I can't believe I haven't reviewed Savaya yet! There was a time when I spent a LOT of time at Savaya. Schedules changed, but I go back when I can. One of the things I love about Savaya are the employees. A few of my favorite baristas have moved on, some have stayed, but coming here is always a bit like Norm walking into Cheers. :) Then there's the coffee. Until Savaya, I thought coffee was coffee was coffee-- essential but all tasting the same. Not so, of course. I credit Savaya with informing and improving my tastebuds for the brew. My favorite here is a French press. Any bean will do as they are all excellent. The coffee classes they offer are free, unique and fun. Savaya is a very chill place to spend a morning.

This is a great place to work! The coffee is amazing, but I also loved the playful light green decor and murals. It's comfortable and cozy to sit and work on a weekend. I also loved their super long power strips which lets you just plug in and just get going! The coffee selection itself is very impressive, as is the knowledge of the staff. Lastly, although their pastry options were limited, they are all freshly baked! I got a banana muffin to go along with my americano and it was perfect!!

This is one of two really legitimate Tucson coffee places not in downtown (the other one is crave). This place has in my opinion the best coffee bar-none in Arizona when it comes to pure taste. I am also a big fan of how its internet is blazing fast (as in faster than mine at home). It can get a little squished when there are lots of people here and they could provide more food offerings. However, the overall experience (farm house feel with modern chair furniture was interesting) was pretty awesome.

cute coffee shop that specializes in single origin coffee beans, which they also sell by the pound if you're interested they have a limited pastry selection if you're hungry, otherwise i'd just come here for coffee --iced coffee: $4 unlike the variety of choices for hot coffees, you can only choose from the type that's been made with their interesting contraption for that day lot's of table & counter seating, plus lounge chairs NOTE: free wifi & extra charge for iced drinks and soy milk

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! I have come here for almost as long as I have lived in Tucson. After moving here from NYC, I was desperately in search for a good coffee shop where I could spend afternoons working. After trying several shops closer to where I live, including Black Crown, Cartel on Campbell, Crave, and a few others, Savaya has become my favorite and worth the 10-15 minute drive. Not only is the coffee at Savaya always a hit, but the place itself is also very cheerful. The cool furniture and world map showing the different regions where coffee is imported from create a fun environment to hang out in both for work and fun. The newly renovated chalkboard menu also adds a fun touch and the staff are more than friendly and extremely knowledgable about coffee. The two things I love the most about Savaya is that the music is never so loud that I can hear it through my headphones and that the staff treat you like one of their own-- I often spend 4-5 hours there and they let me check out at the end, trusting me to pay my tab before I leave each time. My favorites are definitely the science coffee and the kaffette. If you've never heard of them, you should definitely give them a chance!

Stopped here, can't remember, either on my way to Canada, or on my way back from Canada during Christmas and New Year's vacation. The layout was nice and the atmosphere was more rustic-farm-style. It was a change from the string of other coffee shops I had visited along my trip, the majority of which were focused on minimalism, industrialism, and greatly impersonal. I really liked the long bar and the seating along the bar. When we arrived, the barista was speaking to the only other customers in the store and they were trying several different pour-overs, I found this to be very nice and created a friendly atmosphere, instead of a pretentious atmosphere. I really liked the touch of the coffee flavor wheel on the wall. I think it really helps customers decide on what roast they would want to buy, or how to describe the coffee that they are trying. I got an iced coffee and my partner got a latte. We both enjoyed our coffees, although they were slightly bitter so that we had to add some sugar. I also ended up buying a pound of the Brazil roast. As a french press it wasn't very good, but as an espresso and aeropress, it was much better and really brought out the flavors of the stone fruit. I would definitely come here again if I'm passing through.

I've been attuned to Starbucks mostly because of the convenience factor. I should of branched out sooner. I asked the barista to surprise me with something hot, rich and slightly sweet. Low and behold I have a delicious hazelnut latte before me. My gal pals enjoyed a mocha frap and a caramel latte. The environment was enjoyable, mellow and comfortable. I will definitely be visiting here much more often!

One of my clients recommended this place for the next time I came to Tucson! So when I landed and was met with the 92 degrees of dry warm weather...I thought I would give it a try because I could really use an iced coffee!! This place did not disappoint. I had the 'Toddy' cold brew with a banana muffin (made in house)! I added some Agave and cream to the Toddy and was good to go! Definitely planning to visit here again every time I come to Tucson on business.

What a scene. Stopped in mid day while running errands so I could grab a coffee. The setup was a bit different than when I was there last time. There is now a self serve coffee canister station and the employee is more like a bartender there to guide you on the products. I felt a little out of place with my daughter because most people there were on computers and phones working in there as if it were a call center. Business was getting done though. We tried to keep it down while we enjoyed our Mexican chocolate muffin and standard Colombian roast. Its nice in there and you can enjoy your coffee in a real ceramic mug if you're dining in. Even though I didn't feel I fit in with the demographic that was being represented today, the concept is great. Cute decor, clean, efficient, their purpose is clear and their passion shows. Want to be a coffee expert? Hang out here!

I am a coffee addict and I'm particular about my cafés. As a KC native, I am used to cafés with single origin coffees and brew bars...who knew that a v60 is literally a Golden Snitch of Tucson?! But this café delivered (sadly, no v60, but they do do French Press which is good). They had an awesome list of their coffees which was presented as a beer or wine menu in a restaurant. Also impressive, they roast all their beans in-house!! You can pick a coffee of the menu and take it home, if you want. I tried a Peaberry French Press and a shot of espresso, as well. With it being my first time, I wanted to try out the whole spectrum of caffeine. The espresso was good but the shining star was the coffee. A great cup of coffee! I saw on their menu that you can order a kaleffa (or something like that), which is basically a coffee brewed right in the cup...so the ground coffee will fall to the bottom of the cup like sediment. It honestly reminded me in theory of a cupping situation, but I didn't try it on my first visit...definitely next time. The baristas told me that the first time you try that drink there, it's free!! So be sure to mention that when you go if you order that :) There was a long, wooden bar to sit at, ample indoor seating for parties of 2-4, and a few tables outside. I will definitely be back!!

