I thought I'd give La Hacienda another try, but that mistake is leading me to give them a 1 star. I'll start with the food because that's the only part that was not terrible. It was edible and average, but it is so easy to tell that the food is chain food. This place is NOT authentic Mexican food, and it's definitely not even that good for it being a chain. Specifics: The hot salsa was definitely a medium. The mild salsa was okay. Chips were standard. Whole beans were pretty solid. Refried beans could have been much better. The red sauce was completely flavorless. Corn tacos have little tastiness. The service is just awful. Orders were once again messed up! I'm not the type to send back food because most times when it happens I can work around the errors. At most other places because the service is good, I can easily live past the mistakes. Not here. Not only did I have to send my last order back, the server bitterly attempted to persuade that I did not say things I said when ordering my food. Even if I didn't (which I know I did), "the customer is always right. Even when they're wrong, they are right." Not at La Hacienda. Customers do not feel welcomed when they are told by employees who wrong they are. Also worth mentioning between my few visits here is unnoticeable service. It could be several minutes before I notice any employee working the dining area. In fact, my last visit I only noticed two employees. The waiter was also doing the hosting, even though there was a hostess. I'm not exactly sure what the hostess was doing since the waiter started doing it. Lastly, the price. Way too expensive, especially for Mexican food in Tucson. They are slightly more expensive than places like El Charro and Guadalajara Grill, but the latter two has very good service and delicious, authentic food. Observe the menu for La Hacienda that I am posting on the photos for this page. It's no wonder they don't list the prices online! I see no reason why this restaurant deserves my business. Tucson is internationally known for its authentic Mexican restaurants with many, many great local and statewide establishments. La Hacidenda doesn't fit any criteria to be considered a restaurant worth checking out. Go elsewhere.

I came to Tucson to visit , I was looking for Mexican food, I found La Hacienda decided to have lunch there. Excellent food for a reasonable price, very elegant , clean and good service. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Tucson

Lousy service, overpriced food. You can find much better all over Tucson. Took food for take-out and the desk girl was rude. $3.50 for guacamole! Meal for one person, 2 tacos, was $16!!!!!!

Very good salsa! Angie is a great server. Very friendly and on top of everything! I ordered the portabella fajitas. They had a couple vegetarian options, but I wasn't searching too hard for it since the portabella fajitas stood out to me right away. I will def go back. The appetizer, 'the Rodeo' I think, was great!! The spinach Quesidillas in the platter were yummy! Being a vegetarian I would recommend this place for sure!!

La Hacienda really does deserve a solid 3.5 stars. So I do agree with Yelp's hedonic calculus. Or whatever magical voodoo average the stars utilize. The restaurant is clean, and bright and filled with so much stuff it's like a huge laminated piñata packed with a fiesta...all that's missing are the aged mariachis plucking out "Besame" or "Guantanamera" for uncomfortable sunburned Iowans, each heavy note bringing the wonder and sadness of unfulfilled dreams, why don't they write back?...the heart clenched in a shaking fist- Damn you Vincente Fernandez! Damn you Jose Jimenez! Huh? Where was I? Oh yeah. La Hacienda. The food is okay. I have had worse. I have had better. And to the "purist" detractors wondering about a Washington state Mexican food chain's authenticity in the Old Pueblo, I'd like to say that I would eat Mexican food from Krakow if it was good. So "olé" to La Hacienda for having the huevos to give Tucson a go. I had the fish tacos- entirely edible...I might even say tasty. Not bad as I relied on my waiter's choice. I have to say the service was good. Chips and individual salsa dishes (I guess for double dippers) arrived seconds after we were seated. The chips and salsa were okay. Not great, but not bad. And they were refilled quickly. The 2 Bohemia I had were cold, and that's my good thing. I can't remember what my wife and her girlfriend ordered. I do remember my wife's jalapeño margarita. Uh, no. Why mess up tequila, lime and salt with jalapeño? Why? Heart clenched in a shaking fist- Damn you Kirk! Kiiiiiirrrrkkkk! Oh yeah. La Hacienda. Food okay. Service good. Decor- hmmm, not for me. Solid 3.5.

