This is my second review of the Casa Molina family restaurants. Number three will come in the next couple of days. This Casa Molina is located on the westside of Campbell Ave between Ft. Lowell and Glenn. The part that you turn will come up rather suddenly, so be sure to be cautious if you don't know exactly where it is. The ambiance reminds me of the the Casa Molina on Grant. The service was better than the Grant location. It was just at the end that our server went on a lunch break without telling anyone so we had to track someone down to pay for the food. Other than that, the service was nice and friendly. I am in love with their cheese enchiladas. The cheese is so gooey and delicious! If you do not like lard, be sure to either ask that the refried beans be cooked in oil or request whole beans. The rice is flavorful and the tacos are solid. The salsa they bring out is more of a hot salsa, so if you need more of a medium or mild be sure to request it. Like the other restaurants, you will find very good deals on their lunch menu. This and the Grant location has their lunch specials run until 4:00.

We've been coming here since I was a kid. The staff has watched me and now my kids grow up. They're personable and so nice. They're also very prompt with service. Yoli and frank are the absolute best! The food is amazing! I absolutely love their shredded beef burro and cheese crisp. I feel they have true authentic Mexican food.

I came here a while ago with a group of three people and I have to say, the food at this location has to be the best. The service was very friendly, and the restaurant had to be the cleanest restaurant I've been in. There was such a rich history in these walls, as well as a culture that could not be copied. The portions were a great size, especially for the price. I loved it here.

I've eaten at other Casa Molinas around town and have been a bit disappointed. I've not been inspired to return in quite some time but thought I'd give this one on Campbell. I love the decor and those shiny brown floor tiles. It's eye candy inside. Our server was very nice and very attentive. The buffet food was ok. It would be helpful to mark what it is you are eating for those trying to avoid meat. My cheese enchiladas were pretty tasty. I would probably return here but it won't draw me there like my other favorite places.

I came here on a Sunday night with two of my friends. I will say that the preparation of the food was done in about average timing, not to slow but not fast either. Chips and salsa were definitely a miss, if I were rating on just the chips and dip it would be a solid one star. Prices were definitely on the piggy bank breaker side, it costs me about 22$ after tax for one chimichanga with a side of rice and sour cream and a RC Cola (their Dr Pepper machine was broken). The sour cream was 4$ extra, which I found to be excessive because for that price you can buy a tub of sour cream (will be sneaking in my own tub next time) and the sour cream had a thick texture almost like Greek yogurt, and they amount they gave me for 4$ was not what I anticipated. Having said that, the chimi was the size of my arm! And it was cooked to greasy perfection, the chicken (which only comes shredded) was tender and flavorful! The waitress took forever to bring us our bill at the end of the meal but she was kind and kept our drinks filled! Would definitely go back but probably only during the lunch time specials.

RUDE, HORRIBLE... NEVER AGAIN!!! I stopped in for a fast meal this Sunday morning before my meeting and was looked up and down by the manager at the Campbell site, who did not even greet me. Then the host talked crap about me in Spanish (did not think I spoke it) to the manger lady "is here to inhale buffet and with a diet coke" he said loud enough for me and the table next to me to hear. I have hypertension! Then, I just wanted to get out and asked for the check. The waitress ran into the manager lady again and she asked who the check was for, the waitress responded, "the fat guy in red" in Spanish. I have never been so humiliated. I will never again bring my out if town guests or US friends to eat here!!! NEVER AGAIN!!

This restaurant was great! Server was quick and friendly, food was delicious and atmosphere was nice. Will definitely eat here again.

I came here one afternoon to try the lunch buffet. Although the service was good and the dining area had a lot of Old Pueblo charm, I was not overly impressed by the food. Everything on the buffet except for the albondigas was either wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep-fried or covered in cheese; there was not a single vegetable dish. The food was okay, but I certainly didn't get a balanced meal. I left feeling more tired than I did before my meal.