Was NOT impressed. Their coffee just wasn't my cup of tea. Very, very strong with rich flavors. Don't get me wrong, bold coffee is good...I just wasn't a fan of their type. I'll stick to my rattlesnake espresso! However, the staff was pleasant and the theme of the place was nice as well!

If you're a serious coffee enthusiasts then I highly recommend you check this place out! All different types of coffee beans from all over the world. For $600 they even have the exotic coffee beans that were excreted from a monkey (?) The place's decor is very hip and Eco-friendly looking. Wi-Fi for free is available as well. Customer Service is great. The gentleman working the coffee bar was very kind and patient (I had no idea what to get so I stood staring at the menu for a long while and he waited...) I opted for the Latte with Brazilian Beans. It was presented very beautifully. I personally thought that it was way too bold for my liking but that's my personal preference. You might think it's not though ;) I'll be back though to try something else!

Loved this place! Not only was the coffee good, but the barista was super friendly, super knowledgeable, and attentive. There's lots of options for coffee lovers and plenty to look at if you stick around the cafe. Ordered a cuban coffee and a decaf, both with almond milk. The place is clean, warm, bright, and inviting.

Came here for a chai latte & to get some studying done. The place is quaint & rustic. My iced chai latte was good but not sweet enough for me. Also the price was just a little steep. $5 for about 16-20 oz? I get that it's organic so you're paying a premium. Vibe was cool, barista seemed friendly.

This place is a gem. I discovered savaya by accident last year. It was here where I learned about the magic that is Turkish coffee. Best quality free trade organic stuff around. I need there to be a savaya where I live. I always make a point to grab an ice drip every time I'm in town. Pretty special. Sumatra ice drip is my favorite. If you go here make sure to tip well because the people working here deserve it.

This place certainly deserves 5 stars and the barperson did an amazing job filling all sorts of orders without help from anyone else. Very impressive and I'm sorry but I can't remember your name. However, I was a bit disappointed because I had visited the other 3 Savaya locations and all the talk I heard about this original store had built up quite an image or perception in my head that the real place fell short of my imagined vision. Minor point and has as much to do with my own ability to work things up and not any shortcoming of this locations physical appearance. I guess I had expected a larger space, higher ceilings, wider and more elegant. In a way this is a way of saying their OTHER locations are more elegant, some like Dove Mountain and Oro Valley seem larger to my eye and the third, La Encantada is nice and cozy, very intimate, probably my favorite only because it is the closest to my home and I've gotten to know the workers there the best with great shared experiences. I'll put this in caps: WHAT THIS MEANS IS ONE SHOULD CHOSE A CAFE AS THEIR HOME BASE AND FREQUENT THE LOCATION TO GET TO KNOW THE OTHER PEOPLE, WORKERS INCLUDED, SO AS TO BECOME PART OF THE COMMUNITY AND THAT WILL GREATLY ENHANCE THE OVERALL EXPERIENCES THEY HAVE BECAUSE LIKE A CHURCH, THE CAFE ISN'T THE BUILDING, IT'S THE COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE WHO FREQUENT IT. Enough said. I brought two new friends to this location so I had brought the community with me and the three of use enjoyed our 30 minutes sipping on coffee, blowing bubbles into the Guatemalan Science Coffee and enjoying one of the scones. Get out there and find your cafe and make it your cafe. With a little work you can make it a warm home away from home.

Knowledgable friendly staff, coffee done right. Love the lattes, they're espresso is nice and strong and kind of sweet. Way better than Starbucks. Kind of weird that they only offer one size, but that's no problem.

They know their coffee! It fun to take their coffee classes once a month and sample a few different beans. If you haven't tried Turkish coffee before - you must! It's a cross between hot chocolate and coffee (Brazil blend of beans) - yum!!

Cocktails sub alcohol for coffee? Believe it! I'm going strong on my no alcohol kick, so when Gretchen told me she was making a whiskey sour I got a little nervous, didn't want to refuse, and decided I'd take a sip and tell her it was too strong. I always have a plan. Little did I know she was going to sub out the alcohol for a combination of their Sidamo, lemonade and maraschino cherry juice. What the hell! It totally tasted like a whiskey sour! I didn't think it was possible. Not in that Santa/reindeer/elf sort of way, but in that, how do these things combine to make something so close tasting to a classic cocktail! She explained that the way they brew the Sidamo (literally drop by drop in these scientific looking beaker devices) combined with the other ingredients gives it the almost dead on taste. Also on this trip she prepared a red tea with cider which was festive and delicious. I don't like cider because it's too sweet, but with the combination of the tea, this was just right. Sounds like this idea of coffee and tea mixed cocktails might be gaining traction, they're talking about muddling fruits and making mojitos, so stay tuned! Also FYI you can purchase loose leaves teas for $4/ounce! This makes me happy because I've been looking for a Teavana alternative. The place isn't very "shop local."

Versatile selection of freshly roasted beans from Africa, Central America, Islands. Atmosphere is unique, tranquil and low key. The baristas are helpful once they reach you at the bar and happily offer tastings of the day's brew. They have some of the best coffee available locally in Tucson that holds up well over time. Only been a couple times but plan to revisit often to pick up more beans and sample new blends.

Savaya was recommended to me by someone at the gym I dropped in at. It was a narrow space, but cozy with seating at the bar, as well as tables. I got a spicy chai latte with a shot of espresso and almond milk! Most places don't carry almond milk, so I always get excited when I get it. Savaya also had hazelnut milk which the girl let me taste and it was AWESOME. I need to find some of that asap! The chai was very spicy (as in tons of ginger) and it was good, but a bit too gingery. Manni got a mocha and his was good but again, not the greatest mocha ever. Just a quick note - the girl working was awesome. Super friendly, laid back, really seemed to enjoy being there, and I thought it was extra cool that she knew lots of the people who came through the door (regulars, I presume). It was a nice atmosphere overall and a place that I could see people hanging out at on a regular basis.

