Why has it taken me so long to try this place? It's been on my radar ever since I moved here a year and a half ago, but just never made it... Ended up in the area, hungry, had to pick it up and it would sit a while. Usually not ideal to get hot food, so I got the turkey sandwich. Well... It ended up being hot food, lol... But it was still very delicious. My hubs got a burger with avocado, not sure if that's a specific one or not, but he loved it. Said homemade chips were amazing. I was too busy stuffing my face with tater tots to care about trying his food. The next day we were looking for food and he gave me crap about waiting so long to try this place and it being so good. Will def come again, and will post pics... Figured yelp didn't really need pics of how the food looked togo... And will have to go for some drinks as well...

I ordered the tortilla soup last night, it was a little too cheesy and creamy for me as I preferred lighter options, but it was nonetheless delicious. The bread bowl that in came in didn't do it for me as the bread wasn't freshly baked or even toasted for that matter. What makes this place great was the awesome service and the amazing deep batter fried pickles, truly the only reason why I'll ever come back!

This place is rockin'! We went in around 11:30 today. We were greeted immediately and told that we could sit where we wanted. I was pleasantly surprised that they served RC! We were served by the owner, whom is amazing in herself. Sweet, funny and very pleasant. We ordered the three cheese and meat omelette, the good witch sandwich, a bowl of fruit and a French dip (I can't remember the witchy name of it). Our order came out fast, my mom said the omelette was pretty good. The bowl of fruit was thankfully fresh fruit, oranges, bananas, apples, and pineapple, sliced up and put into a huge bowl. Definitely worth the money. The good witch was yummy, sourdough bread, havarti cheese, avocado, lettuce and grilled chicken. I can't comment on the French dip, because it hasn't been eaten yet. Although, those house made chips are beyond amazing! With the awesome service, great food and decent prices, we will be back!

Change the fryer oil. While the first time I went to this place I was impressed I hadn't had homemade potato chips since my mom made them as a kid. Needless to say that was short lived. I have come to the determination that this place fails to change their fryer oil and has never heard of a timer. Fried potato anything is cooked just short of being scorched. The taste of the fryer oil is so heavy I can't tell if it is just over used or just about to turn rank. The last time we went, I thought I would try my standard Country fried steak its how I rate anywhere that makes it. You can tell so much from a cream gavey. If you are from the south like I am and know how to cook anyway it makes it that much harder to be unbiased. But this was a scary looking mess of grey sausage sage gravy that was separating and frankly frightening. I have given up on anything that is a fried potato there. And forget about a medium rare burger, they do not know how to get it to medium rare you get rare with a cold red raw center. Get the cook in the kitchen a timer and one of those thermometers for meat and they might might learn how to cook something.

I've actually visited this spot twice in the last weeks since it is rather close to my gf's work. It isn't too bad. It's a cool little set up staffed with an adorable and helpful group of waitresses. The food is certainly nothing to write home about. We only tried three sandwiches and none were bad but none were good enough to re order. The place was pretty busy and I can see why. The menu is large, the place is clean and the service is fine. There are a ton of businesses in the area which provide this spot with an instant clientele. I wish Samwitches well, but with all the fantastic places to eat on the east side, I don't see myself returning. Good luck.

First of all, they have pictures of these outrageously awesome bloody Mary's, (complete with grilled cheese, fried chicken, or even a burger!) on their Facebook. And when I asked about them, I was told that those pictures were outdated. Okay fine, they still had their usual intricate Bloody Mary, which was decent. Then for food, we ordered pretty much every appetizer on the menu. (How can any fried food be done wrong?) The jalapeño poppers and mac & cheese were pretty good, but everything else was not. The chicken wings were border line bloody. The nachos hardly had any cheese on them! And the cheese they use is just shredded cheese. So when we asked for more cheese, (because like.... cheese is the main ingredient for nachos..) we were brought a bowl of shredded cheese... Anyway, won't be going back.

I went here for breakfast and my wife and I were almost the only ones in the place save for a gentleman in the corner and another at the bar area. The atmosphere is fun and the food was good. There are plenty of different things to try on the menu that looked appealing and I will have to go there again and have lunch. I do need to try the namesake of the restaurant. Service was good and friendly.

The food and service were excllent but they only had an evaporative cooler so i dont recommend it in the summer

Just left this place after sitting 10 minutes without any service at all. I was acknowledged when I first walked in and that was it. I'm pretty sure I'm not invisible but no one came to get a drink order, leave a menu or to even say they'd be right with me. Won't go back.

Awesome bloody mary , incredible fried mushrooms and a great grilled cheese! Casual place with reasonable prices and a friendly staff. The bloody mary is a meal in itself.

