Man this place makes me nostalgic for my hometown! and Mexico! When shopping at the Tucson Mall, I literally did a double-take when I saw someone pass by with a chamoyada. I hadn't seen these before in Tucson so I was fairly surprised. I finally tracked down the Paradise stand and bought one. I payed an extra dollar for tamarind-on-a-straw and tamarind ribbons but totally worth it. The second time I went back to get a verduro. I've always called this treat a "chicharron" but when I asked for it by that name, the lady at the counter gave me an epic blank stare haha. A verduro is a deep fried pork skin about the length of an adult forearm. It is topped with a crazy combination of cabbage, mexican cold crema, and bottled salsa. This is quintessential Mexican junk food. Back at my aunt's house in Mexico, a man sells them out of a rickety cart and also adds beans and cueritos (pickled pork rinds) to his chicharrones. The ones at Paradise don't have beans but i.m.h.o. they should. So good. Here's a link to a website with great verduro/chicharron pics for those who don't know what they are: newyork.seriouseats.com/… Took a star away because prices are a bit steep and because the chicharron could have been fresher. Recommended! And people seem to like this place as it has been super packed both times I've gone.

Let me start by saying the raspados in this place are absolutely delicious. With that out of the way, I believe courtesy goes a long way, and lack thereof goes even further. After years of coming here, my wife ordered the exact same things as always. A Mangoyada slushie. Mr owner was in a bad mood today and with a horrible attitude, told her they didn't serve slushies there. After going back to the menu and double checking, my wife went back to him and asked him in Spanish how he translated Raspados in English. Now irritated, he responded "sno cones", and appointed somebody else to serve my wife. Okay, maybe you don't like to call them slushies, but do you really have to act like a 5 year old? You have a problem, sir. Needless to say, we will not be coming back to this establishment. Still give the place two stars because as I said before, these slushies are amazing, but make sure you ask for a sno cone....in a cup. Going to miss them.

Didn't try the raspados. Mexican food was unimpressive. Just go to Taco Bell a little further down the way. No free refills on sodas; who doesn't do that these days?

This place used to be good when they originally started at the tucson mall. They only had a few people working and everything was made consistently. Now that they've grown, new people are working and their food/ice creams etc. aren't made like they used to be. It also feels like they've become stingy. My favorite was their mangonada and Fresas con crema. The mangonada is now made up of mostly ice unlike before when it used to have a lot of the sweet chamoy syrup and chunks of mangos. The strawberries and cream dessert is no longer made using fresh strawberries like it used to be. They now use the super sweet sugary preserved strawberries that are almost like strawberry jam ( like the ones used in Sonics strawberry limeades). You can imagine how this tastes if you're eating preserved strawberries covered in whipped cream and dulce de leche. It becomes inedible - it ends up becoming a super sweet sugary pink liquid. It used to be perfect with fresh strawberries because they weren't as sweet so the whipped cream and dulce de leche were a great complement. This place is pretty pricey, ($4.50+ for an ice cream/raspado).... it used to be worth it but not anymore.

Giving 5 stars for the Horchata! It's a house recipe and delicious! 2nd floor near Forever 21. The raspado is yummy too! Haven't tried the food tho

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
