First, let me preface my review. I am a sushi/Japanese food snob, diva, prima donna, generally pain in the ass to take to any Japanese restaurant. I live in LA and I eat in Little Tokyo at least twice a month. That being said, when I had occasion to visit family in Tucson and they suggested a Japanese restaurant, I had to suppress the urge to recoil a' la Bride of Frankenstein. I have been to some Tucson "Asian" restaurants....not good, not good at all. Bushi Sushi is in an unassuming stand alone building somewhat hidden from the street. Parking is great and since we had a reservation, there was no waiting. Two of our party were older so we ate earlier. It did fill up so I suggest a res, just in case, however, we were able to get some fun drinks for cheap since it was Happy Hour! OK, the food. As I sit here remembering it, all I want is to go back. Damn the 8 hour drive by car through the desert, is there no such thing as delivery, Bushi? My Chirashi Don Dinner rocked. Hard. I couldn't believe how much wonderful, sweet, well-cut (so, so important) fish was waiting for me in the super-large bowl. There was even two slices of Unagi cut on the bias (strange look but allows you so much more eel that way). There was even a big, fun mound of seaweed salad, lightly seasoned and crunchy/chewy. I cannot believe that I was criminally full halfway through the meal but being full never stopped me before. My salmon was so sweet that after one bite I decided that I would save it for dessert. Oh Lord, that's right, the dessert! After this amazing meal, the chef created this food art that I am not enough of a snob to keep from devouring. And I did. Completely. To the point of wiping my finger around the plate. Ridiculous. There was a green tea cheesecake (beautifully creamy) a panna cotta (jiggly and light with a lovely quiet sweetness) and my favorite, green tea mochi which were more like lightly sweetened green tea marshmallows in consistency. Most mochi is more chewy and I have to say, I prefer Bushi's mochi by a huge margin. So, my fellow Japanophiles, Sushi snobs and prima donna foodies, there is salvation in the desert! Just go hit up Funakoshiya-san and ask him to do what he does best. Because it is.

I wasn't sure should I rate this 4 star or 3 star, it seems better than 3 ,but not 4 yet. It is a quiet and clean place for lunch, or sometime you just want a quiet and relax lunchtime for yourself, then this is a good place to go. My lunch came out with a nice presentation, 4 different kinds of raw fish were all very fresh. Their service is good , detailed, and friendly. In the end of my meal, they even bought out a tiny cup of organic coffee to me, that was a very sweet a little treat. I will come back for dinner sometime soon.

Best sushi in Tucson... Elegant, affordable, and so very tasty! I definitely will come back. Check out the salmon sashimi with goat cheese and serano chile.... truly amazing!

Really good Japanese food here. I had the chicken terryaki with sushi which was big and delicious. My friend had tempura and some snow crab nigiri sushi special which was awesome. I tried a few bites and was really hooked. The service was also really top notch. The hostesses were very attentive. Our drinks were refilled and we were checked on several times. The only thing was I still found this place a bit overpriced. It was a nice dining experience and I had a groupon for it but still. A dollar or so lower for some of the rolls and entrees would have given it 5 stars.

FAST Review: Food (5/5) - Automatic 2 stars for any sushi place that doesn't make me sick. I love sushi, but it's still raw. Another star for the fresh tasting toro and wild salmon. And one more for the woohoo cakes. They look like colorful little mushrooms, and I half expected a tiny Mario to come out and 1-up himself. Finally, another for the fact that they don't overpower the rolls with tons of rice...just enough. And miso is complimentary. Woohoo to that! (Some places charge you...for shame). Atmosphere (4/5) - I liked the decor. Contemporary and yet at the same time cozy. It was quiet too. I was expecting it to be a bit louder and more energetic, since it's prime location for the college crowd. I'm not sure it's the place that I would be comfortable doing sake bombs in however, due to the low noise level. Not saying that's a bad thing tho. They just have to be careful with the plumbing. When we went, the women's bathroom toilet was stopped up, so everyone was using the men's RR. Service (5/5) - Prompt and friendly. Total Impression (5/5) Bushi sushi made a good first impression. It is definitely a place I would take another trip to. Time to buy a Restaurant.com gift card!

Last night was a great experience at Bushi! The sushi chef obliviously takes great pride in his art, and we got to try creative rolls that we're something much different from our regular choices. Pair yummy food with 5$ sake bombs and you can't go wrong!

Have been there twice, once for lunch and then for dinner. Have to say both times impressed by the freshness of the sushi, and how helpful the sushi chefs were very friendly. Both times it wasn't to busy, so service was very prompt. The food is wonderful, great twists on some traditional japanese cuisine. Everyday they have happy hour 4-7 p.m. The day we went for dinner we made it just in time to order some items from the Happy Hour Menu. We had the white fish Sashimi. MMMM MMM, it was white fish with a slight orange flavored rice vinegar and a very thin slice of jalapeno on top. The Chicken & Beef Yakatori, also very good. The presentation of their dishes is one of the best I've seen in Tucson. The day I had lunch was also pretty terrific. Ordered from the lunch menu, which had a roll and 2 spicy hand rolls, as well as the usual soup, salad & edemame. I've already raved to everyone at work about this place! This is going to be one of my regular sushi spots.

I had lunch with two of my coworkers today. The Groupon brought us in, but we'll definitely be back! My coworkers had the Two Item lunch and they enjoyed their Spicy Pork, Bulgogi, and the Spicy Tuna rolls. I had the Nigri Sushi lunch and enjoyed it as well. We had good service with plenty of refills on our iced green tea. Our orders did take quite a long time to come out, but the staff gave us an extra 15% for our wait. We also split two desserts at the end, the Chocoyza Sundae & the Fruit Kurimu. I definitely would go back just for the Chocoyza Sundae! I recommend it with the Green Tea ice cream. All in all, one of the better Sushi/Japanese/Korean places in Tucson that I've tried lately. With all of the other Sushi restaurants declining in quality, I would take my friends and out of town visitors here this summer for a cool dinner.

My first impression of Bushi was during a Yelp event, the care that the staff had to make the event a success was exceptional. My interest was piqued and I had to come back within a week. This is the best service I've seen at a sushi restaurant in Tucson. Everything was brought out immediately and the entire staff worked together to make sure I enjoyed my meal. I judge a sushi restaurant by two measures, how fresh the yellowtail nigiri is and how unique the chefs special rolls are. Sadly Bushi was average on the nigiri. However the Bushi roll more than made up for it, strawberry and jalapeno are not something I would normally think of but wow it made for an amazing mix. I absolutely plan on coming back, unfortunately I can not do it to often because it is a bit pricier then I am used to. It will be on my special occasion list though.

A talented and friendly chef who is adventurous with his sushi-making. Strawberries? It works. The quality in fish is there, no flaws detected in my usual hamachi nigiri. Service is competent, not much beyond that. More creative desserts and a more comfortable, charming staff would earn that extra star from me.

Great find,. It is quiet, service is solid, food is great but a little pricey. Happy hour prices on sushi and drinks, portions for entrees are large. 5 stars for the good noice level unlike other larger sushi places in town.

Stopped by for lunch and had their lunch bento. Reasonably priced and really excellent, tasty food....from the salad and miso down to the entrees. All very well prepared and delicious.

