This is the best sushi in Tucson. In fact this is on par with some of my favorite places in LA. Whenever my boyfriend and I get sushi, we always overdo it but this was another level. We ordered 5 different rolls, as well as a few different types of sashimi and a few izakaya dishes. It was way too much but we just couldn't stop ourselves. The rolls were tight and the rice was cooked perfectly. The sashimi was beautiful, fat pieces of fish. The Chilean Sea bass was the best I've ever had. And the gyoza! And the tempura!! All of it was delicious. The only reason this isn't our regular sushi place is because it's so out of the way. If you love sushi as much as I do, please check this place out!

Two words: Sushi orgy. Jun, the owner, is a really nice guy. He used to work at Sachiko years ago and my closest Japanese friend (OBTW himself a sushi chef) would choose Jun to go to when he wanted sushi. That should tell you something. Fast forward 8 years and I am back living in Tucson and the closest sushi restaurant to my home is owned by.....Jun. The food was very very good. The support staff (wait staff, sushi men, etc.) all very good. Even saw Chuy (ex-Sushi Ten) behind the sushi bar. Couldn't stop ordering food........wherever you go in Tucson for sushi; stop. Go here.

Very impressed with the quality of food. I had the Salmon Tartare, Spanish Mackerel, Sea Urchin and a specialty roll. The rice was cooked perfectly and all of the fish was high quality and uber delicious. I will definitely revisit when I come to Tucson again.

My husband and I used to live in Japan. We love Japanese food and have been missing it since we left Japan. We first heard about Ginza Sushi from a friend and we were delightfully surprised to discover that it's close to where we live. We have been to this restaurant twice and both times we were very satisfied with the food and service. We recommend getting "nigiri sushi". The tuna and blue marlin sushi are outstanding. During our second visit, I also tried the ramen but it wasn't that great. I guess that I was spoiled by all the wonderful ramen in Japan. We also had the flan for dessert and it was a delicious capper to a wonderful dinner.

Definitely the best in Tucson. I've been coming here for 7 years and rarely a problem.

After two years in Tucson, I'd have to say Ginza is my favorite/go to sushi place in town. There are many that I like around town, but I like Ginza best because I feel they have the freshest and tastiest fish. Plus they consistently carry Uni and Japanese large scallops. Their ramen and udon noodles are pretty good too. On top of their raw fish selection, they have a large menu to order off of. Many appetizers and cooked dishes. I usually go in during lunch and order a ramen, udon, or chirashi bowl. Then 3-4 orders of nigiri. Sometimes I'll just sit at the sushi bar and order sushi only till I'm full. Oh and this sounds crazy, but they have amazing flan. The owners are Japanese and Mexican. The wife who is Mexican makes the flan herself.

we came to ginza for my sister-in-law's birthday dinner. they were able to accommodate sixteen of us! the staff was very attentive and brought out our drinks and then took our food order. everything on the menu looked delicious and it was hard to decide what we wanted. my friend ordered the udon and i had a couple noodles. they were so delicious. i would definitely get that if i go back again. my husband and i shared a combo plate which we were able to choose items. we got the teriyaki chicken, assorted (5) piece nigiri and shrimp tempura. it also came with a salad. my husband also ordered a scallop dynamite which had flavorful sauce and a good amount of onions. wish there were just a few more mushrooms, though! the shrimp tempura was a bit soggier than i would've liked, and the teriyaki chicken was just mediocre. i was able to taste a few pieces of sushi from a couple different rolls and everything else looked and tasted delicious!

Ginza, definitely a favorite of ours when we're down in Tucson! This is somewhat of an Izakaya style restaurant, (like Japanese tapas, or finger foods) They have sushi too, which is very good. But, we really go here for the hot plates..... They make the BEST fried baby octopus, I mean the BEST, never chewy or rubbery, perfectly crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside as it should be. I also always order the unagi bowl, I think it's the best I've had anywhere. A lot of places usually douse the eel with eel sauce, but Ginza places just the perfect amount of sauce required and it is a fabulous dish. This is a great place for groups, they have several large table settings if need be, maybe just make a reservation first to be sure you get one of them. Service is great. One time we went, my stepdad wanted to order something fried, but he has a shellfish allergy. They actually made up a new batch of fry oil just for him! We thought that was so nice, I love restaurants that care about their patrons. I think the prices may be a little high for a true Izakaya, but, if you know what you like, just get that and it won't be too steep. But. If you're out for a tasting adventure, be sure to bring your wallet. And, one word of advice, Don't get the yamakake. Just don't. Everthing else is good. Just. Not. That.....

One of the first places we went to after the move. . Highly reviewed and didn't disappoint. We chose to sit at the sushi bar. Enjoyed miso, sake, and sushi. Very personable and attentive staff. Don't be afraid to ask the chefs for suggestions. They cut us some fresh and flavorful fish. We live close by, so I'm sure we'll be back to check out what else the menu has to offer. We had a regular suggest that we try the flan, which I'm sure we will do later on.

