I've been here twice. This time I can during happy hour. The seaweed salad is good especially for the happy hour price! We ordered several rolls which were yummy. The salmon skin roll was my favorite. Overall, would eat here again! On another note, the service was horrible. Our waitress looked liked she did not want to be there, and you can tell she has never been a waitress before (she has so much to learn). Also, I understand being a waitress is not the most enjoyable job (I used to be one); however, you can atleast smile.

Nothing special. Just like "most of" the Japanese restaurants in Tucson. Not very good and not very bad. It is eatable and will keep you away from starving to death. Here is a picture of their ice water, enjoy!

My sister and I always come here when I visit her in Tucson. Her apartment is a three minute walk to Sushi-Cho! We have never had a negative experience there. The food is always fresh and delivered to your table quickly. They give you complimentary miso soup as well as edamame. The green tea is generous and always does the trick after a long day. I always order a bunch of different types of vegetable roles with avacado, cucumber, asparagus, etc. the staff are awesome. Prices are cheap! Three of us ate full dinners for under thirty dollars. Basically, this place is awesome in every way.

I have been going to this place for year, and must say their quality has gone down both on food and costumer service. Tonight I ordered take out and not only were my rolls poorly made (I couldn't pick one up without it falling apart), but they also forgot my miso soup Although the price is still more affordable than most, I'm not sure I will be going back.

Vegan-friendly staff. The service is great. Some family members got together there and some are vegan and other not. They were able to meet all our needs with no mix-ups. Thanks!

Food: 4 Price: 3 (normal) Services: 4 atmosphere: 3.5? Not much to say about this place. Sushi is alright, better than some other places in town. But not the best ... search my review for the best quality sushi. This place deserves for another visit cuz 1) it is not too expensive, 2) if I want some non-sushi Japanese food, such as udon, and 3) services and atmosphere is pretty good.

OK, so after reading one of the reviews, maybe I'll need to go back and try some sashimi here. But as for the rolls, well, I'll pass on those served at Sushi Cho. No, I've never had any issues with the fish. That actually tasted pretty good. But the amount of rice per roll is incredible! Way too much. Service is good, but until I'm looking to go for a sashimi marathon, I think I will go elsewhere for my sushi addiction.

So many choices your head will spin. Everything we have had tastes great, but it is a bit pricey. Service could be better.

This is my all-time FAVORITE sushi place in Tucson! Their portions are among the biggest in the city, their dinner prices are reasonable (but their lunch prices.....phenomenal). They also have the freshest seafood around....... mmm, just thinking about their tuna rolls makes my mouth water. The interior is very clean, atmosphere is nice, and the wait staff is quite friendly! Two complaints (but not serious enough offenses as so to dock a star!): They're closed Sunday (usually my only day off), and minimal parking (though that's not their fault...just their landlord's I imagine).

This place is fine. If I felt the need for some sushi and was driving by (exactly how I found it in the first place) I'd probably stop in again. I always try to get a variety of fish-types so I got some spicy tuna roll topped with unagi. The spicy tuna was not spicy in the least. Kind of disappointing. But the unagi was good. Although I'm not actually sure you can mess up unagi. I also got some salmon nigiri and hamachi nigiri. Both I'd say were average quality. The girl here that took my order was really nice - so that was good. I got stuck on that spicy tuna though...really wish it had been spicy.

For the size of their rolls, which are stuffed with fish and easy on the rice this place is a great deal! Their "Cho-Combo" is always the perfect amount of sushi. Been going here for about 3 years and always have felt that I got a delicious meal for a pretty good price. If you are looking for good sushi but don't want to break the bank this is the spot

Normally, I use Yelp to check out any and every new place I eat at. This weekend I made an exception, my mom said Sushi Cho was good and I went with it... I went for dinner on a Saturday with 3 other people. Let's start with the good... We recieved complimentary miso soup and edamame. Service was attentive and friendly. The White Tuna Tataki was EXCELLENT, the squid salad was also very good. The cuts of yellowtail and white tuna nigiri were thick. I didn't catch what the bill was, but from what I saw on the menu prices seemed to be on the low end. And now, the not so good... The majority of the rolls we ordered were WAY too large. It should not take 3 bites to eat one piece of a roll. Only one roll was easily edible. The nigiri wasn't melt-in-my-mouth fresh as I have come to expect Overall, Sushi-Cho just didn't wow me at all. I know, Tucson is in the desert and I shouldn't expect too much from a sushi place in the desert... but I still expected a little better from Sushi-Cho.