All I can say, being from Orlando, is that this is a must have for anyone craving sushi in a landlocked place. I will definitely be back... Whenever that might be...

Best Japanese food in Tucson hands down. If you can get a seat at the sushi bar and have some of Shun-san's creations, you will not be disappointed.

We had three different rolls, all good, but the lightly deep fried ones were very good. Hit of the evening was the tuna serrano, with a miso/orange/mustard/truffle sauce - we almost licked the plate! The fish was fresh but less flavorful than other sushi places, but the sauce was excellent. Service was a little slow and visits to our table were infrequent. If you need time to talk to someone this can be an advantage. The sake bombers were inexpensive and this February they are celebrating their first year with specials.

Finally made it to dinner at Bushi. We are big fans of Japanese cooking and sushi in particular. This location had previously been another Japanese sushi restaurant under a different name and owner. Had the teriyaki chicken dinner which was excellent! The sushi is a bit pricey compared to other sushi places in town. The night we dined, there was a good crowd, nice buzz, and a very congenial wait staff. Also appreciated that the owner was present and available to chat with customers. Next time we will have the sushi.

Wonderful ambience - not too cheesy, not too red in decor, not too blinding bright inside, nice bathrooms. Some of the best complimentary miso soup and post-dinner coffee ever. I am not sure why the edamame was unsalted, but it was free! The service is excellent - very understanding, attentive, and perceptive. I loved the sashimi, especially the salmon and tuna - super thick! I would stay away from the fried rolls - maybe were not cooked in hot enough oil?

I have been Bushi twice now since they opened. I liked their contemporary Asian cuisine choices and modern décor. Customers seemed to enjoy the nice atmosphere. The Chefs in the Sushi bar are very welcoming and constantly interact with customers. It's a good restaurant; however, I do think there is room for some minor improvements. To be honest my first visit was not that great. The restaurant was almost completely full except for two tables, and the service was extremely slow. We waited for 30 minutes for our first appetizer to arrive and another 10 minutes for my friends to get theirs. We were starving by the time the food arrived. I had the Calamari Salad for an appetizer, and it was tasteless. I also felt the dipping sauce did not go with the Calamari too well. On a positive note, the fish in my Sashimi dinner entrée was fresh and tasty. My second dining experience was a little better. The wait was not as bad as the first time, but I still felt the service was slow (they only had a half house of customers that night). I could see our server was trying to do better, but our water never got refilled, and our drinks were not delivered in a timely manner. Their wine selection is limited...I will not recommend ordering wine there. My Shiraz was not tasty. As far as food goes, Bushi does have some good dishes that we like very much. We love the Super White Tuna appetizer. It was so good with a small piece of jalapeno and white sauce on top. I think it was a brilliant creation! The Tofu Nuggets (looked like deep fried chicken nuggets mixed with vegetables) were also an excellent appetizer. Yummy!! My friend and I both ordered the Deluxe Sushi Platter which included Sashimi, Nigiri Sushi, and a Spicy Tuna Roll. I was happy with the Sashimi because it was fresh. The Nigiri Sushi and Spicy Tuna Roll were just OK. The rice in the Nigiri was not quite right and kept falling apart, so it was very difficult to use chopsticks to eat it. The Spicy Tuna Roll was not spicy at all. I think they could add more spice to it. Just before we finished our food, my friend told me she had a bad piece of sashimi. She said it tasted like detergent, and she had to spit it out. I told our server about it, and she replied that the Striped Bass is very low quality fish. She assured us she would let the Chef know that my friend had a bad piece. Well, this was not quite the reaction we were looking for when we paid $27 for this dish. I wish they could have done something different to compensate my friend for eating a yucky piece of fish. Bushi continues to improve. With some attention on faster service, a little more spice in the spicy tuna roll, a better wine selection, and being more understanding of the customer experience, this could be a great place.

Everyone knows I'm a self proclaimed sushi snob. Now that I am eating low carb, I have a harder time picking out foods that don't send my insulin sky high. Who doesn't love rice, but I'm not eating it now. I went with a group of friends and there was only one waitress for the entire establishment on a Saturday at lunchtime. She did an ok job considering her task. I ordered the seafood salad which came out in a pirex sized mixing bowl. It was loaded with fresh fish and definitely a steal at around $15. I will definitely have the dish when I return again. They also do 20% military discounts on Fri so I will probably wait until a Fri to go there again.

Food was ok, but nothing special. Looked a lot better than it tasted. Atmosphere was nice but there was no one there. $45 for 2 people to eat dinner :/ not sure if I will go again.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little place. I personally am not the biggest sushi fan, however I have a fiancé who loves the stuff. We went in and the place was very clean with a nice ambiance. We ordered the crab puffs which were actually really great. The texture was light and crispy. Then for our entrees, sorry to disappoint you all but I didn't have any sushi. I did however have chicken teriyaki and it was so good! No overkill with the sauce either! My dish also came with miso soup, salad, and shrimp tempura. The soup was okay and I could've skipped the salad however loved everything else. The thing that I really like about this place is that sushi lovers and non sushi lovers can come eat here without worrying who is going to eat what. My fiancé loved his sushi! I do mean love too he even suggested coming to eat there again for the next day! Let me just tell you that is not in his nature at all. We are definitely going back and we are looking forward to taking our friends as well!

I have been wanting to try Bushi for the longest time due to all the great reviews they have on yelp! We finally went for dinner and the whole experience was great. The restaurant was empty when we came in as they had just opened for dinner. The restaurant itself looked really nice & clean but I thought it needed something, maybe some background music The waiter was great & our drinks were never empty & he was very helpful. Now the food, it was really good! They gave us complimentary edemame & miso soup which tasted great. We also ordered the bushivichi, Thai calamari, the Mexican roll & the gyoza. All the appetizers were really good. The roll was perfect, not huge & tasted great! At the end of our meal they gave us complimentary coffee which was the best tasting coffee ever! The sushi chef also gave my daughters these cookie type sticks covered in chocolate, I thought that was a nice touch. They all said bye & thank you when we walked out. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu!! :D

this place-hands down-fantastic. I have some pretty high expectations when it comes to sushi, and this place definitely exceeded them. With new ownership (previously Kampai, which was so-so)...Bushi had excellent sashimi, with salmon that melts in your mouth like butter, and yellowtail and tuna that was chewy but delicate in flavor...needless to say, I was in heaven. nagi-san- the older japanese chef, was adorable, and was extremely patient with my "pickY" requests .... the only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars was because the waiter service was slow- rather non-existent, and the ginger was so salty, which remained as a sour aftertaste for hours after having a great sushi dinner. I usually hoard ginger- in fact, I make pickled sushi ginger myself, but this was soooo salty- I'm hoping I just got a bad batch, b/c eating sushi with ginger is a must for me....other than that, this place was great and I plan on returning again and again...and again!

I came here for my birthday with friends and family. I don't know if there was a fluke, but they were understaffed. Our waitress was extremely hurried all night, so much so you had to really stop her to ask her for things like silverware, water, and drinks. Also, the place could use a little music. I don't need a rock band, but a little background music would be great. As to the food, we all enjoyed it. The rolls were good, and the sushi very fresh and good sized. I would go back, but i hope the service is improved.