The decor is flawless. Saltillo floors, talavera etceteras, lovely murals, tasteful lighting, all of it - furnishings, musica, the saguaro latillas - great for the ambience. And the waiters - perfecto! But the food... is those same old same old Mexico Gringo standards. The burros, the nachos, the quesadillas, the topopo salads, a few ( at least there are a few!) tamales. Better than what you get in the Midwest or on the east coast no question. But they use CHEDDAR cheese! Yikes! Where's the cotija? The queso fresco? Guys, hijos, por favor! Give me the real thing!! If you do that, I'll give you cinco estrellitas!

Casa Molina is a Tucson staple. If you, like my husband, enjoy vast quantities of greasy standard Mexican food, Casa Molina is for you. Their food is awesomely average. The service for lunch is fast and friendly, you can be in and out in 30 minutes. This is especially true if you take advantage of their lunch buffet. I ordered the two beef tacos lunch special for under $7, and my husband ordered the chicken chimi with "the works." The salsa here needs some work. It lacks any flavor other than spicy, and looks more like tomato water with floating red chunks than sauce. Luckily the tortilla chips were stale enough that I was not tempted to eat more than one tomato water drenched chip. The ground beef tacos were bland and soaked in grease. Unfortunately the fatty meat used at Casa Molina's drenched the bottom of the shells, which were useless before I could consume one bite. The rice is nothing to write home about, BUT THE BEANS, they are lardy perfection. My side of beans were perfectly creamy with a somewhat chunky texture. Next time my husband asks me to go, I'll opt for a bean burrito. My husband's chimi was made on the world's largest tortilla. The chicken is shredded. He enjoyed it. The prices are great for lunch, but the only reason this place received 3 stars was their service and beans.

Wow, just like the other reviewer said! I'm a foodie and travel for a living stateside and overseas, this was one of the best! Ingredients were all fresh, they didn't skimp, actually had red bell peppers in the fajitas and they weren't overcooked like many places. You could tell the veggies/accompaniments were fresh. I had beef fajitas and husband had carne asada tacos, he said his were same review, fresh etc.

Food deserves four stars, however their service is freaking laughable. Me and the wife like to go on Sundays for their buffet, which is really good and has a variety of tasty options. You'd think how can you screw up a buffet? Well these clowns would. Twice have they forgotten to get our drinks and even our ticket. We had to ask for it and our server looked at us like we were speaking Japanese. When we went to pay for our meal, we told the manager what happened and she just laughed and charged us the regular price. Definitely won't be back because of their incompetent service.

I have no qualms about the food here. Nor the service. However, nothing ever makes me shriek "Casa Molina!". Except I am an easy sell on buffets, and there have been a number of times, after playing racquetball, that I pull in to take advantage of the weekend buffet. Not a huge offering: menudo (white), byo tacos & tostadas, beans, rice, enchiladas, calabacitas, and a few miscellaneous items. Nothing fancy, but all tasty, warm and comforting. Buffet plus iced tea, out the door (stuffed) for about $13.

I've been coming to casa Molina since 1986 and it's always been great . I especially like the carne seca chimichanga . I usually order the enchilada sauce on the side instead of on top so the chimi stays crisp , I would consider myself an expert in Mexican since I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico as well as the US southwest . I consider their food excellent and the service is always good , I have a vacation rental business in Tucson and I always recommend casa Molina to my guests ,

We had lunch at Casa Molina a week ago. It was a welcomed meal of "real" mexican food that I just can't find in WA. We started out with the requisite chips and salsa. The salsa was good but the chips were just fine. I love light and crispy chips. These were too heavy. For the main course, I pigged out with the tampiquena. The stars of the show were the flour tortillas. They were hot and had a perfect texture. You just can't find totillas like this most places. I dream of these tortillas. The tampiquenal plate came with a cheese quesadilla. The only thing better than their tortillas are their tortillas filled with melted chesse and fried to perfect buttery crispy goodness. The steak that was part of the tampequina was tender and flavorful. It was served with roasted chiles. I rolled the meat into their tortillas and reveled in the flavorful goodness. Not sure how this meal could be much better.

We've been going here for years. Love their weekend brunch. Their tortillas are really good, they seem to be freshly made. It's much nicer when there aren't a ton of people there, because the make your own taco area can get messy fast. Their food had always been fresh, hot and consistently good in all the times we've been here. Very nice people working here too, we are fans.

