LOVED Rialto's new little side bar!!!! We went in this past weekend for their grand opening and while our biggest complaint was it was HOT, we got over it and settled in for a some tacos and very tasty cocktails. Gio Taco sends a server over every now and then to do a lap of the place and take orders for tacos and snacks. Then when the food is done they bring it in to-go bags. Very creative and a great way for both businesses to make some money. When we arrived the place was almost full so we ventured upstairs and got a seat by the window. We had a couple beers, enjoyed our tacos and then hoping the downstairs would be cooler we moved to a booth. Unfortunately it wasn't but we stayed and switched to some of their craft cocktails. They have a peach julep that's delicious and a great variety of unique beers on tap and in bottles and cans. To top it off service was fantastic!! All the servers/bartenders were running around doing everything and helping each other out as much as they could. We never waited long for anything and had a great time. Finally I absolutely loved their metal mural that takes up the whole north (?) wall, beautiful! Great job Rialto!

Came in for a drink before Built to Spill last week. Nice little hideaway bar to hang out during openers/between sets, as you can hear the music pretty well. Convenient to be able to slip out the side door of Rialto and get a drink here rather than pay $8 inside. While the prices were a bit steep for beer, they had a good selection and the bartenders were cool. It gets crowded, so you'll probably have to stand a while and push your way through for a drink, if you're not the aggressive type. But overall, nice spot in the alleyway next to Rialto. Good outdoor seating and cool decor/giant screen playing movies. Wouldn't make this a regular spot unless I was a swanky downtown dweller. But will definitely come back during another show. If your favorite color is red, you'll love this place. If you have a weird phobia of red, take this as a red alert.

R Bar makes the most of its tight space. Tucked in behind the Rialto and World of Beers, R Bar is head-to-toe red. The enormous back-lit steel installation on the back wall is a virtual Where's Waldo? covering life in Tucson, complete with a border fence and a saguaro fruit harvester. A projection screen plays Anime and kitsch classics on one glass wall which does double duty as the ladies' restroom wall, livening up the stalls with backwards cinema. In the little upstairs loft, round adjustable chairs provide an interesting diversion. The indoor/outdoor bar opens onto an intimate patio where hipsters pose in sailor shirts and smoke cloves. The cocktails are creative and pack a punch. R Bar is a much-needed infusion of high art and fashion in an area that used to be known for shabby deshabille. I think I heard someone whisper "redrum" as I walked down the back hallway.

Amazing atmosphere! I liked this place, it's so cool and relaxing and romantic. Even the bathrooms here are really nicely decorated. There are some really funny/cool chairs up on the top level. Not many choices for beers on draft, but we were satisfied. Great for a date/before or after dinner, or a concert.

Came here with a friend mid-week before a concert at the Rialto (7-ish). I was a bit surprised it was so dead; maybe it picks up a bit later (?). It certainly doesn't make the silent visual on the wall of a train weaving through the mountains of Europe any more appealing. Sitting at the bar, surround by red decor and relative emptiness, reminded me of a shameful last call at a dying dance club... the one you don't want to see in the daytime. Our first bartender DID whip us up some good first-round cocktails. But our hopes were soon dashed when another bartender took over. He looked relatively inexperienced, and didn't acknowledge us for several minutes while our drinks were empty. I guess we didn't deserve another round... we finally had to make obvious eye-contact Oddly, our Gio Taco order came and we paid, but the waitress promptly took the bag and disappeared. Initially we assumed she was going to plate our food... who knows. About 10 minutes later, someone (the manager?) came out again with our food and apologized, but didn't give a reason. It remained a humorous mystery to us! I won't be drawn here for a repeat visit... perhaps for a pre-show drink, but with renewed expectations. They DO have potential to improve...

I am loving this place! They make the BEST old fashioned in town. Seriously amazing. Catherine, one of the bartenders, is incredibly sweet, professional and again, makes great cocktails. I love the decor as it captures Tucson's essence with it's red walls and silhouettes ...My new favorite spot :)

My favorite new discovery in Tucson! The atmosphere and decor are amazing. Great staff and it was to fun to watch a large screen Charlie Chaplin movie. I will be a regular!