Ahh, Ginza, Ginzahhh, how much can one love sushi? So fresh from the sea, like a lover the flesh caresses you, tastebudgasm after tastebudgasm. To savor and swish such luscious fish is sheer delight to sushi snobs such as me. Anklimo, aji, hokkaisan, I await komochicombu and chawanmushi treasures. I've dined literally at thousands of fine Japanese establishments, and have met and made a fresh new local friend. You shall see me again, in secret and in the open, for it is I who have fallen deeply in love. Continue to treat me well, Ginza, by your lovely servers and dashing chefs, as I continue equally to marvel at your many talents and edible, artful delights. Itadakimasu.

Very friendly staff and nice quaint atmosphere. Sushi was among the best I've had in Tucson, certainly top 3. Also, I really like the Netflix fish tank show.

Just finished my second trip to Ginza Sushi and as with the first time the food was amazing. I can't remember another sushi place where I enjoyed so many of the items on their special rolls menu.

Hidden gem in Sabino Canyon. This sushi is the freshest I've come across in Tucson. We were greeted immediately upon entering and seated promptly outside. Our server was helpful and very atttentive. We ordered the sushi boat which contained 33 beautiful cuts of sashimi. My son ordered the ramen and he loved it. Ramen came with sliced pork, veggies and a soft boiled egg on top. We ordered the iced green tea which was deep green and very flavorful. A must try sushi place if you're in the area...even if you're not, is worth the drive. Sit outside and enjoy the view of Sabino Canyon and Ventana Canyon.

It is definitely my favorite Japanese restaurant. (*)‧ I love its karaage( fried chicken) and banana tempura soooooo much. You will never get anything wrong from here. Toro nigiri sushi is great though it's a little bit too expensive. The Combo is a good choice for lunch.

Just moved from Chicago to Tucson and was so pleased to stumble across Ginza. It has to be the best sushi (and quality of fish) in town. This is my 4th visit and their quality and authenticity continues to impress me. What a gem Tucson!

Update: I just came across this video of a man eating chirashi in Tokyo, and he does indeed have a shrimp head in his bowl too. Only difference is his shrimp head was attached to a delicious raw prawn, whereas mine was just thrown in, left over from some shrimp they served to someone else. The rest of his chirashi bowl was equally incomparable to what these guys gypped me with. His cost $16. Mine $40. youtube.com/watch?v=Z9nJ… PS The girl who checked off "funny" under my review also PM'd me. She said I don't know how good a shrimp head is. So I offered her another $40 if she can eat a big shrimp head, tentacles and all. My offer still stands, and maybe she can PM me again, and maybe these guys can find another big shrimp head for her in their garbage pail.

Best sushi in town! The care taken by the staff to ensure you fully enjoy your meal makes this place that much more special. We had the ahi tuna roll and the sashimi are delicious. A must try!

I recently moved to Tucson after living in Tokyo for the past 8 years. I need nigiri sushi in my life, but I don't need excessive maki or crazy rolls. Luckily I live near ginza. The nigiri sushi here is great and they have rolls and other "Izakaya" style foods if that's what you're looking for. Yeah it's pricy, but it's Arizona. Fresh fish has to come from afar. It's good, not Japanese sushi good, but it's the best in this area. Definitely not an izakaya either even though the menu may elude to it. It's a good sushi-ya with a friendly efficient staff. Recommended!

How I haven't written a review for this place yet is straight criminal...! Ginza easily tops the list of fine Japanese dining in Tucson. Owned and operated by a fantastic Japanese sushi chef, Jun, Ginza restaurant doesn't compromise with crappy Americanized sushi rolls. Instead, they stick to not only traditional Japanese sushi, but also a wide variety of well-done authentic Japanese dishes. Their fish is some of the most fresh I've found in Tucson, and is always consistently well prepared and presented. Their prices are a little on the high side, but the quality of the food is well worth the price of admission. The ambiance is wonderful ~ low lighting and dark toned interiors, light Japanese strings playing in the background, and no TVs to distract your dining experience. Their entire staff has always treated me and my guests with consistently great and timely service, accompanied by a warm smile. One thing lacking from Ginza, and all Japanese restaurants in Tucson, is a well-done Ramen soup... But there is great hope, as my recent conversation with Jun suggested that he's interested in opening a proper Ramen house in downtown Tucson ~ that would be an absolute delight and massive contribution to Tucson's growing and diverse food scene. Am hopeful this will happen ASAP :)

By far the best sushi in Tucson! Very friendly service and the quality of the fish is amazing. Not to mention I've eaten at about every sushi place in Tucson. Finally it took me 5 years to find a diamond in the rough. Can't wait to go back!