Just about the worst Mexican food to be found in Tucson. Guacamole was watery and with no flavor. All four of us left unhappy.

Service and price comparable to similar restaurants. Had a screaming kid for the first few minutes though. The flautas were extremely crunchy. I kinda expected them to be a little soft.

My favorite all time Mexican restaurant! I have been in Tucson for over 10 years and have gone to other establishments but always find myself returning to Casa Molina. Why? They only have the best Chimis ( chicken is my favorite), amazing green corn tamalies, and oh yes, I can't forget the splendor that is their Margaritas!! Casa Molina is the BEST!!

Big fan of Casa Molina. Traditional cheese crisps with chile rellenos are great as are the chimmies. Always enjoy.

Bring on the party! I recently went to Casa Molina for a graduation party and I have to say I was pretty impressed with their buffet menu. It was delicious and the staff were oober attentive and friendly! Our beer mugs never went empty either. The space was also perfect for our large group of about 30 people. I will definitely be going back for a lil a la carte latin lovin' for my tummy soon.

We have come back a few times since this review. Every time, Rafael hadn't been there. So finally, a couple nights ago, we went in for dinner and asked where he was. When we walked in we were greeted by someone who said "Hi, how are you?" and when we tried to answer said "OK, we are walking and talking, let's go.". Hm. While we were walking and talking we asked where our favorite server was and she said, in a fashion that suggested it was a sore subject, that he was no longer there. We ordered a small pitcher of margaritas, and there was something chunky in it...like pepper. We ordered fajitas and nachos. They took a while to come out, and the nachos were completely covered in cheese. I wasn't sure there was anything else on there. The cheese was way piled on. But the fajitas were really colorful and the veggies were delicious. All in all, the ladies maybe could have been nicer, but the gentleman who brought us our food was very nice. We asked for our check from two different people, waited about ten minutes each time, and finally went up to the hostess stand. We explained this to the person ringing us up, and she said "Oh, yeah, sometimes that happens", like it was nothing and totally acceptable. Sadly, I think we might be done with Casa Molina for dinner. Their Sunday Brunch is pretty amazing, so we will probably be back for that.

I've only come for the Sunday brunch a few times. If you want Mexican food and are in this area, you can do way, way better. The brunch isn't bad. There's a good spread of varying items and it's kept pretty fresh. The atmosphere is more like a potluck than a buffet. For instance, there's no sneeze guard (not sure of the legalities of that one) and it's all in trays or on plates. The service for the brunch sucks, but all the guy is doing is refilling drinks, so they don't seem to staff a lot of people that day. The food isn't great though. I mean, it beats Golden Corral or (if you know this one) Pancho's, but I've never imagined their regular food off the menu as being that good. I don't really intend to try it either.

Used to be good place for takeout especially for beans, which came w chips and salsa. New rule: no chips and salsa with takeout. Really? I guess I'll take my business to El Saguarito or to Rosas, thank you.

I have two friends who really enjoy Casa Molina, so I end up going here more than I would like. Without fail someone at the table has an entree that should be returned, most recently chicken enchiladas that were cold inside (thawed? still frozen? food safety?) and green corn tamales that were rancid (old oil, old masa, or just an old tamale). I have found the waiters and hosts very pleasant, but there are tons of better options if you are looking for any sort of Mexican food in Tucson. One gets the impression that this place to is too sprawling to have any quality control over what leaves the kitchen.

Friend of my been going here for years so it became a regular place when we need a quick dinner, food seems A-OK and staffs always very friendly and attentive...so even the food wasn't too impressive. I have no problem having dinner here.

I am not sure they deserve one star..but they do not deserve two. Went this afternoon shortly after lunchtime. Walked in and was seated with my girl near the buffet. We discussed eating from it...but decided against it. I haven't been to a CM since the one left the Foothills mall many years ago....I never had any issue with anything at that location. The one on Campbell was not good. Server was polite, but when she came and gave us silverware...it was as if she was playing tiddlywinks...I was a bit perplexed when my three pieces were laid down knife....spoon over knife at a 45 degree angle, then the fork over top the same way...about 6 inches from my napkin. I hadn't thought about it until now...but I feel she was trying in code to tell me not to eat there. Yeah....that has to be it. I looked at the fork...and it looked as if it was taken from the table behind us....as they were using it....it was replaced with a clean one....I am hoping it was anyways...at least there was nothing on it that I could see...and that is 90% of the battle. On to the food. I ordered a chorizo burro. $9.00. This was the driest chorizo I have ever eaten....as my girth with attest.....I have had much chorizo in my life. About three hours after.....I feel yucky. Anyways.....I will not be returning here.

