Great service, food was amazing. Carmelo pastor was the best I've ever had. Hot dogs with everything is the way to go. Wish j had one by the house and not hours away.

I boosted an extra star cuz there were several negative reviews that seemed a bit unfair. I found it very clean. The staff was friendly and responsive. I LOVED the salsa bar - it is Epic, the best I have ever been to. It is all free to put on your food - great salsa mixed with guac,, a nice range of salsas, tiny cheeses, tiny lettuce, and lots more to choose from. The tiny lettuce and cheese was very unusual. I had a carne asada soft taco. Generousness portion of meat. The flavor was okay and a couple of tough chunks in there - but hey you drown it at the Salsa Bar. Okay I did try another Sonoran Hot Dog and this is the best one yet. The hot dog was smoke grilled. Next time I will ask if I can get a chorizo instead just for added flavor. I also want to try some other items off the menu including the cheesecake or flan. The place was very clean like I said. I will be back .........

I have experienced numerous Sonoran hotdogs around Tucson. BK Carne Asada and Hotdogs is by far the best in Tucson. Carne Asada, Sonoran Hotdogs.....that have a wonderful salsa bar different types of salsa, Guacamole etc. However....BY FAR....the best item is the Sonoran Hotdog. Amazing. Staff are very polite and helpful, and you don't feel like your bothering hem.....they are excited to serve you and stand behind their food. I will MISS this unique aspect of Tucson. I think I may have one more before I go.

Legit tacos, carne asada, hot dogs, and more. Its just great food. No need to say more.

Succulent bacon wrapped Sonoran hotdogs in a fluffy bun loaded with cream sauce, beans, cheese, and a pico de gallo salsa, throw in a nicely toasted chile guerito (lightly salted) and you're in heaven! Seriously, this place rocks, as a comparison we tried out Guero Cannelo and that place is nothing compared to BK!

Definitely my go-to place for tacos, burros, y Sonoran hot dogs. I always take family and friends from out of town to BK. The salsa bar always tastes fresh and I especially love their guacamole. A little tip: This location doesn't sell Micheladas, however -- the location on 1st Avenue does.

Great Food. BK Carne Asada and Hotdogs is great. The location is awkard for U of A student, but who cares. Great place to hang out with friends.

I am a regular of "that other" Sonoran dog place across the street. I decided to give BK a shot.... The sonoran dog showdown results Bun - I think goes to EGC by a slight margin Bacon - hands down better flavor from BK Dog - no weiner winner TIE included toppings - nobody out on top TIE Salsa bar - all you can shovel guac.... beats grilled. onions anyday in my book.... BK Price - EGC by a tiny margin....but hey guacamole ain't .cheap So in conclusion they are both excellent and the only thing that would sway me other than which direction I am heading (I hate making a left turn into a parking lot if I can avoid it) is if I want a pound of guacamole with my dog or not. Enjoy... I did!!

Amazing Carne Asada!!! Tortillas are super tasty!!! Atmosphere is lively and comfortable. Carne Asada Burritos are a must!!!

  • Michelle G.

About twice a year I get an uncontrollable craving for a Sonoran hotdog, when the craving hits we head all the way across town to BK's. They are the best in Tucson. The caramelos are awesome and should not be overlooked. They have an array of fresh salsas and veggies at the salsa bar. If you are intrigued to try an authentic Sonoran hotdog you must give them a try!

  • Cristina R.

You need to get a michelada ! They really are one of the best ones I have had! The sonoran hotdogs are great! But I really like their salsa bar complete with cucbers and cebollitas , delicious! The asada burritos are really good too, I add some salsa and lettuce on top alongo with pico de gallo salsa.

  • Dale P.

Go to this BKs. None of that weird sit-down waiter stuff. Carmelos are the way to go!

Best hot dogs in the city, right in the middle of the good, love everything about this place.

  • Cat R.

I'm from California and my Arizona born friend recommended this place. The tacos were delicious and reasonably priced. I'd go back.

  • Scott V.

Very tasty carne asada tacos and also got the Sonoran dog. Both were great! I especially loved the garnish bar where they had several different salsa types, fine chopped lettuce, pico, etc.

    (4)
  • Mercedes Z.

The carne Asada burrito is so good! Also, can't go wrong with a torta as well. Seems like they've also remodeled the place making it more indoors than out, with the exception of the grill where they make the Sonoran dogs.

  • Isaac V.

Wonderful fusion food. My family all got the three tacos and a drink with both chicken and beef. Garnish bar is incredible! Everyone was very satisfied with the food. Completely unexpected from the look on the outside and we'll be sure to return.

  • Ericka G.

Yummy. Definitely something to try if in the area. You won't be disappointed. Get the Sonora Hotdog... Don't forget now!

Food is great. Tried tacos and hot dogs. The cheese and ham stuffed peppers were outstanding. The service was really good.

Great toppings bar for you to add to almost any item you order. Inexpensive and great flavor.