I came here for a birthday lunch with coworkers. I had reserved a table for eight people. When we got there, the table was ready and we were immediately greeted. I love sushi and there were lots of choices. I decided to get the 8 piece sushi lunch special. It included my favorites: salmon, yellowtail, octopus, tuna, black snapper, etc. You aren't really allowed to pick the fish you want, like all 8 pieces of tuna, but you can specify which kind you don't like (e.g. No shrimp). Not all my coworkers are into seafood, so some ordered karaage (fried chicken) or teriyaki chicken. They all said it was delicious. If you are into fresh fish or just want to try authentic Japanese food, I recommend you stop here.

Consistently great sushi. Always freshest seafood in Tucson. There are sushi restaurants that act more hip or spend more on advertising - but this is the real deal. Tucson is blessed to have a sushi restaurant that cares this much about the quality of their food - every day.

I have been here several times and I like the food for the most part. -here it is- However, last time I was there I was met with rude service from the hostess. No smile, nothing. To be fare, the waitress for our table was great and very friendly and attentive. Food was okay. Yellowtail nigiri was covered in ponzu, or some kind of sauce and it didn't even look like yellowtail very much. When I order nigiri, I want to enjoy the fish and not just a bunch of sauce. Warning me about this would have been prudent. The noodles were way too hard. Zarusoba is something I have tried from Kyushu area to Tokyo so I admit I'm a little picky. Lastly, I don't mind higher prices given the area and format of restaurant - izakaya - but what I get better be amazing for the price. This time it wasn't. Don't think I'll go back.

Ginza, where have you been during my whole year in Tucson??? I live near Ginza and had no idea it was there and I've suffered through such bad sushi here in Tucson. Sad for a 1/2 Japanese-American who has had to travel to LA for good sushi. Until now. Just had the lunch special, a STEAL at $10-14!! Delicious, fresh sushi, in Tucson!! Woohoo! I will definitely be back! Yay!

I only come here on the days my boyfriend and I decide to eat nice. It's so worth it. I order the Zarusoba & Tempura with gyoza. The size of them are bigger than usual and it's served on a hot plate! The noodles I can tell are handmade (from the shape and texture) and my boyfriend can agree (he got the ramen). It feels very legit and fancy-ish. Service is nice too! Would come again~

I've heard quite a few praises for Ginza from a friend so finally decided to give Ginza a try. Quite the drive from my NW home but I was already on the east side so off we go. Entering I was impressed by the ambiance and decor though some music would have been a welcome touch. The staff was friendly and we were immediately seated at the sushi bar, looked over the menu and surroundings and rather pleased with their selection of food and drink. Now for ordering, we started off with some Miso soup which was very good with plenty of Tofu and good flavor. We then shared the Mango, Ceviche and Rainbow rolls along with Halibut and salmon iniri, all were fresh, tasty, delicious, fresh, did I say tasty?, crunchy, yummy and very palate pleasing thus the favorable rating. We WILL be back!

Stumbled on this place after looking through Yelp. I was told that you could not find good sushi in the desert, but this place was apparently an oasis. It was my first visit on a recent work trip to Tucson and I'm a fan of great sushi. The sushi bar is in a strip mall tucked away from the street so you have to look for it once in the parking lot. I sat at he sushi bar and the Itamae asked what I would like. He offered up a few suggestions and I asked about various fish. He recognized that I was experienced with sushi and then offered up "omakase" (chef's choice). He asked if I wanted all sushi, all sashimi or a combination including salad. I went for the combination. He chose some amazing fish including, toro, sake, ikura, uni and even deep fried fish carcass. It was fairly busy and he along with a couple of other chefs kept pace with the crowd. I awaited in anticipation as to what would come next, as he served me two or three fish at a time before going back to other customers. It was like a Christmas sushi, waiting to devour whatever would come next. I certainly left full and the omakase experience took about an hour and a half, a nice leisurely pace to eat and drink Echigo beer. It will be on my agenda the next time I'm in Tucson.

Probably one of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to in a long time. Very friendly staff, fantastic sushi, great drink selection, and REALLY COOL BATHROOMS HAHA! I spent over $100 without batting an eye. It was worth ever penny!

Definitely the best ramen in Tucson. Hands down. Broth is delicious with the right aroma and fat amount, noodle is chewy and fresh. Great toppings too. Service is always good, fast and friendly. Sushi is also good. Overall the best Japanese restaurant in town.

I ordered the Fujiyama roll and the Hiroshima roll. The Hiroshima roll was fantastic. The Fujiyama roll, on the other hand was dreadful. The baked topping had the worst fish taste. My companion tried both and had the same thoughts. The waitress didn't even ask if something was wrong when I sent my plate back with only two bites gone. Disappointing to say the least.