This place is in my neighborhood, however I had never been. They have great fresh sushi and very affordable. They have an amazing happy hour during the week and on Saturday happy hour from 5-7pm. Happy hour is 1/2 off premium saki and $1 pieces of nigiri and many other screaming deals. The have a sushi combo plate with miso and a salad for $8.95 which also includes 4 pieces of nigiri and one roll of your choice. I highly recommend checking this place out.

I have been coming to Sushi Cho for a few years now. Everytime I want to try a new sushi place, I usually revert back to this place because I know it will always be good. The fish is ALWAYS fresh. It never tastes bad. The nigiri is delicious, especially the squid. But my favorite thing here is the quail egg shooter. Just try it. So unbelievably tangy.

Hmm where to start? My rating of a 4 star is a little inflated and should actually be a 3.5 but I just decided to round up. I went today and it was my first time ever going here. Atmosphere is nice and the service was really good as well. The sushi came out in a timely manner and there was a pretty large variety of other foods as well. Positives: Location- very close to UA and would be a great place to get some lunch in between classes. Prices- The pricing for sushi is about a dollar cheaper than most places per sushi dish. Happy Hour- I didn't get to try this out for myself but I will be doing an updated review about it in the near future but from the signs its $1 Sushi with purchase of any beverage which actually sounds too good to be true. I believe the time and days were Mon-Thurs from 4-6pm. They also give you a cup of edamame and miso soup as well when you order sushi as a side which is pretty nice because most other places make you pay a little extra for this. Negatives- I wouldn't say the sushi was bad but it wasn't as good as I would've hoped. While this isn't true for all the sushi but about 2 of the 4 rolls weren't very tasty and either had too much cucumbers or rice. I came here thinking that they would use an extremely large amount of rice based on the other reviews I've read but its honestly not that much more. However, my other 2 rolls were extremely unique and tasty I enjoyed them very much. I don't remember what the names were I think it was the Crunchy California roll and the Blue Crab roll. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good sushi that is extremely close to campus but there are other places that are a little better just a couple miles down the street. In the future I would only see myself taking advantage of their happy hour or stopping by to get a quick sushi fix.

Okay, so lunch specials are freakin' cheap. I got the orange chicken lunch plate, glass of wine (crappy wine, btw), and my bill was under 10.00. The service was FAST, the food was HOT, and the waitress was FRIENDLY. I cannot complain.

My family just enjoyed a carryout feast from Sushi Cho. If you've read my reviews then you know my family loves Japanese takeout. We're always on the lookout for a new favorite place and I think we've found it! We ordered pan fried gyoza, shrimp tempura, miso soup, cucumber salad, California Rolls & Yellowtail and Tuna Nigiri. All excellent and fresh. They actually punched holes in the tempura containers so the shrimp would stay crispy, first time I've ever seen that! I've had tempura dipping sauce so watery that it was useless, but Sushi Cho's was full flavored and delicious. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, crunchy and fantastic. Actually, the whole meal was beyond expectations. Everything was fresh and delectable. I can't believe it took so long to try this close to home gem! I almost forgot to add how great the service was. This is from a person whose first and last opinion of a place is usually based on service. The food was so good, I nearly neglected to mention the friendly, professional people who work there!

