This place is around the corner from my sister-in-law's place and last time we visited, we tried it & loved it! I was born and raised in Taiwan and I think that their dishes are awesome! They have a HUGE menu and are very reasonably priced. Will always stop there every time we visit :)

Hot Wok offers the freaky fast speed of Jimmy John's but with food that requires cooking and not just assembly. It's fast Chinese food so there aren't any mindblowing flavors but the quality is great and the dishes aren't soaked in oil. Rich's recommendation: pad thai. Avoid the pho.

We really need more GOOD Asian places on the Eastside. This place ain't one of them. Service sucked. The lady at the counter was grumpy and answered my question regarding if the Sesame Chicken was spicy with reluctant, barely concealed hostility. I went ahead and ordered Sesame Chicken, which came to almost $7.00 with tax. Then I proceeded to sit and wait for my order. And wait. And wait. I watched everyone who came in after I did get served. I was just getting ready to stand up and inquire what the issue was, when another server, a bit more friendly, noted that my order had been sitting, bagged up, on their back counter. She apologized, barely, and handed me my order. Sesame chicken, pretty tasteless. Small portion and comes with white rice. And was definitely not hot. Impressed? Not much.

This used to be my favorite. However with higher prices and smaller portions, it's not the same. Also the last few take out orders had empty boxes. We also had a few pot sticker orders where they were pink. (Bad meat) It is so sad what happened to a once great restaurant.

The setting is interesting and unique. The food is okay, not great but good, with decent variety. But the service is so lackadaisical as to be almost non-existent. The only grown ups here seem to be the customers, with the staff seemingly comprised solely of unsupervised teenagers. They're not bad kids, but they haven't the faintest clue about customer service. And no one has taught them. And nobody is there to check on them. If this restaurant fails, they will have deserved it for not paying attention to the most important ingredients, the PEOPLE. And that includes both the customers they ignore, and the poor kids they inflict upon them.

Sadly I didn't write this review right away so I don't remember all I ordered. They did screw up my order and I didn't want to drive all the way back so ended up throwing half away. I really wanted to like this place, large selection. Just a step up from Panda Express... Which I guess is what some ppl like. Mongolian beef wasn't spicy and was just too sweet. I remember knowing I wasn't impressed and won't go back.

Excellent food - great people working here - friendly & helpful. Combination fried rice was tasty - chicken, beef, & shrimp. Love that they play KLOVE radio here, too!

The service was very prompt and the meal Szechuan Beef was certainly among the best tasting that I've had in quite sometime. I also loved the decor and very amazed that such a hidden little place could be so worthwhile. Amazing!!! I will recommend this place to all my friends and family. Five stars hands down.

Super quick service and the place is clean enough. Been here a couple times and the consistency is solid. The quality in food leaves much to be desired. The Curry is a one spice fits all situation, I always have to add chili paste. Sesame chicken is quite sweet and crunchy - but good. I always get sad when they remind me they only have white steamed rice as a side, no brown or fired rice. Overall, not bad for a cheap eat.

The reviews don't lie, the food is top notch! It is definitely my go to place for Chinese food... Best mongolian beef in town!

The food is good, fresh and well made. However we will never be back. We have eaten here once a week for the last year and a half, always on a Sunday night, it's sometimes spotty if they stay open until they say, but this past Sunday I called to find out if they'd be open as posted, I was assured 7:50 was closing. I was tired and hungry from working all day and when I rolled in at 726 the place was dark, chairs up and some one was wiping up the kitchen counters. SO frustrating, 3rd time this happened...3 strikes your out! So just don't try to eat after 7pm on a Sunday and it will be fine!

We visited here for the first time but it won't be the last. Fast service, large portions and it was all delicious! We will go back.

I am not a big fan of American Chinese, I prefer very traditional or the new modern fusion. When I do indulge, I like my all white meat chicken cut up bite sized or smaller and only a light dusting of corn starch, no heavy batter. However, this is close to home, and even closer to the Miller Golf Links library, which I seem to find myself in nearly every day....so Hot Wok is a fast fix. Did I say fast? Insanely fast, faster than those stupid Jimmy Johns commercials about their lame fastness. So, personally, I would not bother calling in your carry out...I ordered sesame chicken, lettuce wraps and a dish that eludes me at the moment, however it was chicken and potatoes (I'm a sucker for potato) and it was ready with in 5 minutes. No, it was not sitting around under a light like a panda express...it was really fresh out of the wok. No, I was not the only person there, this place was jamming....carry out and dine in. My chicken was lightly battered, bite sized or smaller, I was elated. The lettuce wraps could rival PF Chang's....... The best thing is, the price! Everything is about 5.99 even at dinner! Winner, winner, Chinese chicken dinner! PS the menu is on the wall...it is has a large selection, you order at the counter and they bring it out to you.