I've been exploring sushi options all around Tucson ever since I discovered the treat over 12 years ago, and Ginza continues to be my favorite. The restaurant itself is never too busy, and is full of a team of delightful and friendly staff. The couple that owns the restaurant is always there, welcoming guests old and new. The food is phenomenal. Their fish tastes fresh and their selection (as well as their monthly specials) always leaves variety and keeps me coming back for more. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if they're looking to try what delicious sushi Tucson offers. (Favorites are probably the Caterpillar roll, Dragon Roll, and pork shumai. Always recommend the nigiri/sashimi selection as well as the green tea mochi as well!)

Cool traditional sushi place. I had the uni shooter because the chef said it was good today. Sour, salty, delicious with a little quail egg in it. Sashimi platter was great. Also had sake and got a special, the Abori Salmon Toro, a great way to finish the meal. Great service. Typical sushi prices. I'll come back soon

I really wanted to like this place, given all the good reviews. I played it safe and opted for the ginza bento. It had a bit of sashimi, and a bit of nigiri, so I can taste the quality first before spending too much on sushi. Hubby got the chirashi, and I ordered a california roll for the little one. I also saw that they had the jumbo scallops (which are my favorite), so I ordered one of that. *sigh* where to start... the california roll that came was so sloppy, I was seriously confused because other than us, there was one guy at the bar... The nigiri and the sashimi... not good at all... I only ate one of each, and didn't want to bother with the rest. The only thing I enjoyed of the bento was the salad and the tempura. Tempura was really yummy, I wish I had more (only reason I'm giving Ginza two stars) . The jumbo scallop that came was also terrible. No flavor at all, and texture felt mushy. I boxed up the rest because I hate leaving leftovers behind, but it didn't really matter. The leftovers stayed in the fridge till i eventually just threw it away. Maybe they were having an off day, because others have given it good ratings, but for me, I'll pass...

I had the Heart Attack as an appetizer and the Mixed Yakisoba. Steak was a little overcooked, but shrimp and chicken were wonderful! Noodles were excellent and sauce phenomenal. The chicken teriyaki dishes were excellent as well as the vegan rolls that we had. Small place with great service and feel.

Seriously awesome. The only really good sushi place I've been to in Tucson. The ramen is amazing too.

Sushi: freshest-tasting that I've had in Tucson. I was even impressed with the ubiquitous spicy tuna roll they served up. However, the scallops on the baked CA roll were a bit overdone. Decor: modern Japanese but still somewhat casual with slate walls, lanterns and Japanese calligraphy. Service: Very friendly and prompt.

We were very apprehensive coming here. We weren't worried that we'd get good sushi, just expecting to spend a chunk of change on something that doesn't usually fill my husband up. We read review after review of this place and decided to take plunge, and expected not to be shocked if we spent $75 (but crossing our fingers that it wouldn't happen) I am not hard to please when it comes to sushi; I am new to the raw fish game and always gravitate towards the specialty rolls with lots of yummy stuff in addition to the safe salmon or shrimp. My husband, on the other hand, is very picky and won't eat at a sushi place unless it's authentic. He had gotten a recommendation from some Japanese coworkers, which is why he wanted to try Ginza in the first place. We arrived a little after 5pm (in efforts to catch an early movie), and were the first (and only) diners for almost an hour. They don't open until 5pm for dinner, so that explains the slow start. We were glad to see the place fill up. The service was very polite and prompt, something I'd expect both from a Japanese restaurant and the fact that we were the only people in the place. We couldn't decide on whether to get a few fancy/specialty rolls or to get the sushi boat, and enjoy what turned out to be many pieces of sashimi including a California roll and a spicy tuna roll. We finally tried one of their bottles of sake they had on special for $15.95 and decided on the sushi boat at $38. The sushi (on an actual boat!) came out very quickly and we were floored. The fish was exactly how everyone has been saying-flavorful and buttery. Melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. (And yes, the Cali and spicy tuna rolls were delicious too) There was two of each selection: salmon, shrimp, albacore, octopus, etc. EIGHT different sashimi pieces in all (16 total). And yes, my husband left full and very happy. I highly recommend Ginza. The atmosphere, the FRESH sushi, everything. And our big concerns about the price? At just over $50, we were pleasantly surprised that it didn't break the bank, like we were expecting. I would love to come back and try some of their fancy stuff, which I'm sure will be a struggle since hubby was so pleased with the sashimi.

Really really good sushi! I went here with a group of friends and we split the bill on a sushi boat, a side of gyoza, and green tea. All the nigiri sushi was so delicious, and very fresh. I enjoyed the gyoza as well, they serve it on a little hot metal plate with vegetables. The green tea was genami-cha which is a green tea that has brown rice in it. In the past i was never a fan of genmai-cha but at Ginza it actually was quite good. Prices are reasonable, service is great, and also it was very pretty inside. (The bathroom looked pretty cool, not that it matters, but it was nice.)