Awesome place. Called Wednesday evening to ask when they closed. Nick answered the phone and explained that they just closed. He knew I had never been in before so he invited me to come back the next day for a drink. I took him up on the offer, went in the next day. For starters, he had me try a couple of the fresh brewed hot coffees. I personally have never tried two awesome coffees side by side. He then sat me down and brought out three different types of iced coffee. The slow drip "chemistry" coffee that they have is amazing. I could taste hints of chocolate and a subtle earthiness; very tasty. The best treat of all was the Turkish coffee he made using Sidamo beans from Africa. The sweet blueberry flavor of the coffee was phenomenal and a new experience for my pallet. He then said, "How about that drink I promised you?" I laughed and told him that I was way too caffeinated for coffee so I went with the desert rose lemonade. That was also a tasty and interesting drink, definitely refreshing. I am back today, writing this review, drinking an iced toddy. Supposedly they have coffee classes every Tuesday and Thursday night as well, for free. Go check this place out, you will not be disappointed.

This place is not close to home, so though I had been curious about it I'd not ventured. Today, I needed to go sit somewhere and study, which is what I'm supposed to be doing right now... but I had to tell you about Savaya first! Anyway, I also needed to meet a classmate who lives even further east, so I thought now was as good a time as any to check this place out. I walked in and was struck by how open the place feels, despite being small. There were beans being roasted, some people sitting, and the level of noise was very low, perfectly comfortable. I went to the counter and watched a trainee being taught to time the espresso pulls. It was a few minutes before I got attention, but that's because they were paying attention to the coffee. I asked about Turkish coffee, being Not In The Know, and the gal told me about it. She then offered me a Mastic the trainee had just made for training purposes, allowing me to taste it on the house. It was strong, clear, and I could taste the tree sap she said was there. Mmmm. I then ordered a latte, which I am happily sipping now, and tasted one of their gluten free pistachio cookies. That was hands down the best gluten free baked good I've eaten yet. I don't know how to best type out the blissful noise I am using to express how good that cookie was. Just come to Savaya, get yo'self some coffee or tea, and taste one. Your blissful noise may be different than mine, but I bet you'll make one. P.S. The bathroom is through a hidden door! Awesome.

I love this place. It is a nice, cozy local place to get a great cup of coffee or tea. New meets old here as you are in a casual and modern atmosphere yet the old ways of making natural, fresh ingredients for their customers still stand... It works and has always been the best way so why change it. Everyone is friendly and takes the time to speak with you like a real person, giving you a welcome and comfortable feeling. This is my new favorite place, as the coffee is always great, the prices are fair for the quality and so far they make the best latte I have had in town from a local, organic place. Try the pumpkin spice and vanilla together in a latte, it's a recent favorite of mine :)

Different from the big coffee chains. They roast the coffee themselves, so its really fresh. I had a mocha latte, very good. There is only seating for 18-20 people, but it wasn't busy, so that was not an issue. There was only one Barista, so it took a few extra minutes to get my order, even with the small customer load. However, they are very friendly and the coffee is awesome! Their prices are fair. Everything is $2, $3, or $4 dollars, depending on what drink you order. There is only one size choice, about the same as a Starbucks grande size. They had music playing, but not as loud as the others guys do. There is a very mellow vibe to this place. Not a bad place to hang out for a while.

I am a decaf drinking, and when a place makes coffee that doesn't taste like your drinking acid this is a place to be! I had ordered a decaf latte and it was smooth during every sip. I would give them 5 stars, but they don't serve food there and if your a market wouldn't you have some kind of food? I will most definitely go back!

Okay, I came here last week right before my nail appointment at A Lasting Touch. I was just craving coffee hard core so I asked my nail tech if I could go grab a coffee. So I went on over to Savaya and I walked into a surprisingly narrow little coffee shop, however the coffee bar was very cute and so was the decor. I loved the roasting machine in the front and loved the accents of all the bright green. Now, onto my coffee. Well, I love coffee I really really do. I hate when people dog on Starbucks because to be honest my iced coffee is on point there. Well, I was ready to have this scientifically brewed coffee that as iced and for $4 who can beat that for 16oz, right? I sat there looking awkward waiting to get helped not sure where I was suppose to go. Five minutes later a young guy said, do you know what you want? Well, I didn't I was a little lost in this place hoping the employee could guide me in the right direction. I explained I liked iced coffee with a rich bold flavor but not bitter. He said okay, didn't tell me what coffee I was getting. So I ended up getting this strong and bitter coffee-oye vey is all I can say. I also mentioned I needed room for cream. He took out the carton of half and half and handed it to me. I guess I am a little snobby I wanted them to make my coffee from start to finish. Well, with all of that being said I got my coffee(10minutes later) and I did like my coffee. Did I love it? Not sure yet I think I need to make another visit when I have more time to really figure out what this place is all about. People seem to love it I just felt the customer service was a little lacking. Though I am going to give it one more chance because I really want it to be good plush go to the ail shop two doors from the coffee shop so how perfect would that be? We shall see, for now just A-OK.

They've got everything right except for (arguably) the most important one. At both locations, drinks were made for us by untrained baristas. No amount of ethical ingredient sourcing or trendy interior design will matter if the person making the drink doesn't know what they're doing. Third star for the gluten free cookies.

A Yelp Gets Schooled event introduced me to Savaya and I have been a regular since. Savaya's coffee is simply stellar! They focus on quality beans, which equals excellent coffee. Do I love to stop by and have a French Press? Indeed, I do. I cannot count how many times I have been to Savaya since the YGS event and I have walked away a happy customer every time. Today was no exception, which left me inspired to finally review it. I met mi amiga, B for an after work coffee. We shared a french press of the decaf (Brazilian) and I had a pistachio cookie (gluten free). I have been a fan of the Brazilian and B greatly enjoyed it too. We loved the music playing (great Pandora station) and the ambiance in general was super pleasant. I may attempt to talk myself out of having coffee on one of my visits because many people rave about the Chai tea (and the teas in general). It is on my list of drinks to try at Savaya. I have to make a mention of the true fact that I was very much a fou- fou coffee drinker until I was introduced to this off the hook coffee shop. I am proud to say I have now grown up and can drink a straight up coffee with cream.

These guys take coffee seriously! They had some unique beans and unique styles of making coffee. The ice dripped coffee was amazing tasting as a iced latte. This is a great place to go if you enjoy the flavors of coffee.