Excellent food and service! The beer battered pickles were very good and the burger was one of the best we've had in Tucson. I had the French dip and it was very good with the homemade chips. We will definitely be going back!

Horrible service. My Volkswagen club met here on a Wednesday night. There was one waitress serving the bar and the whole restaurant. Our table had about 12. No joke it took 1 hour and 45 mins to get our food. Food was cold. Contacted the owners and no luck. Are club hasn't been there since.

We decided to try this place out today since I discovered it on Yelp. I ordered the montecristo which was WONDERFUL. It came with an awesome bacon chutney on the side that I'll probably dream about... Anyway the other sandwiches we ordered at out table were the meatball & Their Reuben. I uploaded pictures of all our sandwiches on here as we were very pleased at their presentation and taste. Our entire experience was very nice and we really loved our server. She was terrific. We will definitely be returning. Casual dress, Nice portion sizes, Great Sandwiches and we made it in, ate, and got back to work before my husbands lunch hour ended.

My mother-in-law wanted to take my husband and I to lunch for his birthday. We had wanted to try Sam Witches for a while and thought, hey, let's check it out! The decor is all Paris and witches. I really liked some of the pictures they had on the walls. And it was comfortable - we liked the booths. The menu is pretty extensive, but not overwhelming. We were hungry for burgers and burgers they do have! I opted for The Avocado, with pepper jack cheese, avocado and salsa. I ordered it medium and it was cooked perfectly. It was messy, but like my grandmother always said, "the messier the sandwich, the better!" You have a choice of homemade chips or tater tots. I hadn't had tater tots in years, so I thought, why not! I was not disappointed with the tots, either. They were crispy and you get a pile of them! (We actually had to take some home, there were so many.) So the tots were a nice change from fries. My husband ordered The Witches Schroom, with mushrooms, onion, swiss and bacon. He ordered his medium, as well, but sadly, it arrived well-done. He didn't complain, though, because he was hungry! I think because his mother ordered her burger well-done, they just made his well-done, too.) Not a deal-breaker in any way, though. It was still a good burger, so he said. He didn't offer me a bite! But from what I saw and heard, it was pretty darn good. The bacon was crispy, which is always a good thing. And yes, we had to take some of his tater tots home, as well. My mother-in-law order The Big Blue - a burger with bleu cheese, bacon and onions. She thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as her tater tots. She had to take about half of her lunch home - she is a tiny woman, after all. But she did say it was a really good burger. I'd like to go back and get one of the numerous sandwiches on their menu. Most of the time I judge a place on their Ruben sandwiches, so I'd like to see how theirs stacks up to some of my other favorites. It's cute how most of their menu items are witchy names - The Wickedly Stuffed, The Magical Melt, Bat Wings (in lieu of chicken wings) and The Bale Fire, just to name a few. As for the service, I think our waitress was new to the trade. She was not terribly attentive, although she was pleasant enough. She did not come back to check if everything was okay, until we were done eating and had to ask for soda refills and take-home containers. That was a little disappointing. But it won't keep us from going back. Overall, it was a pretty darn good lunch! I hear they have good breakfast, too. Plus it's a locally owned business. I'd rather support locals over chains any day.

It's early in the year, but so far, Sam Witches is our "find" of the year! I've known about it for a while, but haven't really wanted to give it a try. To be honest, I don't like the parking lot situation or the bar that's tucked back there. We decided to give it a try for lunch a couple of weeks ago regardless. We've been back since and haven't been disappointed yet! On our first visit, my husband and I both got the stuffed burgers. He had the jalepeño and cheese one, and I had the bacon and cheddar one. They're pretty big burgers and they were both really good! First of all, the meat was actually seasoned! Many burgers are kinda bland without the bacon and cheese, making them boring and not worth eating. But at Sam Witches, they actually use seasoning! The bun was substantial, enough to hold a juicy burger in it without crumbling. Actually, it was more than just a burger holder, it had flavor of its own, too. They stuffed both burgers generously. The cheese oozed out and it was a thing of beauty. It was scorching hot, though, so be careful on those first bites! I chose the fries for my side. They were decent. Not a homerun, but not awful, either. My husband had the homemade chips. Now those, they were awesome! Again, they were seasoned really well and they were fried well, too. They come with a homemade french onion dip, which was good, but these chips are stars on their own! Try them for sure. On our second visit, my husband had the Monte Cristo and I had French toast. Both were huge portions! The Monte Cristo is easily enough for two people, especially since it comes with a big portion of chips (or fries, or tots, but really, CHIPS). The quality of the ham and turkey seemed good. I'm not a huge fan of this style of sandwich, but I liked their version well enough. The French toast was excellent! Large pieces of soft bread are generously battered with vanilla-flavored egg and topped with powdered sugar. It's served with warm syrup, and it's just good. If you like French toast, you'll like Sam Witches version of it. As a simple side note, I also ordered two over medium eggs. I can't seem to find a place in town that knows that egg yolks should be the runny portion of the egg, not the whites. Sam Witches nailed it. Perfectly cooked eggs. The prices are way reasonable here. I don't remember anything being over $11-$12 and you get really large portions. The decor is kinda boring, but it's ok. The service has been very friendly and reasonably attentive. They kinda need to clean up the floors a bit more frequently though. We sat at a table that had all kinds of food under it. We had to sit in weird positions to avoid mushing it and bringing it into my car. Overall though, we enjoyed the food and atmosphere, so we'll be back!