BK doesn't look like much from the outside. You could drive by on S. 12th and not even realize that it is a taqueria, much less one selling some of the best Sonoran hotdogs and carne asada in Tucson. The salsa bar, as so many reviewers have noted, is pretty darn good in its own right, with a great selection of salsas and condiments. I suspect that if I was ever short of cash, I could make a decent meal out of a single taco and the fixings from that salsa bar. Eat outside or in. Its casual either way. I prefer the outside, except when its cold or the wind is blowing at hurricane strength. That way you can watch the traffic on 12th and smell the 'dogs cooking. Service is friendly and efficient. Order at the window and wait for your number to be called. It never takes long. And the food is consistently top notch. BK leaves the Cinnamon Blonde (AKA Guero Canelo) in the dust.

  • Christopher C.

Still the best place around. They don't have a lot of bells and whistles in the menu but they have THE BEST salsa bar. Smoked meat. Sonoran dogs. Now they enclosed the outside patio so they have more than doubles the indoor area. It is by far much nicer and more comfortable. I hadn't been in awhile. The salsa bar is better. They added some items like cheese that I don't think was there before. So don't add cheese to anything if the cheese is free on the bar! Prices are fair for the amount and quality. Did I mention the salsa bar? Don't miss this place.

Saw it on tv some where. Traveling thru and wanted to try it. Got a Asada burro ! Meat was smokey and tender and the tortillas were excellent! My 5. Year old had the Asada tacos with the creamy tomatillo sauce . She said they were really yummy!!!

After a supposed airport-8pm-pickup-time turned into a 9:30pm ETA, our hunger and patience got the best of us. Time to find some late-night eats and calm our nerves. The atmosphere confused me at first. I love how lively it is but I guess I associate neon lights, awnings, and crackly PA systems with places like Sonic Drive-In, not taco-kick-assery. Well shame on me for judging a book by its cover. I'm glad I just put those first impressions aside and plowed forth to the ordering counter. I should preface by saying that hotdogs are not my thing, but carne asada tacos are. Especially ones with juicy meat and grilled onions and mountains of fresh salsa and veggies like radishes and pickled cabbage. Especially ones on fresh tortillas. Especially those at BK. The carne asada is great but so is the pastor which has an almost Indian spice flavoring to it - lots of cumin - succulent. The chicken is good, too, tender and moist - though not a lot of grill or marinade action. Solid food. Efficient service. Economic prices. I'm one satisfied carnivore.

  • Joel L.

I felt this place is pretty over-hyped. The hot dogs can be made at home. The buns seemed old and bought at the grocery store a week ago, the ingredients were so so fresh. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way. The best part is the TV that was playing music videos.

    (3)
  • Martina T.

I love this place and the Bud light Michiladas are the best in town! If you ever travel to Tucson and want a cheap place to eat at with great food you must eat here!

  • Jennifer L.

Need a late night, something to soak up your evening of excess? A Sonoran dog or caramelo (quesadilla with your choice of meat) will do the trick from this place. Open after bar hours and almost always hopping. Did notice the prices have gone up (2.99 hot dogs), especially since all the publicity from Food Wars (a well deserved victory against Guero Canelo) and Food Network, but still a pretty good deal for fast food. Their salsa bar offers lots of salsas and toppings for your food picks. Cucumber slices, limes and green creamy sauce (gotta look in the little cart by the hotdogs for the sauce) are a delicious accompaniment. Don't forget a Manzanita Sol (apple soda) to wash it all down! Oh and please remember to recycle your soda bottle in the crates by the exit.

  • Raven B.

I was on a layover here couple weeks back &the Capt. mentioned this place was on Food Wars, so I was definitely down to try. The Sonoran style hotdog really good. The mixture of flavors - beans, mayo, tomatoes, onions, pepper - was excellent. And the bread was so warm and soft. BUT I thought Sonoran style hotdogs were wrapped in bacon? No bacon on mine *sad face* The carne asada was really good too. And as mentioned by other reviewers, the service was quick, prices are good, and the salsa bar is top notch (if there is such a category).

  • N M.

Enjoyed. New experience for us. Had hot dog & hamburger. Hot dog was perfect, hamburger a bit over cooked. Fries, once again, perfect. Atmosphere & vibe we got when we went in was very upbeat. They get people in & out fast if that is what you want. Very clean & bright.

I've been in Tucson for 2+ months now, and this was the first time I came to BK's? Shame on me! I won't lie-- I was a little taken aback when I pulled up. A food cart out front, interesting "decor" outside... I almost turned around. Shame on me! I walked up and ordered and was immediately thanked for coming when I mentioned I hadn't been there before-- nice touch. This was also the first time I had a Sonoran hot dog in my life; shame on m--- okay, I'll cool it with that. All I have to say...amazing. --Carne Asada Taco ($1.50): Phenomenal flour tortilla. So hot, fresh, and homemade. The meat had a delicious, slightly smoky taste to it. Served plain, there is a huge bar to add toppings to your liking! I repeat: HUGE CONDIMENT BAR. I would definitely get this tasty taco again! Sonoran Hot Dog ($2.50): Confused, I didn't realize that I was to pick this up at the aforementioned food stand. All I had heard this summer was how my stay here in Tucson would not be complete without tasting a Sonoran hot dog. How good could it be? It honestly didn't even sound that great- beans, onion, tomato, mustard, mayonnaise, and...bacon. Okaaaay, just FYI, I'm a bacon fiend. Nommmm. So I thought that bacon alone would save this concoction. Um, wrong again. The different toppings on this hot dog were absolutely bursting with flavor and mixed together so well. Tangy, salty, slightly spicy, I couldn't devour it fast enough. Bonus: the bun seemed homemade and was the best hot dog bun I've ever had. Ever. Well, of course I was left thirsty. Some women at another table had bottles of Coke. I knew it had to be some picked up from Mexico/imported, and, from experience, I think that they taste way better than the Coke in the U.S. I immediately went to the window to order one. Perfect ending to a delicious and inexpensive meal!