I went with my family which included a baby and a group of seven people. We ordered appetizers like the fried green beans, and their special spinach artichoke wontons. The appetizers were delicious. We liked how quick and fast the food arrived at the table. Everything from the Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai offerings were tasty with huge portions and seasoned appropriately. I would take heed that the dining room closes at 8:30pm during the week and they stop taking takeout orders by 8:50pm. It's casual order and pay first style. I would come with time look over the extensive menu and daily specials before ordering.

I've been coming to Hot Wok since it first opened, and have never been disappointed. It's good both in the restaurant and to-go. You order at the counter like a Pei Wei, but the prices are a lot lower. I usually get the pad thai. It's not the amazing version you'd find at Char's or Sa-ing. But it's pretty good, it comes with pork and shrimp, and it's cheaper than any of the other pad thai in town. And for a $7 dish, the shrimp is surprisingly bountiful and well-prepared.

  • Meghan b.

I hadn't been here since they reopened, And it was delicious. I had the spring rolls with pork and shrimp and the lemongrass shrimp. Both items were fresh and full of flavor. The best part is they are reasonably priced too! Love this place.

  • Leigh A.

Found this diamond in the rough! The best chicken and shrimp fried rice, ever and the eggrolls on point also. They aren't shamed to pile up your plate!

I think this restaurant does a good job on their Chinese dishes. My family has been there many times and love their food. I would recommend this place.

We usually go their for lunch or dinner but NEVER AGAIN. My husband stopped the other night for take- out and we ate as soon as he got home. Within 20 min we were both very sick He had made a comment to the waitress about how the food had changed ex. Portion sizes, taste, even the breaded green beans that used to be long big &. crispy and turned out to be soggy and little nibblets She informed us that it had just recently changed owners They" were" our favorite place to eat but not anymore When you have something that is great and and your very busy Don't change things "your loss ". Word of mouth spreads quickly

Second time I've gone here (I guess I didn't learn the first time)..they really do suck bad my throat is burning from the gas or whatever they cook with!!..never again!!

I eat here for lunch quite often. I normally get the pho and spring rolls. Inexpensive, quick, & flavorful. If in the mood for pho I would give this place a go. Always my go to place.

  • Dee G.

I go once every week. its good. For the price you get a good portion of food. Dont expect waiters & waitresses to be at your foot & begging need, Its not that type of restaurant. its almost like a fast food spot but cooked with Asian food instead. I checked the reviews on here and you old picky people complain too much.

  • Taylor O.

Okay so I haven't been here in a really long time but decided to come back and try it to see if it is still the same yummy food at the same yummy price. I got the vermicelli bowl with lemon grass chicken and some spring rolls.... It was delicious! Prices are very reasonable and the food is still very fresh! Would and will definitely be coming back!

  • Jordana S.

Firstly, the place is a dump. There isn't a single decorative picture on the walls and the doors are filthy with old handprints. The staff was hanging around chatting when I arrived, and served me pretty reluctantly. And they have Jesus music playing, which frankly ruins my appetite. The spring rolls came out fast but the preoccupied staff didn't grab them for a while. They were ok, but the peanut sauce is cold rather than hot which is off putting. Large, but stuffed mostly with noodles. Also got the pad Thai which is passable, but more on par with a Pei Wei than a good local place. There is a definite overtone of something, which may be cleanser; first thing that hits your nose when you walk in rather than food aromas.

After hitting up Great Village Chinese Restaurant, I rolled over to Hot Wok to pick up some Spring Rolls (second craving for this evening). I never had Hot Wok before so I decided to ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. The Spring Roll was a-okay, but nothing special. Not fresh, disclolored veggies inside. I would gladly trade portion for quality when it comes to Spring Roll! *The Peanut Sauce, ummmm yeah, I think I'll pass next time! Tasted like confectioners sugar, soy sauce, and peanuts. The Kung Pao Chicken was good (Hubby said it was phenomenal). A little too much soy sauce for my taste. Fair portion, fresh, and hot. *The White Rice was nicely cooked, possibly minute rice though. I will return for round two! Also, and so far, I would eat here over Panda Express.

  • Zariena D.