Well, well, well, Sushi-Cho. Didn't think I'd ever come back did you? Not after the last time I ordered a roll to go and was sick with food poisoning for the most miserable 29 hours of my life... I gave you one more chance, Sushi-Cho. I can't say I'm impressed, but at least it's an improvement over the last visit. My friend and I ordered sashimi for two, the Red Dragon roll and a Rainbow Roll. Miso soup and edamame were served complimentary. Here were the pros and cons of our visit: Pros: -close to campus -great sashimi, no fishy off-tasting nastiness -white tuna sashimi is DELISH -best miso soup in town (and they don't charge $3!... talking to you, Fresh Wasabi) Cons: -rolls were terribly constructed. Very little rice on both rolls, didn't even cover the nori completely. Red Dragon roll eel was slippery and kept sliding all over the roll. Rainbow roll fell apart completely; these rolls were not properly formed/pressed/whatever they do with that little bamboo mat. -weird atmosphere (for me)... some were dressed up, some were... well, me and my friend. I think this place deserves "casual" status. -wait staff. Sorry to contradict some of the reviews below, maybe this server just started. We had to ask for extra wasabi twice, miso and edamame took ~10+ minutes to arrive tableside, at which point the sushi was almost ready. Begged for water refills. Next time, I'll sit at the sushi bar. There are better places in town, such as Sushi Ten. I'd say skip going to Sushi Cho unless 1) you're only getting sashimi and you avoid the waiter mentioned above or 2) you're too lazy to drive an extra 5 minutes to get to a quality place.

Good bye, old friend. I have more happy, yummy memories of Sushi-Cho than I can count. Years and years of this being our go-to spot for everything young sushi lovers want: fresh, big, and cheap. We had a good, 15 year run. [/quiet sobbing] The box of take out we got tonight was the nail in the coffin for our fishy affair. Where as you could understand iffy fish on a Tuesday, you'd expect ANY sushi restaurant to have their game face on for a Friday night. I guess the quality of fish we got tonight just shows that Sushi-Cho isn't even trying to play. The salmon (had in nigiri, wrapped on a spicy tuna roll) was old and stringy, the tuna (in spicy tuna various rolls) was strong and fishy, and the vegas roll was stuffed with fake crab and had no spicy sauce. there wasn't one delicious morsel on the plate. Even the edamame had a few pods with black beans inside (never have seen that before). So, I'm sorry, Sushi Cho, but we will not be back. You broke my heart and good. At least we'll always have the '90s.

Sushi Cho is not a swanky sushi restaurant. If you want music and decor, go elsewhere! Sushi Cho is a fantastic option for fast service, good portions and decent prices. They have a happy hour from 4-6 with reduced costs. They have a special available at ALL times that includes 4 nigiri and one sushi roll, miso soup, a small salad, edamame, and fruit for under $10. The service is friendly, and you'll never have trouble getting a table or spot at the sushi counter. I've always been satisfied with the freshness of the fish. To reiterate, this is not a fancy sushi join that boasts flashy options, but it is a solid choice for a quick lunch or a quiet, no-frills dinner.

They have good happy hour. We spent about 28 bucks for my husband and myself! I had ordered their beef fried rice, the beef was a little chewy so I picked it all out and the dish was actually better. I will go back and try other stuff on the menu.

Decent prices for OK sushi. I tried the Spicy Tuna Handroll, Yellowfin Maki, and had the Sushi Cho Box dinner (which was a really good deal if you're really hungry.) Box dinner comes with a little bit of everything from orange chicken with fried rice, bowl of miso soup, bowl of salad, 3 pieces of fried gyoza on fried noodles, your choice of teri chicken or teri salmon, 4 pieces of tempura.. all for $8. Sadly, I liked the atmosphere because it wasn't crowded and noisy (bad from a business point of view). I'd go here again. Oh, they also have a happy hour.

Went here as part of a sushi-meet up group. They had good hh specials. The sushi was good, but nothing especially impressive. I got an Alaskan roll, a spicy yellow tail and a Cali roll. Everything was nicely made and reasonably fresh. They had a good assortment of sake choices - a good match to the aforementioned hh specials. I got a cold small sake and it came in a cute little pop-top sake bottle (never seen that before).

i must say that i was hungry and craving for some sushi is a dry non-oceanic place like tucson, az. I knew not to expect to much, but the place definitely has some goods and bads. the sashimi was cut in generous pieces, but the rolls were nothing special. there was not a single roll that i would crave to eat. oh, waiters, and waitresses are all cantonese...