I want to give this place all 5 stars. I really do! It's beautiful, clean, tasty, smells terrific, fresh... so on and so on. The waitress for lunch was helpful, attentive, hard working, and really accommodating. I ordered the sashimi and I was so surprised to find small pieces of everything and after all is said and done it was $16 after tip.... for standard free miso soup and tiny 1 inch cuts. I didn't even order a drink- just standard water also.... I love you guys but I just want to get a decent quantity! Mehhhhhhhhh

Came here with a party of 6 for a birthday dinner.. Service was pretty terrible. We started off with miso soups, and 3 amazing ginger house salads.. but sadly it all went downhill from there. The two orders of shrimp tempura that were ordered as appetizers came 10-15 mins apart. The chicken teriyaki (dinner portion) seemed like the kids dinner special.. it was TINY. The Jo rolls came out looking good.. (I didn't have any) but I did have one or two pieces of the california roll but it hardly had any crab.. The chirashi bowl was really good.. and seemed well priced due to the big pieces of sashimi in the bowl, so I won't complain about that. The portion size of the tempura icecream's + red bean + green tea + lychee sorbet was really big.. but sadly the lychee sorbet + red bean icecream had freezer burn in it. The worst offender was the service... the terribly slow and in attentive service. Our plates were not cleared throughout the entire dinner service, and the food was not brought out in a timely way. Water was also not refilled at all . When the birthday girl spoke up about the service we were receiving as well as the portion size of the chicken teriyaki, and the chances of us never coming back, the manager did not seem to care, and furthermore did not offer any condolences. Even more shocking.. even after complaining our table still wasn't cleared up. I don't want to say the birthday dinner was ruined but it definitely put a damper in everyone's moods because we really expected something fantastic from Ginza.

Nice sushi restaurant tucked away in a corner of a little shopping center. The interior of the restaurant is good and the ambience is equally good. When we first entered the restaurant it took a while to get noticed by the hostess and when she noticed us she was not very friendly. On the other hand, our server was very polite and helpful with the standard sushi questions. The sushi was good, not amazing, but good. They have a wide array of rolls to choose from, we got 4 different Maki rolls and 2 of 4 were really good. The other two were decent, but would definitely not recommend the "Sonoran roll". They did have Sapporo beer on tap which was neat as you do not see that on tap often. Overall I would go back but not before trying some of the other sushi joints in Tucson first.

This is the first sushi restaurant my husband and I went to when we moved to Tucson. We were so delighted to find a quaint sushi place that makes you feel like a seasoned guest. A year and a half later it's still our favorite. You can expect exceptional service and thick cuts of fresh fish. The freshest sushi in Tucson!

This is the place, that if Tucson had Japanese gangsters, you would find them. Why? Because it is 'effin awesome. Fresh, fancy, moderately expensive, and authentic. Heart attack roll. Jesus tap dancing Christ is this good. It is a jalapeno stuffed with spicy tuna, cream cheese, kanikama, and then deep fried. That successfully satisfied my inner American. As for my inner Asian, specifically of the Japanese persuasion, this place has a lot to offer. If you feel like spending some extra $$$ on a fancy, delicious, sushi dinner, go to Ginza!

I'm a sushi nut and have visited Japan many times as well as lots of good and great sushi bars in the USA. Japanese owner Mr. Jun is a charismatic guy who is a very proud of his craft as well as the sushi tradition. Many sushi bars today are owned by other nationalities who just don't get the whole sushi bar experience. Ginza has the friendliness, the liveliness, the quality of the fish which is such a part of the Japanese tradition. Plus Ginza has Sapporo beer on tap. Don't worry, just go. Say "osu" to Jun-san and let him prepare an excellent meal for you. Support Japanese owned an operated sushi bars!

I am Japanese, I am happy that I don't have to go back to Japan for sushi every time I crave it; I just stop by Ginza. Sushi is authentic and they have variety of appetizer/main dish such as Gyoza, Green Mussels, Teriyaki chicken and so on. I especially like fried baby octopus and baby octopus salad those goes well together with their Sapporo draft beer.

Our continued date night quest for cool and fun places to dine in Tucson. Went here last night and it was great. Greeting was immediate and seating was plenty. Our waitress was super attentive and the sushi was great. We ordered the Jo's special and heart attack and dumplings. The heart attack was super with a large raw jalapeño built in along with tuna and cream cheese. Hot and smooth at the same time, The Jo's special and dumplings were terrific. They offer a full bar with a food beer and wine selection. The sushi chef along with our waitress thanked us as we walked out. Super nice folks here and great sushi right in our neighborhood!

Meh. I've had better. I ordered the vegetarian bento box and it was ok...the usual, salad, veggie roll, veggie tempura...but it also came with 2 cubes of plain, raw, not seasoned, cold tofu. Very strange. I wish that was in my miso soup, instead. My mom specifically ordered the chicken bento box, but ended up getting just a side of teriyaki chicken. I specifically heard her order and even point at the Ventanna chicken bento box on the menu. When she asked the waitress where the rest of her food was, she said it didn't come with it. My poor mom being the nice person that she is didn't complain any more, but I know she was very upset that she didn't get the right order.