While I am not a frequent coffee drinker, today we stopped in because we were in the plaza and when I saw the Market, I remembered reading a recent 5-star review. So, my hubby, who does drink coffee more frequently, didn't need much arm twisting to give this place a try. First comment, "oh cool decor" Second, "ahhhhhh it smells so good in here" Third, "WOW that's a LOT of coffee options" So, we were a little overwhelmed and intimidated, but the server was super friendly and did a great job explaining how things worked, what was already brewed, and more about the extensive selection of coffee from around the globe. The girls got a couple hot chocolates, they both commented that they had never seen white hot chocolate before...hmmmm come to think of it, neither have I. Not sure why it white, but no one cared, one vanilla flavored, and the other caramel, were both very yummy. The hubby and I chose an El Salvador blend. It was good, just like the server said it would be: floral, bright, with a strong cocoa finish. It certainly woke me up, and the hubby commented that he loved the flavor and that it didn't need to be filled with sugar. That's always a good thing!

If you're looking for a local roaster, then you may want to stop here and take a few whiffs. This guy takes his coffee really, really seriously, and it's hard not to admire the work going on here. If you're not a coffee snob and just looking for a place to hang out, it's not a bad idea. This area had a bit of a coffee shop void, and it's a very comfortable store with free wi-fi, but the main focus is on selling the beans, so there's not much on the menu. They have a rotating selection of the house roasts on brew for $2 per cup. Prices for beans range from $10 to over $60 per pound. He has a wide variety of African, Pacific Island and Latin American beans. Recommendations for your particular style are available or, if you want a sample, you can always get a french press of anything.

The espresso is exceptional. When I am in Tucson, I ride my bike or drive more than 15 miles each day just to get a coffee from Savaya . . . easily the best in Tucson. The only complaint is that the staff can seem a little distracted (friends, phone, etc.) but the drinks are consistently good despite any distractions and the store is clean and nicely designed.

  • Y H.

Big time fan of this place! I go in occasionally, not often... I don't want it to become common place, but rather a treat. I never have had a bad anything here. One time, I even went to their espresso class and it was awesome. The cost of the class was... free! We were shown, explained, demonstrated, and in the end... able to sample everything...If you have not been, love coffee...and tea... then this the place for you. If you are a stay at home Folger's type of coffee drinker, perhaps this is not the place for you. But, then again... maybe it is and you need to try it!

Really great---no, superb---coffee establishment. Without question, this is the best coffee Tucson has to offer. There are a lot of regulars who frequent Savaya, but don't worry: it doesn't take much to become one. Sit down at the bar, ask for drink suggestions, and get to know the person behind the counter. All the coffee is organic and roasted on site in small batches. Prices for drinks are fair and in line with what you'd expect to see anywhere else. Prices for whole bean coffee by the pound, half-pound, etc. are slightly higher than average, but for the quality, you'd be hard-pressed to find fault with them. So, what's good here? Well, you'll probably want to start with a press or a half-press of something; pick a region, pick a bean, pick a press size. Definitely try the Turkish coffee with a little mastic (tree resin) or cardamom. If you like pure, undiluted espresso, ask for a shot or two of that. If coffee isn't your thing, there's also a great selection of some really nice teas. Savaya is one of Tucson's best-kept secrets, but if you appreciate good coffee, you owe it to yourself to check them out. Bonus points for using Square and an iPad for payment processing.

Thanks to my buddy Corey, I have another coffee shop favorite to add to my list. Although I didn't try the coffee at Savaya because I had already gotten my triple espresso over ice fix at Raging Sage, I did thoroughly enjoy their iced Green Pomegranate tea. It was the perfect refreshment for these hellish temps we've had in Tucson. My visit was a long one, as we chose this spot to work for the afternoon. So over the few hours I spent there I noticed that they roast a wide variety of beans! Probably the most I've seen in Tucson. Their roaster is bright green and built-in to the shop. I will definitely return for a taste of their coffee, either at this shop or their 2nd location at La Encantada, which is much closer to where I live. The owner, Burc is fabulous and was chatting up a storm will all the customers sitting at the bar. His friendly energy is uplifting and It's crystal clear that he enjoys people and definitely loved roasting coffee. On our way out he insisted that we try his home-made lemonade and of course we could not refuse! He warned us that it was "a little different than other lemonades." It was so different that it had my taste buds all confused! I couldn't figure out what I was tasting, and I pride myself on my palate! Until Corey mentioned the word floral..aha! It was ROSE! This lemonade had rose in it, and it was delightful! I highly recommend it; it's the perfect refreshment for these brutal summer temps. Overall, Savaya is doing things right: awesome ambiance & owners, wonderful iced teas, coffee roasted on the premises, and definitely a place I could sit down and work for a few hours.

Like most people have said, I liked the coffee a lot. The staff and customers were very social and friendly. I found their lattes a bit on the pricey side ($5) but the regular coffee ($2) was excellent. Next time I'd go I will stick to iced coffees and skip the lattes. While it does have free wifi, I didn't find it to be the most "work-friendly" space since the shop is a bit small and there aren't many tables. When it filled up with people it also got a bit noisy. No food either besides a tiny plate of cookies, so I had to cut my time short to go get a bite to eat.

Savaya is the best coffee shop in AZ. They roast their own coffee. Everything is organic. They have an incredible selection of Chai for chai latte's including Organic Sugar-free (no artificial sweetener), and Green Tea Chai. They also have incredible high quality loose-leaf teas and steep them properly (never bitter or over-steeped). The prices are excellent for organic drinks and tax is included so the prices are nice and round without any hidden charges.

Burc is a wonderful barista. If you are coming to get a cup of coffee and run away. Go to Starbucks, although the coffee quality will be significantly worse! This place is about enjoying a great cup of coffee and if you ask, you will probably learn more than you ever thought possible about coffee. Savaya is an old world coffee shop with a distinct European feel. I love it!!!

Not in my usual neighborhood. Looked up this place on Yelp. Close. Great latte. Organic and fair trade. I am willing to pay a little more for that. Cool coffee shop. Worth putting in my gps.

Savaya is great in a lot of ways but the baristas are hit or miss. I've had great drinks at times, but today I had one of the lamest cafe lattes I've ever experienced. Too much milk, scalded taste, NO FOAM, tasting basically like a mix. It shows that great beans need also to be made correctly. I should have asked for another, but they were busy and I was not confident that it would be better. Need to go in when different people are working. It would have been okay over ice -- but that's not how I drink lattes. Sorry Savaya, we do like you a lot usually.