Heard many good things about this place but was sadly disappointed when we arrived this morning at 11:25am. The place was maybe 2/3 filled. We were told by a staff member to sit anywhere. We chose a bar booth by the open doors. We sat for at least 10 mins without any recognition from the staff. Other tables looked impatient with dirty plates in front of them and the bill waiting to be picked up by the staff. We ended up leaving after the negligence of the staff. Will not return ever. Kdw

I beta tested the dip for their house chips so I've been a fan of this place for a while. Why only 4 stars? I feel their sandwiches don't have the sandwich-y panache you'll find at Bison Witches, which I consider to be the most similar restaurant. Take out the standard sandwiches from Sam Witches' menu and you're left with only a few options like the Monte Cristo (which is great) and the grilled meatloaf (which tastes like it sounds - this is open to interpretation). The sandwiches and burgers are made with care though. I've not had their breakfast yet but when I pass by on weekend mornings, the place seems lively so that must be doing well. They also serve alcohol now. Rich's recommendation: skip the bar and go here for a sammy or burger, an app, and some drinks.

I had just pulled into another nearby restaurant when I spotted Sam's. Decided to give it a try after seeing the high ratings of other Yelpers. Overall, it was a very pleasant casual dining experience with friendly and attentive service. I love the open doors...it gives a welcoming and cabana-like feel to it that fits our fabulous weather here. It's not a big restaurant so the open doors also give it a more spacious feel. We ordered and the wait was a tad longer than I would expect, given that it was not terribly busy. One of us ordered the veggie Herbivorous sandwich and liked it very much, though it was not a 'pick me up and munch away" sandwich. It was a definite fork sandwich. It was very generous in its serving size of "broccoli, mushrooms, yellow squash, red and green bell peppers, and red onions sauteed and served with garlic and basil infused avocado spread on an Italian roll." The homemade chips that came with it deserve a 5 star rating! I had the Club and while it wasn't anything special, it was tasty. It came with fries and they were just OK. Again, nothing special. I enjoyed it enough to return. They've been open only 2 months so hopefully with time, some of these points will improve.

Sam Witches is an amazing restaurant bordering the north eastern part of Tucson. Great serving staff, I've never sat more than 20 minutes from arrival to food on the table. Always courteous, and quick to bring drinks and refill them. Now the food. I've tasted most of the plates on the menu and haven't been disappointed once. Dishes are cooked exactly as described, and to your preferences. There was one instance where the staff made an error on our order, and promptly fixed it with the correct one while boxing the wrong plate to go to enjoy later. I highly recommend this place, and will continue to drive out of my way to dine here.

Been here twice during lunch and dining room was busy. First time there the owners were on scene and the food and service was spot on. Next time, neither was there and the food and service were just as good. I think the prices are reasonable considering what and how much you get. We'll continue to support this local gem.

I finally made it to this place for a what I have heard is a great sandwich. Well I was not disappointed. The Italian was one of the best sandwiches I have had the meat was piled high and spicy flavors blended together and the fresh veggies on top were prefect. My wife had a bread bowl of tortilla soup and she said it was very good. The service was great - an enjoyable experience.

Awesome food! Good portions & great home cooked taste. Decent customer service, wait time is usually pretty good for your food. Haven't ordered anything on the menu yet that wasn't delicious.

Went there after seeing picture of the Bloody Mary's from Sunday. When arrived I wad told they are not available only on Sunday. Bummer. When the drinks arrived the waitress did make them pretty awesome so kudos to her! Then we ordered food, I had the blue burger asked for it to be medium rare, it came out really dark and only one or two bites had any pink in it at all. The chili my son ordered with bacon wrapped taters was just plain gross. We don't send our food back, plus he was very hungry. The burger although it looked really good was actually tasteless. Another disappointment in food outings in Tucson! I'm sure it's the food God's telling this foodfatty to stay home and cook or go to a salad bar instead! I mean really, how can they screw up a salad bar anyways? oh, and is worth mentioning, the next few days after eating the burger, I was sick, like really really sick for two days with twisting turning horrendous stomachs cramps and all that come with it. Food poisoning, mmm, maybe? For sure a sign from the food God's!!!