We went into Bushi unsure what to expect because the outside doesn't look too appealing. The name Bushi suggested sushi or Japanese, but we weren't too sure. As we entered, we were surprised by the modern, clean decor accented with bright red walls. We were greeted by a friendly hostess so things were off to a good start. And it stopped there. SERVICE = 2/5 Our waitress had a fake smile, seemed a little stuck up, lazy, lost, or she could have been new because most of the time she didn't know what she was doing. It was next to impossible to flag her down, and when we did, she went off somewhere else. As she gave us our drinks, we were ready to order, she just left not even asking us if we were ready to order. There were about 10 other tables seated with 4 waitresses, so it wasn't busy. We asked for another chopstick, and she rudely rolled her eyes at us as if we were inconveniencing her. The other waitresses however were friendly, prompt, and approachable, unlike our waitress who was rude, lazy, unapproachable, avoiding our table, passed us by numerous times without making any eye contact. FOOD = 3/5 - Sushi - the crab meat in the sushi was imitation crab meat, although their sushi chefs make their sushi fresh to order - Miso Soup - did not taste fresh, almost like it was made from a package - Salad - drenched in the house dressing that the vegetables were wilted and not crisp - Chicken Teriyaki - chicken breast was dry, sauce was watered down that it barely glazed the chicken, it was runny - Tempura - batter was delicious; shrimp was cooked properly; vegetables were undercooked, raw and hard - Gyoza - dough was thick and chewy; filling was salty - a shot of Ethiopian coffee - we were a bit confused with the Asian/Japanese food ending with Ethiopian coffee which was offered to everyone after their meal but it was a good way to end a meal; coffee was light, mild, not bitter, and not overpowering with caffeine - presentation of the dishes - it was very creative, artistic, and beautiful, but it looked better than it tasted OVERALL = 3/5 Considering the quality of the food and taste, the prices are unjustifiable. I've definitely had fresher, quality foods with cheaper prices that was beyond what Bushi had to offer. Unfortunately, this is not one of those places I will be dining at again.

I took my g/f here while on a weekend getaway and was not disappointed. We arrived shortly after they opened at 4:30 pm after a day of sightseeing and was pleased at the decor, clean and modern. We were immediately seated and the wait staff was very attentive to all of our needs. My g/f is a big sushi fan and so we ordered 4 items and the 2-1 sake. I must say that everything was great and I was surprised to find our order included miso soup and edamame too, a nice bonus. I would definately return and recommend it to others.

The groupon drew me in, along with about a million other people, to try this new Asian restaurant. Needless to say, they were not prepared for the rush. Although I sympathize, we stood in the entry way for 10 minutes and the hostess only took our name down when we specifically asked her to. They were just sort of seating people in whatever order they thought they showed up in. The service was also pretty slow and slightly confused. I think the waitstaff wasn't familiar with the menu, and they didn't know how to deal with the groupon. I saw a waiter walking around confused with two dishes, going from table to table to find out who ordered it. One of the customers had to direct him to the proper table. It seemed like everyone was waiting on every table, which could account for the confusion. Beyond that, the food was good. The sushi was fresh. The california rolls, however, were *NOT* good. We also had bulgogi and chicken teriyaki...both were decent. Overall, there is nothing particularly bad about this place but nothing particularly good either. I doubt I would try it again.

My hubby picked up sushi last night after reading reviews here and I can say that, once again, Yelpers are right! We ordered five rolls: Seven Virtues, Samurai, Greek, Sweet Potato, and Spicy Tuna. The Samurai was awesome, by far my favorite. The Greek is very innovative, different flavor. The sweet potato was a bit undercooked for my taste, but still good. The spicy tuna was pretty normal and the Seven Virtues was tasty! The service (on the phone and during pick up) was spotless, very friendly and professional. This is our new favorite sushi spot. The prices are a bit high, but the quality was unmistakable!

I've passed by this place so many times and finally stopped in for happy hour and Im so glad I did! The prices were so reasonable that my hubby and I tried several different sushi rolls.. the sushi was so fresh and delicious. I believe the sushi chef is the owner and he was so humble and pleasant. We'll definitely come back again!

We can't wait to return as the food was absolutely wonderful! We ordered two appetizers-the Agedashi Tofu-talk about melt in your mouth. It came with a delectable sauce so good and silky- and a seafood dish-the Spicy Garlic stuffed Shrimp appetizer-WOW! We could have easily made a meal out of just these items, but hey, why stop there? For our dinner entrée's Mike got a chicken dish (Chicken Katsu-moist, yummy chicken done just so) and I got a beef dish-Bulgogi which came sizzling to the table in its own cast-iron presentation skillet. This dish was savory to the max. We figured that with the variety we chose, it would enable us to get a good overview of the offerings at Bushi. Try the organic green tea. It was a perfect complement to the meal. Usually I put sugar in tea, but not this time. It didn't need it. After our server Sarah cleared the table, she then brought two cute little, steaming egg-shaped cups of complimentary coffee from Savaya Coffee Market. They're here in town out on Broadway. They've partnered with Bushi to turn folks on to their organic coffee offerings. My husband loved his, and he doesn't even like coffee! It too was delicious. Sarah told us that this particular coffee from Ethiopia was specifically chosen to compliment the sushi. Well, we didn't have sushi (this time) but it was great, especially with just a touch of sugar. Everything was cooked to perfection. The ambiance of the place was warm and welcoming -decorated simply, but tastefully with lots of polished wood. The restaurant proper was impeccably clean. Even the restrooms were spotless. Our server, Sarah was great. She was busy, but took time to patiently answer all our questions, had a winning smile and a friendly personality. It was clear that she LIKED what she was doing. As I looked around the room that night, it seemed the other patrons were enjoying themselves as well. As our leftovers were being packed up for us, and before we left, we were already thinking about what dishes to try next time...and next time we'll bring friends! Kudos to Bushi!

This place is awesome. To start off, the sushi here is easily the highest quality along with a few other places here in Tucson; fat, bright pieces. The dinner menu actually has some great selections that I would go to Bushi for alone. The place is clean, comfortable and is decorated just right. Always very pleased with service. I went in maybe twice in two months and some how they remembered me and what I ordered, top notch.

My wife and I have been Oro Valley residents since 2003. Early on, we started eating at Sushi on Oracle every two weeks. We were impressed with the consistent quality and freshness of everything we ate. Earlier this year, we learned that Shun had left Sushi on Oracle to become Executive Chef at Bushi. We have made the 40 minute drive twice, and I have to tell you the food is worth the drive. Shun is an incredible Sushi chef, respectful of tradition but fearless to innovate - the result is some of the most beautiful and flavorful sushi and sashimi dishes we have ever tasted anywhere in the world. If you get there early enough to see the Happy hour menu, don't even think about it - order the Super White Tuna sashimi mentioned in several other reviews. I have never tasted anything like it. It is the first appetizer I liked so well I had to order another one at the end of the meal. The flavor will tease you and haunt you once it's gone. Just try it. We sat that the sushi bar and had a wonderful time with Shun. I asked him what his favorite roll was, and after some coaxing, he admitted it was the seven virtues roll. It was exquisite. We also branched out and tried the cajun roll and the samurai roll, and to this minute I can not tell you which roll I liked better. Fusing strawberry and jalapeno into a sushi roll defies the imagination, but the flavors work so well you will wonder if you can go back to regular sushi rolls again. I have read in other reviews that the prices are a bit steep, and while there is some truth to that, you get what you pay for and then some. This is a wonderful establishment with a world-class chef right here in Tucson. I am glad we made the drive and would recommend this place to anyone who loves quality, consistency and playful innovation in their sushi. The flavors are simply to die for! Good on you Shun!!!