I was overwhelmed by their menu plastered on the wall. Holy Moly do they have a lot to offer! Appetizers, Noodles, Soups, Poultry, Beef..etc. I was hoping one of the employees saw me struggling to choose an item so I can get a suggestion but no one came to my rescue. Oh well... I went with Chicken Teriyaki and Pad Thai. The chicken was a big portion, but it was mostly dark meat which made it scary for my 5 year old to try :( It was alright though.? Then, when they gave me my Pad Thai...only then, they tell me that it's spicy and shouldn't share with my small children. Huh?! I wish she would have told me this while I was ordering. It was good though! FYI: It wasn't spicy! Mmm..I'm not so sure about this place yet. I think, I'll come back to give them another try...

I was looking for a new Chinese restaurant to go to because the one I used to go to closed. So when I found this one I had low expectations since most of the Chinese restaurants in Tucson are below par. This is not the case for this resteraunt. They have a large menu. They have great service. The prices are extremely reasonable and the food is always delicious and comes out really quickly. They are constantly asking how everything is and are very friendly. This is my pick for best Chinese in Tucson.

  • Joy P.

This place is kind of a lunch sorta place. We ordered orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, pan fried noodle and fried calamari thinking it will feed 5 hungry people to the fullest and still have some leftovers for later. But boy we were wrong! The orange chicken came in a small box, really not that tasteful. Teriyaki chicken only had at least 10 small pieces on them on a bed of veggies (i asked them to take out the rice since we have some at home and so this is what we get) pan fried noodles is so hard i could barely get it with my chopsticks and it's bland! The fried calamari though is alright but the sauce it came with is so tangy, but i managed to finished it all. The place is clean and service is fast, that i'll give to them, but other than that i will go somewhere else if i wanted another big order. The prices are reasonable just like any other chinese fast food places.

  • Alanna F.

The stuff here is pretty good. I would say one of the few "Chinese" food places I go to. The vegetable lo mein is one of my favorites, along with the chicken lo mein. The spring rolls are nice and crisp, not double fried and hard like some other places.

    (4)
  • James P.

This place looks promising but, it sure doesn't please you at all. Kind of pricy for Chinese food, especially when they seem like a fast food place. Food is not even close to par. Service is somewhat decent however the food IS horrible. If you want fast Chinese food, go to Panda Express, you'll get more justice for the price you have to pay there.

  • Lizz D.

I've read two reviews that this restaurant is better than my favorite Chinese restaurant (Hot Fusion)....so I finally got around to trying it. Is it better than Panda Express? Yes. However, that's like saying Five Guys is better than McDonald's. I ordered the curry with vegetables and tofu. My husband ordered Kung Pao Chicken and asked for extra extra spicy. Neither dish had much flavor, which was especially disappointing when the chicken was supposed to be spicy. The curry had three pieces of broccoli, and the rest was potato and carrot. Sorry, not what I consider a vegetable dish. The tofu was ok, but again was bland and I could barely taste the curry. Authentic Chinese? No way. Better than fast food? Absolutely. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but would take it over most drive-thrus.

  • Nali M.

i pass this place on my way to work every day. i have also heard a lot of good things about this place so i finally decided to give them a try. someone described it to me like a panda express, but it's not like that at all. they have a counter where you order what you'd like. it's just a very casual chinese restaurant. the guys at the counter were very nice, explaining what was what and accomodating me and my order. i got the sesame chicken (without sesame seeds) and it was sooooo delicious! i'll definitely be back to try other dishes soon!

There has been a change in ownership. Immediately, we noticed the difference. Smaller portions, slower service. Tonight we got potstickers that were tinged in pink and no one knew why. I generally love this place, but the change has made me want to come far less often.

I could not resist after reading all the positive reviews! I had to head to Hot Wok with my cousin to get quick dinner. It's right in our neighborhood, so it was 5 minutes & we were walking through their doors on a cold drizzly night last week. I ordered the prime rib, my husband ordered the Mongolian beef ... we also ordered Pho Soup and two orders of egg rolls, a few other sides. The ordering was easy! They have a huge menu board complete with pictures, and the counter help was very helpful and friendly -- complete with a beautiful smile. Our food was ready super quick ... no need to call ahead or ask for reservations! We drove home and prepared to eat awesomely! The egg rolls were wonderful! The were made just right! The Pho soup was comforting and satisfying. The meals are super fresh & the veggies are crisp with snap and sparkle! My husbands Mongolian Beef was perfection; My cousin loved her chicken. The rice was cooked just right ... and the Prime Rib was ... Good ... but lets remember, Prime Rib is best just off the grill and eaten as a steak. Next time, I'll definitely order the sesame chicken with a side of crab puffs. I give the Hot Wok a five stars ... and look forward to my next visit very soon!! They're almost as good as 'The Bowl' in my fast food play book! When driving to the Hot Wok, if you're driving westbound from Pantano, the little strip mall will be on your right, with a turn in to their parking lot.