Coming from New York, let.s just say that I had high expectations for a good coffee roaster when I moved out west. Savaya not only accomplishes this but it acts as a relaxing haven where "everybody knows your name." They take the art of roasting even further by offering coffee tasting classes every other Saturday and espresso exploring on Thursdays to different area coffee marts. It was a pleasantly perfect find. The staff also makes tremendous recommendations for area to do's and will even recommwend trying their competition for their know masterpieces. Only thing I would request from Savaya would be to make an iced toddy part of your mainstay menu! Thanks for being a stand up world coffee mart!

The service was prompt and friendly. I tried both coffee and tea, and both were excellent. My only complaint would be that the long and narrow layout makes it seem a bit cramped.

I love this place! Such a great atmosphere. I really believe that a good cup of coffee is an art form and they seem to have created a gallery of art within Savaya. I love to support a local business and the kind employees are just the cherry on top of this wonderful establishment. Again I would recommend this place to anyone who loves classic coffee. You can get everything your heart desires when it comes to coffee...and the kicker is you will get it done right!

My mother and I were desperate for an afternoon coffee pick-me-up while doing some shopping. I am always a little skeptical of the unknown coffee joint, but my skepticism was allayed when I noticed barrels of unroasted beans. Each pound is fresh roasted at the store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We sat down for a generous and excellent pot of Sumatra for $4. I purchased a pound of El Salvadorian Roast for $14, and the pot was on the house. We returned the next day for lattes, which were excellent. The extra expense is worth it; the coffee is outstanding. While it is in a strip mall, the ambiance has a community feel. The customers are there to savor a fine product. Because great care is taken with production, there can be a wait if it gets busy. It is a local gem, something that is rare in Tucson. I hope people appreciate it and support it.

I'll save you the suspense: This is the best coffee shop in Tucson. If it were somewhere else, it would probably be the best coffee shop there, too! If you are a coffee aficionado and know what "good coffee" means... this is your place. More details: The owner is a coffee expert. They carry some types of coffee that you can't get elsewhere... like ANYWHERE. I was able to have a pound of Panama Geisha coffee ( espressocoffeeguide.com/… ) roasted here- amazing! The coffee is consistently fantastic/perfect. They have cold brewed coffee (easier on the stomach), which is prepared via a truly impressive giant, slow drip apparatus that is worth making the visit just to see! They also do Turkish coffee- fantastic! They will happily tell you all about the different varieties and teach you how to make it perfectly at home if you're interested in buying beans. They will pull out jars of roasted beans so that you can smell the different varieties and, if you want, they will make a taster for you to compare the flavors. Think of a "wine tasting" but with coffee. It's absolutely fantastic. There is wifi access, comfortable seating, nice atmosphere, and beyond helpful/amazing/knowledgeable/friendly baristas. One note of caution- if they are roasting beans when you go... leave. The place is too small for that even with the doors open. It stings the eyes and, for me, was just unbearable. Even if I've driven a while to get a coffee there, I won't stay if they're roasting. I wish they'd limit the roasting to hours when they're not open for customers. (I also wish they'd open a location closer to the university area. Yes, there are already a lot of coffee shops there, but they'd win over the competition easily!)

Caffeine addict you say?! That is a title I happily embrace my friend!!! I LOVE this quaint and cozy yet very technologically forward and mac-friendly caffeine joint. The vibe is very urban and cool. The staff is friendly. And the cashier system is on an ipad. Can you say HIP people?! Oh and the coffee is good too, great selections of coffee and tea. I will be returning soon and frequently!

All the positive reviews about this place are true. However, I have one recent concern. There has been a relatively recent change in staffing at the Broadway location and I am not sure they are as dedicated as they could be. Kind of goofing off and immature when there aren't any customers around. Not that employees shouldn't enjoy their work environment. I just think I've witnessed some things that are not very professional.

Nice relaxing joint without actually having a nice, relaxing joint. Ha comma ha. Sipping espresso here proves to me that there is a difference in coffee - the taste and texture differs depending on where you get it. It obviously matters to the barista to serve proper and they take the time and care to get your cup right. Integrity -- likely the most important ingredient in food and drink service. Savaya is not a bakery -- limited food -- but they do have the wonderful little pre-packaged biscotti which are a dippin treat. Let the biscotti absorb some of the oils and juices, then savor the semi-soft texture as it tempers and gives in your mouth as your taste buds waltz around the gentle combination of flavors. Perhaps a reason Savaya is relaxing is because it is not a bakery -- no rush to get things in the oven, out of the oven, hey where's my order, my muffin's cold, I need it now, now, now. So sit on one of the soft roomy chairs or sip in piedi presso la banca, e fare una breve vacanza for a few minutes. Prego.

This is by far my favorite coffee shop in Tucson. The roasts are all custom roast - no flat profiles here - so you won't get bored by always getting the same espresso whether you prefer it straight or cut. A variety of beans for non-espresso drinks - if you get bored here or don't like the coffee.... then you don't like coffee!

The place is beautiful, the concept is just like the way a Manhattan coffee house looks, the people are nice and the owner is an awesome guy. The girls are friendly and its a fun place to meet great people. Although I don't agree with the coffee being the best Ive had and I'm a Certified Barista with over 11 years of espresso and coffee service and I drink about 6 cups of black coffee daily. My favorite coffee at Savaya is the Turkish coffee because of its bold and rich flavor and strong coffee taste. I do enjoy fair trade and organic coffee and that is what I drink daily, I'm still hoping Savaya will create a perfect dark blend of coffee that does not have a citrus/ lemon flavor at the end of my palate.

stopped by savaya for the first time with arturo before we hit up the mall. we came in and the baristas just finished taking some orders. everyone kind of looked at us and waited before the barista asked me what i wanted. the place wasn't welcoming. i asked if they had blended coffees and she said in a condescending tone "like a frappuccino?" and i laughed and said yes and she turned away to start making it before she asked if i wanted a flavor added... awkward. later when a group of men showed up, this barista gladly went around the counter and gave the group a warm welcome. they were regulars. and thats when i realized that indeed it was a regular's place and newcomers were not as .. loved. looking around i also realized that everyone in the cafe was at least twice our age so it was also not a young person hangout either.. lots of older men on laptops and white hair ladies with alligator skin hand bags. as for the coffee, my blended caramel flavored coffee was.. meh. she put so much ice that i wasn't getting any liquid up the straw. i had to take the lid off and drink it open mouth. sadly, the coffee was harsh and burnt which is the worst thing for me. i dislike burnt coffee,.. the caramel flavor was subtle and there was a strange soy aftertaste. one thing i kind of liked was that the drink wasn't too sweet which something like Starbucks fraps can be. 2.5 out of 5 stars for the coffee.. arturo enjoyed his americano and said he would rate it 4 out of 5 stars -_- although he agreed that the service was lacking.

