For my taste buds, the best Mexican that we've had in Tucson to date. For that matter, one of the best Mexican restaurants we've experienced. The place is a little rundown but so far everything we have had is authentic. It may be a little too real for folks who are not used to bold flavors from the real south of the border. Service is very friendly and warm.

Too bad I couldn't review the food...it is closed for dinner during the weekdays??? Closes at 5pm except on weekends and Fridays...after I drive across town.

Regular for their Red Menudo, I've had my menudo cravings almost everywhere in tucson from El Molinito to Little Mexico Restaurants. This place by far beyond other menudos. Homestyle fresh everytine menudo. Its a MUST for Menudo lovers like myself. Service cam vary but the food makes up for it. 5 stars :)

Actually, it's El Doradito. Homestyle Mexican food with reasonable prices. Very large seating area, with nice servers. The Hopi inspired mural on the wall inside makes this place a little out of the ordinary, decor-wise. I come here for their white menudo, which is served as it should be: piping hot with lots of cilantro, onion, lime, Tajin, and hot sauce on the side. The pan was soft, nicely toasted and so, so buttery. Great house red salsa here, their chorizo is pretty good, too. Tasty chicken enchiladas, caldo de queso (!) and other standard fare Mexican. I will judge a Mexican restaurant by the quality of their refried pinto beans -- El Doradito gets the extra 5th star for their awesome frijoles! yum yum yum.

If you are looking for good Mexican food while driving through Tucson, this is a great place to try. The restaurant feels like your are eating in your grandmother's dining room, very casual with décor that is very kitschy. The homemade tortillas are a must. We tried the cheese fondido, which was very different than I was expecting, very buttery with lots of salty cheese; tasted great on the flour tortillas. I was expecting it to be more like queso, it was very different. Thumbs down on the chips and salsa. The chips did not taste fresh and the salsa was very runny (just not what I am used to in CA). I had the potato tacos after reading some of the reviews, they were pretty good, different, not as heavy as a beef taco, something worth trying. I would order again and am going to try and make them at home. Basically it was a hard shell taco using chunky soft potatoes (not quite mashed) instead of beef. The toppings on the tacos were fresh lettuce and cheese. I added salsa and it gave it a nice kick.

Really good. Glad we stopped. We both had the chicken fajitas. Has a real homemade taste to it. Service was great. Our waiter was a Red Sox fan so just doesn't get better than that.

This was a fantastic place to grab some authentic Mexican food while visiting Tucson. I ordered an enchilada (chicken) and it was massive, filling the plate, and piping hot. The only downside, the sour cream served (thankfully in a separate container) was melted as if it had been sitting out for hours, unrefrigerated. The salsa was completely unique and painfully spicy. This is not a bad thing - AT ALL. There was a definite language barrier when asking the server questions about what peppers were in the salsa - but then again, it IS an authentic Mexican joint and what is the fun in trying new places if you don't question at least one thing on your plate? The place had plenty of seating available, but no frills. To me, this is perfect because its all about the food and service.

Ya know how your craving for something very specific one day, and then you walk into nearly the best place possible for said thing? Yeah well today it was Menudo. I was stoked to try this place as i have seen it for years and never had a lunch to eat at it, as it is far from work. Anyways i had a Chorizo plate and shared a menudo that was great. My portion was just the right size as i was able to eat it without becoming comatose. The chorizo was not all that greasy compared with other places which was a relief because nothing ruins a handmade burrito like watery chorizo. the menudo was good, but the pan bread with butter was not as toasty as we normally have it. Besides that you can order 1 gallon of menudo to go for like $10 bucks. what a deal. You can order to for pick up as well. Inside the booth seating is really comfortable and something that is absent from some mexican restaurants. The wall art is mostly Hopi and southwest inspired. But its also welcome to not see something as typical as an Aztec warrior holding a sleeping woman, for once. This was a great find and a place i am anxious to get back to. :)

You gotta order the Menudo Blanco, mix in some hot sauce and a large glass of Horchata...you'll go from Zero to GREATNESS in seconds!! Give it a shot, you won't regret it! :) Found this place by accident when leaving Tucson with a hangover this past weekend but it was one of the Greatest Foodie Discoveries since I've been here in Arizona. (I know, I know this is just the tip of the iceberg)

We popped into El Dorado for a Sunday pick-me-up, and while the standard Mexican dishes won't light you aflame with flavor, the bean burrito, homemade chips and (albeit watery) salsa accompanied a couple of cheap margaritas that set us aright. Everything was smothered in white, bland cheese, so be prepared for a belly bomb that will take you straight into siesta mode. The servers are always friendly here, and while the wait for food can be lengthy when it's packed, El Dorado is still one of the best deals going in this saturated area. Don't expect too much attention to detail at these prices.

Stumbled upon el doradito while passing through AZ from California on the road to Texas, and it was great! I had the beef fajita combo plate and my boyfriend had the #1 combo and we both enjoyed them. My flour tortillas were paper thin and tasty. We got chips and salsa also; the salsa was a little more watery than I was expecting but definitely wasn't lacking in heat or flavor. The homemade chips were definitely a plus! Super crunchy and delicious. Its close proximity to I-10 would bring me back if I am in the area again.

Not so much a tortilla factory anymore but an authentic home style Mexican restaurant. Don't be fooled by the exterior. Living nearby I'd always pass El Doradito (as its actually called) because I thought it looked crummy. Heck even the inside is odd. But get passed all that and take a look at the menu. They have everything from mariscos to chimicangas to menudo! I am partial to the caldo de queso seeing that I looooove anything with insane amounts of cheese. Its basically cheese and potato soup but its so good! A comfort food! The caldo de queso at Doradito is very much like the sopa my nana and my mom make. In my book, that means it's good! If you don't know what to order and are overwhelmed by your choices try to go to Doradito at lunch time. They have a great lunch buffet (for about $7) that includes a drink. You can sample some of the dishes on the menu like enchiladas, chicken mole, or a rotation of other dished and soups. The buffet changes daily. I do love eating at Doradito even though I feel my arteries clogging with goodness every time I leave it!

