The food is amazing... The Korean spicy seafood noodle soup is the best in town.. handmade fresh noodles and the freshest seafood.. the vast menu is a little intimidating at first but its worth the time to look through the entire menu..

The entrance is actually in the rear ( parking lot) Once you step in, your greeted. I liked the atmosphere inside. My waiter was second to none, and the food is well prided. , bot to mention it tasted great. I never asked for refills and my waiter went out of her way to make sure I was satisfied. I've been here about three times and I will continue to go. It live fairly far from there, but its a small price to pay, for the great service friendly service, well maintained, and did I mention the food is great?

good food and good prices i have had several items from the beef section and liked them all. soups and appetizers are also pretty good. never had a stomach ache from this place. i suggest giving the hunan beef a try i ordered delivery and it came separated so the breaded beef was not mushy

I'll be continuing my search for fresh, flavorful dim sum in Tucson because Great Wall China does not make the cut. We ordered a number of dishes and were less than satisfied with most. The roasted duck was flavorful, but over cooked and dry - even rubbery in some parts. Sesame balls should be served hot and crispy, but these were a soggy, lukewarm, oily disappointment. The turnip cakes were an exception to the disappointment. Turnips are shredded and fried, making for a sweet and flaky, almost buttery square of yumminess. The service, while friendly, was slow and inattentive. The prices are fair but overall I would not recommend this place to a friend unless their expectations were very low.

I have been procrastinating writing a review for this place. There's nothing really special about this place. It's just like one of those chinese eatery you see in every corner.

Please don't go!!! Big menu but many of them are either not available or they can't serve because the foods are still too FROZEN. (That's what the server explained, and most of the food we ordered tasted really old and frozen) We tried a couple of dimsum dishes, which were just okay, rather disappointing, the wonton soup wasn't very impressive, and fried pork bun was odd. Very very greasy and no pork inside. We also ordered a Vietnamese noodle dish with salad and egg rolls and that was sadly horrible. We go eat Vietnamese pretty often and I think I have never tasted such thing before. We wouldn't go back. And whenever I pass by the restaurant, I feel really sad to see that so many people still go eat there.

No more Dim sum. So sad. It was the best in town. Just came for take out walnut shrimp and discovered they charge an additional $3 for the soup and appetizer on take out orders. It's included if you dine in. The shrimp was very good. Nothing wrong with their food, it's wonderful. Have to wonder about their policies though. Also photos of Mr.Ahn are all over the place, but he hasn't own Great Wall in years. Interesting.

Don't waste your money. I got this delivered for dinner tonight and am disappointed. I ordered the Kung pao chicken and out of the entire entree there is maybe 5 small pieces of chicken and then TONS of flavorless vegetables. The calamari isn't even recognizable except for the disgusting, extremely fishy smell. The only decent thing is the rice...

  • Teresa E.

Really bland. We ordered sesame chicken, lo mein, and steamed dumplings. The dumplings order was wrong - fried - and cold. The sesame chicken was ok. The lo mein was really bland and without flavor. We wont order from this place again.

Twice tried, twice denied. Goodness, me. What a horrible set of experiences at this restaurant. First try: I sat with my menu for a good 20 minutes and didn't get any additional service. Not even a quick drive by. I even thought about walking into the next room to flag down my server but opted to just leave. Second try: Service was very attentive this time! But a couple of things left me feeling like the Great Wall is not worth a third try. First of all, I am very thrilled to see that the restaurant serves dim sum. I generally go to Gee's Garden, but wanted to give this place a try. Mistake. The dim sum cart sat motionless in the middle of the restaurant for I don't know how long. I didn't notice this until I placed my order, and my server brought the cart from behind a wall. I tried the siu mai, BBQ pork buns, har gau, shark fin and one other type of bun. My immediate impression? Most of the wrappers were beginning to dry out. And you know how wonderfully plush buns are meant to be? These looked to be slightly burnt on the bottoms, so much that the papers stuck to them and had browned. At the end of my meal, I had quite a bit of food left, some I decided to take with me and some I decided to leave behind. When the server caught wind of this, she asked why I was leaving food behind. I told her the items did not taste fresh and that they were stiff. Not only did she proceed to tell me, "No, no. They are fresh," but two other servers came by to affirm her statements. Wow! Three servers now when I couldn't get one on my first visit! Since they refused to believe me, I asked them to touch the food I was leaving behind. One did, and then she went quiet. Then one of the others told me -- no lie! not even exaggerating: "When you take it home, put it in the microwave with a few drops of water on it. Leave it in for a few seconds. It will become soft again." ...whaaa?! But I came to eat at your establishment! Not to take your food and microwave it at home! Wooooow. Folks, over the more than 10 years I have been enjoying dim sum I have had amazing, AMAZING dim sum in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and elsewhere. I trust and believe I am a decent judge of what is fresh and what is sloppy. This was hands down one of the most outlandish experiences I have had at a restaurant. I won't be going back.

