Since my beloved Wheel Donut closed (owners moved to Texas), after coming out of shock, I realized that I needed to get some donuts for a high school chamber choir I was teaching. Thank you, Yelp, you led me to Donut King. Not to be confused with the other highness, Queen Donut. I have found that King Donut is a worthy replacement for Wheel Donut. Their donuts are light. fluffy, not greasy, and not too sugary. Just like Wheel Donut's were and like Queen's Donuts. One review complained about them not having any more donuts left in the afternoon of National Donut Day and implying that they were ill-prepared. I'm thinking that this place is probably pretty popular and had a run on their donuts that day. I'd say that's a good sign.

This place is the King of Donuts!!! I have been passing by this place and it looks like it may be closed, so don't let that discourage you from visiting. I'm glad I did! I don't usually like doughnuts because the major chain stores pile on the sugar and completely overwhelm the bread but the Donut King does the exact opposite! Their glazed doughnuts are perfectly balanced with fried bread and sugar. I tried the recommended glazed choco doughnut and it was excellent. A perfect balance of cocoa and sugar that mixed well with each bite into the fried bread. Their apple crisps are good as well and now this place has become my go to spot, Friday mornings on my way to grab coffee! Local, great service, awesome selection of doughnuts, I'll see you on Friday's DK!!

Went for National Donut Day...they had no donuts. Just some apple fritters. Mind you this place was completely empty and nowhere near closing time. Instead of telling me when a fresh batch would be ready, the guy just told me "thats all we have" then had the nerve to still try and convince me not to go to another shop by saying "its gonna be like this everywhere in town due to National Donut Day". Needless to say I went somewhere else that was more prepared and got donuts for my coworkers. I'm sure the donuts are good here but their service left much to be desired.

Don't be fooled by the location, these donuts are Devine! A wide variety of flavors, but my personal favorite is the plain glazed donut. The earlier you stop in, the more choices you will have flavor wise. These donuts are really fit for a king!

'Tis because of the glorious Donut King that I will have to amend my donut rating scale. As of this weekend, his donuts alone merit the title 'as good as it gets' for me. My encounter went something like this... (in the car taking a bite out of each donut) ME: Mm. ME: Ohmigod. ME: Wow. (turning to my partner in crime for a second opinion) HIM: Mm. ME: These are some damn good donuts. HIM: Mm-hmm. What was in the bag, you ask? Not much of a variety since they were down to only a couple batches by ten in the morn, but there was an assortment of iced/sprilled cake donuts - hazelnut, chocolate, vanilla, yum, yum, yum. There was also a cinnamon crumb yeast donut and a cinnamon crumb cake donut, both of which were cinnamon sugar glory. The donuts were fresh, moist, cushy, and everything good. I could not help licking my lips with each bite... and licking the inside of my mouth for remnants of icing or dough. I bow down to you Donut King, for I am incredibly fond of your Os. *This review is based solely on the donuts and nothing else, although the young guys who work there are super friendly. *Take cash if you're going to spend less than 5 dollas.

The boyfriend and I usually frequent Donut Queen during our trips to Tucson but last Saturday as we joyfully drove to get some donut goodness we arrived at Donut Queen only to realize it was closed for the afternoon. But our salivating mouths would only be disappointed for a few minutes as we headed over to Donut King only a few miles away. Even though it was 2:00pm they still had a pretty wide variety of donuts to choose from. Nothing fancy or tricky about these donuts - your standard sugary fare - raised glazed, jelly filled, old-fashioned and cake donuts are available for your pleasure. The location is nothing fancy either. There are some booths there so you could sit and enjoy your donuts on the spot but it's really more of a take 'em home kinda joint. I chose a glazed twist and a chocolate cake. The boyfriend went for the filled, a creme filled and a jelly. He thought they weren't quite as good as Donut Queen but I was happy with my twist. It was nice and soft with just the right amount of glaze. I ended up eating my cake donut the next morning and even though it was day-old it was still good. For good 'ol bakery donut fun you can't go wrong with the king and queen.

I've driven by this place soo many times, but never found the time to actually stop, and it always looks closed to me... But don't be fooled, they are open early in the morning to the mid afternoon, so if you need that donut fix, they're here for you! It is nothing fancy, the place is actually way too big for their operations, but man their donuts look AMAZING! donut holes for 10 cents each! and their donuts are fairly priced too. I got an apple cinnamon donut and 2 donut holes for $1.10. Bring cash though because I had to pay the 50 cent card charge as my order was under $5... so $1.60 for my purchases but way worth it!! So crispy, fluffy, and sweet, perfect with a glass of milk.