After reading the positive reviews of this place we were excited to go. Made reservations for 4 and away we went! Picked up a 5th person along the way and the hostess was NOT happy about that. We finally got seated in a booth (5 year old on our lap). We pretended not to notice the numerous tables that could have accommodated us (that remained empty the hour and a half that we were there). Service was rude and it seemed as though they were doing us a favor by placing our order for us. Food was pretty good and had a nice presentation. We had the gyoza (average), the Mexican (yummy), the Greek (unique), the Bushi (interesting), the kid Sushi Set (she thought it was great), and some green tea ice cream. We also ordered a sake bomber with Kirin but was told it could only be done with Sapporo (???). Getting our check was a hassle. I had to go and get it and even then, she would only tell me the total. I asked to see an actual check (especially since the total was $70 for 3 of us and another $40 for the other 2) and she rolled her eyes and sighed. Will NOT go again.

I ate at Bushi tonight for the first time and I highly recommend it to all Sushi lovers in the Tucson area. The Yellow Tail Serrano was out of this world. I can't wait to go back.

this place is such a find! can't believe I haven't tried it before! the place is super clean, nicely decorated, and the waitress was the nicest person! She clearly explained that they have a happy hour sushi menu (and that the 10% off Yelp discount doesn't apply to those rolls), but she did give us the 10% off the other non-hh items we ordered. so super sweet - she was great! The sushi was all very tasty! fresh ingredients, perfect rice, and the sizes were reasonable. I hate when the piece is so large you can't eat it in one bite. We ordered the Mango/salmon roll, the Bubba roll, california and philly - all were really tasty! Some of my favorite sushi that I've had in town so far! They had a really nice selection of rolls on the HH menu. The more fancy rolls weren't included on the HH menu, but getting some cheaper options cheaply so you can splurge on the more ornate rolls was pretty cool. I'd highly recommend giving it a try!

I LOVE this place! I was looking for a nice sushi restaurant for us to go and everywhere else seemed like it was a low rent place in a strip mall. Bushi is not super fancy and not super expensive. They are super good though. You get miso and edamame for free to start with before your meal... much like an italian place bringing you bread before ordering. That was so cool. The rolls are unique and wonderful and I would come here all the time if I lived in Tucson. I will mention though that if you want a really fancy place, you should try up on Sunrise Drive. the area isnt the best here, but it is near a Sprouts, so thats not all bad. The food is excellent, the service is excellent, and the prices are right

I LOVE BUSHI!!!!!! It's absolutely the best sushi place in town! I wish more people discovered it and came more often! I know frequent a lot with my family. Their happy hour prices are unbeatable, especially for the quality and taste! The server, Linda, is also super friendly and always brings complimentary starters like miso soup, edamame, and salad. I can't go back to many sushi places after visiting Bushi. You won't regret it!

Very nice staff, EXCELLENT SUSHI! The atmosphere is very nice inside; everything looks new and very clean. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but give it a chance nonetheless, you'll love your experience! Best sushi I've had in a while, and I come from a big city.

By far the most under-appreciated sushi place in Tucson, which makes me both happy and sad. Happy, because every time I go there's nobody there and there's no wait to get in, no loud clamor of drunk college kids like at some other sushi places that shall remain garden-less...I mean nameless. But it makes me sad, too, because this place deserves better business and I would be very sad if they ever went out of business. Truthfully, I think they have the best sushi rolls in all of Tucson. It is not all you can eat, but if you go during their happy hour and order off that truly extensive menu, you will eat to your hearts content and wind up paying less than you would have if you had gone to all you can eat. I know, because I've done just that. My wife and I on one particularly hungry day ordered approximately 8 rolls between the two of us, plus sake bombs, and still payed less than we would have for just the sushi elsewhere...and we were STUFFED. So you do the math. The staff is always super friendly, and I haven't seen him the last few times but Shun is a master at making sushi and small talk. Very friendly guy. I will be back as often as I can, honestly. It's just sad and odd how nobody knows about this place. Every time I bring it up to a friend, they've never heard of it. Hopefully, they can remedy that situation and keep everything else the same.

First, I feel I should start by stating how hard it is to find a good sushi restaurant in the Tucson area. My husband and I had been looking for months and are now happy to have finally found a place that we will come to regularly! Bushi really impressed us. We walked in and the atmosphere was very calm and quiet with great decor. The staff were all very friendly and helped us out right away. The quality of the fish was incredible! It tasted so fresh. Every dish that we ordered was prepared impeccably and looked beautiful. The menu had a huge selection of fun and different rolls to try. We order the Chicken Yakitori appetizer for our daughter. It was very tasty and cooked to perfection. For my husband and myself, we ordered a salmon sashimi platter with Serrano peppers and a delicious sauce, two pieces each of tuna and salmon sushi, a Steve-O Roll, a Mango Crunch Roll, and a Rock & Roll w/ Spicy Tuna Roll. The mango crunch roll was a little too sweet for our liking, but the flavors on each roll were perfectly balanced. The salmon sashimi platter was something that I would eat every single day. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be returning soon!

This was our first time to Bushi. My family came for the sushi & sashimi. I came for the tempura shrimp. We enjoyed the food very much. It's a quiet restaurant. No big crowds, but the food & service were excellent. I was disappointed that the did not have fried ice cream. Others in our family felt the rice was a little dry. It didn't stick like they wanted. This made it hard to eat with chopsticks, which is a challenge we enjoyed facing eating here. We will definitely come back!!

Yum! This seems to be a very under-appreciated sushi place in Tucson. There is never anyone in here when I go, and I don't hear about it much. But this sushi is amazing. Really. They have very unique creations, including my new favorite thing, the Sweet Potato Roll! Ugh! No fish, just sweet potato and I think eel sauce. Dear lord, it really is delicious. They have special rolls that seem to change some what frequently, like the Greek Roll, which we tried and it was darned tasty. The prices here are very affordable. My husband and I comment, every time we come, that the sushi is WAY better than Sushi Garden, and even though they don't offer All You Can Eat, we wind up paying the same amount for the same amount of food, and the sushi tastes so much fresher! The Happy Hour here is great, too. Hooray for sake! This is one of my favorite sushi places in Tucson. Good prices, amazing sushi...yum! I smell today's lunch!

Bushi is one of my midtown favorites, and I can never understand why it's always so quiet. The booths are typically filled with romantic couples while the center of the restaurant is ghostly quiet. When our Cherry Blossom roll was presented, I had to stifle a squeal of delight. Artfully displayed, it looked like a colorful caterpillar with radish-sprout antennae, orange roe sprinkles, and avocado stripes. Our nigiri (crab and yellowtail) were melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and even the cuke salad here is a delicious sesame-sweet piece of art piled tastefully and topped with succulent strings of crab and sprouts. The Yummy-Yummy and Playboy are outstanding here as well.