Wow! These are some of the best tacos I've ever had anywhere--and I've lived in Mexico. No hype, no pretensions just friendly service and fabulous tacos.

  • J U.

This place is amazing and exceeded our expectations. Hands down the best carne asana and Sonoran hot dogs we've ever had. And they have a really nice salsa bar with limes, salsas, cucumbers and guacamole for toppings. Service is great and the place is spotless.

  • Dolores G.

While I have yet to try their Sonoran Style Hotdogs I can tell you that they have some of THE BEST, MOST FLAVORFUL Carne Asada. I have enjoyed their main competitors food more than once as well and I would come here for the CA. I have tried it in all forms offered here (Tacos, Tortas, Burritos....Tortas being my favorite.) They have 2 salsa bars filled with several quality salsas, limes, cucumbers, veggies etc. They offer Combo type meals that include drinks as well as a-la-carte. The prices are reasonable and the service is quick relative to the crowd. You can dine in (indoor and patio) or carry out.

  • Raymond P.

Purposely road-tripped out here sometime last year [w/ the whale of an ex-gf] after hearing all the hype on the food channel between this place and El Guero. Long story short: -overhyped!- The wait for one of their bacon wrapped dogs took pretty long and they weren't even that busy. I've gotten better BCHD's from street vendors outside of Hollywood and Downtown LA bars/nightclubs. I would still recommend it to people just for the sheer novelty of having visited a place featured on the food network.

Killer Sonoran dogs. It will NEVER be PINKS in Los Angeles... but, PINKS will never be BK either. Wonderful ambience... loud music... lots of variety. LOW LOW Prices.

  • Elvis J.

Had this for the first time when I was down in Tucson for business. I have had just about every concoction you can make with a hot dog but the Sonoran Hotdog is truly the most tasty and fun one I have ever had. I was also very happy with the facility. Very clean and very quick with the order. I will definitely be back whenever I am in town again!

  • Brooke M.

Came here for a Sonora dog for the Mr. (which he said was great) and had the most delicious vegan torta (not on the menu but just ask) mushrooms, grilled and raw onions, avocado, lettuce, tomato, etc on a tasty torta roll. Yum! Plus everyone working here was so nice and helpful. Almost forgot to add...great salsa bar.

  • Alicia W.

You have got to try a Sonoran Hot Dog! Seriously, very good!

    (4)
  • J R.

Definitely my favorite place for tacos. Fresh tortillas, flavorful meat, homemade salsas.. 10x better then their "competitor" across the street. I forgot their name after i tasted the food lol.. anyway... I travel all over and always compare the local tacos to BK back in Tucson.

  • The S.

Went there on a Friday evening and tried this place. Busy and there was a line and I figured the food must be really great if it's this popular. Got the Sonoran dog and carne asada tacos. I expected bliss but, it wasn't as grand as people made it to be. It was good, but not great and mouth watering. THe only mouth watering item I enjoyed was the mexican coke. I can honestly say that I probably won't go back as there are some food carts that have better sonoran dogs.

    (3)
  • Tiffany V.

There is no other competition in my opinion. All food here is delectable. Best Sonoran hot dogs!

    (5)
  • Bill R.

Best hot dog I've ever had. Chicago and New York dogs are good but the Sonoran style hot dogs make my mouth water. A small frank wrapped in bacon nestled in the softest, moist white bread bun, topped with beans, tomatoes, drizzled mayonnaise, shredded cheese and a creamy guacamole sauce. Topped off with a roasted jalapeno ...I need one of these dogs. Maybe three.

    (5)

Damn fine Sonoran dogs. Lots of fixin's too! Love the hot dog statue and the food cart on the porch.