I was craving sushi, and after reading how awful Fuku Sushi-the closest sushi place-I decided to come here. When I walked in, alone, I was greeted with a rather bland 'How can I help you?' instead of an offer for a table. The miso soup was a tad boring but the day was cold and rainy so it was welcome as a hot portion of the meal. I ordered the rainbow roll, the assorted tempura, and a plain salmon roll. I'm being entirely generous with a three-star because I have to factor in that this is a tiny sushi restaurant in the middle of a land-locked state and I am used to fresh California sushi. That being said, all of my fish tasted old and a tad warm, and that's all I can really say about the sushi. The tempura came out nice, crisp, and very hot. It came with not only shrimp, but imitation crab and a few veggies I never would have expected in a tempura appetizer. It was a pleasant surprise compared to the dull, aging sushi. The service was prompt and professional, if not a little distant. Overall, I probably won't be going back unless I am absolutely desperate for some raw fish.

this place is so awful I'm starting this review as I'm still sitting here. This place is awful. Hands down the worst meal I've had in a long LONG time. If I could give 0 stars I would. I really do not know how anyone could give this place any positive ratings. Maybe for the wait staff because they are nice but as far as food quality goes, this place blows. we only found tried this place because we were tired of driving around and yelp! had it post with 3 stars (I think). let me start off with saying that there's a strong deep fry smell when you enter the place. that should have been clue #1. then we noticed that the place is run by Chinese, which I've never seen before so that should already raise another red flag. we all got standard rolls that any sushi place would serve. dragon rolls, salmon rolls, etc. their sushi is very heavy on the rice (meaning lots of rice and not a whole lot of fish, proportions were all wrong) and everything just tasted horrible. we all tried to eat as much as we could but no one eat more than a 1/5th of what they ordered. when we got the check they offered us boxes for our leftovers and everyone promptly said, "No thanks!". When 4 hungry guys all turn down food like that it really says something. we all joked about leaving and going straight to the Carl's Jr. across the parking lot but we didn't. looking back on it now, we should have. would have been a better meal. I couldn't recommend this place to anyone. If you've ever had good sushi you should stay far far away.

I love this hole in the wall of a restaurant! Miso soup and edamame are always complimentary, staff is so nice and I never have to wait long for my delicious food. Prefer over Sushi Garden any day!

New Year's Eve we went to Sushi Cho and I must say I adored it. Again as most people know I am not a sushi fan but I enjoyed this a lot. My fiance, my friend, and I came here last night we ordered gyoza, vegetable egg rolls, green tea, jila monster roll, and three other rolls, miso soup, and green tea ice cream...it was a feast! So for our feast all together it was $80 which I think is awesome! First of all I like to try everything oh and we had two orders of shashimi-it was divine. Oh and lets talk about our drinks--good times. I adored this place the only bad thing was that our service wasn't great. It wasn't awful just not great or otherwise I would give this 5 stars--we will definitely be back this is the perfect place to go with a group and plus the sushi on my opinion is decently priced. Yum!

Sushi Cho was our 2nd choice as Sushi Garden east on Bdwy had a long wait. Sushi Cho )SC) was not busy, seated us right away and provided a nice atmoshpere. My son ordered a few rolls which he couldn't finish and I ordered Beef Stir Fry w/rice. Great food, excellent prices and nice service make this place a real gem! C'mon Tucson don't follow the herd to Sushi Garden, check this place out instead.

I really like Sushi-Cho. While the service is not the best, the food always hits the spot. I'm not expert on how sushi is "supposed" to taste, but I think it's pretty good. The miso soup is super yummy also.

I have been frequenting this place since 2002 and I love the prices and services. I actually live in Phoenix now and I haven't found a place with competitive prices and sushi, so when I visit my family I always make a point to go. I was there this Saturday and I do have to admit that sometimes the salmon can be off just a tiny bit, but we do live in a desert. I definitely give them a pass for that, because it is hard to cater to a non-sushi eater (my husband). But for some reason, they have found the perfect box dinner for about $8.00. For $8.00 you get the miso soup (most places charge extra), salad, California rolls, tempura shrimp and vegetables, squid salad, chicken teriyaki and rice. If it sounds like a lot of food, it is, but better yet it taste great! My hubby even made a comment to say it's the best box dinner he has ever had. Trust me, we eat at a lot of sushi places and that is definitely a compliment. None the less, it's a great atmosphere and the service is always great. And the prices are very very reasonable for any budget. I counted that I ate 26 pieces of sushi, had my plum wine, miso soup and salad, along with my husbands dinner and it was only about $39.00.