  • Christopher R.

I usually go there for breakfast on the weekends and I'm partial to the breakfast burger. The burger is always cooked to perfection and just the way I like it. The service is fast, friendly and just makes you want to chat with your server. At times is can get a little packed but the outdoor seating is always enjoyable of it's not too hot outside. If you decide to get a Bloody Mary you will not be disappointed. I guarantee it!

Went for the first time last night, read the mix reviews so had to try it for myself. Was not impressed at all. Ordered my to-go order there, they got my order wrong took them 10-15 min to bring out the right sandwich. Ordered the fried pickles, I do not recommend them, they are greasy and burnt, also got the special which was a cheese stake with jalapeños with tater tots, the sandwich was dry and the tots had no flavor. My girlfriend got the club, she had little to say about it. I felt like it was the first job for those two girls working. It was a waste of money and time trying out this place. Will not go back.

Great Food!!! I had the Turkey Bacon Ranch Melt. It was perfect!! My husband had the Blue Burger. It was cooked just right. They were heavy on the fries/ tater tots on both plates!! Eat Local!!

I have been waiting to write this review for some time. The first time I went they would have gotten a star and a half. But they were new and I wanted to give them time to work out the kinks. I was excited to see this place go in as I live and work nearby. I have now been there a total of five times. Three times for breakfast, once for lunch and once for dinner. So this review encompasses the gamut of meals. They land right in the middle at two and half stars... largely due to service. Every time, without fail, there have been service issues: LONG wait times for food, inattentive servers, understaffing, etc... but the the food has always been pretty good. I will only offer details on our most recent visit; dinner. At first, they did not serve alcohol, while they were awaiting their liquor license. They have since gotten their liquor license, but let me tell you, when you order a "cocktail" that's listed on the menu cards on the table and then you see three employees at the bar looking at the same menu card while they are trying to fix the "cocktail", it doesn't instill great confidence. Not to mention that we did not receive those "cocktails" until after we received our food. Aren't "cocktails" meant to be enjoyed before dinner? OK.. I sound like a snob, but if I had known I would be halfway through my burger before I ever got my "cocktail", I would have just ordered a beer. Speaking of my burger... I ordered it medium. It was CLEARLY well done. I did enjoy the char on the burger as well as the burger itself (although the hand cut fries were soggy), but I have another bone to pick. My burger was supposed to have caramelized onions, but came with thinly sliced red onions, my "cocktail" was supposed to come with bleu cheese or anchovy stuffed olives, but came with plain pimiento stuffed olives. If something is offered on the menu, it should be delivered. Someone else said this place suffers from an identity crisis. That's a spot on comment. Sam Witches and Such has decent food. Service is spotty. They need to decide if they want to sacrifice service to bewitch people with potions, aka "cocktails", or focus on the food, which is where, I believe, they could really cast a spell.

Stopped for breakfast, having no idea about this restaurant, we decided to stop in..breakfast was terrific and the portions were very generous. I like crisp hash browns, which were done to perfection The next day my wife suggested we go for lunch because she was fascinated by the lunch menu. I can't remember the names of what we had. My wife had a stuffed hamburger with cheddar and bacon. She loved it. I had their French Dip which was packed with meat. Was good and satisfying but would have like the au jus a little spicier..definitely have the homemade potato chips with your Sam Witch. Also our waitperson, Tori, was terrific for both of our meals This place is definitely on our "to go to" list whenever we are in tucson to see the grandkids. Oh yeah, their parents too!

The food is made scratch and completely fresh. I had the chicken fried chicken which was the best I have ever tasted. I recommend this for breakfast for anyone who wants a new breakfast experience. The coffee was fresh and very tasty. This place is my new favorite!!

I only go here on weekends for breakfast. The service isn't always fast, but it isn't always slow either. If I walk into a place that has all of its tables full, I expect my order to take a bit longer than normal. The few times I have been here and it was empty? Very very fast service. The best part about this place? Bloody Mary's. 5 bucks and they stack them high with everything from bacon and sausage, to pineapple and Girl Scout cookies. They look like architectural works of art reaching 8-12 inches above the pint glass. It's like a drink and an appetizer in one. The pancakes are great, and the omelets too. I've always had good luck for breakfast.

I ordered the Club-Witch with homemade chips and Lemonade and it was fantastic! The sandwich was huge, full of meat and flavor. The chips were hot, straight from the fryer and best homemade chips I've ever had including my own. The French Onion dip was to die for and I've always considered french onion to be somewhat mediocre, I didn't ask but it has to be homemade as well. The lemonade was refreshing though I prefer rather tart lemonade, this was very nice. Service was fast, re-visits while I ate weren't too often or not often enough, just right. Atmosphere was clean, bright and enjoyable. I will definately be returning again and again and again.