Best sushi place in Tucson. Great presentation and taste. I highly recommend the crispy crunch roll. The sushi chef is very good at the presentation, props to him and the restaurant.

Lots of seating, and staff is decent. The sushi seemed mediocre to me, and lacking in flavor. Our experience definitely was not a bad one, or a good one. I used the check-in coupon for, I believe it was, 10% off the bill. I would like to return here again to give it another shot, as we may have arrived on a bad night for them.

Bushi Sushi is a diamond in the rough. The area surrounding it is kinda sketch, but the place itself is one of the nicer sushi restaurants we've been to here in Tucson. The service was excellent with the waitress being very friendly and tending to our needs at the right times. The food was very good too with very few exceptions. The miso soup (free) was a little too oniony and i would have liked to see some chunks of tofu. The edemame, also free was excellent; the right amount of salt and not under or over cooked. The sushi was well presented and all the fish was fresh tasting. We had the following rolls: the fireball, bushi roll, spider roll and rainbow roll but I will only review one. The bushi roll was a unique roll having strawberries and what looked like caviar on top. The flavor was also very unique because of that and I would have to say it's a must try. It was a tasteful blend of smokey and sweet. Overall, I would have to highly recommend this place for any sushi lovers.

Pretty standard fare. A short menu and a long list of specialty rolls offer a wide variety of food. I chose the Godzilla roll, which is an eel roll with strawberries and avocado (there used to be a similar dessert flavored sushi in a maple sauce at the long-gone Sky Blue Wasabi), and the Seven Virtues roll, which is a riceless roll comprised of many different kinds of fish, and deep fried. The menu reported that it contained jalapeño, but I did not taste that flavor. They were both good and filling. Decent miso and hot edamame come out before your food. The edamame could have used some salt. The joint was basically empty at dinnertime on a Saturday when we came in. I do feel like the specialty rolls were a bit overpriced. Twenty-three dollars for 2 rolls? They weren't especially large, and the prices aren't on the menu. Waitress does not bring tab to the table; you have to go back to the entrance to pay.

It's called Bushi Sushi, but sushi is not the only thing they do well. I have tried 4 different things from here. The beef bulogi, the Bushi salad, a rainbow roll, and nigiri salmon. The beef bulogi was very rich and flavorful. It taste exactly like you would expect bulogi to taste. The beef was very well marinated. The bushi salad was a combination of spicy ground fish with fish chunks served over cucumber. The fish was very fresh. It tasted like a spicy version of Hawaiian poke. The rainbow roll was good and the presentation was excellent. The fish was sliced at a good enough thickness. The nigiri salmon was high quality with just enough marbling to say it was very good.

Used to come here when it was Kampai sushi and liked it. Thought we would give it a try based on the good reviews we saw on Yelp. First, the place was severely understaffed as it took about ten minutes waiting in the lobby before anyone even acknowledged that we were there. After we were seated it took about 15 minutes before we were asked about drinks. We ordered some happy hour sushi and some greet tea. The sushi came in a decent amount of time once it was ordered. The sushi was not good, it was not fresh and the rice was a bit stale. We were very disappointed, as we wanted to like this place. We wanted to try our luck with some other sushi but were told by the waitress (with the emphasis on "wait") that there was an order ahead of us and we couldn't order more sushi at this time. Seemed very weird and somewhat rude. So then we waited a good 20 minutes for our check and finally decided to wait up at the front register until someone came by to provide our check. We left hungry and vowing never to return, sad to say. There are other and much better sushi places in town, the other reviewers that gave this place glowing reviews must be related to the owners or something. Either that or they are used to sushi from a can.

Went again last night and we were blown away by how good everything was. Yellowtail sashimi was beautifully cut and amazing. The Bushi special appetizer is a delicious blend of spicy yellowtail and crab on top of sweet cucumber slices. Perfect combo of sweet and salty. Soft shell crab roll amazing. Best of all is the nicest family that owns and runs the restaurant.

This place is great! Went in the middle of the day so not busy at all. But their food is incredible! I suggest the bushi roll. A little pricey, but well worth it.

Salmon skin roll, how do I love thee? And how about a great selection of price-reduced roll for happy hour, that lasts until 6pm nightly? Don't even get me started on the caterpillar roll, which is the best I've had. The service is always spot-on, the prices fantastic, and food superb. Yay, Bushi! I hope you exist always for me!

I enjoyed my experience here thoroughly. It was completely empty when my friend and I dined here because the University of Arizona basketball team was playing. We ordered the chicken yakisoba, sweet potato roll, shrimp tempura roll, and the teriyaki chicken. The sweet potato roll was a nice idea but the oil used to fry the sweet potato was stale. Next for my entree I had the chicken teriyaki. Chicken was super moist and vegetables were tasty.

The 3-star review is really because the prices were extremely reasonable and the restaurant itself was sparkling clean and very comfortable. The rest of the experience was definitely a solid 2. Service, though pretty slow was, at least, pleasant. There was only 1 server for about 4 or 5 tables, so she was pretty busy, but the little things were missing, like an empty wine glass and not being asked if I'd like another, same with the glass of water... The food itself. Well, the Miso soup was just fine, and the edamame was very good, but on this particular occasion I found the sashimi to be wanting. There was very little taste, and the fish also had this sort-of waterlogged texture to it...very strange. Everything I had was pretty much on the bland side and that is a first for me; I suppose that's better than a fishy taste, but bland and mushy isn't so hot either. As with any place I go to that I'm not completely satisfied with, I will give Bushi another chance next time I am in the Tucson area. I'm hoping this was just possibly an off-night, especially as most of the reviews for this establishment are glowing. I will definitely update my review upon finishing my 2nd chance rule!

Bushi Sushi is our go to sushi place. The complimentary miso soup and edamames are always appreciated before our regular sushi order of California and Crunch Rolls. The food and service have always been consistently good.

Great restaurant! We ordered Spider, Fireball, Arizona, and Kake Udon. Spider and Fireball were bit salty, but so delicious. Udon was also good. But Arizona was okay. (I didn't expect the fried crab would be fake crab) Staffs are very nice and friendly. We would definitely go back :)

Best sushi in Tucson so far!! I'll definitely be back. If you're like me, raised on an island and/or lived in Japan, you'll be satisfied with the sushi here. The price isn't too bad either!

I was a little worried when I showed up to see it was empty at lunch time. Turns out I was just lucky, I have never been here and was in a hurry, without a crowd I was in and out. The food was certainly not the reason the place was not crowded, it was fantastic. I had the lunch special and it was very generously sized and really tasty. I also had a 2 piece salmon, which I order at every Japanese restaurant I go to and it was very fresh and also pretty large. I was impressed overall, of you are around for lunch and feeling Japanese food, go here.

I've been here at least 4 times with my husband and we have loved it every time! By far, the best sushi in Tucson! We always leave here happy! The staff is the nicest around and its never overly crowded. Best place for a quiet date night with amazing food and great prices! I recommend this place to everyone I know.