My girlfriend and I decided to try a new sushi restaurant for my birthday. After looking at the numerous reviews of Ginza, we decided this was our choice for the night. I was a bit cautious after reading that you should expect to spend mucho dinero. However, once there, we found the prices very reasonable and the sushi amazing! The interior was very sheik with ample seating, yet personal. The staff was friendly and attentive. Dinner for two that included an appetizer and more sushi than our stomachs could handle (though it was too good not to finish) came to about $50. As another reviewer said, if we're not at sushi on oracle, we'll be here. Try the ceviche roll and the green tea cheesecake, you can thank me later ;).

We just returned from an amazing dinner. Started with 2 tuna Poke salads, great fresh, just amazing. My wife had a glass of New Zealand wine, I had a 330 ML bottle of cold Saki. We ordered the HUGE Sashimi Boat, $50 size every thing was the best, freshest melt in your mouth best. Now we are visiting from Monterey Ca. And the Sushi places at home are great, so we saw the raves on YELP, and the raves are warranted, Ginza Sushi is Sushi Heaven in Tucson.

This place is definitely a little more expensive and fancy than most of the sushi places I've gone to in Tucson. I'd probably compare it to the new sushi garden in that sense. It was pretty busy on the Friday night that we went in with no reservation which was apparently a mistake because most of the tables and spaces at the sushi bar had reserved signs on them. Our party of three opted to take the only three unreserved spots at the sushi bar rather than wait for a table. The sushi was fresh and had a good rice to fish ratio. My fiance really loved the heart attack which was basically a jalapeno turned into sushi and my dad said the Yakisoba was good. I don't think I would ever go out of my way to come back here because it wasn't any better than other places I've been that are cheaper and more centrally located but I would recommend for a more upscale sushi date night!

There is not much to say about this place except that it is probably one of the best sushi places in Tucson. Hands down! We moved out of the area and still make the 15-20 minute ride to Ginza to get some good sushi!

Talk to the old man, ask for an Omakase and you are in for a delicious treat! Just trust me. Incredibly fresh and wonderful flavors that are a welcome amongst the usually bland sushi in Tucson.

Service was okay, not particularly attentive and not especially helpful. Too many rolls with cream cheese in them, so that limits the selection if you don't like cream cheese in your sushi. Rolls were not cut well, so they would fall apart when we picked them up or tried to separate the pieces, and they were a little heavy on the sauces as well. Sashimi was good quality and tasted nice and fresh.

I finally make the trek all the way east to try this place, and I'm glad I did. Being both a native of Japan and a staunch food snob, I can say with conviction that this is the best Japanese food in Tucson. -You know it's a good sign when the kitchen is bigger than the dining area. It means they have their priorities in order. -Sushi rice is the perfect texture. Very important. Many overlook this. -Bathrooms are nicely designed. How many restaurants can say the same?

Wow. Great atmosphere and the owner makes the sushi. You can tell he puts much love in his creations with a smile.

This is my second favorite sushi place in Tucson. They have a great selection of plum wines and carry my favorite the Choyo, a less sweet plum wine that you rarely see on menus. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. I'd recommend any of the Ginza special rolls. I've had the Ventana, Ceviche and the Merino rolls and all were quite good. Another tip if you are gluten free they do carry a gluten free soy sauce so you can enjoy as well!

I purchased some take-out at Ginza, over a year ago...I was on a "stacation", up at Lowe's. After a hike at the Saguaro park, I stumbled across this hidden gem! I purchased a lunch special that was absolutely fresh and yummy! I took it back to my room, and relished my sushi on the balcony staring at the mountain. I have wanted to get back to this restaurant again, as it has a lovely atmosphere, and great food! The menu looked wonderful!

For Tucson sushi, this hits the spot! They have this combo plate that allows you to try a nice variety of sushi rolls, teriyaki, and tempura, including miso and salad. The setting is nice and modern. It's a little out of the way up in the foothills, but I think it's worth it.

Very very overpriced. Their fish is fresh, but not worth paying $100 for our dinner bill. Serving portion is very small, little rice and tiny fish slice. Presentation needs improvement as well. Overall, I would not go back. I can get better sushi (quality, presentation and price) at Yoshimatsu. I just dont know why people overrated this place......mystery.

Three strikes and you are out. Six of us went for dinner and sadly two couples had a problem but I will only relate my ongoing recent concern on the cut and quality of the sashimi we have been receiving. Several poorly cut pieces of fish were hidden at the bottom of the different varieties in our $50 boat. One piece when held up must have been at least three inches long and held together with sinew. It looked like it had been hacked off with a dull knife. Since we have been told the owner is also the sushi chef, it appears he could care less what customers think. Sadly Ginza had been one of our favorite Japanese restaurants.