$4 flat for a chai latte - no extra charge for tax. No extra charge for soy or hazelnut milk. Two choices of chai - regular or ginger. Iced or hot. Not drowned by ice. Even if they didn't have compost cans, their own grinder, and made out of corn plastic cups, I would be thrilled. I was a bit confused at the style of payment - there isn't really a cash register. I went at a non-busy time, so I am not sure what it's like when it's busy. But the most expensive thing on the menu is $4. They have sugar-free syrups too if you need those. Overall, I'd recommend Savaya. It's a mix between purity of product and the trendy technology of the times.

I love buying roasted beans here, incredible! It is hard to find decaf Swiss water organic coffee beans in Tucson and this place has perfected the roast as well. The only reason I give this place 4 stars rather than five is the price of buying a latte: $5! More if you want soy, and that's the only size they have (probably a medium anywhere else), which is a little pricey for my taste. If I drive out of my way to buy beans, I'd like to hang out and get a drink while I'm there, but this is out of my range. Cool ambience and free wi-fi though not much seating, the staff is always excellent though, and they have a nifty little iPad register system that is nice so that when they're busy (right before the holidays it was a zoo, though the rest of the time mellow) you don't have to stand in line like ants.

tucson definitely needs a coffee shop like this place that has a variety of great beans and roasts, however it takes forever to get a cup of joe as they shun press pots and even individual cone drip for the onerously long wait that is french press. kudos for doing their iced coffee toddy-style, though, but they need to learn that the proportion of beans to water is not the same for every roast/bean. (by the way, you have me to thank for this item on the menu--i used to walk here at night in the hot, hot summertime and experiment with one of their first baristas on this when they had just opened). in any case, a great place if you have the time to wait for your coffee. i happen to prefer individual drip over french press so, combined with the previous fact, we only get a cup here once in a great while if we are having a lazy day browsing the shops in the williams plaza (which is actually quite pleasant). sometimes their beans are a little unorthodox, for instance a south american bean roasted too dark, or a complex asian bean roasted to lightly. still, lots of fun stuff here, although the service can be a little slow. because of their small space there isn't a lot of seating, unless you get lucky and snag one of the few tables/chairs, or belly up to the bar. would love it if they had some outdoor seating, as we quite often have our dog with us when we're visiting williams plaza.

Welcome to the antithesis of Starbucks. This place is unique, takes their time with each order and is more like a sophisticated coffee bar than a run of the mill cafe. The counter runs the entire length of the space and the barista is behind the counter chatting it up with the patrons while taking orders. The menu is limited, but has everything that a person who likes coffee or espresso would want. I ordered the turkish. Before making me my order, the barista had me smell two types of turkish and let me pick which one I wanted. Oooo....fancy. I picked the more minty smelling one over the chocolatey one. I sat down on one of the lovechairs while I waited for my order and contemplated life. This is an establishment to spend some time in, not drop by if you're in a rush before work. I wish I had more time to hang out because the turkish was delicious, the people there were friendly and nice and the decor was very welcoming. When you're here, you want to savor every moment.

I am not a coffee connoisseur and I generally hit up Starbuck's when I need some caffeine, but this place - Savaya - is truly special for coffee fans, local biz fans, and non-chain fans. Homey, sincere, and delicious. Definitely the place for coffee snobs in Central and East Tucson, and a funny thing to find in the same shopping center as Kinko's and Olive Garden...but that's Tucson for you. Plenty of parking, though Savaya definitely needs more seating, and quicker service during rushes, but the product and vibe are excellent and the service is genuinely thoughtful and helpful. The owner is present often and everything combines to make this local coffee house's environment far superior to that of any Starbuck's or Peet's. There is no food offered, so come for a genuine coffee experience. And bring your laptop, there's free Wi-Fi, and a diverse clientele - fashionistas, hipsters, students, businessy folk, and your classic Tucson casual adult. Now they just need an extra barista in the afternoons...and cookies or something...to go with their excellent coffee and welcoming attitude. Long live Savaya.

I've been a fan since I first saw the Lime green coffee roaster being installed. That was way before they officially opened. Until that time, I didn't quite understand the meaning of "Life is too short to be drinking bad coffee". This place is all about not having to do that. Fresh roasted for take home or by the cup. From the day that this place opened their strive is to make the ultimate coffee experience for everyone to enjoy

If you're stuck near the east side and don't want to fight your way over to downtown for coffee, Savaya is your answer. Let's face it: Broadway just isn't that fun of a drive. The coolest part about Savaya is that they offer coffee classes. You can learn about different roasts and drink styles and if you're really into coffee, you can suggest classes and see if they generate enough interest (I believe there was one about pour over coffee). Square accepted here. Rich's recommendation: hot or iced latte.

Amazing place, with great atmosphere, the standard coffee is pretty cheap and they even have a huge bar to drink your coffee while reading a book. I would add some more couches, but the place and decor are excellent.

Hands down, best coffee in town. I love that they roast to the best flavor rather than color. They always have a great selection of beans as well. If you're looking for a sugar bomb to hide the flavor of bad beans, this isn't the place.

  • Mike C.

Great coffee..they roast their own. It was roughly about $1 more than Starbucks for a mocha, but I enjoyed it more as well. The Barista mentioned it had 2 double shots, which is double what most places use. I'll be stopping there on my next trip to Tucson

Walked in to the quiet humming of reggae music and painted walls, with baristas in casual wear and immediately fell in love. Not being well versed in coffee myself; I was guided towards different types and flavors, including on the house samples and even a full Turkish coffee. Ended up buying another while having an intellectual conversation. After throughly enjoying myself, I took note of the location and resolved to find myself back at Savaya again.