Went in to Bushi for their happy hour mid-afternoon. At 4 o clock on a Wednesday, we had the entire place to ourselves. Their happy hour sushi menu is one of the best in town, offering up over 20 rolls and a la carte options at discounted prices, in addition to a nice selection of bargain-priced beers. (A regular bottle of beer is $2, and a large bottle is $3, for example; California rolls = $2). We ordered 4 different rolls -- The California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Las Vegas Roll, and the Fireball Roll-- I HIGHLY recommend the Fireball. For $7.99, it's an absolute steal, and a mouthgasm waiting to happen (yup, I went there). The other rolls were delicious, though it's hard to mess up a California Roll... Either way, the sushi chef clearly knows his way around back there. (If you're reading this, chef, nice job!) We also tried the squid salad-- great portion size, fantastic flavor and texture, and perfectly priced. Ending the meal with it was a great choice. I am an absolute lover of sushi, no two ways around it. Needless to say, I'll be coming back to Bushi in the future. And, although they're not the best I've ever had, they're definitely deserving of all 5 stars, in my opinion. Give them a try! 5/5

One of our favorite sushi places of all time. + staff is friendly + place is clean + good for large groups + happy hour + fresh and yummy sushi We've often made orders to pickup and the quality is just as good. Lots of specialty rolls to chose from... Haven't met one I didn't like. :)

Bushi is a solid restaurant in my experience, but the pictures on Yelp and their website over sell it in my opinion. Many of the items are not that fancy looking. The sushi was good however, I would peg it as equivalent to Kazoku but lower than Sushi on Oracle. Good for larger groups since they have large circular tables and seem to be less packed in the evenings in my experience.

  • Lisa L.

The Best sushi in Tucson, hands down. I don't know why people go to other places. Ichiban SKIMPS on the fish, the place in the trader Joes shopping center is not good either. Bushi has the freshest fish, the best quality, and the largest portions, and the best flavors/creations. Get the Katrina and the Hawaiian. Anything with the spicy mayo is worth it.

So,- don't go here if you are hoping to get service. 20mins plus and we still are yet to meet a server. The place is empty so no excuse.

So I believe that owners have changed hands, or at least management since last time I was here. They were very accommodating for our big group. The sushi was good and reasonably priced. The squid salad was really good. The tuna nigiri was also fresh. If you are in the midtown area this is a solid choice for sushi. Not my favorite, but good. I will probably go back and give it another try to see if we can bump it up a star.

Amazing! My boyfriend and I go to a bunch of the sushi places here in town and this is our new favorite. We had salmon and yellowtail nigiri, Mexican roll, super Vegas roll, volcano roll and atom bomb roll. They were all so good. I couldn't even pick one as my favorite. The nigiri was especially good too....you could tell the fish was really fresh. Excited to try some of their other rolls as well.

Sometimes I think about Bushi randomly and actually miss the people running the restaurant. Do I miss the food? Not as much, only because living in CA spoils you rotten but Bushi has the best sushi in Tucson so for that reason I give them 4 stars. The owners are Korean and when I first moved to Tucson, I didn't really have anything linking me to my culture so meeting them was like a little slice of home, in the middle of the desert.

The husband and I tried this place out for the first time last week, and we will def be back! They have a pretty standard sushi menu, and we ordered the house specialty, the bushi roll. Topped with strawberries, this roll is delicious, as were the other items we tried :) We were there on a week night, and business was rather slow, which was great. The server and the chef were both very sweet and charming. It's a slower paced restaurant, so don't go expecting techno music and fast service.

Out of the way for me, but during happy hour pricing, this is my favorite sushi place in Tucson. Significantly cheaper rolls during happy hour (starts at 3:30pm). It was very empty and quiet when we went (weekday 3:30-4:30pm) and that was fine by me.

Bushi was a surprising find, especially considering it's hidden location behind Sir Veza's. I called a few days beforehand to reserve a table for a larger party for a surprise birthday dinner, and the service was very friendly from the beginning. The place was not very busy for a Friday night, but service was pretty slow anyways. We eventually had to flag somebody down to turn in our sushi order, there only seemed to be two waitresses for the whole restaurant. Happy hour runs until 6 pm and they seemed to have some good specials. The waitstaff was especially helpful with the birthday stuff, the lady kept our cake in the fridge and even brought out plates, and candles for the cake. Definitely going above and beyond. We will definitely be back to Bushi.

My husband and I tried Bushi for the first time when we had purchased a Groupon. I love Sushi and he doesn't. So, we were pleased to find that they had a great menu as a whole. We ordered the Tempura vegetables ($5.99) and while they were good, I thought it was a little pricey for 4-5 pieces. He ordered the Beef Teriyaki and thought it was amazing. ($14.99) I had a few different sushi rolls and they were fresh and delicious! Can't wait to go back. (I have another Groupon and now a Buddy's Deal!)

Bushi sushi is a solid little place for those who love a loaded sushi roll. You want cream cheese and jalapenos in a roll? You got it! How about Crab with eel sauce, avocado and tempura? You got it! They've got every kind of roll and they're done nicely. However, a sushi night for me consists of nigiri and sashimi and theirs is decent but not thin and delicate how it should be. The service was super friendly and attentive and I'd come back for that reason alone. Most people enjoy eating rolls, so I recommend Bushi for their sushi rolls. For two rolls, three orders of nigiri (each comes with 2 pieces), chicken teriyaki, and two large Kirin Light our bill was about $54.00, I'd say that's pretty average for Tucson. If you're looking for a great place for larger group I say come here!

Came in at about 4pm on a Sat. It was slow just our party of 4 and 2 people at the bar. ordered the happy hour las vegas roll, Fair warning it was small and damn good. The spider roll had the freshest soft shell crab this far from the ocean. I think that the shari (rice ball under the fish) on the nigiri was a bit too small. Special lady friend's mom got the yakisoba and it was also very nice. The free miso soup was not very good. I also get the feeling that if they were busy that the service would suffer dramatically. The vibe there is a bit too frat-boy esque. Bottom line this place is my #3 sushi place in tucson #1 on the east side.

I don't like sushi. Anyone who knows me well knows it won't be the first thing I suggest when the group wants to go grab grub, but for some reason Bushi has won me over... a few reasons actually. First off, they listen. They really do. Not in that fake "please tell us what we can improve we really value your feedback" sort of way that many restaurants subscribe to, but never do anything with. No, they listen to your feedback and then actually apply it in the restaurant to make changes that have impact. Since the spring, I've noticed menu changes, staff changes, and a few really enticing additions that will make it so I go back soon - namely the Savaya coffee at the end of your meal. Uhm why can't every restaurant provide a fab ending? Four stars until I try more of the menu and can confirm this place is as good as they want it to be. So far the seaweed salad is the one dish that blew me outta my seat, dragged me on my ass, picked me up and kicked me in the shin, it's amazing, the best I've had in AZ and maybe anywhere. The interior needs some love, and the outside needs their logo, but baby stems. Know Before You Go: Someone say video? Yeah, they have one, and it looks killer, and you can see it on their Yelp page, and you should tell them you watched it!

How this place has more than 2 stars AMAZES me. But upon reading most of the reviews, now I see why. Sushi virgins! The nigiri(red snapper, scallop and one other I can't remember) was AWFUL!!!! Stringy and hard to chew when it should be like biting through butter and flavorful, not foul. I couldn't believe they served us such an embarrassing excuse for fresh fish. Next came the rolls. Again, inedible and a complete waste. We had an eel roll and, again, something so unmemorable I can't even remember. I guess Bushi is under new management so they offered 10% off, but we had to ASK for it, even though the sign clearly states 10% off. They seriously brought us our tab and when we asked why we didn't receive the discount, we were told "because you have to ask for it." The service was claustrophobic. There is a BIG difference between being attentive and being overbearing. We received the latter. Whilst attempting to have a very serious conversation, the hubby and I were constantly bombarded by the hovering hen matron. Sweet but annoying. We never stray from Kazoku, now I know why. I don't know why we decided to that night but we will never be back.