Good food. Service was good, possibly a little understaffed, although it is summer and generally a little slower than usual. The beer was cold and the fajitas were seasoned well.

Me and my girlfriend love this place!!! Their food is amazing and delicious every time! Their margaritas are out of this world! I have talked about this restaurant to my family and the all love it as well. I got to say I don't have a single bad thing to say about this restaurant. They bring your food out nice and hot and well you wait for your food you are given chips with very delicious salsa. I highly rate this place and recommend it to everyone to try it.

We went there twice in the last couple weeks. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the service, quality of food, and the service was excellent. I am only giving it a 4 star rating right now as we will be going back this week again and we are hoping the service and everything else is as good as before. Then I will give it a 5 star rating. It is also beautifully decorated and clean. Plus I had the Happy Hour $4.50 margarita and it was huge and very good. We had chili rellenos, enchiladas and tacos. Next time I will try something with seafood.

Nice greeting when we arrived, and then the food came... OMG! The chili Colorado was absolutely divine -- tender and flavorful, as were the rice and beans. Delicious. And the service was just right. Highly recommended.

Talk about bringing coals to Newcastle! This is a Mexican restaurant "chain" from Washington state. Hello, Washington State -- when you're exporting your Mexican restaurants to Tucson, you'd really better bring it. If you've been looking for a big, laminated menu full of photos like a Denny's menu, you have found nirvana. The food styling in the photos is mostly very good, unfortunately the carnitas served did not resemble the photo on the specialty menu enough. The photo did not reflect the actual dryness. The photo provides that unique carnitas experience of the moist yet crisp. The carnitas as served, did not. There was no crispness to these carnitas. They did have an OK hint of a citrus marinade, but if you want carnitas, get great carnitas and go elsewhere. Churro beans -- very tasty. Here I wish I had taken a photo so you could see the perfectly rounded edges of some kind of meat product. (Think bologna or hotdog.) This is just a note, not exactly a criticism, whatever they were using added a good amount of smokey flavor and salt. It was just a little jarring to see in the beans. Presumably a restaurant kitchen could come up with more appealing options for adding those flavors to beans. So, taste: 8. Looks: 3. The rice was flavorful and good. Corn tortillas were OK. Chips served as appetizer were warm and that's a nice touch. My dinner companion and I were not drinking. This appears to be a spot to enjoy your margarita fest. The menu includes a good selection of tequilas and there are photos of margaritas to enjoy. In all likelihood, with enough margaritas or tequila shots, you'll be thrilled with everything brought to your table in this expansive dining room. The service was very good. The waiter kindly answered all my questions about the chain. I would not go back for the carnitas. I might go give their albondigas and other soups a try. My dinner companion enjoyed his steak dish (with a tomatoes, onions, peppers). Other than happy hour and margarita-ville, it could be a decent lunch spot if you're just looking for a new place to try out.

I came here for dinner and was very disappointed. The waitress was distracted and barely paid attention to us. The house margarita tasted like water and when I asked to have another one with more flavor the waitress gave me some attitude. The food did not taste good and was pricy. I really enjoyed their salsa and chips though. In summary the food was mediocre, the service poor and the price too elevated for what you get. Spend your money somewhere else.

Food isn't bad, but the service blows. The waitress made fun of my husband for how he pronounced his dish and they tried to gouge us for $2 by adding rice and beans to our plate even though we never ordered them. Our waitress never came to our table to ask us how our food was after it came and my taco salad shell was stale. And beware. They charge you an additional $0.75 for shredded beef. With all the Mexican restaurants in Tucson, I'd go somewhere else....

