any foo young fan happy. As far as mid-town Tucson chinese delivery, this will be my go-to.

my rating is really closer to 3.5 stars, but giving a half star isn't a thing on yelp. i ate in here once a few years ago, and more recently have gotten delivery a handful of times. the second time i ordered for delivery (via grubhub), i ordered a tofu dish and they brought chicken. i didn't realize this until after the delivery driver had left, but i called the restaurant who in turn called the driver, who called ME, and said that it had been written down wrong and they'd prepare the correct item and bring it back to me. great! the vegetable lo mein is really good. the snow peas in it have great flavor. i wish there were more tofu-based dishes, however. the few they offer are just okay. decent veggie spring rolls, though.

Great food, great service, not so great dining environment. The waiter was very friendly and eager to please. I wanted a spicy noodle dish so I ordered the lo mein with tofu and asked him to make it spicy, and had egg rolls for an appetizer. The food was delicious, by far the best Chinese food I've had in Tucson. The only thing I did not like about the experience was the small, plain interior of the restaurant. It was clean, but not exactly an eye pleaser. I think I'd rather have take out.

Growing up in SF, decent Chinese food in Tucson is impossible to get. Other than the chain restaurants like Panda Express or Pei Wei, all there really are available are greasy buffet joints. So, Szechuan Omei is the best alternative if I am really too lazy to cook myself. Its food is okay, not many vegetable dishes on the menu and pretty Americanized - they have the normal stuff like walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef/chicken. I do enjoy their sizzling beef platter. The portions are pretty decent and I haven't every had problems with having to wait too long. The one thing I really can't stand is that they use canned mushrooms in some of their dishes - but they are totally willing to not add them if you ask :P Overall, a good choice for okay Chinese if in a pinch!

While the vegetarian options are quite a bit more limited than the place down the street, what they do have is very good. We ordered the summer rolls with tofu, garlic green beans, and General Tso's chicken. The summer rolls were very good, though the peanut sauce was a bit... heavy. The garlic green beans were seasoned perfectly and caramelized to bring out a great, rich flavor. The chicken also got rave reviews.

My husband and I are in Tucson for 12 days this month while he works at DM. He's on a weird schedule so we don't get to hang out until later. We went to grab some dinner after 8pm. After driving around for awhile, we decided on Szechuan Omei. He'd been here several times as a kid when he lived here and I'd ordered take out back in 2004 when I lived by the UofA. After all of those years (for both of us), things were still good. We stopped in and were able to get a table real quick- we were the only people there until another couple came in for dinner & yet another grabbed take-out. We ordered Chicken Chop Suey (me) and General Tsos Chicken (him) off the dinner special menu. Each came with a choice of soup, eggroll or crab puff?, and white or fried rice. Our waiter was friendly and the food came fast. Our bill, for the two of us and a shared pot of tea was $24. We got a military discount and it wound up being a little over $22. We'll most likely be back soon.

Szechuan Omei is a pretty cool little Chinese place. It's not a buffet, but the prices are very reasonable - especially if you grab a lunch special. We stopped in after a bit of shopping this afternoon and enjoyed splitting an order of crab puffs before our meal of lunch specials. I had the Cashew Chicken (they took out the celery for me without complaint) and the wife ordered the Lo Mein . Our soup arrived just a bit before our appetizer - just about perfect timing. Our entrees were fresh, hot and tasty. Our waiter made sure our glasses were always full without making himself a nuisance. Stop in - You'll enjoy it!

It really would be a 3.5...PLEASE YELP add 1/2 stars!!! My dad and I went out of our normal Tucson eating places and went for a nice chinese meal at Szechuan Omei. Growing up in Tucson I remember driving by the place several times but only went for the first time on Friday. We ordered Chicken with Snow Peas, Mongolian Beef and Green Beans with Garlic Sauce. The food was good...not great, not bad either. The best part of the meal were the Green Beans. They were fresh and had such an amazing flavor. The service was quick and decent...I will probably return to try some of my favorites!

Finding good Chinese food is a reason to celebrate, and celebrate I did. Omei used to be a place that my sorority sisters and I would go to just for their Lo-Mein. I once ventured off from the norm and sampled their orange chicken. This was a huge downturn and almost led me to never eat from here again. This incident did not deter me enough, however, and I continue to come here for my Lo-Mein. I have also had their sesame chicken and this was good. Second only to Gee's on Alvernon (back when they were good, they've gone downhill as of late). The restaurant itself is very quant. The foyer area is marked by a large fish tank. There is a small dining room with tables and vinyl chairs. Service has always been found to be friendly and they don't keep you waiting for your food to come out. Omei is a solid choice for those Chinese cravings in Tucson.

This is so far the best Chinese I have found in Tucson. I judge by hot and sour soup, Mongolian chicken or beef and egg foo young. The hot sour soup was good enough for me to eat it all. It was not to thick which I often times find to be a problem. I could also distinguish between the hot and the sour, very important. The vegetarian egg foo young rocked my world, it was actually the best I have ever had. The Mongolian dishes were tasty, they were not saturated with grease, the veggies were fresh and they followed direction and brought it out spicy like we like. I have been back numerous times and have continued to have good food each and every time.

They should rename this place "Szechuan Oh-My". I love this place! The hot and sour soup is to die for. The small portion is a cup but the bowl will easily serve 4 or more ($6.50). I have never had a bad entree there. They offer several "family"combination dinners if your are eating with a friend or two. The service is decent and the prices are fair for the offerings. Enjoy!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