We drove by here trying to find the infamous hot dog spot down the street but it was already closed. So we turned around to scope this place out since it looked lively when we drove by. Upon arrival, the place was packed. There were drunks that looked like they just came from clubs, families that probably just left a quincinera, and even a drunken cowboy with a freakish looking black cat (that looked like he was electrocuted) on his shoulder dancing and singing in the parking lot. Wow, reminds me of King Taco in East LA at 3am on a Saturday night. I used to be one of those drunks in my old partying days so I wasn't really intimidated but for others I can see that it can be. I was craving a Sonoran dog, so I ordered that. The BF had a Chicken Torta. I also ordered a Carne Asada Caramelo to share because I was curious and never heard of it before. Sonoran Dog, ehh... Chicken Torta... slightly above average. Good bread. Asada Caramelo... Yum! So freakin' good! Two tortillas with melted jack cheese and carne asada in between and crisp up on both sides. The carne asada was really tasty with a hint of lime just the way I like it. Now, if we would have got the torta with asada it would have been way above average. There was also a condiment bar with 5-6 different types of salsa, cucumbers, guacamole with cottage cheese, onions and cilantro to garnish to your liking. We liked the Caramelo so much that we agreed we would stop by for lunch before our trip to Sierra Vista in a couple days... Fast forward two days... What a long two days it was. We came here for lunch on a Sunday morning/afternoon. The scene was definitely different. Seemed like a whole different restaurant. There was lots of families with little kids and different ethnic backgrounds. The other night I was the only non-hispanic there. We shared a carne asada burrito, a Pastor torta, and a Carne Asada Caramelo (large one this time). Yum, yum, yum... Caramelo was as good as I remembered. The pastor torta and asada burrito was also tasty. We ate til we were put into a food coma. It was that good. This is probably one of my favorite mexican restaurants ever. Only second to my beloved King Taco (LA chain).

Thought this was a BK Lounge at first, but nope, it's actually a Mexican joint instead. I wasn't overly impressed with the food they had here. Nothing was terrible, but at the same time, nothing was really stellar either. Nothing really struck me as being memorable or extraordinary. I also asked for a refill and they just took my drink and didn't do anything with it. Five minutes later, I went up to the counter and saw my empty cup just sitting there. No bueno.

  • Aletheia W.

i.... think i need to conduct a side-by-side comparison of the sonoran dogs at bk vs. el guero. and then have a small heart attack. they are BOTH delectable. i do like having table service at bk. that's nice. and i think i love the salsa bar MORE at bk. but... and please don't shoot me.... they are kinda similar, and both good. so as of today, i am undecided as to who is the winner of "the best sonoran dog." bk has GREAT carne asada. so good. and i think it's got a great price point! sonoran dog was about $2.75? and a small caramelo with hongos (mushrooms) was $4. nice.

  • Sergio S.

I concede the rave reviews! I went to Güero Canelo first, but then a friend brought me here and I regretted going to Güero. Don't be suckered in by Güero's colorful advertisement--BK is where it's at! I ate entirely too much when here, but regretted nothing when it was all said and done. The Sonoran Hot Dogs here are grade A flavorful and bad for you! Bad meaning delicious! Also, as someone else noted--they give you a yellow pepper with the Hot Dog, which makes it a heavenly affair. The seating environment here is not piñata-like the way el Güero is, but suits the eating adventure just fine. The Cabeza tacos here are o.k., passable, decent, but where is the wow? It's in the Adobados! Mmmmmmm beautimous adobados. Hit em' with your favorite condiment at the condiment station and you are home free. Viva BK!! The Caramelos, which are a first for me, are equally delicious. I'd still like to explore more Sonoran places in the are, but for now--BK is my top Dog!

  • Toni S.

We always stop here on our way to/from El Paso! Their carne asada is so amazing & who would have thought hot dogs wrapped in Bacon and topped with mayo would be good but its delicious! Kinda strange looking place when you drive by but its well worth the stop!

  • James V.

Sonoran Hot Dogs... are you friggin' kidding me??? This place is completely legit all the way around, with that crazy tent out front and the guy working the grill. I was confused at first when I got my carne asada soft taco (yum yum) from the order window but no dog. The dude pointed across the seating area toward some guy working a grill, which is where you go to get the dog. You can't mess up a sonoran hot dog when you wrap it with bacon, throw in grilled onion, then top it with mustard, mayo, and some crazy relish, all dropped into a slit cut in the center of a bun. Just do it, then add your own review. It was two days ago and I am still salivating. Side note: I asked one of my fellow crew chiefs if he has visited the place. His response... "Dude, I am friggin' Mexican. What do you think". Yea, I guess I didn't consider that of course he would have been to one of the best spots in Tucon!