I like the place and the lunch specials are priced just right. $7.95 you get some dish and rice and beans. You can't beat that. The place is very friendly and wonderful atmosphere. The 2 downsides.... (1) the plates they give you food in are SUPER HOT. I mean, you cannot even eat for a few minutes that the food is scorching. They tell you it is hot, but still, they gotta change that. and (2) the salsa is very...blah. They have a unique way of making it, but the flavor is bland and so mild (give it a little kick). I work close by and eat there once in a while, but being Tucson.....there are better places to eat. Go there for the bar, their selection on booze is out of this world. Take a cab. HaHa.

Love the place! Great food, great service. I always get the cochinita pibil tacos o tostadas. The Enchiladas Marineras are outstanding too. good margaritas!

One of my new favorite places to eat Mexican in Tucson. The restaurant is clean and the servers are quick and nice. The wife gets the chili relleno plate and I get the beef enchiladas, which are both very good. They also have small plates for those that don't want to eat a massive amount of food. The wife loves this. I don't know why people give the review bad ratings, simply because it's from Washington. There are some places around Tucson that have horrible Mexican food. Overall, it's a good place to eat if you're craving Mexican.

Great variety, seafood dishes special, bright decore, good service and a nice break from traditional Sonoran cooking. Good place for lunch.

This review will, unfortunately, be the tale of two dishes. Dish #1 - Cochinita Pibil tacos: I have not seen it anywhere else in town on the menu. Tasty, tasty slow roasted pork in exotic spices topped with habañero and avocado. For ten bucks you get three street sized tacos which, did I mention, were tasty? For another four bucks you can order the platter. That comes with a pile-o-pork Cochinita style, beans, rice and tortillas.Let your inner pork lover decide... Dish #2 - "deluxe" burrito, with your choice of chicken or "ground beef". Heavy use of quotation marks here is key. This is the dish my wife ordered and I could not help but feel bad. Two words that should never be used in a food review and I hope to never use again - dog food- that's what the consistency and texture of the "ground beef" reminded me of, Not sure if it was overcooked or that was the intent. Whatever... they gotta work on this. Salsa was good but needed a tad bit of salt. Service was very good. Margaritas were on point, but that "ground beef"... ugh. It was enough that my wife said, " I don't think we need to come here again". I don't blame her. All in all, I say come for the Cochinita Pibil or try other stuff on the menu, but the "ground beef" is bad enough that, unless, they work on it, is enough to make us avoid La Hacienda.

Friendly service, good location, decent food, and tasty margartias. AMBIENCE: 3 stars. This restaurant it located in the corner spot of a strip mall on Camp Lowell and Swan, and the prior tenants have not fared well, so I hope that La Hacienda survives. The decor is OK, but tends to be what you expect if you went to a Mexican restaurant at a mall in Michigan or Wisconsin. Lots of bright colors, space, etc--I am fairly certain some of the chairs out front are from a different restaurant entirely as they have a different name on the back of them. There is a full bar in the back, and a nice little patio. SERVICE: 4 stars. We had excellent service from our server and from the bartender. FOOD: 3.75 stars. Mexican food is a tough sell in Tucson--as there are so many good places to go to (ie Micha's!!), but this is a pretty decent place. The food seems authentic and fresh made, especially there salsa--which is very good. It is a bit on the tame side for me, BUT they will definitely amp it up a bit for you if you like it hotter. That is one thing they can definitely do--amp up the food, they have tons of habanero's in the kitchen just waiting for you to summon them to your table. I had the carnitas--which to be honest were a bit disappointing as the pork was quite dry. The rice is very good, the beans are decent. My wife had the Ruben Special--which is flat steak and grilled shrimp and it was VERY good--I kept trying to steal it but she was not having any of my shenanigans. The guacamole is decent, a bit bland. ALCOHOL: 3.5 stars. Decent margaritas, lots of choices of tequila, and they crush the ice the old fashioned way. VALUE: 4 stars. Good prices and you definitely won't leave there hungry. OVERALL: 4 stars--I hope they do very well in this spot!