Definitely surprised at how good this place was! Not trying to be pessimistic or anything, but from the outside, this place looks TORE UP! Well, it's not that bad. But once inside, you are welcomed my modern and sleek decor reminiscent of a lounge or maybe a nightclub. I like :) The sushi was fantastic. I tried the spicy tuna roll and a sweet potato roll. Boring, I know, but I prefer "simpler" rolls instead of the mayo-laden tempura-fried stuff. The spicy tuna was great, but then again this is not a roll you can exactly mess up. The freshness, though, stood out. I love sweet potato so my other roll was a winner as well. The boyfriend who is not really into the spud, was surprised at how enjoyable it was. It is lightly fried, but not overbearingly so. The dish we had was just meh. The shrimp curry dish could have used more shrimp and the curry sauce was more "creamy" than "curried." Maybe we'll have better luck with other dishes. And yes, they give coffee at the end. Nothing spectacular but a really nice touch I can appreciate.

Friendly service, good quality fish, decent portion sizes, reasonable prices, no long waits. After several recommendations to try this place out I finally did, I was never too impressed with the outside appearance but they definitely keep up with the interior of the restaurant. I had lunch here with about 8 friends we all ordered a starter and several rolls the staff was able to handle us with out a long wait as I have experienced at other sushi places when eating with large groups. The server was extremely friendly and made us all feel at home. I ordered the 20 piece sashimi plate and the fish was very fresh and tasted delicious. As the old saying goes you can't judge a book by it's cover and this is one book that didn't let me down from start to finish.

I really like this place. It's my go-to sushi restaurant these days. Yeah, the outside is nothing special, but inside it's clean and modern. I've had the Vegas, Steve-O, Mexican, sweet potato, and crunch rolls (plus some others I've forgotten) - all good. The meal comes with edemame and miso soup. The service is fast and friendly, the rolls are fresh, and it's affordably priced - works for me.

My friend and I were looking for a local sushi place and Bushi came up. We walked in and from the first step in we knew that we had chosen the right place. I think Bushi is family run, and everyone from the grandmother to the granddaughter were so wonderful! They greeted us, checked on us the time, always had a smile on their face -basically made us feel at home. Their service alone was stellar, but the food was delicious. I'm from LA so I was a little skeptical about sushi in Tucson, but everything tasted fresh and you could tell that a lot of time was spent on presentation. All in all, we'll definitely go back...again...and again. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone in Tucson looking for some sushi by a really friendly family.

I usually eat at Bushi for lunch at least once a week. I always order the Teriyaki with Sashimi lunch box. Fish prepared by Sushi Chef Lee is always fresh tasting. Linda, the server is always friendly and attentive. Thank you!

We've been back to Bushi several times now since Yelp's Under the Sea event and it gets better and better. We're totally addicted to the Bushi-vichi appetizer (whitefish, scallops, shrimp & salmon in a vinagrette served beautifully in a large martini glass) AND it's part of their happy hour specials, along with several fruit flavored margaritas & other appetizers. After being seating by the friendly staff & waved at by the two resident sushi chefs, you are immediately brought (unsalted) edamame and miso soup. Our list visit, we ordered the dragon roll, Woohoo cakes (also on the happy hour specials), fried gyozas and a fruity dessert that I can't recall the name of, but it was fresh kiwi, orange & pineapple served with granola & whip cream & chocolate sauce in a sundae cup. At the end of the meal they bring you a tiny cup (at first we thought it was hot sake) of slightly sweet coffee that is delicious and finishes the meal off on a nice note. Service is always quick & friendly and they take custom orders with no problem (strawberry allergies, no cucumber in the sushi rolls etc). Food presentation is gorgeous with nearly every plate decorated with fresh orchids or greenery. The seating area is spotless and cleanly styled with booths, tables and seating at the sushi bar. We're very glad to have found this place (thanks to the Yelp event) and look forward to enjoying it often.

I picked up some to-go food for lunch today from Bushi as part of a "Living Social" certificate. I am tempted to call Living Social because when I bought the certificate, there was no mention of an 18% gratuity that would be tacked onto the check, at least none that I noticed. Apparently it's in the "fine print." This added on 18% gratuity felt like a scam, and applied even for to-go orders! Regardless of how bad the food was (and it was awful), paying 18% gratuity for a to-go order was enough to make me decide never return to Bushi. When you pull up, the whole outside of the building is chipped & flaking stucco. The parking lot was empty, and it almost looks from the outside like a restaurant that went out of business. Inside wasn't much better, dark and dismal. You would think for the prices they charge, they should have a much more attractive restaurant in a higher rent shopping center. I had the lunch salmon teriyaki and a spider roll. The salmon was rubbery, super salty, and no more than a two ounce portion. The vegetables that came with the salmon must have had MSG, as I got an MSG headache. I should have asked, but one assumes that MSG isn't used in a Japanese restaurant. The spider roll looked and tasted like a dead spider, (I ate one bite of it and it was so horrible I threw it away). But spider roll is a fitting name for it. It consisted of some half rotten avocado, soft shell crab that could have been petrified, and a few random veggies thrown in. What a horrible meal. The only redeeming part of the lunch was the small side salad, as the dressing was flavorful. But it's hard to mess up a plain lettuce salad. My lunch cost $20.96 including the 18% gratuity, and not including a beverage. I've had better sushi from a grocery store! It wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't feel that they totally fleeced me. I wish I could say something nice about this place. Save your money, and if you want to spend it on a good sushi restaurant try Ra or Sushi on Oracle. If the owners truly value feedback, how about this: stop fleecing people, clean up your building (inside and out), improve the quality of your food, and maybe then you can develop a repeat clientele so you don't have to add 18% onto every check to stay in business.

I'm rooting for you Bushi but sticking with a solid 3 star rating. I absolutely appreciate the willingness of the owners to take feedback seriously. They really do care about their customers. There was definitely an improvement in the service and timing of the food delivery in comparison to my last reviewed visit. Service could still be more attentive though. I'd like to have my water glass refilled just before it's empty rather than 10 minutes after it goes empty. I was really looking forward to the fusion style offerings of items such as the Mexican roll and super white tuna appetizer. Unfortunately, they fell flat this time around. Apparently the jalapenos went AWOL as I couldn't taste them at all. I did see some of the tiniest, thinnest slices of jalapeno ever on the super white appetizers. Though this exhibited some good knife skills I would prefer to actually be able to taste them. The Mexican roll was missing any kind of spice at all. I wouldn't have had any idea that it was "Mexican" if the name didn't indicate it. On the plus side my couple of pieces of Nigiri (yellowtail and tuna) were good and fresh.