The sushi here is A-OK. It's not bad and it's not the best. The interior has a japanese theme to it. The restaurant is fairly large for a sushi restaurant. The furniture isn't as nice. The service is okay. There isn't much to say about this place. The main reason why I came here to eat fairly often is because it's close to campus. It is located in the same plaza as Carl's Jr. The sushi is okay. The size of the sushi is pretty good to a little itty bitty bigger than normal. The place is cheaper compared to other sushi places. The only con about the sushi is that they are not tightly rolled. Due to this, it is really easy for the ingredients inside to come out causing the whole sushi roll to fall apart. The bento boxes are also good as well.

Decent sushi for Tucson but I prefer Sushi Garden on Alvernon/Broadway.. The prices are a bit high compared to standard rates and the quality does not match up.. If you're craving sushi this will do but if you're looking for something more legit I would drive a few blocks down the street.. I ordered a spider roll, hamachi, masago, and unagi for takeout and they made it within 10 minutes! Super quick service is always good.. The unagi wasn't very smooth and I think the edges may have scratched my mouth (odd right?), the hamachi was good but a bit tough (indicating low level of freshness), the masago tasted super fishy, and the spider roll was superb! I would definitely order the spider roll again and probably the hamachi too because it wasn't that bad.. This thursday they're having a 20% off everything deal for Veteran's Day so if you want to check this place out then that's a great night to go!

Best sushi in Tucson. How they manage fish this fresh in the desert I will never know....Get the combination sushi/sashimi boat. Great value and you will be stuffed....The quality of the fish is high.

Blech! This is the worst type of Asian fusion ever. I prefer the Chinese food and donut combination to the Chinese-Japanese fusion-but-none-of-it-done-well option. Stick with sushi and knock the rest off the menu. I made the mistake of ordering a non-sushi item (I know, I know, perhaps it's my fault for not heeding the name's guidance) and it was horrible.

I have been eating the chirashi bowl here for about one year or so. It is the best in town. You get such a glorious serving of some of the best cuts of fish I have seen in Tucson. And the fish is always fresh. Never have I had a problem with the freshness or texture of the rice either. On this particular visit, I opted for the dinner service. I think I have tried dinner here once or twice before. But that would have been years ago. On this most recent visit, I found that the restaurant was somewhat slow. Very quiet for a Thursday night, I thought. It seemed like a nice place to take a new friend, or to go on the third or fourth date. I was pleased to find that there are some excellent specials, especially during happy hour, which runs Sunday through Thursday, 4-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 5-7 p.m. $1 sushi? They have it. I hear the orange chicken combo is pretty popular, and the spicy seafood soup looks thick and flavorful. They also have the Cho Combo which, at about $9, will get you a roll, nigiri, miso soup and a salad. That is an excellent price for the budget conscious! On my visit, I went for the chirashi bowl with no masago, and also uni nigiri. The bowl was as delicious as ever. The uni was so perfectly prepared! Fresh with a nice, deep sea flavor without tasting too salty. And meaty, but with the exact softness that fresh uni yields. In all, I spent less than $25 and will be returning again and again.

Not the most amazing for rolls and such, but definitely best bang for your buck if you're ordering sashimi. Also, note that you don't get the free miso soup and edamame if you order to go so dine in if possible.

I didn't go with high expectations, but Sushi-Cho pleasantly surprised me with very decent lunch options. For ~9 bucks, I got two hand rolls (salmon skin and crab), and two pieces of salmon nigiris, in addition to the usual miso and edamame. It was a very filling meal, and the cut of fish was not bad for a lunch special! My co-worker is literally obsessed with Sushi-Cho and often brings work here. Although she does not consider herself a connoisseur of sushis, she loves this spot and the owner. To some of us, Sushi-Cho is the functional equivalent of a coffee shop, especially when we are in search of calming, therapeutic food in a buzzing world.

Ok This is an updated review from my first poor review of Sushi-Cho. Desperate for sushi the other day, my friend and coworker came down here to grab a quick bite. Their lunch specials were great. I had the one for $8.95 where it came with like 3 pieces of nigiri and your choice of roll. The pieces of fish were hefty and the rice was minimal. The fish was tasty and fresh. for $8.95 I feel like I got a better value than other AYCE sushi places, just on quality alone. Plus the servings were generous enough that you're not still hungry after the meal, yet you're not bursting at the seams. The service has also stepped it up a notch or 5. The waitress was quick and attentive, and I think she knew that we were on lunch and kind of in a hurry because she was very prompt in our checks and everything. This being said, Sushi-Cho, I will be back for more! Thanks for turning everything around!