I have tried this restaurant several times hoping it was just the day or something but both times I left very disappointed with the service as well as the taste of the food. The spicy broccoli with garlic sauce wasn't spicy at all, in fact it had little flavor at all. And they didn't serve any rice with it saying it isn't an entrée. Really? Its a vegetarian dish that costs $8, can't give me rice with it. I won't be going back

Dad and I were expecting good things from Great Wall of China due to their relation to Dragon's Palace, but our experience today was far from great, unfortunately. For starters our server was in a big rush to take our order. She came back to ask us if we were ready two times in three minutes. And maybe that would have been fine, except that other than bringing us our appetizer and food, she was completely absent from that point. I had an empty glass of water for the entirety of the meal. Our appetizers were nothing to write home about. We got some decent Egg Drop soup, along with a bland egg roll with sub par sweet and sour sauce. We also got some surprisingly tasty chicken wings that sadly ended up being the highlight of our meal. My Orange Beef was oddly bitter. It reminded me of cheap beef dipped in steak sauce. Still, at least mine was edible. I tried a bit of my Dad's Teriyaki Chicken and I've gotta say, as non confrontational as I am, I would have had to send that back. The meat was so dry that no amount of Teriyaki sauce could have saved it, not that they made the attempt. All told our lunch specials set us back roughly sixteen dollars before tax and the tip, and I feel like that would have been fair if the quality was there, but sadly there's nothing I can really recommend from what I've seen. Even the decor was a mess. I think I'll stick to Dragon's Palace.

Worst dinner I have ever ordered. If I could give this place a negative star I would. The delivery took an hour and a half, the food was cold and juices from the chicken soaked all crab puffs and egg rolls making them soggy. Driver was pleasant but food was terrible. Do not order here unless you wanna go to bed hungry.

Great Wall building restaurant,it is not about the looks, entrance is in back lot. Parking lot too. Party of two....upon enter door we're greet. Our waiter was great, way above the call. Keep our refills drink and check up on us. Not like others reviewers said must be old time. Good food choice from Korean,Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine . Great food, you get lots what you pay for. Four stars, have not check out the restrooms. To some people not important,it is to me. Clean restaurant and restrooms. We had lemon long grass shrimp and beef for two very good I was surprise that my stomach was full. When I go to Chinese buffet restaurant eat two and half plates. Meaning food is good!!!!! At Great Wall. Come to Great Wall of china not the one in China that is a long swim. ,

I've eaten dim sum in restaurants in Singapore, Hong Kong, London, San Francisco, and New York. Those served at The Great Wall of China were the worst I've ever been served in 45 years. They looked good but tasted like the chef had made them for the first time from a book written in a language he didn't comprehend. Curiously, the staff were quite charming and solicitous. Fire the chef or close the place down. Dine there at your own peril!

Worst sushi ever! We live near by, made an order for pickup and I swear they must have ran out of sushi and made a run to the nearest convince store... It was ew. Disappointing because my husbands lo-mien was really good and our friend didn't seem to mind his wonton soup... I just got the short end of the stick with the basic California roll.. Never again.

There was no host or hostess to great us. After about 8 minutes a waiter came out and sat us down. He was pleasant and courteous. The food tasted like it came from China 3 months ago. It was bland and slimy. The patrons that were there must have been regulars from the restaurants hey days. I would not recommend this place.

  • Yves J.

The customer service was awful. There were only two people there for takeout. The only other customers were leaving. The cashier/server left me at the front door and started cleaning tables. After 3 minutes or so she asked me if I was sitting down or picking up. Then she started doing something else. I had the Mongolian Chicken. It was ok. It was pretty oily and that surprised me. It tasted more like food from a mall food court. I would suggest you order the fried rice with this meal. My wife had the Chicken and Shrimp (yeah, right) Pad Tai. It was good. However, the entire dish only had 5 shrimp.

Take out or dine in its a wonderful experience. I adore there menu and prices and every time I have been it's good. Tonight was delivered but still the good old food I've grown to love. I can tell you this place is a good one to attend lunch and dinner. I have been to both now three this year and I love um.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Food and service were excellent here. The prices are moderate, the people are friendly, and the music is pleasant. I ordered the house lo mein, one of my favorite Chinese food items, and it was definitely one of the best lo meins I have ever had. The environment also made the experience quite authentic. Although their service may not seem very good at first, you have to understand that service in Chinese culture is generally unpleasant/rough. They are still friendly and will offer their best service. I will most likely eat here again, since it is my favorite Asian cuisine restaurant in Tucson.

I wanted Chinese food for supper, and this was the closest Chinese restaurant to home. I've had mixed results in the past so was hesitant to return. I ordered a fish house special with mixed vegrtables. It comes with soup, chicken wing, egg roll, and rice for $15. The main course arrived loaded with bell peppers, which I don't eat, and fish whose flavor and texture I don't like. I'm rejecting the dish and hope to order something else. I learned something new this evening - Sczehuan (sp?) food always comes with lots of bell pepper. The sauce was fine, and I would have eaten the meal had I liked the fish. I'm now eating a Hunan shrimp dish - lots of different veggies with some spiciness - hot from the wok, so to speak. The manager Sally came to talk with me; she explained the content of Sczechuan food to me 'cause I'd ordered another one with shrimp instead. I appreciated this.