New snaz R-bar turns the tables on bars in Downtown Tucson. It's rad but ritzy, and at the same time has that good old easy attitude of Tucson. (Though definitely not for the KTS crowd - translation: Keep Tucson Shitty.) Tucked in the Rialto Alley, next to world of Beer, Geo Taco, and across the street from Hi Fi, Hotel Congress, it's got all the trappings of a secret find that you stumble onto in New York, situated square in the big action. Interiors in bordello red new style will knock you out, as will the red metal cactus-shape lights, honest! Pretty much a bar-bar, not much or any, food. but it reeled me in...I'm going back, and back. Handy for shows at Rialto and Congress.

Okay I don't know what they were thinking......the inside is "kind of cool" but nothing to write home about and it is very small. If you enjoy sitting in an alley on a warm night then it might not be so bad as they have tables etc outside. To top it off it is warm inside not sure if their A/C is broken or what but the big fan in the corner wasn't helping much. Lastly the Men's Restroom single user one toilet......in a bar?! Don't know about drinks or anything like that as I couldn't stand to stay.

Two words. Hip lounge. The Old Pueblo mural/sculpture/light show is worth the visit. Another cool spot for the Tucson hipster crowd and feels less like a college student hang out vs some of the other local spots. Thanks to Andre N. for putting me on another cool Tucson spot!

Ok R Bar there's a reason you're missing a star. It's your hours dude! You used to open at 4, and now it's 7. Do you realize you've already missed out on a few hundred bucks from some of my friends alone? They drink when they get out of work, and R bar was the cool new place to do that. Great drinks, drinks that make Congress look sheisty and sad, style to the max, and a comfortable patio. The best new place to open downtown in the past few years, I'd say. Please go back to your old hours. Thanks red town

Really cool noon profit bar. Part of the rialto. Some cool custom drinks and good selection of craft beers on tap.

Very poor customer service! My husband and I went last night to enjoy a drink after the U of A game. We had a seat and waited to be acknowledged (it was not very busy in there). One of the waiters looked at us and simply ignored us although he walked right by us. After waiting 15 minutes, we decided to leave and never return here again. In this day and age, I couldn't believe a local business could pass up earning a new customer. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

Awesome place to relax. Nice staff and awesome iron artwork depicting all of Tucson in a nutshell. Perfect little intimate hideaway!

I would like to think that we were just unlucky and got the wrong bartender to serve us because the cocktails we drank were possibly the worst drinks we have ever ordered. We were wandering around Tucson when we stumbled upon R Bar tucked away in the alley. The three of us thought the outside seating area looked cool and reminiscent of places we've been to in Europe. Well, the experience we had taught us to never judge a bar by its cover. We sat at the bar and ordered two cocktails from the menu. After watching the bartender crush some ice in a pouch and vigorously shake the cocktail shaker for awhile, we thought we were going to get some refreshing alcoholic treats. The end results were nothing but disappointing and quite shocking in taste. We ended up taking couple of sips and leaving the drinks behind. I don't think I have the courage to try this bar ever again considering there are many places to drink around the area.

I came here on Monday for happy hour. I was meeting with a couple of people to go over some business, and we decided to try out this new bar. Oh my goodness i loved it! Finding it in the alley is a little uneasy since it just doesn't seem like this nice of a place would be over there. There is a patio space with tables and chairs, and then you walk in right next to the bar. The bartender greeted me immediately and told me a bit about the place, and gave me a menu. I loved that they had menus because I can never tell what the taps are. I had dragoon's ojo blanco. Very delicious, I liked that they had many local brews. The entire place is red in color, which is cool and unique. There was a weird old movie playing on the wall. I didn't quite understand that and thought it was distracting. When my colleagues arrived, one decided to order chips and guac to share. These arrived via Gio Taco courrier. I think you can order whatever from there, which is really cool. It definitely allowed us to stay there longer since we had chips to munch. As the bar filled more it still remained pretty quiet, which is so hard to find in Tucson. I hate bars that just want to be loud and play loud music all the time. It's always impossible to talk. After my friends left, I stayed and had another beer and read my book. It was so relaxing and I know I will be back soon. The perfect way to wind down after a hectic monday! Plus you can't beat their happy hour pricing!

Great place with a cool ambiance! The place is completely red and dark inside. We had fun just hanging out on the second floor. Prices are cheap! I had a $2 beer! The mural is very interesting on the back wall, depicting all of Tucson! Bathrooms were clean! Great spot. I look forward to going back.

This place is not on the front of the street. Cute little bar - a little hard to find. Fine drinks and OK prices. Cool decor.

