Being we had a 20% off coupon and the lore of trying another Mexican Restaurant brought us to try Cinco de Mayo on Ft. Lowell. Across the street from Copenhagen furniture. Years ago when doing our South Tucson Mexican treks seeking what we believed would be the best of Mexican Restaurants in the barrio areas of S. Tucson. At that time, we went to their sister Restaurant Guillermo's. Keeping it in mind it was many years ago. I believed it might have been fairly good at that time. So off we went Saturday night about 5.00 PM. It is a huge place very nicely decorated with Mexican themes all over the place. We sat alone in the dining room until 6.00 PM. I was really surprised for a Saturday night. hardly a sole in this large place. Our delightful waiter Diego was extremely warm and friendly. They do have a good happy hour for libations at 99 cents for a 12 ounce tap beer and other specials. The menu is loaded with sea food specials which were a bit pricey so I can't really give it a review But the menu had a full page dedicated to sea food. .I ordered a special for $7.95 with 3 enchiladas (chicken, and 2 cheese) with green sauce. Naturally coming with rice and beans. All of which were unremarkable. The chicken enchilada had thick pieces of chicken with no taste at all. It was smothered in the green sauce but didn't make up for the lack of flavor in the chicken. My other half ordered a shredded beef enchilada with a chile relleno. Diego said they prepared this dish a little different from other restaurants. Pan fried outer coating with a mashed potato layer inside. Hubby liked it, but I did not like it. There was a table nearby and it seemed these folks were fans of Guillermo's and knew all the staff. They were praising their dishes.Mmmm!!! I wished I could have said the same. I'm thinking maybe the sea food would be a more admirable choice. It's probably a great place for office parties with the wonderful Mexican atmosphere and large dining room.

Excellent food, friendly staff, large portions and reasonable prices make Cinco de Mayo an excellent choice. The fajitas are especially good, but you'll have to ask for a box to take the half you don't eat with you. Be sure to ask for the back story on Vicente Fernández and the other charros featured on the walls.

It was my first time here using a restaurant.com and am I glad we stopped by. I think I drove by this place like 100 times, but never stopped in. The food was so good and our Server, Gloria, well the only server tonight, was so great. She was attentive, funny, quick and just the type of server we want. We will definitely be back. Stop by and give them a try. BTW, check in on Yelp, get a 15% off.

This is a hidden gem. I have stopped in several times and I have never been disappointed. The food is great and everyone I introduced to Cinco De Mayo agrees and wonders WHY they did not know about this prize.

I have an update for this place more than 2.5 years after my initial review. This place still has the welcome signs on it that existed since when they happened. I think it's about time to take them down. The wait for the food can be a little long, even when there is no rush. Prices are very good and are slightly cheaper than some of the other full-service Mexican restaurants in the area. The artwork is really cool to look at while you wait for the food. It can be slightly overwhelming with all the plants inside and the dried-up water fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Service is still slightly awkward as you can easily lose your server. Other than that, everyone is very friendly and care about their customers. The food is still as delicious as it was when I wrote my review back in the summer of 2012. They give very generous portions, especially on their tacos. Their beans are war and fresh. Chips and salsa were also tasty. They have decent happy hour deals for those wanting a drink during that time. Good place for good food. Cinco De Mayo year-around!

Second visit here and I'm not disappointed. You're greeted with friendly smiles and Spanish music. Quaintly decorated. House margaritas are decent and $2.50 during happy hour. Chips arrive warm and the mild salsa is delicious -- skip the chips, I could eat it using a spoon. My husband had the carne asada special with rice and beans. The grilled steak is really good! I had fish tacos. Again, delicious. The food always arrives hot. Good food, reasonable prices. You won't be disappointed.

Here we go again, or should I say grow (my ass) again! I love, love LOVE, this place. Every time the food is good, the service is awesome! It is the reason I keep going out to other places! I, me, myself and i, live CDM. They are always accommodating to me and I love the food!