Probably the best sushi i have ever had. hands down. Had a new server who was clearly new, not a big deal, she was still very attentive and still learning. Definitely a cute restaurant with a good, fun feel and it's not too classy or too casual. and going on a Sunday night, it wasn't busy at all. probably three or four other tables. We ordered the garlic parmesan wings and the sauce was absolutely amazing, we even put sriracha on them and they were even better! we also ordered the mexican roll, the greek roll and toro sashimi. The toro sashimi and mexican roll were delicious. Not too thrilled about the greek roll, it may have been the sundried tomatoes with the goat cheese, but it was still appetizing. The mexican roll was deep fried and it probably would have been just as good if it wasn't fried. And the after dinner taster of the yirgacheffe coffee made the dinner even better. I don't even drink coffee or like coffee much but this was amazing. If you're a coffee lover i recommend buying it here! you'll love it! Definitely a fave of Tucson for me. I'll definitely be coming here more!

This would definitely be 4-star sushi, if it weren't for the price. I really, really like sushi. That said, I'm not even terribly picky. Bushi Sushi is definitely good. I really like the location, the atmosphere, and for sure the food. A good 'ol Rainbow Roll and I'm a happy, happy girl. BUT... I do feel like there are other really good sushi places around that don't chart $11 for said Rainbow Roll. OR, at least offer some rolls on their happy hour menu, so that I can save a couple bucks if I'd like to. I was disappointed in the price and the happy hour options. For a good sushi place, it was sadly quiet when I was there, and I think these may be some of the reasons why. It certainly isn't the quality (yum), the people (super nice) or the atmosphere (casual but still very nice).

Having been a long time fan of Bushi's former incarnation I was curious to see what had changed besides the name. On a recent visit to Tucson I decided to stop in for lunch. The decor has been updated, giving a subtly classy vibe. Service was both friendly and efficient. But what about the food you ask? The food was great. Between three adults and one fussy teenager we split crab puffs, a few rolls, some sashimi and a chicken entree. The quality was excellent, and the smoked salmon in particular was delicious. The prices are a bit steeper now, but completely reasonable for the quality of food. I'm sure that whenever I'm in town I'll be stopping by for some lunch.

Went here one Sunday for lunch with a whole slew of friends. We used a Groupon for half the table and a Restaurant.com gift cert for the other half; they were nice and accommodating of our cheap college student antics. The dishes here are solid, and I think most everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I myself got a boring old chicken tonkatsu lunch combo. A one-entree lunch combo was $6 and a two-entree, $10. Incredibly filling as it also come with edamame, miso soup, their house salad, and orange slices. They threw in a cute cup of exotic coffee, something that you definitely don't expect from a Japanese restaurant. All in all, a great place to have lunch. Recommends.

It was a few months ago when I bought a Groupon for this place, and I am so glad I did! I've driven past this restaurant many-o-times, and I had never wanted to walk in. The outside looks rather...beaten up. At times, I didn't even know if it were still a functioning restaurant. So, I was absolutely impressed when I walked in the door and realized it was very nice on the inside! The interior was chic and modern. It was quiet and the Japanese sushi chefs behind the sushi bar were dressed professionally, in their chef attire and hats. Not only did the interior pleasantly surprise me, but also the dishes. We started off with the Super White Tuna, which was five slices of super white tuna (go figure), covered in a light ponzu sauce and topped with caviar. Absolutely delicious: refreshing tartness from the citrus juice and a bit of saltiness from the caviar. Great pairing. Then we ordered some sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The fish was all very fresh, quite obviously a few notches above the all-you-can-eat sushi places. Don't get me wrong, when I want to get my sushi on, I go to those places for a deal, but when you want to find a good quality piece of raw fish, you go to places like Bushi. One thing kept me from giving this place all five stars: prices. The prices were a bit steep for how much food we had. Our Groupon certainly helped off-set some things, but this is not a place for someone who is on a low-budget. Although, if you are trying to impress a date (make sure he/she is someone who likes raw fish), this wouldn't be a bad place at all. At the end of our meal, our waitress served us a beverage. The know-it-all me assumed that she was walking over with green tea. You know, it helps digestion, yada yada yada, but once again, this place surprised me. It was coffee...COFFEE! It was actually just what the doctor ordered. It saved me from the immediate food coma. The waitress explained that the coffee was roasted by a local shop, and that the hint of citrus in the coffee is perfect to end a meal of sushi. I was impressed. I love how they buy from another local business. I also loved the coffee, especially with the Andes mint they gave me. So, the moral/cliché of this story is: Don't judge a book by its cover. Go get some sushi from Bushi.

I bought a groupon for this place months ago and finally had an opportunity to use it. A bunch of friends and I came here for lunch, which is both very affordable and filling. We all ordered from their lunch menu. A $6 single-entree meal with rice will leave you very full because it comes with edamame, miso soup, salad, as well as orange slices for dessert, a coffee sample, and chocolate mints. They also have various specials on certain days of the week and on UA game days. Service here was friendly and the food came very quickly. Although this is a Japanese restaurant, they also serve bulgogi, which my friend declared as excellent.

I was thinking 4-star with the chance of 5 upon subsequent visits. But you know, this place was good enough that I will go 5 and detract IF they ever show me otherwise. I mean, that is the happiness talking--the happiness left in the wake of a truly wonderful sushi lunch. The place is clean and fairly modern in feel. Staff was friendly and helpful without being overburdening. Pluses in a dining experience in my book. Nice, if not overly-memorable miso and edamame are produced complimentary before your ordered meal is even placed (that order, by the way, is made on a laminated sushi menu so there's no more pile of old orders to throw in the garbage). The edamame, not usually one of my favorites were actually quite tasty. The chefs produced nicely cut samples of sashimi on the chef's lunch-special pick of four types (three pieces for each). Their take on an eel roll was nicely presented. Minimal rice left more room for the other ingredients in the rolls. The surf clam nigiri (two pieces to the order) was a little tougher than I've had, but still good. But the best was yet to come. Speaking with another patron at the bar, I was immediately persuaded to order one more roll--the Hawaiian. This one is a must try!! Just look at the photo for a description better than my words can give. The tuna, rubbed with blackened seasonings blended wonderfully with the cream cheese. The pineapple was the perfect sweet compliment to the spicy jalapeno. And all this wrapped in pink soy paper. So pretty you almost don't want to eat it. But that first bite tells that the looks are decidedly not deceiving. Delicious!! I look forward to my next visit, where I will try the Greek Roll, and what was reported as "the best shrimp tempura hand roll" to be had in the Old Pueblo. As an attempt to wrap this up even nearly as nicely as that pink-colored heavenly roll I can still taste--if you're in the mood for sushi, give this place a try. One of the better offerings I've had in a while.

Great find,. It is quiet, service is solid, food is great but a little pricey. Happy hour prices on sushi and drinks, portions for entrees are large. 5 stars for the good noice level unlike other larger sushi places in town.

Recommends.

We'll definitely come back again!

this place is such a find! can't believe I haven't tried it before! the place is super clean, nicely decorated, and the waitress was the nicest person!

Two friends and I ate here 45 minutes before closing but the service was still incredible. They even gave us complimentary appetizers. On top of that the food was great.

Very nice staff, EXCELLENT SUSHI! The atmosphere is very nice inside; everything looks new and very clean. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but give it a chance nonetheless, you'll love your experience! Best sushi I've had in a while, and I come from a big city.