I have only been a couple of times but every time I go I am pleasantly surprised. It is not over priced and you get a pretty good amount of food with every order. I went with some friends and we all got different sides to share cause we couldn't decide which one we wanted. The home made potato chips were my favorite. Honestly haven't had any potato chips better then these I would recommend them for sure. Great place to have a business lunch because it is not to loud and the atmosphere is very friendly.

I was really excited about checking out this place. I was disappointed. Everything was very greasy Potato-chip wasn't great. I'm not a picky eater as long as food is edible but it was so greasy I just couldn't finish my food I had a much better sandwich at the Subway.(Sandwiches we order look nothing like Ones in the pictures)

My girlfriend and I went there for a weekend afternoon lunch. First, the good: Zucchini fries: very tasty and came out hot and fresh. Homemade chips: also very good. I got tater tots as my side with my burger. You get a good sized portion and they are excellent. The bad: I got the western burger. When it comes out, it looks fantastic. It looks so good you're salivating just waiting to get a bite. And then you take a bite. You find that it's dry as a hockey puck. There's literally no juice left in the burger. It also doesn't seem to have any seasoning. Your mouth watering looking burger is just... blah. So blah that you don't even finish half of it. In short, this would be a great place if they fixed the burgers, and I hope they do.

Start with the good... Two stars are for the Bloody Mary and chips. Awesome Bloody Mary, if that's all I had, I would've gone with 4 stars. I had the grilled chicken sandwich, the chicken was barely edible. It tasted completely like char gas from the grill. The bread and avocado were good though. Another review mentioned they thought it was the first job for the 2 girls working, I think we had the same servers. They had zero urgency - extremely unenthusiastic, but friendly enough. Our server came to clean the table when we sat down and the rag she used smelled awful! Very unappetizing. It also took half an hour for our sandwiches to come out - it was not busy at all. I wasn't impressed, particularly for $10/sandwich.

Well we decided to try a local small business sandwich restaurant and it was a big hit. All the food is local or homemade; to include the bread, chips and dipping sauces. I had the French dip and it was extremely good. The owners stopped by our table and explained that the meat is also hormone free. Between the prompt friendly service, delicious food and great prices we will be heading back soon.

For the longest time, I have been in search of the perfect Reubens. The last contender was Cantor's Deli in Hollywood. I've been going back here for months now and it continually fails to disappoint. Consistently the finest Reubens I know.

We have tried it 4 times (2 dinners, 1 lunch and 1 weekend breakfast). Service is S-L-O-W. Everytime we were there they were understaffed, even on two occasions when the restaurant was relatively empty, the food coming out of the kitchen was extremely sssslllllllloooooowwwwwwwwwwww. Food served did not match up with what was described in the menu. Each time our slight variation to our order was NOT communcated with the kitchen; omelete said in had green chilis, but no green chilis found, only a few diced green peppers; wanted burgers medium rare, came well done, got types of cheese wrong on burgers, etc. Very slow on refilling drinks, even water. Recently tried establishment several more times.... tried other sandwiches, but disappointed... did not like Monte Cristo. Disappointed in breakfast. Stick with the burgers... the burgers are usually very good (although on our recent last visit 4/6/14 we brought 3 new customers... our burgers were overcooked... ordered medium and medium rare, but all came out well done. Server informed us they were out of fries! House chips are very good with French onion dip, but not what our guest from Ohio wanted. Sandwich/burger resautarant out of fries???? And only one server again. Never did get drink refills. And no manager present.

We ate here on a weekday about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. The bartender was our server & was very friendly. I ordered the Rueben & it was DELISH! They certainly don't shy away from piling on the meat, the sandwich was huge. My only critique would be to have a better meat to sauerkraut ratio. I love sauerkraut and wanted some more. I also ordered some spicy mustard on the side and it was the perfect touch for my Rueben. My husband ordered the club and his sandwich was sizeable & very good as well. For our sides we ordered the fries and the highly recommended house made potato chips. The chips were good & crispy and came with some yummy dipping sauce, no idea what was in it but it seemed to be some type of mayo based situation (very good). The chips did need some seasoning though, even some simple salt and pepper. The food was good, and while the amount of food you get is awesome, it still seemed a bit pricey. I think we paid about $30 for two sandwiches and two iced teas. I can only imagine what our bill might have been if we had a beer with lunch, or maybe an appetizer. Probably close to $50. More than I prefer to spend at a sandwich shop, but still good. I would probably return for a Rueben craving, but consider it a treat seeing as it's a little expensive.