Of the 12 items we tried to order, only 4 were available. I cannot comments to the quality of food because we left prior to eating.

Wow, this was bad. What's the simplest, blandest thing at a Chinese restaurant? Rice! Here, even the rice smelled rancid. Granted, I checked the reviews and knew I wasn't in for any special treat, but my work ordered lunch, so I thought, "hey, free lunch." Indeed, there is no such thing as a free lunch, as I will be paying a real price for my mistake. I got a Szechuan dish, and was pretty sure that it wasn't going to be anything near authentic based on their other dishes, and I was right! Rightly disappointed. But I'd given them the benefit of the doubt, and was sorely let down. It seems the lunch dishes come with a fried wing or drum, which was fine. Included egg roll was horrible, not anywhere near crispy, warm or good. Wonton soup was fine, maybe the dim highlight of the meal. When I opened the styrofoam container, I immediately knew something inside was signaling "DANGER!" I suspected it was the beef dish, but no, it was the rice! Brown rice that was either rancid, or cooked in a mildewed pot (which would be impressive. Mildew is not easy to produce here in Tucson). I quarantined the foul smelling rice, and tried the spicy beef. I can conclusively say it was not spicy (I even ordered extra hot), not by Arizona standards, not even by Indianapolis standards. I cannot conclusively say it was not beef. It very well may have been. It was rounded out by red peppers, green peppers and onions, which were as expected. Plenty of blah brown sauce was ladled all over the mess. I felt sorry for the drowned peppers and onions. I was inspired to write this seconds after eating it, in case I don't make it through the rest of the afternoon. I felt compelled to warn others. Avoid at all costs, even the cost of free. Tucson doesn't have the best options for Chinese food, but here are a number of places a thousand times better, and safer (Jun Dynasty, Brother's Noodles, etc).

I don't know what to make of this place. It's like it's bipolar. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's god awful. I don't know what's going on in the kitchen, but this place has huge potential being knocked down by inconsistent quality and too many things on the menu that are mediocre.

FOREWARNING: This review is long and detailed, but if you're even slightly considering eating here, read this. First off, I'd like to say that I searched for reviews of this restaurant after finding a flyer for them on my apartment door upon returning home today. After reading these reviews I almost didn't order from here. I spent an hour looking at other Chinese food places in Tucson. Ironically though, I ended up coming back to this one BECAUSE of the bad reviews and the flyer on my door. I figured they wouldn't take the time to put up menus if they weren't trying to fix their bad reviews and get more people to try them. They must have improved SOMETHING. I was right. The gentleman on the phone was very polite and patient. I ordered crab puffs and two dinner specials; beef and broccoli and szechuan spicy beef. I got fried rice, an egg roll, chicken wing, and a different soup for both(hot & sour soup and egg drop soup) for 9.99 each. My order was at my door within 40 minutes. WOW, was it packaged nice. Absolutely NOTHING was spilling every where like every other Chinese food experience I've ever had. You could tell they took time to prepare and package everything. I was pleasantly surprised. Everything that I ordered was fresh, full of flavor, and cooked perfectly. The broccoli wasn't soggy and mushy like I've had so many times before, the beef seemed like ACTUAL beef and the taste was fantastic. The Szechuan beef I asked for spicy/hot but when I tried it didn't seem spicy at all. I was disappointed with my first bite and almost didn't eat it due to the lack of spiciness. I tried a couple more bites though and was soon glad I didn't get it blazing hot. It was slightly sweet with a nice kick. It tasted great and if I had it blazing hot like I had thought I wanted it, I wouldn't have been able to taste all the great flavors in it that I had. The rice was great, egg rolls were great, chicken wings I didn't care for due to them not having any oyster sauce on them, and as for the soups, I was so full I didn't even get to try them but I'm excited to later on. As for the crab puffs, you get a lot of them for your money and I could tell the cream cheese in them was fresh. They were great! When I first opened up the containers, I felt I was ripped off a little bit on money for the portions; but after tasting them, it was well worth it. Will DEFINITELY be ordering from them again and I'm so glad I found such a great Chinese food restaurant here in Tucson!! Definitely give it a try, I'm beyond grateful that I did. Only cons I could come up with: -Not enough rice for entrees, will order an extra side of it next time. -There was a lot of sauce in both entrees, but it was flavorful and added a nice touch with the food sitting in it. -There was not very much beef in my Szechuan dish but I ended up being okay with it because the peppers tasted wonderful.