My grandma has been going to this restaurant every Sunday since before I can remember. I've gone twice as an adult and have absolutely loved it. The first time I went was with my grandma for breakfast. I ordered the chorizo con juevos and it was made perfectly. Their refried beans are delicious! The only issue I had with my first visit is that the servers, who all know my grandma, would only speak to her and only in Spanish. I was unsure whether or not I'd be able to communicate easily if I were ever to come back on my own. Well, I tried it anyway. A couple weeks later I went with a friend. It was much busier (Rodeo Parade) I ordered the same meal, in English, to a waitress who spoke it perfectly. Despite the overcrowding, the service was quick, the food quality was un-compromised, and both my friend and I really enjoyed ourselves. Our bill came out to $11. Apart from the visit, my grandma often brings food home on Sundays and all of it has been excellent. I can't remember exactly what she's brought home because she never remembers what she ordered, but I do know that my family won't get menudo from anywhere else. The tortillas are great, too! I fully intend to go back for the lunch buffet soon.

Back in Tucson and I brought the whole family here this time. They were so nice to my mom, who has special diet restrictions (no corn, no seeds, no beans, no rice... ) and patient with all of us. I have 2 kids and they were very accommodating and nice to them as well. Ok now the food: I had the potato tacos and again they were divine. My mom had shredded chicken enchiladas, special order, and they were perfect. My wife had huevos rancheros, and said they were great. Even my daughter had to have a second bean burrito they were so good. My son's hamburger actually didn't look that appetizing, but really I cannot fault them even a bit. The fries however, were amazing. These might be the best fries I've had in Tucson. I tell you these people can make great potatoes. The best fries i ever had were in London, I'm kind of a fry guy. The chips and salsa were also quite good at Doradito, pretty spicy which is how I like it. Original: I want to give 3.5 stars,, but can't figure out how. But it was good enough that I will round up! I had take out, the bean burrito, a potato taco, and chips+salsa. The chips were nice authentic tortillas, not the fairly obvious "from a bag" taste you get at a chain. Staff were very courteous and friendly. While waiting a could see the dining room and it looked fine, nice murals and setup for a 1-$ place. It's not la parrilla suiza , but I didn't want to pay that price for lunch either! Burrito was good, better enough over , say, Viva Burrito, to be worth the price difference. But what really was great was the potato taco. I will go back and get 3 of those, for sue. It was _awesome_!

I work across the street from El Doradito, and it's always captured my eye. Today while feeling particularly hungry for something new, I decided to Yelp the place. Cool, they have four stars AND a lunch buffet! My partner and I quickly decided to go have a fantastic lunch! Unfortunately, it was NOT fantastic. Everything was cold and bland. The service wasn't very friendly, though I think it may have been language barrier issues. While we were eating there, two of the four buffet items ran out. They were not refilled. The iceberg lettuce on the salad bar looked as if it had never been green. I've never seen my partner salt and pepper food at a restaurant as much as I did here. There were few saving graces to this experience. The only thing bumping them from one star to two was the tortillas. They were simply amazing, and some of the best that I've had. They were also the only thing I had that was hot. You can get better food at Los Betos, don't waste your time coming here, at least for their buffet. Their dinner service may be much better, but after this experience I'm not going to give it a try.

Man, if you're going to eat a dinner that hacks three years off of your life it should be a fine, memorable meal. El Doradito will definitely threaten your longevity, but it won't do anything for your tastebuds. The edifice looks promising, the mural of towering kachinas along the north wall bodes well, and the masa cookies at the front counter have smiley faces on them--but don't be taken in. The service is not smiling. It is not fast. It is not accurate. Every patron in the half-empty restaurant had to idle around the register for a few minutes before paying. The DMV has better service. The food wasn't flavorful or memorable--they may have a spice or two in their kitchen, but they clearly reserve them for special occasions. The albondigas soup was bland, the asada tacos were okay, and the tortilla soup was actually a gooey and insipid caldo de queso. Their menudo broth was a little too floral and lacked depth. Our cheese crisp came with a topping of extra grease in lieu of the chicken we asked for, but the underlying tortilla was undeniably good. In fact, all the starches were good. The tortillas and rolls accompanying the soups were excellent and even the chips were above average. Their salsa had some fight, too, which was unexpected and welcome. El Doradito is only worth a visit if you're looking for high quality tortillas. As far as their food is concerned, you could dine almost anywhere else in South Tucson and do better.

Third dinner at ElDorado. If your idea of Mexican food is Chili's or Taco Tote, or even La Parilla Suiza, you won't like this absolutely authentic Mexican restaurant. No piles of lettuce covered with Kraft cheese all over everything here. We ate the lunch buffet and again, this is the real deal. Not everything was excellent, but most items were very very good. Cheese enchiladas: just like mom Rosa would make at home. Pozole: mighty good Refrijoles: the real deal and very tasty Chicken: pretty good! Fish: typical buffet fish, so-so Carne tacos: just like you get in a Mexican truck stop. Great with shredded beef Tortillas: as good as they get and homemade Menudo: didn't try Salad bar: quite nice! Service: just fine We never have been disappointed at this very nice real Mexican restaurant. Their menu is right out of central Mexico with standard items you will not find in most so-called Tucson Mexican restaurants: machaca, nopolitos con huevos, just to mention a couple.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