Meh nothing special here. I haven't been to Guillermos so can't compare it but this place is just ok. We live by here so we decided to check it out and just weren't impressed. The food was basic with nothing outstanding about it. I ordered the fried shrimp and it was served with soggy fries. Decor is still leftover from DaVinci's with some Mexican colors and papel picado thrown in. We were the only table in the restaurant the entire time we were there which we later understood. With so many Mexican restaurants in this town I am amazed they are still in business.

It's ok... And that is me being nice. Went on a Saturday night at 7 only because the wait at Guadalajara grill was 40 mins. Totally different story here though, we were literally the only patrons! Salsa was AWFUL, I actually think it was enchilada sauce. The cheese quest dillards was OK but the tortilla was too salty. I wish I would ha E just waited it out for Guadalajara!

Being a fan of Guillermo's in South Tucson, we headed on over to the newly opened Cinco de Mayo for lunch. This is a "sister" restaurant that offers the same great menu and food. It's quite a bit larger than Guillermo's so it makes a perfect place to hold a big party or family gathering. Reminds me of El Parador in that regard. We were pleasantly surprised to see our favorite server at Guillermo's working and helping to break in the new staff at Cinco de Mayo on our first visit. If you love good Mexican food and friendly service, stop in and check this new restaurant out.

We came here on a hot day while our car was being worked on just to sit in some ac and get some food. When we walked in the beautiful decor took us in. It was like we were in Mexico on cinco de mayo! We were seated quickly and soon after we're given water and chips and salsa. The CHIPS! So good! So FRESH! Our server was super nice and helpful, as we had a lot of questions about the menu. Our food came quickly after ordering, and it was DELICIOUS. Also, as it was a hot day, we were drinking lots of water and our cups were never empty. Can't say enough about of service and this restaurant. Definitely a place to check out. By the way, huge portions for very cheap!

I'm already turned off and have never been there. I am in Phoenix, have a restaurant.com gift certificate, and am headed there on the weekend of the 19th of September. I called to make sure they are open. Someone answered the phone, but not Cinco De Mayo--sounded like a personal phone. She said they won't be open until probably the first of October. How can anyone run a business like that? Better to put a message on a machine with a closed for summer, opening ...date.

This place is finally open! It is weird how they close for the summer. Tried their food for lunch since it is close to my work. Good lunch deals and quick service. Salsa is ok, but the food makes up for it.

I don't know and cant really review this restaurant but I do know I had purchased a Restaurant.com certificate and went to utilize it this past weekend and they had a sign on their door that they are closed until fall. No specific date. So I see they are offering another discount deal however THEY ARE NOT OPEN!!!! I don't know how a business can offer deals when they cannot honor them at this time. Wish I would have had a change to try them. Poor way to advertise!

Food was extrodinary I had shrimp tacos and one grilled fish taco I love that they were not stingy with the amount of good they serve on your plate. The best part was they avacado n it was delicious. The service was good n helpful. It is a bit older resturant not as modern as new resturant downtown but if you are going for good Mexican food then I would recommend trying this resturant. I also had a michelada and it tastes great just the right amount of lemon and tajin and clamto juice.

restaurant accommodates larger parties. I went to try this restaurant because when you check in on yelp there is a 15% discount. The food portions are very large so a to go box is necessary unless you have a large appetite. When I presented the yelp discount she went to retrieve a manager to give the discount to us. After the manager ran my card she placed the card and paper to sign on the counter and left right away. When I looked at the receipt no discount was applied. I would have given 3 stars since customer service makes a huge difference.

Cinco de Mayo is a few blocks from my neighborhood so decided to try it on Monday night. I was worried when I pulled into the parking lot and we were the only customers. I can't imagine why this place isn't jam packed every night!! The food is great the service friendly and helpful. My daughter and I couldn't finish our food and were happy to take it home to make another meal with all the leftovers. I plan to become a regular customer.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