We first heard about BK Hotdogs from Food Wars. We're Food TV junkies and loved the concept of two places that serve similar food going head-to-head with a blindfolded taste test! We opted to try BK Hot Dogs after we tried El Guero Canelo. We wanted to give El Guero that lucky spot since they lost to BK. I will rate each location equally; first, I'll cover location and service and then break down each ingredient of a Sonoran Hot Dog. Location: (B) This location is much more appealing to the eye. I love the awning, as well as how clean it was. All the tables were spotless. The menu was easy to navigate, as well. The salsa bar is convenient and it looks extremely delicious -- so much so that I took a bunch of salsa to go for the road trip back to Texas! My only complaint is the location of the hot dog stand. When I placed my order, they did not tell me where to pick it up. When I went to the counter, I was sent back to the hot dog stand. I should've known, but I was too busy playing with salsa and reading all the menu items -- I never even noticed the hot dog stand in the back! Service (A) The service was quick, but still very friendly. The lovely lady that helped us said hello and smiled. She thanked us for our order, as well. Overall, I was very pleased. Food: Sonoran hot dogs, at their core, have the following ingredients: bacon-wrapped hot dog in a soft, Mexican roll topped with pinto beans, chopped tomatoes, onions, jalapeno sauce, mayonnaise and mustard. Beyond that, I've seen numerous variations. You can add chips, cheese, avocado, ketchup and more! I tried a Sonoran dog with the beans, tomatoes, onions, jalapeno sauce and mustard. I'm not a mayonnaise fan -- it's just not gonna happen! Bread (A) This bread was delicious. It was sweet, flavorful. It was a perfect addition to all the flavors of the Sonoran Hot Dog. It looks like it would be flimsy, but it wasn't. It melted in your mouth. So, why didn't it get an A+? My main issue is the color -- the bread doesn't LOOK appealing and a lot of eating starts with the eyes. Hot Dog Wrapped in Bacon (B+) This hot dog was delicious. The bacon was crisp, the hot dog was crisp. But, it was considerably smaller than their competitors, even though BK is more expensive. If the hot dog tasted better than the competitors, I'd understand the higher cost, but they don't. They aren't bad by any means, but they aren't better. Pinto Beans (A) These pinto beans have a lot of flavor. They weren't too hard, either. They added some spice to the hot dog, so they must be cooked with peppers. Tomatoes (A) Perfectly diced and proportioned. They have a cooling effect over the saltiness of the hot dog and the spiciness of the beans and jalapeno sauce. Onions (B+) These onions were perfectly grilled and cut. They must be grilled in or near the hot dog fat, because they were caramelized beautifully. My only complaint is portion -- I think there needs to be more onions to counter-balance the rest of the ingredients. Jalapeno sauce (B+) This jalapeno sauce has a great flavor, but not enough kick. That being said, I'll take great flavor over arbitrary spice. Mustard (A) Standard yellow mustard. Delicious. Overall: Restaurant: A-/B+ Sonoran Dog: Between an A- and A, but leaning toward an A. Total: A- (Which means -- pretty darn good!)

Love this place. Cheap. Delicious. What else do you need? On the plus side it throws el guero canelo out of the water.

  • Barnabas L.

Best sonoran food in Tucson, hands down, bar none. I love this place, Guerro canelo cannot compare (except with the salsa bar). This is a great place to sit down with some friends, go with some business buddies or just fulfill a craving. When I go I ALWAYS get a Sonoran Hot Dog, Pastor (pork) Carmelo, Pastor Torta. Depending on what you get is how much it costs obviously, If you are a small eater it is easily less than 10. When i go i spend around 13 after tax and tip. I never have gotten anything else because that is soo good! The food is never overly salty like they are trying to hide something bad about the meat. My mouth waters when i think about eating there, such great food and the food doesn't take long to come out. THEY HAVE HAPPY HOUR FOR BEER! for all you drinkers out there. The servers are nice and always are happy and ready to do their job above and beyond. If i could eat there for free i would eat there every day, but money doesn't grow on trees.

Yum! If you are flying in to Tucson do yourself a favor and drive down 12th avenue and get a Sonoran Dog and a Taco or Carmelo to begin your flavorful Tucson adventure. The Sonoran Dogs and Carmelo at BK are both fantastic as well as the salsa bar and the misting system during the 110 degree days. The Sonoran Dog has better bacon flavor than a certain location down the street (both places are awesome though!) and it is topped with plenty of fresh tomatoes and onions on a delicious bun. The Carmelo is piled with meat on a very tasty tortilla and the salsa bar allows for extensive and tasty customization options. Overall: Awesome Sonoran Dogs Extensive Salsa Bar of Tastiness

I love this place. I wish we had dueling Sonoran Hot Dog joints in Phoenix. Heck, I wish we had any decent Sonoran Hot Dog in Phoenix. I grew up in Detroit, and in downtown Detroit there is a Lafayette Coney Island right next to American Coney Island. If you look inside the window, the Greek guy will waive you inside. If you wait too long, they'll come outside with a knife and drag you. So BK and Guero Conelo remind me of my hometown. Now I prefer Guero just because I like their overall menu better. As far as the dog's, they're both good. BK's a more "authentic" in my opinion, but I like them both equally. Come in to Phoenix and open up please.

  • Miguel A.

BK hot dogs is great on serving their variety of delish dishes on the go and during cold nights you will devour your entree inside an enclosed dining area which makes eating hot dogs alot more comfortable, but that fifth star goes to street vendors hot dog stands who prep their specialty sonoran hot dogs uniquely.

    (4)
  • Todd L.

Sonoran Dogs. Life Changing. Genius. I need one right now. There is nowhere else in the world that makes them like BK's. I've had them at GC's and on various street carts around San Fran and elsewhere and they just don't compare. I dream about this place.

  • Kenye N.