This is my first visit here at this restaurant, but not this location. This is one of those spots that just seems doomed to fail, and my (¡lastima!) prediction is that Hacienda will not be an exception based on this trip. They have a lot of good things going on: quick, friendly seating and service, and rapid delivery of the order. Servers are plentiful, if a bit shy and removed. Also, the menu has great depth and many tempting offerings. I'm having the small chile relleno. It's very lackluster, just north of bland. The same is true of the salsa, which does look like it is made here and is fresh. The rice and beans are equally flat. Filling me up, giving me what I need... but not the culinary fiesta I was hoping for. La Hacienda has potential. However, in a city that (imo) often defines the cuisine "Mexican," the competition is robust and vigorous. This location turns over every 5 or so years, and if Hacienda wants to stick around, my recommendation is do everything it takes to STAND OUT and draw a consistent crowd.

Outstanding in every way. Nice comfortable decor, extensive menu which will take a year to try them all. Most importantly wonderful food with all the flavor and delight of home cooking! The most welcoming staff one could hop for and our go to place.

There is absolutely no excuse for thick store bought tortillas to be used in a Mexican restaurant in southern Arizona

Our first impression was of eye catching decor with a small but very active bar area. Lots of seating and even a side patio for dining. Way too cold last night. With 2 TV's to catch a game placed in strategic spots so you can eat and watch a game. We were greeted so warmly as we came in. So far so good. Perused the absolutely humongous menu much like reading the first book of the bible. What came to mind was this place seemed like a chain restaurant with the very professional menus. I mostly like to go to family recipe type restaurant. However, after speaking to the owner I found out that they have 4 restaurants in the Seattle area and then the owner apparently liked the desert weather in Tucson and opened up this place. This is great for our community of hungry Mexican food lovers as we found out after finally settling on a couple of fabulous dishes from the very extensive menu. We are really becoming the smallish city with so many discriminating gourmets in town. Best of all the prices are mostly very affordable. I could go on and on about the many choices you have here. There are small combo and large combos. Very interesting dishes which are unique to this place. Too many to list. We had Chicken mole with rice and beans. Also, one of the specials soft corn tortillas with marinated pork in a citrusy sauce with avocado and red onions. So so good on both dishes. The mole sauce was the best I ever had. The wait staff was super nice and very professional. The whole experience was a pleasant surprise. So glad they have settled here. We've been in Tucson over 20 years and have seen at least 4 Restaurants in this place come and go. From Noodles to Greek. This one I really believe will be here for a very long time. It is tops in my book from the cleanliness, friendly staff and owner. Can't wait to try some other very unusual spins on Mexican food. Perfect location for us.

First time here. They did a nice job on the remodel from Fat Greek. A small bar, dining room with carpet (nice touch) and plenty of patio seating. The staff was very friendly. I was seated quickly, not too busy at 5:00. I ordered the Cadillac Margarita that my server recommended even though it was not on the drink menu. It was very good as was the chips and salsa. Salsa had a nice consistency and a little caliente, but not too much. For dinner I ordered Pescado Zarandeado. According to the menu it's a grilled fish dish served along the Pacific coast in Mexico. It had a nice seasoning to it, the fish itself didn't have any flavor, and it was served on the foil that it was grilled on, so it was hot for a while. It was almost to hot to heat and really get the flavor of the seasonings, but as it cooled I could taste it better. The salad was less than desirable, just some greens, red onions and avocado. Dry, no dressing. The rice was very good. Light and fluffy with a light seasoning to it. Not very much though. Overall, it as a decent dinner. I will go back again, but will order something different. Nothing really special about this place, but certainly some decent Mexican food at a reasonable price.