I ordered delivery for the first time since their reviews started going down. We used to love eating here, but we lived too far away to keep going. We moved to a place closer, but we were scared to eat here after so many bad reviews. I know this is not the most fancy or beautiful place in town, but the food is still as good as it always was. I have been missing out for almost a year. I assume the bad reviews were because of the appearance. True, they need to close for 24 hours and sanitize the place, give it a nice new coat of paint, and replace the old furniture, but look past all that and eat here. The hostess is a super friendly woman who always bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. She remembered us after only eating there once! They give various types of discounts and have several specials. I will be eating here again, andI will restore my status as a regular.

I showed up for the lunch hour and just wanted to order some sushi, you have to tell your server what you want, not like other sushi places where you fill out a form, so I ordered a shrimp tempura roll, a "pink lady", and yellow tail nigiri. I waited for my sushi with a bowl of miso soup that was way too salty and concentrated. After at least 25 minutes my sushi came. My server dropped it off and disappeared , she didn't ask me if I needed anything, but I needed chopsticks and a side of yummy sauce so she finally comes around and gets me what I need 10 minutes later. In the mean while I observed another server, later to be known as Chris, who was helping a table of 12 ladies, and still had time to comment that he liked my shoes. He helped them like a champ, and even took notice and seated new arriving customers. I wish he would of been my server. My sushi pieces were huge, I usually don't mind big portions, but with sushi you want it to fit into your mouth. The yellow tail, wasn't white and buttery, it looked like dark pink tuna...not sure what it was but it was OK. I asked my server for a little box and my check and she asked Chris if he could take care of it and unfortunately she's getting the tip. The place wasn't very busy, but with servers like her.....My only advice is to Chris...run for your life, you would be better appreciated and monetarily compensated any where but here. As for the sushi? your better off somewhere else.

Awesome Chinese restaurant. I have eaten there several times and never had a bad experience. I usually get the sweet and sour pork and shrimp low mein. Staff is always friendly. Pleasant atmosphere, fast and attentive service, tasty food. "It's all good".

I've come here a few times in the past few years and the food is good and the service has always been friendly. Nothing really stands out with me with the exception that they have sushi! I'm a self admitted sushi slut, so being close to Davis Monthan and only having about 45 minutes for lunch It's my go to. 9 bucks for a rainbow roll and the chef is non traditional but hey, it's sushi on a budget in a rush! Not bad, but nothing extra, just good food at a good price!

What happened to this place? :( We went here on Mother's Day and was unimpressed by the end of the visit. We tried of their Shomai (Pork Dumplings) and Shrimp Dumplings. Unfortunately both tasted like they weren't season/spiced at all. We wouldn't order them again. The highlight of our meal was the soy sauce noodles that's on their dim sum menu. Basically it's noodles stir fried with eggs/some veggies. Very yummy! Service was lacking. There was a couple next to us that spoke our waitress' native language and clearly observed that she was more attentive towards them. Regardless of whether or not they were regulars or possibly family it's unfair that we were disregarded.

Someone please, save me from Tucsons lack of good Chinese food...... Now I'm first to admit, I am spoiled. I come from the Bay Area and amazing Chinese is every couple of blocks. I've lived in Tucson for 5 months and yet to find a good place. Everyone told me this was the place.. Maybe I got my hopes up too high. Potstickers were a joke, pretty sure they were some microwave brand. Small and flavorless. Mongolian beef was good if I wanted sugar flavored beef. Seemed fresh, good texture. Zero spice and I requested extra spicy. I don't remember what else I ordered... Won't be going back.

I was so excited when I realized I lived in the delivery area of The Great Wall. I am from San Fran and am always looking for decent takeout. My daughter loves the Orange Chicken, which is actually pretty good. I have ordered from here more than a dozen times. I have tried a variety of dishes. I love House Lo Mein, but sometimes it is so oily and slimey it is inedible. The Curry Shrimp/and or any protein is a joke. It's so watery there is no actual curry taste. The veggies in the dish are raw. No more dumplings, so you can only order the soggy potstickers. The delivery service is good, things are packaged well, but it's a crap shoot on whether it's gonna taste good. I CAN say that the Orange Chicken is good!

Ordered for delivery. We ordered mongolian beef, chicken curry, & 4 egg rolls. We only received 2 egg rolls which were cold. I dont mean that they just werent hot or fresh, I mean they were cold to the touch! The m.beef was not beef, we asssume it was pork...? Was rubbery, light in color, & had zero flavor. We called them & were happy when 4 new, fresh and warm egg rolls arrived along with some mongolian BEEF which was pretty good. all in all, it took 2 hours for us to recieve our full order. Not worth it for the wait or quality. Also pretty shotty customer service. meh...