Fantastic new bar tucked away in an alley off Congress near the Rialto Theater. It's dark with red accent lighting and candles that make for a cozy, romantic spot to enjoy some wonderfully inventive craft cocktails, spirits, wine, and beer. Soothing music and lots of comfy chairs and couches make for ideal conversation or you can watch the Charlie Chaplin silent movies being projected on one wall.

Came here as the last stop for a bar hopping Bachelorette party and I wish we had gone there sooner! I think this will be a new favorite bar for myself, the bride, and my roommate. Everything is red! It gives the place a very unique atmosphere. And I really liked that they had an old black and white movie projected on the wall. The bartenders were quick, looked really nice (on the way they dressed and they were nice to look at ;) haha) and boy do they know how to make a drink! A lot of places skimp in the booze in favor of mixers/flavors, but not here! But the liquor flavor wasn't overwhelming either. They have a list of speciality drinks, but will make whatever you want. It's a small but very clean bar. The chairs are eleqictic and comfortable! I will be going back to try more of their yummy cocktails!

My first visit to the R Bar was with coworkers on a pleasant evening, and we sat outside on the patio, which is mainly an alley connected to Rialto. No service to tables so you go to the bar and and there are many kinds of cool wild drinks to order. I had a couple of Manhattans and they serve them up so strong! Really really strong and tasty. Had a cream ale and some Oatmeal Stouts and they were quite delicious. The inside of the bar is the best part- just go and check out the mural and the attention to detail of Tucson landscapes. And what an experience using the bathroom with that giant television screen showing anime (I think it was anime) on it. Anyway, you'll have to experience it. I'd go back! It was busy but never overwhelming and the bartenders were good about finding you to get your drink requests. If you're heading to a show at the Rialto, it's all right there for you to go in!

Stopped in for the first time over the weekend and can say that this is my favorite bar after Club Congress. It's a small, chill bar, not overly crowded, and the atmosphere is romantic: red decorations, candles on the tables, and a metal mural of the Tucson scenery lit up with lighting. There is seating up stairs, around the bar and outdoors. Drink prices are reasonable and they have nightly specials, my group had the Hula Hoop and Marlon Brando (both were citrusy). We also had cream ale and the Rialtor (came in a copper cup). I will definitely be back!

I stopped in here late one night after a show at the Rialto (it was a Tuesday) and it was surprisingly busy. The place definitely has a big city-type ambience, reminiscent to me of a hipster Chicago bar in Wicker Park. I really loved what the DJ was playing and even though it seemed a little pricey to me I will definitely be back.

You can go through Rialto theater and get to the R bat via the back entrance. Great way to kill time and enjoy some drinks between the door opening and the acts. Crowded bar which could means some waiting. Decent drinks and lots of options.

I Love, Love, Love this place, and the fact that it is all red is why I used that word so many times. From floor to ceiling every detail is thought of, and just so right and funk. The steel lasered mural depict all that is wonderful about Tucson, using every cliche piece of bad yard art sold in those creepy art fairs. There are the howling coyotes, the baby quail following their mother, A Mountain, Saguaros, and much much more, This is all delivered in over the top Fabulosity. I dig the space and will be coming back soon.

For a first-time visit, our group was treated like regulars. Thoughtful, hand-crafted cocktails made to order. The Pimm's Cup is fantastic, and the Scotch Sour was made with egg whites instead of sour mix (thank god!). The service was timely, and the decor and music is relaxed. Come in for the drinks and decor, stay for the service.

This place has potential and I liked that every single thing was red inside (except the bathroom sink/toilet which were white, should have put in black ones). We went on a Saturday night and they did not have table service so you had to order at the bar. The "bartender" seemed as though she had never made a cocktail before and was not very friendly. In fact the whole place had an off putting vibe. The friendliest one was the security guy who said goodbye to our party of 4. We paid $18 for a double vodka with a splash of cranberry which I thought was expensive since we had just left High Wire where we were paying $11 at the most for a craft cocktail! With all the other cool bars downtown, we won't be back to this one.

I liked the bar itself. Atmosphere was fun and trendy and the decor was modern, clean, and added a fun red glow to everything. As much as I liked the bar itself I was not impressed with the bartender, Rory, sportin his bow tie and apron. He was a jerk from the start. It was not super busy in the place, and he made a decent Moscow Mule (finally with a copper mug). However, his vodka and soda left much to be desired and when we said the second one was really just not up to par, tasted like a glass of club soda, he copped an attitude. He was happy to make another drink, tossed the vodka and soda, and then had the audacity to charge us for both the bad drink and the one we actually drank; this was after he tossed the vodka drink. He wasn't even polite about it. He was confrontational, snobbish, and elitist. If he was having a bad day, then he should find another way to talk to people. We're not obnoxious college students and don't need to be talked to like we are drunk idiots. Bottom line: bar itself 4.5 stars. Bartender: 3. Meh.