The gods of Mexican food have smiled upon Tucson in the form of La Hacienda--My coworker and I have been here four times for lunch over the past two or three weeks, and at each visit, they've scored absolutely perfect marks for quality of food, service, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. This, in and of itself, is remarkable for any restaurant. It's even more remarkable considering how much of a demanding, picky bastard I am. :) Here's the skinny: Things I like: The food is incredible. Everyone working there is an adult. Not a bunch of kids who don't know what they're doing pretending to be adults. There are TVs, but they're inconspicuous, few, and thankfully muted. Seating is well-appointed, spacious, and comfortable. If you prefer eating in a sardine can, go to Nicos around the corner. Great menu.. Even the lunch menu has a dozen or more choices. Staff are courteous, prompt, and personable. Food tastes exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Prices range from reasonable to surprisingly cheap. Portion sizes are large without being ridiculous. The room is spacious without being impersonal. Outdoor seating is shaded, indoor seating is carpeted with a good mix of tables, and booths. The complimentary chips and salsa are fresh, and taste home made. Service is prompt and attentive without being hurried. The food comes out fast, well-plated, and hot. You can expect (amazingly) to be in and out of there in less than an hour during lunch, which is amazing for a restaurant of this size. Ambient noise level is low. Decor is contemporary bordering on upscale. Things I don't like: ......I literally sat here for 2 minutes thinking about what I didn't like, and came up with nothing. It's that good. I suppose the only thing I don't like about La Hacienda is that it isn't physically attached to my home and available to me at 4 in the morning. Summary: Stop reading and go. Go. Just go. 10/10 for bread, 10/10 for circuses, and for me to say that is damn near impossible. GO.

Not terrible, but not amazing. There are way too many awesome Mexican restaurants in tucson that charge less. Save your money and go to one of them. Salsa is good though. Go for lunch, get the daily special and go to dinner elsewhere.

Great new Mexican place... Service was very attentive and food came out quickly. We ordered the pork carnitas plate and the pibil plate. Both were excellent - good portions, full of flavor. The carnitas was served as larger chunks of meat than the shredded presentation I am used to, but was tender, with great roasted savory flavor. The pibil was amazing. Lots of margarita choices. Mine was the bartender's margarita - very fresh but could have used a bit more tequila. Overall, a very good experience. Looking forward to coming back.

The menu here seems very similar to Guadalajara Grill. Lots of options including Salmon fajitas. I had combo plate and the chicken and shredded beef was moist. My husband had carne asada burrito and it was smoky flavored and tender. The pico de gallo was very flavorful with fresh squeezed lime juice and salt mixed in- I could've eaten it by the spoonful. Great place I'd come back soon!

Started out good but then we ordered. Ordered wings (happy hour special) for $5. We got 5 tiny wings. $1 each, happy hour price is expensive if the wings are decent size, but these were tiny. And not crispy. Weird wings. on a big white plate with sauce smeared all over it that made it look dirty. Slices of carrots and celery were limp and not fresh. Not a good start. Waiter took our order. He was very friendly and helpful, but he didnt write down the order. Partner said "I hope he gets my order right because he didnt write down anything." I said sure he will get it right. He's a professional. If he couldnt remember orders, he would have written it down. Guess what. He got the order wrong. We said dont worry about it. We're hungry. But... then the steak was supposed to be extra well done. Guess what. Pink and bloody. He blamed it on the kitchen--he told them extra well done. So he took it back. about 10 minutes later, it arrives again. half of the steak is extra well done, the other half (thicker half) still pink. Beans were weird, sweet in a strange way. "Salad" was just iceberg lettuce. The only good things of the meal were the salsa, the women kept our drinks refilled, and my carne asada. Everything else was really not good. For $15 and $16 entrees, you can get much better anywhere. Too bad. Don't think this business will make it in this restaurant. P.S. If you had comp'd the wings we didnt eat, or the steak that was wrong, and late, and wrong again, we still wouldnt have returned to this restaurant, but we probably wouldnt have taken the time to post this review about how bad it was. The server had a clue (or two or three) that they didn't live up to basic restaurant standards. Might wanna apologize and try to make amends at least.