I eat here at least once a week. I've only been disappointed once when my veggies were overcooked. Aside from that their food is delicious. Plus they will use a white sauce if you ask for it if you don't want soy sauce used in your dish. Their spring rolls are really good too.

Do not go to Hot Wok! We thought the food was great so we took several friends for a quick meal before a movie... One of our friends got a long black in her food, she practically swallowed it, pulled it from her mouth and threw up in the restroom. No one wanted to finish their meal. The management said "no apologies, no refunds." Disgusting!

    (1)
  • Charles O.

I ate there yesterday afternoon with my girlfriend and the food was good, until I found hairs in my food, and when I approached who I believed to be a manager, he stuck his finger on my plate, to remove the hairs. Needless to say I will never return there again. I approached the counter before I left and noticed Noone handling the food was wearing hair restraints cooks or otherwise, and I also know it is required, very disappointed.

  • Adam P.

This place is AWESOME. If you like pei wei or panda express. Times this by 5. Fast and friendly and prices are reasonable. The portions are crazy! I come here for lunch and the best thing on a rare cold and windy day is a bowl of pho soup!

  • Bryan F.

The first 2 times that I ate here I had the Pad Thai with tofu. The first time my stomach got kind of upset. Figured it was a fluke so I ordered it again about a month later, same things :( I'm going to give them one more try but this time I'm going to order Curry with vegetables. If I get a stomach ache again, that is 3 strikes and I won't eat here anymore. Ordering food right now.

  • Marc H.

We came here with several friends a few months back; we were very disappointed with the atmosphere(none) and food as well as the service. I can't believe they're still in business.

    Inexpensive oriental food! Huge portions!

    (4)
  • Christine P.

There's only 1 dish I know for sure that is always consistent and delicious and it's the sesame chicken. The chicken are in perfect bite size pieces, perfectly glazed, and crispy with every bite. The portions are great and decent for a $5 plate. I have tried other dishes like the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and fish sauce, however it was very bland. I've also had the grilled pork with rice and the pork was a bit dried on a few occasions. Therefore, I stick with the sesame chicken every time.

  • Jana H.

This was my first visit to get some stirfry and a bite to eat in a hurry. OMG. I will definitely keep this on my list of favs. The menu was extensive but not complicated - and had lots of my favorites at very reasonable prices. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and some curry chicken, no rice. The spring rolls were super fresh and delicious, and they didn't skimp on the pork and other goodies inside. The curry chicken was awesome - and the portions were large. The service was super fast, and several times we were asked how our meal was and how we were doing. Very unusual for a "fast food" type place. They were efficient, polite, and interested in what we had to say! All in all, very impressed. It may not look like much - but this little place is a gem!

Great food, fast service and low price make this place a win win.

    (4)
  • Kyle S.

5 out of 5 times I order the same thing in the same way, 3 out of 5 times I will get what I ordered, the other times I get some new tasty food. Don't expect your crab puffs to get there before your entrees. Spicy lemongrass noodle bowl is nice so it the grilled pork noodle bowl. Lo mien and malaysian chicken are very good. the Pho is nothing to shake a stick at either.

Great portions. Kids love their pho but I wish the meat was more tender. Combo chow fun is delicious.

  • Raul S.

FAST Review: Food: (5/5) - What I like is the variety and size of the portions. Could come here every day for a month straight and never get the same thing twice. Recommend the Pad Thai and Seared Beef. Ambiance: (3/5) - Well, it's in a little strip mall off Golf Links. They are fairly clean. Even coming with 6-7 people can usually find a table large enough, even during the lunch rush. Service: (5/5) - They are fast. Unless you get stuck behind someone with a take-out order for 10 (which apparently happens to me often), you will get you food shortly after filling your drink cup and sitting down. Total Impression: 5 - Come here often for lunch. You (usually) can't beat the speed of service and the portions are more than enough for a big appetite. If you are looking for lots of taste with more variety than a Panda Express (and just as fast), then go here.