I'm giving this place 5 stars for their regular coffee and customer service. I had two drinks while I was here today. The first was an almond milk latte which was pretty good. The second was a small French press which was awesome! Their coffee is delicious. The people working there were great and very attentive. They were just nice, not in an over the top sort of way but in a local Tucson friendly sort of way. The menu is simple but delicious. No over the top, super sugary drinks on this list. There are syrups if you want to but you are clearly encouraged to enjoy the joys of the coffee bean. The atmosphere is cool. I wish the space was a little bigger with some better tables but I sat at the coffee bar and was fine. Wifi was very fast. what else can a person ask for? :)

Our favorite coffee place. They take coffee seriously - $2 for high quality coffee of the day.

  • NikO D.

WARNING! Once you try their iced toddy, you won't be able to order iced coffee anywhere else, ever again! They have two types of iced coffee. Their $4 "science coffee", and their $2 iced toddy. Both are delicious, but I love their iced toddy! And at only $2 bucks a pop, it's (at least) a weekly indulgence! According to the nice gentleman that works there, they constantly rotate the type of bean used to make the iced toddies. So always a new twist on my favorite drink! :) I enjoy mine with just cream, but I've tried it with Agave syrup, and it was a pretty delicious treat! :) Customer service is always great. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable...and always willing to answer any questions about their coffee and drinks! They even offer classes....check out their chalkboard, or ask a barista for details! Atmosphere is pretty cool....I'm instantly transported to another city....perhaps Seattle?! ;) They only have a few small tables and a coffee bar tho...so sometimes it can get crowded during rush hour when everyone needs their caffeine fix! :)

I just discovered this spot and as a Tucson coffee junkie I have no clue why it took me so darn long to do so. It's in a convenient spot, though it's pretty small. The chill back vibe is excellent. The brewed coffee was very good and you can get a French press for the table if you choose. They had some homemade baked goods, which were delicious, but the focus seems to be on the coffee, which is appropriate. I'll be back!

I don't generally drink coffee, but when I have a craving for it, this is the only place I will buy it from. I've had nothing from here that was not awesome and I especially recommend their "Science" iced coffee ($4) if you want it strong tasting or their toddy ($2) if you want it for less! And when they say $4 it's $4, not $4.xx.

This place is in my hood so over the past year or so I have visited here frequently. Initially the kit look and feel were a real bummer for me. I still feel like it's got a Starbucks feel with all of the green in there. I have gradually got to know some of the baristas. They are all friendly and easy to strike up a conversation with if you have a few extra minutes to spend with coffee in hand. The drip coffee here is my favorite in town, and I have stopped buying my espresso beans from anyone else. Despite the kit feel this place has earned my loyalty as a Tucson coffee lover.

  • Mark G.

Savaya Coffee is unlike any coffee you have ever experienced. The coffee titans have got it all wrong! Rather than roasting beans "to color" (i.e. Dark, Blonde), Savaya roasts each variety uniquely to focus in on that particular bean's subtle characteristics and flavor. The result is something out of this world!

    (5)
  • Jenn R.

I buy freshly roasted coffee beans (of course they are coffee beans, what other kind of beans!) from this location. I rarely stay to hang out other than maybe asking the barista (always super friendly and informative) about recommendations if our favorite beans aren't in stock. It has been great trying so many different types of beans from around the world. It is a very small place and I try to stop by when it is not likely to be too crowded. Staff is always very helpful and I always tip even if just buying beans, just for the service and the opportunity to buy great international beans from a local business. Very nice atmosphere and decor, but not exactly "comfy" for hanging out.

I am finally venturing in to reviewing coffee shops. I used to review only restaurants but have decided to broaden my horizons. Although I've been to cooler, dare I say hipper cafes, Savaya serves the best espresso I have ever had. Hands down. Brazilian singe source espresso beans featured nice chocolate notes and was brewed to a perfect temperature. Turkish coffee was also nice and served in a glass as opposed to a pot.

  • Rebecca F.

I desperately wanted to like Savaya because of my love for a good cup of coffee and also because I wanted to support a local business. I ordered a latte to go and I wasn't impressed. However, I was impressed by friendly barista. I'll try it again someday.

  • Marilyn M.

I feel like this place saved my life. The coffee selection is mind-blowing, the aroma...intoxicating. Confined to the close proximity of the air base, you were a bright, shining beacon of roasted awesomeness and my sanctuary during my two week stay in Tucson. I will never, every forget you, Savaya.

  • Jessie B.

Skip 'bucks and support a local business! I stopped into Savaya on a whim, I was in the area and used my trust Yelp app to find a coffee shop nearby. It's a small, simple shop but still welcoming. A friendly barista welcomed me and gave me time to look over the menu. I decided on a dirty chai latte... I was pleased when the barista offered me a choice between normal chai and a spicey ginger chai. I was even more pleased to be given the option of regular, low fat, soy or even HEMP milk. And I was thrilled that my choices (spicey ginger chai with hemp milk) was the same price as a 'normal' drink... No lame upcharge for wanting dairyfree milk! $5 plus tax but worth every penny, maybe more. Tucsonians, you have a real gem with Savaya! If you haven't been there yet, GO NOW.

  • Kai Y.

I'm not a heavy coffee drinker but I like my cup of joe now and then. Why I like this place isn't their selection of coffee available(which seems to be extensive). Or how great their coffee is; not experienced enough to judge fairly. The 5 stars comes from the customer service and philosophy behind Savaya. Nick explained what they do there. All about their science coffee and events they hold there. I've been back a second time and he remembered my name. As well as another regular customer there. This place isn't just about selling you coffee. They truly want people to experience and learn about it.

Amazing coffee great service... If you're new to a place don't just stand around waiting for someone to come to you... Ask questions!!! They are very helpful and informative. This place is a must for those who love coffee and don't like to go to Starbucks!

Really chill atmosphere and their coffee have ruined me for all the other places I used to go to. The baristas are always so friendly and informative, so even though I always intend to get to go I usually end up hanging out.