Finally decided to stop in and give this place a try. I had the French dip with homemade chips. Sandwich was very good. Daniel had wings and they looked good. Daniel had the fried ice cream and said it was not as good el charro but he ate it all. Very clean and friendly staff

Love this place. Waitresses and staff are very friendly and a bunch of regulars. Steady patronage in the morning during breakfast. Bathroom has old style faucet. It is pretty cool. There is a hole in the wall from the door slamming open by a guest, but the decor is nice. Alot of booth seating along the wall. Cozy spot for more private setting. Small bar area, with limited amount of alcohol on hand. Service is awesome, I don't what these other "customers" are smoking. Sometimes there's only one server, and she has to pick up the food from the back. If she doesn't notice you come in and seat yourself, well, that's the customer's fault. She usually is quiet busy moving and taking care of people she can see. Can't please everyone. . .

It was very good. We'll go again. The fried pickles are over battered, and it was pricey for sandwiches and beer, but overall I really enjoyed it. French dip was delicious and my boyfriend got the Guinness Burger which he was RAVING about.. which he isn't one to rave, so we'll be going back.

I am going to echo what a few other people have: the service was pretty slow. It took about 20 minutes for our 2 sandwiches + fries to make it to our table. Sandwiches should never take that long. It was especially annoying considering that I saw 3 employees sitting at the bar watching Fox News for a good 5 minutes after our order was placed and there were exactly 2 other tables in the restaurant. After waiting for so long, I was hoping we would get a super tasty sandwich, but it was strictly "meh" and kind of small, especially for the price (all of which were a little on the high end). Besides this, the employees come off as kind of surly and moody, and one of the cooks was proudly displaying his "Whiteboy" status on his hat. This is all pretty disappointing considering the lack of awesome sandwich places on the East side. Guess I will keep heading downtown!

This spot is close to my house, and I wanted to like it. I have been there twice, and both times the service has been really bad. The first time I went, after sitting down, nobody greeted us for over ten minutes. We left. I was hoping this was just an aberration, so I was willing to give it another try. The second time, we were greeted quickly, by a nice and attentive waiter. We ordered, and we waited, and waited, and waited. There were only a few other people eating, but it still took a half an hour for our breakfast order to be served. We needed to meet someone, so I politely told our nice waiter we needed to get moving. He apologized and said he was working with the kitchen to get the food out. As to the food, my son ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. He really liked it. The eggs were good and steak tasty and tender. I ordered the club sandwich, which was fine, but nothing about it was special to make me want to come back for it. In the end, the food did not justify the service. Thanks, but I won't be coming back.

We popped in for breakfast, and immediately liked the wide open French doors and stainless tables, although most were deserted and dirty. To be fair, even miniscule crumbs are clearly visible on these tables. My fried egg sandwich suffered from runny yolk and burnt bacon syndrome. The two made an odd pair between overly-crumbly toasted rye, and with no condiments this didn't impress. They seem to do fried more smoothly. The chicken fried steak was delish. I'd give them another go when I jones for grease.

Give this new place a try! Fantastic Rubens, French Dips, and great burgers. Super friendly service and it looks like they've quickly built a loyal following.

Came in thinking this was a carry out place, but stayed and had a burger anyway. Very pleasantly surprised by the jalapeno burger and chips/fries! It took longer than I'd have liked, considering the limits of lunch hour. But the waitress was very very friendly and despite my initial negativity, I was won over. Great place for a greasy burger. Don't bother with breakfast though - not good.

After reading about the Monte Cristo from other reviewers we headed right over to check it out! We were seated promptly and our server, Nicolette, was very nice. She was attentive and prompt. We brought an angry 1.5 year old with us and as soon as we were seated she got a complimentary bowl of cheerios and strawberries, which calmed our little monster right down. The service was 5 star the whole time. The food was probably only 3 stars. They were out of french fries, yet had homemade chips and tater tots. (Why didn't they just slice up some potatoes and pop them in the fryer, wahla Fries!) My husband had the lunch special. It was a sausage flatbread but should have been called a pizza. He said it was great. I had the monte cristo of course. It was good. They served it with a bacon jam, which was interesting but I would have preferred strawberry. The house made chips were good, but I didn't love the "famous french onion dip" it was served with. Overall, for our sandwiches and the little ones chicken fingers our bill came to $25 before tip. We had more than enough food. Hubby was stuffed and I brought half of my monte cristo home, where I fully intend to dip it in strawberry jam for dinner. We will probably go back again, but I doubt I will be begging to return tomorrow.

Service was very good, we were acknowledged a few steps OUTSIDE the door, she was quick with the drinks and the food also came out very quickly and the place was about half full. We had the French Dip and the pastrami samwitches. Both were very very good and I loved the house made chips. The french onion dip was a really cool idea, but it was pretty flavorless. The pastrami samwitch puts the HUB's to shame. I do realize they received their liquor license fairly recently, but I would have liked to have had some draft beers. Their bottled beer selection was ok, but way over priced. $4.25 for a 12oz bottle is too much. It is a bit pricey overall but I will definitely be back.