If you think it's rather strange that somebody has a "hot dog joint" on their list of favorite restaurants, you've probably never been to BK. This place goes far beyond hot dogs though, doing tacos, burros, caramelos, tortas, and even hamburgers! All are fantastic! This is a must-visit place if you are visiting Tucson, or trying to show friends a unique Tucson experience. There really isn't a whole lot I can say about this place that other positive reviewers haven't. Addressing the negative reviews about the tacos "coming plain", look around! They have a taco bar full of goodies to garnish your "plain taco." My "normal" order consists of a large Asada Caramelo, and a Sonoran Style Hot Dog or two (depending on how fat I'm feeling.) The caramelos are literally to die for, and are surprisingly my favorite thing on the menu. If you're in the taco mood, I recommend trying the tri-fecta of pastor (pork), pollo (chicken), and Asada (cow). I have personally never tried the cabeza (cow head), mainly because the descriptions I've read online scare me. If you try it, let me know how it is! The fish and shrimp I've been told are good, but I suggest sticking to what I've mentioned. The same goes for the hamburgers. There are two locations in Tucson, which are surprisingly different! I'll spend a little time describing both locations, so you can decide which location you want to visit. The South location (this review) is the original, and is more of a stand. You order at a window and almost all seating is outside. This location offers "Mexican Coca-Cola" and serves other sodas in cans. At this location you can watch them cook your hot dogs, which is fun. I'm pretty sure this location doesn't serve alcohol. I recommend taking your out of town guests to this location, as it is more unique and authentic feeling. The North location is more of a restaurant. You are given a menu, get your drink in a glass, and have a server. I know this location serves alcohol. You also get a humorous combination of music. One minute you'll be listening to Brittney Spears, Lady Gaga, etc and then the next minute you'll hear Mexican music. If you look at the male waiting staff, you'll probably realize why you're listening to pop divas :)! Also, no outside seating. But don't worry, from my experience the food is just as delicious at both locations! This place blows El Guero Canelo away in my humble opinion. Go out there and experience this Tucson gem now if you haven't!

I love their fixings! You really can't go wrong with marinated chuck steak so the torts and the toppings play a major roll and they do nicely. Good stuff!

My Order: 2 pastor tacos 1 carne asada caramelo 1 carne asada burrito 2 sonoran hot dogs with the banana pepper 1 horchata Repeat. Sooooo amazing. I don't live in Tucson, but everytime I am there for work or play I make it a point to stop at BK's. Don't forget to hit up the salsa/condiments mecca.

BK never disappoints. Good carne, good service (thank you Olivia), good prices....... The carne asada tacos seem to be getting bigger. I ordered four and got enough meat for probably 6 at most places. Love the new style and decor of the place. I like the new menu with combos, definitely makes it easier for us gringos to order the tasty dishes. Only reason I lowered my rating by one star is because of my quest for the perfect Sonoran Hot Dog. While BK is good, they don't toast the bun like a few others......I love the original, but sometimes it takes a little it of change to make it even better.

Best Sonoran dogs, cabeza, and carne asada in town. Super clean. Excellent, quick service. Better than Guero Canelo every time. Done

I generally prefer taco trucks for this kind of fare (you know, for the ambience), but BK is a totally solid restaurant version. Their carne asada is really good, the caramelos are decadent, and the burros are great. Between BK and Guero Canelo, BK comes out the clear winner in my book.

My brother, being as big a food snob as I, took me here when I visited him and his lovely family in Tuscon. Hot dog was pretty good...HOWEVER, the salsa bar is awesome (literally something for everybody, including people that don't even like salsa), and the carne asada tacos...best I've ever had. EVER. And I've eaten a lot of them in my 32 years on this mortal coil. Don't let the run down appearance of the neighborhood frighten you...it's all good in the 'hood.

OK - I've been three times now. Awesome Sonoran style hot dogs, good Beef Torta and Beef Taco -- the last is mostly unfilled with any fill-ins because there's a condiment bar for stuff to add. Now, they use an incredible amount of what I would guess is MSG because my heart starts having palpations shortly after eating there -- soooo much sodium. I think their hot dogs are of a lesser quality than El Guero Canelo and that goes for the bacon too. The beef has no mystery bits and is not as greasy as El Guero Canelo, but it definitely hits the top-end of the sodium scale. I've changed my rating to 2 stars because of the sodium/MSG. I won't be going back -- I don't see a point when El Guero Canelo is around.

I love the Sonoran Hot Dogs and the Carne Asada Tacos on flour tortillas. Don't miss the fixins' bar where you can get a few different salsas, guacomole, cucumbers, etc... Why aren't there places like this throughout the country? This is the real place to "head for the border"!