Great specialty espresso, unpretentious baristas. Two things that rarely go together. You'll find both at Savaya. They have an excellent selection of single origin beans from nearly every region imaginable. If you want, they'll roast you a small batch on the spot. Impressive array of single cup brewing options (press, Aeropress, pourover, turkish, etc.). The espresso I had was wonderfully extracted and had beautiful, golden crema. The baristas are very knowledgeable about the coffee and were able to accurately describe each bean/roast to me. They also all seem to be extremely competent with the various brewing methods available. I also appreciated the attention to detail. They don't mind taking an extra minute here to deliver a great beverage, even when it's busy. The cherry on top was how casual and friendly all the baristas were. They happily discussed coffee with me, and even let me show them a couple Aeropress tricks when they were making me a cup. Probably the least pretentious baristas I've ever encountered. Though I was only able to visit once while I was in Tucson, I'll certainly come back next time I'm in town.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a special brew on my visit, because I was on the run and needed a to-go cup, but the pre-brew they had was delicious. Dark roasted just how I like it. I was a little disappointed at the lack of food choices - I think there was a croissant and a trail mix bar - but then I was visiting closer to noon so maybe they sold out.

I don't know who in their right mind would say this place isn't better then Starbucks. If you like damn fine coffee, go to Savaya. If you like 14 pumps of vanilla in your coffee with whipped cream, caramel and chocolate chips then go to Starbucks. I challenge you to not like this place.

Okay, right now, this minute, I'm sipping coffee I brewed from beans grown in Mexico and roasted April 19 by Savaya's panel of coffee-ologists. Can you say the same thing about your current cuppa? Case closed. I have been a coffee" fiend" for most of my adult life. But it took a "Yelp Gets Schooled" event to open my eyes to the elegant complexity of the global family of coffee beans coupled with the magic of the roasting process administered by a team of bona fide experts -- people trained to extract maximum flavor. Sure, sure. Lots of places "roast" their own beans. But just walk into Savaya and you will sense, absorb, know the difference. Savaya is an unpretentious neighborhood bar. The vibe is mellow. The barista -- hip, but blessedly free of tats and piercings and not given to annoying top-of-the-lungs gossip -- knows her stuff. Just ask. You'll get information. No attitude or annoying behind the counter gossip. HOW refreshing! Just as refreshing as my most recent glass of freshly brewed carmelized pear tea. Oh, my. I am not a tea person. But this hit the spot like nothing else on a blazing weekend afternoon in the Old Pueblo -- cooling me from lips to tummy. This is an adult's coffee house, Jethro. Appreciate the experience. Learn something. Converse. Sop up the excellent ground -ing. Tucson, we are blessed.

As a New Savayan I was impressed with the relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and top quality products here at Savaya Coffee Market. I know that I am a New Savayan because we were chatting and as someone was leaving they waved back at us and called out "Goodbye New Savayans!" I have most certainly been tagged with labels less complimentary than "New Savayan." Savaya Coffee Market makes toddy (cold brewed) coffee. If you have never tried it you should. Cold brewing extracts all the wonderful flavor and (more) caffeine than hot water brewing or steam (espresso) brewing. It does not however, extract the acids that are common in hot brewed coffee. Smooth, mild, non-acidic coffee. Yum. As a bonus, the great folks at Savaya will make drinks for you with Toddy rather than espresso - try it and you may never go back. Savaya roasts coffee on site in small batches so that anything you buy (beans or brewed) was fresh coffee beans as early as that very morning! I'm in Tucson every 4-6 weeks or so. I am making a personal commitment to visit Savaya whenever I'm in town.

This coffee-snob, foodie princess and the pea was delighted! A perfectionist making my superbly fresh latte with a mix of unsweetened soy milk and almond milk. Incredible crema and I felt very spoiled! If we had one in Las Vegas, NV, I'd be a regular!

I agree the coffee is great, the atmosphere is fairly nice. I usually get a latte with one add shot, I like mine strong and I get a medium when possible for a bit less milk. Although Savaya had great coffee it was perhaps the most costly one in the area at six dollars. One size only, latte was 5 dollars standard, if I remember an add shot was 1 dollar. I do like this place though, it's close, has good coffee and seemed very friendly. For the price and atmosphere I do like Exo coffee better though, but it's a longer drive for me. All in all, I guess for the general area Savaya does have perhaps one of the best if not the best coffee in the Craycroft and Broadway area. Even if it is quite a bit more in price. I am sure if I was just wanting a normal latte, it would be fine. If I could, I would get a four shot latte but that would probably be more than I would be willing to pay. They do have panama geisha but I saw it was 20 dollars a cup for a tasting on Saturday if I remember right, kind of nice but I can get it direct from Panama. Still nice to see they have it. Atmosphere is kind of Starbucks like, with a roaster, so a touch above. The coffee taste great. I think close but not quite as good as Exo. It was a friendly shop. A bit costly for me. But a great choice if your in the area and can't or don't want to drive far. It's well worth a stop, to see if it fits you. I updated to 5 stars. This is a great place and worth it. My second time and the baristas are very nice. The coffee class was very informative and fun. It's growing on me.

For once I can agree with other commentators that the coffee in this shop is probably some of the best in Tucson. The charge is 2$ for a cup and $1 for a refill. The water is good here, too. The pastries are to die for, literally. Your doctor warned you about this junk. THE CHIEF OBSTACLE to patronizing this otherwise decent coffee shop is the SEATING. It's ridiculous. There's a marked lack of space and comfortable (cushioned) seating in a room too narrow to accommodate private conversation and unfettered reading. The seating provided is all high tables (very high) and equally high, cushionless, metal stools. So older customers, women wearing short skirts or running around without panties, the handicapped, short people, and adolescents are going to have a real problem sitting at ease. The beautiful wood counter has nasty all steel stools (ouch and more ouch). You come away feeling punished. After going to the expense to provide coffee worthy of consumption, you'd think the OWNERS would provide for the comfort of their customers. The staff is cordial enough. Mostly. GREAT COFFEE gets 5 stars LOUSY ROOM gets one star

This review is long over due... I was in town visiting last November, and this coffee shop just happened to be directly across the street. And am I ever glad it was. Everything about the experience there was amazing. Come for the coffee, but stay for the atmosphere and people working there. And PLEASE, open a location in Chicago. I'm looking forward to stopping by in May when I'm back in town.