Read all the negative reviews on this site so I had very low expectation. Nevertheless, I wanted to try it for myself. 3 colleagues and I decided to go out to lunch for dim sum. We googled and only 3 restaurants offered dim sum. We tried the other two and since two of us never tried this restaurant, with hesitation off we went. From the outside, it didn't look like much. But walking in, it had your typical Asian décor. The booths and table looked new. We roamed the premises looking for a staff to sit us and finally someone emerged from the kitchen. We grabbed the table menu for dim sum (sticky, yuk) and we started to order. The server warned us that it can take 20 mins for our food. But when it did, WE were all surprised that it was tasty!!!! We ordered 10 different items, of which only 2 were not suitable for consumption! they were the pork and shrimp dumplings (it was warm and still pink) and beef balls. Other than that I would try it again, specially since some of the dim sum items were specifically available for weekends only. PROS: My favorite was the rice wrapped chicken....never seen that in other restaurant. also worth mentioning, the BBQ pork bun was moist unlike what the other yelper mentioned, sweet cream bun, soy sauce noodles and Chinese broccoli were very good. Potstickers were mediocre. I like that you can order ahead online, saving some time...Maybe next time I will do that, Its worth a try again... CONS: Service sure could use some help as stated by fellow yelpers. During lunch hour, I only saw one server helping four other tables. Dim Sum table menu could use some degreaser!

I never been to this place before. My first impression of the place wasn't very good. I realized that my plates n tea cups are dirty. This makes me feel uncomfortable just eating here. I wouldn't want to eat at a dirty place. The menu had a huge variety of asian food ranging from Korean to Vietnames to fake Chinese food like Orange Chicken and King Pao Chicken to Dim Sum. I ordered the Spicy Seafood Korean Noodle Soup. It tasted pretty good. When they brought the soup, it had a spoon on the side. My spoon was dirty so I asked for another. The waitress asked to give my spoon to her when I was thinking, why can't she give me a new one and leave the dirty one at the table? It makes me feel like she took the dirty spoon and just wiped it off rather than giving me a new spoon. All the uncomfortable unsanitary things build up my thoughts about the spoon. I'm not sure if she did give me a new spoon of just wiped the dirty part of the spoon. Also I noticed one do the waiter was cleaning a table next to us. She didn't really wipe the table, all she did was gather the food that fell on the table and wrap it in the towel. Other than that, the soup I had tasted pretty good and I was satisfied what the amount of seafood pieces I got on my soup. Also it came in a large bowl which was pretty decent. I think I would come here again if I really want to have the noodle soup again just because I haven't eaten at any other place that serve this kind of soup. It would be nice if the restaurant put more effort in making the whole place a lot cleaner, mainly towards the tables, plates, cups, and utensils.

I'm really starting to think they should change the name to "The Crumbling Wall of China.... Service was ok but not stellar for sure and the food was mediocre. I will stick to Pacific Rim in Tucson because we clearly don't have any good Chinese restaurants. When the Great Wall re-opened a couple of years ago it was good but has steadily gone downhill since then. How do you say - GOOD BYE in Chinese?

    (1)

Probably one of the better Chinese/Asian places in town. Great egg rolls, the soup is good, and the service is top notch. They have a lot Korean seafood items on the menu; if you want some hardcore Korean seafood soup this is the place. The decor is nice and clean, too.

I have never been to Sakura and I never went to the previous Great Wall of China, so I wasn't really there to see if it was as good as before or similar to sakura. What I did find is that the food wasn't great, in fact it was pretty bland, actually it was tasteless. Service was weird, we had a lot of people coming to our table, including Mr. An, but no one really took a minute to asks us how the food was, or if we needed a refill, they just dropped food items and ran. Back to the food, it was one of those times when you spend your money and feel like you don't know if what you paid for it is worth it. When you wish you could turn back time and go somewhere else to eat. When you wish that you stayed home and had sandwiches instead. Like you just threw $60 out the window. It was not worth it, I'd rather tell you that the food was gross, that it made me sick, but it didn't, it just made me feel empty.

Food is average at best. EXTREMELY slow service. Do not eat here if you have to get back to work or have an appointment scheduled. Both times we went here we spent twice as long as here as we wanted to. Atmosphere is pretty decent but employees always seem stressed out.

  • Aaron G.

The service was horrible. Food did not come out together. Other food & drinks never showed up. Tables that arrived 15-20 minutes were served and gone before wet received what food we did receive. When it came time to pay the bill.... They could careless about the service we received.

I would give them a zero if I could mainly because they would not honor a gift certificate that was given to me and had been in my possession for about a week. Not to mention that it was expired by one day. The location is gross and the food is nothing special. If they are that stingy about gift certificates, they must really need the business. You would never guess that they were once owners of Sakura. Avoid this place like the plague.

Awful. First of all it was confusing coming into the restaurant. We stood there awhile before anyone helped us. We were seating in plastic buffet chairs at buffet type tables. The menu covered every Asian nationality I could think of which worried me. Focus on something and make it good don't try to do everything. But we hung in there and ordered. We ordered a variety of things off of the menu from pad thai to lo mein or some spicy chicken thing I don't remember. They also had sushi, we tried it. Everything was awful. The sushi was not even edible. It tasted like something you would get at a gas station. The food was all subpar with thick sauce and off taste. Nothing tasted right. It was so bad we left our food and asked for our check. Our waitress packed it all up for us without us asking. We took it home and threw it directly into the trash! We then ordered a pizza. I was excited to see they had dim sum because we love it. But there is no way I will go back to try.