Great Moscow Mules at this bar. The atmosphere is really nice with a beautiful mural made out of metal. The music is very unpredictable here. Sometimes it's Indy and sometimes it's Rap... Nice little bar to slid into before or after a show at the Rialto.

The huge desert mural inside of this place makes it very well worth the visit. The cocktails are a little pricy, but not anymore than most places in downtown Tucson. I like the small seating section upstairs and there's always something interesting playing on the big screen (Bob Ross was painting last time I was there). Be warned it is next to the Rialto theatre so it can be quite loud and noisy. It's worth a visit if you are looking for a different place to have a drink downtown.

  • Erik J.

This place is super cool, original and hip! EVERYTHING IS RED! Their beer selection is adequate, nothing too spectacular, but they won't break the bank and you can get your craft beer fill if you're not too picky. The upstairs area is my favorite to sit on the weird chairs and watch whatever movie they are playing on the big projector-wall (last time it was A Scanner Darkly). Tip: go to the bathroom, it's kinda trippy.

Great before or after a show at Rialto. It is a little pricey, but the space is intimate and I love the design. Worth having one drink there, just to check it out.

This is a precious bar recently opened in the alley just east of Rialto. It's contemporary, with a lovely red hue. While it is loud, it is not obnoxious. It, at times, can be quite romantic. And it is a strong draw for people who like to show all out in their bow ties and bodycon dresses. A group of us arrived celebrating the birthdays of two in our party. While it was somewhere around 11 p.m., we were able to get seated quickly. One boon to this bar is that there is a wonderful host, Richard, who floats about to ensure that your needs are met. What a wonderful touch! Another bonus: you can order from Gio Taco while at the bar. Management has an agreement set up but the restaurant. Good deal! Also, be attentive to the mural. It has a very stark message about gentrification.

Absolutely loved this bar. Love the decor. The metal wall is amazing. All of the sights in Tucson on this beautiful wall. The staff is so friendly. A cozy little place to grab a drink. The rialtor was my favorite of all their very unique drinks. You can also order food from gio taco while there. Our food came so fast. You must stop in and see this place for yourself!

I like this place - good location, interesting cocktails and beautiful decor. Seriously, that giant mural is amazing! I love that it is connected to the Rialto! The prices are... well.. pricey, but that seems to be the way of new restaurants in Tucson. As far as craft cocktails go, Tucson has a lot of competition these days, and I do feel like some restaurants have a better handle on it than others - R Bar has some good cocktails and others that aren't so well-balanced. I'd say, stick with beer or get the sangria. The layout is such that you can actually fit a group, or have an intimate evening! As it cools off, sitting outside becomes a more viable and more fun option (people-watching!). To sum it up - I like this place for one drink, it's pricey beyond that, and there's too much else out there on Congress to try!

I'm loving the smallish watering holes that keep popping up around town. RBar has the Old Pueblo spirit literally illustrated on their wall- have you seen the metal wall? Stunning and effing awesome. That might be worth all 5 stars..... Just kidding! The location is slightly tucked away from the main drag in Congress, which I like. The drink menu boasts of a variety of craft cocktails, vino and beer. So there's something for all to enjoy! I will say, I wasn't totally fond of their white wine selection, but there are plenty other options to quench your thirst. I'm curious to check out the upstairs area on my next visit.

Super cool little alley bar. Definitely a fun place to take somewhere for the first time!

I absolutely LOVE the metal mural on the back wall of R Bar. It's so eye catching and is a perfect way to display all the best parts of Tucson. If you haven't been to R Bar yet, you have to go just for this mural. But, stay for the drinks, and the relaxing atmosphere. The key to my heart is a drink with ginger beer, and R Bar won me over with the Rialtor - Ginger-infused vodka, cardamom, lime, and ginger beer. Their drink menu even has a chart at the bottom which plots all of their cocktails based on "spirits forward"on one axis and "refreshing" on the other. What a great way to explain each drink!

  • Hannah E.

Mmm so good if you're into expensive, bougie drinks! The Rialtor (?) is super yummy. The bartenders know their s**t. Good job bartenders, keep Tucson boozed!