Great food, reasonable prices, relatively consistent. Amazing flavours! Artichoke spinach wontons? Yes, please! I love a restaurant that is unique! Thanks!

I go here for the PHO. It is the best in town. Although, this past year, I have noticed that the portions are not as generous as they were when it first opened.

  • Howard J.

Been coming here since they opened. Food is very good. Portions are large. But... The place is getting dirtier and dirtier. The first thing you notice is the table number they give you doesn't look like its been cleaned in weeks. It had food, dirt and sauce on it. Was afraid to pick it up. The tables are sticky! Wipe your table with a napkin and you'll see its dirt! This isn't just one, its all of them. Like they've never been cleaned with 409 or Simple Green. The chairs are all greasy and sticky too. Feels disgusting. When a young woman asked how was everything, I told her the food was good but I can't eat here anymore, its too dirty. She said "yeah I know, it's been getting like that". When I said something about cleaning the tables, she said "the water hasn't been changed since this morning". I assume she meant the water on the dirty rag they were using to wipe down the tables. I asked to speak with the manager, I just wanted to give them feedback. She didnt get him/her but later came out and said, "I told the owner and he said he'll get to it when he can". Huh?? The door leading to the kitchen is dirty as well. The bottom of it filthy. When a cook came out from the kitchen, the front and back of his pants were black! Looked like he'd been rolling around on the floor. I know this is a hard review. I hope the owners/mgmt do the right thing or they'll kill a good business. I'll give them another try in a few months, but for now, I can't imagine going back for awhile. I'm too grossed out.

We have never eaten in, but have purchased take out twice now - and we are so sad we did not give this a try sooner as its only a few miles from our house! GREAT prices for the amount of food you get. The food is fresh and delicous. I am a vegetarian while my husband is not, so I love that there are great options for me and him. Will definitely be making this a regular on our list! For veggie lovers, I LOVE the Lemongrass with Tofu!! Happy Vegetables are great too.

  • Jimmy M.

Awesome Chinese restaurant that is right up the street from my apartment. Whenever I do take out they are lightning fast and very courteous. Plus as others have said their prices are great!!! If you're in the mood for a nice quiet night at home with some take out you should try the Hot Wok.

  • Steven G.

This place definitely exceeded first impressions. I really thought that the food would be alright but its actually very well cooked and the prices were amazing. I got the Pad thai noodles which was pretty good but the best part were the Beef ribs I ordered. I got way more food than I thought and the prices were excellent. With pretty good service I would definitely come here again and again.

Great place. Friendly service, lots of flavor, fresh food, and very reasonable prices. We go there at least twice a week.

Great cheap asian food. About $8 to 12 per dish, larger portions. Awesome springrolls, hard to get because they seem to sell out every night. Highly recolmmend this place. Not really fancy, but I don't look for that.

  • Eileen S.

I just ate at Hot Wok for the first time. I loved it. I ordered the salmon with lemon pepper sauce and my husband got the pad thai, which he thought his was very good. For $8.95 I got served a huge piece of salmon in a really bright, flavorful sauce with little lemon wedges stir-fried right in with the rest of the perfectly-cooked vegetables. It was a huge meal and one of the tastiest I've eaten in a long time. I can't wait to go back.

    (5)
  • Juan D.

We thought this place was dirty and boring, which is surprising since it's fairly a new place. The place was pretty much empty and we still couldn't find a clean table. The floors were filthy, and the food was bad. I can probably get better asian food from the frozen isle. ADVISE, just go to PEI WEI where they have great service and it's clean. But Hot Wok Sucks! Do you feel like getting disappointed today? Then come to this place...

If you like a quick, hot, and tasty asian meal then this is the place. Good choice of entres to choose from and all at a great price. Not a great date place but staff is friendly and food is GOOD!

  • H P.

very good fast asian food at extremely reasonable prices. perfect takeout place, call ahead and they'll have your food ready for you. i like the beef with tomato dish as well as the chicken and eggplant. the tofu salad starter is excellent as well. beef ribs are huge, and they give you a truly generous portion of it. one of the best values in town.

  • Kristina R.

HOT WOK SUCKS! We ordered 2 boxes of shrimp fried rice and had a total of 7 shrimp between both boxes. Then we had hardly any chicken in our Lo Mein box. Owner said he made them so nothing was wrong with them. So I guess the boxes ate what we didn't get, right?! SHAME ON YOU for NOT LISTENING to your customers WE WILL NOT BE BACK and I WILL SPREAD THE WORD YOU CHEAT!!!!!!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