Well, it was a mixed experience. My order was a delivery order. The prices were reasonable, they seemed to have a lot of specials/promotions which is always a bonus for me because some days I just don't know what I want to eat, so I will just pick a place because they're doing a promo! However, some of the food was OK, like their soup. It was typical, nothing special for me. But I liked the pot stickers. But the sweet and sour pork was terrible. The sweet and sour tasted odd, like it was on heat for too long and the pork was over cooked and really chewy. So in conclusion, although they have reasonable prices, for me, if the food is mediocre or worse, it's still not worth the money.

This place is a 3.5 but it gets a 3 because I would mark a place lower if I leave a restaurant not content. My wife, father and I went on his request even though it was at three stars. I keep in open mind when i go into any place no matter the ranking....here we go. We started with the wonton soup and calamari. The woton soup was average and the calamari was good. The calamari is not your typical seafood restaurant make up. It had onions and had thicker pieces, similar to chunks of meat vice the traditional curled bunches. The spicy sauce was definately good and highly recommended. My dad go the Tofu vegetable bowl which was made right in front of us, steam hissing and all; pretty cool, but not that tasty. Wife, as usual, has the mushu chicken which had a BBQ cooked flavor on it which i really liked, but she didnt. I would recommend it. I got the sesame chicken. Although hit and miss on the reviews, i though, WHY NOT?! Nothing special, unfortunately. the meat was cooked well, but had fatty pieces in it. The sauce it was in was average. Not recommended. Overall this place is hit or miss. What's up with the owners picture everywhere? Kinda narcasistic if you ask me.

Food was delicious but service lacked, our waiter Chris was great however, he tried everything he could to make up for the bad service. general tso and kung pao and kids teriyaki were yum. Best egg rolls. Too bad we might not be back due to the customer service issue.

Very good food with lots of variety to choose from. I like the fact there was the classic dishes, but then also a few twists on the old favorites. Definitely worth going back to for another lunch or even dinner. I would have rated it 4 stars (food had no problems) but I was a little disappointed in the service level. Staff was very friendly but seemed overly distracted for a day when they weren't that busy. our meals came out without rice or sides and it took a long time to get anyone to even pause at our table long enough to explain the situation. In the end it was still an enjoyable meal and experience, we weren't in any hurry, it just would have been better if we could have had our meal all at the same time.

I have been going here for a couple of years now. My family and I usually get take out from here, but now we starting dining in. Last time we went here we ran into one of our favorite waitresses. I love the feeling when you go somewhere to eat and the staff knows exactly what you want. We will continue to eat at the great wall of china even though we have moved across town. We always get the shrimp fried rice... YUMMY!!!!!

I don't know what happened to this restaurant but it was not the same place I have been to many times. The person who sat us was very unpleasant. Not sense of humor at all, not that you have to have one in this particular position, but a personality would have been nice. We decided on a booth as opposed to a table. When we sat down we realized they were having their "dinner and a show" and the booth was very close to that and the noise was a little more than I desired at the moment. Now I have been there before during this and it did not bother me so maybe I just needed a little quiet time this particular evening. I asked to move to the other side of the restaurant and that helped with the noise however after we sat down and order our drinks I noticed bugs crawling on the wall and the table. They appeared to only be ants but still bugs, none the less. I asked to be moved once again and the woman seemed even more annoyed with me. I don't think I was asking anything out of the ordinary but who knows. The evening just went down hill from there. A waiter came to our table after we had ordered through the woman and he apologized for her demeanor. He was extremely busy as he seemed to be the only wait staff in the building and was also playing bartender, I felt bad for him however we felt the lack of attention. I still tipped him 20% because I know this wasn't his fault. The food was horrible. The rice was pasty and the chicken was burnt. I don't know at what point this restaurant took a turn for the worse, I swear we were just there a couple months ago. Im very disappointed and will probably never return.

I only eat two things when I come here, their Jampong and Jajangmyun. Best I have found so far in AZ other than what my mom makes of course. They put a decent amount of seafood in their Jampong and make the noodles fresh at the location. Highly recommend this place if you like Jampong and Jajangmyun or if you want to try it.

Food was bland. I asked for the "special" which was curry. I got shrimp and vegetables. I will say kudos for the yummy shrimp and the portion size of shrimp was great. However, the curry was bland! I had to add salt, and spicy sauce just to add some flavor to eat it. It didn't really taste like curry either. I would have gone to Thai or Indian if I were to order curry again. Also, my meal comes with soup, egg roll, and chicken wing. I don't eat meat other than fish, so when I asked if I could substitute, I was told no. They could have just switched the egg roll with a spring role in my opinion. The reason for a star up from a one, is that the service was friendly, and the place was clean and nice.