Really great home made chips. You can tell they care about the quality of food they put out.

We stopped in around 1 p.m. this afternoon for some lunch. Wifey was complaining about being hungry but I was as well. The place wasn't that busy with maybe three tables of folks ahead of us waiting on their food. So let's keep this fairly short and to the point. Servers: Very nice and attentive. Drinks were out in five minutes with extra ice, it was 90 degrees outside and, you know, doors open and no air conditioning. Plenty of attention and hustle. TVs: All the TVs were tuned to this afternoon's Diamondbacks-Colorado baseball game. Not at all interested. Service: A bit slow today. We made our order when we got our drinks. We both wanted the Reuben with fries. I mean, why not? Our sam-witches did eventually show up. A full 40 minutes later. We watched with amusement as each table ahead of us (about three) had their orders brought out. And sure enough, at about four minutes wait time per sam-witch served ours did make it out. The sam-witches were warm and the fries hot and fresh. Plenty of catsup, mayo and mustard had been brought to the table ahead of time. I'm pleased to report that the Reubens were the second best I've had here in Tucson and Wifey was very happy with the fries as well. We squirted the catsup all over them and made them go away. So, yes, the food was good (enough). Other observations. We watched as the servers brought others their various burgers and all looked good. On the way out, I saw a plate of onion rings that looked worth trying. So we'll go back but only if we have plenty of time. Better hope people show up a few at a time. If a crowd shows up all at once you will likely starve to death.

It was a cold evening in November and all the doors (about 4 of them) were open. This is confusing because you don't know where to enter or if you seat yourself or wait to be seated. The cold metal tables aren't very inviting either, in fact it's just not a warm inviting atmosphere. No prices for wine on the menu but there are prices for their specialty drinks! With your sandwich you get your choice of either fries or homemade potato chips -- not much of a choice if you ask me. Potato or potato! I asked the server if I could substitute something else for the potatoes, and she said no! Okay, well then, I ordered the chips (which were brown and overcooked) and was sorry I did so. They were served with a blob of thick onion dip that broke the few chips I did eat. Hm ... dip with your dinner? This was confusing as well. I was really just wanting something fresh on my plate to go with my sandwich, so will need to go elsewhere from now. The bacon on my sandwich was dry, hard, and overcooked. Server never came by to ask how things were and made herself scarce. Had to flag her down for the check. By the way, there were only people seated at 2 other tables. On the positive side, my husband said his sandwich and his beer were good!

The food was fantastic and we received great service. The Italian sandwich was so good I wanted to keep eating even after I was full. The homemade chips were perfect. It would have been nice to know the chips spice of the day prior to ordering. Only when we were finishing did we find out the chips are spiced differently each day. My husband and I are looking forward to trying the breakfast menu on our next visit. The only downside is the very noisy bar in the lot next door. Possibly why it was empty on a Saturday evening.

Driving around looking for a breakfast place on a Sunday morning and this one just jumped out at us! Looks like they are pretty new...building was very new looking compared to the surrounding bars. The staff seemed like they were still getting their mo-jo down...but they were all very friendly and very good. Inside was clean & nice. Looks like it is more of a happy hour kinda place. They had a decent breakfast menu...didn't see any of the other menus. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with hashbrowns. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with hashbrowns...and we split a 1/2 order of pancakes. The pancakes were good...to me...they were super cakey and fell apart in crumbles. My husband likes a sturdier pancake. They tasted like cake too! The chicken fried chicken was good...gravy was amazing...had little pieces of sausage crumbled up in it. Same with the chicken fried steak. Both meals were very filling and satisfying. Overall very good...not sure if I would go back because I love some more breakfast items to choose from on the menu. I usually go for an eggs benedict type meal which they didn't have. It was good though...would recommend if you are looking for a quick, clean, local place. Has that "everyone knows everyone" vibe there. Most of the other diners all knew the staff and each other! All very friendly too....

Friendly staff, but have consistently gotten overcooked burgers (ordered medium rare and got medium well). This last time, their "famous" chips were not so great. Maybe a different chef. Overall, disappointed, but we hope they are paying attention, because ideally we would like to come back.

That's it - never again. The "Discount of Monte Cristo" - you can wring out oil from every slice of bread - that they were at least kind enough to discount. Should rename the sandwich the Monte Crisco. The napkin was stained, the silverware either dirty or heavily water spotted or both. Inedible and dirty. Pray for the dearly departed.

My husband and I ate at San Witches and Such and enjoyed this restaurant. The restaurant is clean, the staff friendly, and the food was delicious. The creative names of the menu is fun! The food is excellent. We had sandwiches and the ingredients were fresh, plentiful, and filling. Give it a try and have fun.