Ginza Sushi is a small place located in Ventana Plaza off of Kolb road. I went there on a Tuesday for a weekday date night with my husband. There was a decent amount of people there for a Tuesday night. The menu at Ginza is larger than I expected. They have beer, wine, sake, and other cocktails. In addition to the standard rolls and sushi options, Ginza offers specialty rolls and various tapas style plates for sharing. My husband and I split three rolls and the tuna tataki. Everything was delicious! I can be pretty picky about my sushi - especially tuna - and I was pleased with the quality of our fish. I will definitely go back!

The search for excellent sushi in the desert can be a difficult one, Ginza is among the few that delivers. Personally, I'm a Nigiri and Sashimi lover, and that alone determines if I'll return to a place. Even if the rolls are out of this world crazy delicious, it's all about the freshness of the fish in my book. While Ginza is known for rolls such as "The heart attack" and the 911, I am happy to report that the Nigiri was just as good. I've come to terms with the fact that even good sushi bars are Americanized in the way they cut their fish and serve large portions, but luckily I didn't have to fight with over sized fish. It wasnt quite bite sized as it should be,but it was manageable and most importantly, fresh. Fresh sushi melts like butter and my orders of Sake (salmon)'Nigiri , Toro (Tuna belly), Salmon toro, Black Snapper and hamachi didnt disappoint. We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with Chef Tanaka. I prefer ordering as I go and I loved that he honored that and didn't make me fill out the white order forms. We drank Asahi and sipped on Sake. We also had Hamachi sashimi with yuzu sauce that was excellent. The service was super friendly and attentive. Ginza is definitely on the pricey side, but it's at least sparked my interest in eating sushi in Tucson again.

I love their sashim and suchi boati! Their food is very fresh and quite diversified. My friend is also very happy with the salmon toro they have.

Ginza has won me over as my favorite Japanese restaurant in Tucson. It is on the pricey side..but all sushi is pricey here. I ordered the combination dinner plate which comes with rice, miso soup, salad and your choice of three main courses. I had the sashimi (variety of very fresh hamachi, salmon, and some other fish i didn't know), tempura, and teriyaki chicken. The meal size was perfect for me so I was vey happy with the variety..but it might not be enough..for well, a male appetite. We also ordered the spicy ahi handrolls, which btw is made of AHI CHUNKS..woohoo! I found it! (I've been on a quest for this in Tucson for some time now).

This spot is a little bit out of the way for me, but it's worth the drive everytime. Fresh sushi, creative rolls and dishes and a simple atmosphere. If you are lookinging for a Posh sushi bar, this isn't it, but after living in Japan for 6 years, I have found that Ginza satisfies my sushi craving more than the other places that I drive by on the way. The Civiche Roll is amazing. A must try!

FAST Review 4 out of 5 * Food 4/5 - Ceviche Roll- first bite hits you with a bit of sharp spiciness, but it mellows after that surprisingly. Loved the taste of the fresh cut onions on the roll. Oyster Shooters - they have an adorable little quail egg yolk. Tried the Rainbow roll which was pretty good, along with some tempura and nigiri yellowtail. Didn't try much from the izakaya menu. Saving that for next time. Ambiance 4/5 - Hidden away in a strip mall on the NE side of town, there is plenty of parking. The lighting is mellow, and a sushi bar greets you as soon as you walk in. It is kind of situated in the middle of the restaurant. Service 5/5 - Service was friendly...though once it got busy I wish it was easier to get a water refill. Total Impression 4/5 - For our first time visit, it was a good experience. I would come back, although the drive unfortunately is a ways for us.

Owners are a great couple. If you go there, try the miso marinated sea bass. Ask the owner/chef for new items.

i don't know of any other good izakaya's in tucson or even Arizona for that matter. Nobuo Teeter House up in Phx is SUPPOSED to be good. SUPPOSED TO BE. if i'm going for Japanese in Tucson and it's not Sushi on Oracle, its here at Ginza. Be prepared to throw down some dinero, but its way worth it. Oyster shooters are my favorite. But recently had a taste of the uni shooter. Gonna have to try that one full up next time for sure. And how many places do you know have Sapporo on tap?!!??

A bit pricey but to be expected on this side of town. The food is very good and the people who work there are always friendly. I do wish they had better specials and happy hour deals.

Fish was great but the sushi rice needs significant improvement. The sushi rice is half the nigiri and is a part of the whole experience. To have gummy rice with good fish is just a shame.