Good, American-style Chinese food that does not disappoint. We usually go for lunch because they have great specials: for $6-9 you get fried rice, soup, chicken wing, and an entree. The lo mein is good, and the orange chicken or sesame chicken entrees are large enough for leftovers.

Well, Great Wall is certainly not in my neck of the woods, but it was totally worth a trip to Air Force Base land to check this place out. Not too many people in there on a Friday night. By the time we left, we were the last people out except for a drunk girl who had come for a take out order and stayed to embarrass herself by stumbling around and acting belligerent. That is besides the point, Great Wall is good! We tried as many different dishes as we could fit on the table (what is it about Chinese food that makes you order more than it is humanly possible to consume?) The stand outs were the calamari, very light and crispy with a very delicious sauce, and the walnut shrimp. Yum! Giant shrimp and plenty of walnuts in a sticky but not overly sweet glaze. I was pretty bored with the soups and the crab wontons. The prices are higher than the average Chinese joint, but you get to see the owners face adorned on every surface and the customer service is really outstanding. In these ways, Great Wall sets itself apart.

Just been here twice so far, but it seems good, for Tucson. They actually seem to be capable of cooking up the authentic cuisine, Chinese and some Korean too. Prices are rather high, like double California prices.

Great Wall China - what can I say? It has food that bears a slight resemblance to Chinese food. Or should I say it has a product served by servers that bears a slight resemblance to food. I have never before seen my partner/girlfriend send food back, but it happened today. Our meal started with Jasmine tea unlike any Jasmine tea I have ever had. It may as well have been Lipton's tea. Not bitter, not awful, not Jasmine. We opened our napkins hoping to find something to stir the tea with, and found some awful Japanese style plastic chopsticks. Re-usable chopsticks are not necessarily "green" particularly in the desert where water is a scarce resource. And food slips right off the sticks and back onto the plate (if you are lucky). Then arrived a complimentary egg roll and chicken wing, very annoying to a semi-vegetarian like myself. Beef and chicken should definitely not be served unannounced in an Asian restaurant. Amy's egg roll was excessively salty and without flavor. Mine went untouched. We were presented with egg drop soup (so so) and finally our appetizer, the vegetable spring rolls which we had ordered. We ate half of one spring roll and discarded the other one and one half. The egg roll had a strong and disagreeable off flavor. Old frying oil and bitter vegetables? Who knows. Finally, our main dishes arrived. Pan fried noodles and sweet and sour chicken. The pan fried noodles were salty beyond belief. There was no way to eat the dish. The noodles soggy and not crisp. And the noodles tasted of old oil. The sweet and sour chicken was mediocre. I have had better at the local Chinese buffets. Sweet and sour sauce out of a can is the same whether at a buffet or a nice sit down restaurant, lousy. All in all, we will never go back there.

This was one of my favorite places. But the past two or three times, the food was not up to its very high standards. Since I have been such a loyal customer for years, I figured that maybe they hired a new chef that maybe was having a hard time catching on. So, of course I was going to give them another chance or two. This last time was just the last straw. I made a to go order and brought it home and it didn't smell right at all. None of the food did. I stuck with the egg drop soup because I was a bit hungry and that seemed ok. I wound up feeling sick to my stomach. So of course I called and spoke with the manager. He did apologize and offered to remake the food but I politely refused because I was feeling ill and just wanted to go to bed. He took my phone number and left a message with his boss to please call me. That was a week ago and no call. To me that is total and complete disrespect. At this point I called Mr An's son. I have known Mr An and his son for a very long time to let them know what was going on. I haven't spoken to them in awhile because I had to go back to Maine to help my father when he got sick. What I found out was interesting though. They had sold the resteraunt about 5 months ago. Now everything made sense. Mr An would never let food like that go out. I will never go to Great Wall of China again. Mr An needs to make sure his name is not associated with this food. I will of course go to his other places.

Wow. Wow. Mr. An knows Chinese food. This is the best Chinese in Tucson. Great wait staff and really tasty soup with the best egg drop soup I have ever had anywhere including NYC. The Calamari was excellent too though I didn't eat much of it as my daughters gobbled it down.

I chanced on this restaurant during my hellish stay on Craycroft Rd (see review for Super 8, Tucson) ... glad I did. Having had more than one, less than a million Chinese takeouts I definitely know the drill - but I was surprised to be seated at the bar and receive something I hadn't experienced in a while: GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm keeping this short, but if I could, I would gush on and on ... I had the calamari, sesame chicken, and egg rolls. All excellent, fed two, total bill $25. Yes, there's the ubiquitous picture of the owner (?) everywhere but I just read that as "hey, this is the guy to go after if you don't like our sh..." Thank you, Great Wall for being the only bright spot during my stay in Tucson.

Don't listen to all the previous blowhards! Food is great, service is great, and prices are resonable. I can't believe that the place with the best Chinese in Tucson could have such bad reviews...go there you won't be sorry.

