Nailbanger Here Again: This is the setting, Friday Evening Dinner Hour, We walk in and there is not a Soul in the place seated for a meal.I finally found someone back in the Bar area, and he said he would be right there, and he did exactly that.He was an extremely friendly Server, and did an excellent job waiting on us,thus the 3 Stars. This place has mixed reviews ,but they a scattered mostly to old to count on.Now about the Food,we had a cheese crisp with green chili for the appetizer, along with the Chips and Salsa that was complimentary, that was very good.We both had the shredded beef,I had the Chimichanga enchilada style with Guacamole Rice/ Refried Beans. My wife had the Tacos and a Chili Relleno. The Shredded Beef was good, however the tacos shells were not cooked and fell apart. The rice and beans were not very good at all. The Chili Relleno was average at best. Now about the Decor,Very Very Dated and old,and the Bathrooms need a complete over haul ASAP. They offer a daily breakfast and lunch Buffet, that I can not comment on , but I probably suppose is their their main stay for business. Two other couples came in while we were there.I don`t know if we will be back, there are a lot of choices in Tucson. They have plenty of well lite parking. They have been in Business since 1982, and are generally open from 8AM -10 PM. They have a full Bar. Its your call ?

Saturday afternoon lunch buffet was amazing! It was like eating a home cooked meal. Truly authentic Mexican food. The place was nearly deserted, which made it all the more relaxing. Well worth $8 a person. Planning to try the breakfast buffet next!

Chile rellenos in the Tucson Area rated according to the Homeland Security Advisory System with three word descriptors. El Dorado: not really memorable. Blue See photos.

I just completed a review of this restaurant, but it is under "El Dorado Tortilla Factory." In a nutshell, this place is the real deal: truly authentic truck stop Mexican food, you know, the kind that locals in central Mexico may prefer and probably snowbirds from Chicago would not. You can happily avoid the typical gringo/Mexican chimichangas, fajitas, burros, taco salads and hamburger tacos you find at most Tucson restaurants. Instead you can get machaca, pozole, menudo, huevos con nopalitos, picadillo, chilaquiles and other not-smothered-with-lettuce-and-kraft-cheese food. It may not be healthy, but for sure tastes good and is real Mexican food. Call it ethnic comfort food. Lunch buffet was very tasty with lots of choices, under $8 per humanoid including drinks. Compare that to a boring taco combo plate for over $10 and $2 more for an iced tea at most Tucson "Mexican" restaurants. Service was quite good. We were the only gringos eating there, and the servers (yes, several of them) stopped by to see if we were happy with our food.

The only reasons why this is not a one-star review is because of their prices and the cool JFK artwork in the main dining room. Nothing here stood out as even average. Service was extremely slow and short. It seemed like customers were bothersome to the employees. The beans were soggy and water-downed. The food had next-to-nothing flavor. One reviewer here is probably right in that it's probably microwaved. They use a clear and visible part of the restaurant as literally a storage closet. I don't know they do this, but they leave the bathroom doors open and you can have a view of the urinal and people doing their business in the men's bathroom. They don't know how to separate/split a check (see the photo for how they did it). You can see in my other reviews of the great options for Mexican food in South Tucson. Do not come to or expect authentic food at El Dorado. Avoid it.

There's nothing memorable about this restaurant. My chips were stale & the salsa was something like: clamato with black pepper. Anyways, as you can see from my picture, I ordered the cocido soup. My cocido was obviously microwaved. The broth was warm, all of the vegetables were cold, & the zucchini was very soggy. I wasn't able to finish it due to the fact that it was disgusting.

This isn't the place for Chile Relleno, big whoop. Try something else, like their chile con carne and you will experience true sonoran food. As a fifth generation Arizona with roots in Tucson's Mexican community, I have to say they have the best red chile con carne. The chile sauce is more than just any chile sauce. It has real flavor I haven't found at any other Mexican restaurant. South Tucson has some great Mexican food! If you get the ritas, try on the rocks. It's always a good sign you're at a good mexican restaurant when almost everybody you see there is Mexican. Also, no need to worry about language barriers like one of my friends was afraid of, the waiter I had, who apparently works there regularly can speak English with barely even a trace of a Mexican accent. Foood and atmosphere was impressive!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