Alright let me start by saying I lived in Japan almost 4 years and I ate everywhere I could! This is place would make my top 10 for sushi even taking that into account. The service was great! We were doing take out but we got service just as good as anyone else in the dining area. The food was as delicious as it was beautiful. Not to mention very fairly priced. I'm not from Tucson but if I stop through again I'll be making my way back here.

Whenever I'm in Tucson, I land at Sushi Cho for lunch. The sushi is very traditional and every customer is greeted with edamame and miso soup - a nice touch. Fish is always very fresh, sashimi is cut generously, and rolls are large. The lunch special is a great deal and they don't skimp on the fish. Admittedly, there is a fish buffet a couple minutes up the road that some flock to, but mass produced deep fried fake crab and cream cheese rolls just isn't my thing.

  • Tai T.

I was actually pleasantly surprised. It was a Sunday night & this was one of the only sushi places open in the area. I had all nigiri & it was all fresh & well prepared. The Uni was on point, Saba was just as pleasant. The tuna, salmon & halibut were all nicely prepped & fresh. They were quickly made & the service was just fine. It may appear like a low end kind of place but I can assure you, if you're there for the fish, which you should be, if you say you eat "sushi", then you'll not be disappointed. The sushi chefs clearly know what they're doing. I can only speak, though, on the basis of the sushi, as I didn't eat any of their other menu. I was just there for the sushi.

Several years ago, several friends and I from work use to go to Sushi-Cho for lunch weekly. The fish was always fresh and the sushi chefs were quick, great for lunch. But that changed. The fish was not a fresh and the service was lacking. Obviously I was not anxious to go back. Sushi not being fresh is very problematic. After several years, I decided to cautiously try it again. I am happy to report that things seemed to have changed for the better. The fish is fresh, and the service is quick and helpful. The fish on the sushi is some of the largest portions I have seen. I really enjoyed the sushi and will definitely be back.

Great sushi! One of the best spots in Tucson. Great customer service. Very reasonably priced. Excellent for dine in or take out. They have an amazing happy hour as well (4-6PM).

  • Michael H.

They give very large portions of sashimi, which was always fresh and tasty the 3 or 4 times I ate there. The sashimi cuts are also somewhat unusual in morphology; I don't know why, but it makes for an interesting bite and inspires different sensations than other sashimi cuts. Honestly, I pretty much only eat sashimi at Japanese restaurants and don't bother with sushi rolls, etc. Once or twice my kids, who love sushi, didn't seem to enthralled with the food, but if you are there for sashimi it is worth a try. The first time we went there, I was given so much sashimi and such a variety of it that I felt like I had two or three meals. Other times, the portions were smaller but still quite large in comparison to other joints.

yes, this is tucson, and i understand that the quality of fish aint fresh but does it have to be super dry and rubbery? like how on earth could you possibly call yourself a sushi joint and to all you folks who gave this place above a 3+ star. shame on you!!! so so bad that i had to take my appetite elsewhere...

This is where the real Asians that go to the U of A go to get their Sushi! This is a great place. The cuts of fish they serve rival the size of some chicken breasts! I have another place i favor to this one in town... Tucson is so close to the ocean that they have really good sushi! Not really and I am not sure how it happens that they do have a few great places here. This is my # 2 place in town... but i do really love it.

I found the sushi here lacking. I've only been once, but it just didn't sway me either way. No noticable skill, the fish wasn't bad, but wasn't amazingly fresh either. I think this placed is definitely over hyped as I've heard lots of good about it also, but it just didn't seem to deliver.

You can't expect perfect, authentic sushi this far away from a coast. But Sushi Cho is great fun and a worthwhile stop even for those of us lucky enough to live in coastal cities with large Japanese populations. The sushi menu has a good number of selections, and many of them are playful and fun: sushi with chilies, entire sushi rolls tempura-fried, etc. Sushi rolls are gigantic - way too big to fit in your mouth and you *will* make a mess - and cheap. The waitstaff is friendly and service surprisingly attentive for how full the place is.