You know what I like about Mr. Ahn? He seems to have both a healthy sense of self-importance and a lack of interest in prepositions. I dig it! I know the place is called Great Wall OF China, but for the life of me, I couldn't find an "of" on the sign outside. It was almost as if the proprietor was saying to passerby, "Yeah, I know the sign says 'Great Wall China.' If you have a problem with it, I'll keep smiling while Number One Son Gonzo comes by your house with a baseball bat. He's retired. He's got the time. Don't think I'm kidding." But that's neither here nor there. I had avoided this place, if only because of the Ernst Blofeld-like portrait of the owner that hangs ominously over the building's kitschy facade. That said, I had a lousy day at work, I wasn't feeling like cooking, and I wanted some good old Americanized Chinese food, so I stopped by. Despite the 2-star rating, I didn't hate the Great Wall experience; I just didn't think it was especially memorable. The decor is clean, well-maintained, and feels a bit like an Asian-influenced sports bar. The photographs of the owner glad-handing various local luminaries and sports personalities are ubiquitous, and lend the establishment a sense that one is always being watched by near-greatness while one eats. The staff was more than courteous, attentive, and eager to please. Service was lightning-fast, too. The time from entering the restaurant to eating was something like 7 minutes. Granted, the place was a little deserted, so rush times might be a different matter entirely, but who knows? I ordered the Pork Shajin, which was described (ominously, I might add) as pork and assorted vegetables "in our special dark sauce." Such an enigmatic and vaguely menacing-sounding dish simply had to be ordered. Unfortunately, the dish didn't live up to the description. Frankly, Mr. Ahn could have said that the meat was slathered in the blood of children, and I get the sense that it still would have been as bland as what I received. In fact, the meal was almost entirely devoid of taste. I can confirm that the sauce was, in fact, dark, but as far as I could tell, darkness simply equated with saltiness. The pork was thinly sliced spareribs, which were actually cooked pretty well - not especially tough or fatty, even though they were a bit on the grey side. The vegetables were pretty delightful - they were a mix of steamed baby bok choy, sliced mushroom caps, zucchini, carrots, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts. I imagine they would have been tasty, had they been spiced/seasoned properly. At least it wasn't overly greasy or coated in MSG. As with most American Chinese places, the portions were huge; I'll probably get at least two more meals out of what I got. Additionally, the order came with hot and sour soup, the requisite fried wonton wrappers, an egg roll, and a vaguely Asian-inspired fried chicken wing. While we're talking about the accoutrements, the only seriously awful part of the meal was the egg roll. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that a bowl of manteca would have been in less need of a blotting towel. I could only get through about half of it, before I had to put it down. The prices were par for the course and eminently reasonable for what I was served. The whole meal only set me back $12.95. I just wish it had tasted a little better. Great Wall is definitely not going to be my Chinese food destination, but it's certainly not the worst I've ever had. I'd say it's pretty middle-of-the-road, in terms of Americanized Chinese. Also, I dig the fact that the meal wasn't loaded with sugar and corn starch, which lots of Am-Chi places seem to think are the quintessential ingredients for Asian sauces. The quality of the vegetables alone suggest that perhaps I simply ordered the wrong thing off the menu. Plus, the place is within walking distance of my house, so I imagine I'll stumble over there again at some point. I wouldn't want to piss off Mr. Ahn, after all.

this is a definite place to check out. not for the food but just to see the grandiose picture of the owner as the sign...i kid you not (supposedly the owner is putting his reputation on the line by doing that)!!! that is the funniest thing i've seen in a long time, not to mention pretentious on another level (darn, wish i had taken a pic). it's a mandarin/korean style chinese food...with your usual selection of gam poong gi (dried fried chicken), tang soo yook (sweet and sour pork), and jja jang myun (noodles in black bean sauce). must say, the food was pretty good for it being the only asian joint in tucson. the owner (who's in his 50's) was there in his pinstripe suit, black crew neck shirt underneath, chains and bald head....gangsta, straight out of a korean drama *shaking head*. them koreans are embarrassing...

Also pretty shotty customer service. meh...

I'm pregnant and was craving wings and we were recommended this place. At first my hubby and I were hesitant. Wings at a Chinese food restaurant? But we decided to try it since so many people suggested it. I have never had wings so amazing. I loved them!

Food is average at best. EXTREMELY slow service. Do not eat here if you have to get back to work or have an appointment scheduled. Both times we went here we spent twice as long as here as we wanted to. Atmosphere is pretty decent but employees always seem stressed out.

The service was horrible. Food did not come out together. Other food & drinks never showed up. Tables that arrived 15-20 minutes were served and gone before wet received what food we did receive. When it came time to pay the bill.... They could careless about the service we received.

Probably one of the better Chinese/Asian places in town. Great egg rolls, the soup is good, and the service is top notch. They have a lot Korean seafood items on the menu; if you want some hardcore Korean seafood soup this is the place. The decor is nice and clean, too.