BK used to be my favorite stop for hot dogs and tacos. I was a big fan, always went there after going out and I loved it. The other day I had a craving after work for some hot dogs and tacos, so I stopped there with a friend, and oh surprise...place has gone down hill. What we ordered, 2 carne asada tacos for my friend and a hot dog con todo and a taco de cabeza for me, the cashier was nice but talked to someone in the room with her as she cashed us out which was kind of confusing , but that didn't bother me, I figured she was just talking to one of the cooks First, the tacos came out pretty fast, we headed to the salsa bar, which was almost empty and dirty, and I don't just mean some messy customer came before us and spilled salsa around, there was different kinds of salsas caked all over the salsa bar counter, kinda of yucky. My friend and I started to eat our tacos when I noticed that my hot dog wasn't ready and there was no one by the cart, but I had my taco de cabeza so at that point it was ok, I bit into my taco de cabeza and it was disgusting, these are small tacos but I couldn't even eat half of it. Since the taco de cabeza was so gross, I waited anxiously for my hot dog, my friend was almost done with her 2 tacos and my soda was almost gone, I kept waiting for a cook to come out but no one was coming. By this point it had been at least 15 min since we had ordered.....so i walk up to the cashier window and asked her if she knew when I was going to get my hot dog, she turns to the guy she was previously talking to and smiles then she turns to me and says "ay va el muchacho" which translates into, the guy is coming or he's on his way or whatever you spanish speaking people want to translate it into. So "el muchacho" makes my hot dog and places it on the cart by the condiments, I figure since we are the only ones there that don't have any food it must be mine, and I had to figure because he didn't even bothet calling my number or telling me "thanks for interrupting my talk with the cashier, now eat you f'n hot dog" nope none of that, he just walked away from the cart and sat down in the sidewalk to talk on the phone. By that time my friend was done with her food, so I ate my hot dog, that could have been great but the bread tasted like it was about to go stale, so my food just plain sucked that day. I don't know if i'll go back anytime soon, it seems to me like they let down their guard, so I'll be sticking to the place across the street for a while and make my own tacos de cabeza at home.

Whenever I visit the city I grew up in, my trip to Southern Arizona isn't complete without a pitstop at a place in the heart of South Tucson that has the best Sonoran hot dog. This place is Mexico without the corrupt cops and suspect drinking water. In my younger days, I've stumbled onto this fine establishment after many, many beers. And the food, well, let's just say: save yourself a 50-mile trip from Tucson to the Mexican border because the comida rocks. The hot dogs: they are cooked to perfection, rolled in bacon and topped off with diced tomato, diced onion, mayo and a chile pepper as the garnishment. Think of the pepper as the icing on the cake! The tacos and caramellos also are delicious, made with perfectly seasoned carne asada and melted cheese, onions and cilantro built right in. If you don't speak English, you may need a translator to order your food, but that's what makes this dining experience special and unique. And if you want to buy a CD of the latest jams from Mexico, they're on sale next to the tip jar. Viva BK and the perro caliente!

You are My fave Bk's always have, always will!! If your having trouble deciding between Guero Canelo or Bks, I suggest Bk's..although I love Guero's too I prefer Bk's. Half my life I spent in Hermosillo Sonora & I grew up on real sonoran hot dogs..Bk's is the way to go!

Carne asado tacos were perfect. People in cities like Tucson may not realize how difficult it is to find good authentic tacos in states that don't border Mexico. Can't wait to try their famous hot dogs.

12th Ave Location What can I say that the other reviews have not ... wish I could give it six stars...went yesterday and got a bag full of Dogs and carne asada tacos...perfect...the dogs held up well on the trip back to my office as did the tacos...they do a great job of packaging them. Next time I plan on eating the tacos on the spot so as to take advantage of the salsas and other goodies...had the taco on the flour tortillas...will ask them for a few spares as the fill them very full with perfection...could make 4 with what they give you...problem is now I am getting hungry for BKs again so think I'll stop in on the the way to work...

Who will win in the battle of the dogs... BK or El Guero Canelo? BK is a strong contender. The dogs rank about the same. But I think BK has better tacos, caramelos, etc. They have more meat options, and I have found the chicken at El Guero Canelo to be quite suspect at times. All of the seating is outdoor at BK, so plan your visit accordingly. I appreciate the grilled pepper at BK, but then El Guero has the most awesome salad/accompaniments bar ever, so again I have come to an impasse. Can we just agree that both BK and El Guero are the crown jewels of Tucson?

Tucson is becoming well known for the Sonoran Hot Dog. While there are many options in town, the two main places are BK's and El Guero Canelo's. They are right down the street from each other in South Tucson. El Guero Canelo also has a second location on Oracle Road in North Tucson which by far has the nicest atmosphere (FYI - South Tucson is not the nicest neighborhood in town for you Tourists out there). If you want the better hot dog, though, go to BK's.

  • Jacky K C.

4 stars because the sonoran dogs are slightly better than el guero canelo, it's cheap 2.50 a dog and 1.5 a taco, and the salsa bar has more varieties than el guero. going to the south tucson location is ghetto (ie. guy asked me if i wanted my windshield cleaned for money) so i recommend going to the other location. the cabeza taco wasn't as tender as i had expected.

We drove to Tucson for the day, and stopped at BKs for lunch as it had been recommended to us by a friend. It was fairly easy to find by GPS, and when we arrived it wasn't too busy to find a spot to sit. They have indoor and outdoor sitting, and the outdoor tables have shade. I had the Sonoran Hot Dog and was pleasantly surprised with the taste. I am not a big mayo person, but this hot dog had mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish, grilled onions, and the hot dog was wrapped in bacon. I liked it! I ordered 1 when I should've ordered 2. My husband had 3 chicken tacos. The meat was so flavorful and moist. They have a salsa/condiment bar, so he added cabbage, pico de gallo, and salsa. They were awesome! They had Latin Music blaring from the speakers and the service was prompt and friendly. A great place for lunch!!

came here for lunch had the carne asada and spicy pork both where real good.. and i would totally eat here again..only 4 stars cause I feel like my fav in seattle is still a bit above this place and this place is in tucson which I feel should be the best of the best mex food.