My boyfriend and I came here twice in two weeks! They have amazingly delicious taco salads and Enchiladas. The chicken is really moist and just overall incredible. The food is hands down great but they are lacking on service...the first time we went here it was a Saturday afternoon, with three other groups dining, but we waited 10 mins for our waitress to come and take our drink orders, and then 15 mins for food to come out, and then our waitress disappeared....the other waiter had to come and get our check for us. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars.

Way, Way over priced and do Plain and low taste. I could swear I was back down in Green Valley. The lunch special was 2 beef tacos with some rice and beans for $ 8.95 - very, very plain. I asked for some fresh salsa - the normal table salsa with watery with little flavor - like a tomato juice. When I got the bill they hit me for $ 2.35 for that. Ouch. I should have driven just a little further east to Poco and Moms .... waaaaaa. If you thrive on Bland, Expensive Mex food this is the place.

Have been here so many times, and never have to have the same thing. Fun fresh menu items, specials & the menu is huge. Love the Guacamole made table side, theres's small & large combos, Yucatan specials, seafood, pork ... The food is delivered so fast it was like we just barely ordered it! There's even a cool kids menu! They can have their American favorites like Mac n Cheese, chicken fingers & fries. For the big kids, the drink menu is is filled with choices. They have a bunch of lunch specials too. Plus location, Swan & Camp Lowell is in my 'hood!

Yes, three stars. If I was grading it on the food, it would be a solid 5-star experience, but the service can be so lacking that it has been bumped down to a three star-er. My mom took me here the first time, and I had the Cochinita Pibil, which is a-mazing! They take pork, douse it in sweet, spicy sauce, wrap that sucker up in a banana leaf and serve it was beans, rice and tortillas. It's sent from heaven. It's truly delicious, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something to make their taste buds do a line dance. It's spicy, but not too spicy (I'm a spicy wimp and I can handle it), a little bit sweet, a little bit salty....nom! They serve up some salsa that can be hit or miss, but it's always edible at the very least. It's never HIDEOUS per say, and there are times when it really hits the mark, but sometimes it misses by a smidge. Oh! The tortilla soup here is also something worth coming in for! It's flavorful, with fresh ingredients and it feels very homey. Now, onto the service. My husband, mother and I all differ on how we view the service. I think it's really slow, not just the food, but coming over to check on things, refilling drinks, just checking in...this last time we got our food from a runner, not our server, we were, I kid you not, one of two tables in the entire place (our party of three and one other party of two) and our server only thought to check on us after our meals were finished to ask us how everything was. This is typical. Every time I have been here the service has been the same. Now, my husband thinks it's just ok, and my mom has said that the service is fine and she didn't see any problem with it, so maybe I'm just being a stickler here; I don't know where the truth lies. The food is absolutely enough to keep me coming back. Cochinita Pibil is amazing, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Even though the service is not what I find to be up to par, that food is some of the best, and in a very unassuming place. Will be back, will order Cochinita Pibil, will continue to bring friends.

We like the dish that is in the pineapple. However, let's be real this place is from the state of Washington----why? We are in Tucson folks? Where some of the best Mexican is from. Also, this place is ridiculously expensive---so I don't feel like it's worth it. Super expensive, not local, and the food is just ok.

My husband and I just had dinner at La Hacienda. The Margaritas were very good. The salsa was fresh and delicious. I had the Carnitas entree and my husband had the Tacos al Pastor. Everything was presented and prepared with care. Service was very good. We will definitely return.

I think three stars is generous. Very nice decor, atmosphere however the food is expensive and pretty average. I have lived in Tucson for over fifty years and love Mexican food and have eaten at most of the best places in Tucson. I think the owner should seek some of these places out and maybe he can improve. Don't mean to put you down as I am sure in Seattle your food is well received. The guacamole was lacking, very average. Beans the same. Your salsa has a lot of chili powder in it which I personally don't care for. I had a chicken enchilada which again was average. I really hope you are successful but to be honest you are priced high for Tucson and the food does not support the price.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