Nice place, pricey but nice. Food is good. We did not try any meat or noodles as we specially came for sushi and rolls. Be ready to pay 10 bucks for two pieces of sushi, but it is worth it: fresh fish and perfect rice. I really liked blue fin and fresh salmon sushi. The rolls were average, especially eel, it was kind of dry. Do not take fried ice cream: it is supposed to be crunchy, hot outside and cold inside, theirs was just a cold ball of sponge cake dough with the green tea ice cream inside. If you want to indulge yourself with nice fresh fish try their wide choice of sushi, want to stay within budget - take their rolls. We spent $100 for two of us( two glasses of vine, two types of rolls, five types of sushi( two pieces only, remember), two desserts) never regretted.

Ginza is an upscale district in Tokyo. While this Ginzaa doesn't quite reach that target by sitting in a strip mall and outfitted in sleek, modern furniture that is almost sterile in appearance it does do a good job.... especially when you conside they are serving raw fish in the desert. The sushi is fresh and a few things were innovative, like the oyster, schrimp, eel etc.. shooters. But overall the atmosphere and the food come across flat, sterile and like it came from a kit. Hmmm.. what would make it upscale like Ginza in Tokyo? How about fancy or unique ways to serve, more interesting innovative dishes and traditionally dressed staff? All in all it's a good sushi bar it could just use some more thought in the style department and some innovation on the menu.

After living on the coast for many years and regularly eating sushi, it is not easy to find a sushi place inland - where obviously the seafood needs to be flown in - where the sushi is fresh, clean and the chef takes risks in a good way. I have had sushi in many places in Tucson, it has been good, but this is the place. In a more unique setting, Jun takes chances with cuts other places do not serve, prepared and presented differently. Many of his servings do not require wasabi/soy or any additional seasoning beyond what he presents.

Used a restaurant.com coupon and saved a lot on a really good meal. Sit at the bar and the chef will talk about everything he's making and help guide your choices. We will definitely become regulars here! Update: Since that first visit I've become a frequent customer, and the experience keeps getting better. Service is terrific and the dishes never disappoint. Try something you wouldn't ordinarily consider and be surprised. It will be always be special. And speaking of specials, the board with the daily fish specials is a great place to start! This place is a real gem.

We had just a little a la carte sushi. My wife had the cucumber rolls which she said were great. I had tuna, salmon, and yellowtail sushi. I thought it was really good though it didn't quite have that pop the best sushi has. Beers nice and cold. Service good, atmosphere good--not fancy, but nice and a pleasant place to be. We went there bc El Charro was mobbed and had a half hour wait, and this was a pleasant contrast.

Go. Best fish I've had in Tucson. Lights are too bright inside and out so they get one star off of five for the atmosphere. The sashimi and rolls we tried were what won me, but I did not like two things- so skip the gyoza and the fried chicken karaage. The iced green tea is perfect and if you can't decide which cold sake to get, the Kikusui was delish.

My new favorite sushi restaurant in tucson. Service is good but the sushi is great. traditional japanese sushi as well as more americanized sushi. Chef june-san is awesome and always great to talk with.

The sashimi was of the highest quality and the cooked food was traditional and delicious. One of the few places that offer tuna belly and wild salmon. Now that I've been there, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Jun-san used to work at Sachiko (Valencia) and was my favorite chef there. It's a great opportunity for him to have his own place now. I would go more often if I was closer to this location. He has a wide variety of items on the menu and all of them are really fresh and well prepared. He has both a taste of the traditional and the more Americanized sushi options. He has a tendency to have slightly larger portions than I personally desire, but a lot of people seem to really like that also. While Jun-san is not a classically trained sushi chef, he does have some experience in the business from working in Nagano for a few years and I am always impressed with his skill and preparation techniques. I always enjoy my meals here. Good saba and ankimo!

I have been eating sushi all over the world for thirty years. I have never enjoyed a more pleasurable experience than I have tastewise here Ginza sushi. Salmon that melts in your mouth. Yellowtail that is absolutely delicious. Pieces are large and prices are reasonable. I bow to the sushi chef. Extraordinary!!!

Hands down the best sushi in town, and I've eaten it everywhere. The only thing is seriously lacks is atmosphere. I like to people watch while I'm out, and this place always seems slow. I guess they get some resort traffic, but not enough townies to keep it interesting. But yeah, the important thing is the sushi. Brilliant chefs with great skills making delicious food.

I really enjoy this sushi restaurant. The fish tastes fresh, they have fun specials to try, it's not overly pricey (it's what you would expect from a sushi restaurant), and they offer plenty of non-sushi fare for those who don't want to indulge in raw fish. I've been twice, and it was definitely much busier the second time - which resulted in slow service - but all in all the food was good and you could tell they were just understaffed for the evening. As far as raw fish in the desert goes, Ginza does an excellent job!

I feel like I can't give any sushi restaurant in Tucson 5 stars so I will give this one four. Highest quality fish you will find in Tucson and they also import fish you won't find at any other place here. They do have toro for all the other toro lovers. The dining room is small and nice, it is also in a very nice shopping center next to Gavi.