I am a BIG fan this place is about the very best place for tacos in Tucson! They fill up the Carne Asado to the brim and then they have the best salsa bar in town and cold beers to boot with prices that can fit any budget I think. This place is it! Also good fish tacos!

Maybe it's the beer talkin'. ....then again, looking at all these reviews changes my mind. It really is that good. I stopped here to get a quick bite to eat after bein' out on the town... and was blown away by the awesomy goodness! It was like being across the line (Mexico) And having the best of the best of hot dogs....Sonoran style, baby! And those tacos....with the fixins..... the tortas...... AAAARRRGGHH!!! .....great....now I'm fiending.....

Their Sonoran Hot Dogs with everything (mayo, mustard, beans, green sauce(tomatillo?), onions, tomato and the roasted yellow pepper) are my favorite. Tried some others around town, they don't compare (even that super crowded place across the street...). The secret here is the Tacos de Cabeza, flavor & texture is amazing. No matter what else I order I always get a couple of these. Caramellos are good too, carne asada and melted cheese sandwiched between two tiny flour tortillas. Even though the menu is not huge, I always have a difficult time deciding what to order. To compliment the meal, there is an excellent salsa bar. Beware, if you can't handle the Scoville's, most salsas are medium to hot even the pico. It's so good I usually ignore it and pay later. There are at least 3 or 4 salsas, pico de gallo, a guacamole concoction (with what looks like cottage cheese in it), radish, pickled red onions, lime wedges, cukes. Dining area is small, stainless steel tables and benches. Never had a problem getting a seat. It's outside, expect the usual pests, the place is kept clean, but who or what can resist the aromas. There are heaters for the winter, misters? for summer, don't remember, usually only go there when it's nice outside. Parking lot is huge, watch out for the pot holes. They do have another location on 1st North of Grant which is indoors, have yet to make a visit. Hopefully the food is exactly the same, which would make it excellent to enjoy with A/C during those 100+ degree days.

Why the heck this restaurant is so hard to find on yelp I have no idea. Hot dogs are great, but the best kept secrets are the tacos. The carne asada (chopped steak for you folks from the Midwest) is grilled over Mesquite wood, which is very unusual for this type of place, and take them over the top. The pork tacos (el Pastor) are fantastic as well.

  • Christina D.

I know going here and not having a hot dog is like ordering chicken at a sushi restaurant, but I really wanted some tacos. The carne asada tacos weren't the best I've had but were really good and exactly what I wanted after getting off a plane from San Jose. The place was also really clean which was a plus. There's indoor and covered outdoor seating, we sat outside. Next time, I will definitely have to try a hot dog.

The hotdogs taste great. The tacos need help. I have had both the cabeza tacos and the carne asada tacos as well and they are both filled with unchewable pieces. If you do go, stay away from the salsa bar. It is usually pretty dirty and has kids sticking their fingers in the salsa. I have ended up getting sick the last 4 times I have eaten here. That comes from someone who never gets sick. If you want a good meal that you won't chance getting sick from whatever some little kid has on his fingers, go to one of the multitude of roach coaches in the area. I have had good luck with most of them in the area. If you want a good tasting Sonoran Dog and have a good immune system, go to BKs.

Took some family there recently as a first Sonoran hot dog trip. We figured out quickly that you get everything except hot dogs from one window and the hot dogs from the cart in the dining area. It was the best! Great food, fast service, clean tables, and clean bathrooms. I had the Jamaica just to see how they served it and it was wonderful. It was the first time that I'd had a Coke in a bottle since I was a kid. Don't miss this one. It's worth the drive.

i weep when i remember their salsa. i weep for the too-hot heaters in "winter" and the too-hot picnic tables in summer. i long for bean and cheese quesadillas and carne asada tacos. BK's has an uber-clean bathroom, by the way - and the cook dudes (not the hotdog guys but the ones in the box) will grill you cebollas if you flirt. PLUS they carry soda from Mexico - so overly sweet you'll attract pollinators - but you must have the apple variety. All told? You'll spend probably less than ten bucks for some comida especial.

My life will never be the same without Bk's. Two sonoran dogs with the bacon, sour cream, beans, tomatoes and green chiles would cure any malcontent in your life. And I don't even like hot dogs.

This is the best Tacqeria (Taco Stand) on this side of the border! Their Horchata is the very best. Not grainy, just perfect! I recommend: Tacos de Cabeza, Tacos de Carne Asada and the Caramellos! You can eat them on Corn or Flour tortillas and both are excellent. There are a wide variety of toppings to choose from: salsa, limes, cabbage, guacamole, pico de gallo, tomatoes, red cabbage...etc... They also have an excellent Sonoran Hot dog which is a hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with pinto beans, onions and tomatoes. One of the best hot dogs you will ever eat! The atmosphere is always festive however there is no indoor seating and that can be bad in the summer months when the heat soars to 110. They do attempt to keep you cool with fans in the summer and outdoor heaters in the winter.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