A great addition to the neighborhood. The Reuben sandwich doesn't skimp on the corned beef and is served on an excellent marble rye. The homemade chips and the accompanying dip were an unexpected treat. Looking forward to returning.

Ok this is my 3rd time trying this place and it is time for me to write my review. The first time I went was when this place first opened so I couldn't review it cause the service and food was terrible, I put that down to just opening, the second time it took 40 mins for my burger that was way over cooked and cold fries but it was late at night. So finally it's 4pm on a Saturday afternoon this place is dead and I can see why I got a Reuben that is really salty on soggy bread and a French dip for my girl that was the worst she's ever had it took 45 mins for a to go order. I won't be back and this is way over priced

We ate here for the first time last weekend. Pretty good food and a decent selection of beer. My son loved the tater tots. We would definitely go back again. The only thing that was weird was the two person band that was playing. I appreciate the effort but it sounded like elevator music. It just didn't fit the rest of the ambiance. Overall, it's a solid place to get a good sandwich or burger. I would be interested to try it at lunch time.

awesome service. Nice to see the owner walking around asking how we liked our food- made it feel very personable. Food was exceptional and the chips were heavenly- and i'm a health nut who doesn't eat chips-yet I found myself eating the chips off my friend's plate. Really good portion sizes- a big plus for a graduate student on a strict budget. I am already planning my next visit back.

The food was quite good, overall, nearly everything seemed to be made in house. As others have said the homemade chips are great. They also make their own french onion dip with, heaven forfend, real chunks of onion in it! I had a fireman burger, which was put together pretty well. The meat, though, seemed to be overworked and under seasoned, my dining companion noted that her burger was similar. The fried pickles were also quite nice, and some of the better ones in Tucson, with a tempura like batter. The service didn't quite hit the mark, we had to explicitly ask each time for water refills. With one other table in the restaurant, that's a bit annoying. I can't take off anything for the uncomfortably loud and drunk construction worker that wandered over from the cow pony and seemed to know everyone, but that wasn't a positive either. Despite that, I'm still a fan and will definitely return to try their other sandwiches.

Returned for lunch on 06/07/13 with a few friends. Couldn't help but order the pastrami sandwich again and because it a large portion, I shared it with my girlfriend and was stuffed. Others in my party order the daily special that was a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado, bacon and cheddar cheese and she thought it was delicious. The only disappointment was the plain jane hamburger. Even though she ordered it well done, it was overcooked and flavorless. Stick to the sandwiches and you'll enjoy your meal.

First I have to start out saying the waitress was very friendly, but a bit slow. Waited a very long time for our food...there were only 3 other tables. The seating area was very clean with nice decor. Food was just okay, but nothing special. We had a burger and the meatloaf sandwich. The best part of lunch was the fried pickles, huge and very good flavor! We left thinking we might give it another try...maybe they were having a bad day. After being home for a hour my husband and I got very sick(just glad my 7 yr old was fine). We were a little off the rest of the night. We are very sure it was something we ate at this restaurant. We will never go back. To bad because the east side needed some new places. If you want a really good burger or sandwich just go to Zinburger or Bison Witches. Don't bother with Sam-Witches and Such.

Amazing food! My husband and I shared their Monte Cristo, Jalapeno Poppers, and homemade made-to-order potato chips. Wow! So many custom sides and dips. It does take time to make your order as they're making these all from scratch. But we had a wonderful time. Great service too.

Well what guy does not enjoy a great Sandwich. I had he meatloaf sandwich, the meatloaf is made with green chilies and bacon. Winner!! The quality is a one the service was a 5. The girl of took care of us was great and the owner or manager worked the floor. When I see owners with guest I always come back it. I am a softy for a hard working owner. Oh a add plus the whole staff is beautiful with a capital B. you have to try this place fore sure.

My husband and I decided to try this new restaurant on a whim, boy are we glad we did, I think we may have found our new favorite place. I always like to try the same thing at a new restaurant, so of course I had the French Dip, for me this sandwich tells me all sorts of things, the quality of the bread, is the meat dry, is the au jus too salty etc. My husband had the stuffed bacon and cheddar burger. He went with the french fries and I had the homemade chips. Both sandwiches were GREAT! My French Dip may have been one of the best I have ever had, I say may as the french dip I do at home is exceptional, but this was neck and neck. I would go back again just for the Chips, the flavor of the day was Ranch, I didn't really need any flavoring the chips were spectacular. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his burger, just beware, when he bit into it juice went everywhere including all over the sleeve of his shirt. The burger was a bit to rare for me, I don't like even pink ground beef and this was beyond that, but he thought it was perfect. Will definitely be going again.