The service was fine. Went in on a quiet evening, seated next to some rowdy folks. Ordered a plate of enchiladas, friend had a chicken chimi. Bland. As. All. Hell. There was no flavor to the chicken, to the sauce. The cheese they use is cheddar. How is that Mexican? No spice to anything. Beans were flavorless and goopy. Would not return.

Food was served at such a hot temperature that I burnt my lip. When I addressed the issue with the manager on duty I was informed that there was nothing she could do about it, rather than apologizing and taking note so that another customer doesn't suffer. I will not spend anymore money at this restaurant, and I urge all others to avoid this establishment.

Gooey green chile enchilada pie, hearty albondigas, savory tamales, and the best sauteed squash north of Nogales are just a few of the not-to-be-missed dishes on CM's expansive Sunday buffet. Factor in polite, attentive service and a muted, relaxing ambience including hand-carved tables and gorgeous tile work, and Casa Molina has joined the 5-star club. Recently, we could not pry ourselves from this table for hours as we felt the need to try each dish. We outlasted the other tables and even watched some tables flip twice, but our waiter did not bat an eye. Who could blame us? The buffet is immaculately kept with nary a stray chip, and each time we perused for more, a new dish appeared. Some were delicious mysteries, like a sweet crab(?) salad and others just plain smart like the tiny cherry-filled burritos with powdered sugar on the dessert side. Sweet to tongue and sound to eye; come buy, come buy.

Anyone who has all you can eat Menudo is good on my book. Went here with the family for Sunday's buffet. Would of given it 4 stars but line control for this buffet wasn't well planned out. Food is delicious for being a buffet. I was shocked at the variety in sopas: red and white menudo, caldo de papas, albondigas. Food: tamales, red chile con carne (mmm), yummy mole, enchiladas, papas con chorizo and much more. $10/person. Not bad-definitely plan on coming back when I have a BIG appetite. Man I'm stuffed.

Mariscos are not to be found here; if you are a fan of seafood done the Mexican way then keep it movin'. This is very Mexican AMERICAN fare. Not that there is anything wrong with that. A limited menu consisting primarily of things you would find at a Roberto's taco shop, but not with the Roberto's prices. The service is friendly, there is a mariachi band - if you like people singing at you loudly to a remarkably polka like beat. The food: decent grub. Grub is the best word to use here. One dish we ordered the tampiquena came with a sirloin steak: only microscopic slices could make it palatable, as it was extremely chewy. The chile relleno, although very good, was so tiny that it only leaves the idea that you ate one. The guacamole is lacking in liveliness. Overall a bit pricey for what it is: underwhelming meal in underwhelming ambience.

Went for lunch. They had reasonably priced lunch specials. I got the "sampler", mini chimi, taco, and queso, husband got meatball soup. Neither was very impressed. Seemed a little gringo-ized. The high points were the refried beans and the really spicy salsa. I am not kidding, it was the spiciest I have ever had in a restaurant! The low point, the ground beef taco which was inedible.

I have been eating at the Casa Molina restaurants for over 20 years. This is the location I go to the most since it's near campus and that's what brings me back to Tucson now. I come here just about every trip back. The chicken chimmis are my favorite and I've been eating them since I was about 4. Have never found one as good as here. One of my favorite restaurants in any city.

Went here for an early dinner, ordered the chicken chimmie. Food arrived, first two bites were great, however after that, the chimie was luke warm, and the chicken was mushy. I have never seen a chimmie with mushy chicken. I just could not get over the texture. The waiter saw that I had eaten only a few bites but never asked why. I have eaten here in the past put this was just a bad experience.

Old reliable. We go there frequently for lunch. Great specials. The lunch chimi is huge. The food is always great. Service is usually top notch.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
